Monday Night Raw

Posted in:
Greetings from under the black, 200X Resistol hat from Oklahoma where Monday night RAW emanates from on Monday September 25 from the Ford Center. Random thoughts....... I thought this week’s RAW was a better show than some of the “critics”, but what do I know? I TiVo RAW and watch it when I get home on Tuesdays and sometimes I leave the arena thinking we had a better broadcast than we did once I see the show in the comfort of my living room. However, this week’s RAW’s goal was to create some awareness for Unforgiven and I thought that was accomplished. As a matter of fact, the Unforgiven event had me concerned until I heard of the matches planned for it. Now, with a loud and enthusiastic Toronto sold out live audience ready to rock, the atmosphere at the event should be awesome. The crowd can really make a difference in how a show is perceived by the viewers at home and how it motivates the performers. I know it sure does work for me and I have been to a few goat ropings in my time. If the WWE discovered that large crowds did not motivate its wrestlers, then I would suggest those individuals be allowed to immediately seek employment elsewhere and become someone else’s dead weight. Hopefully, Nature Boy Ric Flair will be back on RAW this Monday after licking his wounds resulting from the I Quit match at Summerslam versus Mick Foley and then the following night on RAW against Randy Orton. Flair STILL adds so much to our broadcasts with his natural energy and a legacy that may never be duplicated. It is amazing to me that Flair, at his age, still has more enthusiasm in the ring than many younger wrestlers I see. That’s a damn shame for some in the younger generation. I would bet good money that Arn Anderson could come “off the bench” today and still cut a better in ring promo than most guys earning good money to be able to do the same. Maybe I am too old school but that is my story and I am sticking to it. It looks as if the ECW TV Show that airs LIVE every Tuesday night on Sci Fi will be aiming its promotional barrels at hyping Unforgiven with the massive ECW Champion Big Show rooted in one of the main events at the upcoming PPV on September 17. I think that is smart marketing. I was really shocked when I heard the news that Kurt Angle was released from the WWE last week. Kurt came to work for the company on my watch and like former Oklahoma head football coach Barry Switzer has told me many times, “you recruit your players for life”. I still have great respect and admiration for Kurt Angle and hope he can take down his personal issues with the focus and passion that he took down wrestlers for the better part of his life. Kurt has been in pain more often than not since winning the Gold Medal in 1996 at the Atlanta Olympic Games and that matter has taken its toll on the Pittsburgh native. Kurt has many years of productivity left in him no matter what he decides to do with his professional life. The main issue now is for Kurt to get healthy, physically and mentally, not sorry about wrestling anyone or anywhere, and to focus on being the best full time Dad he can while his schedule permits such. There is no doubt that the UFC-like entities will dream of Kurt Angle (some, no doubt, against Brock Lesnar) competing in an octagon or similar battle ground but my advice to Kurt would be to stay away from such activities and focus solely on getting healthy. Kurt Angle will always be special to me and he knows without a shadow of a doubt that if I can ever be of any assistance to him that I will be there 24/7. Monday Night RAW was the # 1 prime time program on TV for the 18th consecutive week in males 12-17. That’s one hell of an accomplishment. This past Monday even airing out of our normal time slot and network Monday Night RAW was the # 3 rated TV program in males 18-34 years of age. That is impressive any way you slice it. It’s hard to believe that Monday night in Atlantic City that we produced our 692nd episode of Monday Night RAW. With the exceptions of a few “sabbaticals”, yours truly has proudly been a part of most of them. However, as my friend and mentor the late, great Gorilla Monsoon would say, the chances of me doing 692 MORE weeks of RAW are “highly unlikely” as that would equate to over another decade and I don’t think anyone, including myself, wants to see me on TV when I am north of 64. For the record some one on the ‘net referred to me saying “ring card” as the Highlanders were being ejected from ringside. I don’t have a clue as to what in the hell a “ring card” is but if it matters I said, “Green Card” as in the Highlanders were foreigners who had a right to be in the USA. Perhaps a lame attempt at humor but at least if I fail at it I want to be damned correctly. I was also criticized this week for mentioned Hurricane Katrina. For the record no on told me to say anything about Hurricane Katrina as it came from my own somewhat fried brain. I feel for New Orleans deeply. My early career was centered on Mid South Wrestling events in New Orleans so the Crescent City is a special place to me. I also said that one of our referee’s were as slow as government aide to New Orleans. If I offended anyone’s sensitivities any Katrina remark I apologize as that was not my intent. ECW is re-built from the inside out and I, for one, like the new approach. I know those that love to chant “E-C-Dub” incessantly and say rude remarks in front of youngsters may not love the new approach but I can assure you the talent will last longer and stay healthier. That’s pretty damn important as most wrestlers I know want to be able to bend over and tie their shoes or play catch with their kids when they turn 40. I regularly watch ECW on Sci Fi and enjoy the fast paced hour and the usual strong build to the show closing, main event. Joey Styles and Tazz both sound more comfortable doing ECW TV than their previous gigs. Styles and Tazz are at their best, in my humble opinion, when they disagree but I do enjoy their work. I am becoming a big C.M. Punk fan and would love to see him on RAW but I know that’s just wishful thinking. Punk has “it” and if he can stay away from injuries Punk may be the lead mule on the ECW wagon train. (Those are all old, TV western metaphors by the way.) This I can personally relate to. Paul Heyman made a wise choice of “combat attire” Tuesday night on ECW TV. Much like yours truly, Heyman was not blessed with the body one wants to see in wrestling tights. Another young talent I like to watch in the ring is Smackdown’s Kennedy. For some odd reason, Kennedy reminds me at times of “Stunning” Steve Austin. There is just something about Kennedy’s body English and how he carries himself at times that harkens up memories of the blonde haired version of Austin. IF, and it is a huge IF, Kennedy can apply himself as much as Stone Cold did and think about how to get better and to be the best performer in the business 24/7, then Kennedy will become a HUGE asset for the WWE and a very rich man. I would love to see him accomplish all these things. How Michael Cole deals with the loud, Texan JBL every Friday night on Smackdown is beyond me. Cole must drink decaf. JBL has an opinion on EVERYTHING. These two are combustible elements and that helps make for an interesting broadcast in my view. JBL has so many diverse interests outside the sports entertainment genre one has to wonder how long he will continue to stir the stew on Smackdown. I actually get along well with JBL off camera except for the second Saturday in October when Oklahoma plays Texas in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. This year that is October 7, not that I am keeping track. JBL may hang his clothes in New York City but he is and always will be a Texan. There may not be a more fundamentally sound wrestler in the WWE than Finley. The veteran Irishman was taught well and has perfected his craft. If I were a young athlete and was looking for someone today to emulate Finley would be on my short list. I’m not kissing Finley’s Irish ass, even though I have kissed an Irishman’s ass before, but Finley has little wasted motion in the ring making everything he does mean something and truly enjoys making the fans hate him which is becoming a lost art. I am attempting to watch the Brian Pillman DVD but have discovered I could only handle a little of it at a time. The DVD is quite awesome but it personally hits too close to home. Brian will always be one of my all time favorite people. I am proud that I was in a position to help facilitate his short albeit memorable run in the WWE but I am deeply saddened when I think back about his much too soon death. I assure you that rarely a day goes by that I don’t think of the raspy voiced, spirited athlete who over achieved his entire life and was as much a student of the game of wrestling as any one I ever worked with. Thanks for checking out our site. I hope you will come back soon. I will be updating my blogs as regularly as possible. In the meantime, try some of our sauce or Slobber-Knocker merchandise. I hope you will tune in to Monday Night RAW this week back on the USA network. Be well and please tell your friends about our new site.

Tell creative to start calling Booker-T fans - Bookmarks. Get it? You'd sell alot of shirts!!
Harry... If you try to please all you will please none......
Hey JR This is thomas from South Africa think you are the best commentator ever in wrestling history just wondering if you think The Rock will ever make his return to the WWE and do you think Shelton Benjamin will evah be a main eventer as I think he is the most athletic wrestler I have seen since an early Shawn Michaels and my last question is which upcoming wrestler do you think deserves to break Undertakers Wrestlemania record
wwe wrestler... Interesting post. I came across this blog by accident, but it was a good accident. I have now bookmarked your blog for future use. Best wishes. WWE Divas Website Team....
so much for a kurt angle return at wrestlemania
MR.Ross you are the best in the buisiness at what you do.Thank you so much for puting up with as much as you have.Without your slobberknockers and HE's been broken in half's the matches would not be the same. You have elevated so many stars with just an expression of emotion, and have made mediocre matches watchable.Without you the WWE would not be what it is today, and I would love to hear you Okie drawl on monday nights for two more decades. Thank you again a hge JR mark.
JR! I am a big WWE fan. I know that sometimes the storylines are not the best but it's still worth watching. However, on SmackDown, I really hate that they're making money off of Eddie Guerrero's good name. You have the whole Rey Mysterio/Chavo Guerrero feud going on and Eddie's widow, Vicky, is involved in this. I believe the Boston crowd from Summerslam hated that they used Eddie's name too. You were probably a good friend to Eddie. He was perhaps the greatest Latino wrestler from this generation. I just find it disgusting how SmackDown is using Eddie's name. I wish they would just let him rest in peace.
Jr!! It was so hard to watch Raw without your intelligent commentary. How you observe, distinct, and analyze everything is a true gift. Them comments about Katrina came off the head. Doing a live show, and being all excited like that. I couldn't imagine what I would say. Keep up the good work. And ten more years isn't that much of a stretch ;]
where is the boggie man ? is he going to return?
JR...if you read this ....i have been following wrestling since bruno....now its something i share with my 21 year old son....don't change, you add so much to the show, and you are as old as you feel, so as long as you enjoy doing it , keep on keeping on. and as far as comments like " as slow as government aide to N.O.,...it was so on the target.as far as the wrestlers, the ones who give the whole nine yards all the time are obvious....they are the ones who make it happen and you can see they enjoy what they do...feeding off the fans...and as far as flair goes, if the other wrestlers can't get inspired by him, they need to wake up or do something else.hope you don't mind but now i found your "front door" i will be dropping by now and then.
[...] Today, Jim Ross has essentially brought up a new version of The Ross Report online. Here’s today’s column. One item that I immediately noticed was his paragraph about Kurt Angle. For those who are ardent readers of Fight Opinion, you know my feelings about where Kurt Angle’s career direction is heading (and all roads point to Japan). As I wrote last week, I fully expected K-1 to make Angle an offer to face Brock Lesnar (perhaps on New Year’s Eve). [...]
I don't believe JR is directly replying to posts here, for those asking direct questions. But who knows. Maybe he will decide to post a follow-up to his blog posts, in the future. It kinda defeats the purpose of a blog with comments, if not. Either way, looking forward to his BBQ-Sauce, to spice up the backyard cookouts. PS: Someone tell DX that the ECW ratings for Tuesday night don't reflect their high opinion of themselves. Lower than average show, depsite the King of Kings honoring the bingo hall with his esteemed presence. Bring back REAL ECW wrestlers. Stop making ECW out to be "Raw, Part II". Tell Kane to go back to the mask/mute gimmick, now that Umaga has crushed his windpipe.
As a victim of Hurricane Katrina, I can assure you JR that your comments did not offend me. What does offend me, however, is how you, and the rest of the media, automatically apologize to New Orleans. New Orleans was not the only area affected by Katrina. The entire Mississippi Gulf Coast was completely demolished, from Bay St. Louis to Pascagoula and everywhere in between, including my home of Biloxi. Katrina itself did not even hit New Orleans -- the surgewaters from Katrina caused the levies to fail, flooding the city. It didn't just affect that single city, either. Slidell was virtually wiped clean. St. Bernard Parish, a place where I have many relatives, was completely washed away... An entire PARISH. I feel for all of the New Orleans residents, and I love the city of New Orleans, but I wish the media of this country would stop convincing themselves that Katrina was all about New Orleans. Just because we don't whine about it as much as Ray Nagin doesn't mean that thousands of people from Mississippi and other parts of Louisana weren't just as screwed up as New Orleans.
[...] We start with a correction from last week’s report, thanks to Jim Ross (http://jrsbarbq.com/blog/2006/08/30/12/#more-12). When the Highlanders were escorted from ringside, he joked that they had green cards, not “ring cards.” Frankly, I didn’t know what ring cards were either, but just thought it sounded really funny, like the old manager’s license. It was hardly meant as a damnation of some sort. My apologies. With that, we move on to the show. [...]
JR, reading your blog about old school reminded me of the days when the likes of a young Ricky Steamboat or Flair would wrestle, the Jay Youngbloods, Greg Valentine, Jimmy Valiant. Now the old school wrestlers could do a good promo but kick ass better in any ring. One person that had his career cut short would be Terry Allen(magnum ta) Now that is old school. Glad to see you brought back the Ross Report. Looking forward to seeing it more..
Your comments on Finley are so spot on. Bobby Lashley is the luckiest young star in the business. Week after week he is working with Finley and Regal and in my opinion is getting the best education in hard ring work and psychology. I wonder how Brock Lesnar's career would be doing today if had had been given this type of opportunity instead of being pushed to the top before he was mentally prepared for it.
JR; I like so many others missed the Ross Report. I remember & Miss watching the Mid South Wrestling Promotion. I feel that Mr. Paul Bousch was one of the best promoters. The antics of The Alamo Busters (Hector and Chavo Guerrero) along with the Tuxedo Matches of Jim Duggan and Ted Dibiase were awesome on a Saturday Night. Ted and Dr Death were and are the best tag team in my minds eye. Good luck to Your Sooners. I shall be watching for #8 Jonathan Crompton who is a QB for The Tennessee Volunteers. I hope he does them justice like he did for my high school team. I am going to miss Trish Stratus when she retires from WWE. She is one of the best Womens Wrestlers. I just hope that WWE can better use them for true wrestling and not just as pointless eye candy! Boomer Sooner!
Hi Mr. Ross!!! I live in Oklahoma City, (Boomer,Sooner!) and I can not wait for Raw to come to the Ford Center. I already have my tickets I'm so exited! I am also looking forward to meeting you, King, and John Cena at the State Fair grounds.I can't wait!!! Great entry I really enjoyed it! I myself was also shocked with Kurt's departure, he is one of the best in the bussines. Well got to go, Raw its about to start. Post again soon! Thanks
Good 'ol JR, Glad to see you have this blog up, I (like many others on this board) use to enjoy reading the Ross Report and enjoyed (and continue to enjoy) your perspective of things. Couldn't agree with you more about Double A Arn Anderson. No one in the business could possibly deliver as good a promo as Arn; not too mention his classic spine buster cannot be duplicated (analogous to the Jake Roberts DDT.) Regardless, I hope in the future he'll be used on camera whether it be for a manager role or perhaps (dare I say it) a 4 Horsemen revival? Love the site and am looking forward to the sauce! Cheers, Craig
Great to see you back online Mr. Ross. I've been enjoying your commentary ever since I first saw UWF. I think CM Punk is the hilight of ECW each week he's on. As for Mr. Kennedy, pause, Kennedy he's brilliant and I think fans aree dying to cheer him so I hope a face turn is in store for him soon. You gotta love his ****y brash arrogant attitude. In closing I feel you are the second greatest commentator ever right behind Mr Gordon Solie. Thank you sir for the blog.
Well it's always great to get Good ol' JR's take on the world of wrestling. Just a few questions: What are the chances we'll see either Mr Fuji and/or Randy Savage inducted into the Hall of Fame in Detroit. It's long overdue for both. Also how long until the WWE comes out with the definitive Andre the Giant DVD?
Nice to see a blog from you JR. I always enjoyed the old Ross Reports and feel that while I may not always agree with you I respect the fact that you always voice your opinion. You start off by blasting critics of RAW, which I am sure is a blast on the Internet. Just because someone disagrees with the McMahons about the way wrestling should be does not mean they are wrong. You talk about how Arn Anderson could get over and cut promos. How can some of the younger wrestlers on RAW do that when it seems as if the majority of the time is being taken up by the McMahons? The McMahons were a formula that worked during the Austin days, but as for now they are burden on the program. People don;t have to enjoy that type of programming. In fact they do not as your PPV dollars are going to the UFC. I know that you have an obligation to stick up for your employer, but the program has gone down the crapper in recent years because the "office" view is not what the fans want to see. The fans give matches like Angle/HBK, the late Eddie Guerrero/Edge, and so forth standing ovations. It is like pulling teeth to get a strong reaction to DX doing fart jokes. I know some of the problem lies with the talent on the program, which has severely declined since you left the talent acquistion role. I end by saying, stick up for your program if you truly enjoy it but do not blast others for having their own opinion. I frankly think that you would like to see a more serious based wrestling product instead of the BS we have to see today. Thank you very much JR for all your years behind the microphone and behind the scenes.
Greetings from London Ontario Canada, JR! I have to say, I'm glad to see you have your own blog! Do you see Mick Foley ever coming back, especially after the cruel betrayal by his "so-called" friend Melina. I never trusted her. Let's just say her Mick bashing PC on last week's Raw hit home because Melina's cruel contempt for Mick reminded me of all the girls that have said the exact things to me when I was growing up...you know the "I could never like/love anyone as ugly as you!" Mick, I want to see you come back in the worst way! Even if it's just to come out of the crowd and cost that miserable excuse of a pretty boy Johnny Nitro his IC belt. Another question for you JR: Do you ever see the day when someone takes charge of Raw and is not an ass-kisser to the McMahons? I'm sort of mixed on that because Vince can do whatever he wants on Raw (& Smackdown) and there is NO ONE higher up to stop him. I wouldn't trust Linda or Stephanie as they are just as evil as the male McMahons. Question The 3rd: Have you kept in touch with Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock? Will we EVER see them again in the ring not as wrestlers obviously but just to have a special appearance? I'd love for Austin to come back and once again stun the entire McMahon family and lead the charge against their cruelty and shinanigans. What do you think? Keep up your excellent blog! Thanks again!
Greetings, J.R. There's one question that has been bugging me, but I've never been able to figure out an answer for. Ever since the brand extension, there has been a near-perfect card that has been possible, but has never come up. Picture this as a Wrestlemania: World Champion vs. WWE Champion U.S. Champ vs. Intercontinental Champ World Tag Champs vs. WWE Tag Champs Women's Champ vs. t.b.d. Smackdown Diva Cruiserweight Champ vs. t.b.d. RAW Cruiserweight and, to top things off, a Royal Rumble of the top 10 contenders from each show with the winner getting a title match of their choosing at their show's next PPV. The titles may or may not be up for grabs, although, if one changed hands, the winner could choose to which brand he wished to belong. Then, the other brand could have a post-Wrestlemania title tournament to crown a new champion. I have always thought that, as the biggest WWE show of the year, Wrestlemania seems to be the only PPV event where this sort of card could be held. Indeed, as the climax of the WWE "season", any post-PPV tourney would indeed set things up so that everyone is getting a "fresh start". If there is any real reason why such a supercard could not happen, I'd love to hear it.
Love the site, it sucks that Angle is gone, but he needs to be healthy and that's more important than anything else. Couple of things: I really want to enjoy WWE programming but it seems most of the time there is less wrestling and more promos on both shows. I like to be able to see a long match once in a while. 2 guys who can get in there and give it their all. I am also a die-hard ECW fan. I know that the old ECW is dead and gone, but what ever happened to introducing new talent, again more wrestling please.
Hey JR, really enjoyed this entry, lot of your points make a lot of sense. I truly believe that you are the best announcer in the game, and I for one truly hope that you DO announe another 692 shows. Looking forward to RAW this week, and Unforgiven on the 17th. Will be checking this often, love the site Thanks Paul Philbin Scotland p.s Do you ever check out the wrestling forums? Check out WEForums.com as it truly is the best, good comments and sensible posters Thanks again
Great site JR, I believe all of us was shocked with the departure of Kurt Angle. In my opinion he is the best in ring performer ever. I'm talking better than the Briscoes,Funks,or Flair. Hopefully WWE will offer him a contract with less dates in the future. It would be great to see him come back to the WWE and help recruit and train some other gold medal winners like Karam Gaber and Cael Sanderson. Wouldn't that make a awesome team Angle. Make for some great positive press as well. Thanks
Heh JR. Great to see your new website. Used to read the ross report every week. I have a question for you. With DX back together, and this storyline with the boss and satan junior going on and on, i find it hard to see how they will end it, and what would dx do after this storyline.
STONE COLD! STONE COLD! STONE COLD!!!!!!!!!!! HOW DO YOU SIT THERE EACH WEEK AND WATCHING DX? I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU HAVING TO WATCH THAT CRAP.
Hey JR. Agreed with everything you said. CM Punk and Kennedy are really talented. I hope they do get their chance in the WWE. Someone that didnt get his chance in the WWE was Christian Cage, he could have been a huge star and quite possibly main eventing against Edge right now. I would love to see Christian come back and main event Wrestlemania against Edge for the WWE Championship in a TLC match. Two questions, you said in the JR report last year that you reckon Chris Jericho will come back to the WWE in 2006, do you still feel that way? I feel that Chris Jericho is needed!!! Since Kurt Angle's departure the ECW brand has fallen short on potential Main Event wrestlers. The WWE need to bring back one huge star to fill that empty space in ECW and who better to fill in that spot than the King Of The World??? Second questions, If Chris Jericho was brought back at the end of this year do you think a "King Of Kings" match could possible take place? I feel that it would be a fantastic idea to have ECW wrestler Chris Jericho against Raw wrestler Triple H against Smackdown wrestler King Booker in a triple threat interpromotional match at Wrestlemania. Since all three wrestlers call themselves king in one way or another it would be an interesting match to have and it would create a lot of buzz. Thanks again JR!
Once again Mr. Ross and BRILLIANT Read, just like your old posts on WWE.com entitled the 'Ross Report'
Hey JR, you were always a great announcer and I can say I deeply enjoyed your work back on the WCW and on the WWF/E. I just have three short questions (I denoted that someone mentioned that you do answer question in your Q & A): 1) One thing that I remember back in the day was that you were really pumped up every time you were commentating Sting's matches back on the WCW. a) What are your thoughts about Sting (personal and professional wise)? * If you can add anything about what do you think of him being on TNA I wouldn't mind but if you can't I will understand. b) Why did you stop calling the "Stinger Splash" move by its name every time Shelton Benjamin lands that move? I remember you going crazy every time that move was landed. 2) If you could choose, you would continue being a wrestling commentator or would you choose to be a football commentator (for your Oklahoma Sooners)?
JR's back! JR's back! I've been in major withdrawl since the Ross Report went "off the air" - so I'm so glad you've moved to blogging. I'll be a returning visitor here, Jim - you can count on it. Best wishes from Denmark
Hey JR, Loved the blog. Brings back memories of the "Ross Report" from years gone by. I wouldnt mind hearing your thoughts on some of the younger talent on the roster just now (Paul London and Brian Kendrick come to mind) Love the site/blog and I'll be ordering some BBQ as soon as I can! Martin Duggan, Scotland, UK
hey J.R. Great job on this wesite. Speaking of RAW, in my opinoin, i think that you and the King make and made RAW what it has become to today. Great Job and i no you said that you probablly wont be doing this for another 692 episodes, but I, and many other WWE fans, hope that maybe you will change your mind on that one because like i said, you made RAW what it is today! BOOMER SOONER!!
Hi .JR.. Love the web site . I have been a fan of wrestling for over 20 years, been a fan of Good ol JR since your WCW days, and I say that you and Jerry The King are the Greatest Announcers ever . If the king ever gets bored with wrestling I,m sure he'll have and great career in comedy. Anyway i hope eventually the WWE will induct Wendy Richter in to the Hall Of Fame she deserves it . i know she's no Trish Stratus ... but she Deserves it. and so Does Mr Bob Backlund. and so does MR T after all he did wrestle in the first 2 Wrestlemainas. hopefully you can spread the word and make it happen.. and good luck with your BBQ sauces and stuff I'm sure your momma would be proud.
JR, I love your site. I've really missed the Ross Report. I never missed reading one of your Ross Reports since day 1. WWE Stone Cold and JR fan of almost 10 years.
Mr. Ross I have watched wrestling since I was a kid. I am like you, I love John Wayne. I am told I am strange in the way I like him more than anyone else. I am so glad you have a website. I just bought your cookbook. I did not know you had your own sauce, but I can't wait to try it. I'll be checking back every week just to see how things are going. GOOD LUCK!
Hey Patrick, J.R.'s blog can never be long enough for me! I want to know what the man thinks about the WWE product. I like Kennedy but so far CM Punk hasn't impressed me. One Question? How long before Good Ol' J.R. takes over for Johnny Ace?
Hello Good Ol' J.R. I have been watching wrestling for a LONG time now. I am 31 years old, been watching since I would assume about 1981 or so. You are my favorite announcer and hope you never decide to hang up the announcer duties for wrestling. Whether it be Raw or any other event cause I love the way you call matches. I live in Louisville Kentucky and used to watch King Lawler, Brian Christopher, Jeff Jarrett, Dutch Mantell, Austin Idol, Tommy Rich, Doug Gilbert, Moondogs, etc. growing up every Tuesday night at the louisville gardens and to this day wrestling is my first love. One thing I TOTALLY disagree with in todays wrestling is the exploitation of the female diva's. I am getting tired of it, and I am sure I am not the only one that would like it to get back to hardcore storyline/drama driven matches and fights between men. Having women beat up each other who look like models isn't convincing to me. Anyway, I am SO happy you have your blog up and you are AWESOME J.R. KEEP ROCKING. SAY HI TO THE KING!!!!! Walter Cotton
JR you are the best play by play guy in the history of pro wrestling in my mind. Everyone in the internet world of pro wrestling keeps saying the WWE doesn't have any big stars anymore like Austin or The Rock. Do you think the fans will adept to John Cena's style or will he continued to get a very mixed reaction in most towns?
Im glad to have you back JR. Raw just wasnt the same while you were gone at all. I really enjoyed reading the blog, it holds no bars and is true to heart. I look forward to reading them in the future. Btw, I know you may not be a Randy Orton fan on Raw, but i think he is a young talent that can become a huge name for the WWE if he gets the right angle going. Im hoping this feud between him and Carlito can help both of their careers. Keep up the work JR and hope things go well. -Kevin
Great to see your reports back on the internet. New place, same comforting reports. I read every word and it makes my wrestling side happy. I am extremely interested in trying your sauces. I live just outside Kansas City, Missouri, which as you probably know is well known for having great BBQ any time of the week. I have my own favorite sauces, and I hope to add yours to my list, which is VERY short. I would also like to inquire about the Brian Pillman DVD you mentioned in your entry. I have not seen it anywhere (mainly because I don't visit too many outside wrestling sites), and would like to at least view it, as I feel it is very important to watch wrestling's past as well as the present. If you (or someone you know) could point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful. Thank you very much, Russell Gillett PS - Although I live in Jayhawk and Tiger terriroty, I will always have a spot for OU, having living in Oklahoma for a few years. Boomer Sooner!
I know that Jerry "The King" Lawler has remained one of your best friends for a long time, but I was wondering if you still enjoy working with him? He's not the same great colorman he was when he first started with the WWF in late 1992 I do believe. I notice that he's been using PBP as a scapegoat during broadcasts when he really doesn't have anything interesting to say. Is there still that chemistry that was there when you two first worked together in 97 after the Montreal incident?
JR I THINK YOUR THE NUMBER ONE ANNOUNCER IN THE WWE PERIOD THERES NO ONE THAT CAN BEAT YOU
JR, Glad to see you back in the internet blog game. Your column on WWE.com was one of my favorite features of that site. I couldn't agree with you more regarding CM Punk and the new ECW. What started out in the first couple of weeks as a big mess, has become one of the best wrestling programs I've seen on TV in a long time. I would add that both Mike Knox and Kevin Thorne appear to have a bright future ahead of them in the business as well. I'm looking forward to finally firing up my grill with some JR's BBQ Sauce. I consider myself to be a BBQ Sauce expert and anxiously await the chance to write you a review. Peace from the Green Mountain State of Vermont.
