Back From The Big Apple

Greetings from under the black, 200X, Resistol hat from your OU Football loving, BBQ fanatic who is looking forward to traveling to Canada this week for what is sure to be an emotionally charged WWE pay per view, Unforgiven in Toronto. It is always an adventure and a thrill to travel from our home in Norman, Oklahoma to New York City but being in the Big Apple on the 5th Anniversary of 911 this past Monday was really special. The resilient folks of NYC are amazing individuals and the city, for the most part, has seemingly recovered as much as humanly possibly since the cowardly attacks of September 11, 2001. More...The fans that attended the live Monday Night RAW event and the ECW taping Monday night at Madison Square Garden certainly were not “laid back” and their positive energy should have motivated everyone involved in the process Monday night. If not, as the late Gorilla Monsoon used to say, “Get Out!” There were several talents who had never performed at MSG in their careers and I spoke with many of them. Some were trying to act “cool” as if The Garden was just another arena but any observant person could tell that they were as nervous as a lady of the night in church. I have broadcast many events in Madison Square Garden and I STILL get nervous as hell when I work there. Just knowing all the great stars from so many forms of entertainment and sports that have roamed the halls of the backstage area and used the same dressing rooms we use is surreal in itself. We all prepare for a major broadcast such as RAW in NYC differently. While I poured over my notes, The King toured DC Comics & Victoria’s Secret. Hey, to each his own. The pageantry of the opening moments of Monday night’s show was remarkable live in the arena. My black hat is off to Lilian Garcia, yes, she’s single gentlemen, for her stirring rendition of America the Beautiful. It was very Aretha Franklin-like from Wrestlemania 3. Lilian is a former Game**** by the way. Many of the NYPD and the NYFD were in attendance and I always love visiting with those guys. Those are men’s men and were the true heroes of the evening.I thought the jacked up crowd and the sense of urgency regarding Unforgiven amped the wrestlers up nicely Monday night. I know that future Hall of Famer Ric Flair was pumped and “Naitch” has seen and done it all (literally). When a veteran like Flair gets goose pimples you know the show is going to be a good one. It was nice to see Mike Rotundo at the Garden on Monday. Mike may become a producer for the WWE. Not only was the former “IRS” an outstanding in ring talent in his day but Mike was a two sport star at Syracuse in football and wrestling. Mike is a classy guy. Not sure how to predict the Kane-Umaga match this Sunday other than it may resemble a Monster Truck Show as much as a wrestling match. Don’t expect a Brisco-Funk re-make. With the baseball pennant races heating up, let’s just say this match will be more about the long ball than base hits. It was great to see WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper at MSG Monday night. If some of the younger talents who aspire to be wrestling antagonists would spend more time watching vintage tapes of bad guys like Piper rather than playing video games or seeking out the wrestling gossip then their careers would be better served. Roddy, like yours truly, is now a grandfather, and that changes a man’s perspective on many things and motivates one to re-prioritize one’s life even if, as in my case, it comes later in life than it should. Even with Piper’s motivation, I will be surprised if the Highlanders can overcome the 5 on 2 advantage the Spirit Squad will have Sunday on PPV.Speaking of the Spirit Squad, I like the upside of these 5 talents. However, I do think the 5 man unit, for my money, is close to running its course. Speaking of tag teams, the tag team competition on RAW still needs that shot in the arm. Perhaps Sunday will help kick that matter off and certainly Cade and Murdoch elevated their game by being willing accomplices to the assault of DX on Monday night. Edge is “red hot” and headed “home” to defend the WWE Title in a match Edge has never lost. It sounds like the challenger (Cena) is in a fair amount of jeopardy doesn’t it? John Cena will be booed out of the arena in Toronto which is Edge’s long time home base. Cena must win Sunday or Cena’s goal to become WWE Champion takes at least a 3 year hiatus as Cena has already inked a 3 year Smackdown contract that goes into effect IF Cena loses Sunday. These TLC matches are overtly dangerous. The likelihood of someone getting hurt in this match is obvious. Johnny “Don’t Call Me Monday” Nitro, although blinded by the “love” of an evil woman with multiple agendas, in my opinion, has really impressed me as of late with his in ring abilities. Nitro’s match with Jeff Hardy should be an aerial attraction but sometimes the crash and burn element becomes an issue in these types of matches. This match may resemble some of the ECW Hardcore Rules contests, at times, inasmuch as swinging for the fences and fouling one off occasionally but I am looking forward to it nonetheless. Carlito and Randy Orton have the opportunity to steal the show with a pure wrestling match come Unforgiven. Now, will they do it? That’s entirely up to the two men in the ring. They each have the ability to be off the charts. Physically, neither lacks a thing, so it comes down to mental preparation and the “will” to be better than any one else on the show. These two men could be two of the future building blocks for RAW for years to come and this Sunday will go along way in determining just how far along these two are in that journey. What’s next for Chris Masters? Hopefully, for his sake, no more matches on worldwide TV with Super Crazy. The leaner, should be quicker, Masters is 0-2 against the former ECW and Smackdown grappler. Speaking of Smackdown, how many “kings” are there now days in the WWE? There’s the original King, Jerry Lawler, Smackdown’s Champ, King Booker, the King of Kings, HHH, and let’s not forget the King of the Ring. Notwithstanding the King of B.S., ECW’s Paul Heyman and one of our best sponsors, Burger King! Will Trish end her storybook career with a 7th Championship victory this Sunday in her final match that also happens to be in her home town? I don’t have, here comes an Eagles reference, a “Peaceful, Easy Feeling” about this matter. Bad things happen to WWE stars/personnel when they appear in their hometowns. King loses in his home town of Memphis in a 2-3 minute match while I’ve spend more time on the canvas than Rembrandt in OKC (Oh Hell, we’re back at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City on Monday night September 25!). I sincerely hope Trish wins but quite honestly I would not bet a bottle of BBQ Sauce on it. I hope I am wrong. At 7 feet tall and a dozen biscuits or so over 500 pounds, The Big Show is simply a “freak of nature”. I sometimes wonder if he actually realizes how dominate he could be. I can remember back in the day when my wife cooked dinner for Show and he put a huge strain on the dining room furniture and the flooring. Plus, he ate all my damn apple butter! In all seriousness, the Big Show has the physical attributes to be THE biggest attraction in this business. Period. End of Story. Case closed. The McMahons have the right man on their side come Hell in a Cell this Sunday. The advantage for DX is that HHH and HBK know exactly what the Cell holds in store for them while this will be the first visit by the McMahon men folk and their giant sized asset inside Satan’s playground. I expect a total blood bath come Sunday on pay per view at Unforgiven. Hey for 61 years of age, or any age, for that matter, Mr. McMahon’s physique was awesome Monday night. I know for a fact that all the Chairman does when he is not with family is work and workout. There is no golf, no boating, no polo, no Texas Hold ‘Em, no football, nothing that interests the Boss as much as the business and working out. I probably will never be on the Chairman’s Christmas card list again especially after Mr. McMahon has replaced yours truly on RAW on numerous occasions. I could bitch, moan, and woe is me it but what good does that do anyone? The bottom line is, Mr. McMahon is richer than eight feet up a bull’s ass and he doesn’t need to step into the ring but McMahon does it because he wants to do it. perhaps even NEEDS to do it. Mr. McMahon indeed does have a HUGE ego but I have never met anyone in his position who didn’t. I applaud the Boss’ passion and his work ethic in, and out, of the gym which no one, not even his biggest detractor’s, can deny. I also realize that any given Monday could be my last broadcast because of the volatile nature of Mr. McMahon but that just goes with the territory, for better or for worse. However, I do know that the paychecks always cash and are always on time. After watching ECW Tuesday night on Sci Fi, it strikes me that the ECW boys may be having a few too many Hardcore Rules matches on their TV shows. If you have one every week, they cease being special. If one table isn’t enough what is? 5, 10? I vividly recall at Summerslam fans yelling “We Want Fire” during the” I Quit” match between Flair and Foley. What in the hell is up with that?! What’s next……organ donation??I like what I am seeing from C.M. Punk on ECW. He has a tremendous upside. Let’s hope Punk avoids the injury bug and the mental strains of potential stardom. My advice to him would be to remain diligent and professional, work harder than anyone in the building, and be prepared to carry the ball when your play is called. What, wrestlers taking lie detector tests on TV? Stop it now, please, I am begging you! Wrestling shows that try and “out WWE” the WWE is like flatulence in the wind, it just blows away. A wrestling show that focuses primarily on the in ring product might be a novel concept for a budding WWE wannabe. No one is going to out “WWE” the WWE. I went through the exact same issue while I was at WCW in the late 80’s-early 90’s. The Midnight Express’ Bobby Eaton seems to be doing o.k. and did not have a heart attack as was erroneously reported on the ‘net. What a great game by former Road Warrior Animal’s son James Laurinaitis, # 33 and middle linebacker for Ohio State, against Texas. Man, James’ Mom must have been one helluva athlete. (Only kidding, or am I and this is the covert message of the week sponsored by Oliver Stone??) One of the Longhorn’s biggest fans, literally and figuratively, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes, was dreading running into me at MSG on Monday after the Buckeyes trounced Dream’s Longhorns. I was gentle with the son of a plumber from Austin much unlike what he will be to me if Texas beats Oklahoma this season. Hell, OU has more than their hands full at Oregon Saturday afternoon. That’s the only game this season I will miss due to my travel to Toronto but I plan on watching the game in the DFW airport and then catching my early evening non stop flight to Toronto for Unforgiven. Here’s a word of advice to all aspiring, wannabe WWE Divas. It will/should take more than a breast enhancement and a fake tan to get a job in the WWE. I would suggest one familiarize one’s self with the product, and understand the physical demands this job requires. Being an athlete would be a good thing as well. If you worry about a broken, fake finger nail you may have problems. This is a special business and one should study its history. Rent or buy some WWE DVD’s and educate yourself on the heritage of the business. Plus, being able to talk in complete sentences is a good thing, too. It was great to see my Oklahoma pal and country music superstar Toby Keith at Raw Monday night. Check out his movie “Broken Bridges” which is in selected theaters now. Toby and I have spend many hours together on the sideline at OU Football games and he is still a regular guy in spite of being almost as rich as Mr. McMahon. Toby and yours truly both live in Norman, Oklahoma and I am partners in his “Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill” restaurant in Bricktown in OKC. Many of RAW’s biggest stars will be dining there the night before RAW in OKC. I hear that the DVD regarding the History of the WWE Championship is a good one. I am going to watch it this week. The Brian Pillman DVD was awesome. I think I can watch Brian’s again without having to get up and walk outside as I did the first time. It looks as if more changes are a float in the WWE Developmental System. This entity is close to my heart and I truly believe within it lies the future of the WWE. There is nothing more important than the development of new superstars within the WWE Developmental System. If one thoroughly reviews the talent rosters under the WWE umbrella, in addition to Mother Nature’s issues, a key injury here or there could do serious damage to the product. Now is the greatest time that I can remember in the past 30 plus years for a young man or woman to want to make sports entertainment their life’s work. I am looking forward to the continued development of Cody Runnels, son of Dusty Rhodes, and Teddy and Mike DiBiase, son of the Million Dollar Man, as all three of these young men may have what it takes to break through and successfully follow in their talented father’s footsteps. Much like Harry Smith and Dallas Hart, I am hoping these second and third generation athletes can be the building blocks for the WWE in the future. My friend Kurt Angle, my wife is a Pittsburgher, too, is doing well with his time away from the travel and the physical demands of the road. Kurt Angle is a winner and Kurt Angle is the only person who can win this particular “match” he is in. No one else can tag themselves in. This is Kurt’s fight to win or lose and I feel strongly that much like everything else Kurt has done in his life that Kurt will get his hand raised. That certainly doesn’t mean that Kurt’s lovely wife Karen is not there to support her husband and the soon to be father of two beautiful children. She is. Kurt is a lucky man in that regard. I hope Kurt is not tempted to accept what I am sure is a ton of offers to step back into battle before it is time with everyone wanting to make a quick buck off of him. The mixed martial arts business is hot again, for the moment, and there is no doubt that ambitious promoters would love to have the 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist step into an octagon or whatever to help maintain their PPV momentum. MMA has long had challenges building an abundance of marketable stars and Kurt is a “made man”, if you will in all due respect to one of my all time favorite shows, “The Sopranos”. Kurt’s focus right now is on his family and his health. I fully expect, and yes this may be considered wishful thinking by some, but I fully expect to see Kurt Angle back in the WWE in the future and would love for it to happen in time for Wrestlemania 23 at Ford Field in Detroit on April 1, 2007. Kurt is one of my guys and as Coach Barry Switzer, the former Oklahoma Hall of Famer, has told me many times when you recruit a player you recruit him for life and that’s how I feel about Kurt. Thanks for checking out this week’s blog and please tell your friends about our site. Our store is allegedly going to be up and running soon, or so I am told, and when it opens I hope you will do a little shopping as we will be selling our delicious sauces and some “J.R.’s BBQ” and “Slobber-Knocker” merchandise. I also do a football blog each week as well. Thanks for all the emails and I am answering as many as time allows and reading them all. Please make them as succinct as you possibly can. Take care! J.R.

My only complaint right now is that Brian Kendrick and Paul London aren't getting the push that they deserve. THAT needs to change, big time.
hi did you get my email today? can you email me on my personal email about what i ask eariler. i'm trying to surprise them for christmas if stone cold austin will do this for me. love you guys. debra
JR, Yes I know, TNA is more suited for childern than WWE as they offer a more cleaner product. However, TNA offers nothing new to professional wrestling except a six-sided ring, which idea they stole from a Mexican wrestling promotion. Mike Tenay and the Cookie Monster have a good chemistry. The Abyss vs. Steve Burns, Joe, and Blue feud is getting ugly. And also, Abyss's appearance on Blue's Clues was awesome. I believe that Jody Fleisch, Ray Gordy, Seth Skyfire, Antonio Mestre, Kenzo Suzuki and his wife, Hiroko Suzuki, and Essa Rios would all be great additions to the ECW brand. Jamie Noble should also go back to his trail park gimmick and go extreme now that Kid Kash has been released.
WWE is and will always be far ahead of TNA even with the recent signing of Kurt Angle. Like Vince McMahon said on Byte This, Kurt Angle is only going to gain more permanent injuries wrestling as competitively as he has been. The end result of that is going to leave him very limited as what he will be able to do in the ring without risking anyone's life including his own. Brian Gewirtz should be fired. He is sabotaging ECW because he believes Raw should be the number one brand. He is the one who came up with the Steve Irwin comment and I believe that he is just an inch away from getting fired for that tastless idea. Vince McMahon was the first to bring wrestling to televison and tour all over the country and world. Let's face it TNA lacks the experience of the WWE, lacks the popularity of the WWE, and yet has the nerve to have ex-WWE stars on their roster bring their name up and blast them in lame unprofessional promos. They are nothing but a rip-off of WCW and ECW, only they suck so bad that their fans have to bring signs at WWE shows in order to try to get people to watch TNA iMPACT!. I believe that Jody Fleisch, Ray Gordy, Seth Skyfire, Antonio Mestre, Kenzo Suzuki and his wife, Hiroko Suzuki, Essa Rios would all be great additions to the ECW brand. Jamie Noble should also go back to his trail park gimmick and go extreme.
Dear Jim Ross, J.R I've been a fan of yours for years now and agree with you and like your commentating work. TNA needs to stop copying the WWE or worrying about them, look at WCW, they worried about the WWF's movments back in 1996-2001 so much it lead to there down fall (along with Vince Russo's booking). My self I watch Smackdown!, RAW, TNA Impact, and occasionally download NJPW matchs. Im a fan of ALL wrestling, with a dash of entertainment thorwn in there for fun. Its getting more obvious Over the last few years the WWE is going way to far with entertainment which i belive would lead into the WWE's down fall. I enjoy Smackdown! and TNA much more than RAW latley because they give more time to matchs and lay of the ''entertainment'' Everyone craps all over Smackdown! and yes it has some cheesy gimmicks like King Booker, but it's still my favorite Wrestling show because it relys on wrestling, it goes for TNA as well. RAW I still tune into every know and then and I really wish it would get back to wrestling, I'm not asking to go back to 1997 again, I mean the first 6 months of 2006 were phenominal, then it got back to a re-hashed DX, with ''Kiss my ass' main eventing RAW 3-5 times. I mean the WWE treated Christian like crap, he was ready to be the WWE champion in my fan's view opinion. The WWE isn;t going anwere for a long time and I hope it stays arounbd don't get me wrong, but itd be a hell of a lot better with more Wrestling. Everything I said wa smy personall opinion and i respect both TNA, and the WWE, and all the wrestlers on both rosters. Sincerly, James C.
With your remarks on TNA, sounds like you're watching it quite often as you seem to be keeping up with their storylines. And as a fan who's watched wrestling many of years, from the two companies out there right now, TNA is my wrestling show of choice. They're not afraid to use the words "Pro Wrestling" in their show whereas WWE is obviously Mr. Sports Entertainment with characters fresh out of the 1980's like Jamal from 3 minute warning trying to pull off an unconvincing replica of Samoa Joe with the samoan wrestler stereotype meter turned way up with him having tatoos on his face and spitting and yelling...gimme a break...Spirit Squad? Good wrestlers but one of the gayest gimmicks I've ever seen. King Booker and the King's Court, pardon me while I vomit in disgust as you put a reputable athlete in such a retarded gimmick. I could go on and on...Now you like TNA, much more realism. So there was a lie detector test...Given the circumstance, i think it fitted a good build up to a heel storyline with Jeff Jarrett and the fans. And as many fans enjoyed the segment, I fail to see what the fuss is about. You'll complain about lie detectors but you won't complain about Vince McMahon dressing up as a doctor and spending 15 minutes of air time pulling things out of some one's ass. Or Vince constantly overdoing his Kiss My Ass Club bit...Yeah, priceless WWE Entertainment I'm sure...I'd complain more about how Worst Wrestling Ever is going down the crapper, but I'd rather be reading stuff on tnawrestling.com.
Hmmm Kurt angle where to begin. They really screwed this one up. Another perfect example of wwe being to money hungry pushing no talent superstars like john cena. I think that this is the beging oIssues Press Release Regarding Kurt Angle, Primetime Story posted by Dan Pena on September 24, 2006 source: PWInsider.com TNA issued the following press release upon the conclusion of their No Surrender PPV: TNA WRESTLING MAKES TWO MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS Signs Kurt Angle iMPACT! Moves To 9 PM on Spike TV Starting Thursday, November 16 Nashville, TN, September 24, 2006 – Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling announced today that Olympic gold medalist and pro wrestling megastar Kurt Angle has signed exclusively with the company. It was also announced that TNA iMPACT! will move to 9:00 PM ET/PT Thursdays on Spike TV starting November 16. “This has been a huge week in our company’s history,” said Dixie Carter, president of TNA Entertainment, LLC. “The signing of Kurt Angle and the move of iMPACT! to 9 PM are both significant benchmarks in the growth of TNA. The history of pro wrestling is marked with events that change the landscape of the industry and I believe that this week will be viewed in that context.” Angle, a 2-time NCAA Division I champion and a 3-time NCAA Division I All-American, capped off his illustrious amateur career by winning a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Olympics, competing with two cracked vertebrae, two herniated disks and four pulled muscles. On November 14, 1999, Angle made his on-screen debut with the World Wrestling Federation. Since then, this 5-time WWE World Champion has held every major championship belt in WWF/E. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2003. “Kurt is considered the greatest wrestler in professional wrestling,” added Carter. “His in-ring ability is matched only by his leadership and attitude. We are thrilled Kurt is joining the TNA family and we look forward to a long, successful relationship.” “Being with TNA feels like I found my home,” Kurt Angle commented. “TNA will be the most watched show on cable TV – it’s just a matter of time. Thank you TNA for saving my career, my life and my desire to do what I love.” TNA also announced it will premiere in primetime on Spike TV starting Thursday, November 16, kicking-off with a two-hour extravaganza from 9:00 – 11:00 PM, ET/PT to celebrate the move. The following Thursday, TNA can be seen in its regularly scheduled timeslot (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), with encores continuing to telecast on Saturdays (11:00 PM – Midnight, ET/PT). “We’ve been impressed by TNA’s growth and the acquisition of Kurt Angle today continues to show us that wrestling fans, as well as professional wrestlers, know that TNA is the place to be and now primetime on Spike TV is the place for them to be,” says Kevin Kay, General Manager of Spike TV. you said that wwe is untouchable and now look your sinking and fast TITANIC ANYONE
Hay JR Looks like WWE lost another superstar to TNA.... KURT ANGLE. WWE's ship is taking on lots of water
Hey Yo, Let me say that this sunday no surrender ultimate x, my god there will be pain there will be suffering, but most of all there will be a damn good match. lets look at no mercy so far, booker vs lashley, come on. Russo comes in soon, tna gets better time slot, join the real revolution TNA. PS. Christopher Daniels is God TNA MY FRIEND IS IN THE HOUSE
WERE HAVE ALL YOU GUYS BEEN RUSO ALREADY HAS BEEN ON BOARD ONCE. I THINK GETTING BISCHOFF WOULD BE BETTER BECAUSE HE IS BRILLIAN BUISNESS,TALENT SCOUT AND HATES MR.MAC.Terry Taylor came up the the nwo gimmicks so really mr mac copied off bruiser kaboski and terry taylor for you wwe marks that was the red rooster.well I have to say impact last night was pretty intense. For you wwe guys out there stop the cheap shots at tna. If you guys think you are better . As i heard a pair of wise men say before Hall Nash"dont sing it bring it".
Tna getting a better timeslot = brilliant TNA getting two hours = brilliant Tna getting Russo we will wait and see.
i just want to say i'm really proud of what we all said in here
I forgot to mention that TnA is the revolution of pro wrestling. If it wasnt then i guess there wouldnt be any comment on them because wwe would hold there self to a higher level. THere is no doubt that wwe has more financial backing, and there is no doubt that wwe has bigger roster. i think that tna is loaded with potencial stars like Daniels, styles, rhino, cage,of course the icon The Man They call STING.I think that the I thik that if shano mack would take creative control and mac sr. would just stay off camera because he looks like stretch armstrong when he walks the aisle,it would be alot better wrestling and quality. Jeff Jarrett has come along way since departing with wwe. Lets just say he is one talent wwe wished they would have kept on the roster.
Lets get something out of the way first, I have been a fan of all the wrestling shows since i was young. Lately i have been tuning in to TnA on spike tv, every thursday night at 11pm, anyway i have to say "Iron"Mike Tenay is the professor of wrestling. Enough about that but i think the only thing wwe has going for them is DX. Dont get me wrong i am a fan of the stable but in a stable you need at least 3 members to be really effective. I think that dx is the only real thing going in the wwe.If the wwe played there cards right i think back in 2002 when hall and nash were in they could have created the Kliq angle. THis would have drawn in ratings out the you know what. But again wwe lacks creative controll. On with the other stuff i have to say. I want to say that Aj Styles is the greates light weight in the world right now. He is the most athletic and although lacks mike charisma he has the moves to knock that out of the water. I should say Slobber knocker"as good old jr would say. I wish the best for TnA because i see a reflection of WCW in the background. I would say that Ted Turner is keeping his eyes on theh tna potencial thats all im going to say. see ya peace from the Ice man ps love the BBQ sauce Jr. o
Looking at the creativity I've seen in the WWE recently, it seems as if a pile of lunch meat could "out WWE" the WWE these days. Get ready, Jim. October.
I have been a fan of pro-wrestling my entire life, literally as far back as my memory goes and as long as I can remember. i love and respect this industry. I am a definate lifelong fan and I DO know what I am talking about. Guys like you, JR, and your army of WWE brainwashed fanboys would try to tell me that its all about fireworks, pyro, big muscles, being a "hoss" and who throws around the most money that makes a good wrestling fed when I know better. Let me start by saying that anyone who calls you the "greatest commentator" of all time is severely retarded or blind or deaf or all 3. I have seen you screw up calling matches so many times, I could never keep count of them. Consistently calling wrestlers by the wrong name, calling moves by the wrong name, its embarassing as a fan. You can insult the "competition" all day and night but we both know who has the far superior product. I know and so d oyou JR, and its obvious you are getting scared by them. I dont blame you as you should be very worried. No John cenas in TNA. The roided out Batistas and HHHs call TNA nothing but spotfests, simply because WWE forces fans to think that every maych has to be that "slow big man HHH WWE style". It doesnt. WWE has tryed to kill wrestling but TNA will keep it alive. You see JR, TNA differs from WWE in that TNA gives the fans what they actually want, not what they try to force the fans to want, like you and Vince do. Every wrestler shouldnt have to do the same rest holds and slow big man matches as not to out show the "quality" main events featuring John cena and HHH. WWE has become simply unwatchable and its a matter of common sense that the competition gets my, and the real fans, viewership because the show/wrestling/overall product is WAY better. I hope you have a big enough lifeboat to fit into "good ol JR" because the WWE is a sinking ship. Its sinking fast and you know it, the WWE fans know it, and TNA knows it. There will be a day when good wrestling is on top again and its a matter of time bubba. You should be severely beaten for your out-of-line comments on ECW. You dont know anything about what ECW was or is to this day. WWE has succesfully killed the greatest Fed that ever was and turned it into another mindless WWE show (like we need another one of those) Why? Why would you do that? you saw and heard the reaction ECW got..why kill it and make it another WWE show? I will never understand your desire to ruin pro wrestling. Never. Long live TNA-RIP ECW
Russ you know nothing about the wrestling business, so shut up before i give you a lesson in old school.
Stop the racist steroypesand go back and repackage the tag team cryme tyme because they will not be efficent or taken seriously with their current gimmick and that will just beb more wasted talent. Shelton had it right the other night when he said it's cause he's black, joking or not shelton has all the tools to be the top star on raw but he's not given the chance and if it aint caues he's black then someone please explain why.
TNA real wrestling?! What a load of crap! The only real wrestling is the stuff they do in college and the olympics. TNA's product is boring, overrated garbage. Their ratings are sinking every week. Nobody buys their PPV's so they have to resort to promising lame B.S. like "the biggest announcement ever that will change the industry for ever". The truth hurts the TNA fanboys when people say that they are trying to out WWE the WWE. With garbage like lie detector tests, phony fan beatdowns, the Earl Hebner/Larry Zbyszko nonsense and the Jackass involvement. TNA fanboys talk about "real" wrestlers like AJ Styles, Rhino, Samoa Joe, Chris Sabin or Christopher Daniels. Please! They're all overrated trash and they'll never draw a dime. *AJ Styles is just some gymnist hick with no promo ability, no charisma and no marketable look. *Chris Sabin has no promo abilty or charisma what so ever. He's just some ordinary looking jabrone that doesn't stand out at all. Kevin Nash made a total fool out of him. *Christopher Daniels calls himself the "Fallen Angel", yet he doesn't do abything to explain his name or look and he's another undisciplined gymnist who is 36 years old and has a head that's bigger than his body. *Rhino was main eventing ECW when they went out of business. Coincidence?! I think not! All he does is whine and cry. He can't except that he's not, nor will he ever be, main event material. Rhino fits all the stereotypes non-wrestling fans have of wrestlers. Just some big ugly sweat hog who screams like a goof all the time. *Samoa Joe is just some big ugly no selling blob with average mic skills and no charisma. People like Tazz, Vader and Arn Anderson did what he tries to do today so much better. Joe couldn't lace their boots.
Damn there's a lot of TNA fanboys posting here. All of the people that make up TNA's 0.7 rating. Then again, it could also be the same buffoon posting over and over again under different names. Maybe even some goofs that actually work for TNA. There can't possibly be that many TNA defenders out there given their 0.7 ratings and their 20,000 PPV buys. Has TNA ever made a profit in their history? Yeah Right! Expanding to two won't do a damn thing for TNA. You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd.
JR You say wwe is better then TNA. Funny you would. See the thing is since the Vince bought WCW and ECW up in 2000 it hasnt had no compatition. Now TNA is starting to make a name for them selfs. Back in the mid 90's WWF/E was below ECW & WCW. Until you ripped off NWO Down Here Chop. And dont forget WWE's Boy VINCE RUSSO going over there and killing the WCW for WWE. ECW was a local company from PA and i went to a number of there shows. They where WRESTLING SHOWS not this crap that is ECW today. TNA is becoming the future of WRESTLING. More and more people are turning in to Impact every Thursday night @ 10 pm on SPIKE TV and Tuning out RAW and Smackdown. WWE may sell out MSG but TNA sells out PAY PER VIEWS.
I have to agree with your comment on TNA about the lie detector test. Being a big fan of TNA, beside the fact that Jeff Jarrett abuses the NWA title, I feel that the angle was unnecassary. I've also notice a decline in the amount of matches that Impact is showing, leaving me to believe that if they keep heading down the road they are head the will be "Sports Entertainment" as well, which is not the reason I watch TNA. I remember back in the days of Fox Sports net when TNA was showing pretty much nothing but matches for an hour. I also feel that TNA is holding down some of their best talent for Bigger name wrestlers and old WWE talent. I mean how can you overshadow a great X-Division title fight Senchi aka Low ki vs Chris Sabin by Christian Cage vs Rhino. I barely even heard mention of it on Impact last week. To all of those who think say that TNA is better then the WWE. In reality, it is not, they put on a different product, as you all seem to mention, and what JR was trying to say that it's was stupid on their part to use what most would consider WWE product when they claim to be a wrestling show. And it is true that TNA will never "Out WWE" the WWE, but they can and do out wrestle them.
One Last Comment: The Words "Sports Entertainment" are fine, but, they should never replace the word "Wrestling"
I would like to start off my saying at this point TNA is better than the WWE. Aside from D-Generation X, Jeff Hardy, and Sabu the WWE is all hype. Jeff Jarret and Sting are great champions and are legit main event wrestlers. Cena and Edge are not. Edge is still at the intercontinental level. Cena is a main event wrestler however his current gimmick is not working. Samoa Joe may be the most loved wrestler in the industry today. Joe is a legit contender for every TNA championship. The Tag Team division in TNA is simply unbelievable. The team of Aj Styles and Christopher Daniels are very good; however, they arguably are not the best team in TNA. The James Gang (New Age Outlaws), Team 3D (The Dudley Boyz), The Natural, or Americas most Wanted could easily be the Tag team champions. The Tag team division in the WWE (smackdown, raw) is just horrible. The Spirit Squad is a disgrace to all the great tag teams who have held the World Tag Team Titles. It is one thing to be booed because the fans hate you, which means that you are a good heel. However, it is another thing is to be booed out of the building because you are bad, in the case of the spirit squad. Paul London and Brian Kendrick are great tag team champions but, they have no competition. Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, Kenny and Carlito are being held back at this point in time and it’s affecting fans. Both Orton and Hardy should be contending for the WWE title. When I heard ECW was returning I thought it would be wonderful. However, it has been just plain bad. There is no Tag Division, the ECW "originals" have seemed to be forgotten, and ECW has become a third rate WWE brand. ECW has one champion. One Champion who is not even an ECW "original". Although Rhyno absolutely verbally murdered the WWE on TNA television, the WWE must re-create the ECW television Title. The most promising storyline of the summer, Tommy Dreamer and the Sandman (THE ECW ORIGINALS) vs. Test and Mike Knox (The Promising new comers) was dropped in the middle of much interest. J.R. it is very naive for you to state that the WWE is better than TNA because in actuality TNA is much better than the WWE.
Hank God that wrestling fans are now realising WWE has become stale and something not even resembling pro wrestling anymore. JR you call your product sports entertainment, when the problem is its not entertaining and it sure as hell aint wrestling so what the hell is it. Half the guys on your roster can't go except Benoit who has always been screwed over and never given a real chance and Angle who you have run into the ground. Also you punish Matt Hardy with Jobs to Animal (I refuse to call him Road Warrior whaen you refused to call the tag teams the Road Warriors) when the man who wrescked his life adam copeland aka edge is given the gold. On wwe all you see is something resembling Russo in wcw and that is not good. Batitsta sucks, HBK is passed it, HHH has always been dull, Booker T is brilliant but King Booker Sucks and cannot be taken seriously as you screwed him to start with, Cens is the worst wrestler alive except Khali, Edge is an awful man, Taker has to be carried and has only started to wrestle well look back to the early 90's and master pain days to prove it. Basicaly i could go on but the point is your roster main event scene sucks. Also when you had guys you screwed them over eg. Raven, Rhino, Kidman, Kanyon, Essa Rios, Funaki, Michinoku, Ultimo Dragon, Malenko, Saturn, Hugh Morris, Goldberg, Stasiak, Juvi, D-Lo, DDP etc. In TNA the guys who have been there have all been treated like the stars they are. You claim TNA is a copy, well it may seem abstract to you JR because you have forgotten what wrestling is. Batista insults AJ Styles, well AJ has more talent in one of his turds than that steroid monster. TNA is the future and wwe is the past, everyone though wcw was a joke until the nWo, which you coppied stole and minipulated, and soon all you fags at titan towers will eat your words when Bound For Glory happens, in front of just a couple of thousand. See thats the thing with TNA it doesn't say oh where can we get the most seats where can we make the most money so we can perform in front of dead drone fans, and play chants over the PA, no TNA does it all for real. Tell that to Mark Henry JR i know you didn't want to be labelled good ol JR, i know you didn't want to wear a cowboy hat, but you swallowed you pride and with it your soul. TNA TNA TNA TNA TNA TNA TNA TNA
Im glad to see all these people out in defense of TNA, as I plan to do. I think its interesting that you talk of TNA immitating and re-using WWE storylines, when it's not at all hard to draw parelells between current WWE characters and storylines with previous ones not beyond recent memory. TNA has a far better tag division than the WWE, it actually has hardcore matches, it has the X division and it has Raven (gotta love a wrestler who respects his fans enough to use words like precipice and antithesis). The WWE on the other hand has a horrible tag division, a watered down ECW where half the matches aren't even fought under hardcore rules, a cruiserweight division where a headlock is the main hold, a 61 year old mans arse, faeces falling from the rafters and an overabundance of silicone enhanced brain cell deficient "divas". And just to top it off, Batista has the cheek to call AJ Styles a spot monkey. Styles matches are the equivalent of a 20 minute highspot; they don't slow down. Batistas are 20 minute snore fests which shorten PPV lengths due to a compulsion to turn them off. And Im not even going to make an extended comment of John Cenas "wigger" persona. So, when it comes down to it, and you weigh up all of that, sure the WWE had its day, and sure it does still have its moments, but TNA provides shows that dont make me want to hit the fast forward button.
TNA rocks, I got bored of the wwe wen it changed, there is no orginallity anymore, John cena, bores the crap, booker t or 'king booker' nowadays bored the sh*t out of me. When steiner and goldberg where at wwe they were never used properly, it was always, oh give triple H the title, he got the wrestling ability of a fat man wearing stilts. Smackdown, isn't even worth talking about its that boring, everyone who works for that company, and have stayed there are just money grabbers, you work for TNA cause u wana wrestle. Yes some of the story lines have been used, but they are not over used like they are in WWE. Its likes watching an irritating advert when you watch the WWE cause it drags on and on and on. When TNA its done dusted, look whats happening to cena and edge, I hear a little jarret and sting there dont you think, and who did I see broadcast it first TNA. So if the WWE wana get wrestlers to kiss an old gits ass, then you can kiss my ass if I'm watching the WWE for a LONG!!!!!!! time
Pshhh. All these people taking sides on TNA vs. WWE. It is obvious that WWE is the better quality product. Money and experience will do that for you. But why can't we take all this for what it is? More wrestling to watch!
What really caught my eye in your blog was the Jeff Jarrett angle, and to be honest I don't think people should be all critical about the "OTHER" brand because WWE has been around for a LONG LONG TIME and I think people are just looking for an alternative, and by alternative, I mean a product that is not WWE produced, and it is true what the "other" show said when Rhino said "How can you relaunch a company when you don't have the LAST ECW champion?" But on the other hand I think the criticism about the other company is good because It will get the whole audience talking and it will help build the competitions product.
j.r i dont see why you dont like mma or tna because both are better brands than wwe. wwe has way too many things i cant agree with and refuse to watch on t.v. it aint a family show anymore especially with vince thinking he is a god. what a waste of a show and your life.
carnage, when they cancelled the show, Isreal was invading Lebanon, not to safe of an atmosphere... The middle east is not a safe place, war is not safe. Americans have a unique position in foreign countries due to the political positions of the US govt. And I'm sorry, but for any organization that wanted to make a point, a live event with Thousands of people would be a perfect target. I cant blame em. And to reference the Jerusalem Post the "pretend peace" (direct quote) could unfold at any time.
TNA is the alternative to some of the cartooney foolishness that WWE partakes in every now and then. There's hasn't been a "wrestler" in WWE in a while, now there's "Sports entertainers". WWE wouldn't know what to do with a Samoa Joe or A.J. Styles (who by the way, has rejected a WWE contract a record 3 times). You already messed up with people like Raven and Rhino, so hopefully you WON'T get Christopher Daniles or Chris Sabin under contract because you'll make them into watered down bastarizations of what they really are in the ring. You've already killed RVD's time at the top, how many lives must you ruin, huh? I respect you as a one of the best commentators of all time, but do the Smarks a favor, and keep TNA's name out of your mouth. RKB "Mr. A.D.D."
Yeah i hate the way JR is so keen to insult a company tiring to make a name for itself but won't say a bad word about the company which treated him like **** and has a boss who loves himself to much. Go to hell JR
Ross clearly your years of being wwe's corporate voice have affected your understanding of the WRESTLING business. Notice that i didn't call it sports entertainment, because i believe that i owe the repect to the funks, race, flair, sting, sammartino, thez, davey boy smith, savage, hartall the other greats that have ever been not to call their work mere entertainment ignoring therisk and talent involved THE BUSINESS IS PRO WRESTLING And on the subject of wrestling you take shots at TNA, when why would i want to turn on raw and see a 61 year old man hogging the spotlight taking steroids with his arse hanging out, when on the other side i can see guys giving like aj styles, samoa joe (OH YEAH NICE CONTRACT OFFER YOU GAVE HIM) christopher daniels who you ignored and chris sabin. TNA is about the wrestling yet your mcmahon filled mind can only lie about what you know as true and that is TNA IS THE FUTURE, not vince mcmahon and his kids with his damn son in law running the whole f'n show. Tenay got every thing right you really are a stupid fat old man, who should take of the cowboy hat, shut the f*ck up about bbq sauce and retire P.S. why screw all the talented guys
hi jr, i just want to thank you guys for the great "entertainment" you've given me all of my life. i'v been a wrestling fan since birth. i just have a couple of things to say... i like tna, i commend them for filling the void that was left by vince buying the competition. you see, each (televised) promotion tries to do something that the others aren't, and in doing so they drive each others success. wwe has got to raise it's game a little, and if tna suceeds and causes that to happen then i'm all for it. i'd personally love to have two great promotions than two mediocre ones. it's pretty bad when one of the promotions has unlimited resources and the other can barely make it happen and they both end up being the same in terms of entertainment. tna seems to be making some of the same mistakes that drove wcw into the ground and wwe is still doing the same old things. from what i understand the wrestling buisness is a very tight knit community with little to no opinion shared from the "outside world". the story lines (on both shows) need to be more "beliebable" were not children (most wrestling fans) and children aren't allowed to watch wwe anymore. we can't believe. that kain was thrown into a burning dumpster or shane had his testicles electricuted or that god struck the ring with lightening. anyway, like i said i'm all for competition it makes WRESTLING better not just one company
Super site JR! I missed reading your Ross Report on the state of the business from your perspective! But you have done twice the job on giving us the "real scoop" here on you new and improved site! And for that I thank you! Can you please however just answer me this one question? JR, what ever happened to Matt Morgan? The guy was like the only 7 footer in "sports entertainment" that was actually in great shape, and was by far the best athelete on the roster of Smackdown. I have been watching WWE for over 25 years and he seemed like he had everything it took to be at the top of your business. I saw old OVW tapes and saw what a great promo guy he was! So why did WWE staple him with the "stuttering character"? 7 footers that can talk, be athletic, be in tremendous shape, and can actually wrestle are almost impossible to find! I read somewhere he is on the verge of signing with TNA! Is that true? I know that J.Cornette loves this kid and getting him to TNA would give that show a big, huge if you will, shot in the arm! Do you think he would ever come back to WWE where he actually learned how to wrestle in the first place? Great job on responding to us life-long fans of WWE. I appreciate all the hard work you put in to being the best broad caster in any of our era's!! I was mad when WWE took you off, but now you are back I never miss a show!!!
Hello, Jim Ross. Still pushing that "good ole' J.R." gimmick I see. I'll make this short and sweet Mr. Ross. Your recent blog about TNA trying to out WWE your company was pathetic. TNA is obviously a better product, and I thought you were a man of integrity. Your fear of TNA is bold. The fact that TNA hasn't stollen ALL of the fans of the WWE yet is a testiment to the extent of loyalty the fans of wrestling posess. They watch your show in the hope that they will feel that same thing they felt years ago. But it never comes. You have no respect for wrestling and no respect for those who keep it afloat. I have been a life long fan of the WWE...and why? Because it was the only main stream promoter in the game. But after finding out about the ORIGINAL ECW and later TNA WRESTLING, I realized that I didn't need to watch a show that people willingly called a "SOAP OPPERA FOR MEN." As I flip through the channels on Monday Nights, I sometimes scan your show for a few minutes...and after watching it recently, I must tell you this: "watching any of WorldWrestlingEntertainment's programming, is like watching an old friend commit suicide...nice and slow." I HOPE YOUR COMPANY FALLS...AND THE FANS OF WRESTLING SEE YOU FOR WHAT YOU ARE...TYRANTS. LONG LIVE Total NON-stop ACTION WRESTLING Post Script: I guess it wasn't short and sweet...Sorry Post, Post Script: My spelling is horrible...and for that I apologize.
I am sick of ppl dissing TNA it is a great show and it is better for older wrestlers because TNA travles some but not alot and thats good i like that i can just drive down the road and watch the greatest action i ever seen . also TNA dosent have a whole bunch of retards talk about " Im going to beat u bla bla " its so anoying i like ACTION not constent commercals about DX and ECW that both suck now i am sick of WWE trying to bring back the past to it is crap so ppl STOP DISSING TNA u may think WWE is better if u like ppl talking and then dancing its ok but still TNA is just a better show for me becaus its more action
I'd rather watch Jeff Jarrett take a lie detector test than see Vince's ass, HBK's poor acting, or see Jim Crow (and assuming you learned history, you know who I mean) dominate Edge all the time.
TNA rules man. they only have a few segments on their show, where as wwe has long and boooring ones, and you come after what few segments they have? look if you don't like it then don't watch it. Not that i hate hate wwe in fact i love EDGE and love watching him on the show. But why is mcmahon on it all the time? and why are there more segments than wrestling matches? and why is the tag team division in the crapper? the tag team belts don't mean anything anymore..don't you remember the good days when LOD ruled? how about team xtreme, E&C, dudley boyz, apa, T&A..after the invasion angle you really lost touch with the tag belts. and why is smackdown in the crapper? you took away all the talent from smackdown and put it on Raw, poor Batista and King booker, the only main eventers left on the active roster.
wow man too long
I sure hope that boss ass kisser sure reads these comments
beyond cm punk your product is worthless. and i make sure to watch him via a means that give the wwe absolutely no income. pretty much, i boycott said produce for being tripe. i'd much rather endure jeff jarrett being a twit then anything your program has to offer[minus cm punk, but that is more roh influence then anything else]. basically, justify how you can take a pot shot at another promotion when you crank out a sub par product. like i cant really think of a positive thing about your shows beyond you handing a paycheck to finnley, regel, cm punk, roadkill[cant wait to see what your scripting genius's come up for him] and a handfull of others a paycheck[i assume a pretty sad one in comparison to your top stars, but whatever]. i say this because i respect the talent of these men outside of the terrible roles you have them in within the garbage program you hail as have redeeming qualities. i know tna has issues, but i can turn it on and generally see at least one solid match. you have 5 hours of wwe programming a week, and in that it is lucky to have a single non-stinkfest [minus cm punk, who usually performs at a good level]. here's hoping monday night football buries you [even though i also hate football]. it is apperent how much the wwe thinks of its fans, and i think more fans should show them the proper respect....by boycotting tv, house shows, merch, etc. and yes, i understand in doing so i could technically be hurting the handful of workers i truly respect, but in the end they are so talneted they will always be able to find jobs, so why worry....
I wish WWE was more like NWA-TNA. You guys should be lucky that Jeff Jarrett is down there screwing things up for them.
WWE is a joke
J.R., I enjoy reading your opinions, because you simply are the best. I hope you're proud that so many people responded and hopefully you'll continue the blog.
Your comment abouyt TNA could be no further from the truth.. TNA is all about in ring action.. there has been no real story lines in TNA. I tried watching it for the first few months then i got sick of it because there is no real entertainment there. Hopefully vince will buy out the company and end this misery that is called TNA.
Once again the site i www.aacwrestling.com that I twice I incorrectly typed the site wrong.
