We are burning daylight so let’s get started:

Kurt Angle- This matter is really getting a great deal of feedback and may be borderline over analyzed. Kurt needed time off to deal issues he has throughly discussed on his own website. As I understand it the WWE and Kurt mutually agreed to release Kurt so he could heal physically and mentally and then puruse other options including coming back to the WWE if he was healthy and chose to. No one betrayed anyone here. Kurt needed to step away from the WWE and heal. It was that simple. For anyone to say Kurt was “held back” is a little far fetched to me. Kurt made a ton of money in the WWE and earned a worldwide reputation. What else was he supposed to do while in the WWE? This business is about making cash, plain and simple. Kurt made big money and got famous in the WWE. He deserved all his accolades and the rewards that went with them. TNA is not going to become an overnight sensation with or without Kurt Angle. One man does not a company make. I perceive and am told that there are conflicts of interest issues in TNA but that’s hearsay because I am not there. I hope everyone in TNA are all successful and finally reach profitability.

Vince Russo in TNA- I wish him the best. I have no ax to grind with Russo. We have not always agreed philosophically but that doesn’t necessarily make either of us wrong. Russo has had some excellent concepts in the past. Perhaps he can re-generate those types of ideas in TNA. Time will tell. The question is can Russo comfortably write reality based story lines and stay creatively stimulated. I think the trend is going back to in ring drama and physicality but that may just be my wishful thinking.

The WWE has had numerous talks with Sting over the years but Sting was never overly interested in working anything but a part time schedule at the time. Sting is a class act and a talented, good man.

The old ECW is dead. It has been buried. It will not be returning which I think is a good thing. The new ECW has the chance to be successful for years and keep their wrestlers healthy. The old ECW physically gobbled up wrestlers and broke them down to shells of themselves. I like the new ECW. I enjoyed the old ECW, too, but its time has passed.

ROH- I don’t see enough of the Ring of Honor to accurately comment on their group. I read about them from time to time and do respect their passion. Their wrestlers really work hard. Got to love that.

Undertaker quit? I sure as hell hope not. Not only is Taker a great Superstar but he is one of the greatest leaders in the locker room that this business has ever seen. I know of no one in the business I respect more than The Undertaker.

Tag Team Wrestling- In virtually every area of the world I get a chance to preview, tag team wrestling in general is not good. Not enough guys are setting their goals to be a part of a great team as the big money is in singles matches.

If you want to be a writer in the WWE contact the WWE Human Resources department and if you get hired be ready to work 6-7 days a week.

Bryan Danielson- I have no idea if Bryan is the best in the world but drawing money is a criteria as to who is the best in the world and not simply being a sound technician.

Does Vince McMahon own TNA? Not hardly. But who knows, he might some day.

Is Eric Bischoff coming back to WWE TV- Your guess is as good as mine and I spoke to Eric Tuesday in Tulsa and he did not know then.

JBL- The man himself told me he was planning on staying with Smackdown for the foreseeable future. JBL is a good talker and does a nice job on Friday nights with his colorful commentary and making Michael Cole’s life challenging.

NWO-I don’t know where all the NWO/DX stuff is coming from but I would seriously doubt that this will ever happen to where the nWo comes to the WWE and if, and that’s a big if, it would not be long term. My money says it won’t happen. it might be fun for a while to see it but it isn't likely to happen but I could be wrong.

Does J.R. ever want to become a manager? NO…thanks.

Jeff Johnson brings up an interesting point: http://www.jrsbarbq.com/blog/2006/09/28/still-responding-to-emails/#comm... If the WWE/Vince McMahon can bring back ECW, albeit under their style of booking, why not WCW? WWE Raw is essentially the WWE's defacto or prime show, while SmackDown! can have the same purpose for a revived WCW. The US heavyweight title and World Heavyweight championship belts are basically relics of the old WCW. The US belt was basically the top title in the Mid-Atlantic area, before it merged with Georgia Championship Wrestling (whose top title was the National Heavyweight title belt). Then the US title champion Nikita Koloff won a unification match against National heavyweight champion Wahoo McDaniel to unify the titles. I think the WCW World heavyweight belt, now the World Heavyweight Champion belt, became necessary, when WCW, the biggest promotion in the NWA, withdrew its' membership in the NWA, thus facilitating the need for their own World title. This was similar to the situations when ECW and WCCW withdrew in earlier years, not to mention the AWA and WWWF. Let's not forget TNA recently withdrew from the NWA as well. The NWA must not be that intelligent, or perhaps it was time for these promotions to leave, because they didn't really need the NWA anymore for their survival, as they may have done so in the past.
I used to watch wrestleing with my dad before he passed away and Istill do Im 14 and that was in 1995 when i watched it with him. my favorirt is kane and iwant to know if he will get his orignal costume back. and did undertaker realy quit that stinks. thanks.
J.R, can you please ask Mr.Mcmahon to bring WWE back to Moncton,New Brunswick, canada for a show? I would like for RAW to come because it has the best annouce team in my opinion and better superstars. But it wouldn't matter what show it was.If you can, please bring it in 2007 or early 2008.Also this would be my first WWE show.If it was RAW that came,I would like to see ECW as well.to me that would be a great event. Also, ask Mr.Mcmahon to put at least one title on the line if you can.By the way,i will watch WWE Backlash and i might come back tell you all about the show. But anyway i guarentee it will be a great ppv event.I bet the RAW main event will be great.Anyway,i hope RAW can come to Moncton,New Brunswick,Canada.Keep up the great work on RAW and i will watch every single show.

JR yawhzah! :D
JR: Thanks for taking the time to write your blog. If there's anyone who can talk turkey about sports entertainment, you're that man. So, with that being said...some replies I hope are at least worth the bytes they are occupying. First: ECW. Actually, I am in agreement that the old ECW cannot be resurrected. But, I don't find myself satisfied with the new product either. As for tossing in the proverbial two cents, I am of the impression that at the core of its mission, ECW was about innovation. And, in light of this, and the network which carries this program, I think ECW should work towards "what a pro wrestling match of the future" should look like, and make this its central mission as a product. The debate would be regarding production, lighting, and other techniques that highten the in-ring drama. As a show, I'd love to see ECW try new things with presentation and production, and then have the WWE use successful experiments on RAW and Smackdown on those shows. In this way, ECW would have a separate identity...and continue to push the envelope of innovation for the betterment of the overall product. Tag team wrestling: One of the biggest problems with tag team wrestling is simply that no one has those tried but true squash matches anymore. It is difficult to get the audience excited about a tag match at a PPV when we've already seen the 3 or 4 established teams fight each other numerous times. I remember very well the heydays of the tag era, and I also remember that in many instances, the actual tag match wasn't even seen until the PPV. There were singles matches between members of opposing teams, and other types of matches, but there was always something "left" for the PPV. If tag team wrestling is going to return to prominence, I do not see how this scenario can be avoided. And, finally, a thought about Angle. There's no two ways about it: Angle has put on some of the best matches in WWE history. But in his condition, there has to be an argument that he needs to heal...even if you don't care about Angle as a human being, he's not going to be able to deliver those kinds of matches in his condition. I truly hope Angle does take the time off he needs and eventually finds his way back to the WWE. I don't want to see Angle seriously hurt himself, or someone else because of his health issues. Well, that's it for me. Keep up the good work, JR, and I'll be watching...
Wow...this past Raw stunk on ice. I actually flipped the channel and started watching "Welcome Back, Kotter" on Nick At Night. I didn't bother to watch "WWECW" and I think Iron Chef is beating Smackdown's ratings. Here...I'll make it easier for you: JOHN CENA - There isn't enough farm-fresh produce in the midwest to throw at this man. He comes out and salutes for cheap pops and loud boos, and isn't even a real marine. Much like how Jamie Foxx isn't really Ray Charles. I guess the whole "thug life" thing wasn't working after his music video featured posh mansions, Cadillacs, and his goofy dad on his front lawn barbecuing and wearing a "Kiss The Chef" smock. I was appalled that he didn't use your barbecue sauce on his filet mignon. JEFF HARDY - Do you pay this man in Twinkies? Seriously...he's the chunkiest "high-flyer" I've ever seen. Next time tell him to do a sit-up before he returns to the ring. KENNY, MIKEY, JOHNNY, DOPEY, GRUMPY, BASHFUL AND DOC - Useless and annoying. These poor guys have to "pay their dues" by dressing up like male cheerleaders. Nice gimmicks, Vince. Anyone seen The Boogeyman, lately? CHRIS MASTERS - I seriously thought you grabbed Randy Orton, put him in a cape and red trunks, and lied and said that it was Chris Masters. That's how DEFLATED this guy looks. Someone tell him Lex Luger wants his gimmick back. Maybe if he slams a big Samoan guy acting as a big Japanese guy, I'll give him some credit. SHAWN MICHAELS - Sorry...I don't feel comfortable discussing him due to his religious beliefs. TRIPLE H - Sorry...I don't feel comfortable discussing him due to Shawn's religious beliefs. MICK FOLEY - You pulled his page off WWE.com! Don't tell me Bam...I mean...Mick Foley's page was using up too much bandwidth! HULK HOGAN - Yeah...we'll see ya next time your daughter writes a book or something. I think her CD actually fell behind John Cena singing "That's What Friends Are For" with Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, and Elton John. "HACKSAW" JIM DUGGAN - J.R., tell this guy to get on the bandwagon and start making horrible B-movies that me and my friends can goof on. I'm sure wrestling fans and movie-goers alike would love to see Hacksaw's brilliant performance in "Santa With Muscles II: The Rise Of Blizten." RIC FLAIR - But how is it that Kevin Nash gets injured from making a pastrami on rye and this guy still runs out there and woos every night? Well that's enough for now. This has all been real, and it's all been fun. But has it all been real fun? Later.
Dear Good ol' JR, This is what I want to happen in the WWE. First Off Please, Please God o might please turn Cena back into his Smackdown self where he used that necklace but was still a face. The fans loved him back then, but now they want the old Cena. Not this new Cena "The Marine" or what ever you all want to call him. Stop giving him more gimmicks and just let him turn heel PLEASE. Second Off There needs to be a third member in DX so that HBK can get healed up. I suggest either John Cena as his Smackdown self or Shane O Mac a face turn for Shane, and joining DX could bring in big ratings and money. Third Off The New ECW needs to fouces on more orginal ECW superstars and less new ECW stars. Fourth Off This is a major issue in the WWE, WWE NEEDS GOOD TAG TEAMS that are not jobbers and that stay active for their entire carrier in the WWE. Fifth Off WWE needs better use of their superstars and less on promos and storylines. Sixth Off Bring Heat and Veloicty back to tv and either have them on MTV, Spike tv, G4 tv, or USA. But please I miss the Heat and Veloicty matchs. Espically Veloicty, sense I have Direct TV and they dont have local channels, or the CW channel I can not get Smackdown so Veloicty was my olny way of getting to watch Smackdown superstars. Seventh Off Plain and Simple The WWE has SOOOOO many superstars on the Raw, SD, and ECW roster, so why is half of the jobbers not even getting used or getting fired????????????????????????????????????????????????? Eighth Off Do not give most people gimmicks, just let them wrestle as them selfs or if you want to give people gimmicks then give them gimmicks that are awsome, and not lame or Retarted. I will probally post some more stuff but please WWE LISTEN TO THE FANS! Give the fans what they want when they want, and how they want if they want to see Big Show vs Chavo then give it to them and make it a good match. Stay the same J.R. dont change, From a loyal fan, Trenton
jr, i have been watching raw for about 8 years, its really starting to suck, you and the king are good, but the storylines suck, the attitude era is over i know that but damn bring older wrestlers back. do you agree?
I've managed to catch RAW the past few weeks, when all of a sudden something hit me while watching last nights segment. Many moons ago while in the back at a CWF show,I had listened to what the late Eddie Graham had said after a show, which I remembered during last nights RAW. "Fans sometimes watch, but do not see" is what Graham had told the boys in the locker room. I can see where the WWE is going with Cena, and while it may seem a bit predictable at this stage,it's what I see happening later down the road that makes it worth watching develop. As far as fans saying the WWE is killing wrestling,I do not agree. What is killing wrestling in todays market are the "Smarks" (Smart Marks) as well as the internet and those who make a living at exposing every aspect of "kayfabe" within the business. Some blame does rest on all wrestling feds on why fans do not get drawn to a character so closely as they once did. A good example would be "Alejandro Estrada", one cannot expect for a fan to totally eat up his gimmick when they can easily "Google" his character name and see he is not Cuban blooded, this sort of easy to find information is what kills it for fans, Umaga? We all know who he is! There is no more mystery,no more wonder, and that to me is what is "truly" killing wrestling as a whole, not the WWE. Yet some blame does have to go to the creative team, if you are placing an Irish gimmick on someone, make sure he is Irish, how hard can that be? As far as TNA is concerned,I like a lot of what they are doing, mainly drawing star power to a new generation of young talent, but as Graham said,"Fans sometimes watch but do not see",see SD and you'd see the WWE is using SD as a ladder for young talent to climb their way up to the top, just as TNA does. 6 sided ring? Enough said! What does kill wrestling for me today is the fact seeing the champion defending his title on TV,week in and week out. This does not create the "Gotta attend" a live show or order the PPV urgency I imagine a wrestling company is desperately trying to capture,$$? The entire "mystery" of "what is going to happen next" is gone, get back to delivering the "mystery" and watch the stock prices,PPV orders & live attendance rise! Another thing that gets my blood boiling, is seeing the disrespect Champions have for their titles,in todays world, Champions throw around their titles as if meant nothing to them, instead of respectfully folding their titles and handing them over to the ref or ringside assistant, as it should be done! Which is yet another lost trait in wrestling,"respect"! Kurt leaving? Big deal, having retired as an events promoter and from the film industry,I always say, that wrestlers only have 15 minutes of fame,if they do not get their 15 minutes of airtime they will disappear faster then an all you can eat 'for free" buffet. Kurt will have his 15 minutes, but it won't be a constant 15 minutes like he had at the WWE,TNA will milk what's left of his fame and move on to the next guy once shirt sales have dropped. Kanyon? Hmmmm.... I've read his myspace claims, some comments may "seem" to have some merit, but we're talking Vinnie Mac here folks,Vinnie Mac knows the whole "homo" gimmick sells, and sells well,I doubt "Prince" Vince wouldnt milk a Kanyon coming out party to benefit his pocket! I agree with fans who say the WWE signs and then lets go of some great talent, but I also understand that times have changed and those who are great "in-ring" talents should also be able to work the mic in order to get over,if not, I agree they have to go. (Example) Hulk Hogan, don't tell me Hogan "is or was" a great wrestler, but he could draw fans close to him on pure charisma, that moreso then in ring ability has always rocketed talent to main event status, use JYD as an example and you'll get the picture. Angle,Hart,Guerrero and many others had both skills, but good luck trying to find a roster filled with guys who can work in the ring and on the mic. Muscle heads, it's great to have a roster filled with genetic freaks, but personally I wouldnt use them if they couldnt go or keep up,which is why I like the direction the WWE is using Murdoch, far from Mr. Universe but getting a push for his ring ability, just like the old days! Oh and JR,could you tell me where to apply for a job as a WWE writer? Not that I havent seen the WWE Corporate link on the WWE main site which leads you to the job listing page!(Insert sarcasm here) "Fans sometimes watch, but do not see" God Bless
If it's ok I'd like to make another comment I was thinking about to add to what I typed above. Here's a few fixes I think would help WWE tremendously - 1. Stop predictable outcomes. Instead of a run in interference being a rare thing, it's become all too common. You can see who's facing who and know the outcome at the start of RAW. If I see Edge vs. Cena on a Monday night, I know someones going to run in, or Lita's going to hand Edge a chair. If I see Spirit Squad (God those guys are boring), I know they'll at some point pull their opponent out the ring as the Ref gets pulled to the side by the competing one as they 4 on 1 whoever. At one point a run in, or chair shot secretly, were special rare endings that really drew heat, now everyone expects it to happen every other match. 2. Cut back on the talk, anymore WWE is 2/3 or more talk, and 1/3 or less wrestling. Fact is I know that the general viewer to WWE anymore doesn't care, and will enjoy it being a soap opera as much as a wrestling show. Ratings for WWE have been slipping tho, because many of the wrestling fans feel lost. Vince has made wrestling into a bad word on his show, and replaced it with sports entertainment. Wrestling is however what many of us want. We don't want every match to end with a bloody chair shot, I'd much rather it end with two guys giving it their all in an awesome 'WRESTLING' match, the kind where at the end they hug and the fans give an ovation. Atleast in old ECW hardcore was simply part of the match, they still gave it their all and had great matches, now a chair shot is common in matches it's not supposed to be in. 3. Stop the stupid over the top storylines, plz for the love of God stop them. I'm trying to hold on to watching WWE, but your writers are killing it. This is a major reason I watch TNA all the time anymore, because fueds seem more grounded and take a long time to build up, there's no insulting the guys girlfriend, killing of babies (Kane and Lita anyone?), no setting on fire or anything else, just two guys wanting to go at it. Let's face it, WWE stories lately have skimmed the bottom of the barrel, anymore they focus on what gives pure shock value and it has decinsitized the viewers to the point of no shock anymore. Used a guy didn't touch a woman for any reason, wrestler good guys would rather get hit repeatedly and the heal would stop them before they ever did, anymore the fans cheer a woman getting hit, and the good guys like Cena have np hitting, spearing, or FU'ing women. 4. Plz stop holding wrestlers styles back. Lita's a great example, at one time she was a hell of a wrestler, moonsaults, hunacanrana's, and a variety of aerial acrobatics which is why she fit in so well with team extreme the Hardy's, now she wrestles like the Big Show (no offense, but he's supposed to be slow and powerful). She does less and less wrestling, and more and more of beating on her opponents, which I guess is a heal style. You have so many moves banned, which while I understand is for safety, it hurts the product. For years wrestlers have done these moves, and in places like TNA, Mexico and Japan promotions, and ROH they still do, in WWE however a cruiserweight can't do the full arsenal of moves he could do eslewhere. 5. Plz stop Vince from hurting the product for his own arrogance. This covers from him putting himself in a match with God (such disrespect), to putting himself on air more than all the nights matches combined air time. He takes it personal when a wrestler moves to another company and spites them, and tries to hurt them. Then 'IF' they do come back their put in long term contracts where they wrestle in mid-card hell. Good example is Matt Hardy who seems to have been hired back for no reason but to keep him out of TNA, and spite him for his web blog. The guys an amazing athelete and has so much potential, but he'll always be sub par on WWE as he's constantly held back for no reason, the fans know what they want and who they like, yet the ones they like are held down, and the ones we hate are forced down our throats. Like John Cena, nothing against the guy but he has a very limited number of moves, and anytime he hits a particular move you know which he's going to do next. We booed and booed, then ppl like me stopped going to live and house shows because it simply got boring, yet he kept getting crammed down our throats. Eventually some ppl gave in as they saw it never changing, and the female fans became more vocal in cheering for him. Ppl like Rock and Austin were bad guys we loved and cheered, we liked them no matter what storyline they were put into and eventually WWF listened and made them turn to good guys, John Cena we were supposed to like from the beginning, but instead of turning him heal because of the fans reactions, you pushed him and put him against guys the fans couldn't help but boo (Like Edge who is a great heal personality wise) til ppl finally cheered him. Overall I think WWE has room for improvement, and it could easily be rectified by becoming a wrestling show again and following atleast closer to the attitude era. Also not insulting the fans intelligence with some of these storyline helps as well. And finally I really hope the writers who talk to you on headset stop making you not be you JR. You're one of the greatest announcers ever, but tonight again you agreed with King on puppies (you work better as the everyday guy who's decency won't allow you to degrade women), and you called everything a suplex tonight as I set there thinking "JR knows that's not a suplex, he just called 3 entirely different moves suplexes wow". I know the reason is to be less 'wrestling' like by dumbing down what moves are called what, but it doesn't fit you. Most of us know what most of the moves are, by calling it a simple suplex your not making it easier on fans, your insulting our feelings, and hurting your reputation. God speed JR and gl, I'm watching TNA for now but really hope in the future WWE gets back on it's feet and gets above what it's been doing lately. I've been a WWF fan since I was a kid, may only be in my early 20's but I grew up on the stuff, and have watched many older wrestling matches. Wrestling is not a dirty word, and it's what the buisness is whether Vince deny's it or not. Don't be ashamed of what brought this company to the table, and don't dance around the word, wrestling is what you do and what WWF has been for it's entire length, Sports entertainment is going to be what ruins it. Sport Entertainment is a soap opera that insults fans intelligence and is up there with ideas like the XFL, go back to wrestling and draw new fans in instead of only holding onto hardcore and children just finding out about the sport.
JR, Any update on when we can see Sonny Siaki on TV? I've been a big fan of his since the Flying Elvis' in TNA. Thanks for the sauce!
Dear JR, Great site and some interesting ideas here (at least the ones that are legible – ie Kent, WTF). I just wanted to point out that the biggest problem with the WWE IS the Creative team! People are complaining about Cena vs. Edge, Cena's spinner belt, and his lack of finishing moves, but they don't realize that Cena is just doing what he is told. He’s just playing his character, and following his [poor] script. (Fact is the spinner belt idea came from Konnan pitched to Rey and then given to Cena since it worked with his character.) If you had the chance to see Cena as the The Prototype, you should know he is talented, but because WWE Creative holds him back we don't get to see his true style. (If Deniro gets a bad script it doesn’t make him a bad actor, we just don’t watch the movie…) This is why Christian left. This is why Joe went to TNA instead. He didn't want to be told what moves to sell and how to wear his hair. Creative ALL needs to be fired and the control given back to the wrestlers. This is why the old ECW worked. This is why ROH is so popular. This is what got TNA started and let's hope Russo doesn't kill it. The lamest excuse for firing someone is "Creative didn't have anything for them". Look at Rob Conway for example. After leaving a nonsensical role in La Resistance, he came up with "The Con-way" gimmick himself, only to get banished to jobbing at house shows and HEAT after gaining some popularity. For years and years, the moves and promos came straight from the wrestlers. These guys have always been able to come up with good storylines. And they did it much better than a group of people that think 'sliming' somebody is entertaining TV. Plain and simple, get rid of the Creative team, give control back to the wrestlers, they know how to get the asses in the seats.
Dear Mr Ross, Good oh JR, your the voice of wrestling. I love to hear you on tv. I been a fan since the middle 80's, I'm 24 and I been a fan of the WWE since I was 4. WWE has had it's good times and bad times, I called myself a WWE fan when even one band wagon to WCW. I watch it and I like the light weights, but the story lines suck, WWE had more meaning with the story and the matches had more heart. I always wanted to be a wrestler, I tried, I did real good, I'm 5'6, 215 and I can take a fall. I sell the move real good and I can take an ass whipping, but I really fell in love helping the other wrestlers with there gimmicks and stuff. Back in 2004, we did a show that had a Tournament for the IEW championship. The owner who was 24 and one ****y s.o.b. there was about 24 people there, including 8 of my peeps. The week before we had talk about a change of the company (it was in some ones back yard.) I said we need to cahnge the name to something catchy. He did things from WCW and WWE, Why would we do something that has already been done. Lets be different. I said we need the tournament to be different, lets do a Iron Men Tournament, 8 men, 7 matchs, 3 rounds, 1 title. each match would be a gimmick, each round that passes, the harder the match gets. he said no, that day of the show he does it, but only the second round and final round. show suck ass until the gimmick matches started, people enjoyed it. I would like to apply for Writer for WWE. How hard is it to get the job. I can write very dialogue, a storyline, I'm trying to become a movie writer, I wrote 3 scripts, comedy, drama/action and triller. I'm working on my 4th. So I can write and make a person look good with my writing, I know Wrestling, it's in my blood, I think that I can help with the talent. The reason why Smack Down is doing bad is because of the bad writing and injuries. But it could be better, it takes time but there's a lot of fans dissapionted with SD! What's your top 15 best matches that you have seen in your career? My choices would be 1. hbk v angle wm 21 2. bret v austin wm 13 3. Orton v Taker wm 21 4. Edge v Foley wm 22 5. angel v brock wm 19 6. RVD v Jerry Lynn in 98(thier first match) 7. rock v austin wm 19 8. taker v flair wm 18 9. Triple H v Rock fully loaded 99' strap match 10. hbk v y2j wm 19 11. bret v hbk wm 12 12. Triple H v Austin best of 3 no way out 01' 13. Eddie v The Rock RAW of 02' 14. Savage v steamboat wm 3 15. bret v Bulldog summer slam 92 There not in order but these are my matches, what is yours? Nice talking with you, talk to you later. Take care
Hey J.r. I am completly filled with happiness with your sauces online. Yes and I will have it ordered first thing tomorrow. I still can't believe people don't like the innovated ways of Mr. McMahon. If it wasn't for him growing up in a beat up family , and saving every penny to buy the WWE. You wouldn't wrestling storylines , and character growth. It would be back in the old days with Bruno Sammartino nine year champion. Which is not a bad thing but it runs dry after a while with two people just wrestling. Not to be offensive to the legends which I was raised around ever since I have been born. The only beef I had with Vince was when I was twleve I wrote a letter to him. Even though mocked by fellow pupils and teachers that wrestling is fake really broke my heart. Then I found out the heartless broud (teacher) didn't even send the letters. Other then that I turned my hate away from Vince real fast. basically if there was no Vince around there is not really a show. Other then that, Jimmy Yang really impressed me, really felxible athlete. Never judge a book by it's cover because the man is a bonafide star in the making. DX has a great run right now with Vince and Shane. I don't know if your developing a rivalry with Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch. The way I see it it's a one way road for DX. But J.R who the hell am I to tell you what I think!! I love your blogs, I love your sauce , and I love the WWE. (Lets just leave like that) all time fan and customer, Bryan De Souza
TNA = WCW circa. 1990 No more, no less (with or without Kurt)
Hello, Mr. Ross A pleasure to find this website and make your acquiantance. I never knew about it, and I think you should plug it on RAW more. I find it a breath of fresh air that you allow the fans to post and reply to your comments, as well as WWE's comments regarding the state of the way things are in your company. Our government could learn alot from this example you and WWE present. Let me start by saying I haven't been watching RAW as religiously as I used to. I have been watching the product since I was about 5 years-old. I am 24, now, and my grandmother actually introduced me to it. She liked Jim Powers. I liked Ted DiBiase. I, like many other fans I'm sure, used to flip back and forth between Nitro and RAW during the whole "Monday Night Wars" thing. No need for a history lesson. Both shows produced some very memorable television, and as a fan for almost 20 years, I am proud to have been a part of it. But the reason why I haven't been watching as often is the direction the company is heading. A small example of this is the WWE title on RAW. C'mon. A belt that spins? It's a title. Not a hubcap. Seriously...supposing Ric Flair wins that belt again someday. Can you imagine a "spinny belt" around the waist of a 30 + year veteran and 16-time world champion? Which brings me to yet another point. Ric Flair. In my mind, the man has truly set the bar as to what true "legends" are in your industry. Other examples include your counterpart, Jerry Lawler, and Hulk Hogan. But they wrestle on a part-time basis. Why doesn't Flair? Not to sound cruel, but what does he have left to prove? He's proved himself in AND out of the ring. His legacy is secure, but there is such a thing as knowing when to hang up the boots for good, and moving on to that coveted "legendary" status. I don't necessarily blame your company for this, but someone needs to sit him down and explain to him that beating Ric Flair was considered to be an honor. Now, it seems to be a requirement to be on your active roster. I recently purchased the "McMahon" DVD. It wasn't as one-sided as my friends told me it would be, and I found it informative. One thing stuck out in my mind is when Eric Bischoff said that lack of competition isn't good for any company. Storylines start to suffer and the company as a whole starts to stagnate. Your company was, as stated earlier, at its best when going against Nitro. Brilliant television and interesting storylines where the talk of Tuesdays in my History class. My question is this: What happened? The character of Paul Heyman is to what ECW as the character of Vince McMahon is to RAW. DX re-forming...10 years after the fact. Ric Flair facing Mick Foley over books that were published years ago. Isn't there anything new and innovative that your company can put into the storylines to give them a much-needed boost of adrenaline? Even your gimmicked-characters have been done before. Forget comparing Umaga to TNA's Samoa Joe. I compare him more to Kamala. Likewise, with "King Booker." I mean...with all due respect to Jerry Lawler, whose had that moniker for years, aren't we passed the whole "kings" and "queens" thing in pro-wrestling? I thank you for your time in reading this, and I look forward to your reply should you choose to. - Dean
And let me add to my other coment, in your blog you say tag team wrestling is always bad, try watch a tna X division tag match, or a ROH tag match. then you say that.
Hey J.R. if u read any of these make it this. you got to no as well as everyone else TNa is much much better. compare your champion, cena, to samoa joe. i think we have a clear winner. cena is horrible, let he still wins the title because he sells t-shirts to children how havent reached puberty. vince sh*ts over everything that is good is right, look, ecw, used to be amazing, now full of crap. there is DQ's in most of there matches now for god sake. cm punk, used to have long brill matches, now stuck with 2mins matches. god he cant even do the pepsi plung. Paul london. he is pure amazing, but were is he in the wwe. vince is a plague to real wrestling. dam it i cant watch WWE for more than 10mins now without being bored out of my head. TNA is the new face of pro wrestling. oh and great kali, how's f*cking idea was that.
Hey JR, i am sure you are getting alot of these comments, but what about Chris Kanyon and all that he has said in the past week about you, and WWE? I also would like to thank you. I am starting to train to become a pro wrestler. I hope to maybe see you backstage one day... Also, can you shed some light on the Sooners chances to getting back to the BCS Title Game? lol. See Ya Later, Danny
JR's right, one man doesn't make a promotion... Good thing TNA has more than one star... On a lighter note what are your thoughts on X-Pac and the whole MTV wrestling show they plan on doing?
I'ma huge Kurt Angle fan and I was hoping he would atke some time off, maybe 2-3 years, and then come back to the WWE. I have heard he had some perosnal issues including an addiction of pain killers that he needed to seek help for. I just pray he doesn't end up like Pillman or Eddie Guerrero.
Is it me or am I not alone in thinking that the company re-hashing storylines is becoming stale, unfortuanetely I have not watched WWE in a long time, and again nor will I, until we see something new and exciting. Johnny Nitro vs Jeff Hardy was something new, then dropped like an instant WWE hired Hardy back, make something of him, don't let him become lost in that very same shuffle he was before, otherwise he will move on and get lost in his other passions again The last time I watched WWE was the DX segment before Unforgiven, I turned over within minutes, and even my friends said they'd seen it all before DX, nWo, Factions as a whole are great, but when something new comes along, i'll regain my interest The modern fan's perception of wrestling in my opinion is this: Why drink water when you can have wine. IE: Why watch WWE when the product of TNA is steadily becoming the most entertaining thing to watch. Vince needs to re-emphasise wrestling in World WRESTLING Entertainment. RAW is becoming Rarely Any Wrestling not Raw Is War, and Smackdown in the UK has been shunted to the dead spot on Sky Sports. It is mainly because TNA has been offering more hardcore matches, more cruiserweight style matches and more build up in their feuds Jarrett vs Sting has built over 8 months and is culminating in Title vs Career What has WWE offered? Nothing that interesting, Cena vs Edge, over, and over, and over (yawns) If you do happen to read this by a slim chance, point out some stuff to Vince McMahon, including making Cruiserweights an integral part of Smackdown once more and not having your best cruiserwights (Super Crazy etc) either as Tag champions (London/Kendrick) or on Raw........ Us fans want something new, not the regurgitated storylines of the past with new stars And plus, everyone needs to get off Kurt's back, he made the choice, he wasn't poached or forced. Get over it Chris United Kingdom
sorry JR I ment to say I live in lol .
Hi JR. My name's Katherine and In live of the best states of the US Missouri and I have a question. Well, In a few years I hope to be a lady wrestler. Do you think all the woman have to dress like most of the WWE divas? No disrespect to them but I'am more of a conservative gal.
CENA AND EDGE ARE DONE THERE NEEDS TO BE A NEW CHAMP NOBODY CHEERS THEM !!!!I HATE THEM I CANT STAND TO SEE THEM ON LIVE TV I MISS THE ROCK

JR, i'm in tv production and have been freelancing in nyc for 4 years. I would love to work for wwe, who can I contact at wwe to submit my resume? by the way your a great announcer and you are a huge key in making wwe huge and putting matches over, I kind of wish king would be more of a heel kind of like when you and Heyman were announcing for the invasion angle. That was great TV Play by Play! no won puts down heels like you do!
hello their j.r i am 16 years old nd honestly i think i know a lil bit more bout wrestling for my age and u r the greatest commentater eva it must b sed i have to questions for your number 1 is,where do u c the next big thing in the wwe comin from?? like the rock cena is good and all but the rock had the whole crowd lovin him nd some fans hate cena and number 2)if wwe had the chance to sign samoa joe or a.j styles would they and where do you see them fitting in me personally would love to see joe vs benoit that would be amazing please can u write about some of thease points soon, or write 2 me if u like
Dear J.R., first off I have to say I have been a fan of the biz since being in the garden when Bruno lost to Ivan in 71 (I was 4 and wondering why it was my mother was crying) I always wanted to be a manager a la Heenan but it seems those days are gone (I know I can work the stick but but never given the chance) Anywho, Sir I ask for only one thing..............find a way to bring back War Games even for only one PPV, I know you are a fan of that match i can see a Raw vs Smackdown vs ECW 5 vs 5 vs 5. Just a thought. J.R.C.
Hello Mr.Ross I had a couple questions for you... #1 Will the 'sauce ever be carried by a national retail chain? #2 I've been a fan a pro wrestling since I was three and tuned into Mid- Atlantic after saturday cartoons. I know this business is all about the almighty dollar , but I miss the drama build up and actual wrestling in the ring. Any hope that will change in the near future or are we gonna get stuck seeing 60 year old backslide flappin in the spotlights? ( please lord no ) #3 How on earth does someone get involved in creative or character development... or any aspect of the wrestling/sports entertainment world . I know you probably get this ALL the time but I REALLY care about this wacky sport and would love to contribute in some way. Anyways thanks for the sauce and plaese tell the boss to keep his britches on.... Please!!!
DEAR JIM ROSS, I THINK YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB ON RAW IT IS GREAT TO SEE YOU ALIVE AND WELL.AS I AM IRISH I DONT MAKE CONTACT WITH WRESTLERS AND I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF U COULD GET BACK TO ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, ALL THE BEST DANIEL.
Question, Why is Booker being used in such a horrific manner. I mean to be King and World champ is good for A Black Man. But the way you guys are having him morph into this idiot of a "king" is ridiculous. I'd love to see him come to Raw and invade Monday Night. I think more fans would take hime more seriously. He's too great a talent to made a bufoon. I also would like to say, being a wrestling fan of 25 years or so, only 30 y/o, I've seen better days in wrestling. I too remember the Road Warriors, Midnite Express and the like. Tag team wrestling is dead. The stuff you see now days doesn't even come close. To clarify, I mean the Road Warriors of AWA and old NWA, and both Midnite Expresses as well as the R&R Express. I mean how difficult can it be to find talented guys to immulate the days of old. If guys were put together like the teams I've just named, there's no way you can tell me there wouldn't be major money out there for them like singles money. I'm out, someone please explain where has tag team wrestling gone.
Hey JR, how you doing? I think that the WWE needs 2 make a very big change for the smackdown brand because it's garbage. Raw has always been the dominant brand and I just think that the management needs to do something to balance both brands out. I think that kane, umaga, ric flair, chris masters, and jeff hardy need to be brought to the smackdown brand because those guys haven't really been getting enough of a push. So, these guys could definitely improve the brand a whole lot. Take this under major consideration.
Hello JR, you are my favorite announcer. It sucked when Vince fired you he was a **** for doing that. These are some of my ideas for WWE storylines, fractions and stuff 1st thing is that raw needs to expand to 3 hours full time so that the heat superstars will not have to be jobbers. The time of that new raw should be (my time) 7-10. 2ed Thing is that the John Cena and Edge storyline is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO old please add a new superstar to that storyline like Cena vs Shelton Benjamin vs Edge vs Hulk Hogan at the next PPV and Hulk Hogan the WWE champ vs Jeff Hardy vs Kane for the WWE championship at the Royal Rumble and at WrestleMania Hulk Hoan vs Jim Duggan vs Ric Flair for the WWE chamion ship. 3rd Thing is make the Spirt Squad break up so the Kenny and Mikey go for the IC title, Johnny and Mitch go after the Tag Team Titles, and Nicky goses to SD to be a main C.W. contender and for Nicky Raw gets Sylvan. Raw then trades Chris Masters,Gene Snitsky, Eugene, Lance Cade, Rob Conway, Viscera, and Victoria for Funaki, Jake, Jesse, Joey Mercury, Psicosis, Scotty 2 Hotty, Matt Hardy, and Tatanka. 4th Thing is that you need to add a new member to DX i would either have DX (HHH,HBK,Joey Mercury, and Trevor Murdoch, or DX(HHH,HBK,X-Pac), or DX(HHH,HBK,X-Pac, and Ric Flair). 5th Thing is that The Hardy Boyz need to reform on Raw. 6th Thing is that the Tag Team Divison needs to be a hell of alot better 7th Thing is that the Main Women Divison Contender need to be Lita, Candice, Torrie, Jillian Hall, Mickie James, Beth Phoneix, Melina. 8th Thing is that the WWE needs have different Main Eventers like for Raw the Main Events need to be Jeff Hardy, John Cena, Edge, HHH, HBK, Umaga, and Shelton Benjamin. On SD they need to be Matt Hardy, Booker T, Bobby Lashley, Batista, Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker, The Kahil, and Mark Henry. 9th Thing is that these people need to go to ECW Vito, Paul Burchill, Psicosis, Tatanka Eugene
oh er Kanyons burning bridges, wouldnt it be better just to have left gracefully and do well on indy scenes and let fans decide that perhaps his firing was a mistake rather than shouting off and probably ruining any chance of a return impossible isnt vince mcmahon always giving wrestlers 2nd chances to prove themselves i.e ultimate warrior, charlie hass, test? probably best thing kanyon could have did was tried to impress for his next chance
J.R, i have a few questions... I've heard several rumors that World Wrestling Entertainment will become the World Wrestling Federation once again. is this true? also, what happened to past superstars like steve austin, and the rock? they are the people who made wrestling good and should be brought back.
Mr Ross...I tune into RAW every week. There is a new tag team on its way to RAW called Cryme Tyme. I live in Louisville Ky so I saw these guys in OVW as well as Booby Lashley, The Highlanders, and half of the Spirit Squad. I think that the need for more managers is what Raw needs. A Manager like Paul Ellering, JJ Dillion , Bobby Heenan or the Grand Wizard. Someone that can rally draw some heat. I think I could be the mouthpiece for Cryme Time. Im X military age 35 and took classes in Communication in College. How could a person like myself get into the manager role?...Thank you and continue to be the man on the mic. Chris Jelks
JR, Please please please try and do something to stop all these racial stereotypes in WWE. What is the point in having two black guys portray carjacking thugs? I know Cryme Time is being played for laughs but it is sending a negative image to the worlds youth, lets have more charcters like Teddy long ie black guys who have authority and decent morals so that youngsters of all races have a positive role model to aspire to. On the subject of stereotyping, i think the new Vito gimmick is fantastic, for too long transvestism has been seen as a gay issue and something to keep secret but here we have a hetrosexual tough guy in a dress! Wrestling reaches out to a lot of audiences in a lot of countries these days, the big companies need to take stock of their responsibilities and give the audience what they need NOT what the industry thinks they want
I think Kurt is a spoiled brat and thinks the grass is greener over in tna. He will soon learn the hold everyone back because Jeff Jarrett always seems to be champion. Kurt will see and come back as long as he does not hurt himself more. J.R. you are indeed the best. Vince is also the best I have watched WWE as long as I can remember and even watched all the classic stuff I could get my hands on Vince took and made ok people into stars and has always took care of those who took care of him it shows just look. Look at all the chances he gave people to come back and to help with their problems. I would like to see the Dudley's back I refuse to watch the junk they call TNA it annoys me. Kanyon just cause your poor and need money don't play the gay card its not cool be a man and do what all the rest did run indy and improve yourself and prove you are worth a contract I like you but you are not a main eventer yet and need some work. Don't take me personaly I just don't think you are better than some of the other guys who are now above you.
Hey Good ol Jr Jus wanted to leave a comment and say thanks for all the wrestling memories. I'm from South Africa and have been an avid wrestling fan as long as I can remember. I think it was about when Hulk hogan faced Sid at Wrestlemania 8 that I really started watching. Also wanna thank you that we get full wrestling shows now. It's only very recent because I could only catch the events on superstars. Raw in highlights isa not fun. Cool
J.R, I have been a fan of WWE since i was little but one of the thngs that really irritate me nowadays is how long these McMahon angles go on. I think its utterly insulting to other HARD WORKING wrestlers when Vince McMahon gets 20-40 miontues of air time on almost every Raw he is a apart of. I have seriously decided to boycott Raw alltogether and i feel bad that you have to call such arrogant self serving crap. McMahon is dillusional in thinking his heel heat is legit. People are sick of seeing him week in and week out trying to find areas to say "your fired" or "hell" in different tones. Hopefully we can return to when the WWE was far more interesting. I liked when Raw had the element of suprise. When they let heat and pop effect pushes and etc. Over aLL I HOPE AND PRAY McMahon gets his big head out of his ass and removes himnself from TV in awrestling role. Im embarassed to watch Raw when he is involved and i feel like ive wasted my time. I think everyone would agree that we are absolutely SICK with seeing a main event with McMahon...knock some sense into him...
I dont like the way people think TNA is better than WWE because they now have Kurt Angle!!! i have to admit WWE hasnt been the greatest at the moment but theres always a downfall in WWE at times but it always improves. Now dont get me wrong but i do belive TNA will be bigger than what they are now but WWE are just to far ahead at the moment to worry about competetion and its true TNA is about the wrestling which makes it good to watch and WWE does get boring due to too much talking. As for superstars people like shelton B is wasted he is one of the best wrestlers ive seen but because he hasnt got a good gimmick WWE dont know what to do with him, and the same with Orton WWE should make younger talent big now, before its too late instead of getting these 30-40 year olds title shots because when they give up, there will be no one. jaypee p.s please get rid of ECW theres not point to it
Hey JR, First let me say you are my favorite Announcer in the Wrestling World Today. I like this Blog you got up its cool. I was just watching the History of the WWE Championship DVD, I must say you did a good job hosting that DVD. I looked at the WWE Title History and one thing I can't understand is why isn't the guy with the longest WWE World Title reign in history not inducted into the Hall of Fame of course I'm talking about "The Living Legend" Bruno Sammartino do you think he will be inducted soon cause I don't think no one deserves it more really. Anyway take care JR and as Mick Foley would say "Have A Nice Day"
J.R., I have been a fan of wrestling since 1985 (I would say WrestleMania II and III). Wrestlemania II was on cable and I watched III on VHS tape, seeing Hulk Hogan slam Andre the Giant. From that day on, I was hooked on wrestling. I remember the old WCW days, when Ric Flair headlined the main event. Then, the Monday Night Wars featuring Eric Bischoff's Nitro (NWO) and the WWF/E's Monday Night RAW. The emergence of a small regional indy promotion in south Philly, run by former WCW manager/announcer Paul E. Dangerously (Paul Heyman) -- we now know as ECW. I remember watching ECW on Fox Sports Network, then onto TNN (The Nashville Network), which is now called Spike TV (the old home of the WWE and now NWA-TNA programming). I loved the competition between the WWF, WCW and ECW. Since Vince had bought WCW, it sucks. No competition for the WWE to grow and improve their product. Instead, they fire people who can actually wrestle (see Ivory, Molly Holly, Kurt Angle) and leave those who are just their for looks and can't wrestle their way out of a paper bag (see Chris Masters, Viscera, the Boogeyman). It's only competititon are TNA, ROH and CZW. Include the UFC, Pride Fighting and Icon Sport (Hawaii) for the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) sports fans -- Sean O'Haire (used to be on Smackdown, left the WWE to do some MMA work). I missed the small promotional interview shows (Carlito's Cabana, Brother Love, Piper's Pit, Flair for the Gold, Cutting Edge, Brutus Beefcake's Barber Shop). Those segments created some great memories/moments. Tag Team wrestling is gone from the WWE; the company doesn't care about Cruiserweights. The ECW show should be 2 hours long, so it can focus more time on other wrestlers than just the Big Show defending the ECW World title every week against some jobber. What about more Francine, the FBI, Roadkill and Danny Doring. I hardly see any other people -- only Balls Mahoney, RVD, Sabu, Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, Mike Knox and Kelly, Kevin Thorn and Ariel. Need to see more Extremists. Every match should be under Extreme Rules -- it wouldn't be the same as the old ECW in my book. (I'm old school. ECW should have been buried in 2001. The first reunion show was the best of the two, in my opinion. It has so many old ECW guys -- it felt good to see the fans react to the wrestlers and the entire show in general, Eric Bischoff (a torn in Paul Heyman's side) and JBL. I remeber seeing JBL punch the Blue Meanie in the face, which he later needed stitches for. Now, I miss the BWO since Stevie is in the new "ECW" and Simon Dean is currently doing behind the scenes work. Meanie is gone from WWE..) But it was fun to see Cena get his butt smoked by RVD and boo'ed by the fans in the second ECW reunion show.) The new vision of ECW, according to Vinnie Mac, sucks. Mr. McMahon should give away the program direction, writing duties and creative content 100% back to Paul Heyman, because it was "his baby." TNA should fuel the WWE to better their product by having longer matches (every match should be main even length (15-30 min. at the longest), more tag teams, cruiserweights that can use their real finishing move (no limits) and not using an alternate finisher. The fans can no longer see shooting star presses and piledrivers (see Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Sabu). That sucks man. The new Brian Pillman DVD looks great. Esp. the infamous "Gun Incident" involving "Stone Cold," the "Loose Cannon" himself and his wife. I can't believe that the WWE had the cajones to show that on TV. I thought that stuff was REAL !!! Brian "F'n" Pillman, Eddie Guerrero, "Ravishing" Rick Rude, Elizabeth, the Public Enemy, Hawk, Curt Hennig, R.I.P.
Once again as you sit on your high horse you manage to take cheap shots at TNA,well played. I mean does it make you feel better to create such a basic cheap shot as infering they are not making profit.Your words are similar to what the WWE lacks, creativity.Theres no under tone to what I am saying.I was once a fan but now I am merely a spectator.
I WAS WONDERING IF YOU THINK DX WILL EVENTUALLY GET MORE MEMBERS BECAUSE IT SEEMS A LITTLE EMPTY WITH JUST SHAWN AND HHH I THINK SHELTON BENJAMIN WOUULD BE GREAT FOR DX OR EVEN JOHN CENA
Having grown up in Miami Beach during the CWF/NWA era as a kid who's father once was part of the film crew (boy do I have film cans filled of matches),I must say that Mr. Ross, next to Gordon Solie, you are the best! Mr. Ross, are there any plans of having Big Dust come out from behind the desk to play some sort of role for either WWE brand? Call me nostalgic, but seeing how Flair can still tangle with the best of them, I'd love to see and I am sure others as well,a final showdown between the Dream and Flair! I hardly get to watch wrestling much these days, but I have been following SD a bit lately since the WWE brought up my good friend MVP from Deep South, and I must admit I am excited on the decisions being taken by the WWE as of late when it comes to SD pushing new young talent. The one bone I have to pick with the WWE,is Alejandro Estrada, there is "NOTHING" Cuban about the man! Need pointers on "Cubanism"? Don't hesitate to mail me...lol Good luck to your Sooners as I know my Canes need a helluva lot more then luck! God Bless
