Stone Cold Steve Austin….My Friend.

It was great to see my friend Stone Cold Steve Austin Sunday in Los Angeles prior to the taping of Monday Night RAW.

Steve looks to be in as good a physical shape as he has been in years and it is easy to tell the “Texas Rattlesnake” is still working out regularly and takes his diet and physical fitness seriously.

Steve has bought a home in Southern California to be based there while he tries his hand at breaking into the film business. Steve spent approximately 4 months of the year down under in Australia filming “The Condemned” for WWE Films, an action adventure film with a very intriguing plot that will be out in 2007.

It had been so long since Steve had been able to spend any significant time back stage at a WWE event, I assume Wretlemania was the last, that he mentioned to me that there were so many new faces he did not know it felt a little surreal. Of course, many of the veteran WWE Superstars were familiar faces that had the opportunity to visit with Austin and renew old times and talk of rivalries of days gone by.

I hope the younger wrestlers took the time Sunday to pick the brain of one of the most intelligent and analytical Superstars in history.

There is no doubt in my mind, and I feel like I know Steve better than anyone in the business, that Austin would love to wrestle again if his neck issues were not as they are. Steve loves that adrenaline rush an athlete gets when performing before a live and loud audience. Being in great physical shape is not an issue as Steve is as good a shape as many active competitors. Plus, Stone Cold has huge respect for the wrestling fans worldwide.

The one thing that made Stone Cold arguably the greatest box office sensation in wrestling history is the fact that he was harder on himself than anyone and demanded perfection from himself, first, and everyone else involved in the equation, second. I have called more Austin matches than anyone alive and I have seen Steve in some amazing scenarios that I thought were blow away awesome. Then upon talking to Steve after the match one would find out that the Edna, Texas native would be thinking that there were two or three little things he could have done better in the match. OU Head Football Coach Bob Stoops is that way as well. Even when the Sooners win a big game the Coach will eventually mention things that his team could have done better and that they need to work on. That’s Stone Cold to a “T”. Neither man ever makes excuses.

Great individuals and highly successful people are rarely satisfied with their performances or the results they achieve. Things can always be better and performances can always be improved upon. I truly believe if you asked Stone Cold if he ever wrestled, in his opinion, a perfect match, he would say “no”, without a doubt. (Probably, “Hell No” more than likely.)

Steve was a big proponent of watching old tapes to see how the masters of other generations honed their skills and perfected their craft. I wonder how many young wrestlers of today take the time to watch these same classic video tapes to learn valuable nuances that are necessary to be the best they can be. I know that Ric Flair was another wrestler who watched a great deal of tapes as does to this day HHH who is a genuine student of the game hence my nickname for him of the “Cerebral Assassin”.

I think that some younger wrestlers could learn from the greats of the game by watching videos of stars from other generations rather than spend valuable time figuring out how they can break more tables or better utilize inanimate objects.

I may be wrong but my instincts tell me that not enough of the younger generation of wrestlers watch these treasure chests of video tapes that are available to them by simply requesting them or as easily as watching WWE 24/7 which is awesome TV.

I get the question all the time will Stone Cold ever wrestle Hulk Hogan and my answer is always the same. No. Steve is the type of wrestler than before he would step in the ring with anyone Steve would want to go back out on the road for 3-4 months and get his timing back down, his cardio at its highest level, and be fully prepared to give his fans more than their monies worth. With Steve’s new career there simply isn’t enough time or days in the week to pull this off. As I said my friend Stone Cold is a perfectionist and making sure the fans don’t see “Stone Cold Lite” is important to him.

Now does this mean we have seen the last of Stone Cold Steve Austin? Oh, Hell No! I would be shocked if Steve were not a prominent part of WWE TV programming when “The Condemned” begins its advance promotion. I don’t even know how one could have a Wrestlemania without a little “Rattlesnake flavor” added to the festivities either, in my opinion.

Another question could be asked is 2007 the year that Steve Austin goes into the Hall of Fame? That’s certainly not my call but as a fan of the product one can’t make a valid argument that Austin doesn’t belong there but it is only a matter of when. Perhaps by waiting that “small window of opportunity” that Steve might consider stepping back into the ring one last time might open a little wider. As I said, my opinion is that it will not happen but you know what some say about opinions…everybody has one and we have learned to never say never in this business.

Nonetheless, it was great seeing a happy and healthy Stone Cold on Sunday and my wife and I look forward to his next visit to our home in Oklahoma where he is a valued member of our family. I might even go on that long awaited deer hunt with Steve this fall as every deer camp needs a good cook or someone who at least thinks he is a good cook.

Here is a little known, useless trivia fact. The black hat I wear every week on TV is one of two gifted to me by Steve himself. I have had numerous offers to sell them but they are not for sale at any price…just like our friendship. I fully expect to be buried, hopefully many years from now, with one of those black hats with me.

The wrestling business is tough on relationships. One can generally count their true friends, even after 3 or more decades in the biz, on one hand. I am very blessed that Stone Cold and yours truly have remained friends through all our challenging times together during our unique journey in the wrestling business.

When I was thought to have had colon cancer approximately one year ago at this time, Steve was the first to call and the first to volunteer to fly from California to Oklahoma to help out.

Lesson learned here is that true friends don’t come along every day. If you have a long time friend you have not reached out to lately, then perhaps today would be a good day to simply say hello and thanks.

Hey JR Thanks for the best commentary in history. I have to be honest I envy that u r Steve's best friend. I would love to have a beer with u guys and talk about old matches and good old days. I havnt given up on that dream yet but lets be honest it likely as not wont happen. Please tell Steve his movie the "Condemned" was as great if not better than I expected. We "the fans" look foreward to more great stuff from Steve in his acting career. If this makes any difference Im the guy that requested a autographed picture of Steve from his parents and they responded. I sent them a gift basket from Savanah,GA to express my appreciation. I hope they liked it. Please tell Steve thanks for the great matches and especially for ALWAYS acknowledgeing his fans. It means SO much to us. There has never been another super star that took the time to express appreciation for their fan base. Thanks for all the good times and memories. A STONE COLD fan forever Johhny.

Hi, JR! I had the opportunity to meet Steve a few years back-what a neat man to talk with(and FUNNY!). I'm looking forward to the day when The Rattlesnake gets his little corner in the Hall of Fame. Take care!
hey jr. man i think ur the best announcer in the world and i luv Stone Cold, he rocks tell him 2 give me a shout out bye
I think that you have the biggest prick for a sidekick in Television history- Jerry "The King" Lawler. I met him quite a number of years ago at a softball tournament that his team was playing in Batesville, MS. I recognized him from watching wrestling on Saturdays between 11:00-12:30PM on WMC-TV 5 out of Memphis, TN. I was actually a fan until I saw the real Jerry Lawler. While at the softball game, I walked up to him and said hello, not wanting an autograph or nothing, he basically berated me in front of a number of people. I was a bald headed guy and had lost my hair due to Alopecia Areata-scientific name for falling out of hair. Till this day, I can not stand the SOB. When he steps in the ring with anyone I automatically know that he is going to get his ass beat, and I can say with all honesty that he needs it. Jim Ross, I have seen you around the wrestling arena for years and I believe that you were announcing years ago when J.Y.D., and few others were wrestling. Jim, I can honestly say even though I have never met you, that you are one stand up guy. Thanks for making every television appearance that you make a memorable one.
hi JR. I am so glad to hear that you still talk with steve and that he's doing good. I can't waite to see his new movie. I still watch monday night raw at times but I can't help looking at all the new talent and saying man I wish steve was also there to help them get better. not that I am saying they are bad, but the fact that steve can help them to grow even more. I have also wanted to meet steve, but never had the chance. It would be so nice to see steve for a bref moment just to say hi. I have no worries though. If it happens then that would be so cool and if it does not then thats cool to. As I have all good memories of steve in the ring. well I should go now and you take care of yourself. Bye for now your and steve's biggest fan.
I'm glad to hear Steve is doin' so good, i haven't watched wwe since he left, but my daughter keeps me posted,we're both huge, huge fans of SCSA!! It's not the same without him!! Please let him know we support him in every way possible !!

Its a pity the Austin V hogan isnt going to happen.....I was planning on coming over to see my hero pin hogan in Wrestlemania XXIII......It was so much a dream for me ......hopfully I will still be able to watch austin's new movie and maybe someday be able to meet him..... I hope the two of u continue to remain friends forever..... If you think Austin 3:16 is the Number 1 Super Wrestler and Entertainer of all times...Give me a Hell Yeah !!! HELL YEAH!!!!!!
Hi Jr, Great to hear that the ole Rattlesnake is doing well. I have been a wrestling fan for as long as I can remember. Some of my fondest memories involve wrestling. From my first wrestling show with my dad, it was World Class Championship Wrestling, at the Sportatorium in Dallas. More recently it's been attending Raws and Smackdowns at Reunion Arena and now the American Airlines Center with various friends and family. I always liked Steve Austin from his days in Dallas and then when he was "Stunning" in WCW to his days as the "Ringmaster." I am excited at the prospect of having him on Raw to promote his movie. As was mentioned before, I too always foolishly hope that when a heel is talking s**t that the glass will break and the aforementioned heel will get "dropped on their chin". It's good to hear that you are both doing well. Speaking of the Sportatorium did you ever get to spend any time there? It was home to alot of superstars when they were first developing their skills. One of the funniest things I saw at a wwe event was at a house show in Dallas at the Reunion Arena. Kane was having a match when Paul Bearer was still his manager. The entire match while Kane is wrestling, Paul is playing to the crowd as he had a tendency to do. For the whole 10 minutes or so that Kane and Paul were out there the entire crowd is chanting "PERCY, PERCY, PERCY" refering to his old World Class Championship Wrestling persona Percy Pringle III. I still laugh about that to this day. What are your thoughts on the old World Class and the Sportatorium?
hi jr this is debra from columbus,ga. would you please thank stone cold steve austin for sending hunter the autograph picture of him for christmas in 2004. he still calls me and talks about that picture. i wrote stone cold steve austin to see if he would send 3 autograph what shirts for hunter and my son-in-law which is going back to iraq in 2007 and a friend of mine. and a personal shirt of his that he has worn for me being we never had the pleasur of meeting stone cold steve austin and never will. and we all would all love to have your autograph also. thanks alot debra.
'Stone Cold' Steve Austin vs. Goldberg vs. Tazz has officially been booked for WrestleMania.
great news about the bionic redneck hope to see him opening a few cans of whoop-ass on raw sometime soon. What do you of the chances of the wwe signing sting.Would have good matches and a great dvd would follow(more money for vinny mac).
Hello J.R, I´m a big wrestling fan, special the World Wrestling Federation. That was great matches in that time, the Dudleys, Edge and Christian, Hardyz, Alliance, Acolytes... J.R, what was the last program with the WWF logo? I think the first was Rebellion in 2002. I like very much the WWF, and WWE, but in my ideia WWF is better. Dr. Isaac, Diesel, Kane. I don´t across the line , but they are the same person? Hollywood Hulk Hogan and "Freestyle" Undertaker, that was great if we see again that two persons again! And J.R Edge has lost a T.L.C Match in 2001, and was for WWF Tag Team Title. I see a funny moment when in Judgment Day 2002, King said WWF! That was funny because you can´t say World Wrestling Federation, if that was in the past you gonna be very suprised. Anybody remembers the past of Edge? I Still going crazy when I heard Rob Zombie " Never Gonna Stop" and that ovation for Edge, not Rated R Superstar. why Edge remove his old tatoo? And anyboydy remembers the past of John Cena, that boy no-rapper or Deacon Batista, and Reverend D-Von, Rikishi, Hurricane, Jamal(he is on the WWE). Stone Cold is awesome, very cool, I saw the biography in Biography Channel. Do you remember Mabel? I Can´t say his name now, but do you remember? The Best Matches are in WWE.com, i loved to see Hogan and Edge vs. Billy and Chuck! J.R tell me more about the WWF/WWE, my email is tiagol619@hotmail.com.br, I´m portuguese and i´m 12 years old! You are the best J.R!
I'm glad to see that you and Steve have remained such great friends. Its always good to hear when good friends go out of their way to help eachother out. These days, truely good friends are a dime a dozen. Good for you JR.
Just by the amount of replys to this shows just how popular Stone Cold Steve Austin is. When i go to live events now and watch people like cena i just say to myself, your not the same, and that is the only reason i boo cena to be honest, the last event i was at was raw a couple of months back and nearly the whole arena was booing him and when i came back and watched raw again on tv you and the king said 'Love him or hate him' as yous had to relise the boos too, and i think everyone is booing him for the same reason, HE'S NO REPLACEMENT FOR STONE COLD!!! Once steve became popular, did you ever hear people boo him? Even when he turned heel again in 2001/2 people still refused to boo him, but when you see cena now its a coin toss if he will get booed or not. As for Austin vs Hogan, i would love to see that but dont think it will happen. I was a Hulkamaniac back in the day until he left and then didnt jump on anyones band wagon until steve austin arrived. The thing about this match is that i think hogan is getting ****y if it was to happen, i believe he thinks that he will get the crowd responce against Austin that he got against the Rock, but Hell No i cant see that happening. Whether hogan likes it or not, as in the words of vicent k mcmahon, Stone Cold is the biggest star in the history of Wrestling and that includes Hulk Hogan.
hi j.r i really enjoyed ur blog on stone cold steve austin. the first time i watched wrestling was when austin and tyson was in the ring and from that moment on i am and always will be a huge stone cold steve austin fan. I have to agree with the other people when they say there is nobody like him because there isnt. The man is a legend, an icon. Cant wait to hear the glass shatter, that feeling is spine tingling. i was at wembley arena when he faced big show the ovation was huge never forget that. you j.r and austin both of you take care. please austin come back. we all miss you. p.s wanna see austin stun cena lol.
It was great reading your blog about Stone Cold!I've been a fan of his since his USWA days...and I agree..There will never be another Stone Cold Steve Austin!I miss seeing him every Monday night..but i'm certain his film career will be a huge success..because Steve Austin never does anything half way.I've not tuned in to Raw since Steve hasnt been on it..but when he comes back to promote his movie and hopefully appear at Wrestlemania..i'm definately going to start watching it again! He is the greatest!!
Stone Cold Steve Austin is the Best there was ... the best there is and the best there ever will be when it comes to the best wrestler that the WWE ever had...I had the privilege of meeting him twice in New York City and besides being a true gentleman he is the toughest SOB in this world... I have molded myself to be like him in many ways and have become a better person who believes I can do anything that I put my mind to. Long Live Stone Cold Steve Austin (The Greatest WWE Champion Ever...!!!)
Steve Austin v. Randy Orton. Legend Killer or Legend Killed?
I am happy that stonecold and JR are Still Friends that is very cool. I was wondering is the wwe going to make StoneCold Steve Austin Anthology dvd for Him it will be the dvd of all time
y is the wwe doin a vote which belt is on the line at cyber sunday the 3 belts ain't nearly as meaning ful as they wre 3 years ago i mean wwe championship being lost 2 an ecw event and a wrestler who hasn't improved his in ring ability in nearly 5 years, the ecw belt being created out of thing air and put on the big show who i must admit has done a good job but he wasn't the first choice and every 1 knows that also the world heavyweight belt has lost credability because smackdown is seen as the b- brand and not treaty as an equal to raw the past couple of years it is a very bad idea and the person who loses should definatly regain their belt very very soon j.r give me your thoughts on this you are in the wrestling business of course and i am just a fan thanks from greg in the UK
I think stone cold is the true "the best there is, there was , there ever will be", because he was the franschise of the wwe for more than 5-6 years, and NO ONE can do that for that long time with the crowd in his favor. All of my respects to the legend of stone cold steve austin, i hope he will be back on a wwe program, and why not, wrestling again.
Great to hear stone cold is doing well.Steve was my favorite wrestler from the first time i saw him beat bobby eaton for the tv title. For my money stone cold is more responsible for the attitude era wrestling boom than dx or the rock combined. No disrespect intended to anybody else but the main reason i or anybody i spoke to tuned in to raw was to see stone cold entertain as only he can.hope you are well JR love the site. P.S Love the idea of a four horsemen dvd set hopefully with a disk dedicated to my second favorite wrestler Double A.
Hey JR Thanks for that. A tale (like yours) of friendship is one I'm happy to say I am familiar with and I agree, everyone should reach out to their loved ones more often. I personally was in Safeco Field on the night that Steve Austin wrestled his last match. It was a blistering and emotional effort and one that I will NEVER forget. As a huge fan of Steve's, I of course yearn for the day when Stone Cold's music hits and he makes his return to the ring. However as is often and recently overlooked, wrestlers should consider living a happy and healthy life after their careers. I'm very glad to hear that Steve seems to be doing just that. Hogan V Austin? Yeah it would be huge but I doubt it would top Austin V Rock 3 Please pass on my warm regards to the Rattlesnake! Boomer Sooner Gerry Scotland UK
Stone Cold Steve Austin was the best. Awesome Man. He can get a crowd fired up, and thats for sure. Please tell him we miss seeing him, but thanks so much for the memories. Take care, both you JR, and Stone Cold.
Everytime there's a "mystery" floated on Raw, I hope it's the Rattlesnake about to come out. Everytime there's an injustice happening and a face needs to show up and fix things, I hope for the Rattlesnake. Everytime a heal runs his mouth, I'm there waiting for the Rattlesnake to come out and shut them up. There was, and is no one else like him. If there ever is to be a Hogan v Austin match, I just hope he doesn't have to do the job.
thanks for the blog about stone cold cause i like hearing about how he is doing. i can't for his movie to come out next year so i can go see it. i'm sure it's going to be good cause all the movies that the wwe put out are good. i also think that there doesn't need to be a story build up for an austin vs hogan match cause you can announce that match a week before wrestlemania and the fans will go crazy about it and i'm sure austin and hogan will put up the best show possible and i would love it. keep up the good work j.r. and i'll talk to you later! peace!
JR, it's great to know that you and Steve got to hang out and spend some quality time together. You have no idea (well, you probably do) how much I miss him. I fell out of wrestling in the mid-90s because I had other things going on, and I wasn't interested in the product. Then I saw Stone Cold Steve Austin. In my opinion, there is no one as great as Steve. I got to meet him at a RAW taping a few years ago, and he was so gracious. Steve talked to me, signed my AWESOME poster I made for him, and took pictures with me. He understands that without the fans (and obviously, his very HARD work), he wouldn't be the superstar that he is. A lot of the young guys should take a nod from him. Quite frankly, a lot of them haven't a clue how to interact with the fans. Ask anyone that was at the ECW show in Hattiesburg, MS lately. Not to be disrespectful, but most of them are nobody compared to Steve in the wrestling business, and they were too busy texting or whatever crap they were doing on their cell phones to come talk to us. I'm glad Steve probably won't wrestle Hogan. I know it would be tarnished by the whole politicking process of who goes over. Even though it's very possible to get both guys over in one match, which Austin is one of the best at, I have a hard time believing Hogan would see it that way unless he got his hand raised. And let's face it, we both know Austin deserves to pin Hogan! That one will be left to be debated as long as there are wrestling fans, kind of like, "What would happen if Sandy Koufax faced Barry Bonds?" It's a fun argument. JR, thanks for being on RAW, I hope you stay for a while. Please tell Steve that I love him, and I hope to see him on my television again very soon. Oh, and I love you too, JR! Take care. ~Brian Biloxi, MS
Even though JR believes that Steve wouldn't agree to a 'wrestling' match with Hulk Hogan because of the time required to shake off ring rust and get his timing down, how might Steve react to a gimmick match which requires less preparation and ring technique (street fight, cage match, etc.) if proposed?
J.R.- Your warm and sincere assessment of Stone Cold reminded me of my brief encounter with him a few years ago. I was in line to do a satellite interview with Steve for my tv show before a WWE PPV event. This was one of those deals where Steve had to sit in a studio or wherever for hours, while they hooked up various interviewers from stations for 7 minute interviews , one after another. this can be a real pain for the talent being interviewed. I was scheduled about 2 hours in, and , as I was on hold, heard the previous interview- a clueless news anchor asking about finishing holds.no doubt Steve had been induring a lot of these, plus smirking "journalists" who thought interviewing a "mere wrestler" was funny. When I got my turn, I complemented Steve on a recent match with the Rock (boy, this was a while ago!)After I asked a few questions, and I think Steve picked up that I was a genuine fan,he was just great, so cooperative, very polite, and seemed to appreciate that I knew about him, what he did, and had genuine respect for him. He even wound up the interview doiung a special "congratulations" message for my horror-show host alter ego.His sincerity ,honesty, and professionalism made me an even bigger fan. I always wanted to thank him for the great interview, but figured a letter via the company might just get lost in all the fan mail! Let me add that I'm a big fan of one J.R. as well- talk about professionalism. If you ever get to Chicago and have time, I'd love to do an interview with you (long as you promise to bring some bbq sauce!)
It is a rare coincidence that two of JR's favorite people are both named "Steve Williams" (AKA, Dr. Death and Stone Cold). Not long ago, we got an update from the Doctor, and now it's good to hear the Texas Rattlesnake is doing well. Keep the reports coming! I truly enjoy reading them.
I recall the roster of the 90's and the infamous KOTR promo cut by Mr. Austin, there was no doubt the toughest S.O.B. in the business set the trend didn't he. Then again JR you did as well along with the likes of Gordon Solie in Georgia. Thank You for many entertaining Monday Nights (Thursdays in the UK.) May you all set many more memorable nights
I would just like to say that I consider Stone Cold Steve Austin to be one of the best WWE champions of all time,I too would love to see Austin in one more match but if he doesn't then, from one big Stone Cold fan here in the UK,Steve thanks for all the great matches that you had. P.S. JR,I recieved the History of the WWE Championship DVD that I sent off for, today in the post,it's brilliant especially with you hosting the DVD. CHEERS
Over the years, one constant in my life has been wrestling. I Have watched it pretty much my whole life of 25yrs, obviously with a break here and there, but watching "Stone Cold" was always the highlight of my Monday nights. From his beginning as the "Ring Master" he definatley showed his in ring talent, back before wrestling became about how many times a guy can take a chair to the head.(However that does have its place.) A prominent memory of mine which remains etched was the dissapointment, yet strange feeling of joy I felt when Austin beat Jake Roberts for the KOR title.(Ahh, the birht of 3:16) I have one question... though the two of you are great friends, how troubling have the skits been for you to perform where he beat you in the ring??? Some of those looked pretty painful.. I am sure I would have had a difficult time.
There isnt a man alive that can light up a crowd like Steve Austin. You can still here the "what" phrase every week from the audience...and most cant even remember that Stone Cold created that chant. He is a Legend and I would hope he is a guarantee to be in the Hall of Fame.
Nice read JR, though I feel I should take you to task for some double talk. Watching a one hour special that the WWE had on DishTV on Hulk Hogan, you stated among the roundtable that Hogan was the biggest box office draw, bar none, though you have said numerous time before (as well as above) that Austin is the biggest draw. Were you saying that at the time to be politically correct or what? I ask this because I take a great deal of what you say with some credibility and I would hate to think that you would flip-flop on something significant like that, just because you are dealing with those two at seperate time. So once and for all, who is the bigger draw, Hogan or Austin?
I got this link through www.wrestling-news.com and FraziorandMalofromdabronx says Steve Austin is as washed up as the minority report on www.wrestling-news.com. Let me write a story about this hotline/webcast/website....They have a weekly report that we been following for years and being we have a smashing/hitting personality they have joked at us and ignored us for because of our explosiveness and uniqueness. The true story in wrestling is the behind the scenes story of this comical connection between us and the ignorant newsreporter known as Anthony Defunker and the minority report (oh by the way much respect Anthony.) Why type this because ....it is as simple as why not ...
Greetings J.R. I love "The Texas Rattlesnake" and IMO Stone Cold, along with The Rock, were the "heart & soul" of old 'Attitude Era'. Personally I would love to see Austin vs. Hogan at WrestleMania but because of politics and injuries, I know its pretty much a "tough sell" at this point. But J.R. if we can't get that match, who do you see or who would you like to see Austin going up against if he should decide to comeback for that final match.
Hey good ol' Jr, i would like to say its great to hear about Steve as he hasnt been in the spot light in years. I hope he makes a HUGE comeback at Wrestlemania. The last time i saw him was at WrestlemaniaX8, he got a huge ovation by the great toronto fans. now i just want to thank you for all the great times you brought to WWE television.! WWE WWE WWE WWE WWE!
I'm a great fan of the Texas Rattlesnake, like most of all WWE fan, and I'm glad he has a movie to promote...If he will appear the half of the Cena promotions to the Marine, I only can be excited in a huge way! You're great J.R., and your words on this blog prove that! Keep doing it!
JR, thanks for the update. I would still like to see a Steve Austin web site. I love watching his old matches because they seem so genuine compared to some of the stuff we see today. I wish I lived on the east coast sometimes so I could watch more wrestling on tv. We don't get much here on cable in San Antonio. Take care and GOD BLESS and tell Steve hello from San Antonio.
Thanks JR for the update, for someone to be such a household name in the industry, they really need to connect to the fans. I think nobody did that better than Steve. Thanks and take care, SB
hey JR I had a quick question. I have been a wrestling fan my whole life and am now finally becoming one. I watch tapes every day trying to pick up new spots or new moves i can use. I love the wrestling business more then anything else and I plan on being in the wwe someday. My question is I was rewatching some dvds i had, and i was watching the stone cold truth and on it stone cold has some promos about hulk hogan. it didnt really seem like austin liked hogan that much so if austin was able to get back in the ring and face hogan, would he even want to?
It seems to be the same story with steven then it is with his aspirations to get back into the ring. For storyline purposes Steve will most likely get plugged like Kane and most likely skip the chance to kick Hogan;s ass. True wrestling fans know that WWE is protective of their superstars and stone luke warm is obviously going to rake in the dough so why even waste our time with possibilities. Ever since Brock and Goldberg were in WWE did the tough Stone luke warm challenge them nope ! So all the praise for stoney is not needed. He is the ultimate sellout...
I hope Stone Cold comes back. It's a shame, ever since Rock and Austin left there has been nobody, and I mean NOBODY that could take their place. One would argue Cena is the man, but honestly, and saying this as a Cena fan, it's clear the guy has one of the most inconsistent fan bases of ANY main evente I've seen. One week they cheer, the next they'll boo. Sorry, but Cena will never, EVER be accepted by 100% of the fans. (Kinda reminds me of the old babyface "Rocky", maybe a gimmick change or at least a turn is in order?) Anyway, I guess maybe Lesnar had the potential, but look what happened to him. 'Taker is obviously the most over superstar on the roster, but we all know he has a lighter schedule and I doubt he even wants to be the "focus" each week. The only guy I could think of that's even close is HBK, but unfortunately it seems as if he's taking backseat to HHH. I'm a big HHH fan, even more so than HBK, but the roles should really be reversed as it's obvious HBK is by far the most popular of the two... I really hope Austin comes back, I know his neck isn't in the best of shape but honestly, the most popular (arguably, but not really to me...) wrestler of all-time can't have had his last ever match be a LOSS. Especially to The Rock, I mean it's not as if he "put over" anyone that needed it. (What, with The Rock not even being here, and not even needing it.) It's a shame, but I really hope he comes back. He's not even my favorite wrestler, I just know what wrestling needs and it needs another icon.
Lasting friendships are priceless! I really miss watching - and hearing Jim Ross calling - Steve Austin work in the ring. Best Wishes to Steve and his future in “Hollywood.” What would be really AWSOME is to have Jim Ross and Steve Austin call a PPV together! BE SAFE J.R.
Hello JR: "Stone Cold" is and has been my favorite wrestler because he was genuine. We, as fans, were the fire in his gut that made him want to do more each and every performance. Thanks Steve for the memories!!!!! ROBERT LINDLER
