Sooners Travel to Hostile Territory

I will be leaving soon for the OKC Airport to catch a Southwest Airlines flight to St. Louis and then drive over to the University of Missouri to attend my first ever game in Columbia, Missouri. The Sooners-Tigers game can be seen on ABC TV Saturday morning at 11 central time and you may notice a guy in a black hat on the OU sideline. That would be yours truly. This is a huge game for both teams. OU wants to run the table and win 10 this season while Mizzou has only one loss posting a 7-1 season so far. The sooners are any where from a 2-3 point underdog on the road this weekend. OU can run on Mizzou and if the run works so does play action passes. The young but talented Offensive line must have a great game and not self destruct with senseless non contact penalties. I look for the sooners play calling to keep the Tigers off balance. Long drives kill the clock and will take the crowd out of this game which is imperative. Mizzou fully expects to win against one of the nations top programs and with some of their top recruits on hands this is a huge game for all involved. Chase Daniel is a great young QB who the Sooners must tackle aggressively and with their pads not their arms to make this deal work. As Daniel goes so does Missouri. Coach Stoops has been spending a great deal of time with the Sooner defense which is a good thing from my perspective. This one won’t be easy but I see OU winning a true Slobber-Knocker by a field goal in a high scoring game. OSU needs a win and they need it Saturday against Nebraska. Will the Cornhuskers have a little hangover from their last minute loss to Texas in Lincoln last Saturday? Perhaps. The Cowboys have to play with more of a sense of defensive urgency and something tells me that an upset could happen in Stillwater. Don’t be surprised if Mike Gundy’s Cowboys win a thriller at T. Boone “I have more money than you” Pickens Stadium. Dallas Cowboy fans don’t look for your team to win in Carolina no matter if Troy Aikman or Roger Staubach were at the helm. The Cowboys offensive line is horrid and until they start playing better this team is in deep trouble in what will likely be Bill Parcells last go round in Big D. Would Tommie Harris and Dusty Dvoracek make a great pro wrestling tag team? Never say never as the two Chicago Bears have made that comment to me on more than one occasion. Of course, the NFL comes first but what then? Stay tuned. J.R.

Hi JR! Ben from 2SSRFM in Sydney, Australia here. Who should I contact to conduct a radio interview with you to talk about the BBQ Products and a bit of wrestling talk? Can I go through you or do I have to go through WWE? Let me know! Ben
Hey JR. You have mentioned your opinions on non-WWE talent such as AJ Styles and Samoa Joe (awesome that oyu said positive things about them). But here is one for you.......what do you think of Christopher Daniels as a wrestler/performer? And Abyss? Keep up with those blogs dude.
it's gonna be tough without the a-train there for you JR. Good luck though.
Hi J.R. A question about college football, if you have the time. I played for my university over here in the UK as a DT (Although by US size standards, I'd be better suited to the US College scene as a linebacker) and managed to get some decent stats (Including breaking the league sacks per season record). How would I go about trying to gain a place at an NCAA college playing ball? Thanks J.R.
J.R thank you for allowing me to ramble...i agree 110% what jason said. THE ONLINE FANS OF WRESTLING THINK THE NEW ECW IS A WASTE OF TIME! the ppvs did so well, the dvds did so well, because of the OLD SCHOOL QUALITY! all the negative feedback from one night stand was that wwe was involved way to much! the tv show has ended up like that!!!! it has dropped in ratings because of the horrible quality!!! please please for the faith of wwe/ecw send this to whoever! the fans want extreme the fans want what they want not whoever in the backstage thinks is best for them! wwe has frustrated me so many times because it seems all they care is what they want, not what the fans want. put a poll on wwe.com/ecw.com... DO YOU LIKE THE NEW ECW? i bet you will be shocked from how many hate this product. 3 minute matches are a waste. CM PUNK can carry on a match better than cena who by the way EVERYONE HATES! i respect him, but please allow talent like punk have that push. he has a better gimmick and wrestle much better...two differnt people with differnt talents but the fact is he is better. THANKS JR. please email me back!
Hi JR. The main point of my email is reguarding WWE shows in the UK. When a RAW show or Smackdown taped/broadcast from the UK it always seems to be in arenas such as London/Manchester or somewhere else in England. Here in Wales, one of the other 3 countries which make up the UK, we have only ever seen one or two house shows. That is rather disappointing. Considering the Welsh capitol city, Cardiff, is home to the Millenium Stadium. This is an 80,000 seater stadium which even has a roof which can be opened or closed! So whatever the weather a WWE event could be held here. This is certainly the greatest venue in the UK and would also serve as the best bet for a PPV should the WWE ever decide to hold one here again. WWE events also sell out extremely quickly in the UK and with the Millenium Stadium's 80,000 seat capacity, plus any floor space you should use, this would be the best bet for hosting WWE events within the UK rather than the locations you currently use when you do visit us. The Stadium's Official Website for reference is http://www.millenniumstadium.com/197_211.php I hope to see you guys shortly when I go to my first WWE show in November (first time I have been able to buy tickets before they sell-out). Sorry to advertise this stadium so much, but I would like to see you a bit more locally for a change, rather than having to drive 1000 miles or so IF I can get hold of a ticket.
JR, First I am one of your biggest fans, RAW simply would not be RAW with out the man in The black hat, oh and that clown the King, but I must say you were dead wrong about MY football team the Cowboys....they took it to the Panthers and Romo looked like a guy that can get the job done. Even on some of Bledsoe's better games I didnt' have that sense that "hey this guy can get it done", so I can understand your view point about them stuggling. Now onto Wrestling...I just bought the WWWE History of the Championship...wow...I am so happy i picked this one up, it is one of the best WWE products I've purchased. My question for you JR is as I look back at the glory days of having Stone cold, the Rock, HHH, and the undertaker, and for a while even HBK all available it just seems that the Main Eventers aren't out there to be had. I do like this new angle between DX and Orton and Edge. I thought the Promo Orton and Edge cut where they were dressed up like DX was outstanding...but other than John Cena there just doesn't seem to be anyone ready to make the jump..what are your thoughts????
Great post dude about ECW. Every match should be extreme rules. But that shouldn't mean that evert match people use weapons. Most of the old ECW guys cannot get a win, or even get on tv. It should always be at it's own taping if you ask me. To truely see the ratings shoot through the roof. They need two hours and to poach some of the old talent on TNA. Watch the ratings rise then.
I herd that Lita was planning to leave the WWE at the end of November. I was wondering if this was true. Thanks
LOL, JR it looks like you're going to be putting some of your BBQ sauce on some crow. The Panthers ended up jobbing to the Cowboys. And how about that Mickie James? Is she something or what? I really hope she becomes the top diva.
Hey J.R. I just want to say that I am a chicago native who loved WrestleMania 22 this year. I would like to know why New York & LA seem to get at least one PPV every year, but Chicago had to wait five years (the last was Backlash 2001) to get one. I would love to see the Royal Rumble come to Chicago, or perhaps Summerslam. With WWE increasing the number of PPVs each year (15? Way too many) you would a place that gets so much praise from WWE in interviews (Steve Austin comes to mind)would get more PPVs. Thanks, and you are the best announcer in the history of the business.
So let me ask you. Does the WWE want ECW to fail? It has been stupid decision after stupid decision. The whole point of having another "brand" (I hate buzzwords) is to have something different. Since the first show they have changed things to the poitn that its starting to resemble HEAT. The ratings have been on a slow decline. The people in charge refused to give it its own tapings which results in a crappy unintersted smackdown crowd. The two best episodes of the tv show were the two in front of an ECW crowd. They used the big show/ batista incident as a reason not to give it its own tapings. The idiot that thought of having that match in front of the crowd must have the intelligence level of Eugene (actually eugene had a more entertaining show on raw a couple years ago) Now dont get me wrong I have been a lifelong WWE fan. But I also love ECw and I just can't see how this can be a difficult thing to do. Jobbing out ECW guys to try to make guys that can't hang on raw or smackdown is crap. Now the are cancelling house shows and scaleing back "extreme rules matches". First off there never should ahve been those types of matches. ECW is no rules. They wanted to alienate the ECW faithful they are succeeding. (I keep saying they by the way cause I know you are in a position of power anymore) News flash though. The reason The two paper views had amzing buy rates (second to the last 2 wrestlemanias) was because of ECW faithful. The ecw dvds sold well because.....thats right ecw faithful. But I understand. If Paul heyman had been left fully in charge the quality of the show woul dhave been better than RAW. and we can't have that. The whole point of creating your own competition is to make yourself better. Its seems like ECW is there just so Vince can kill it. I don't know im just a frustrated fan. I hope my email doesn't get lost in the shuffle. I would love to hear your real op[inion on ECW and what should be done with it. cause at the current rate. Im sure it will be off the air next year when it gets cancelled. Thanks for letting me vent Jason
Well congratulations to the Sooners. That was the most frustrating game I have watched in several years as the Tigers missed some opportunities and could not overcome adversity most of which was their fault (the roughing the punter call was terrible). OU was able to play a nearly error free game which is huge in college football and they deserved to win the game. I would still like to hear your opinion on the upcoming Missouri/Nebraska game.
JR, great win yesterday! Truly a "character" win, and I hope one that will remind folks of what makes Coach Stoops such a treasure for the team. It's one thing to keep your team believing after the Bomar debacle -- you at least have time on your side then -- but with AD, well, the test of a leader of men is the ability to "Circle the wagons" and turn adversity into opportunity. Stoops has taken "self-doubt" out of the dictionary in Norman. I received my box of all four sauces and my hat this week. I've worked my way through them all and they are fantastic. The chipotle ketchup is changing my relationship with french fries (and unfortunately is likely to change my belt size too!) I know what my pappy and cousins are getting for Christmas. Any thoughts of putting together a holiday box that we can send to our loved ones? Keep up the great blog, it's a heck of a read for us wrestling fans and pigskin junkies, and keep that BBQ smoking.
Hello JR, I wrote you here a while back and in case you didn't see it I just wanted to let you know that I am a huge fan of yours. I have been watching you for years. When I was little I used to go to Oklahoma City and see you when you were working for Bill Watts in Mid-South and the UWF back in the day. I also loved watching you in WCW and then onto WWE and I must say that you and the King are what keeps me watching wrestling these days as the "stories" dont have much to offer anymore. I was wondering when you might write a autobiography? is one in the works? how bout a best of JR DVD? With your over 30 years surely there is more than enough good matches that you could pick from that would make for a good dvd so people that dont know you could get to know you? Well, I think you do a great job on your website here and the sauce is great!!! Oh whats the status of your contract situation with WWE as i have read on several websites you might be leaving? are you going to TNA? is that even a option? Well, I have talked way to much It would be nice if you might give me a shout out if you read this. My dad is a loyal "Boomer-Sooner Fan" just like you it would mean alot if you would say hi to him his name is Charles so if you reply to this it would mean alot if you might give him a quick shout. Take Care and I will keep watching. Derrick
Hey JR, I have sent you an e-mail as has many others regarding the ecw and cyber sunday ppv events not airing in the UK, please if you could, update all the millions of UK WWE fans on the situation as we are angry of the fact that we are being treated like this considering how passionate we are for the WWE, regards, Simon
Dear J.R., Im in Missouri right now, and we wre gonna whoop the Sooners boy! No hard feelings even after we send them packing back to Oklahoma, eh J.R. ?
Hi JR! Enjoy the game and God Bless! I want to comment on Booker T. I am a loyal subject of King Booker (since I saw him as one-half of Harlem Heat), and seeing him wrestle live and cut a funny promo made me like him more. I think other wrestlers must be like him in terms of cutting promos and selling moves. Him and his Court (Finlay, Regal) were the best things in SD! before they disbanded. Good thing he's a champ right now. I just have a question: Is Cena-Orton the main event at WM23? I definitely think that is in the works and is being reserved for the biggest event next year...
JR, As always thanks for answering my question. Also, hope you continue to do this blog as I am always interested in hearing your opinions on the business. My question for you today is in regards to international wrestlers and the WWE. Over the years WWE has had mixed success in using international stars. There are a lot of wrestlers in Japan that I would have like/ still would liek to see in a WWE ring. What if any internationl wrestling talent would you like to see in the WWE??
J.R., A Sad Day for a Tigers Fan. Thank God For Boise State and your Oklahoma Sooners are just creeping on up the polls. Potential Bowl Matchup? Anyways, A few weeks ago on RAW you all did a profile on This Week in Wrestling History about The Legendary Chamber of Horrors match at Halloween Havoc From years past. Do you think that with the tape archive owned by the WWE that they would ever put together a DVD of the most horrendous matches/gimmicks of all time. Like seeing a car crash on the highway I would recommend The Hell in a Kennel match, The AWA Team Challenge series(The Turkey on the Pole Match), Gimmicks like Papa Shango, Repo Man, or unforgettable moments like Jay Leno in a wrestling ring or Mae Young and the hand. I know this idea probably sounds absurd, seriously what do you think though? Could this Ever be something that the WWE Would Market? Anyways Happy Halloween and all the best to your family for the upcoming holidays. Boomer Sooner VS Boise State Thanks J.R.
J.R.,just to let you know that us WWE fans here in the UK will not be able to watch Cyber Sunday or the ECW pay per view, apparently Sky Sports have no plans to show either of the two events, that will suck big time J.R.
Hey Jr, watched a clip on WWE.com and Colt Cobana was fightin Hacksaw on HEAT. Whats your thoughs on Colt, and could you see him as a full time employee for the WWE, personally i think he has great charisma and in ring talents. and Have Fun at your game - we want to hear all about it! Kenny from Scotland
hi jr, go sooners. i lokked at the wwe website and next saturday royal rumble tickets go on sale, royal rumble will be in san antonio, i am excited cant wait. hope to meet you then if possible, i can wear my oklahoma football shirt. take care
hey jr you are comming to my home town of moline and i hope the show is off the hook. but what do you think of the undertaker and when do you think he will retire???? i am a big taker fan and wish he was on tv more offen Thanks LOUIE
Hey JR, Do you know if WWE are going to bring back the King of the Ring PPV. They brought back the tournament, hopefully they bring back the PPV. Also, what do you think of the Split Brands. I think it's about time it ends now, smackdown is losing alot of good talent to Raw, which clearly can tell Vince likes Raw over Smackdown.
Being from Mizzou, I must root for my Tigers. I think the absence of Adrian Petereson is going to be a hole that Oklahoma probably won't be able to makeup for in only a week of practice. I respect Bob Stoops and the OU program, but they might go down in Columbia. Missouri practically handed their only loss to Texas A&M on the road, in Texas. It will be a "slobber-knocker" for sure, though, JR! Go Tigers!
JR: I read your other article on this game and I have seen both MU and CU play in person and I strongly believe that MU has a better defense than the Buffs. Missouri has only had one close game all year and unfortunately we were not able to win in College Station but I think you will be impressed with the speed and athleticism of our D line even without Smith and secondary. I do think this will be a close game but I am confident in the Tigers who I feel are the team not getting any national respect they deserve because of the name on the front of the uniforms. I look forward to reading your opinions on the MU team no matter how the game goes and I hope you are treated well in Columbia. I think this will be a big time atmosphere as this is the biggest home game MU has had this late in the season in years.
i'm from the U.K aswell for further refrence
her j.r thanks for answering my comment about monty brown he would be really good on smackdown *hint hint* jus one question and its about tna, in tag team wrestling they seem to have alot more talent than you right now thats not a knock on the wwe but i don’t think it is high on the list of things to deal with right now i mean to me letting the dudleys go was a mistake and although they have not been used correctly by tna like angle is not neing used right, kicking off the joe angle feud this early big mistake, theirs no bulid up i bet wwe would of built up up to be special. christian wasn’t used good either, how do you see the wwe and its tag division right now and how could it be improved
Over here in the UK we get decent NFL coverage but college football is on pay tv. I cannot see the Bears keeping up their form. I reckon a Giants/Colts all Manning final would be good for the game.
