J.R. Signs New WWE Contract

We can report that Jim “J.R.” Ross signed a new contract with World Wrestling Entertainment Monday in Baltimore prior to going on the air for Monday Night Raw. Terms of the agreement were not made public. Ross’ long term WWE contract had expired on October 29 and J.R. had continued to work as the “voice of Monday Night Raw” under the terms of an extension. J.R. joined the WWE in 1993 after beginning his career in 1974 and previously worked in the wrestling business for WCW, Jim Crockett Promotions, UWF, Mid South Wrestling, and Championship Wrestling. Ross has broadcast more major wrestling events than any other broadcaster in the history of the business. We expect J.R. to address his new working relationship with the WWE on this site later in the week unless the avid OU Sooner fan is too busy preparing to attend the OU-OSU Bedlam football game this Saturday afternoon in Stillwater, Oklahoma. First off, gratz on the new contract. Now for some suggestions & comments. W/O HHH, DX & more importantly the Raw show is in trouble. The DX/Rated-RKO storyline along w/ the Cena/Umaga storyline has been carrying the show. The WORST mistake the WWE can make is to drop DX because of this. I suggest 2 new members join to help carry DX while HHH is out. The Hardyz would be a very good story. 1. they have Tag-team xp so they can face Edge/Randy & 2. it would make storyline sense since they have teamed up w/ DX in the past. As a 25+ yr fan of WWE/WWF, I don't remember a time when the storylines have been so NON-existent. More focus needs to be put on "surprising" & "catering" to what the fans would love to see. I have many other thoughts, but w/ the HUGE loss of HHH, these are my major thoughts I wanted to share. IF the WWE decides to "disband" DX then I suggest a face turn for Edge. I think we would except Edge faster than Randy as a face. p.s. Cena NEEDS to drop the title to Umaga to put Umaga over the top as a legit star & it is time Cena lost the title for a bit so that we as fans can cheer him on to regain it. Congratulations Jim Ross on signing your New WWE Contract regardless of what other people write to be perfectly honest with you when you were gone from raw those months and Joey Styles took over i liked styles for about a night but after Taboo Tuesday i wanted to kill him haha. You and The King are the best announcers in the WWE History i would have to say just make sure when they make Smackdown 08 They dont have the same commentating again. For the record something needs to be done about TNA's Announcers i mean as Ron Simmons would say "DAMN" Don West is far from a Commentator he really makes me want to turn TNA off. and Mike Tenay brags about how he is a former WCW Commentator he is the equivalent to Josh Matthews or Christy Hemme in TNA back in WCW so get over it mike. Anyway If you can get back to me J.R i respect the hell out of you and i really hope you stay for as long as you can :-) and if anybody is going to take your place it would be either Michael Cole or Tony Schiovanni that's really all i can say. I have been a fan of the WWE for many years now and it wouldn't be Monday Night RAW without JR. I have noticed some slips in your commentating but nobody is perfect and considering it is a live show you do pretty darn good. I think that no matter what company you choose to go with, you will always be a good commentator and if I ever get the honour of being able to meet you in person, I'll buy you a beer! JR! Congratulations on your new contract. As others have said, RAW isn't the same without you. You're just so good your voice adds to the hype and excitement of matches. Question: what do you think of Booker T's commentating skills? I read some months ago that he liked to do just that backstage and was good at it. When a few weeks ago he was the guest commentator for the triple threat match for the #1 contendership, he was funny was hell, and HE'S THE ONE redirecting the others to the ring action. Just a comment: I think Orton-Cena is the main event at WM23. I can honestly bet on it with my friends...

Congratulations on your new contract J.R! I hope you enjoyed your short stay in England. It wasn’t too cold for you was it! I like your ideas regarding Wrestlemania 23 matches. I would love to see HHH vs Edge on the card. Edge has been my wrestler of the year so far. He has had some really amazing, dynamic matches. I have a few thoughts on who I would love to see inducted into the Hall of Fame. Jerry Lawler for a start, Ricky Steamboat, Owen Hart, The British Bulldogs – Davey ‘Boy’ Smith and the Dynamite Kid, Mr Perfect, Earthquake, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, and of course…Yourself!!!! I am so pleased that C.M. Punk is being given the chance to shine on TV. He is such a huge talent and deserves all the success in the world. I have a wrestling joke for you, I hope you like it and pass it on to the relevant people, here it is. Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and HHH are proudly walking down the street with their new baby in a stroller, Stephanie says, “Do you want to push the baby Grandpa Vince?” to which Vince replies, “Of course not, it’s too small and it doesn’t know how to work!”

Happy Turkey Day JR! Hope it was happy and wholesome, assuming you don't have to work on Thanksgiving!? Looking forward to trying some of your "Spicy" bbq sauce, hint, hint... My dad makes some very good tasting unique cheese burgers and I usually put some sweet baby rays on it. Quick question for ya... I know you probably did'nt have anything to do with this, but I was looking for your opinion and or insights on when WWE had to take the "F" out, could'nt they have just added the E, making it WWFE and solve all the nonsense of blanking out all the WWF footage during the attitude era and bringing an end to the World Wildlife Fund dispute?

First off , congrats on your new WWE contract. and how did you not sue the pants off of WWE for them firing you for getting Bells Palsey back in '94? Second , ever thought of traveling to Bentonville , Arkansas to the Wal-Mart headquarters and possibly striking up a deal to have your BBQ sauces in their stores? Third , since this is not a WWE site and your blogs are open and free to talk about, does Triple H really play the backstage politics that badly ? Kurt Angle has certainly been very open about his WWE experience , and he said that not only Triple H , but all his friends play the political game , like HBK. he said HBK crybabied to Vince about not wanting to go to Smackdown and then Vince made Angle go . Angle stated that he was disappointed with HBK as it was a lame thing to do . This was on a Sirius Satellite radio interview that I listened to which is online, I would be glad to send you the link if you were ever interested. anyways - thanks again congrats on the contract. although I would've loved to see you call some intense TNA matches. did you catch their primetime debut? the angle vs. abyss match , as well as the Christian Cage vs. Rhino steel cage match were just AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!! .......................................... JR- I'm happy and relieved to see that you will be continuing with the WWE.I hope the "higher-ups" realize the great value you have , both on-air and off, to their company. As a jobber in Mid South, my initial impression of, which continues to this day, of J.R. was as a total class act, and true professional. Once the business got in his blood, it became a top priority, just following family and OU football. Congrats Jim, and hopefully you can do what you love for a long, long time.

I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed because I rarely watch WWE's horrid programming and I was hoping you might go to TNA, although I knew that was a pipedream. I really feel your talents are being wasted calling a mostly non-wrestling program, but I'm sure the money is good so I can't really blame you. I just hope you realize that by re-signing with WWE, you are basically endorsing their product and the tasteless things they do.

Hey Jim Ross. Glad you kept that contract going with WWE. I am not the biggest fan of the as I like watching Kurt Angle, Christian Cage, and the James Gang (Billy Gunn and Road Dogg). I am just asking what is your "businessman" opinion on TNA? Plus, can you tell if you knew about the TNA- Connecticut live event cancellation?? Did JR lie to us then ? Because he told us a while back that he wasn't working without a contract and to not believe the false reports. Congratulations to J.R.! He truly is the greatest broadcaster in the history of the business. He, in my opinion, helps Raw stay the #1 brand in the WWE. He is the best. So again, congrats to J.R., and also congrats to WWE for being able to continue to have the best in the business.

I'm happy to hear this news. J.R. is one of the best announcers of all time. Raw wouldn't be the same without him. I'm pleased that he will still be around for a long time to come. Speaking of contracts, I'm hoping J.R. comments on the follwoing rumors the next time he answers Emails. First, recent internet rumors suggest that Rey Mysterio's contract expires in 6-7 months and he may end leaving WWE to to "the competition". Is there any truth to this? Also, there have been rumors of Edge making the jump in 2007 as well. Do you expect Edge and Rey to be with WWE long term? Thanks!

Too bad JR didn't jump to TNA, but then again JR hasn't been the same great commentator since he went to Stamford. Since JR left Atlanta he has become nothing but a puppet for Vince McMahon. I remember JR and The Body being a fairly good team together and JR's show on AM750 out of Atlanta. JR and Lawler have both gotten stale, Lawler with his puppies, and JR with a slobberknocker. Not to mention JR needs to learn ladder sizes again, because that "15 foot" ladder must mean Edge or Cena is 7 1/2 feet tall. Chances are those ladders are standard OSHA ladders 8, 12, and 16 feet. So hopefully this contract is only a year because I'm tired of hearing the WWE JR.

Speaking of WCW, do you think that WCW might be brought back? I see a correlation between the new CW network and the acronym WCW. Smackdown, currently, seems to be similar to a WCW show because it has all the WCW title belts that the promotion used to have. I think that WWE can make a success out of having the top three promotions as separate shows on a different network once again. Also, I see former WCW stars (i.e. Booker T., Gregory Helms, etc.) on Smackdown than on Raw. Get my drift? Thanks.

That's fantastic news! And those stats are incredible! There is abosolutely no denying that you're the best in all of announcing history. Monday Night RAW is just not the same without you and the King calling all the action. Please keep up the awesome work, you never dissapoint. Just out of curiosity, just exactly how LIVE is RAW? Are there any delays or is it put on the air at the same second it happens? Just wondering, making RAW live is what makes it all the more exciting.

Hey JR whats going on, Im not trying to rush you, I know your a busy man, but you never answered my email. I had a couple of questions for you. First off, do you think Adrian Petersen will return for his senior year, maybe he is just holding out and not telling anyone. Second with A.D. and Allen Patrick both out for bedlam, do you think freshman running back Chris Brown will step up and lead the Sooners to a big win. Final question is have you heard any about the upcoming players next year for OU, a guy I know is going to join the Sooners next year, Austin Box is his name. This guy is 6'3" 220 pounds and runs a 40 yard dash in 4.4 seconds. I would like to know more about the Adrian and Bedlam questions if you have enough time.
