Weekend Feedback

Kieran/UK- I don’t think the Undertaker is undertilized. ‘Taker is a maginificent resource that should be used as an attraction and not weekly. Ron- I look forward to the Royal Rumble because it is going to be in San Antonio and it kicks off the march to Wrestlemania 23. It’s also the most challenging match the WWE has to broadcast. Sean- Thanks for “lovin’ our sauces”. Magnum T.A. is still in the Virginia area as best I know in private business. I haven’t seen Terry in a good while but we did talk on the telephone a year or two ago. Magnum T.A. was a natural and was Hall of Fame bound prior tho his tragic car accident. Maccy/UK- If I had to bet on an Austin-Hogan match I would I would do so reluctantly but would have to go with the younger and healthier Austin. Jim Z- I do not feel that the King is slipping whatsoever but it is hard to incorporate a great deal of his wit when matches times are so succinct. Our car trips together are hilarious for the record. Commadner 2010-My recent blog pretty much describes how I feel about the Big Show. He is a big hearted man who will be missed by many but I don’t think we have seen the last of him. I do think some extended time off will do the big fella a world of good. Matt- I have no idea if Matt Hardy will ever be WWE Champion. That might be a question better suited for Matt. The elder Hardy’s abilities are certainly title worthy. Jonny- I don’t know what the capacity will be for Wrestlemania 23 at Ford Field. I assume it is north of 60,000 but the final number will be determined by how many seats are “killed” do to production needs which are still being addressed. I do know that a limited number of $30 tickets were still available via Ticketmaster last week. Ed- Why are you not a fan of John Cena? I’m just curious. I personally don’t see John making any major changes in his presentation but I do see Cena continuing to improve because he works so hard. Ted Z- I am not on the sign police if one actually exists at WWE events. I think the WWE is pretty liberal with what they allow. I don’t think fans should be able to bring any sign they want. Profanity and obscene signs should not be seen on TV. Nor should signs promoting other wrestling organizations. Don’t confuse free speech with bad business or bad taste. Brandon- As it relates to the NFL, I like the teams that Bill Parcells coaches as a rule which means I have been watching the Cowboys lately a fair amount but I also watch the Bears and the Ravens because the of the number of Oklahoma players on each team. I don’t know about the wrestlers being involved in fantasy football but it would not surprise me with as many laptops as I see in the locker room. Chuck- I know of the success of Inoki and Takada but I would bet a bottle of sauce that Austin and Hogan still generated more revenue over their careers. That’s just a semi educated assumption. Chris- Will the WWE be bringing back the old title belts? Who knows?? The spinner title belt is a little out of my demo but I don’t hate it. Steve- I have addressed the Rock’s situation numerous times. The Rock is making movies and a bunch of money. He is happy and very busy. Will Rock ever appear on a WWE TV show in the future? I would say yes but I would not bet money on it. Again, wrestling is in the Rock’s blood and he still watches the WWE when he can. I do know Rock misses his fans and the “rush” of performing in front of a live audience. Dan- Is the ECW PPV the first one you ever bought that you didn’t like? Perhaps your expectations were too high. That happens to me more often than I like to admit. John- I have heard absolutely no plans about the Undertaker retiring after Wrestlemania. None. There are plenty of matches left in the Deadman if he is not road hard and put up wet. Anthony- Mark Henry is still recovering from his last injury. John- We hope to have our sauces in stores some day but that is a steep hill to climb. The “big boys” have most of the valuable shelf space tied up. Damien- Young wrestlers should master mat wrestling long before they start flying around and going a mile a minute. In general, young independent wrestlers should focus on mat wrestling and the psychology of wrestling before they create multiple crash and burn moments. This may not be the popular opinion these days but again I am an old school guy. Joe- The wrestling business is just like the Oklahoma weather. If you don’t like it today just hang around because it very well may change tomorrow. As a matter of fact change is inevitable. Frank- Lance Storm is a class act and a great teacher. I have always found Lance to be a respectful, professional and a credit to the business. WWEMan- I would assume the King’s favorite Diva is the one who happens to be closest to him at the time and is breathing. King is an equal opportunity lover of beautiful women. But I do think he may be partial to blondes. Mills- Ah, the old question about a wrestler’s “push”. Wrestlers who feel they are not getting the proper promotion generally blame the company they are working for at the time. I am not a fan of that excuse. With depth issues as they are, if a talent is a professional and has skills they will get to carry the ball. Individual effort and commitment comes before the magical “push”. Dee- One would assume that WWE Hall of Fame tickets in Detroit will be available thru Ticketmaster. My suggestion is to check out www.wwe.com every day for any updates. We will probably we talking about it on the TV shows, too. I love the Hall of Fame ceremony. Wayne- Whether it be mixed martial arts or movies, etc any vehicle that comes with a price tag on TV is competition to WWE pay per views. Wrestling and MMM PPVs are both attraction driven and I would assume share some of the same audience. Danny- Test is doing well on the ECW show and I would think Test will have a big year on that brand in 2007. Test is more aggressive in my opinion since returning from his hiatus. Robert- I generally see Droz when we are in Philly as he lives in the area. Droz is in great spirits and follows the WWE closely along with his Maryland Terrapins. I always enjoy our visits. Corbin- I never think of my “won/loss” record for the few times I have gotten into the ring as I feel my presence there is an embarrassment to the biz. The biggest bump I ever took was probably falling down the stairs when I was a kid on a sleep over at a friend’s house. Hopefully, you will never see me in the ring ever again. Dan T.- I hope you enjoy the Mohegan Sun Raw as it is a sellout and should be a good show. I have never seen Alter Boy Luke wrestle to the best of my knowledge. Bill- I have addressed the Heyman departure from the WWE already. It is always unfortunate when talented people leave any company. I have had my own issues fitting into the corporate structure thru the years so far be it for me to judge Heyman or the decision that was made. The WWE will continue to move forward as will Paul. Kev- I am not a huge fan of multiple ring battle royals but the WWE has not had one that I have been a part of so it could be on someone’s drawing board. John- I lean slightly toward the Vols in their bowl game with Penn State although I am a huge JoePa fan. My reasons are team speed and Tennessee playing in the SEC. I know the Big 10 is good too. Jason- I don’t like to respond to “rumors’ to any degree. I don’t know if RVD is happy or not just that he makes a great living and is very talented. I certainly don’t know what you mean when you say “hasn’t RVD suffered enough?” No one ever said this business was easy. Trust me on that one. Mark- I have yet to read Chris Nowinski’s book and he promised to send me a copy too. I know Chris put a ton of hours into it and I would venture to say Chris’ efforts will help others in the future. David/UK- I don’t know when harry Smith will officially debut but you can rest assured that when he does Harry will be ready. Harry Smith could be a huge star in this business. Molly- I too am a big fan of HBK having seen Shawn’s first match in his first territory. However, I don’t think we will ever see a HBK-Stone Cold match but it wouldn’t bother me to be wrong on this prediction. It would be a great match without fail but I don’t know that Austin has the time to get the ring rust off because Steve would want to burn down the house if he steps back in the ring to wrestle. I just don’t see wrestling in Austin’s future but if it is I will travel any lengths to see it. David M- My Royal Rumble prediction might lean toward Umaga until some one proves they can handle the big Samoan. Honestly, the luck of the draw has a ton to do with who wins the Rumble. Thanks and check out all the new items in our store. We have several items that are signable and can be shipped abroad. If you don’t delay we can get your order in your hands by the holidays. J.R.

Hey Jim!! i was just wondering when paul birchill was coming back. i know he has to work on a new gimmick because of the pirates of the carribean thing. do you know when he'll be back? thanks alot, Jayde
Love the Blog JR very interesting comments I am not sure is you can answer my query concerning two subjects 1) do wrestlers who meet for the first time in the ring (house, TV shows practice their moves together before hand as I imagine getting their timeing right would be very difficult and how many times do wrestles need to meet in the ring before they really know each others moves. 2) the size of the ring and the rope tension also interests me firstly any idea when the current 4 square ring size became the official size and obviously the robe tension determines the speed which wrestlers find themselves being propelled across the ring do you know if there is conflict between the heavy and crusier weight wrestlers (HHH, Big Show Vs RVD Johnny Nitro ETC) prefer the ropes very tight or loose. and is it arbitarially set up by the road crew. kindest regards your Aussie fan from way back Ian
J.R.- Here is an outside the box question for you. Which one of these wrestlers in your career covering our sport were the most impressive to you in using the full nelson? Chris Masters, Billy Jack Haynes, Ken Patera or is there someone else? Merry Christmas to you and your family. J-Hood Chicago, Il.
Hey Kev, let me quote you: "I personally didn’t see the PPV, since we don’t get PPV on cable in my town, just with satellite." To beat a dead horse, unless you saw the PPV, & spent $40 of your money on it, it's hard to understand HOW bad it was. I've seen some so-so PPVs & some bad ones in the past, believe me, but this was in the bottom 2 or 3. It's not that this was a bad PPV, it was OUTSTANDINGLY bad. I don't fault the wrestlers here, believe me. I agree that they were busting their asses to try to entertain the fans. It's kind of like the war... I absolutley hate the war, but I support the troops. I don't think they should be in Iraq, but I respect them for following orders & doing what they are told. The workers in ECW were doing their jobs, so I respect them. WWE should be held responsible for the lack of quality, not the wrestlers.
Old Wrestling Fan, your comment about Sabu is so accurate that one has to wonder why the top wwe officials don't realize it. Rumors say the man's being punished for not being professional...okay he's had some rough weeks, now give the fans what they want, what they pay to see and that is Sabu as a main-eventer. Here was the comment that so precisely described the situation with Sabu: "The new version of ECW is just awful. Seeing Sabu on that embarassing crapfest is like watching an awesome old tiger be stuck in one of those terrible Las Vegas shows."
Hi JR, it's me again... I read your Random Thoughts column and I totally agree that people should not be blaming for the ECW PPV turning out to be a dud... I've been a wrestling fan since I was 9 years old (i'm 22 now), and I've seen good and bad wrestling shows... When I was the announcer for our local radio station a few years ago, my boss told me that you can't please everyone with the content you're broadcasting. I personally didn't see the PPV, since we don't get PPV on cable in my town, just with satellite. Sometimes you get duds, and I don't think anyone is to blame for it. I've seen wrestling shows from almost all televised organisations. Regardless of weather the show was good or bad, those guys are still going out there and busting their asses to entertain the fans and deserve respect for it. When the ECW PPV comes out on DVD, I'm still going to buy it and, at least try to, enjoy it. I just cannot wait for the 4 Horsemen DVD to come out... Whenever I hear the horses braying and the electric guitar, I get chills and goosebumps... just their entrance theme signifies greatness. When Evolution was dominating Raw, I didn't view them as Evolution, but as an unofficial resurrgence of the 4 Horsemen. I'm sure wrestling fans just couldn't help idenfying Ric Flair being in a 4-man stable without a 4 Horsemen moniquer, if unoffical. I remember watchin Dec. 14, 2003, at Armaggedon when Ric Flair, Triple H, Batista & Randy Orton all stood at the entrance, all 4 of them donning gold, I stood up, raised my hands with 4 Fingers and yelled to my 9 friends watchin, "The 4 Horsemen are still alive" and they all cheered and whistled. One last question, do you accept money orders from Canada for your sauce? I don't have a credit card and I'm itchin to try your sauce. If you do accept MO's from Canada, I'll buy some of your sauce after Christmas (Christmas left my bank account a little dry at the moment.)
J.R. Will you be getting a new supply of Boomer Sooner Slobberknocker Towels for the Xmas rush this year?
Hey J.R! I saw your sauces, they're really tasty. I wonder if I can get some here in Mexico. By the way, we love you here in Mexico. Also, what do you thimk abot TNA's Voodoo kin Mafia's *stupid* feud with DX??? WEll you're awesome. take care
Hi again, JR. A couple of things I'm wondering... 1. Do you ever watch foreign wrestling (Japanese, Mexican, etc)? If so, who are your favourite non-US-based wrestlers? 2. I just borrowed a book from the library called "The 100 Greatest Pro Wrestlers of All Time". Not sure if you've read it, but it got me curious as to who you think the greatest pro wrestler of all time is. I won't bore you with the full 100, but I'll list the top 10 from the book to compare... 10. Buddy Rogers 9. Steve Austin 8. Giant Baba 7. El Santo 6. Andre the Giant 5. Hulk Hogan 4. Antonio Inoki 3. Rikidozan 2. Lou Thesz 1. Ric Flair
Hey Jr,I have two questions for you and also my opinion on John Cena. Personally I just REALLY dislike Cena, mainly because I hate his superman gimmick in which it seems like he can get the better of anyone. I mean even some of the greats like The Rock and Stone Cold did not have the ability to no-sell almost every move and come back with that bland, predictable offense Cena uses EVERY time to pull off the win. Also seems like Cena tries to steal a bit of Stone Cold's personality, where he tries to be a rebel, however I think he fails when it comes to that because he just seems like a fool and he could never do it like Stone Cold did it. My first question for you is about my favorite wrestler of all time, the monster Kane. It seems to me like Kane may be retiring soon,as he's been with the buisness for a long time and I've heard some rumors that he might take an early retirement like Jericho did. So I was wondering if there's any possibility that WWE would let Kane at least have one World Heavyweight Title reign before he leaves the buisness,I mean he's done so much for the company and he's been so loyal over the years,it'll just be such a major dissapoint for Kane fans worldwide if WWE doesn't give Kane at least one major title reign before he calls it quits. By major I mean one that lasts longer than 24 hours. Secondly I wanted to ask what you think of that silly crap that TNA's been doing on their show where Road Dogg and Kip James act like idiots by trying to insult the WWE. I mean honestly the things they're doing make them come off as immature petulant brats,it's just so lame. So what's your opinion on those childish TNA sketches?
JR, do you think the WWE will ever come out with a DVD on the history of wwe broadcasters (or pro wrestling broadcasters as a whole)? I think it'd be interesting to see some documentary segments on yourself, Gorilla Monsoon, Jesse Ventura, Heenan, Lawler etc....even Vince McMahon strictly from a broadcasting point of view. thanks! TJ
Heh Jr quick question is the fact that the wwe is putting a great deal of emphaise on tag team wrestling going to affect the amount of single matches for wrestlemania 23. Or do you believe that some wrestlers are being given the time to heel small or minor injuries they may be carrying?
J.R. Love the site!!! Just wondering if the WWE is going to have the Elimation Chamber on Jan. 7th? I've purchased tickets for the event here in Kansas City at the Kemper Arena. Also, I'm planning on attenting the New Year's Revolution Press Conference on Jan 2nd. Will teh fans be able to get autographs and pictures with the WWE Superstars at that time? Thanks! "Super Dongman"
JR - it's great hearing your honest, open thoughts and opinions. What do you think of Victoria's renewed psycho attitude and check list? I feel she's always been one of the better diva's, both in the ring and with how she works on her character. I miss Triah and Lita, but think if they keep Victoria as she is now, the woman's division could be re-built around her, especially with Mickie James, Melina, the ever improving Candice and Torrie, Jillian, Beth Phoenix and Jazz (where is she by the way - wwe.com states she's part of ecw but i've yet to see her debut on sci-fi-she is missed) Also is it true that Victoria has been working with a knee injury for the past two years, electing not to take time off for surgery? If so, surely such dedication deserve reward?
Hey JR, I enjoyed RAW last night and I especially liked your comment on 'Poor Kenny- no last name' lol. The booking for the majority of the show was very solid with noticeable effort especially going into the Cena-Umaga feud. I’m still unsure whether these two powerhouses can pull off a decent match however so far; I'm buying into it nicely. And I know certain critics and websites have been unhappy with the abundance of Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler on our screens actually wrestling recently, but I think it made a few people eat humble pie after the old footage showing King in that match against Kerry Von Erich. What I’m trying to say is that whilst Jerry isn’t going to be blowing us away with matches like that any time soon, with respect it is nice to see a legitimate legend working with younger talent showing them the ropes. Also its not as though Jerry is holding other talent down which can’t be said about others. Speaking of legends it was nice to see a ‘WE WANT AUSTIN’ sign in the audience at about 100 minutes in as it always puts a smile on my face. Onto another legend; The Nature Boy’s return was a welcome one and the fact that it held off the Triple H-Edge match till a possible Mania main event was almost genius. And of course this leaves a possible HBK-Orton bout in store for us fans. The other nice moment of the show was the Cryme Tyme segment, which made me smile. My only complaints were that I wasn’t sure whether it was wise to have Umaga squash Hardy and likewise with Cena and Nitro. I know it divides the two classes but at one stage in the WWE the IC champs were being primed for the big stage not being jobbers. And as for Carlito (I’m not going back on my word with regards to Jerry by the way, I just feel this in general) I believe he is not being booked properly. He is a talented guy and I believe a mile above Masters who I believe will turn out to be another Rob Conway. Anyhoo, not a classic RAW but good none the less. And of course your comments made the show that much better!
Dear JR, I wrote you last week about me becoming disenchanted with what I see on WWE TV and you responded. Thank you for doing so, I will take your advice to wait and see what develops, but more importantly, thank you for respecting us fans and not talking down when opinions may differ about a topic, it is something we appreciate very much. Joe
Could you please give me an honest update of Hulk Hogans WWE Deal/Contract? Also, any updates you have on the Macho Man Randy Savage would be most appreciated! Thanks for your time!
Hey Jr I love your blog. I was watching Raw this past Monday and saw the return of the "Worlds Greatest Tag Team" what are your thoughts about that, What do you think about Cryme Time?
Mr Ross, I should first say that this is the first that i have heard of your blog on this site and i will be sure to utilize this option on a regular basis. I have been a fan of this business for the better part of 25 of my 31 year on god's green earth... My question is that do you folks have another superstar to take the unofficial title of "giant" now that the show is temp. on the shelf, and if not is that something that talent relations might be looking for... And on a different subject i am a huge fan of yourelf and the King and i think that you two are the true A-Team in the biz and you should solo announce every raw and big event with the wwe ... keep up the good work
what do you think of tna ,roh, czw and what are your thoughts on kurt angle leaving wwe
j.r,what do you think of the new ecw,yes IT SUCKS but sacking paul heyman having a bunch of wwe midcarders.its a disgrace what wwe have done to ecw originals talent such as sabu, rvd, sandman should be championship contenders not jobbers,i think wwe should give paul heyman full creative control of the brand ,get rid off wwe superstars and carry on with origonals and graually bring in stars that have not been on wwe telivision.cm punk is great give him more main event status and the title.also bring in the tv title give it to sum1 lyk punk or a young star.also do you thin vinnie mac will answer vkm's challenge or has he not got the balls!please write bak, thanks
I was such a huge fan of WCW/NWA before the Hogan era began. In particular, yourself as the "face" and "voice" of all the broadcasts. In Solie-like manner, you added legitimacy and integrity to the sport. Although I'm from the Midwest, the belief by some, that your accent somehow made WCW more "regional" is preposterous, as your Oklahoma heritage was more of a background, or footnote of origin, not something to be turned into a "gimmick" in WWE. I wish things had worked out differently in WCW for you, as you added a lot to its presentation, but I was also curious what your contributions were behind-the-scenes from 1988-1993.
Hey JR! I think its great that you put you're time and effort into creating a diologue with the WWE fans especially since your a snr member of the WWE family. I love reading your blog/memories of the Big Show. Would it be possible to write out a couple of recent road stories that you've been involved in, I love to read about these as it gives us an insight into the people that we idolise. You mentioned that your biggest bump was when you fell down the stairs at a sleep over, what about the shots you took from Austin during the Invasion angle where he cut you open, they looked very real and very painful were they real or well rehearsed stunt punches? Do you see there been a return to factions and faction fueds? I think theres hope with the hint that Kenny could join Rated RKO. I would love to see that because I think DX were at their most entertaining when the outlaws, pac and Chyna were involved. Maybe the Hardys and CM Punk would be a great addition to the new DX, what do you think? They certainly had great chemistry at Survivor Series. Keep up the good work and please get the shipping sorted for the UK so I can order the autographed cook book and sauce. Cheers Chris
Hi JR, I was wondering, considering how popular CM Punk is, do u think that, in the future, he could be the next big thing in Wrestling?
Hi Jim its Liam Alexander, do you have any idea where RAW will be held the night after wrestlemania and when th tickets will be on sale? thanks
Is it at all possible that WWE will answer the challenge by TNA? I know if WWE acknowledges TNA on TV all they would be doing is giving TNA publicity but so what? what's the worst that could happen? WWE fans tune in to iMPACT!? No WWE programming airs opposite TNA programming so what if WWE fans tune in to TNA out of curiousity and they like what they see you wouldn't necessarily lose those viewers so why not? competition is good for business And what's with the censoring of anything TNA on WWE I'm very surprised that the TNA chant on a recent WWECW show wasn't censored but the removal of signs fans being turned away at WWE events because they were wearing TNA shirts WTF! TNA had a very big year in 06 they FINALLY got primetime they signed Kurt Angle etc. but WWE isn't going out of business anytime soon your ratings and buyrates are higher than TNA's look at it this way as long as there's pro wrestling there will be a WWE So why does it seem like WWE is afraid of competition? is it because of the "monday night wars"? TNA and WWE aren't going head to head in a ratings war so wash off that yellow streak down your back and accept the challenge Dixie Cater (TNA Pres.) seems like a nice lady I'm sure something can be worked out that would benefit both parties and ALOT of fans want it to happen
JR, I just watched the TNA PPV that was on my DVR, & ouch, was the VKM angle harsh. Have you gotten a chance to see it yet? The "parody" part, as they called it, was absolutely hillarious. No offense, but WWE had it coming to them. The next part, which they referred to as the "reality" part, on the other hand, seemed a little too real, & part of me believes there is a $1 million challenge to fight Paul Levesque & Michael Hichenbotham in a non-kayfabe match. They even referred to an "Offensive Coordinator" (no name, but it seemed pretty clear they were talking about you), who mentioned that Vince could care less about what B.G. James & Kip James had to say, but the gauntlet has been thrown down. Do you know anything about the legitimacy of this challenge? Has WWE been oficially contacted, or is this just an angle on TNA's part? I wouldn't normally ask the question, especially since it's been brushed off so many times & never really answered, but would Vince accept the challenge (& would Paul & Michael) if there was a legitimate $1 million purse? The fans, it seems, would definitely be interested. Talk about stirring the pot.
Hello J.R. Long time watcher, first time writer. I remember the first time you were on WWE/F. No offense, but you were hilarious in that toga. Anyway, onto the actual question: Do you think CM Punk should either a) be brought up from ECW and go into the Raw big leagues b) be brought up should and go to Smackdown c) stay on ECW Thanks for keeping it real. Boomer Sooner!
since we're throwing legal names around so freely, let me just say that Paul and Michael are 2 too-well-seasoned of veterans to play into the childish jealousy of Kip and Brian, they will never take those 2 guys seriously. And even if they did accept the shoot-fight challenge, the skills of Michael and the physique of Paul would make it an easy no contest match. Besides, Paul, Michael, and Joanie were DX for a whole year or so before Kip, Brian and Sean came along after Michael left to rehab his back. Which makes it seem like it took 3 guys to equally replace the calibur of one. And if you wanna take it backstage, the REAL Degeneration-X (or the Cliq as the were known behind scenes) was the team of paul, michael, sean, kevin and scott all 5 of those guys were awesome on their own. Kip and Brian were practically nothing before they got with DX. Kip had his identity crises (Billy Gunn, Rocka-Billy, Mr. Ass) and Brian along with Ron Killings tried their lil failed rap duo thing after Jeff Jarret was "Exposed" for lip-syncing to Brian's voice.
JR, just wanted to give my feedback on Raw tonight: . First off, the positives: As much trepidation as I had going into the match with Carlito & The King (big Carlito fan, bigger fan of old school Lawler) vs Viscera & Chris Masters (who I think both suck as wrestlers & performers), the match was totally enjoyable. Good storytelling in the ring, & Carlito really got to shine with his moveset in the match. I didn't think Masters making a second appearance tonight was necessary though, even if it furthered the Carlito/Masters angle. . The Cryme Tyme/Highlanders/WGTT promo was hillarious. I loved the fact that JTG popped his grill off & delivered his whitebread apology, & the Highlanders saying "I didn't realize Haas was black" killed me. After the terrible X-Mas Cryme Tyme promo a couple of weeks back, I was worried I wasn't going to like them any more. . World's Greatest Tag Team vs Highlanders: Again, as much as I wasn't looking forward to Haas & Benjamin tagging again, they did look great in the ring together. I'm not a huge Highlanders fan, but they are also entertaining in the ring. Did you notice how stiff that kick was that Shelton delivered to Robbie? Damn! . Also, it's good to see HHH acting serious again for a change. I was looking forward to a good one on one match, but the bookers decided to put the kabosh on that, so we got a 6-man tag instead. I was wondering where Michaels was earlier in the night, so I guess it made sense that DX got the tag. What I didn't expect was for Flair to come out. For all that the internet rumor sites seemed to "know" about where Flair would be, I'm glad to see him back in the ring sooner than expected. I don't like the idea of Kenny joining Rated RKO, as I'd like to see him prove he can make it on his own, but at least the match was enjoyable. The expression on Edge's face was priceless after HHH threw the "hammered" chair back at him. . Why does Ron Simmons make me laugh so much? I should hate his new "one word" persona (Stone Cold's "What" drove me nuts in a bad way), but I've been a fan of Simmons since his NWA/WCW days. . Victoria vs ANYONE is a good thing. She's easily the best women's wrestler in the locker room, & a very effective heel. Check off Torrie, because Mickie James is next! I'll actually be looking forward to a Diva match for the first time since Trish vs Mickie James. .................................................................. OK, so now for the things I didn't like: . UMAGA vs anyone = lackluster TV. This week the uber-talented Jeff Hardy had to have a mediocre match because he was in the ring with "The Samoan Bulldozzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzr" (sorry, I fell asleep). Please, Vince, end his streak soon. It's not exciting, it's not intriguing, it's ludicrous. I can't help but remember Goldberg's pointless 175 match win streak when I think of this guy. How am I supposed to possibly buy that there is NO ONE in the locker room who can stop this guy? Jamal? Give me a break. Even Samoa Joe finally lost a match last month, & in my opinion he's far more credible than "OOOOOmaga". To top it off, the ending of the match was pathetic. Also, the Samoan Spike was played out in the 70's. I commend you, JR, for being able to call a match with crap like that in the ring. . Now for the other thing, I could care less about Johnny Nitro OR K-Fed. For real. I checked my e-mail & started cooking my dinner as soon as I saw him come out for his match. I like Cena (sorry to the Cena haters; I totally agree with "The Hangman" on his observations on the RVD vs Cena & HHH vs Cena matches). But when Cena's matched up against Nitro, all bets are off. I consider Nitro to be the "King" Booker of Raw (I love Booker T, but "King" Booker makes me change the channel). The only thing Nitro has going for him is Melina is hot. She can't act to save her life, but she's hot. Oh, did I mentioned Nitro sucks? Why did he end up with so much screen time this episode? Also, what does "bitchify" mean? Did Johnny go to school with Lindsay Lohan by any chance? .................................................................. Overall, I have to say that this was a much more enjoyable Raw than recent shows have been. I hope WWE continues to go in this direction (minus Nitro & Umaga of course).
JR, I appreciate the time you take to respond to everyone's comments. I think we must acknowledge TNA's work to improve in the recent weeks. I attended some of the TNA shows when they were in Nashville at the Fairgrounds and they were AWFUL. However I purchased the TNA Turning Point PPV ast night and it was by far one of the best PPVs I have every witnessed. Kevin Nash on commentary accusing Sonjay Dutt of being on the "juice" was hilarious. The Eric Young Bikini contest was original and hilarious. The only bad thing was the Sting, Abyss, and Christian match as they all are terrible athletes at this stage in their careers. The Samoa Joe and Angle match was excellent. It was refreshing to not be able to predict the ending of the match. I enjoy the WWE, especially the Legends, but TNA is gaining ground. I would like to see WWE step up and stop the same ole mess. When can we get the Starrcade Box Set? CA
To RayW, I just would like to say that I'm frustrated whenever someone speaks for me. I'm part of the "IWC", or internet wrestling community that you speak of. I spend many hours a week watching the product (though I stopped watching ECW after the last PPV; there's nothing left that WWE can do to disgrace ECW any more than it already has). So now I spend 4 hours a week watching WWE product. I've been a wrestling fan since I was 2 years old (I'm 30 now). I had the lucky opportunity to get to see much of the inner-workings of wrestling because my father was friends with Bruiser Brody, Gino Hernandez, The Von Erichs, Big John Studd & knew Andre during his WCCW days. We also went & watched the lucha libre guys practice in San Antonio before their matches. For the record, after all of that, I'm a huge Cena fan. That's right. So apparently, I neither fall in the 60% of the "IWC" who hate Cena, nor do I fall into the other 40% of the "IWC" that are "very young age, and cheer the good guy, boo the bad guy religously". Last time I checked, you spoke for 100% of the internet wrestling fans, so I'm pretty sure your math needs some checking. I'm also fairly certain that I'm not the only one who likes Cena who doesn't fall into your nice, little tidy categories. Quit speaking for others, when you can only speak for yourself. Nuff said.
HI JR, I GOT A IDEA FOR VIC. HE OWNS ALL OF THE WRESTLING TAPES AND HE HAS MESSED UP ECW. ECW HAS A DEAL WITH SCI-FI UNTIL DEC.2007. TO SAVE ECW JUST RUN OLD ECW SHOWS UNTIL THE SCI-FI DEAL RUNS OUT. I WOULD WATCH THAT!COULD THIS WORK? THANKS JR AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
The WWE is not giving their audience what it truly desires - They keep doing the same act they did 6 to 8 years ago only using different names and in some cases, using the same (DX ANYONE) I truly believe Vince, does not want the business to grow after he is gone - He made the business and gave it the mainstream media attention and he will take that to his retirement or to his grave.... Wrestling today will never have the popularity it did from 1996 to 2002 - Face it, it is never going to hit that boom period again.... FYI: Having the competiion signs in the crowd does not hurt anyone - It gives people a chance to sample other promtions making the business stronger, if there is no competion, there is no business PERIOD!!!
hey JR, so glad they got you back this year, RAW wasnt the same without you!!!! im from scotland but managed to get tickets to wrestlemania. what in your opinion would be the ideal main event? also do you know if RAW the night after mania will be in detroit? keep up the great work!
Do you think DX and Mr. McMahon will accept The Voodoo Kin Mafia million dollar challenge? Do you even watch TNA wrestling? Hey you and the king should beat some sense into Chris Masters some day. Do you like Vince McMahon in real life?
Hey JR, I just read that Keiji Mutoh will be making a couple of appearances in the US as The Great Muta early next year. Any chance these appearances will be for WWE? I was a HUGE Muta fan in the 80's & early 90's, & was so excited when he made his NWO appearances at the end of WCW's life (even though I felt he was not used properly at that time). I would love to see Muta again, & I can only hope that he's making these appearances on TV. If you have any info, please let me know. Thanks!
Hey JR! I absolutely agree with what you mentioned about the Undertaker. He is a top star, and I still feel that with the kind of character he portrays that a match between him and The Boogeyman would be an excellent story line for WWE!!!! Personally, I would love to see The Undertaker VS. The Boogeyman at Wrestlemania or even on Smackdown!!!!
Here's another thing: You said: "I don’t think fans should be able to bring any sign they want. Profanity and obscene signs should not be seen on TV. Nor should signs promoting other wrestling organizations. Don’t confuse free speech with bad business or bad taste." Now here's the clincher.... Remember when WWE was swithcing television promotions from Spike over to USA, and WWE was doing all of its advertisements for coming to the USA television network? Remember when Spike TV was censoring all of the USA television network quotes and advertisements? Well according to you there's nothing wrong with that because promoting another television network would be bad business right? I remember how angry mr. mcmahon appeared on television but he shouldn't be angry because spike TV only did what WWE does when fans have TNA poster and chant TNA. So WWE shouldn't really be doing that should that. Freedom of speech right?
hey J.R i heard that Chyna was backstage on the Nov 27 edition backstage on RAW with X-Pac and Monty Brown do you think she will return anytime soon? because i heard also that she would like to return to WWE and wants to put the past behind, if she does return it would certainly help to have a Former Veteran Diva on the roster. Have you heard anything about Sunny because i heard that she's returning at the end of 2006 or early 2007, do you have any idea when its going to be. With Trish and Lita now gone and Victoria having that mysterious check Diva list, will that open up room for the development Divas to come up to the roster because i heard good things about certain Divas like Serena, Victoria Crawford, Katie Lea, ODB, Shantelle Taylor, Milena Roucka. I also heard that Jacqueline wants to return to WWE because she misses wrestling, do you think she will return?.
jr i enjoy watching raw and it is not the same with out u on it. i was wondering whatever happend to having multiple contenders for the wwe title. there was the rock, triple h,hbk, taker, austin, angle, and more. now it is either edge or umaga. sometimes it gets to be to much to see the same thing over and over. thanx 4 your time.
Hey JR. I was wondering why didnt the wwe every put the big show up against the Great Khali they keep saying that the big shows power is so unmatched but they also dont put him up agaisnt someone the same size like the Great Khali. They did this to the undertaker and kane both. they did it to everyone but the big show . I would have went across the country to see that match. but now all we do is dream about it.
Hi J.R First of all let me just say I'm very impressed with the commitment you put into feedback. Thankyou for answering my question a week or so ago. You really seem like a class act. I have another couple of questions for you. What do you think of the departure of Paul Heyman and the ramifications for the ECW brand? I personally believe Heyman was a strong link between the old ECW and the new version and gave it a great degree of legitimacy. Secondly, do you think Shawn Michaels will ever work heel again? I know that his faith prohibited him from a long stint as a heel around the time of his feud with Hogan but I believe Michaels would be better utilised as a heel. Thirdly and finally, I don't mind if you can't or don't want to answer this one, do you feel that Vince Mcmahon is abusing his power as chairman to the detriment of the company? The sacking of Heyman, the kiss my ass club, Big Dick Johnson; these are all angles or ideas to have come from McMahon and I personally believe they are harming the product. Don't you think that if McMahon listened more and ordered less, the WWE would have a more well rounded show to put out? Thanks Tim
Hey JR i was wondering what do you think of Mickie James' in ring skill? I have never been into a wrestler as much as Mickie she just has an eletric personality.I applaud whoever picked up saw the potential in one Mickie James and the future site of her potetial. Also do you think Mickie will be rember much in thes same way Lita and Trish will be rembred for?
I think it would be great to have a WWE PPV in the UK now, as the WWE are now doing more braodcasts over here such as raw and smackdown. The new wembly sadiam is near complete and will hold 90,000 seats....maybe a summerslam or wrestlemania will be great. And the product will be a def sell out!
Is it true the "Rockers" might get back together? Seeing as Marty is back in WWE training up and commers, and Shawn is still tagging with HHH. Speaking of HHH and SM, will they and a perminate member of DX?
Heh JR, just responding to someone speaking about John cena, my opinion is that he is a very good wrestler, people should remember he fights live every single week, and to point out flaws is not fair. He has a sequence of standard moves that he uses the majority of times that he wrestles but so does every superstar competing in the federation. My personal opinion is he is a good talker, the confrontations on the mic with HHH and Edge were respectfully very good, but everyone is due there own opinion and that is just mine. Have a good week JR.
Hey, J.R. Just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to answer so many fans' questions. I think with the WWE being the biggest wrestling company in the world that people can sometimes forget how much passion and love for the business its employees (whether they work in or out of the ring) have. Appreciate the insights. Thanks again, and merry Christmas.
How can our expectations be to high? I'm not expecting something unreasonable. I just would like to see some good matches along with good gimmicks. Is that to much to ask for? What makes a WWE PPV or any PPV stand out is that it has something to it that can't be seen everyday on TV. When half the matches in a PPV are matches that can be watched on a regular basis, that doesn't make for a good PPV. When the fan favorites are eliminated first and not even included in the top 3, how is that good television? Furthermore, how is it good business to advertise sabu in a match and then not deliver at the last moment? I don't care who gets in trouble. The WWE has a obligation to its fans who purchas the PPV to follow through with what they've advertised.
JR, Thank you for maintaining this blog. It is an invaluable connection to have with your fans. I hope you get as much enjoyment from reading the various posts as we have reading your thoughts. --Steve
