J.R.'s Family Bar-B-Q

Happy Holidays with new “Random Thoughts”

Happy Holidays everyone! I wanted to try and do another blog before the grand kids gets here and we shut things down for “family time”. Yes, for the 100th time, Owen Hart will definitely be in the WWE Hall of Fame some day but I do not know when. Any one wanting to do play by play for the WWE needs a “reel”. That is a video tape with illustrations of one’s work on it. To come off the street with no experience in broadcasting and to think one might get an audition isn’t going to happen. A college degree and a couple of years broadcasting experience is a must in today’s marketplace. Commercial breaks during matches are a damn if you do damn if you don’t proposition. I personally don’t like them but I understand why they are there. Commercials pay the bills to a large degree in addition to rights fees. They are here to stay during long TV matches. I would guess the next announcers to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame will be Howard Finkle and Gordon Solie. I suspect J.R. will be considered right after Izzy Slapowitz. The decisions to utilize certain arenas and not others is made by a separate department who has a long check list of items that must be in place in order for the WWE to be able to use a particular arena for televised events. Truck parking, ceiling height, backstage space, ability to use pyro, etc. are just a few of the considerations. There are many young talents that I like in the WWE and out but the one thing I will say that concerns me is their consistency and the fact that many of them are on the lazy side. What did I think when Mick Foley fell off the Hell in a Cell? I thought Mick had taken his last fall and may have been mortally injured. I think the WWE has the potential to do good business with WWE Films. Just like any other company, great material equates to great movies. The WWE marketing machine and the loyal fan base globally is something no other company has. I look for the Austin film to be a hit. Lighten up Francis, I made a joke about having to have security with me if I ever interviewed Randy Savage. Randy is not a psycho or an ax murderer. I have no idea who owns the watered down NWA name these days. The NWA last meant something in the 80s with Crockett but meant the most when Sam Muchnick out of St. Louis was running the consortium. Announcing from ringside is 100% better than being back by the stage and pyro where the RAW announcers were once stationed. That placement in my opinion was a joke. I think that Tony Schiavone is doing radio in the Atlanta area but I don’t know that for 100%. Will Mr. McMahon ever take the time to write a tell all book? Only he has that answer but I would speculate no on the tell all stuff. I have no idea who will be inducted into the 2007 WWE Hall of Fame but I would provide an educated guess that Dusty Rhodes will be on the list. I hope the list is somewhere between 7-8 inductees. The chance of a Hogan-Austin match at Wrestlemania 23 is about as likely as ol J.R. become a Texas Longhorn fan and turning my back on the Sooners. That isn’t going to happen and I don’t think this “dream match” will happen either. Nice to hear Nitro and Melina were nice to some fans at a gym. Pleasantly surprised me. Nice news. A one off Legends wrestling event might be the scariest concept I have heard this week. Can you imagine the physical shape some of the legends would be in and what kind of matches they would be forced to wrestle? I like selected Legend’s matches but not an entire card. Why was Chris Kanyon Fired? I have no idea. I was in Oklahoma and not involved whatsoever in talent relations when the dismissal occurred. Why I was dragged into the matter by Kanyon is still puzzling. I always thought Kanyon had an upside and above average abilities. I was not aware Kanyon was gay even though I could have cared less. Kanyon lashing out at me doesn’t give Kanyon’s cause much credence. I wish him well and have no ill feelings toward him. Marty Janetty is no long in the WWE. Perhaps he will return someday as stranger things have happened over the years. Marty would probably make a nice coach to some of the young wrestlers. I don’t think the WWE Magazine, which I happen to really like now that it has endured a make over, or any other publication can ever tarnish Kurt Angle’s legacy. A lot of the WWE Magazine’s content is humor based much like J.R. being named WWE Announcer of the Year according, I’m sure, to my critics. It is doubtful that there will ever be a J.R. playable figure in a video game because it would knock out a deserving wrestler from being in the game and adversely affect their income. I would not be for that. Plus, I can’t wrestle a lick. Sadly one gets used to a certain amount of blood at ringside after seeing in for over 30 years but it is still disturbing especially in the amount of Flair and HHH recently. J.R. merchandise in the WWE ShopZone will be a reality right after I lose my Oklahoma drawl, recover fully from Bells palsy, and stop eating Bar-B-Q. In other words, the company’s philosophy is largely that the announcers don’t mean enough to merit merchandise. Of the tradition WCW guys who have the best chance to go into the WWE Hall of Fame, I would suggest Flair, Benoit, Booker, and Rey. There will be more but those names are nice starting places. With QB Colt McCoy back and Texas playing down the road from their campus in the Alamo Bowl, I would suggest that the Iowa Hawkeyes will have a tough road to travel. Iowa is better than their record indicates but this should be alike a home game for UT which should give them the edge. Iowa is well coached and produced my friend Bob Stoops who is the head honcho at OU Football. I have never had any regrets about getting into the wrestling business but it did cost me some football gigs over the years that I regret. I love wrestling but wish I could do both at this stage of my life’s journey. Broadcasting OU Football has always been a dream of mine. I don’t know when Monty Brown will start in the WWE but I don think Brown would be well served to get into intensive in ring training with some of the WWE best teachers like Arn Anderson, Ricky Steamboat, Dean Malenko, Fit Finley, Steve Keirn, etc for a few weeks prior to being exposed on national/worldwide TV. Monty needs some polish to go along with his natural athletic ability and charisma. I have no clue who owns the USWA footage but I think the King owns a fair amount of it. This deal really got to be a mess when the Jerry Jarrett/Jerry Lawler partnership dissolved. I am partial to my friend the King but can’t say I am as high on Jerry Jarrett which would be natural comparing him to Lawler for me personally. No matter who owns the material it would be great to see on WWE 24/7. Joey Mercury’s serious injury will not stop the WWE having Ladder Matches. The beloved, extreme, Holy S@#* moment was underscored in this potential career threatening situation. If one wants to be a wrestling manager, I suggest one enroll in wrestling school in OVW/Louisville. Danny Davis is one of the best teachers around for all phases of the business. I always liked Kevin Kelly and felt he had potential to become a really good play by play talent in the WWE or where ever he chose. I always respected Kevin’s passion and the fact that KK was a fan first. I wish Kelly had received a better break in his professional career but he has strong faith and that will take him to places the wrestling biz might not have. I would bet Sunny gets into the Hall of Fame right after yours truly. In other words, let’s not hold out breath on either one of us getting inducted. On a serious note, I always like Sunny and truly hope her life is going well no matter what she may be doing these days. She had a great aptitude for the business. I do not know the Saturday Night Main Event schedule but I “assume” it will be back in 2007 prior to Wrestlemania 23. LAX is an entertaining entity primarily because Konnan can really talk. Who is the future of ECW, RVD or C.M. Punk? I would give the slight edge to RVD but only time can tell for sure. I don’t think Stone Cold was disappointed in his book but I am sure he would approach it differently if he were to write one today because of his time and schedule. Steve was very active in the writing of the book as was Dennis Brent and yours truly. I just received Chris Nowinski’s book and hope to read it soon. Chris is a good young man who should be successful no matter what he decides to do in life. I can always say I once hired a “Harvard Man”. For someone to compare Kurt Angle to Lex Luger screams of one needing a drug test. Brad Armstrong has been under contract to the WWE for quite some time. It was nice to see Brad do some commentary on ECW last week. I am anxious to see if there will be more to come. Brad is a funny, witty, knowledgeable guy. Would I be interested in going back to Talent Relations some day? If it meant leaving Oklahoma, no. I am not a good fit corporately to be honest with you. My presentation skills leave something to be desired as I am too blunt and sometimes too honest for my own good. My philosophy of who the WWE should and should not hire probably doesn’t fit the corporate mind set either. Bobby Lashley has potential galore. Time will tell if Bobby becomes the consummate student of the game and studies tapes of his predecessors so that Bobby can have the success some of the WWE’s biggest stars have attained. Both Magnum T.A. and “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer were extraordinary talents but as different personally as night and day. Buzz lived for the moment and was not the most popular guy in the locker room. But what a badass! Great powerslam! Buzz even taught Magnum the basics of the game for a large financial fee. T.A. would have been a Hall of Famer for sure if he had not been involved in the tragic automobile accident just as Terry was reaching his prime. I am happy for Steve Borden If Steve is happy to be back in the business. Steve is a class act and an even better human being. Whether Steve ever migrates to the WWE is a time will tell matter that really on Steve can address. I don’t think there will ever be a wrestler’s union because when one gets a group of wrestler’s together they can’t even agree on what to have for lunch much less agree on by-laws, officers, goals, etc. I don’t think it will ever happen. The lapel pin I wear is an “OU” pin representing Oklahoma University. Video game voice overs are done in a studio, mine in Oklahoma and King’s in Memphis. We read from a script and have some leeway to ad lib some lines if they fit into the game. It’s a fun job to be a part of. Mil Mascaras is an ageless wonder who I still have never seen with his mask off. Great physique and high flying were trademarks of this tough business man who was known to be tough to deal with behind the scenes. Terry Taylor is a great guy who is working in TNA. I am happy for Terry who is a student of the game and once worked for me in talent relations in the WWE. I have known Terry since he was a star in Mid South Wrestling. When Curt Hennig died and the WWE did a 10 bell salute and then followed up the next week with a video tribute it was because of the available time the TV facility had to get the video ready. I sure as hell had nothing to do with a lack of respect for Mr. Perfect I assure you. Nice to hear from Brandon who was originally from Bixby, Oklahoma but now unfortunately lives in Austin, Texas. Happy Holidays Brandon. We can debate the theory that “creative has nothing for a wrestler” until the cows come home. If a talent has potential but hasn’t tapped into it yet then the talent needs a serious “sit down” to determine if the talent/wrestler really wants to be in the business and bust their backside to be a star. Sometimes people are released and the true reasons may not be made public to keep from embarrassing the wrestler, too. I have had to cut many wrestlers who had the physical ability but not the mental capacity to be a star and allowed their personal life to drag them down. Plus, some wrestlers just don’t have “it”. I don’t choose to compare Don West to Mike Tenay. As it relates to wrestling knowledge, product knowledge, etc few compare to Tenay. If one compares my moaning about working on Jan. 1 to active duty in Iraq there isn’t even an argument or an issue. I will be in Miami on New Year’s Eve safely in my hotel watching some football and then will happily do RAW on Monday and watch the OU game on DVR when I get back to Oklahoma on Tuesday. What are Armed Forces do in the Middle East is genuinely heroic. I have HUGE respect for these soldiers who are fighting a war many of us are still attempting to understand why exactly we are there. Toby-J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q will open in Norman in April 2007 at the site that formerly housed the Krispy Kreme in front of the Super Wal-Mart just off I-35 and Main. All your Bar-B-Q Dreams will come true soon! It was nice hearing from Jim Powell. Nice to hear Jimmy is still doing well. Lots of hard working and talented non superstars who have contributed to the business are never given the credit they deserve. Thanks for contacting us Jim and Happy Holidays to a talented in ring wrestler. HHH behind the scenes is one of the more asked questions I receive. I have yet to have a cross word with HHH since I signed him years ago. He is a genuine student of the game who gets unfair “heat” because of who he married. I don’t think that is fair and I am not saying that to kiss any one’s ass. At my stage of the game my ass kissing days are history. HHH is an old school wrestler that I have great respect for which will not endear me to many of you but someone asked and I feel compelled to be honest. I have never left the announce position to take a “bathroom break” in over 30 years. But I have work dark pants more often than not “just in case”. I don’t know this for fact but I would provide you an educated guess that there will be no more members added to DX. When I think of wrestling in Indianapolis I think of Dick the Bruiser, Wilbur Snyder, and Bobby Heenan among others. Indianapolis was once a hot bed for old school wrestling. Now it’s known for Peyton Manning and the Colts. In hindsight, and I was as guilty as anyone, the 900# wrestling hotline was largely a scam back in the day. WCW especially was hardline on it being down but it was really a way to earn extra cash for the company. I never made an extra dollar off of it. I think the mass exodus from the WWE to any other wrestling organization is a little bit of a knee jerk reaction from uninformed people. Will some people leave the WWE when their contracts expire…probably. But that’s not big news is it? The most money to be made in this business that includes several different money streams and worldwide exposure is still with the WWE. Some wrestlers may want a lighter schedule but the cash is still the thing no matter what most people say. Kenny Dykstra has an unlimited potential. But so did Mookie Wilson…only kidding. Kenny now has a last name and obviously has many physical skills for such a young kid. Hopefully he will not acquire any stupid, bad habits that retard his professional growth and that would put him in the “idiot category” many wrestlers with “potential” have. My favorite U.S. city to work in is Oklahoma City because I can drive 20 minutes south and sleep in my own bed with Mrs. Ross which I still enjoy for an “old dog”. UK cites like London and Manchester are great as are Canadian cities like Toronto and Montreal but I have had some great times in Vancouver and Calgary too. Same for Tokyo. It’s hard to narrow it down to one international city as each have their own set of exclusive “benefits”. The Boogeyman is an interesting entertainer but I don’t know yet what sort of wrestler that he will become. Get back to me on this one. I hope we NEVER see J.R. in another storyline ever again. I don’t like doing it and don’t merit the air time over a deserving wrestler. I can see where an astute fan could favorably compare Johnny Nitro with a young HBK. I hope Nitro has the burning desire to become the best at what he does as Shawn has. Bull Nakano was a phenom. She was an extraordinary talent who exuded physicality and amazing ring psychology. I also think she and the King would have made a cute couple. I really don’t remember why Raven left the WWE. I am sure it was either over his creative positioning or money. It’s usually one of those two matters. Raven is a bright individual who I used to enjoy talking with when we worked together. I wish him great health and peace of mind. From what I understand Bary Windham will soon be joining the WWE as a producer/coach type person. BW was one helluva hand in his day. I have heard nothing new on the much discussed Paul Heyman situation. Again it is unfortunate for all involved as Paul has so much to give but some people, me included, are not ideal fits in a corporate environment. Don’t mistake the performance of the 2001 Survivor Series and me hammering Heyman as an indication that I did not or do not “like him”. We were performing plain and simple. If you want to hear some classic battle between the two of us then listen to some of the old WCW tapes when we worked together and fought like cats and dogs. My gut instincts tell me Heyman will be much happier in the future writing screen plays, etc than being involved in a corporate structure he never was apparently designed for. The U.K. fans are often times more emotional than the U.S. fans because the U.K. fans don’t get to see as much of the product live. Both fans are great and help pay my salary so thanks to you all. I know so little on the wrestling show that will start soon on MTV I am not a good person to provide an opinion on it. However, never being one to back away from a question, unfortunately, I would have to give their chances of survival as being a long shot. Who will be their stars? I have heard zilch about a pending Rock DVD but I would buy it. It would work best if Rock had the time to devote to picking out his favorite matches and to be interviewed for it as well. The Rock is one of my all time favorites and one of my greatest, personal hires. What is the status of ECW? This question is asked virtually every day. I do not have the answer except to say it is a work in progress, it is being re-designed, it will probably take a year or maybe two to get it to where the WWE wants it, Bobby Lashley seemingly is being positioned to be the “face” of the brand if he can handle the load, and that I am willing as a fan of the genre to patiently wait to see how it evolves. I also know that long time ECW fans will most likely never be happy with the new ECW. I also feel that Paul Heyman leaving ECW will not automatically doom the brand which is no knock on Heyman. I watch the brand every week. If it causes consternation to you to watch it don’t do it. It is a TV show, plain and simple. Happy Holidays everyone and check back with us again soon. I appreciate all those that have bought caps, shirts, books, sauce etc and continue to do so. Without doing some business we can’t maintain our site which I am having a blast doing. We will be introducing Beef Jerky in mid January which I have been deeply involved with the development of the product and am so proud of how it has turned out. Be well and take care everybody and enjoy Christmas from Baghdad Monday night on RAW. J.R.

J.R, I have been a fan since being stationed in Louisiana back in the mid 80s. You were great on Mid South and it is wonderful to see the success you have achieve. Do you remember Magnum TA, aka Terry Allen? I went to a tribute match in Chesapeake, VA last weekend and it was a very moving experience. To see the ravages of the automobile accident,21 years later is devastating. But, Terry was a champion, he fought through the pain. If he had not been left partially paralyzed, he would have been a champion in the WWF. I thought you would want to know about the Magnum TA tribute. A long time (20 years+) fan, Doug

JR so far i think the planned matches for wrestlemania 23 are weak. I just hope we get matches like FLAIR vs. CENA now that would be a dream match. It would be like the ROCK vs Hogan we had few years ago. Even flair vs hogan would be awesome. and please get rid of one of the world tag tittles. The tag teams in wwe are weak. At least when you have 1 tag team belts it would make the tittle worth somthing with your 4 teams that you got. Thanx for your time.

J.R., Thanks for having an open and honest wrestling blog. It's rare to see someone be honest about the wrestling business these days. I enjoy reading your posts time and time again. One question for you...Any idea if "Mean" Gene Okerlund will ever come back "on-air" for the WWE? His reactions to the talent during interviews were priceless.

hey JR could you tell me if wwe is interested in bringing back brock lesnar i am aware that there was some tension between both parties but i would love to see batista have a big guy who can really challenge him for the title. i am aware that there are people on smackdown like kennedy, undertaker and booker t who could challenge him altough im not to sure on the king booker and deadman gimmicks at the moment i liked the american badass gimmick and king booker is just taken too far. i think it would make smackdown much more interesting with a real good contender

hey JR, is it possible that DX will do any on air skits about VkM, those guys have bashing them on their "show". it would be interesting to see what DX has to say to their former teamates.

Will Hulk Hogan ever do "the job" for Ric Flair? I can't ever recall of him doing that. I think there are a lot of fans out there who would love to see that happen. Maybe another legends reunion? Night of the Legends title and another classic Starcade would be good in my book. Anyway, Hogan owes it to Flair and the millions of fans out there. I will say it took quite a while to remove the mile wide grin from my face when Double A beat him two weeks in a row!!! Hogan was good for the wrestling exposure, but Flair will always be the best in the history of pro wrestling. That's what counts in my book. WWWHHHOOOOOOOO!!!!

Hey there JR Happy New Year by the way!!! I agree with some ppl there should not be a HHH vs Cena rematch at WM 23 when you have HBK... WWE started this tease with HBK and Cena when Hogan was going against HBK. Another possibility is give it what due as well Hogan vs Cena it would bring his status to a higher level to beat the icon of this sport... However I don't think that will happen but HBK vs Cena would make the card more enjoyable then HHH. Those 2 (Cena and HBK)are both electrifying in the ring and would make for a better match in front of 60,000-80,000 in Detroit then a rematch from last year!!!

WHY WOULD THE MIGHTY WWE RESPOND TO THE ****ROACH THAT IS TNA? *BOWING DOWN TO VINCE MCMAHON*

I went to a Show last week to see Booker T's (PWA)show down here in Houston. Greatest indy show I have ever seen. He had wrestlers from WWE Umaga,Charlie Haas,Torrie,Shelton Benjamin,La Resistance, and Boogeyman. My hats goes off to Booker. I can't wait until the 25th of January for the next show. It reminded me of the old Houston Wrestling shows with Paul Boesch when I was a kid and my Father would take me and my younger brother to the shows every Friday night. On Booker's website he is training Referee's. I am interested in Applying.

Hey J.R., I am a 15 year old male and im from NC. I have alway LOVED wrestling and some day want to Main Event Wrestlemania. I know the age limit is 18 to be a wrestler, but that will be here before i know it. Whats some advise of becoming a wrestler? Is OVW the way to go?

Hey; First off, the whole blog thing is great. You come off as really down to earth and honest, which, without meaning to be offensive, isn't necessarily what fans see from those working within the wrestling world. Anyways, I just wanted to correct you, you were a playable character in one of the Nintendo 64 wrestling games, Wrestlemania 2000 and / or WWF No Mercy. I did have one question though, now that the whole ordeal of changing the trucks, the signs, the posters, the mics, the desks, the ring skirting and whatever else was necessary, how do you feel about being a part of WWE instead of The WWF? Also, why do people insist upon refering to the company as "The WWE?" It isn't The World Wrestling Entertainment.

Good old J.R. Will the WWE ever release RAW, Smackdown, Nitro, Thunder and ECW Seasons on DVD. I would love to relive every episode of the wrestling wars of the 90's. I know there are over 350 shows a year but they can release them in parts. That would make a lot of fans happy and the WWE a lot of money.

Hey J.R, my question is have you seen this VKM (road dogg and billy gunn) and what are your opinions of them. my personal opinions is that they are still stuck in 1998 by yelling through a cone at a empty WWE building. Your the best in the biz J.R,thank you for all the wonderful years and hopefully there are abunch more ahead!!!

I would love to see some old WCW compilation DVD's about WCW stars, tv matches, title histories, tag teams, feuds, etc 80's wrestling rocks - NWA, AWA, USWA, UWf and WWF!!!!

hey jr, i've heard numerous rumors, and i stress rumors about batista defeating the undertaker at wrestlemania 23, the animal is a great competitor, but if the deadman had to lose a match a wrestlemania ending his winning streak, wouldn't you think it would be to a more deserving opponent? someone more seasoned? someone that has been around at 10 years, maybe someone like hbk, hhh, or even chris benoit, maybe even booker t

Will we see The Rock or Stone Cold in the WWE again? As a very long time viewer, I feel that we are missing the huge names at the top right now. I see problem areas in most of the top stars the are showcased at this time. Batista needs to polish his microphone skills and acquire the ability to extend his matches past 15 minutes I.E Chris Benoit. IIn my opinion Smackdown is in trouble with their talent.

J.R., you are deffienitly a shining star in the busisness, there is no other play by play commentator better than you and my question is: Do you ever see the rock returning in action on wwe programing. And if so do you think he will hold a World Championship once again?? HAVE A GOOD ONE! dennis g

hey J.R. I got a question, are you allowed to volunteer to go Iraq or wherever they go for the tribute for the troops show or are you asked to stay in the us? i know it's volunteer but i also know RVD has said no twice and gotten in some trouble for it so just was wondering if you (or the king) volunteer and vince says no(or whoever is in charge of letting superstars go) or do you just not want to go and you get in trouble or it's ok? please respond as soon as you can thanks

Happy Holidays to one of the best announcers in the business today. I was just wondering about Vudoo Kid Mafia in TNA calling heat on Shawn and HHH? Is that a ratings plug for TNA or what?

Do you think Dan Rodimer or Oleg Prudius will be as big of stars as many are claiming?

Hey J.R. how u doing i hope you had a nice holiday cant. My one question is one that almost every wrestling fan wants to now....When will DX & Vince respond to VKM? We want to KNOW!!!!!!!!!

Hi J.R., How do you feel that some wrestlers with darker characters would have faired in the WWE? A few that come to mind are Muta and Vampiro. I would like to see a Muta like wrestler in the WWE. I thought Hakushi (bad spelling) was a great chracter but in the end it didn't work out. Also I just watched a ROH clip that introduces thier roster, it came off as a highlight reel. Do you think there is a place for the smaller worker these days? Is it hard to try to turn a wrestler who relies heavily on high spots into a wrestler who would fit in more with the WWE? Some names that come to mind are Jack Evans and Teddy Hart. I think a big reason why the UFC is doing well is becasue thier TUF show lets you become familar with the fighters on a personal level. I also think alot of the great WWE superstars did the same thing. They made you care about them on a personal level. Do you think that has more to do with good writing or just the "it" factor. I must seem like a scatter brain, sorry. Here's hoping that this didn't make you want to gouge your eyes out. Take care and all the best, George L. Parker

Santa left me with a great present this year, Wrestling at the Chase, an incredible book with great wrestling history. Sam Muchnick was a genius and a well respected promoter. I remember wishing I could get some of that action I read about in the wrestling magazines from St Louis, but alas I lived in the northeast and could not get it there. If you have any time in your busy schedule, pick up a copy and read it, I'm sure you will like it. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Why did Vince botch the angle with his son over the wcw vs wwe? I was sure that was going to be a huge angle and would of attracted fans of the realms of wcw and wwe.

BTW...General Akbar says to tell you hello!

JR, As a kindred Oklahoma spirit I just wanted to wish you and your family a happy, healthy New Year! I grew up in Yukon just outside of OKC and watched the likes of Billy Sims (who I have the pleasure of calling a friend today), Thomas Lott, and Elvis Pea****! I bleed Sooner Red and am so incredibly happy to see you wearing that OU lapel pin each week! Funny how I never see a longhorn pin anywhere on anyone else in TV? Currently living in Dallas, I've had my fair share of the Texas fans in my face due to their winning the National Championship. But, when they get 7 they can talk. Just wanted to tell you you're an incredibly inspiring individual who has persevered beyond anyone's wildest dreams. Congratulations on all of your success! I can't wait to make that drive up 35 to get some BBQ! See you at a home game next season! GO SOONERS!!!

J.R., hope you had a great holiday, and hope things are well. Been a wrestling fan for over 25 years, and probably will not stop watching anytime soon. One thing troubles me though. Was browsing through the WWE website and looking up RAW, Smackdown and ECW taping photos. Happened to come across Trinity's profile. I assume that Trinity has what it takes to become a superstar within the women's division, given her chance. The question I have is, will we see Trinity in a more "wrestling" role soon? Will more deserving female performers make their way to the roster to challenge Mickey James? Also, when will we see Beth Phoenix back in the ring? I love the men performers just and much as everyone else, but also enjoy a good womens match. Have a happy holidays Gary, Pittsburgh, PA

What do you think of TNA stars AJ Styles, Chris Daniels, Samoa Joe, Homicide and Petey Wlliams. Happy Holidays.

Oops Thats Good Ole J.R.

J.R. I gotta say that your always on the button with damn near every subject/matter thrown at you. I have nothing but the outmost respect for you. And I have enjoyed watching and listening to you for the past 14 years. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Goog Ole J.R.

greeting to you and your family mr ross i've been watching wwf/wwe since i was 10 i'm now 26 and i have to say i've seen many 'superstars' come and go just wanted your opinion on wether you think scot hall and kevin nash will ever return i think hall has all the talent both on the mic and in the ring and would be a great heel against cena/hhh oh and not to forget a ladder match with hbk wow the second ladder match between these is my all time favourite match! hope i didnt go on to much thanks again keep up the awesome high standard

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year JR. I've been a wrestling fan since the early 80's. My first live event was the old AWA where I saw such greats as The Midnight Rockers, Big Scott Hall, Rock n'Roll Buzz Zumhoff, and the Superfly. Im interested in your take on TNA's VKM and the direction these former WWE stars are taking their characters. That show is improving I think, but week in and week out these guys are becoming annoying. They waste valuable TV time by whining about DX and their constant attacks on their former colleauges are insulting to who they are and what they've accomplished in the business. What do you think about them, and why do they hate HHH and HBK so much? There is no war here, the two companies are in different worlds right now and forever will be. Do you ever see Gunn, James, or X-pac returning to the WWE? Will Sting ever be invited to the WWE? He is such a talent. Thanks JR see ya on Mon.

wow jr keep up the goog work

Hey J.R, Merry Christmas to you and your family! Anyway, there are so many websites out there with rumors and whatnot, its hard to know what to believe. I've heard from numerous places about xpac and scott hall doing indy shows and wwe house shows under the "wolfpac" name. Anyway you can confirm this? Also if these rumors are true, what are your thoughts on it and do you think they will show up on WWE television anytime? And one other question, do you think the rock will ever return to the ring? i was watching some old tapings of him and i realized how much i miss seeing him. Thanks for the response if you get the time!

i know you have been in the wrestling business for a while and i need a little inside info on a wrestling school in my area, i did back yard wrestling(yes i know its wrestling forbidden art), and after getting beat up every week for 10 year, i would like to try and get a start in the wrestling business, i live in the boston area and the name of the school is chaotic wrestling school, any help you can give me would be helpful, i mean i have been watching wrestling sense W.M.3, i know almost every wrestling move there is, i even had a sit down talk with Tito santana and tony atlas tito said if i polished my skill on the mic i could make a great announcer someday, tony was not that nice but thats a different story well that enough for me have a great holiday like i said any input would be good c=

I am glad to see someone in a high profile position respond and be down to earth with people. I think that you are the best at what you do. Comparing you to past announcers and comparing current and former wrestlers is like comparing apples and oranges. However, I have been a wrestling fan since the 80s and still watch it every Monday night. To me, it is entertaining and a way to get my mind off of the real world. That is why your company is called World Wrestling Entertainment because you are entertaining people. If people choose not to like you or the show, they should watch something else, like football. Mr Ross, I have great respect for what you do. Kevin Evansville, IN 24 yrs old

Ive been a devoted wrestling fan my entire life. I love everything about it, but I think the WWE product has become stale since the loss of WCW/ECW.Throughtout the "monday night wars" you were always on the edge of your seat wondering who is gonna jump ship or just seeing what WWE and WCW did to out do one another and it made for some very exciting times for us fans. With the gradual elevation of the TNA do you think we will get some of that excitement back?

Shawn Michaels is my favorite overall wrestler of all time, but I feel he looks like a shadow of his former self now. the man has got to gain some weight and hit the gym. He is being billed at 225 lbs but alot of the cruiserweights are bigger than him. whenever i see him bodyslamming 6'5 290lbs lance cade I'm just like "no fake." he should go back to 1997-98 era 135-145lbs as it made it more believable whenever he faced a much larger opponent (which is usually the case)do you agree? also give me heel HBK vs. Cena at WM 23 for the belt. DX '97 HBK was the greatest heel this side 80s Flair. he just a natural ****y bad guy and signs of that genius was shown in his summerslam fued with Hogan. Cena would benefit with being in the ring with him and HBK deserves one last World title reign. gimme your thoughts and any chance of this happening? thanks!

Just wondering if the WWE is planning on coming to Anchorage anytime soon. Alot of us here at Ft. Wainwright are waiting to see yall live Pfc. Joshua Sprung

I have heard that it will Taker v Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship and Cena v HHH for the WWE Championship again. I have also heard that it will be Big Show v Hogan in a 20th anneversery match of Hogan v Andre at WM 3. Is this Correct??? Jack

The WWE need to put out the best of bobby heenan(sp) dvd his interviews are the best

Hey JR, just wanted your thoughts on what Sabu is like "behind the scenes". thanks for your time and Merry Christmas

I've just been watching some Bret Hart and some Curt Hennig clips and I was wondering which of the young WWE superstars you see reaching their standards from a technical wrestling aspect and carrying the flag for ring technicians in the future. P.S. I love William Regal's no Bullsh** style of late, it makes him seem so much more brutal and it's easier to take him more seriously.

Happy Holidays JR from Northeast CT. Does the WWE have any plans on releasing to DVD any material from its old TV programs taped in PA in the late 70's, early 80's? These Chanpionship & All-Star programs were what many of us grew up with on Saturday afternoons. Often times clips are shown of various wrestlers when the WWE compiles a best of or Hall of Fame type video from these shows. These broadcasts in their entirety must exist somewhere in a vault in Stamford. Even if they began to appear on 24/7 (which we dont get here) would be a start. Many classic matches and of course the unforgettable introductions by Joe McHugh! Stay safe.

Hey Jim ross, or Mr. ross, i have one question? Why is it everyone says Chris Masters masterlock has not been broken, when John Cena broke it to keep his belt. Also i was wondering why has no one stopped Umaga from hurting people with that so-called somoan spike. I rember another superstar from back in the day who used the same move, and never hurt anybody. I do beieve his name was terry 'bam bam' gordy, if i spelled the last name wrong, i do apoligize. i have been a fan of yours since your mid-south days. i grew up in oklahoma myself and bleed crimson and cream. GO SOONERS!

How does a Savage vs. Hoga match sound at Mania!!?!?

Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year JR! Just wanted to say I received the AWA DVD for Christmas today and have already watched it. What a tremendous story culminating in Verne Gagne's indcution into the WWE Hall of Fame. The old footage is absolutley tremendous and I reccomend this DVD to any wrestling fan. JR, your stories and insights on the DVD were excellent, thanks for participating in such an excellent production.

SOME OF YOU PEOPLE ASK THE MOST RIDICULOUS QUESTIONS BTW, MERRY CHRISTMAS JIM ROSS THANKS FOR THE YEARS OF ENTERTAINMENT

What a great read! I've always enjoyed your commentary and point of view in business, so this site is a real threat. I have a few questions I would like to ask you. I don't know if you'll answer them, but here it goes... 1.) Do you think that TNA has a the upper hand right now, in terms booking great match ups and coming up with new, fresh ideas? Examples being the X- Divison, the six-sided ring, and the all steel cage ppv. 2.) Do you see another possible "Monday Night War" brewing with TNA? 3.) What are your thoughts and views on December to Dismemeber? What happen?! I felt like I was watching a poorly WCW ppv. Thats all for now. Again, thanks for what you do and I love the site! Happy Holidays!

Hope you had a nice Christmas J.R. The tribute to the troops show was very well done, and shows just how much the guys and the company care. I was just wondering what your opinion on Val Venis is and why you think he has done so little after having great success early in his career? To me he started off with all the potential in the world, but then got roadblocked with his gimmick, as it was hard to take seriously. I thought the Chief Morley stuff was great, but that didn't last too long. I just got the Brian Pillman dvd, and boy did it open my eyes. I consider myself to be a big fan of the WWE and before that the WWF from the early 90's until the present and I never realized just how good he was. He had it all, great charisma, tons of ability in the ring, and a prescense about him that really made the fans believe that what he did was "real". Do you think he might be a hall of famer someday? I think it would be great if when Wrestlemania goes back to Canada, they induct Brian, Owen Hart, the British Bulldog, Dynamite Kid, and Stu Hart, as they all started in Stampede Wrestling. Thanks for reading J.R. and have a happy New Year.
