This past weekend in Texas was a blast and with sell out crowds in San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston the fans from the Longhorn State certainly proved to be WWE fans in a Texas sized way. As I have said many times, the enthusiasm the fans bring to any event, especially a televised event, enhances any broadcast. My personal thanks to the fans in San Antonio and Dallas for helping make my job that much easier at the Rumble and on Raw. (more…)

Monday Night Raw #1 on Cable TV…Again!

Filed under: Personal, Wrestling — on

This past Monday Night, the Raw television broadcast from the sold out American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas was the #1 rated show on all of cable TV for the night. In all likelihood, Raw will probably be the top rated TV program on cable for the week. Raw did a 4.2 rating, delivered 3.8 million households, and 5.4 million persons 2+. Raw delivered a 4.0 rating or more in six consecutive quarter hours Monday night.

J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurant update: We hope to have our place open sometime in the month of April at I 35 and Main Street in Norman, Oklahoma where a Krispy Kreme was formerly located. We are working diligently on getting the menu and recipes as we feel they should be in addition to gutting the building and getting it ready to seat approximately 150 people. We have a great location and our sauces have been selling well off our site plus we have the smoking aspect of preparing the meats down to a science. The smoked turkeys, hams, pork roast, and prime rib we have available on the site are all main event level items that are cooked “low and slow” and are great for any family gathering or special occasion. We are hoping to work with grocery stores in the future but at this time the sauces and other products are only available on our site and at Louie’s Westside in Norman. I really appreciate all that have tried our products and we also appreciate your feedback. I will keep everyone posted on the progress of our place and hope that many of you get to visit it in person if you are ever in our area and that you continue to shop with us here on line for our premium sauces and exclusive merchandise. That 4:30 a.m. wake up call came awfully early Tuesday morning but that was what The King and I had to do to make our 6 a.m. flights home from Lafayette, Louisiana. Working in Lafayette brings back lots of memories of some emotional nights in southwest Louisiana when fans would literally attempt to maim the bad guys for screwing over the heroes. I have always said that a great wrestling antagonist is one that by their actions and words can motivate a fan to purchase a ticket to a live event and go to the trouble and expense of leaving their home, traveling to and from the event, parking, concessions, and not to mention the cost of the tickets. All the talent knew each market for a variety of reasons, women, food, hotel, etc as they played these towns weekly on the same nights of the week. In other words, there was a circuit or a route that was scheduled for the wrestlers to work as much as 7-8 times per week. Because there were no guaranteed, formal contracts in those days a man’s word was his bond and if you did not work you did not get paid. So wrestlers worked even when many of them shouldn’t have, due to injuries or other issues. One of the things wrestlers remember towns for is the security that was provided for them in the arenas. One of the great things about being a wrestling fan myself and interacting with wrestling fans is their passion. Passion is a great thing when it is pointed in the right direction. As many of you who read the comments can see, some of the folks who communicate with us start making assumptions, become psycho analysts, become the unofficial flag bearers of their favorite wrestlers who are allegedly being scorned or feel their favorite wrestling promotion is not endlessly lauded in this space. I have been accused of “hating” people and of being “dishonest”. Plus I am still thought of as someone who can pick up the telephone and speak with decision makers to change whatever a specific fan doesn’t like. Stop the hallucinations. Put down the crack pipe, please. (more…)

Lots of questions about video games that are in development but I am probably the wrong guy to ask. My voice over session was cancelled last week due to the ice storm Oklahoma received. Stay tuned.

Many have expressed an interest in the Legends Roundtable on WWE 24/7 and I fully expect it to continue, including taping new shows, perhaps in February. I am not sure of the status of all the panel members, but would assume most will remain in tack. Perhaps the Mike Graham chair will be used to rotate other contributors but that is only speculation. As most know I am a big football fan and with the NFL playoffs in full bloom this weekend I thought I would make some fearless predictions. We had a good week last week with our prognostications. Here goes:

The Colts at the Ravens(-4)….I have become a Ravens fan because of all the Oklahoma alumni now playing for Baltimore. Playing at home, outdoors gives the Ravens the edge here and there is no doubt that Peyton Manning will be harassed unmercifully as he attempts to find receivers, so I am going with Baltimore to take care of business. Random Thoughts and Opinion…

Busy week with New Year’s Revolution and Monday Night Raw back to back but with the events in Kansas City and St. Louis respectively the travel from here in Norman, Oklahoma was a breeze. Traveling approximately 51 weeks a year is challenging to say the least especially with airport security, the long lines and the number of seemingly first time fliers who can’t understand that when security says “take off your shoes” they really mean “take off your shoes” and that it isn’t negotiable.

Here are some of the “hot topics” about which you have commented on: (more…)
