J.R.’s First Blog of 2007

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2007 brings each of you great health and happiness. Here we go as I attempt to address some of your emails. After broadcasting Raw in Miami on Monday night and getting back to my hotel room, where I celebrated a low key, New Year’s Eve with room service, a diet Pepsi, and cable TV, I got back to the hotel and caught the 4th quarter and the overtime of the Oklahoma loss to Boise State in what many people are saying was one of the greatest college football bowl games ever televised. My congratulations go out to the Boise State team for a great effort and finishing a magical year at 13-0. Heart and effort go a long way in determining one’s success in life and the Bronco’s desire to win the Fiesta Bowl is a testament to that philosophy. Of course I am somewhat heartbroken my Sooners couldn’t pull this one out but I am not a fair weather fan and will be anxiously awaiting the 2007 season for OU which will be highlighted by a home, non league game with the Miami Hurricane in September. Miami has a magnificent football tradition and this game will no doubt get national coverage early in the season in a “must win” game most likely for both squads. I will always remember the 2007 Fiesta Bowl and will certainly remember where I was when this classic college football game was played. Again, Boise State deserves tremendous credit for their memorable victory. It’s not like I am going to boycott potatoes or stop admiring Boise’s own Torrie Wilson because Boise beat my team either. People ask me all the time about Ric Flair’s future and that’s a tough one to answer. I think Ric feels he can still be productive in the ring and certainly Flair has a magnificent legacy. My hope is that Ric doesn’t stay “too long” which can tarnish one’s image and usually comes with an injury that will nag the individual for years to come. As long as Ric is healthy I think he should still do what he loves to do and that is to wrestle. Flair is still better than the vast majority of wrestlers I see on TV these days even in his mid 50s. Is there another title run in Ric’s future? My guess would be “probably not” but who knows in today’s marketplace. I never thought K-Fed would beat John Cena either. I can’t predict a winner of the Royal Rumble but I do know the event in San Antonio is sold out which is always nice. I don’t even know who is going to be in the Rumble and how the entrants will be divided between Raw, Smackdown, and ECW. I am not up on the Sky censoring Raw issue but I SERIOUSLY doubt if the WWE does the censoring especially for the live broadcast of Raw. I do know there is some editing that goes on but not sure of the process. Did Brock Lesnar have “potential”. Absolutely and he still does. I vividly remember the Brian Pillman vs. Jushin “Thunder” Liger match in 1992 in which I worked with Jesse Ventura. Liger was amazing and had a great rep and Brian used this match to help put himself on the map. These were not giant athletes but what Pillman and Liger lacked in size, in some folks eyes, they more than made up for in athleticism and action. Any one who thinks a wrestler HAS to be around 6”5” and no less than 275 pounds to be a success simply isn’t paying attention or is completely out of touch. John Cena still a “white rapper”? I swear I have not looked at John in that light in a long time. The rapper thing seems to have dissipated. Who would be a great opponent for the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 23? There are many viable ideas but what about Hulk Hogan? Taker has never lost at ‘Mania and is Hulk the legend to pull it off? Remember, this is fantasy booking. Who are the stars of tomorrow? I don’t know. I don’t watch the amount of tape I used to, nor do I go to the developmental areas and scout talent. If I did, I could answer this question, but answering now would only be guessing. I know the WWE has some bright prospects who will be stars some day if they are allowed to stay down on the farm longer than current trend. Perhaps I will make some trips to Louisville and Atlanta in 2007 and be better able to address the new “stars of tomorrow”. In regard to stars of tomorrow, I have not seen tape of Seamus O’Shaughnessy from Ireland. He sounds interesting however. If he is anything like Fit Finley I would sign him in a heartbeat. Cryme Tyme, at the current time, feels more like an entertainment duo than a street fighting, wrestling team. I hope to see JTG and Shad in more matches in the future to be better able to access their in-ring abilities. Going back to the Kemper Arena in Kansas City as we will this Sunday for New Year’s Revolution always brings back memories to me of Owen Hart’s tragic death there. I sure miss that talented prankster. Angel I enjoyed your stories of your Mom’s exploits at wrestling events. She sounds like a colorful lady. Maybe she should have gotten into the biz. Of course I watched WCW when it went head to head with RAW. I usually caught the replay after RAW ended. I have said on numerous occasions that I think Ricky Steamboat is one of many deserving wrestlers who have earned being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Several people have input into this matter but at the end of the day the Chairman makes the final call. Interesting email about Al Costello of the Fabulous Kangaroos tag team. The Kangaroos were one of the greatest tag teams ever, I assure you. I don’t hate TNA’s 6 sided ring but I prefer the old school “squared circle”. There are laws that have been put in place since 911 that prohibit us from shipping our sauces to the UK. We are hoping to find a distribution source there with an established food distributor. I agree with a fan that Shane McMahon could have been a standout performer if he had decided to pursue that path from the “get go”. Shane is fearless and obviously has the business in his blood. One never has to worry about the effort one will receive from Shane in any match he is involved. Shane has passion which is the intangible that can make an average talent a great talent. Who hit me the hardest in my many unfortunate in-ring experiences? That one is easy...Steve Austin in Oklahoma City a couple of days after Wrestlemania 17 as I remember it. I have been kicked by cows that hurt less. I totally disagree that HBK should retire. Losing HBK off Raw would be a crippling blow to the flagship brand in my opinion. Shawn Michaels is one of the top 10 wrestlers I have EVER seen. I have heard that Sabu points to the sky as a tribute to this late uncle, the Original Sheik. My feelings on Hulk Hogan have not changed in years. I feel Hogan is an icon in the wrestling business who blazed the trail for all that followed him to make a ton of money. Hulk may not have been the best technical wrestler I ever saw but he put butts in seats and made everyone associated with the genre more money. Who else can say that? I am a HUGE Sopranos fan and after thinking about it for a moment I think Tazz would be excellent in a cameo on the “I wish it were on tomorrow” mob drama on HBO. Hey, Herman take it easy on the women’s wrestling issue. I don’t know where it is headed but young men do like to look at beautiful young women as a rule. In a perfect world these beauties would be able to wrestle but time will tell. I don’t think women’s wrestling on Raw is going away but I have seen many things occur on Raw I would not have been able to predict. I love the NwO DVD idea. It would be great to hear candid remarks from the key players in that entity. The UWF as promoted by Cowboy Bill Watts ever being a part of WWE 24/7 is solely dependant on the owners of that tape library selling the asset for a marketable price. I would love to see the UWF on the 24/7 platform that I am a big fan of. There was a young announcer on that show, I can’t think of his name, that wasn’t bad for an Okie with a Southern drawl. I will NOT disagree that the Ultimate Warrior doesn’t belong in the WWE Hall of Fame. Warrior does belong. Warrior’s acceptance speech would be “Iron Sheik Classic’. I do not think that there should be many more new titles added to the WWE brands. I think we are maxed out on titles and less is more. The more titles that there are the more watered down they become. Who brought out the best in J.R.’s commentary over the years? The King is the easiest to work with. Heyman got my legit ire up more than anyone. Cornette was so intelligent and knew what and what not to say at all times. Heenan made me laugh out loud on air many times. Gorilla was like announcing with your favorite uncle. I loved the man. Michael Hayes was a red hot bad guy who was the equal to Ventura or Piper back in Michael’s heyday and was fun to work with. Ventura was very bright but did not like to prepare which bothered me when it really shouldn’t have. Jesse was really good nonetheless. Randy Savage was a unique broadcaster in that one was never quite sure what Randy was going to say or when he did say something what did it exactly mean. Savage brought energy to the announce table. Buckeyes or Gators? Helluva game next week for the national title of college football. I have to go with the Buckeyes of Ohio State until someone proves that they can beat the men from Columbus. If Florida wins, is Boise State the national champion? I am looking forward to being a part of Wrestlemania 23 at Ford Field in Detroit, however with my track record in the WWE who knows for sure if I will make it until April 1, but I think the atmosphere is better in an arena like Madison Square Garden as it keeps the noise within the confines of the ringside area and stimulates all involved better. But it’s Wrestlemania so if you need more than that to get jacked up then you have a serious problem. I have also really enjoyed the stadiums we have done ‘Mania in over the years. Who is the bigger star, Hulk or Dusty Rhodes? Dusty himself would honestly tell you that the answer to that question is Hulk Hogan. That doesn’t mean Big Dust is a plate full of hash as the charismatic Texan will probably be inducted in the 2007 Hall of Fame if I had to place a bet today. I think the Dudleys left the WWE over a money issue, but it might have been creative. It will usually be one of the two whenever a wrestler leaves one company for another. I like dry rubs on my baby back ribs and then I will sometimes, not always, brush a little warm Bar-B-Q Sauce on them just as the ribs are finishing the smoking process. Sounds good doesn’t it? One of the reasons the shipping costs are high for our sauces is that they come in glass jars which are obviously heavier than plastic. We are addressing that matter. However, we make a premium sauce not the stuff you can buy for a buck 99 at a discount store which is mostly water and vinegar. My best wishes go out to Konnan during his current health issues. Rey Mysterio in the ring is a marvel. Simply amazing no matter his size. I disagree with some who felt that Rey is too small to be World’s Heavyweight Champion. Someone asked if WWE creative read all the emails they received from fans. Beats the hell out of me as I only see the creative team one day a week as a rule and we usually don’t get involved in long chit chat. We’ll be back later in the week with more. Thanks! J.R.

Do u think it would be a good idea for undertaker to come back totaly darkside when he comes back from his arm injury, i think it would be good if he came back and was in his grey and black again, and he should do loads of squash matches like he did in the early 90's yea that was good, also I wants psycho sid 2 come back and do his cobra clutch throw on umaga its always funny when big wrestlers pick up and throw the fatter ones and i did like it when great khali was given that samoan spike from umaga and he didnt get knocked down he just fell back into the ropes, also I still dont think the current kane man was the original masked kane his whole body shape is wrong compared 2 the masked kane and when masked kane came back b4 it was defintly a fake kane cuz the man was too short. anyway thanx
AS A LONG TIME FAN OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING IN HOUSTON, TEXAS SINCE THE DAYS OF PROMOTERS MORRISW SEIGAL AND LATER ON PAUL BOESCH, I USED TO SEE WRESTLERS THAT JUST VANISHED FROM SIGHT AFTER THE 1950S. CAN ANY ONE TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FOLLOWING WRESTLERS? TOMMY O'TOOLE, FRED FRALEY, PAT FRALEY, COL. STU GIBSON, NICK SPILLIOS, TIMMY JAMES,LEO SEITZ, FRANK MARCONI, RICKY STARR, MARIO GALENTO, "BAD BOY" HINES, TREACHEROUS PHILLIPS,JOHNNY WEAVER, SILENTO RODRIGUEZ (WAS HE REALLY DEAF?) ------ WHY DO SOME WRESTLERS TAKE BOUTS AS CONTINUAL "JOBBERS?" WHEN FRED FRALEY WAS "BIG" IN HOUSTON, HIS FATHER PAT WOULD OPEN THE MATCHES AND LOSE IN SHORT ORDER. COL. STU GIBSON WAS A TOP "JOBBER". AS WAS LEO SEITZ. ARE THESE PEOPLE HAPPY TO GO THAT ROUTE? I SURE DO MISS FRIDAY NIGHTS AT HOUSTONS' OLD SAM HOUSTON COLESEUM. WRESTLING IS STILL AROUND BUT IT'S NOT AS BIG AS IT USED TO BE UNDER THE LATE GREAT PAUL BOESCH. THANK YOU, HANK GUPTON, ANAHUAC (ANNA-WACK) TEXAS.
J.R. Please tell Vince to Unify The tag team belts Its getting really bad. John cena and Hbk come on. The Writers of the wwe have no imagination alot of my friends are getting tired of the same stuff. its not fun to watch anymore and for years its was so much fun Intercon champ meant something tag belts meant something now nothing its boring everyone is a champion
J.R. you MUST have lost your mind! 1/22/07 you said on raw that kenny dykrstra is the best 20 yr old you ever saw? come on!!!!! I know your job is to push the talent but gezzzz! You must think were really stupid! I suppose next you'll tell us cryme tyme is the best tag team you ever saw! Time to retire J.R. Your eye sight is really really bad!
Hey JR, it'd be a complete honor if you answer any of my questions, in my book you are a wrestling legend. I've been wondering, as a personal fan of TNA, how do you think guys like AJ Styles or Abyss would do in wwe? Do you think they'd be used correctly? I know I dream about matches with AJ and Rey, or AJ and RVD. I know Abyss would be an awesome addition to the ECW roster if used correctly. That man is fearless in any hardcore matches. Have you ever seen the barbed wire massacre? Awesome match with Sabu. I'm also a little curious, what're your opinions on CM Punk and Sabu's futures? It seems Sabu will be jobbed to death, and Punk might be on a downhill path to nowhere. Thank you for the time, and sorry if you've answered these questions already. I bookmarked the page but I don't always get to read it.
Hey, JR thanks for adressing my question... I really don't think that the Creative Team gets that involved with the fans... I have a feeling that the comment box is there just to fulfill the need for a fan to ventalate if they really need to. I doubt that the Creative Team really reads them... Then again, in 2005, after One Night Stand I pitched the idea that there should be a latino stable on Smackdown based on a theory of "Lattitude"(Latino Attitude) and that Super Crazy and Psychosis should be involved in it... Ironically, just weeks later, the Mexicools were born... Not really what I imagined, but still... Oh and about Rey Mysterio... I don't really think that, storywise, he has done much in the business... I remember that the only time that I was really into his character was when he debueted against Chavo and then made that leap off the cage at the end of the night... I think that he's too passionate to carry out a storyline... Usually his storylines involve something bad happening to him so the fans have to pity him... Just my two cents.
JR, Great column, like your honesty. I have some comments and a question about Vince and the way he operates. A lot of people say he is out of touch with reality, that he ignores the fans and what they want to see, thinks low-brow comedy is funny, etc. I think that ever since he took WWE public, he tries to justify the fans' willingness to accept and embrace his warped sense of what wrestling and sports entainment is today by adding more PPVs, more international tours, more DVDs, more merchandising, etc, etc, all in an attempt to increase worldwide revenues. I don't think shareholders can blame him for doing that but I think he is willing to sacrifice the North American audience for the more lucrative international audience that doesn't have the same appreciation of what wrestling should be and doesn't care as much what they are being presented with. What do you think it would take for him to change the way he operates, specifically the way he presents wrestling/sports entertainment? Perhaps a major competitor like UFC (or TNA down the road) who can steal precious PPV buys? A ratings plunge for RAW that causes USA to drop it? If he believes fans are willing to accept every lame skit he can think of, every dumb storyline, every big man who can't wrestle, every D-list celebrity, he has another thing coming. The bubble will burst eventually, particularly in North America.
he JR i have a couple of questions for you 1. do you ever consider bringing back brock lesnar back to wwe john cena needs a challenge in that would suit both wrestlers i think? 2. what will happen to the rest of the spirit squad i think they all have talent and any of the four of them would make a good challenge for the tag titles on SMACKDOWN 3. what will happen to the ecw television belt and also the ecw tag team championships? and lastly a get well soon to HHH now is the time for shawn to turn his back on HHH just like HHH did with shawn when shawn was injured (x-pac would be a good choise)
Mr.Ross i love your new blog
Just wanted to say whats up Jr. Happy New Year and your doing a great job on Raw
I hope HHH has a speedy recover, and comes back madder than hell and beats everyone down. As for Shawn I guess he needs to call his old partner God back up and pray for help. Cause as I see it, Ding Dong DX is dead, DX is dead, the wicked Dx is dead. VKM will have a field day with this. HHH is much better a loner and a heel. Shawn is better when he is not on T.V. Maybe we will get to some younger talent rise to the occasion and fill in the void of losing HHH. What do you think, good ol J.R.
Dear Mr. Ross, Hi this is my first time posting and I have to say that there is so much hypocrisy between heel and face turns. I'm not trying to be critical against you but their are some storyline directions I have a hard time understanding. For example(this happened in 2004 but it's an example of events that always seem to be continuous through today), Gene Snitsky hit Kane with a chair and Kane fell on Lita. When Gene said it wasn't his fault, it really wasn't! It was clearly an accident but somehow Kane became the face and Snitsky was the heel. Plus, Kane set you on fire not even a year before that and even though you weren't backing up Kane, you were still playing the face against Snitsky. Then when Carlito turned on Chris Masters after Wrestlemania, it was clearly classified under my radar as Carlito turning on Chris Masters which would make Chris the face but then Jerry Lawler was asking why Carlito did that to Masters and you were saying that Masters blew the tag title match and deserved it. I guess what I'm trying to say(or ask) is why the writing team couldn't come up with any better scenarios to make these guys rightfully become heels and faces and in turn the announce team won't seem like hypocrites. I don't blame you Mr Ross. I blame the writers because it comes off kind of silly sometimes. Thank you for allowing me to post my opinion and I hope what I'm saying makes some sort of sense to you.
Hey JR. I didn't get to see the PPV last night but from what I read it was great. I hate hearing that HHH was injured and hope it isn't something that requires surgury, either way I wish him a speedy recovery. On that note, while it may be just a rumor, I read also that some young superstar (aka envious jerk) was happy to hear that "The Game" was injured so that others might get a chance at the spotlight. If this incident WAS true then it's a pretty lousy thing to say. I understand that there are a few who don't like HHH, especially since he's married to the bosses daughter and they feel like he gets more attention because of it, (by the way I once worked at a place where I was married to the bosses daughter and it's not as great as you think...oh lord the pressure!!!), and I understand also the whole freedom to say what one wants but still that kind of thing needs to kept to oneself and not broadcast to where it would add fuel to the fire. Hopefully most in the lockerroom are over the whole marriage issue. Maybe if that young superstar works harder and develops mic skill that would be on par with HHH's then he too will shine. Also I agree with John above. The tag team division in the WWE is getting better. Hopefully Joey Mercury will recover quickly and MNM will get back in the heat of things. You know they remind me of The Fabulous Ones in some repects...kinda that late 80's feel to them. I too am tired of the whole VKM thing. TNA, while a great organization with great talent and a show I enjoy watching, really needs to quit worrying about WWE and do their own thing. By the way I heard that you used to do alot of cooking for the roster at the shows. Do you still do that?
What do you think about the direction of the WWE as far as the current story lines go? It seems to me they have been a little boring as of late. I personally feel they could have done a much better job with the Cena Umaga feud than what has been done so far. Hopefully it is not over so it has a chance to get better. Also when a feud fails who gets the majority of the blame is it the writers or do the wrestlers take some of the heat as well. One last question if HHH is really injured and WWE loses their top preformer for the next 8-10 months is there anyone in your opinion who can be brought into the main event picture to help take his place. Kind of like what Jericho did when he got injured the first time, or do you think HHH will stay on TV if he can’t wrestle?
hey guy, just wanted to say i always enjoy your commentary. it's nice to have some background and information beyond the storylines. keep up the good work.
Hey J.R., I was just wondering if you think the current WWE Tag Team division will continue to grow. Tag Team matches, when done right, are the most entertaining to me. With teams like Benjamin and Haas, The Hardys, MnM, if they return, Cade and Murdoch, etc., the WWE tag team division is shaping up to be a big attraction like in the early years of 2000. Love you blog dude, thanks for the read!
hi jr. i was wondering something about chris jericho. the man has always been one of (if not the) best talents on the roster. from his infinite charisma, that in my opinion actually puts the rock and austin to shame, to his amazing ring work that gave us watchable matches against opponents against a wwe scott steiner and a reckless 2003 jeff hardy, he was an amazing preformer. but after his undisputed title run (i think we’ll both agree that was horribly booked), he was never really in the main scene. instead, he would be putting over newer talented wrestlers such as shelton, and less talented wrestlers like john cena. he made every single wrestler he faced looked good. of course in his last few months he was in the title run again, losing to someone he beat and put over years ago. i don’t understand, why was he stuck in the midcard so much? face or heel, jericho was always one of the most over people on the roster. where, in your opinion, would he be today if he was still around?
Hello Jim Ross , this is my first time reading your great thoughts and I'll definatly be reading them now each week. To start of I hope you and your family have a happy New Year and that the WWE in 2007 is bigger and better than any other year before it. I totally agree about the Voo Kin Mafia and the way that they try to bash the WWE to get publicity for TNA. I find this a very nasty shoot by TNA which makes me not want to watch their program. I LOVE the WWE since I was little , and I only occasionally watch TNA - But unless the VKM stops the bashing, I will not watch it. Triple H and Shawn Micheals have had more fame and have got more talent in one finger than the VKM have put together. Also , does Vince McMahon actually take notice of TNA - I hope he does because I really want Vince to get the best out of his company by having competition from others. People seem to forget that the WWE has amazing young athletes ( Jeff Hardy, Johnny Nitro , Carlito , Shelton Benjamin, Ken Kennedy ETC ) - I don't want to see the likes of The Great Khali, Mark Henry or Visera.
Mr.Ross, I was wondering if you have any news on why Armstrong is Ecw commentating. Is vince warming him up for Tazz's spot or is it just in case Tazz doesn't resign? If you no nothing, what are your thoughts? Glennie D

Hi jr i am from australia i ve got 3 question for you 1: do u think chris benoit will ever be world or wwe champion again, because in my opinion he is one of the greatest wrestlers to ever step foot in the squared circle 2: on wikipedia it says that scott hall is contracted under a legends program, just want to know would he have a possible angle or feud in the future 3: in your opinion do you think sting will eveer wrestle in the wwe thanks and i love reading your blogs happy new year
So many questions, so little time: 1) Considering the ECW brand's long history of excellent tag teams, such as the Dudley Boys, the Eliminators, the late Public Enemy, RVD & Sabu, Jinsei Shinzaki & Hayabusa, and the FBI - do you think we might see, either in the distant or not-too-distant future, the return of the ECW Tag Team Titles? I realize that you did say that the addition of further belts could deflate the value of the belts already in "circulation"[1], but on the other hand, adding a tag belt to a brand that is without one should not cause any significant damage (and could certainly give the tag division a shot in the arm). 2) As far as DVD collections go, considering some of the great feuds from throughout the history of the WWE, ECW, and WCW, like the McMahon/Austin Feud, Raven/Dreamer feud, Flair/Sting feuds, and the Sting's Squadron/Dangerous Alliance feud, are there any plans to release any DVDs using that material, either collections from those eras (80's & 90's) or as "Feud Packs" focusing on material from those feuds (perhaps in 3-disc sets, like the Hart, Flair, and Rhodes collections)? I'd certainly snap them up, if they were made available. 3) I was watching Smackdown this evening, and couldn't see Gregory Helms' Green Lantern tattoo. Did he have it removed, or was I just not looking hard enough? 4) What book are you reading at the moment? Assuming, of course, you have the time, with all those many hats you wear.[2] I'm afraid I'll have to beg your pardon for the footnotes. As a fan of Terry Pratchett's novels, I'm afraid I've subconsciously taken on his habit of putting humorous remarks (or, in my case, semi-pathetic attempts at humorous remarks) in footnotes. [1] My God, I sound like an economist! [2] All, curiously, black and wide brimmed... (*looks from left to right in mock-suspicion*)
JR, I was taking a look through a UK based fan site for Hulk Hogan and one of the things I saw in the rumor mill is the possibility of Hulk Hogan working with The Big Show at WrestleMania XIII. It's been 20 years since Hulk Hogan bodyslammed and pinned Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania III in Detroit and it would be a great tribute to that legendary match and even bigger legends. Nonetheless, with it being the 20 year anniversary of that main event, not having Hulk Hogan involved at Wrestlemania would be a huge suprise. You were talking about Hall of Fame selections in your blog, and in my opinion I believe that Bruno Sammartino and Bob Backlund should be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Bruno Sammartino was probably in my opinion the greatest WWE Champion of all time, holding the title for 8 years in his first reign and four in his second, a feat no one came close to matching in over a decade until Hulk Hogan held the title for four years in the 1980s, and my other pick is former two time WWE Champion Bob Backlund. I liked his style, thought he was an outstanding mat wrestler in his prime, and thought it was great when he won the title for the 2nd time at the age of 43. Those are my thoughts and thanks for reading. Respectfully, Randy
Hi Mr. Ross What is up with Ric Flair calling out Kenny Dykstra after getting rolled up for the second time? Did he forget how he cheated and rolled up most members of the spirit squad a few weeks ago? And how about Mr. Flairs nickname as the dirtiest player in the game? or how his signature moves include thumb to the eyeball, testicular claw, and the low blow. He seems to be hypocritical towards young Kenny who was just being smart to not shake the hand of the dirtiest player in the game. It seems like everyone who extends Flair respect ends up getting the low blow someday like Batista found out.
Hello, Mr. Ross! My name is Tiago and I'm from Portugal. I've got to tell you, I agree 100% with your thoughts. I personally feel insulted by the VKM insults to the WWE... those S.O.B's are going to look like the preverbial crimson mask! WWE 4 life! Eddie Guerrero (1967-2005 R.I.P) Viva la Raza!
I was a big wwe fan, but after Monday night Raw where K-Fed ( who the heck is this guy) beat John Cena in a match, I'm no longer a fan. Wrestling is not what it use to be. I'm an old fashion kind of guy and if yor saling a big match with Umaga and John Cena why would you have a nobody beat the Champ. Now I don't want to buy the pay per view because its hard for me to think that John Cena can beat Umaga. So I wont waste my money on watching WWE pay per views anymore. But thank you for all the great years of great wrestling. Losing one fan is nothing for the WWE. JR your great and I've been a fan of yours since the AWA days.Good Luck With the WWE.
Hello JR and Happy New Year, I've become more and more troubled by the direction of the WWE and it's intent to push the "big man" in wrestling more than the actual good wrestlers. I believe Batista is not a very good wrestler at all, in fact I find him downright boring in the ring. He is not as strong as he is made out to be and his offense, pacing and mic skills leave a lot to be desired. Why is it that someone like Batista can get a push from management and the creative staff, but someone who is unbelievabley talented like Shelton Benjamin does not get the equal attention? I know his mic skills are lacking somewhat, but you can't tell me that Batista's mic skills are much better if any. Management and creative really seem to cater to Batista and try to hide his shortcomings? Why is there such a discrepency? WWE seems to be leaning more towards just entertainment, and less wrestling. Am I in the minority that really just appreciates good wrestling over male soap opera drama? Saying all that, I still respect the fact that I'm sure Batista works very hard, and wrestiling is not an easy thing to do, he's definitely more talented than me and 95% of the rest of the world. It's not Batista hating as much as it is a general question about creative direction. By the way, I do not include Cena in the "big man" category. I think Cena is a great wrestler, and if anyone disagrees, go back and watch those matches with Edge. The pacing and action were outstanding, and you will see two guys that really know what they are doing in the ring. If people don't see that in Cena, than they don't know much about wrestiling.
What about a 30-60 min. iron man match...inside Hell in a Cell. in your opinion, would that even be possible to pull off?
Greetings from Scotland Ive been a long time fan of WWE but lately ive been put off by it and ive been watching alot of Ring of Honor,Pro Wrestling Noah and Dragon Gate. What do u think of ROH,Noah and Dragon Gate if u have had time to took a look at them and is there any stars from the 3 promotions ive listed u would like to see in a WWE ring?

Also i agree with one of the above post there should be a rise and fall of the nwo dvd. Here are my ideas for dvds Rise & fall of WCW Best Of Mr Perfect Greatest Tag Teams Dvd Best Of The Rock Chris Jericho Dvd Also i think we need a best of Trish dvd & a best of lita dvd too
Good Morning JR... I am a huge middle-eastern WWE fan for years and I want to get your thoughts on The Rock current life in Hollywood and if you think he will ever show his face in WWE again..
Yeah...I got a comment. Do you agree with the Randy Orton overpush? This whole "Rated RKO" experiment isn't fooling smark fans. Orton wasn't able to get over as a single's heel, even working alongside Hulk Hogan and Edge is now carrying him on his back every week. Why is a pretender like this pushed to no end while a Shelton Benjamin, a guy that should be doing CLASSIC Iron Man and submission matches with the likes of Benoit, Mysterio, Finlay, and CM Punk held back?
Hey JR, hows it going? From where I sit Taz is one of the best wrestlers to ever lace a pair of boots (maybe im bias because im such a huge old school ECW fan) and I was just wondering if he ever plans to get back into the ring? Also (and more of a comment then a question) being a TNA fan im really starting to think they are taking the VKM thing way to far and look like idiots.
My other one or two got deleted. I have not checked my e-mail for any responses yet, so perhaps I shall do that in a bit. Anyways, please speak to Vince about how much WWECW has been letting down the original fans. The way Sabu and RVD have been jobbing to steroid freaks like Lashley and Test is just downright pathetic and I am sure even you know that. I am begging you...please, bring back Heyman.
JR, Who in your opinion are the top five guys yet to really break out that have the potential to? My thoughts are Rene Dupree, CM Punk, Matt Hardy, Paul Burchill and Charlie Haas. Also can you ever see Scott Hall and Sean waltman and kevin nash ever returning for a brief NWO run?
JR. As a wrestling fan the grew up in the 'territory era' I miss the feuds. A good feud between wrestlers could go on for months or even years like the Von Eric's/ Freebirds, Flair/Race, Gagne/Mad Dog Vachon, etc. Seems like story lines these days last a couple weeks if that - what happened? Also I remember the days (and miss them) when the whole locker room would come running out to join a particular nasty fight - now you get a few "security" guys getting knocked around - what kind of excitment is that. Next time Rated RKO or Umaga is beating the snot out of someone wouldn't it be nice to see 20 or so wrestlers (both baby faces and heels) come running out - now that would be a true Slobberknocker!
While Rey was not too small to be champion, the way he was booked made him into a farse. To be squashed by Khali and consistently lose non-title matches, it severely de-valued the title.
Gday JR, I just like to say that I love watching wrestling, just the commitment and skill is just great. I have only been watching the WWE for 6 years and I thought it was great with the story lines and the drama. The in ring action was pretty good to the big athletes and the big moves. My favourite superstar was Chris Jericho. I just liked his ability and his funny charisma. But after a while I started to get a bit bored of the same old routine of moves and story lines. That's when I saw the light of TNA. Now I know there are a lot of people on here that have asked your thoughts about TNA, but I beleive that they are the real deal, they are more innovative, they actually focus on what people pay money to see and that is wrestling. Give them a couple more years and I believe that they could be the next WCW. I mentioned before about how my favourite wrestler was Chris Jericho. That now has changed to AJ Styles, and I believe that when he didn't sign a WWE developmental deal just after the WCW sale was one of the best decisions to make because there is no way he would be able to do the things he does now because of the way the WWE ban certain moves. Thanks for taking the time in reading my email. I'd love to hear any thoughts. Cheers, Mark P.S - When you got burned by Kane a few years ago, that was the best looking stunt double I've ever seen. Keep Up the good work!
Have you spoken to Triple H or Shawn Michaels about the VKM situation? What ae their thoughts about the whole million dollar challenge? Do the members of VKM ans DX have any personal animosity towards each other?
it is a bigger joke than David Arquette winning the title... at least he pinned Bischoff in that dumb match, the actual champion Cena, may not have lost the title, but lost all credibility by losing to a loser like K-Fed
hi JR im from Melbourne, Australia do you know when the WWE will be coming back, last i heard, they were planning on coming this year in November, but only with a house show, but we want to see you at a TV Taping in Melbourne, if you can, on behalf of all the australian fans, could you pass on a word to one of the people who make up the tours? Thanks
With the new Dallas Cowboy stadium being completed in 2009, and it will be able to hold over 80,000 fans, will we ever get WRESTLE MANIA in the great city of Dallas, Texas?
I have been a long-time lover of wrasslin, no matter what my 'peers' might say, it's like a soap opera but with less bad acting and better fighting! I am a mite disappointed with the ECW brand though. I remember the bingo hall days, and while it wasn't the best set-up in the world, the crowd could pop in an instant! OH MY GOD!! Haha. Watching Sci-Fi nowadays though it feels like I'm watching a Heat taping, even with Bobby Lashley. Keep up the good work, and I'm looking forward to the eventual return of MISTERRRR KENNEDY!!! ...Kennedy...!!
Hello JR. You say that you don't excpect any more titles to be added to the current WWE shows, as the titles would become "watered down". Do you think that there is currently enough talent to cover all the titles as it is, especially now with 3 brands? I wish you all the best in the new year.
I always enjoy reading your blogs JR. They're not only interesting, but they tell us what kind of guy you are. You read and answer a LOT of messages! That's true heart! Now, speaking of heart, when it comes to this business, I have all the heart in the world. I have wanted to be a part of creative for a long time. I feel the key to be in this business, as far as creating, is it's history. I think about wrestling so much (I'm almost 30 by the way), that I'm pretty sure how it works. WWE is constantly creating history. I don't mean to sound blasphemous, but I see WWE history as it's own version of the bible. Am I close? I am currently coming up with a giant poster (I'm an artist)for Wrestlemania in 2009. I will be compiling all of the WWE Champions and World Heavyweight Champions that have appeared at Wrestlemania over the years. It will be a collage of all of the titleholders surrounding the logo "WRESTLEMANIA 25: YEAR OF THE CHAMPION". It would be very cool to see all of the Champions (who are still with us) reintroduced at the 25th Anniversary. Again, history for the fans young and old (The Oscars did it a few years ago). Anyway, I plan to travel to Titan Towers to deliver my idea in person when I finish it. If I need to know anything before I start the project (like Vince not even taking the time or interest in it)please let me know and let me know what you think of the idea. Thank you again JR! Dr. Kevin
JR, I've been a fan of the WWE since 1990, and my number 1 favorite is The Undertaker. Anyways, I have 2 questions. Do you think these superstars such as Ken Patera, Ludvig Borga, and Ricky Steamboat will be in the classic superstar figures line in the near future, and my 2nd question is Ken Patera was mentioned alot during the 2006 Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Do you think that he will be a good person to be inducted in the 2007 Hall of Fame? Bobby Heenan would definitely be a good choice to induct him in. Thanks
Hey JR Ive been wondering when the wwe will inducted Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig in the wwe hall of fame. He was a great performer a great athlete and a great wrestler. In my mind I think he is the greatest wrestler of all time to have never won the wwe title bar none. He was and still is my favorite wrestler of all time next to Jeff Hardy and I think it is about time Curt Hennig got his rightful spot in the wwe hall of fame. Also I have an idea, at WrestleMania 23 have Hulk Hogan vs. The Great khali kind of like the Hogan Andre at WM 3. That would be great. Good luck on Raw
Hey JR. If Sting were to ever get inducted into the WWE HOF, who would be a perfect fit to induct him? Seeing as he and HBK are the only two wrestlers who have never jumped shipped from their resspective companies.
Hey JR great column. Just a quick question and thought. Will Randy Savage ever become a member of the Hall of Fame. For a time back in the late 80's early 90's after Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage was the second most popular wrestler in the business. Also here's just a quick idea, I think one of the Matches at Wrestlemania should be a four way iron man match. The one who scores the most pinfalls out of the four is the winner. Just an a thought. Thanks and keep up the great work. Ryan
Alot of people say that "Kenny" maybe the next Owen Hart. Personally I find it offensive that anyone could compare Owen to that peppy little male cheerleader And I dont see him being "The next Owen Hart". Frankly I dont even see him being a good technical wrestler and just because he looks slightly (and I use the word slightly very loosely) like Owen does NOT mean that their the same person. I just needed to get that off my chest.
