Thanks to everyone for the thoughtful birthday wishes. Reaching the “double nickle” today is an accomplishment considering the health issues I have been fortunate enough to overcome especially with my colon cancer scare of 2005. That’s why I never take good health for granted and I hope you don’t either. Our health is truly one of the greatest gifts we can have. I get lots of emails about legend’s matches and I must say that most legends would not want to be put in a position to have to deliver a match that would be considered close to what they were remembered for. Example, I personally would love to see Ric Flair wrestle Ricky Steamboat on a big stage but I don’t know how younger fans would react to the match and if Ric and the Dragon could replicate, even remotely, some of their classics from the 80s. Expectations for this particular match might be unfairly high but again I would pay money to see these two go at it one more time. And no, I have no idea if this match will ever occur except in the imaginations of many of us. I would not want to see these two greats in a match such as the legend’s battle royal at Wrestlemania a few years ago although it was “entertaining”. I am all for documenting the past as WWE 24/7 does on many of your cable systems. I am an avid viewer of WWE 24/7 and would be even if I were not a WWE employee. I wish more WWE employees would watch this effort and learn our business’ past. I love the classic material and encourage any young person who wants to get in the business or is just getting started in the business to watch as well. Fundamental skills and the art of physical story telling are still as applicable today as ever and some of the industry’s best talents are featured in their prime on WWE 24/7. I am under the impression that the panel of legends will do more round table discussions in the future. I hope I am a part of it as it was a blast to sit around and tell stories about some of wrestling’s most colorful stars with some colorful personalities. The K-Fed appearance on RAW got the WWE a ton of outside the box publicity which is a nice bonus especially heading into yet another pay per view. Obviously, the culprit in the Cena loss to K-Fed was Umaga who Cena faces on Sunday in K.C. at New Year’s Revolution. I think K-Fed has the potential to make a viable manager if he chose to focus on the art of being one. Hey, someday K-Fed may need the cash, who knows? Having the gift of being easy to dislike is a true blessing for a wrestling villain. Travis in Boise, I applaud your Broncos and their season. I plan on watching the game today from start to finish. I guess I am a glutton for punishment. Boise should be proud of their team and a 13-0 season does wonders for recruiting. The Sooners only have 7 seniors on their active roster so OU will be good next year even if Adrian Peterson goes to the NFL which is almost a gimme. Plus we have to develop a QB but that is another issue. I am happy for you and I plan on even eating some potatoes later today. Congrats and enjoy the win. Speaking of Boise State, I have been asked if Tazz was taking shots at me on ECW Tuesday night when he was talking about an “upset” during the tag team match. Tazz and I talk football often when we see each other and I am relatively certain Tazz was provided that info to illustrate “upset” and for others to have a little fun with my “Sooner misery” over the Fiesta Bowl loss. It’s no big deal and I have no issues with Tazz or anyone else over this. By the way, I enjoyed Tazz and Brad Armstrong’s banter on ECW. I hope to hear more of it. My comments about my many announcing partners seemed to draw some interest from some of you. I can get into that subject in more depth at any time and will certainly include many “announcer stories” if I ever write a book. I had forgotten about working with Terry Taylor years ago, no offense to TT, and as I recall Terry had a nice gift of gab and did a good job on commentary but his heart was in the ring not behind a mic. Also, someone asked about my thoughts on the broadcasting work of the late Lord Alfred Hayes and of Sean Mooney. Alfred was a priceless character more often than not and was a great comedic figure in the WWE back in the day. Many old schoolers will also remember Lord being a great wrestling villain with the ability to cut a scathing promo that was not comedic at all. Mooney, who I did not know well, was solid in his role, had the look the WWE covets, but did not seem to ever truly have his heart in the product which may have been evidenced by his leaving the business sooner than most. That’s my observation of Mooney but again I did not know him well and may be off base with that assessment. Easy E…I have left the WWE 3 times since 1993 if anyone is keeping score or if it really matters. All were legit but did not kill me or my career. There is no secret that I am not the perfect image the WWE would prefer to see doing Monday Night Raw, but I can only work with what tools I have and the hand I have been dealt. I assure you that if I could have NOT had two bouts of Bells palsy I would not complain, but my Oklahoma drawl will be what it is…me. The “War Tony” on the first J.R. action figures was an obvious mistake by the manufacturer and not many were made. I think I have one or two of them somewhere in a box. Blah, Blah miss interpreted my saying I was not creative team material as a negative. I am not forbidden to speak to anyone on the creative team and to the contrary am encouraged to do so. However, Mondays are usually so busy that no one has time to engage in long chit chat unless they are loafing and I don’t see much loafing prior to Monday Night Raw. And yes, I have been involved in creative since the Mid South Wrestling days but I have done my tours of duty in that area and am happy with my role as it is at the present time. Speaking of Mid South, someone mentioned that Ene Watts wanted $5M for the Mid South library which is news to me. I do not believe that to be true and the number sounds very high. The WWE has attempted to purchase this asset and perhaps will be able to finalize a win/win deal for both parties in the future. Mid South was physical and hard core long before ECW was even an after thought and also launched or enhanced the careers of some of the most prominent names in the business. Cowboy Bill Watts was a task master, a Vince Lomardi type intimidator, who was a brilliant strategist and produced some awesome one hour, weekly, episodic TV programs back in the day. Cowboy had a gift of being able to keep his finger on the pulse of the ticket buyers i.e. the fans. I have 100s of Cowboy stories that I will get into someday. If any one is interested in Watts’ legacy one should purchase his book, “The Cowboy and the Cross” which I enjoyed a great deal and in which Bill tells some great stories of his life and times. Watts was a wild man in his day and once urinated off his 12th floor balcony of the CNN Center instead of taking the short walk down the hall to the men’s room. Cowboy also enjoyed brutalizing individuals who wanted “tryouts” to be wrestlers. I have seen some amazing in-ring situations after our TV tapings in Shreveport over the years involving the big Cowboy punishing young wannabes to the point they urinated themselves. Good grief, I used urinate twice in the same paragraph. Sorry. Also, to answer another Watts’ question, I seriously doubt if Watts would have booked K-Fed back in the day. Lawler/Kaufman would not have happened in Watts’ territory either, in my opinion. For the record, when an athlete is injured in a match, one of the first people to know it is the referee. That particular function is an important part of the referee’s job. I have been asked to comment several times on the whereabouts of Eric Bischoff. I know that Eric has a variety of projects outside wrestling in the works that is keeping him busy. As far as Eric coming back on Raw, I don’t know the status of that matter but it would not surprise me if he did. Eric’s TV persona is easy to dislike which as I have said is a gift for a wrestling antagonist. That is akin to some fans comparing Jonathan Coachman to Mr. McMahon which isn’t really fair. Mr. McMahon is very easy to dislike while Coachman, with years less experience, has to work at it more. I do think Coachman is getting much more comfortable in his role which should lead to bigger and better things for him. No, not all my memories of Kansas City are bad. Far from it. It is just that when asked of my most memorable experience in K.C. the Owen Hart tragedy will always pop back in my mind. I think most folks can understand that. K.C. is a great town with really good Bar-B-Q and was home base for the great Harley Race for many years. What’s not to like? Sigh…I ignore ALL the good questions and comments? Not hardly. Just the stupid ones or the ones that have been addressed over and over. For the record, Scott Hall was released per a directive from up top as I did not go into business for myself. I happen to like Scott and think he has one of the brightest minds in the business I have ever been around. However, at that time in his life it was better, in the opinion of many including myself, that Scott did not need to be on the road with the WWE. To go into all the personal details really isn’t the thing to do nor is this the place for that info. I am not sure what the worst things I have seen on TV wrestling shows are but yours truly being in matches would be on the list. Plus, Robocop from the WCW days, a scaffold match from WCW (not the Midnight Express match vs. the Road Warriors) where, I think, 3 of the 4 guys involved in the match were afraid of heights, and the Kennel from Hell would all be on the list. Seeing a wrestler who wore yellow tights have a bowel explosion, so to speak, on an old LeRoy McGuirk Championship Wrestling show I did in the 70s was quite an experience as well and yes it made air in its entirety. Mr. McGuirk was my color commentator and was totally blind and he could not understand why the studio audience was laughing so much and I couldn’t tell LeRoy on the air for obvious reasons. Regarding why Howard Finkle isn’t on TV ring announcing is a question for someone else. Fink is the greatest ring announcer ever and can still get the job done as good as he ever could when provided the opportunity. Fink should be the next “announcer” to go into the WWE Hall of Fame. I have never heard Ted Dibiase speak in a church but certainly will if Teddy is ever in the Oklahoma area. I think that Ted’s calling is his ministry and I am proud of him for following his heart and not making life decisions based on a paycheck. The Million Dollar Man should be Hall of Fame bound some day too. Dibiase is another Mid South alumni. I am VERY anxious to read the Bret Hart autobiography. I would suspect it will be a thick book if Bret is to tell most of the great stories of his life. Bret is a great storyteller and this book should really be something. I have great respect for Bret and wish I could see him more often. My advise to beginners in wrestling…...be in great physical shape and don’t look like you workout part time and work full time at the donut shop, respect and understand the history of the business, study video tapes of the greats of the game and attempt to understand what each did individually that made them special, never be late to practice, talk less and listen more, and don’t be afraid to put in extra work. This is a 7 day a week deal at a beginner’s stage of the game. Someone suggested that the WWE tag titles all be unified. I don’t know if that is a bad idea but I doubt that it would be considered as it goes against the brand seperation the WWE seems committed to. I am not saying it would not work, but it is not likely to happen. Tim…one of the reasons I don’t answer every email personally when they are addresed on our site is time, or lack thereof. I am the sole provider of creative content for the site. Sometimes I have time to do more on the site but often times I don’t. So it is a time issue. But, Tim, don’t take it personally. I do read all the emails and then, Tim, I try and answer the ones that have not been addressed or that I can provide new info. Thanks for reading our site, Tim, and for bringing up this point so I could clarify it. I am only joking with you but the bottom line is that it is a time issue. Remember, try and keep your comments short, get right to the point and ask your question and then editorialize if you choose. Those of you reading can also respond to each other if you care to. Have a great day and thanks to those of you that have become customers. Without customers, we don’t exist. Ah, such is life. Again, thanks for the birthday wishes. J.R.

WHY O WHY??? WHY DID THEY HAVE TO BURY C.M. PUNK BY LOSING TO HOLLY??
WWE/TNA backstage story lines, MIC skills, Should ECW go MMA? TNA has mystery in their storylines (Vince Russo ?), why doesn't WWE push more Wrestler/DIVA or HLA backstage storylines (Coach & Victoria?)? New wrestlers lack MIC skills. What was the knock on Derrick King from Memphis Wrestling? Maybe the WWE should grab wresters that have decent MIC potential even if they're not 7'3". New Era Fighting sounds like a good business idea/model but they appear to be starting from scracth. Could the ECW brand use MMA (to some extent) or this busness model to separate it from all other brands? See below... New Era Fighting signals the new age of real fighting," New Era Fighting president Ron Kort explained. "Picture UFC meets WWE " entertainment, drama, sexiness and violence together. "
you know i love wrestling and one day i will be a wwe hall of famer. But you know where i live people don't care much about wrestling and im going to show um how important it is to me. If any of you love wrestling email the Alabama public school board and tell them to put wrestling teams in public alabama schools. They put boring football in them!
JR, I am an old school wrestling fan from way way back when, I saw my first match in 1966, I grew up in Kansas City going to Memorial Hall on Thursday nights and I remember seeing some of the greatest legends in wrestling history. I remember when Harley Race had a manager, when Paul Ellering debut against Bruiser Brody, Jesse the Body and Tank Patton. I remember when the UWF came to be with a young announcer named Jim Ross. I loved Crockett Promotions I thought they innovated wrestling with Starrcade, Bunkhouse Stampede, Halloween Havoc and the other PPV's. There was one wrestler I always wonder about and that is Col. Buck Robley could you tell me what ever happened to him?
Cut the PPV Fat There was a time in the not-so distant past where I could quickly rattle off the main events to every pay-per-view the WWF had ever put on. Now this isn't the type of skill that would win me a date but it was nice to know that I could trace the history of the WWF in a few minutes. And for full disclosure, this was something I did when I ran cross country or just ran to get into shape - it took my mind off of the crippling pain in my legs as I pushed my body to its limits. What's the point of this little tangent? That time has long since passed. No longer can I rattle off the main event of every WWE pay-per-view from the last year - heck, I may not even be able to name all the shows. The pay-per-view market has become so over-saturated that the WWE has three different "brands" putting on shows throughout the year that it seems like - and at times, it actually is true - that there is a pay-per-view every Sunday. I began thinking about the saturation of pay-per-views in wrestling last week as I was reading an article on boxing and its decline for the past ten or so years. One of the reasons cited for boxing's decline is the fact that nearly every title fight, regardless of the combatants, has made its way to pay-per-view. In the past, there were several television outlets including ESPN on Fridays, USA on Tuesdays, network television on weekends and premium channels like HBO and Showtime that would show fights on a consistent basis. Of those, only HBO and Showtime remain but in very limited numbers. Those fights that would have ended up on USA's Tuesday Night Fights are now on pay-per-view for $30. The point is simple - the average boxing fan doesn't have enough money to follow the sport year-round and has lost interest except for the 'event' fights. It's almost startling to read something like that and see the obvious comparison to pro wrestling. What shows do the average wrestling fan pay for? They pay for WrestleMania. They pay for the Royal Rumble. They may pay for SummerSlam. And that's it. Those are the 'event' shows. Those are the shows that have been part of a wrestling fan's life for 20 years. It reminds them why they are wrestling fan. When the Royal Rumble match starts, as a fan, you're not only excited because of what's happening in front of you but how what will happen instantly becomes part of history. It's why millions of people watch the Rose Bowl each New Year's Day because it's part of a shared history. It's why millions watch the Masters every April and why some of those millions don't watch golf any other weekend of the year. It's why with almost 20 pay-per-views a year, the WWE is drawing buyrates for most of their shows that could be classified as 'embarrassing'. There are about 150-200,000 people buying those minor shows like Unforgiven or New Year's Resolution, while the Royal Rumble does at least double that and WrestleMania does roughly five times that. The thing is the WWE has found a successful formula to make just enough money to make all those extra pay-per-views worth it. When you have even a poor buyrate of 150,000…well that's like selling out two dome shows in one night. Why would the WWE ever give that up? That's almost free money from wrestling fans who are quite simply addicted to it and don't care what's presented as that month's 'main event'. To return to the boxing analogy, pay-per-view in that sport once far outnumbered any other pay-per-view numbers because only the big matches were shown. As time went on, rematches became more prevalent, there were questionable decisions and outcomes and boxing's pay-per-view market became overwrought. In wrestling terms, boxing gave fans nothing but screwjob endings for years and the well dried up. I believe the WWE is dangerously close to crossing that precipice because the number of pay-per-views almost necessitates feuds that never end and matches that don't reach satisfying conclusions. I have written before about how wrestling no longer provides closure to angles, they just continue a never-ending circle of feuds that never stop. What is the point of paying $30 to a see a match when it is almost certainly going to happen again and, even more painfully, almost certain to happen again on free television? When pro wrestling first discovered pay-per-view, there was a reason to buy those shows. When Andre took on Hogan in 1987, if you missed it, there was a good chance you would never see it again. When the Ultimate Warrior faced Hogan in 1990, it would be another eight years before they wrestled again and never in the WWF. The point is these matches were built for months, sometimes years, and you felt as a fan you HAD to watch. Today? Why do I care about Cena/Umaga when I've already seen it and will definitely see it again on Raw in the next couple of months? Why would I throw away $40? Compare this to UFC and the Mixed-Martial Arts craze that is, reportedly, pulling insane buyrates. It's easy to see why. With one governing body, a company like UFC is what boxing and wrestling used to be. It's a match between two fighters and there will almost undoubtedly be a winner. Sometimes there are rematches and controversial endings but more often than not the consumer can be confident they will see a feud come to a head and there will be some conclusion. That's why people are plucking down their money for UFC. That's why it's the WWE's biggest competition right now. So what's the answer? Cut the fat. It's simple. The number of pay-per-view shows needs to be drastically reduced if the WWE doesn't want to run the risk of not only alienating its own fans but being completely overrun by MMA. Reducing the number of pay-per-views may at first cost the WWE money but will, in the long run, contribute to a rebirth. With so many pay-per-views, there is no time to develop feuds or rivalries. Instead, pay-per-view matches are rushed and thrown together. Not only does this hurt the big shows, it hurts the weekly television shows. Save for K-Fed/Cena, when's the last big-time match the WWE promoted on Raw and SmackDown? They can't do that anymore because they need to save those to get those 150,000 people to pay $35 to watch No Mercy. SmackDown be damned! In short, the number of pay-per-views has simply overwhelmed the WWE's product. There's no flow. There's no logic. There's no real reason to watch. A reduction in pay-per-views will allow the WWE to build up matches and you know what that means? More people buying those pay-per-views! The loss of four to six pay-per-views can be replaced quickly if the E gets it act together and draws the interest of wrestling fans. Alas, I know this won't happen. If anything, there will be more pay-per-views added. It's just economics. If only 60,000 people order a show, well that's like selling out the Skydome in Toronto with a fraction of the cost. Buyrates will dwindle, television ratings will suffer but the E will continue to make its money. Who suffers? We do. The quality for a pay-per-view show just isn't there anymore and it's a shame. You can pay money to see Cena beat Umaga. I'll just wait for the replay on Raw in a couple weeks.
Boy, it must've been awkward for you and King (and Mr. McMahon) during Rosie vs Donald. You know what I'm getting at.
hi, JR do you know when WWE will be coming back to Australia,as lots of us would like a Raw Taping in Melbourne. thanks. p.s do you know if Wrestlemania will ever be in Australia
hi jr. just wanted to say happy birthday first of all. the 1st subject i would like to talk about is the biggest name in wrestling history in my opinion stone cold steve austin. i cant wait for condemned to come out mainly because he was such inspiration in the ring it can only transverse onto big screen, i feel this film will do bigger than the 2 other wwe films as obviously austin was and still is more popular than both cena and kane put together in my opinion. i will never tire of watching austin in the ring he truely was lord of the ring and hogan couldnt shine austins boots as far as entertainment value goes. ive got an idea for mania with austin, first of all we need to see him drive into the arena again because that was always a special austin moment next up i think austin and cena should have a street fight no stunners or f.u. involved and this not to be a match simply go at it until it gets broken up that would be 1 way in which cena could be really over as top face. because any man that could go toe to toe with austin would get that big push. last subject theres a city in uk called leeds that is 4th biggest in england building an arena so hopefully one day we will see you there.
Okay, TNA has no story-line. Atleast wwe has the audacity to create story-lines. Although some story-lines are really stupid and unneeded its more entertaining than tna.
Hi JR, First off I would like to say the WWE would not be the same without you. Your commentary make a match in my opinion. On another noter, I was curious about Scotty 2 Hotty. He hasn't won a match in a good while but is still over and you can tell he still has his passion for the buisness. Do you see any chance of a push headed his way?
Hey Jim, Great to hear from you on this site and a very belated birthday. My question to you is on your color commentators in the past. What was it like working with Terry Funk briefly? By the way I too would love to see Flair-Steamboat one more time. Kevin Gillman
Hey JR im a big fan of your work and just wanted to say that first and foremost.Anyways im a big fan of the WWE but a huge fan of ECW both original and the new one.My comment pertains to the rumor i been hearing about Lashley vs.Khali and i think thats the worst idea ever especially for WRESTLEMANIA.For us real ECW fans i think personally Lashley should have the belt taken off him and given to RVD,Sabu,or even CM Punk. Also WWE should consider making ECW go back to the way it once was that made it so great in the first place. They can really make a difference if they did that.
Question- Do you think the WWE will bring the TV title to ECW or Raw or Smackdown? I think the wwe needs a new title.
JR, Happy new year, If I can speak frankly, I feel WWE is repeating the same mistakes that brought WCW to it's knees, recycling past story lines such as the NWO and DX as well as integrating celebrities such as K-fed and in WCW's case Dennis Rodman. The feud with Federline cheapens the value of the title and frankly WWE can do without it. I hope they can come up with some new ideas and won't rsot to an NWO vs DX story line, which has been rumored. Thanks, Hibee - one of the few Scottich wrestling fans.
Happy belated birthday J.R. and I quick question. I know that you've said your say about creative writing for the WWE as in becoming a member of the creative team. Howeever, I sstill need to ask if or the WWE ever takes any recommendations or ideas from its fans about possible storylines for the weekly programming? I mean, you always say the more the merrier as it come to competition in the industry and I'd think that the same type of enthusiam could be extented to creative ideas. That's not to say listen to every idea, but some of us have a true capacity for story writing and creative thought. I know that you're no longer in the loop with the creative aspect of the WWE but it's something to pass along. Thank you and until next time, Cavalier "Chevy" Johnson
Hey JR I know you get this all the time so I apologise for appearing repetitive but as with the comment from Craig, in your humble opinion do you ever see The Rock recapturing WWE gold? Because I for one sure know that this would turn me along with many others, back from a fan who loyally watches every week back into a hardcore fan who cannot wait for the week to come around for Raw and spreads the good word of which is wrestling. The Rock is the closest person we have from the legendary ‘attitude era’ who can still physically wrestle on a weekly basis so that’s why I’m very intrigued to see if he returns. All the best as well to you mate.
Hey J.R. What are your thoughts on the new TNA Wrestling game set to come out mid-to-late 2007? From the preview videos, it looks pretty good. Also, what are your thoughts on what has been reported as a "direct shot" at Kurt Angle in his promo on Raw? Finally, what do you think it would be like within the WWE if guys like Scott Steiner, Brock Lesnar, The Rock, and Chris Jericho came back to wrestling? Basically, most of the roster from 2003. Cheers.
1. With Natilie Neidhart and Harry Smith coming to the WWE, do you think it is possible to see a new Hart Foundation in the future? 2. When will ECW get better?
I recently read on Wikipedia that that you said you expect The Rock could return in 2007 sometime, do you think The Rock could ever have another WWE championship reign and maybe a feud with John Cena.
WWE has turned into the most stale and boring Product in the world of wrestling and as of today and until Brock Lesnar is back in wrestling my Sky Sports will be used only to watch Tottenham Hotspur and Bravo 2 For TNA impact and atleast TNA dont make us in England have to pay £14.95 thats about $30 for you americans just to watch crap like the Survivor Series or Armageddon Angle, Edge, Lesnar, AJ Styles and Samoa Joe are the best wrestlers out there and WWE owns one and the sooner Edge goes the better for his career having to OBVIOUSLY put over Paul Levesque like the big nosed boring man that he is BRING BACK LESNAR!!! BRING BACK LESNAR!!! BRING BACK LESNAR!!!
Hello J.R. Probably nothing you can influence but I adore the Smackdown V Raw 2007 game on the Xbox 360. It would be very cool if the announcers could get more involved with the playing. Yes, we can smash the announce tables (where are the Spanish guys?) but it would be interesting to interact directly with the announcers. J.R. as World Champ? Well if not in real life then a title run in the game would be fantastic! It would make for a facinating career-mode story in the game or even something like being able to wrestle as an announcer in an exhibition match. Ever played the S V R games?
A tip of the hat to you, sir, I've been a fan of pro wrestling since the 1970's, before I was ever introduced to WWE programming(or WWF back in the day). We had the Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling, with such names as Killer Karl Krupp, Bulldog Bob Brown, The Cuban Assasin, & our local New Brunswick, Canada crew included the Cormier brothers(I always wondered if I was related to them somehow), who used the names Leo Burke, the Beast, Rudy Kay, and Bobby Kay. There was even a high flyer that always went barefoot like Snuka called Vinnie Valentino. Keep in mind, high flying was a rarety in those days, so it was kinda cool to see it in the early eighties, before it became the norm. I want to share with you a night that stands out in my memory. It was November 7th,1996, if I remember correctly. The WWE was giving a house show at Harbour Station in Saint John, N.B.. The talent was incredible. We had Undertaker and Shawn Michaels tagging in the main event against Goldust and Mankind. There were many highlights for that evening, but this one sticks out in my mind! The Godwins were taking on the late great team of Owen Hart and Davey Boy Smith. The Godwins were accepted by the crowd with respectable applause, and it was Davey, and Owens turn to walk through the curtain. At the time, Owen and Davey weren't exactly fan favorites. They came out at first with Owen giving the sneer that he was famous for, but a sort of "The Grinch That Stole Christmas" moment occured.(After his heart grows much bigger) As they approached the ring, the cheers became deafening. The guys just looked at each other almost disbelieving their ears. Finally, they just gave up acting like heels, and looked like they had the time of their lives that night. That is the way that I will always remember them both. Smiling, with no Heel heat whatsoever. Thanx for the best announcing this side of the rock,(or the other for any matter). You and the king are the real deal!
Hey JR, just wanted to let you know that you are a true gift to listen to on Raw every Monday, and my question for you is who you believe is the next break out star in the WWE now, and who from outside the WWE would you enjoy seeing in a WWE ring? Cant wait to visit the new BBQ in Norman when it opens!!!!
First off, Happy Birthday. I'm a first time reader of your blog. I love the reading. I am a long time fan of wrestling. Do you think we will see another great tag team era like the era of the Bulldogs and the Hart Foundation? I read rumors of the Undertaker winning the Royal Rumble and facing Batista for the title at Wrestlemania. I also heard he would lose to Batista. If Undertaker is going to lose at a Wrestlemania I believe it should be to either Batista or John Cena. Both of those guys are great champions. My 6 year old daughter is a huge fan of John Cena. We went to a house show in Spencer, Iowa last year. Awesome show. John Cena handed his black wrist band to my daughter when we walked back up the entrance. I would love a chance to personally thank him for that. It made my daughter's night and is something she will never forget.
Hey JR, I was wondering, where did you get your start as a commentator. I'd really like to be involved in WWE someday, while I know I won't be a good wrestler, I've been thinking about managing or being a commentator.
Hey JR, first time questioner. As we all know the web is a hot spot for wild rumours which 90% of the time turn out to be false. However, as a wrestling fan I do check them out from time to time out of general interest. A recent one I heard regarded Smackdown wrestler Joey Mercury, and the status he may have after returning being described as 'jobber to the main eventers', or something along those lines. Could be totally false, but if true it seems a shame, given the success Nitro got since moving to Raw. As both guys have pretty much the same look, and both are promising athletes, Joey could potentially be a big player in the US title division on Smackdown, as guys like Kennedy ultimately move up the ladder. What are your thoughts on Mercury, and in your eyes, is Nitro that more deserving of a push?
1PW has shut down effective today. I just read this on a wrestling news site. I’d love to hear your opinions on how this will effect the wrestling business.
Hey JR I was wondering about your thoughts on Jeff Hardy being WWE Champion someday. I think he would make a great champion and would make it exciting to watch a wwe title match again.
Let the ECW originals run WWECW!!!!!!!!!
Great sauces, JR. I think the Regular is better with chicken while the Chipotle is better with pork. Do you think the style of wrestling you and I enjoy (physical, athletic style that is presented as legitimate athletic competition) will ever come back into vogue?
Hey J.R, what are your thoughts on Angle's jump to TNA? I personally despise TNA and only watch it when there is nothing better on t.v. However, it seems as though Kurt has really stepped it up since joining the TNA roster and eventhough I hate TNA I find myself cheering for Angle more so than ever, he has a more bad as, likeable attitude. So what are your thoughts on Angle now? And how do you feel about the way WWE has been ribbing Angle since leaving (WWE Magazine's Tattoo and HBK's Raw promo)? Speaking of TNA I am quite honestly getting frusturated with the V.K.M. storyline, I am all for taking shots at another company but I just don't see TNA ever becoming a real "threat" to WWE so I just see it as a pathetic attempt at recreating something only WWE can do right (DX/WCW), maybe if they waited a few more years it would make more sense but now it seems like they are just trying to anger the WWE which is dumb on their part because they are nowhere near WWE competition. I was very excited to hear that ECW was coming back full-time when the concept was originally introduced, but now it seems to be the more boring of the three brands, I have heard rumors of a possible Khali Vs Lashley ECW Title match at Wrestlemania 23 and while it seems like it would be an amazing match I do not feel as though the match will live up to anymore than a mid-card match at best. Perhaps C.M. Punk Vs RVD would be an interesting match maybe throw them into the Money In The Bank match. And it's that time of the year again when you gotta start putting bets down on who you think is going to win the Rumble and go onto Wrestlemania to get a World/WWE Title shot... And my prediction is this... Matt Hardy... I know it is a long shot and everyone will think I'm nuts, but think about one thing... this is the first time in years that both of the Hardys have been under WWE contract for a Wrestlemania, and the first thing that comes to my mind is Wrestlemaia 20 when Benoit and Guerrero stood tall as the dominate champions. And my thoughts are we will see Matt Hardy win the Rumble and go onto Mania to face their champion and Jeff Hardy will lose the Intercontinental Title to Nitro at New Years Revolution and soon after win a match that will earn him a WWE Title shot and at the end of Wrestlemania the Hardy Boys will both be holding major singles championship gold. And it is about damn time. I am still mad about Matt Hardys 2005 push being cut short. The Hardyz as the champs would be a Wrestlemania moment to say the least.. So what about you J.R. who's your Royal Rumble prediction?
Hey JR, Since you seem to be pretty honest with these things. You and all the higher ups in the WWE are obviously (i would hope) aware of the massive emergance of the "Smark" fan. Now, in the last few years, the number of us has exploded and this has, in my opinion, caused a slight backlash towards the WWE and a lot of the angles it chooses to run. Now, in the grand scheme of things, its obvious that the WWEs core audience is the 'Mark' audience, and the main priority is to cater to them (e.g John Cenas treatment in the last year) But as the buisness evolves, dont you see there being a point where it becomes really crucial to listen to this growing percentage? I mean, I dont want to sound like im bashing the buisness here, because I love it, but you must know yourself that people like Khali, whos matches have to be heavily edited, dont deserve a spot as much as someone like, I dont know, Jamie Noble. Do some of the writers decisions not completely baffle you? You, a man who has been in the busness for 30 years and has seen it all. Does it not anger you that there are writers in place that know near to nothing about wrestling? Im sorry for making this comment as long as I have and hate to sound like im having a moan, but its because I, Along with the majority that share my feelings, love WRESTLING. Not fat naked male strippers, not worms, not Vince vs. GOD. Wrestling. Thanks for reading :) Gary
I'm getting tired of all this VKM crap are you ? why would they try to disrespect the very people that made them today ?
Hey J.R. I have a 2 questions. First, are there any plans to induct more former AWA wrestlers to the WWE HOF? It was great to see Vern Gagne get inducted this past year. Second, If a game between your Oklahoma Sooners and my Wisconsin Badgers(this years teams) were played on a neutral field, how close would the game be? Thanks J.R. and keep up the great work every Monday night.
Hi J.R. I love reading your blogs. One question: Was there ever a match that happened during one of your absences or on another brand that you wish you would have been able to call? Thanx, Randy
On July 17th on Raw Umaga wrestled John Cena and beat him with help from Edge and Lita and now there fueding dose the creative team think the fans have forgotten this and Cena has allready failed in beating Umaga. I think the creative team think the fans are forgetful. WWE needs a win lose ranking system to pick the challengers for the championships and not give title shots to someone who makes Vince money or someone with big muscles who hasnt worked hard for there spot just to name a few like John Cena Batista and Lashley. Thanks for ur time
Hello JR I just wan'ted too know if you will be watching WSX first show when it airs.I was at the show and unlike NWA TNA and ROH it's not just another Anti-WWE show it does it's own thing and the Wrestlers have a more Southern California accent and a whole different look from WWE and NWA TNA.
Thanks for the blogs...great job.
Hey J.R. Do you ever see Stone Cold becoming a colour commentator in future years? Thanks for taking the time to write this blog, by the way. There aren't too many people that would take the time to do this, and respond to fans' questions. Regards, Lee
JR, I was wondering what ever became of Eric Embry. As a child, I used to love watching the "Flamboyant" one do his thing inside of the squared circle. If I'm not mistaken, he also holds the record for the shortest match in wrestling history (I think it lasted all of 5 seconds). Most people only know Paul Bearer for his work with Undertaker/Kain, and have no idea that he was once known as Percyville Pringle the third, (forgive spelling), the manager of Eric Embry. BTW, I just want to say thanks for everything you've done in the wrestling industry. I've been a fan for over 24 years, and in my opinion, there's no one better when it comes to getting the wrestlers over, and making the matches seem so important. You truly are a class act.
Hi JR, I believe Kane was more popular when he was had a Face persona with the mask and the new costume. Do you think Kane may someday go back to that image? His actions were a laugh when he done a Kane-A-Roonie and imitated Rock and Hulk. Also do you think Booker T will drop the King Booker persona?
J.R i hope you had a great birthday 1) could you please clear something up for me j.r i heard there was bad blood between rock and hbk is this true. cause a match between these two would be awesome. 2) Also will you be taking any bets with the rock regarding the sooners v the miami huuricanes. Last question have you ever been to New Zealand and where you a fan of my favourite tag team the bushwackers.
Hey JR, Happy belated birthday. I have watched WWE for about 15 years now and have seen the greats rise and fall. Recently tho I've found myself missing whole months of both Raw and Smackdown, and virtually the whole existance of ECW, and I haven't watched a PPV since Wrestlemania. I've found tho that everytime I do tune in very few wrestlers make me wanna watch again. DX seems to have gone stale (easily beating everyone in their path was a MASSIVE mistake and they almost feel like heels now), I've huge respect for Cena but he has noone to play off, no HHH to his Rock if you know what I mean and storylines feel rushed at best but usually stalled and dead. I understand the talent pool is strained by 3 brands but their is no brand feuding. Raw is still the number one, Smackdown feels like WCW Thunder was at the end and ECW seems to be like Velocity with a (humiliatingly bad) PPV. Do you see any similarities between the WWE now and the WCW in the Vince Russo days? Things like booking celebs in main event slots for example. There is a difference too between heat and people genuinely disliking someone and not tuneing in, which is what I think K-Fed really has. Also WWE badly needs to split the brands properly and start real competition between them. It's like the Invasion angle all over again. On a positve note I love you and King on commentary. You both need to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as the best team of all time!!
Hay JR, Thanks for answering my Question. You got any advice for a girl wanting to be just a Woman Wrestler and not a diva? Thanks. By The way KC isn't my home but the place I'll say I'am close to lol. Anyway belated birthday. what's you're thoughts of The Chiefs in the Playoffs? With all the respect in the world, Katherine
do you have any idea what happened to p.n. news? yo baby, yo baby, yo baby yo
Hello JR, and Happy Belated Birthday!!!! I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy the WWE Legends specials on WWE 24/7. The main reason is the telling of ROAD STORIES!!!! My father is a musician who has worked with a couple of country music legends and he tells some of the funniest stories from being on the road, and it's great to hear the stories on some of the greats I grew up watching. The Iron Sheik discussion had me in stitches. Oh, and I hope that the Mid-South/UWF footage makes its way to WWE 24/7, since I never got to see that promotion growing up in Nashville, TN. We got Memphis and World Class, and then Crockett, AWA, and WWF(E) when cable came around. Keep up the good work and keep them Legends shows coming.
Hey JR...I was sorry to see the Sooners drop the bowl game....but what an incredible game it was! Especially the last 2 minutes or so! Just a great game to see. What is your opinion on an eventual head to head slot with TNA? I'm thinking that eventually they will move to two hours but will space it against RAW much like NITRO did by going on an hour before. I think whatever they do, it would be great to see. I think that would puch WWE to work harder and become more entertaining again. That has been my biggest complaint is that the WWE has nothing "pushing" them to be better and to hold the audience. The head to head days of Raw vs Nitro were great regardless of who was victorious. One final note..I was reflecting on a few moments of wrestlers that I was lucky enough to experience while doing marketing for Arby's in San Diego. I had The Headbangers at one of our stores and it was comical. I have a video of them serving customers including in the drive through for 20 minutes or so. Was just classic. Mosh had the line of the night saying "This is soo gonna end up on Monday Night Raw". I was also lucky enough to have met Hawk and Animal as they spoke at a school assembly. Hawk was such a great speaker and really a genuine nice guy. It saddened me to see how he had his troubles and ultimately left us. I truly thought he was a wonderful individual. Thanks for making RAW what it is....next time you are in San Diego I'd love to pick up the dinner tab and have Sooner Talk!! Be well!
i know you're busy i just wanted to throw this out there, feel free to throw it back: best of the past: entertainment AND wrestling 1. ric flair 2. macho man 3. bret hart 4. ravishing rick rude 5. owen hart 6. million dollar man 7. the rock * british bulldog best of the present: wrestling AND entertainment 1. chris benoit 2. kurt angle 3. shawn michaels (past and present) 4. a.j. styles 5. HHH 6. christian cage 7. undertaker (yea, still) 8. RVD most potential: 1. edge 2. lashley 3. randy orton 4. johnny nitro 5. a.j. styles 6. ken kennedy 7. samoa joe 8. c.m. punk 9. paul burchill 10. jericho ( if he goes back to the Y2J of old ) cena vs UMAGA? Lashley vs. KHALI? Batista vs. FINLAY? Finlay's good, and i know they've been rushing the talent but cena and batista have beaten the best. ( lashley vs. khali; i'm interested but you know khali's gonna give a stinker and not help lashley at all... throw in rvd, test, sabu, punk, holly.....probably the same hype: 10x better match!) ( i realize i left out cena, rey, kane and batista... they're established and will be around as long as they like) tag team division.... DO IT!!! : la resistance, cryme tyme, world's greatest tag team, london/kindrick, james/stevens, cade/murdoch, highlanders, regal/taylor! thanks for being real throughout the years, JR...
