Football.. Sopranos.. Trish.. Cowboy Lang.. Bruno...

As most know I am a big football fan and with the NFL playoffs in full bloom this weekend I thought I would make some fearless predictions. We had a good week last week with our prognostications. Here goes: The Colts at the Ravens(-4)....I have become a Ravens fan because of all the Oklahoma alumni now playing for Baltimore. Playing at home, outdoors gives the Ravens the edge here and there is no doubt that Peyton Manning will be harassed unmercifully as he attempts to find receivers, so I am going with Baltimore to take care of business. Emotion still means something to me whether it be in the NFL or in wrestling and New Orleans has the necessary passion to unseat one of the NFL’s hottest teams in Philly (+4) in the Superdome which will feel like a psych ward this weekend. I like what Philly has done since Donovan McNabb went down with an injury but on the road and in the Dome gives the Saints the slight edge. Saints win at home. Seattle (+8 1/2) at Chicago will be a Slobber-knocker. I like Chicago to win even though former OU DTs, Tommie Harris and Dusty Dvorachek, will not play due to injuries. The Bears have two other former Sooners on the squad in WR Mark Bradley and FB J.D. Runnels who I pull for. Seattle will keep it close but I think Chicago wins a close one at home. Rex Grossman’s play at QB will be the key for a Chicago victory, i.e. no turnovers. I like the sloppy dressing Bill Belachek’s New England team to win at San Diego. The Pats (+5) are peaking and have playoff experience and feature QB Tom Brady whose track record in the playoffs is Montana-esque. Boise State got hosed in the final college football rankings by the media and the coaches in my opinion. The only team to finish the year 13-0 was ranked 5th by most and I feel the Broncos should have been ranked no lower than 3rd in the final rankings. Obviously, Boise State’s strength of schedule was their undoing. I look for Adrian Peterson to jump to the NFL and enter the 2007 NFL draft within the next few days. AD is projected to be a top 5 pick according to the experts and definitely a top ten pick. This will warrant some significant up front money in the form of a signing bonus for the talented running back who is 6’2”/220 pounds and runs a legit 4.35 forty. If AD were my son, I would encourage him to move to the next level and to SAVE HIS MONEY! I am really proud of the effort of Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis #33 this season even though the talented Ohio State Buckeyes failed to win another National Title. I can tell you from first hand, sideline experience, that winning National Titles in college football are not easy. James is only a sophomore and I hope he continues to be a student-athlete at Ohio State and graduates with a viable college degree before venturing on to the NFL which is a lay-up. I sent James a text message recently saying, “Your Mom must have really been a great athlete.” I was simply having some fun with James’ dad Joe, Road Warrior Animal. I enjoyed Trish Stratus’ work on the CBS program “Armed and Dangerous” last night for the debut episode. Old friends Barry Bloom and Michael Braverman are Executive Producers of the show. I hope it does well for all involved. Critics will most likely hammer it because that is what critics do…criticize. I am anxious to see “The Sopranos” on A/E and to see how the editing process has unfolded regarding the strong language the show features. “The Sopranos” is one of my all time favorite TV shows and we have even collected some signed Sopranos’ memorabilia that we will put on display in our Bar-B-Q eatery which we hope opens in April in Norman, Oklahoma. I hope “The Sopranos” does a full length feature film before they call it a day. Someone emailed me about Cruiserweights and I am a big fan of the Cruiserweights but I don’t know that I am in the majority on that opinion overall in the business as a whole. Women winning men’s wrestling titles are a little too “out there” for me and my old school tastes. That may sound obsolete or chauvinistic but that’s how I feel. You asked and I answered. Slow news day….Sylvan gets a traffic ticket in Peoria, Illinois on Tuesday. Think about it for a minute. This actually was a significant news item on some wrestling websites this week. The annual “will Bruno Sammartino go into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007” question is posed….again. I have personally met with Bruno, who I have great respect for, and discussed the HOF and other projects with him and the WWE. Bruno did not accept either offer at that time so if anyone slams the WWE for not inducting Bruno, remember it does take two to tango. Bruno’s personal issues regarding the WWE are what they are and are probably not going to change even though I wish he would accept induction for his long time fans’ sake. Yours truly is doing voice overs tomorrow night for another video game to be released in the future. That should be an adventure considering the game doesn’t come out for about a year and lots of things can change in that length of time. I have been asked if I think someone will replace HHH and join HBK in DX. I don’t know the answer but my guess would be “no”. However time will definitely tell and this should be an interesting story to follow on Monday Night Raw. HBK vs. Edge/Orton this Monday night from Bossier City, La sounds like a long night for Shawn Michaels to me but strange things often times occur on the WWE’s flagship broadcast. If someone was going to step up and assist HBK, Monday might be the right time. Midget wrestler “Cowboy” Lang passed away this week homeless and penniless in Portland, Oregon. I have some unique memories of “Cowboy” but am saddened that another wrestler died in such an impoverished condition. So many old timers were not as business savvy as they should have been back in the day as it relates to savings accounts, tax issues, and financially preparing for the day they had to call it quits. I have preached to the men and women I used to manage how important it is for them to fully understand their own personal financial situations and to understand that the “big money” doesn’t last forever. Saving cash and paying their taxes has been a mantra of mine to the talent for years. Some listened and some did not. When I hear of wrestlers who made north of seven figures for a given year now not having a pot to pee in it always makes me ask, “Why?” This is a sad situation to address but I have seen so many wrestlers have great years and now not have the proverbial two quarters to rub together. One of my most vivid memories of “Cowboy” Lang was one night in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, which was our regular Wednesday night club in the 70s, where we worked in a converted car dealership and the showroom was where the ring was. There was one shower for two dressing rooms. The midget tag went on prior to the main event which I refereed. When I got back to ready myself for my shower the main event guys cut in front of the midgets while there was still some hot water which made the 4 midgets and yours truly have to wait. I was just getting started in the business and out of respect I took my shower last which was nothing new. I remember “Cowboy” Lang staying in the shower what seemed to be a LONG time when finally one of the other midgets pulled back the shower curtain in anger and began cursing Lang. Lang had his back to the shower curtain and when he turned around “Cowboy” was in, I’ll be delicate here, an extremely “manly mood”. The 4 footer had risen to the occasion so to speak and needless to say I did not shower that night and depended on plenty of “Right Guard” spray deodorant and some “Old Spice” cologne to get me back to Oklahoma. I had always heard that “Cowboy” Lang was a “ladies man” and I evidently found out why. J.R.

HI Jim; I admire the great work you have done for the WWE over the year's. My main concern is Bruno Sammartino. Please continue to incourgage Bruno to forgive Vince and let it go. Forgiveness is healthy and will help remove the awlful burden Bruno has been carrying around for so many years. Tell Bruno to remmeber the fan's that stuck with him and supported him. I for one want to see him inducted into the hall of fame. After all JR Tell Bruno God has been good to him and blessed him with a beautiful carreer. Bruno is and alway's been the best in the world.
Jim you rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mania fall out... Monday Night Raw opens with Michaels and Cena confonting each other in the back... Michales lets it be known, that by gones are by gones, and that at mania.. Cena was the better man. He congratulates him. As Michaels and Cena continue their little appreciation fest, up walk the Worlds Greatest Tagtean. Shelton and Haas, who have no shortage of insults for the champ, and HBK. Before it gets to far into the insults, HBK asks Cena if he could recall how Haas and Shelton, Cena goes onto to critique the match, that wasn't, with a flare that seems to becoming Cena gift. The end result, later in the night. Mania Main Eventers will face the World's Greatest Tagteam for the titles. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- COMMERCIAL =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Back after the break we have Armando Alejandro Estrada in the ring... he goes onto to blame Stone Cold Steve Austin for Umaga's loss to Lashley the night before. Estrada demands Austin come to the ring and confront him like a man. *Ortan's music hits, and comes young Randall. Ortan basically tells Estrada no one cares about Austin, he's all done in the business. That Austin's movie will be a flop, and that Austin will never step back in the ring because he is afraid of being the next legend killed by the Legend Killer. Ortan gets to the meat and potatos, and says Umaga and Estrada should be more worried about him, as he gets a shot at the Intercontental Championship. Ortan leaves, Estrada sports look like he is my four month old pooping. -=-=-=-=-= COMMERCIAL WRESTLEMANIA FLASHBACK - DARK MATCH Flair and Carlito vs. Guerraro and Helms =-=-=-=-=-=- Carlito/Flair vs. Helms/Guerarro. Short match, won by Carlito and Flair on a backcracker by Carlito after a little mis-communication leads to a shoving fest between Chavo and not-Hurricane. -=-=-=-=-=-=- COMMERICAL =-=-=-=-=-=-=- Nitro/Melina/Masters vs. Ashley/The Hardy Boys. Standard mixed tag action. Jeff Hardy, still selling the nasty bump from mania. Still makes Masters look more like Scott Steiner in his prime, then Lex Luger post incarceration. Cat fight, Hardy bump, all included. Nitro steals show after snapping and pummelling everyone but Melina with chair. All though he thinks about it. =-=-=-=-=-=- COMMERCIAL BREAK -=-=-=-=-=-= Ortan vs. Umaga - For IC Title. Really good match. Ortan sells the high impact offense of Umaga, well. Ortan goes for the RKO, reversed into the Samoan Spike.. Umaga preps for the pinfall. The glass breaks and out comes Austin. Austin into the ring. Stunner for Umaga, stunner for Estrada, and a stunner for Ortan. Austin gets on the mic.. Thanks the fans their support with his recent stinit in wrestling and looks forward to seeing the fans during his movie tour. Ends it with a Monday Raw will always be his home, and if you want to see Stonecold dropped one more stunner, someday on a certain immortal son of bitch... give me a hell yeah.. Crowd gives a hell yeah... Austin smirks, music hits, beer pounding continues.. Austin makes that sad, but all too familiar strut into wrestling oblivion. (LOVE YOU MAN!) -=-=-=-=-=-=- MAIN EVENT - Mania's Main Event vs. Worlds Greatest Tagteam A four star match on paper. A three star match on TV. Michaels carries Haas and Benjiman's offense, flawlessly. Haas and Benjiman in return carries Cena's offense perfectly. Down to the ending spot. Cena is in on a hot tag. Lays out Haas.. Preps for the five knuckles shuffle.. Michales takes his head off with sweat chin music. Announcers are in shock. Crowd actually digs it. Cena stumbles back into a T-Bone suplex, from Shelton.. HBK drags Haas on top for the cover, retreats to the corner and straddles the top rope with the arrognace of HBK. 1.2.3, new Tagteam Champs. Post Match... Michaels gets all three belts, he hands the tag belts to Haas and Shelton. Cena is making his way to his feet. Bamo.. nother sweet chin music to the face. Michaels leave the champ laying, WWE strapp laying across his chest, with Shelton and on Haas on ring posts as book ends, Michaels gives the crowd some chops. DX music hits.. and we are wondering what the hell is going on. Of course this is just my fantasy raw. My fantasy WWE. But I am still tuning into to see whatever it is WWE creative gives me. Because... bluntly... I love this ****. Congrats JR on your induction into the hall of fame.

I knew cowboy since I was !6 yrs old. I am now 49.After his accident in South Africa his health was never the same and he was plagued with some badluck. His story istruely a sad one. Long time no see there JR!
Hi JR, I know you're a huge football fan and I just wanted to get your opinion on Bear Bryant. I'm from Montgomery AL. and I've not seen another Alabama coach that can compare to what amounts to Bear's accomplishments. We've just gotten a new coach, Nick Sabin, and I'm wondering how well you think he will do? Good Wishes Always Jennifer
Hey, I'm a little disappointed you didn't give the Fighting Gators more credit... We were hounded on the net of a month or so saying we'd lose big time.. and you know what?? We DOMINATED. FLORIDA 41 OHIO STATE 14 P.S. Rising QB Star Tim Tebow ran over James Laurinaitis to get into the end zone. Dig That.
Bruno has no interest in the Hall of Fame, something he has made very clear during interviews.
Hi I was wondering, will wwe ever release a dvd of interesting dark matches at tv tapings, such as The Undertaker vs. Bret Hart from Dayton Ohio 10/22/91, Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair Dayton Ohio 10/22/91, The Rockers vs. The Hart Foundation, where The Rockers win the tag titles, Cpl. Kirchner vs. Kamala from the Joe Louis Arena 2/21/87? Thank You
a few comments to the previous posts: Dylan - enough with the dirt sheet question...if you are truthful when you say you can't stand them, then ignore them. Wait until 'Mania with the rest of us! Besides, Piper is battling cancer... P.S. Thank you Big Daddy! everyone - stop asking the same questions over and over again, especially when you start out "I'm not sure if you've already answered this but..." check the blog archive if you're unsure. Stop wasting time asking repeatedly! everyone - stop asking when the WWE is coming to have a show or a PPV there where you live. Check the WWE website for travel schedule. Simple as that. Steve Ronquillo - ECW is dead. Deal with it. I watch it every week as a third WWE brand but it is not what I remember ECW to be. Everyone needs to realize this WWECW is what Vince wants it to be, not what fans want it to be. Teasing the original die hard fans with having the show there every week is not a good idea. Tyler - I'm surprised this isn't common knowledge yet but yes Stone Cold's movie will be in theaters. Even if you weren't sure, since the Cena crap and Kane crap were in theaters, there's no reason to suspect otherwise for Stone Cold's movie. everyone - enough with the "hey JR, name your favorite this, your favorite that, your top 3 this, your top 3 that..." instead, how about you list yours? everyone - instead of asking JR why don't they do they do this or that...just say here's an idea I have that might be interesting:... (sort of like Danel Jenkins did) Cody - Hardy wrestles as much as everyone else. That one particular week you refer to, he and Matt had overexposure to build hype for the ECW PPV match against MNM. everyone - enough with the Hogan dream match. Hogan is a washed up has been. Besides, since he has creative control over matches in his contract, he will never lose again. Do you really think others like to job to him? Puh-lease! everyone - enough with the how do I get into WWE questions zeshan & Jason New Zealand - DON'T YOU KNOW HOW ANNOYING IT IS TO TRY TO READ SOMETHING WRITTEN LIKE THIS?! Simple Mark - where to start?...take your medication! JR - you rock! keep it up
J.R. Thanks for always giving your honest opinion. I appreciate everything you've done in this business. Keep up the good work. Josh Tapp
I think its time we want wrestlng, not crap liek that on RAW. TNA chants even started for crying out load. WE WANT WRESTLING!!!!!!!!! Oh ad JR, how can anyone backstage campare Angle and Joe to Cena and Umaga, come on man, wipe your eyes, Cena cant wrestle, Umaga is a bad bad Joe rip off. Its about time Christ Beniot vs Cm Punk or something like that starts to headline because that would be a classic. Im sick of all these bodybuilding stiffs headline because there not in the slightest bit entertaining
I know this isn't your area, but to your knowledge, was there ever a plan to release some of your old WCW tapes on DVD? Maybe something like releasing Nitro on DVD in "seasons" as other television series do? Release a set every year or six months? Wrestling fans would surely appreciate this. What do you think?
Hey Jr, what's the deal with WWE always feeling it has to repackage guys when they come from the competition. Monty Brown, as that is his real name, is now Marquis Cor Von!? This reminds me of such nightmares as 2 Cold Scorpio/Flash Funk, DDP/Stalker, and most recently Predator/Sylvester Terkay. The Monty Brown name change is just another situation where you fix something that's not broken. At least he is still the "Alpha Male" and uses the great looking and innovative "Pounce" move. Brown got buried in TNA because of new talent being flooded there and it was a shame, hopefully WWE won't make the same mistake as Brown's mic skills are above average at the very least. Hate to sound like a broken record but thank you JR for posting your comments as often as you do. Your insight into the wrestling business is great to see. Hopefully my Chicago Bears will go all the way this year!!! Good call on the Seattle game, you said it would be close until the end and it went to overtime. Future football analyst? Hey why not right, I liked your XFL commentary, one of the few who kept watching. Good luck and thanks for reading.
J.R. : Thank you for having this website and providing so much feedback to the fans. The Royal Rumble is my favorite pay-per-view. The rumble is my favorite because of one thing; every year a group of my friends come to my house and we draw 2 numbers (1-30) each. Then we cheer for which ever superstar happened to draw our respective numbers. We all end up cheering for the most random superstars and “rib” each other when someone gets a bad pick. It is simply a great time for all who attend. This gave me the idea that maybe WWE could have a contest that fans enter online. Thirty fans win a trip to the rumble and draw numbers when arriving, just like the WWE superstars. And the fan that has the same entry number as the winning superstar wins the grand prize, a trip to WrestleMania. I think it would be a great PR for the WWE and a better time for the lucky fans. What do you think? Thanks for all the memories. Alex Ketchum
Mr Ross, Obviously, the creative people who put the shows together are struggling right now. Short of boycotting programming and driving ratings down, how can fans show their displeasure at the way things have been going lately? Thanks, Josh
Hi JR, Quick question with regards to WWE videogames. You previously mentioned that you were to be in the studio doing voice over work for an upcoming WWE videogame. Would this game be Smackdown vs RAW 2008 by any chance, or something new? I really hope it's the latter. Sticking to WWE videogames, I was curious as to why we never see Victoria in WWE games anymore? Is there a reason why she hasn't been included in recent years? I really hope she is in the next one. Thanks Amit
Hello J.R.! Just wanted to comment on Monty Brown's debut in ECW tonight. First i am thrilled to finally see Monty Brown in action again! Second, I am also thrilled that he kept the "Alpha Male" persona and "The Pounce" finisher. Third, Man it was great to hear him on the mic again! I must admit I love TNA it's my favorite brand. But, i understand perfectly the difference between TNA and WWE and i often felt Monty Brown was perfect for WWE. Hell TNA dropped the ball on him. Monty Brown has the look, the talent, the ability and the almighty "IT" factor to make it in WWE. But then again we are talking about the same company that somehow managed to screw up DDP. DDP for God's sake! The only thing i don't like is the name change. What do you think about Monty Brown? and can you pass this e-mail along to Mr. McMahon or whoever is in charge of talent and let them know that i expect big things from Monty Brown in WWE! Move over Bobby Lashley!! Batista too for that matter... Everyone move over! Thanks for your time. Carlos G. Lodi, California
Mr Ross, I appreciate you taking the time to answer questions for the fans. I also wanted to let you know how much I enjoy the program you host on 24/7 'Legends of Wrestling'. My question for you is, will this show continue? Thanks so much!!
The one person I hope is inducted into the Hall of Fame each year and each year I am disappointed is my all-time favorite performer "Mr Perfect" Curt Hennig. JR, do you think that the late, great Mr.P will ever make it into the HoF?
JR: I'm just curious to know your thoughts on The Great Khali being drafted in as Triple H's replacement on Raw? For me, he is no replacement. He is an impressive specimen physically, but he doesn't appear to possess the aptitude for the business. I will give credit and say that he has improved on offense since his debut. But his selling is woeful. The rumor is that he will be meeting Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 23. Now, if that is the case - who the hell is going to carry the workload in that match? Hogan is ring-rusty and past his prime and even needed a good worker to help him have a good match back in the 1980's. So how is he going to carry Khali?
I think too much is being made over the O'Donnell/Trump skit. What more attention should be drawn to is the lazy booking on Raw week after week. On every Raw for the past two months we have had Kenny Vs Flair and Hardy Vs Nitro on virtually every show and how many times do we need to see Flair get beat down backstage by Orton & Edge? I usually try to accentuate the positives but there seems to be little inspiration in the booking of Raw. I don't know why this is either. Because it is a strong roster.
Hey JR in case you didn't notice, Matt from Wrestlezone has a degree in English. I noticed his superior linguistics as he was discussing his 'inside sources' at the WWE. Matt has also been a reporter his entire life. Copy & paste artists. They must be a real prize at the movies making noise about what they think will happen next and how fake a certain scene looked. I wish they'd just sit back, shut up, and let the rest of us enjoy the SHOW. Reporter? LOL Report this and see if I jump. So what's in the sauce, JR?
Hey J.R., Keep up the good work. Is there any way we could see Estrada become the "handler" for Khali? It would help Khali's character and bring back some nostalgia of the "Heenan Family". Just a thought. I agree with some others' postings on Cena vs. Orton, could be huge. Cena will dipose of Umaga(Jamal) at Rumble and Rated RKO will torture HBK for a few more weeks. After Rumble, Cena will save HBK(not join DX). Cena/HBK will fued with Rated RKO until Mania. At Mania Edge vs. HBK Number 1 contender TLC match. Cena vs. Orton Hell in a Cell. Orton wins, and so does HBK. In the future Cena vs. HBK title match with showing of respect after Cena beats HBK. HHH returns weilding a sledge hammer says he is disgusted with HBK's attitude. HHH totally desimates HBK and Cena. HHH wins Title at Summerslam in a 3-way dance. Cena wants a rematch, Orton deserves another title run, HBK says he still has "it", Edge weasels his way into the title picture and lastly the returning Jericho demands a title shot. Wrestlemania 2008 is an Armagedden Hell in The Cell. Just a few thoughts from the obsessed wrestling fan.
Hey J.R., I am writing to you as a young broadcaster who has only been in the broadcasting business for a couple years. I am a sports anchor and have done play-by-play for all 3 major sports. I've received 2 awards from the state of Illinois for best play-by-play and best sports reporting and a national nomination for best play-by-play at the collegiate level. I have been a WWE fan since I was 4 years old when Randy Savage was WWE Champion and was wondering if you had any advice on how to break into wrestling as a broadcaster. It would also be an honor if you would be willing to hear some of my broadcasts and give me a critique. I understand that you have had other jobs as a sportscaster besides WWE including the Atlanta Falcons and would love to one day, reach your high level of success in the broadcasting business. I'm sure you get numerous messages such as this one, but I will be checking my email everyday, and I truly hope to get a repsonse. Thank you for your time. I enjoy your broadcasts. You have truly become the voice of wrestling.
JR. You deserve to be in the hall of fame. Good luck to you in that categorie I am sure you can get into it either this year or next year or the year after that. Some young stars who don't get to dominate and get buried by DX just don't deserve the push. You actually wanted to see the spirit squad beat DX?? That would have been a real disaster. Orton/Edge are not a tag team they were mashed together because both had past feuds with DX as singles stars. No Team is good enough to go over DX completely.
Hey JR, Great Blog! Just wanna say that the brand extension seems a bit unrealistic. RAW advertises Smackdon and vice-versa, these brands need to be kept apart and i sometimes see john ceana on smackdown!! He should be on Raw only! There are far too many PPVs which is burning the market which i think you would agree! seeing as there are three brands we should only have the traditional PPVs such as Summerslam, Survivor series, Royal Rumble and Wrestlmaina. Why not Bring the king of the Ring PPV back? each brand could nominate there star wrestlers to participate in the tornament. The fans would look forward to PPVs that are far and inbetween because then there somthing to at least anticipate, but as its a business you would lose money doing that so i guess we would never see it.
Hi J.R. Having just watched the 15th January edition of Raw, I am wondering why Randy Orton is getting buried week after week by either one or both of DX? Shouldn't the established stars such as HHH and HBK be helping to put over younger guys like Randy (and Edge) rather than destroy them totally? So HBK can beat both Randy and Edge on his own now can he? Oh, how absolutely wonderful. Not. No doubt this is all leading to a Wrestlemania main event of Superman Cena vs. Superman HBK. Well, I won't be ordering it on PPV, that's for sure. As for Randy, I rather hope the guy doesn't renew his contract with the WWE in May and goes to TNA instead, where they might actually appreciate him.
I have been seeing a lot of rumors going around about the list of names that were released for the HOF on the Bubba The Love Sponge via Hogan. Personally I would dwindle it down to about 8. My list would be: Nick Bockwinkel, Ted DiBiase, Dusty Rhodes, Bob Backlund, The Bushwhackers, Muhammed Ali, Howard Finkel... I noticed your name on the list and I think you should be in the HOF, but not right now because you still have a few years behind that announce table because you're a very hard person to replace. How do you think Mr. McMahon will react, or did react, to this being leaked?
JR- what would you think of a match between Umaga and the Undertaker? i know that Umaga has taken care of Kane, but The Undertakes is on another level, i think this would be some hell of a match, what are your thoughts?
I think The Great Khali is the best thing to happen to WWE since well, Hulk Hogan in 1984! This guy is a monster and he is capable of wrestling 5 star matches with anyone. In fact, little known fact is that Khali helped train ROH's Bryan Danielson and he also came up with the idea for TNA's Ultimate X match. Its true. Khali was on the toilet and sketched out the idea of the criss crossed cables and the giant X and imagined it could be two cruiserweights and himself in a 60 minute slobberknocker of epic proportions. He then decided Vince McMahon wouldnt go for it, so he crumpled it up and threw it away. Turns out Jeff Jarrett was cleaning the bathroom and found the crumpled sketch. The rest is history.
RE: Jonathan Bellamonte's comments. I love how we had an entire show dedicated to Eddie Guerrero and how he's mentioned nearly every week and all Road Warrior Hawk got was a 2 second blurb at the beginning of Raw. It's awesome how backstage politics works and how they can mean that Eddie is inducted but The Road Warriors get swept under the rug. I mean, Eddie was great and all, but his whole gimmick was "hey, check it out, I'm Mexican! Look at me, doing all this stereotypical Mexican stuff". Let's be honest, we were a breath away from seeing Eddie eating tacos in the ring. Meanwhile, there has never been a team as frightening and as copied as the legendary Road Warriors.
JR, Hypothetical situation: you're on a desert island with enough food, a portable DVD player and a DVD of only three matches on it. Which three matches would you choose to be on that DVD? (Loaded question, I know. My picks are Magnum TA vs. Tully Blanchard I Quit Match; Steamboat-Savage WrestleMania III; and the World title three way at WrestleMania XX).
Hogan for WM? Please NO! It gets old seeing him wheeled out year after year for a one off 'performance' of the same tired old gimmicks and a guaranteed win over a guy that has worked his butt off all year. He's past it. Handle it.
Hey Jim First off, I want to know if your BBQ sauce is in supermarkets around the US. I don't have a mailing address yet and I would rather not have it sitting at the post office box office. But now onto another thing. I saw the TNA ppv and VKM's declare victory. I find it disturbing that they went the WCW route of having Eric Bischoff (my spelling may be a bit off on that) vs Vince McMahon at a WCW ppv event. I thought that was the start of their down fall. Also I think Brad Armstrong on ECW is pretty good as a commentator over that but I would hate to see Tazz leave. He is too good to just let go you know. Also I want to touch on JBL always blasting on Teddy Long. I just have a gut feeling that JBL will caust Teddy his job and take over it himself and that would make the brands dominantly heel again, to which I hate. Raw hasn't seen a face or a tweener GM in some time and ECW, who the hell is running that now that Hayman is gone now? I would also like to ask that since Manga and Anime is very popular in the US then will the WWE have a character that is off of one of those character say for example Alucard (Arucard is spelled in the English translation but Alucard is how its pronounced) type character. Alucard is from the Hellsing Manga just in case you want to look it up or something to get an idea. I know the Hurricane was to be close to Green Lantern since Helms was a fan of Green Lantern. Do you think that could ever happen a character being based off an Manga or anime or resemble one from that genre
I agree that Bruno should accept the HOF. Not accepting an honor seems futile to me. HOWEVER, I completely understand not doing anything else with them. Why ruin an untarnished career by working for someone who makes you physically ill? I could see the look on bruno's face when McMahon brings up semen or kissing ass or someother below the belt joke that only he gets. I would be dissappointed if he did.
I have another comment regarding Kane, since the WWE does not have much top shelf talent anymore, why in your pinion doesn't Kane get a push? He has been a main eventer in the past and I don't know why he isn't beeing utilized anymore. I mean he is fueding with MVP. Why did the WWE decide to do away with Kanes mask and ring attire, it seems like ever since he took it off he isn't as popular. Great blog JR, keep up all the updates, i check it probably check it 4 times a day
Hi JR, I've honestly been a fan for years. I was at the St. Louis RAW show, and was wondering who I contact to get my money back, considering the longest match of the show was a poorly impersonated Rosie/ Trump match, which even featured a man I know well in Ace Steele, which you sold like it was a real match. Based on the action of the TNA PPV last night, which I watched at The Rec Room in St. Louis, I would much rather spend my money on the action they provide, then, quite frankly, even what the WWE will provide leading to Wrestlemania. And this is coming from someone who contructed an 8-foot, 30 day, countdown, complete w/ characatures of all the participants, to WM14 at his college, and went to WM17. I hope to take my refund from the WWE to help pay for the TNA PPV in St. Louis in the near future. Jimmy Austin
Hi Jr, I really hope you read this because I've been wondering something. Have you heard anything of Droz as of late? I was a huge fan of his and have tried to find out about his condition as of late.
Hey J.R this is my first time trying this so lets see how it is :) I watched raw tonight, it was pretty good but lacking something, might be HHH i don't know, i've never been a huge fan of him, but he sure made the best bad-guy ever, i so hated him lol, ok heres my question, we've seen countless legends and old tag team come back in the past months, do you think the wwe did a good job in bringing back these peeps ? i mean i love seeing DX, or the world greatest tag team, but is that because WWE noticed that the fans just love legends and old tags, or is that because they needed to put the show rates back up ? I mean ofcourse I think the biggest lost the WWE ever suffered was The Rock going to make some movies, but now with HHH down for several months, is there some wrestler we know that might come back to make up for the lost of HHH ? or will we see another thing (which was stupid in my opinion) building up a star's rating (like they did for batista) and when people finally like him they will send him to smackdown ? I mean yeah smackdown needed some real champ with huge charisma, but do you think they would make something like that again, or think about bringing back someone from smackdown, and by that i mean a big name (unlike Khali), i'd personaly love to see Taker, Batista or even try to hire back someone like Jericho or The Rock. Neways if you could give me your thoughs on that, that would be appreciated thank you. P.S it is more than unlikely that The Rock will ever come back for good, but a couple matches a year would be awesome.
CRYME TYME in DX. Please tell me that was a joke. As much as i liked DX the first time, the second time is a snoozer. Shawn Michaels i could care less for. HHH as a heel with his sledge hammer beaten everyone down in his quest for the championship is where he is the best. Is this the end for DX, I hope so. John Cena a roided up version of Marky Mark needs to lose the belt. Giving Carlito the coconuts to come and give Vince a calling out was great. But then have him get squashed by someone with no talent like The Great Kali stupid. The guy can't hardly talk not to mention wrestle. Carlito is a great wrestler and fun and exciting to watch on the mic. Could be the next Rock if pushed right. What do you yhink J.R. Rosey and Trump skit was a big mistake but hey this is the same guy who lets The Great Kali get into the ring. Super Crazy on Raw thats great, it will give us something to look forward to,what the heck is he going to try next. A ladder match with Super Crazy, Hardy, and Nitro would be cool or Super Crazy versus RVD would be great. Bring Jerry the King Lawler back as a heel and let him kick some butt like he did when he was in my hometown Louisville ,Ky. not the big sissy he is in the ring at the WWE. Bring the real Lawler back and get rid of Vinny Macs Lawler. Thanks J.R. for thr blog a place where a fan can blow of some steam.
J. R. I kno this is old news, but a long while back, Orton was suspended for about a month or so for what WWE.com could only call "unsportsman-like conduct". If possible, could you fill us in on exactly what Orton did? Even his ring performance gives the impression that he's not much of a professional person backstage.
Hey JR, I watched the Rosie O'Donnell/Donald Trump match and thought of it as an awful angle for the WWE. Please don't tell me Donald Trump is goinf to be with the WWE or, you might here alot of TNA chants. ;)
So, you're superstar of the week is "The Donald's Hair", huh? Wow, I can't believe you actually enjoyed that crap being the respectful old-school commentator you are. I guess everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I kind of thought you were above that kind of stuff...
As I sit watching last night's TNA pay per view and think about the TNA chants that have been cropping up increasingly over WWE programming recently (and the ECW chants that used to plague WWE programming back in the day) I can't help but notice something about WWE...at no point in its history has it ever seemed to generate the resect of its fans enough for them to chant "WWE" or "WWF" in thanks to the organization itself when an amazing or mind-blowing in-ring moment occurs. Why do you think this is?
Hey J.R quick question for ya. I watch the Royal Ruble each year and it always turns out to be great. I love how we usually get a few suprise people who show up for the rumble itself. Can we expect any big suprises this year? Maybe Monty Brown will finally show up? Just wanted to know if you have heard any names flying around that may make the PPV.
Has the WWE ever talked about trying to bring in Kevin Sullivan as a manager, for say the Great Khali. Its getting to the point that you have to get someone to do his talking or the fans will toon him out.....and right now with WM you will need someone bigtime to help put him over with all the talk of a Hogan vs Khali match taken place With a Kevin Sullivan as a Manager for Khali and let him do his old championship wrestling from Florida freek show stuff(like when he had the Purple Haze) and say let Dusty have some input he would be over big time
JR. Comments on the following http://www.wrestlezone.com/article.php?articleid=170815860 ? Why would Men as wise as Finlay and Arn want to DE-PUSH the biggest thing in ECW for spark plug? I know you respect these guys, but I honestly believe WWE is taking hte paying dues thing too far if it wants to create new stars.
Hello Mr.Ross This is my first attempt at this, so here goes nothing. I have been a fan for over 30 years, and have lived and breathed pro-wrestling. My grandfather was a huge fan that would tell me stories of Gorgeous George, Buddy Rogers, Fred Blassie, and Lou Thez. I have read most of the comments left here, and I see most people feel the same way. I guess I will try to leave some positive feedback here. I have been a lifelong Ric Flair fan, so it is awesome to see him still performing..thanks Champ! It was awesome to see Kevin Von Erich on Raw, as I was always a Von Erich fan especially Kerry. I hope that the Von Erichs will get inclusion to the HOF one day. In my area (Columbus Oh-Wheeling WV-Pittsburgh PA) I was really lucky to get to see most of the TV shows that aired (NWA,WWF,AWA,WCCW,Mid-South,UWF,WCW,ECW)from the mid 70's to today, so it was a wrestling paradise. I subscribe to WWE 24/7....and its awesome! But you know the old saying "You can never get enough"! I really like the legends show, and to hear some of the stories is just great! What Dusty said was right, you have surpassed the late great Gordon Solie! So from seeing Superstar pin Bruno, Bob Backlund being the All-American boy, Gagne vs. Bockwinkle, Hulkamania, Bundy and Studd breaking Andres' sternum bone, Flair and Race, the rowdy one, Kerry winning the gold from Flair, the Horseman, Flair and Steamboat, Badstreet Atlanta GA, Abdullah in all his gore, The Roadwarriors vs. The Koloffs, the night Flair wrestled Dick Slater in Wheeling WV, and later buying drinks for everyone at T.J.'s sportsgarden (where the Champs's autograph still adorns the wall), Starcade, Wrestlemania, Bobby Heenan dropping the F-Bomb on live TV, Arn Anderson telling me the worst thing about Wheeling WV was living there, ECW's extreme, Austin vs. McMahon, the Attitude era, the NWO, Goldberg's streak, Smellin' what the Rock was cookin', seeing WCW's demise, HBK's return, Triple H's 10 title reigns, Undertakers wrestlemania streak, RVD finally winning a World's title, to what we have today. Thank you pro wrestling and all involved for keeping me entertained for 30+(since thats what it's about, being entertained. If you don't like it I guess you could always......turn the channel). And here's to 30 more!
Hey J.R., Great blog as always, I enjoy reading these as often as I can. However, with this recent injury to Triple H, do you think this is maybe the time to ease DX down off WWE TV? I don't see Shawn running it all by himself, and I'd hate to see some fill-in replacements like Cryme Tyme as I saw someone suggested previously. Personally I feel that if others are added into DX to replace HHH it could really tarnish a very wondrous legacy. Also, it's no question that the WWE fans were very agressive this past monday night. Even as far as to chant the competitive company's name. Do you feel that Raw has lost it's touch as of late? Personally, WWE is my number one source of Sports Entertainment, and always will be. But if enough fans are demanding something, shouldn't WWE atleast try to provide what they're craving? Or is the fact that they're in the seats and the money is already paid that keeps WWE Creative producing whatever they want despite majority of fans disagreeing with it? Thanks for the blogs J.R., and I'll be continuing to read them. You're still the greatest color commentator on TV right now, hope to hear you on Raw for years and years to come. Thanks for hearing me out, Chris Johnson
