J.R.'s Family Bar-B-Q

Marquis Cor Von... Russ... Punk... HBK... ECW... Stupidity

One of the great things about being a wrestling fan myself and interacting with wrestling fans is their passion. Passion is a great thing when it is pointed in the right direction. As many of you who read the comments can see, some of the folks who communicate with us start making assumptions, become psycho analysts, become the unofficial flag bearers of their favorite wrestlers who are allegedly being scorned or feel their favorite wrestling promotion is not endlessly lauded in this space. I have been accused of “hating” people and of being “dishonest”. Plus I am still thought of as someone who can pick up the telephone and speak with decision makers to change whatever a specific fan doesn’t like. Stop the hallucinations. Put down the crack pipe, please. Let’s set the record straight one more time. 1. I live in Oklahoma and do not attend creative meetings or executive meetings in Connecticut any longer. I chose to move to Oklahoma and am no longer an Executive Vice President of the company or the head of Talent Relations by choice. 2. I do not meet regularly with the Chairman of the WWE as I once did for many years. I do not have “the Chairman’s ear”. This is not a complaint. 3. If one wants a job with the WWE for goodness sakes please remember to check out the company’s corporate website and work thru HUMAN RELATIONS just like any other public company functions. 4. If one wants to become a broadcaster of the WWE then put together a demo reel and get it to the HUMAN RELATIONS DEPARTMENT. 5. Vent all you want, but if you perceive that wrestling is in a “slump” then either ride the slump out or not. I have been in the business for over 30 years so how many “slumps” do you think I have perceived the biz has had and that I worked through? How about dozens of them? I still hung in there and watched the product because I love the business and take the good with the bad just as I do when my OU Sooners lose a college football game. At the end of the day what appears on a wrestling TV show is not nearly as important in one’s life as about 100 other things I can name. Now let’s address some of your comments: Monty Brown debuted as Marquis Cor Von because the publicly traded WWE wanted to own the character’s name and intellectual property. I strongly suggest that the WWE will own the vast majority if not all their performer’s names in the future. Yes, I know it did not used to be that way, but that was then and times have changed. Protecting the company’s intellectual property is an obligation to the stockholders. Personally, I like the name Monty Brown, but this decision apparently wasn’t made based on like but on need and to legally protect the WWE. Bottom line, it is what it is and all the bitching in the world isn’t going to change it. Al- I found your comment to be disturbing. No one is recommending that today’s young wrestlers endure hard ship for the hell of it. “Walk 2 miles to school in the snow barefooted…” What are you smoking?? It is really simple Al. It is all about experiences and not hardships. I can assure you 100% that if today’s wrestlers had the opportunity to ply their trade in a variety of regional territories prior to debuting on global TV for the WWE or any other company that the in ring product would be better and that there would be many more top stars in the hunt for main event spots which would strongly benefit the fans. Andrew in the UK- You blamed me for withholding what Vince McMahon thinks of TNA. You, too, sir are dead wrong. I don’t know what McMahon thinks about this matter. Do you know why? Because I have not asked McMahon his thoughts on TNA because I don’t happen to care what his thoughts are on this subject. As busy as the Chairman of the WWE stays, I doubt very seriously if he even watches the TNA product, but again I don’t know. Nonetheless, your comments are off target and disrespectful in my opinion. Ask all the tough questions you choose, but don’t question my integrity or honesty. David in the UK/Wales- Do you know me well enough to profess my dishonesty? Are you a mind-reader or an expert in human behavior? What if I called you an idiot? Would that be wrong? Of course it would, but that’s how you came off with recent comment. I have NEVER blasted TNA. I did not like the VKM story line but that doesn’t mean I hate the brand! The WWE has story lines I am not crazy about either, but I don’t plan to march on Stamford and I seem to have no issues in cashing their checks. Fans have asked about Stacey Keibler and the lovely young lady from Baltimore is no long under contract to the WWE and is out in Hollywood trying to start an acting career off the heels of her amazing performances on “Dancing With The Stars”. I doubt if Stacey ever returns to the biz, but stranger things have happened. For the Indianapolis fan, Raw returns to Indy on Monday March 19. Good luck to the Colts as even with the home field advantage Sunday in the NFL playoffs, beating Tom Brady’s Pats won’t be easy. For some reason, however, it feels like this “may” be the Colts time. It is hard to go against Belichick and Brady and the Pats playoff successes. This is not a weekend for yours truly to place a friendly wager or two as I am way too conflicted over these games to wager on them. C.M. Punk fans- I don’t judge anyone’s career over wins and loses and especially not over the short haul. Punk has excellent potential and seems to still be a work in progress. I like to watch him wrestle and would love to see him on Raw. Nonetheless, enduring one loss to Bob Holly won’t kill Punk’s career whether the masses agreed with the loss or not. I remember Steve Austin winning hardly any matches for a year or more and his fans hung with him until Austin finally got his break. Punk is one of the reasons I watch ECW every Tuesday night. Flair-Foley 2006 rivalry? I really liked it largely because of the verbal skills of each participant. Ric and Mick can verbally hang with any one in the business which is what made this matter so personal and fun to follow. Personal issues draw money but before any personal issue can take off the fans have to have made an emotional investment in the participants. I get lots of questions about a “new” Hart Foundation, etc. I don’t even know if this is going to happen or is even under consideration. I also don’t know if the younger Harts want to travel down that road. I am not sure I would if I were them, but would instead want to establish my own legacy. Teddy Hart has significant in-ring skills but has made some errors in judgement over the years that have cost him some opportunities. I think I remember hiring him twice when I was in charge of WWE talent. Perhaps Teddy has matured now to where he can handle the responsibilities of being on the road full time because there is no question that physically, Teddy is gifted. Someone compared Bob Holly to Stan Hansen as far as aggressiveness is concerned. That may not be fair because Stan was 300 pounds worth of toughness while Bob is around 60 or 70 pounds less of toughness. Both are tougher than $2 steaks but Hansen gets the nod here because he is simply a bigger dog in the fight. Yoyo Pogo- Coming all the way from Ireland for Wrestlemania 23! Congrats! I hope you have a great time and enjoy the USA. I am afraid HHH will be unable to wrestle at ‘Mania this year do to his quadriceps surgery but nonetheless it is Wrestlemania and it will be a helluva event to witness no matter who is in the main event. Your girlfriend did well with scoring the tickets! Kelvin- I have addressed Kevin Kelley’s announcing before, but I always felt like KK was an excellent announcer with passion and product knowledge. He was enjoyable to work with and was a true student of the game. Why didn’t he make it in the WWE? I certainly don’t think it was because he was a bad announcer. But, I don’t know all about the behind the scenes issues he may have encountered which are not foreign to the WWE of any other large company. Kevin was always professional to me and we seemed to get along just fine. I wish him well. Samuel etoo- No Samuel I don’t “hate” Luger or Savage. Sorry to disappoint you. Savage belongs in the WWE HOF while I feel Luger does not at this time. That’s my OPINION which is my right and it is not based on “hate”. I can honestly say I don’t “hate” any one in this business even though there are people I would prefer to not be around and, no, I am not going to provide a list of their names. This isn’t the “National Enquirer”. I totally agree that the WWE should have a separate building to house the WWE Hall of Fame. I know this has been discussed. I don’t know where it would be located but if you build it they will come…so to speak. And yes, one of the great ribbers, flying villains and long time superstars, Mr. Fuji will most likely be in the hall of fame in the future. No, I don’t know when. ECW- This subject always strikes a hot button with many of ECW’s long time fans. The closest these die hard fans, who I do have great respect for, will ever get to the old ECW is by watching WWE 24/7. That is where I get my “fix” of wrestling from back in the day more often than not. The product has changed and many of us traditionalists have to either change with it or wait until the current trends change again. And they will. The fact that the ECW wrestlers are on the road with the Smackdown wrestlers as they make their way to the Tuesday TV day makes it cost prohibitive to shoot the ECW show in South Philly or the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. I have actually seen the numbers and it unfortunately will not work. I was a fan of the old ECW and watch every Tuesday night the new ECW to see how it is going to evolve and who the ECW stars of tomorrow are going to be. I wish wrestling shows of today were more like the Mid South shows of the 80s but that is not going to happen either. I will continue to watch the product because I am a fan….of what I individually perceive to be good wrestling and what I perceive to be bad wrestling which boils down to only one man’s opinion. To the Finley fan out there, I don’t think Finley is too old to be a champion. Finley can wrestle and is so fundamentally sound that the Irishman can beat anyone on a given night. So Victoria wanted to be in Playboy but it didn’t happen. I don’t think I ever talked to Victoria about this matter but I do know it takes two to tango and if Playboy was more interested in another Diva then the magazine’s decision weighs heavily on who ultimately appears in the magazine. With that said, I would enjoy Victoria’s presence in the publication if it were to happen. I am a big fan of ESPN’s Bill Simmons who writes for their website and their magazine and has mentioned the WWE and wrestling in general on numerous occasions. I have heard from other sources that Bill is a long time fan as is Stephan A. Smith of ESPN. To the fan who asked about travel, the WWE has a full time travel department who have the responsibility of making sure all the folks that need to be at a specific place get there safely and on time. These individuals have a thankless job but do a helluva job in moving so many people around the world 51 weeks a year. Yes, all the announcers wear headsets so we can hear ourselves, the crowd, our partners, and the individuals who provide info, instructions, direction, etc into the headsets. These headsets can be a blessing or a curse…trust me. For fans who want to get autographs, I suggest you either hang out at your local airport’s baggage claim, a hotel you may think the wrestlers are staying or get to the arena early and try and get access to the wrestlers as they arrive. These are some of the things fans do but there is no guarantee as it all comes down to timing and good fortune. How much longer am I going to announce? That all depends on my health and desire to continue to travel weekly. I am taking it one year at a time and will make a decision as to whether I will stick around another year by this fall. I have casually said I would like to make it until Wrestlemania 25 but who knows? The WWE may not want me back this fall when my contract expires so there are many variables involved in this matter that I cannot address with total certainty. I know this. I still love the business and look forward to going to work every week and broadcasting on the most watched and influential and successful wrestling TV show in television history. When things stop being fun, that is when I stay at home. That time has not arrived yet. I am often asked to comment on Vince Russo. I have spoken to Vince a few of times over the past few years especially when I was ill and had colon surgery. We have no lingering issues between us. There is no “hate” that exists which I know will disappoint some “hate mongers”. When I broadcast wrestling with Vince he was nervous and inexperienced but he did his best. Announcing wrestling wasn’t Russo’s calling at that time and it is not an easy job. Did I like all his creative ideas when he was writing? No. Does that make Russo a bad or a stupid person? No. My tastes in wrestling are more sports/athletic based while Russo liked shock TV a la Howard Stern’s radio show or “Crash TV” as it were. Bottom line is that Russo wrote some shows that got big numbers and that was what he was paid to do. We both have moved on from any issues we have had in the past. Isn’t that the healthy thing to do? Another title run for HBK? Is this possible? Hell yes it is possible. HBK is still one of the best 2-3 in-ring performers alive for my money and has proven on many occasions he can have a classic match with a wide variety of opponents. I am a huge believer in Shawn Michaels. Due to the 911 tragedy in the USA there are issues shipping liquids to the UK and beyond. We are working on it as we speak but there is tons of red tape and political issues we have to deal with in order to ship our delicious sauces to the UK. We can ship our shirts, caps, and books nonetheless. We are trying to work with a UK company to become our distributor there and I will keep everyone posted. As far as having our Bar-B-Q trailer in Detroit for Wrestlemania we are not planning for it at this time. I do think it is a good idea though. Thanks for visiting our store and for becoming a customer. If you haven’t become a customer we encourage you to do so. The feedback we are getting on our merchandise and sauces is heart warming and much appreciated. Our first restaurant opens in Norman, Oklahoma in the spring of 2007 just off I 35 and Main Street. Exciting times lie ahead! Thanks and we will have more blogs this weekend. J.R.

hey JR great blog and your site is awesome keep up the good work I enjoy hearing u announce raw every monday
what happen to cryme time
hey JR have you heard of abyss he is currently 6ft8 300 pounds I Think If he comes to wwe and quits tna he would probably feud with people like mark henry, viscera, bobby lashley, kane, undertaker, umaga, snitnsky, batisita, chris masters and great khail and also is scott hall coming back to the wwe or will he go to tna?
Mr. Ross, I was wondering and hoping that there may be some more Diva action in the WWE. The only ones you really here about is Melina, Mickey James and Ashley and thats only because they're always revolving around the Womens Championship. I personally would like to have more than just one Diva storyline. Especcially since there are so many Divas out there like Kelly Kelly, Layla, McCool, and Maria and Wilson.
hey j.r i also heard a rumor that scott hall is returning to wwe is this true
hey j.r is the old ecw old belts are going to return to the new ecw
Hey J.R great read and I know that wrestling 'right now' aint as high as it should be but that will change.I love listening to you on Raw and i know the brands will get better. Keep up the good work and as for Marquis Cor Von no matter what his name is as long as he performs as well as he did for the other company then all should be well as it doesn't matter what name you go by as long as your heart is in the game that all that counts.
1/27/07 Dear Jim Ross, I couldn't help but notice you appeared to respond in a very agitated way to some fan who felt pro wrestling was in a "slump". Now, as an avid pro wrestling for over a decade, I have seen the same ups and downs that you have, but is there honestly any reason to alienate fans who are overwhelmingly unsatisfied with the current product they are being sold, by giving them a ultimatum (to ride the slump to tune-out). These fans, as you have said before, spend their hard-earned money to watch and support their favorite WWE superstars, and have remained loyal to the product. Before you ask fans to tune-out, you better hope Vince McMahon and his creative "team" have the good sense to better serve these fans. Seeing the same song and dance every week has become more than mundane. Mundane Night Raw if you will... I attended the January 2, 2006 RAW from Continental Airlines Arena, which was the last vigorous crowd I have seen at a RAW show since. This crowd had a true disdain for John Cena, as he was being shoved down fans throats for over a year, and the same crowd loved Kurt Angle because he was truly entertaining. So what the WWE do? Let's Kurt Angle slip through their fingers, and carries on with their "Cena-Epic". Dull? I believe so. As far as your commentating: you must stop treating this professional wrestling "entertainment" program as a proverbial "Saturday Morning Cartoon". To have people interested in a pro wrestling product they should either believe that the outcome of the matches matter. However, lately, with you're lackluster attitude and Jerry Lawler's detached psyche, RAW appears, on many levels, to be meaningless and just a prelude to the following week (which is again a prelude to the following week). We would rather not see the WWE carry on in such a comedic, or should I say, tragic fashion. Feel empowered JR, speak up a little and show the passion you used to have, back when I was truly entertained by the WWE product and good ol' JR. In closing, I hope we see this "slump" as you call it, disappear before the next generation of fans waiting in line is so turned-off by the product that there is no one left to vent. Venting is caring, but if no ones venting, than nobody cares. Sincerely yours, Joe Proscia
Hi JR, I was watching smackdown and was SO happy to finally see the debut of Deuce Domino and Cherry. So much talent and charisma what a great package. My question is, what has happened to gimmicks like this? Yeah sure you get some bad ones, but am i the only one that sits up and pays attention to deuce and domino and cryme tyme yet shrugs my shoulders at London and Kendrick and Regal and Taylor etc etc? I like the gimmicks. Its part of the package, presentation, entertainment. D+D gave me more entertainment in 5 minutes than Cena gave me in a year.
Also do you like tna because personally it think wwe will give it a slobber knocker as you would say jr. King should be world champ again. Thanks J.R.
I WAS WATCHING THE BEST DAMN SPORT SHOW BOUT 4 MONTHS AGO WHEN THEY HAD STING ON AND THEY WERE COMMEPLENTING ON A RECENT MAGAGIZINE WHERE THE ROCK SAID THAT HE WOULD LOVE TO TAKE ON THE STINGER IN A WRESTLING MATCH WOULD YOU THINK THIS COULD BE A WM24 MAIN EVENT AND MAYBE AWAY FOR ROCK TO GET BACK INTO THE WRESTLING GAME CAN U SMELL WAT I AM COOKING?
Hey J.R., Just wondering what your thoughts would be ona fatal 4-way match for the WWE Championship at Mania. Cena VS HBK VS Edge VS Orton. I think think personally think this match would be excellent. Also, i think its about time Chris Benoit got a World Title push on Smackdown, what a tremendous athlete. Thanks Mark, UK
also, is WWE ever come back to Calgary Alberta,Canada because we are waiting up here, its been long time!
Hey J.R, i was wondering what the WWE has planned for Shannon Moore lately because he rarely has any TV time on ECW and What are your thoughts on "The Reject". *Please Reply, thanks*
Dear J.R,I think that your website is amazing.I was wondering if we could ever see kane as wwe champion again, next year will be the ten year aniversary of his god awfull short title reing. Do you think that he is in the line of a good push? I was just wpndering because i think kane gets overlooked alot and gets stuck with some horrible storylines and rivels,snitsky,m.v.p ,the whole "may 19" thing well hope you reply.
Hey JR Great blog, I have a question thats bothered me for a while and i thought u might be able to give me an answer or at least an opion, why does everyone say the reason for shelton benjamin not getting a push is due to lack of charisma and verbal skills but lashly who has even less ( in my opion he has less anyway) gets a world title run? I just wanted your opion on the matter. Keep up the great work on monday nights.
Hey JR, i was just wondering if u think Shelton Benjamin will ever become a main event player? I think he's one of the 2 or 3 best wrestlers in the business but wwe seems to disagree based on what i see every monday. Also i was wonderin who in your opion is the top 5 guys in wwe today? Great blog really enjoy it and i look forward to your response.
Jim Ross, My name is collin seifert. I am a hug wrestling fan. I have been a fan since i have been about 8 years old and i am 27. I wanting to know if AJ Styles could fight anyone in the ring in the WWE who would be the best 5 star match and why? Also do you think they will ever push shawn michaels as a heal. Also have you talked to triple h recently and if so how is he doing. Do you think TNA could be a threat to the WWE future. You can send your response to me at my email address floridaseminoleslions@yahoo.com collin
Hey JR good blog, I was just wondering if there is any chance the Hardcore Title could return. I think the 24/7 Rule was a cool idea. Why did they stop it?
You were talking about territories, as well as wrestlers having more skill due to experiences if there were territories today. Would you consider Ring Of Honor a territory, and wrestlers from ROH or any other independent promotion to be more equipped in the art of wrestling. I know that all depends on the experiences you have in the business. CM punk came from Ring Of Honor and he has unlimited potential. I believe CM Punk will be a main star in the coming years. TNA has a lot of ROH stars that have really shown that they can be main eventers: Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Alex Shelley, etc… What do you think about the Alex Shelley, Austin Starr, Kevin Nash X-Division. You can really feel the chemistry when these three come on.
Do you ever see another match between hulk hogan and randy savage ever taking place. maybe the war to settle the score. Do you think cm punk may be in the money in the bank ladder match at wrestlemania. You were talking about territories, and wrestlers being better if there were territories today. Would you consider Ring Of Honor a territory, and wrestlers from ROH or any other independent promotion to be more equipped in the art of wrestling. I know that all depends on the experiences you have in the business. TNA has a lot of ROH stars that have really shown that they can be main eventers: Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Alex Shelley, etc...What do you think about this topic. What do you think about the Alex Shelley, Austin Starr, Kevin Nash X-Division. You can really feel the chemistry with these three come on.
And if you apply to WWE Human Resources, please don't mention if you have any wrestling experience. Trust me, I'm in an office with a guy that has 18 years worth of quality experience, and they shoot him down every time he comes up for an interview. They tend to hire a fresh college kid who's wrestling experience entails having seen a Diva in Playboy. Guess that's why the WWE's shows look the way they do.
Mr. Ross, any word if this year's WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony will be televised?
"hyped up on mountain dew!??!" that was priceless JR
Kenny Dykstra reminds me of Owen Hart a little.
Hey JR, I am one of your biggest fans ever. I came to your autograph session in Ridgewood, NJ at BookEnds. It was one the greatest days of my life to meet you. My question to you is what is your favorite Wrestlemania? I have followed you for a long time now and think you are the best announcer ever. -Alexander
It's been a while, what do you think of the possibility of another draft lottery this year? Or at least a couple of roster trades between Raw and Smackdown (ECW hasn't been around long enough to really be involved as the roster is still reasonably fresh.) Guys like Edge and Kennedy could really benefit from it, given how they have both seemingly had lengthy feuds with most of the guys on their rosters (who are of opposite face/heel to them.)
JR, I'm a huge fan of yours and have been since I first saw you on TBS. Thanks for taking the time to write these blogs and answer our questions. I'm sorry some people aren't as courteous and respectful as they should be. My question for you is whether or not you have watched the documentary "Heroes of World Class" and if so what your thougts are on it. PS: My wife is from Edmond, Oklahoma so next time we are there you can bet I'll make the drive to Norman to check out the restaurant! Ush
Hey J.R! What do you think of Jeff Hardy since his return to the WWE? Personally i think he has been nothing short of exceptional. One of the many reasons i watch Raw is to see Jeff's match and they are always entertaining. Do you think we could see him as a main event star in time to come? Also when do you think we will see your products over in the UK?
Hey J.R. it's me again.I also would like to be working for the wwe one day,(relax,i'm not asking you a job, lol)as a colunist, writer or booker,i hope it can happen one day.Czar has a good point there and i agree with him!!!!I mean,we have to complaint, afterall we are the support of the wwe.We are the fans,we pay to see the shows, the ppv's and we watch the tv shows. So we have the right to say that wwe is not a good product to watch,is actually terrible nowadays.and wwe can't just say for us to change the channel or they won't have respect for us.If we like wwe we don't want to change the channel,we want quality in what they present to us.If we do change the channel and stop going to the shows, you will all be out of job.Nobody's saying it's your fault, off course it's not,but if your speaking about wrestling and giving your opionion,so are we,and as fans we have that right!!!And i feel proud to able to talk about it with someone like you,who knows what you're talking about, and who has a true passion for the business.I wouldlike to know your opinion on John Cena as a performer.Mine is that he has very little in-ring ability and he shouldn't be champion anymore.and what do you think that the wm 23 main event should be?And please answer to the hbk question i made before.Keep up the good work,i hope you keep announcing for many years.
Mr. Ross, What is in your opinion the, or a few of the, best wrestling schools today? I was looking at Heartland in Cinnci and WWA4, the former PowerPlant in Atlanta, but an expert's opinion obviously wouldn't hurt...Love the blogg. Keep up the good work on mic. Although I would have loved to hear you and Heenan together at some point... Jake
Hi JR, I have only just found this blog and appreciate you taking the time to answer fan questions like this. I only have one question and it is this... Do you think squash matches will ever make it back to WWE television? They gave a lot of youngsters TV time and served to get a wrestlers' move-set over greatly. Furthermore, they made the "Superstar vs. Superstar" matches a lot more special!
Hey JR. First off, I´m a huge fan of yours. RAW is coming to Portugal in June, and I´d like for you to give your thoughts on this, if possible of course. JC (On The Edge)
JR, I hope you liked the blog I posted for you to read, I was really suprised it was used. I was excited this morning and asked my mom if she had enjoyed to read it. She proudly said yes and told me that you probably think it was written by college graduate!!! That is not the case however for I am only Sixteen! That again proves what you have done for me!
Hate to bug you Mr. Ross, but could you comment on the recent releases. Al Snow can still do very well if given a chance, and Sylvester Terkay is very new and doing quite well. I can understand some releases, like Gangrel and the Bashams because they don't do much lately. But what about active wrestlers, like Terkay and Tatanka?
Just a quick question, will wwe247 be available in the UK any time soon?
Hi Little Jimmy Ross, how's it going bah gawd? I constantly see people on your website asking about getting hold of your Good Ol' BBQ sauce in the UK, and I would just like to let you know that I have gotten hold of some. A friend of mine ordered some of the WWE.com Euroshop a few years ago for my Birthday, due in part to knowing how much I love you and your 100x Black Resistol cowboy hat. Alas I have not tried the sauce due to it being more of a collectors item for me, what with the little hat on the top. I feel that someday it could be worth some money. So due to this I was wondering how come it is hard for people to get hold of your sauce, as I have had this bottle for only 3 years maximum, well after 9/11. Keep up the good work J.R. I look forward to Mania 23 and your awesome announcing.
You know, HBK vs Cena really doesn't seem like the best Main Event. Cena is the posterboy for WWE, DX is basically the fan favorite, so putting two of the biggest draws in the WWE really is hard to work out. DX would have to turn heel, which would be bad, Cena turning Heel is even worse, and Umaga vs Cena for the WWE title AT Wrestlemania seems horrendous. To me, WWE seems to have left itself into a pickle. HBK is busy with Rated RKO, so we might see a handicap match between them at WM. Edge and Cena has already happened, therefore, WWE is screwed for Wrestlemania. Honestly, I do not know where exactly I am not going with this. But all I am really sure of is that WWE can not use Umaga for WM's main event. He hasn't been with Cena long enough. HBK/Cena is WWE's only real hope of making a main event, and an interesting one at that.
ok im the guy who left the comment about kane getting a title run. i also have a suggestion, but i know you probably cannot change this but i used to enjoy when you and king used to disagree, and king always sided with most of the heels, and drooled over the PUPPIES, but now you both always agree, and its not fun to listen to two of the same opinions. also, why does the king keep getting in the ring. like eric bischoff said in his book (a great read) announcer should not try and steal the show from the talent, they should do their job and announce not get in the ring. one thing i have always admired about you is that you never tried to steal the spotlight. anyways just to let you know i just started watching wrestling again in november after maybe a 4 year hiatus. i started watching again because i heard DX was back, but then i watched and was like wow this is not funny or cool anymore. too the guy who was comparing tna's x division and the cruiserweight division, do you watch the same programs i do? samoa joe was an x division champ, all 292 pounds of him. the x division title is like the intercontinental title (which has no cred anymore). also jr i just wanted to say the day stone cold came back and beat the crap out of bischoff and you were screaming was my most memorable moment ever watching wrestling and i just want to thank you.
Hello god ol' JR. I have 2 very simple questions and opinions. I see CM Punk as a worker who reminds me of a younger Shawn Michaels. He is talented, charismatic, and according to my girlfriend "dead smexy." What do you think of this opinion. My second question regards CM Punk in a title run? do you see it happening soon? Thanks for your time. Always a fan. Br@ulio
JR: Do you see a match between Edge and Randy Orton at Wrestlemania. I can see the start of this being a great feud for 2007 with Edge bailing on Orton last week on Raw. Then Cryme Tyme taking the belts at the Rumble and winning the tag team belts once again with Edge spearing Orton. I can also see either Edge/Orton eliminating the other one from the Royal Rumble and just going from there. Possibly a steel cage or Chairs on a pole match at Wrestlemania with the feud escalating from there. In this I can see Orton as being the face and Edge as a heel. Do you see this as a possible feud as well?
Hey JR im from ny and i love shows at the garden, the building just has a great feel to it when your there ,so what is the reason the shows arent booked there as much as they used to be?It used to be every 4 or 5 months you guys were there and now not even once a year.
So JR, when can we get a WCW tribute dvd? I mean they influenced alot of stuff that goes on in WWE. NWO for an example... DX.
Dear Jim, My name is Jimmy Roberts and I am in a wheelchair,I have been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy since the days shortly after my premature birth. I, a wrestling fanatic,am an aspiring journalist and wrestling commentator much like yourself. You beyond all people, are my favorite person in the world. Your straight forward commentary and love for the sport of Pro Wrestling are two very honorable attributes. I believe with every fiber in my body that you should have a spot in the hall of fame.(Between Bret Hart and The Hulkster would prove to be a more than fitting locale)You deserve to be inducted into the HOF not only because you are arguably the greatest voice in all of sports-Entertainment but because you give kids like me hope. After my dad died, it was that good Ol' Oklahoma voice of yours that kept me going. Without you or the WWE superstars I don't no what my terms of thinking would be, and in all honesty I'm quite sure I wouldn't care. Thanks to you I found something I can put my life into and that is undoubtedly writing, I hope to one day be a columnist for WWE Magazine and I dream of calling a match with you. I am honored to be able to share my views and truly tell you how great of an impact you have had on my life. You have given me something better than front row seats at the 'mania or even a world title to lay proudly around my waist, you have given me your heart and soul, and for that I thank you. With sincere thoughts and warm regards, James Roberts of Ft Lauderdale, FL PS. When will the great one get back in the ring-if ever- and Why isn't Owen Hart a featured wrestler in the Smackdown video-games, the Hart Foundation will never be complete without him and I truly think that both the fans and his legacy would be honored supremely if he was.
I was curious as to what you think of Wrestling Society X? I know it's not on until the 30th of January, but I'm assuming you've seen some of the previews. It looks like it will be more along the lines of CZW, NJAP, ROH, and the other higher flying car crash indy promotions, rather than the more traditional manor of WWE. I'm just wondering if this exposure will be a good thing for the business or if it will be more of a double-edged sword?
Hey JR, hope everything is good with you and your family :) I understand the whole re-naming of Monty Brown a lot better now, it does certainly make better business sense than leaving him as Monty Brown, even though his NFL past could have been played on more-so for my money. Also I can vouch for you on the never having blasted TNA thing JR if you need some silly lad from the UK to stick up for you lol. I ALWAYS read your TNA related comments simply because I'm a big TNA fan, well wrestling fan in general of around 16 years, well as long as i can remember, i'm only 23 haha, and you alongside Jim Cornette are two of the people who's opinions have always seemed pretty close to mine so i like to see what you think of things i like. so yeah to clarify JR has NEVER blasted TNA, id have noticed lol. Also, swift question JR, do you keep in contact with people from the past within the business? Just it strikes me as a kind of situation where one can lose contact a lot and just wondered if this is the case? Cheers JR, good wishes from the UK *Craig*
I was just reading some of your old blogs and you mentioned that not too many people could beat Mike Tyson in WWF trivia. That brought up a slightly unrelated question to my mind and that's simply: Do you know why WWE is not allowed to use the old WWF scratch logo anymore? I understand that they lost the battle over the WWF name, but I can't see the reasoning behind not letting the WWE present the scratch logo in archived footage. One last question would be seeing you are a fan of WWE 24\7, do you feel that the constant blurring of the old scratch logo takes away from the overall product, especially the few times a large percentage of the screen is blurred. (Royal Rumble 2000 comes to mind) I appologize in advance if this has been asked before.
Hey J.R.First i would like to apologize for any mistakes in my writing, but as yo ucan see i'm from Portugal.I would like to say that i think you're defenitely one of the bigest announcers ever.I'm a huge fan of your unique style and i think you and king form a wonderful team. However,i would like to ask you to sincerely answer to the following: I truly believe when you speak about hbk's abilities and i also believe that he is one of the best ever, but do you really think he could ever have a title run again?I mean,i know he has the potential to do it,bu all of us that are not marks also know that is injuries,is will to take some time out,and also the fact that vince will not problaly risk to give him a title run because if he was injured while holding the title, with would cost a lot of money to the company.(it's understandable)So my question is,looking at things in a realistic way do you realy think that hbk can have a title run again? If you do,why do you think it?And please don´t answer with the same old answers of him being talented and all because i already know that. Please continue the good work,i would hate to see raw loose you as an announcer. Ps:I know the business is having a hard time, but i also think that some backstage politics are killing some companies and some superstars, and that's not the fans fault and they don't have to understand that cause it's unecceptable.Dont you think?
JR i am a huge fan of monday night Raw and your work with Jerry Lawler. i Have one or two questions regarding the WWE.first do you think that keeping John Cena the champion is a good idea?. his fan base is mainly made up of children and his wrestling skills are completely awful there are plenty of superstars on Raw that would make a better champion than him. Secondly if you could choose 3 superstars to return to the WWE who would they be?
The thing is, JR, that when the WWE gobbled up all territories and it's competition, it all but gave viewers not only the right, but the invitation to complain as much as we want. Everyone who complains and is frustrated loves professional wrestling. And when the product that is being rammed down our throat, three nights a week, is not very entertaining, it's very, very frustrating. The WWE has the capability of having the best athletes, the best wrestlers, and the best quality product of any wrestling show on Earth. And when all three shows suffer from the same short-sighted stupid mentality, the fans suffer. No, it's not okay to tell us to stop watching. WWE is not just another TV show. It's not so simple and you as much as anyone knows this. The WWE is a combination of a TV show and a sporting event. It's a mix of characters and physical and mental conflict. Being so unique, it is NOT something we should just turn off if we don't like it. Why? Because if everyone stopped showing up to arenas and stopped watching the shows on TV, it wouldn't force the WWE to step it's game up. It would cause the WWE to go out of business. No TV channel would carry it. Instead, due to venting frustrations, many fans are trying to get someone, anyone's attention before it goes down that route. Scoff if you'd like but just like WCW and countless other promotions, so too could the WWE fall. TNA isn't a viable competetion product so it's not enough just to watch that over WWE. The WWE still has wrestlers worth watching. They still have top-notch TV production values. Vince may have the great knack of tricking the viewers into thinking that what he's giving them is what they want but that charm is quickly losing it's luster. When RAW matches average 3 minutes and Smackdown can't keep a decent storyline for more then a week without dropping, forgetting or ruining it, it's the fans RIGHT to complain loud and clear. I do not believe just tuning out is the answer. That doesn't make it better, it just ruins it for the faithful supporters. Some complaints are silly and petty. But most complaints just aren't about the complaints themselves. They are representative of the IDEA behind it. You might dismiss the complaints of the stupid name Marquis Cor Von. But instead, think about how it represents the concept of "setting someone up to fail". Bring in a guy, make him "heelish", give him a non-catchy and non-wrestlingesque name, and give him a crowd-pleasing finisher. Then expect people to get behind or against him? No one is saying his name HAS to be Monty Brown. But couldn't ANYONE come up with something better? They'll probably drop the first name and start calling him Cor Von soon anyway. Sheesh. The crowd is more excited then they have been for months with the Hardy Boyz back together. So you break them up? It's not just the Hardy Boyz themselves. It's about taking something away that the crowd is really into, and for what? To bring them back a few months later and wonder why nobody is into it anymore? In order to control the audience Vince will give, then take away. But how many times will he take away for too long and it ends up ruining it? It happens all the time now. All we as viewers ask is that somebody in the WWE RUN WITH WHAT WORKS AND STOP FORCING THAT WHICH DOESN'T DOWN OUR THROATS. The Ken Kennedy-Undertaker-Bastisa angle is being built wonderful. The Batista-Booker T angle was horrible from the start and they had no chemisty. So what happened? We were force fed it for months. How many times is Benoit going to beat Chavo? It's not even interesting. How many times will Helms face Hardy...it was good at first but then just a bad joke with no where to go. How many times will DX steal Cena's spotlight until it ruins Cena's special chemistry? How many times will Boogeyman eat worms? It was funny and gross and intriguing at first. Now it's a channel-changer. That which doesn't grow or build stagnates. And that's what the WWE is doing. We have every right to complain. You sit here and you write your comments, JR but take people to task for doing the same thing. No, they shouldn't be directed at you as if you have something to do with it but you, as much as anyone in your company should be wise to heed our warnings. Because the day we all stop tuning in is the day a lot of fine young men and men will be out of jobs. And then what?
