Hogan vs. Savage... JBL... Sid... Mid South... Cruise

Posted in:
That 4:30 a.m. wake up call came awfully early Tuesday morning but that was what The King and I had to do to make our 6 a.m. flights home from Lafayette, Louisiana. Working in Lafayette brings back lots of memories of some emotional nights in southwest Louisiana when fans would literally attempt to maim the bad guys for screwing over the heroes. I have always said that a great wrestling antagonist is one that by their actions and words can motivate a fan to purchase a ticket to a live event and go to the trouble and expense of leaving their home, traveling to and from the event, parking, concessions, and not to mention the cost of the tickets. All the talent knew each market for a variety of reasons, women, food, hotel, etc as they played these towns weekly on the same nights of the week. In other words, there was a circuit or a route that was scheduled for the wrestlers to work as much as 7-8 times per week. Because there were no guaranteed, formal contracts in those days a man’s word was his bond and if you did not work you did not get paid. So wrestlers worked even when many of them shouldn’t have, due to injuries or other issues. One of the things wrestlers remember towns for is the security that was provided for them in the arenas. Emotionally and beer fueled fans would erase their inhibitions and simply have a helluva night cheering the ever challenged hero and jeering the “cheat to gain an advantage but bad to the bone when on the offensive” antagonist. Having the house darkened and only lighting the ring also added to the chaos and the overall mood of the event. Those were amazing times and as a young referee in my early 20s, many nights the antagonists prevailed, which often times involved a controversial officiating call which did not make yours truly the most popular guy in the neighborhood. But, I often made $40-60 per night! (out of that came my expenses) I rarely traveled alone so I usually had “back-up” if things got out of hand. Raw emotion was on display essentially 7 nights a week if everyone was doing their jobs correctly. It was the last of an era that will most likely never be replicated again. James Roberts- I truly hope your dreams become realities. Never stop dreaming and never stop pursuing your goals. Anything can happen if you stay in the hunt. I’m pulling for you! We get lots of emails about Kane. I am very high on Kane’s abilities and am proud that I helped facilitate his hiring in the WWE. Kane is a gifted athlete who I think was more unique when he was masked. There is no reason Kane could not go back there if he chose to and certainly “the Big Red Machine” would make a great, competitive champion. I generally think that amateur wrestlers and ex-football players have the potential to make solid pro wrestlers and better than the majority of body builders and non athletes who have great looks. Marketable looks are essential in today’s marketplace but that means to me to be in excellent, athletic shape and not necessarily an “Arnold’s Classic” only type of body. To be a great wrestler one must be naturally athletic and often times amateur wrestlers and football players fit the bill for a recruit as it relates to mental and physical toughness, playing on a team, and being able to be motivated and coached up. It isn’t a fool proof formula, but I would bet on it more often than not. JBL’s announcing work has been a popular topic. JBL has done an amazing job for being in the role such a short time. John should only get better as time goes by. He is bombastic, entertaining, informed, and caustic enough to keep me involved in the broadcast. JBL fills a niche that used to be the norm but now is unique in being an antagonist color analyst. I hope to work with him some day…..maybe even at the Royal Rumble this Sunday. Who knows? I don’t know for 100% sure but I am pretty sure that Psycho Sid is able to wrestle again after healing from his severely broken leg. I seem to recall Sid wrestling at a small event in the Memphis area a while back, but I am sure some one will know. I have heard nothing of Sid returning to the WWE but that doesn’t mean that he won’t. Sid had a great face and frame for a wrestler and I hope he is healthy. Maybe there is some gas left in the tank. Colts vs. Bears—-This is pretty early for a Super Bowl prediction but I am sentimentally pulling for the Bears because of all the Oklahoma kids playing for Chicago. Close to the “big game” is when we will talk Indy-Chicago. I don’t talk about contracts here as in when they end, etc. That is not ethical and serves no purpose. If wrestlers choose to move on for whatever the reason, usually money or creative, then so be it. When someone leaves or is injured it creates an opportunity for some one else or that is what I have been taught. I try not to spend much time worrying about who is not happy with creative or whatever and that said wrestler may end up leaving. Because I cannot solve these perceived issues I, choose not to dwell on them. I do know that often times the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence and over the long haul it isn’t. Will Matt Hardy be the World’s Champion in 2007? I love Matt, and Jeff for that matter, but the answer would be “high unlikely.” Matt is an excellent in-ring performer and someday I think Matt might be “the man’ but I do realistically feel it will be farther down the road. If I owned a territory, the Hardys would be hired in a heart beat. Someone asked me the whereabouts of my old broadcast colleague Chris Cruise, who I worked with for a while at WCW/TBS. Chris was a interesting guy who was highly intelligent, which might have been why some felt Chris wasn’t a perfect fit in the business. I found Chris to be a student of the game, a hard worker, and a much better announcer than he was ever given credit for being. I think that today Chris is in the mortgage business or some sort of financial oriented business on the East Coast. I feel, don’t know for sure, the issue about why the WWE is not running more events in Madison Square Garden is all about the financial arrangement the arena charges the WWE now. Long story short, it is all about the cash as the Garden is expensive to operate. I still think the WWE and MSG will do business in the future but have no clue as to when these issues will be rectified. The “Heroes of World Class Wrestling” DVD is on my list of things to watch. Friends have told me they enjoyed it even though it was not real slick from a production standpoint. Nonetheless, count me in on this one. The WWE should be able to do some awesome DVDs and WWE 24/7 content with the World Class library now in house. I can’t wait to see some of the offerings and the titles are endless. How the Von Erich-Freebird saga unfolded was text book stuff. I have not heard if the WWE Hall of Fame will be on USA Network this year or not. I assume that is a USA decision. The HOF Ceremony will make a helluva DVD nonetheless. Honestly, if the event is not on live or taped live TV, it might make it a better event to attend. One has to feel badly about all the folks that lost their jobs in recent days. That is never a good thing but it an unfortunate part of the process. I know the feeling from both sides of the fence. It doesn’t feel good on either side, trust me. Hopefully, those that have the desire and drive to continue will do so and continue to chase their dreams. Others may want to explore other options. I do know there are some talented people who are looking for work, but I also know that everyone isn’t cut out for this business. The Ring of Honor definitely is a great training ground and feature some amazing performers. Any company would be wise to keep an eye on ROH and watch their young talent develop. In lieu of the dozens of territories wrestlers years ago where could earn a living and improve their game at the same time, ROH is a much needed alternative. I wish them success. I have only seen a limited number of their DVDs, but I love the effort of the wrestlers. Will Hulk ever wrestle Savage again? I say no, but if the money was right….....you never know brother! Will any book I write after leaving wrestling walk a “company line” or will I tell the truth? Sounds like someone wants or needs “the dirt” the way the question was posed. Any book of my life will be 100% the truth. Lawyers and publishers often times affect what makes the final edit but I don’t plan on writing any fiction if I actually ever do the project. We’re not there yet. Thanks and tell your friends about our site and visit our online store. Our sauces are the best and I invite you to try them or some of our exclusive, Slobber-Knocker signed merchandise. We do appreciate your business. More blogs are on their way…. J.R.

will the wwe ever return to saint john N.B in good ol canada?
My question is why are mangers all but gone from the WWE?I know they where often used to talk for and help get guys over and some still need it.Such as Chris Masters .Imagine him with Bobby Heenen!
Hi J.R I have another question thats been on my mind for some time now. will we ever see The Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man Randy Savage inducted in the WWE hall of Fame? They truly are two of the greatest of all time and deserve too be inducted but i know they have problems with Vince so will vince look past there problems and induct them?
Hi J.R my question is will we ever see a who truly is the greatest of all time match 1 day between Hogan vs Flair? I'm thinking WM24.
Hi JR, First of all I love your commentating, you are by far one of the best if not the best commentators in wrestling. Second, I know that this has nothing to do with the blog and I am probably out of order for saying this but why do you still work at WWE, Vince McMahon is a loser kayfabe and real life and WWE died 6 Years ago when the invaison storyline started and has been digging its own grave since then, WWE has turned from Wrestling to Entertainment and I for one hate it why dont you join a real wrestling promotion like TNA or Ring of Honor. Thirdly can you ask the creative team to bring back true hardcore matches to the ECW Brand it was the best wrestling promotion ever, a lot better than WWE and I hate what WWE has done to it. Thank you J.R
J.R. I've looked all over WWE's corporate website, and i can't find anything to help me. I live in England, and when i leave school in a year, I hope to move to the U.S. to become a wrestler. But i don't know what qualifications, etc. I need to do so. If there's anything you can tell me to help me, it would be me much appreciated. Thankyou, Rick M, Sheffield, England
Hey JR! When U get the chance please read this! wow, JR I love u in comentary U in the King Seem to be having a good time on there all the time. But Anyways ,Like Something You would say "Here We Go!" Question 1: You Proubly have had alot of questions About The greatest wrestler of all time HBK! But he is my Favorite and i guess its safe to say i could be his Number 1 Although i havent sen him in person god! please tell me hes a good guy? Anyway HBK has been through alot over the years of his career and i dont kno what im going to do when he retires but i think the greatest show he put on was with none other then Bret "the hit man" Heart. The First ever Iron Man Match Kiked off as a aswome Mat Base Match Which i like and one thing that gets my blood going is when HBK Fights everything hes got i cheer for him like crazy when hes in matches, he inspirers me to achive better when im wrestling on my school team. But In my opinion. The Bret Heart Vs. Shawn Micheals Match was the Best Match Of HBK's Career What i am woundering is , What Match makes Your Blood Run most out of all the HBK matches ? Thank You , and sorry soo long PeAcE out JR your doing a great job on Comentary also A shout out to king U guys put the RRR in RAW!!
I agree that JBL has done a pretty good job calling smackdown, but here is what I would have loved to see...JBL stay in the ring or managers position to build someone up, King go to smackdown and call with Cole, and you and Stone Cold call Raw...Tell me that Raw wouldn't get ratings with that combo...Keep up the good work J.R.
Hello JR! i was just going to comment very quickly bout how much it upsets me to see that val venis is used in squash matches now, the guy is a former Intercontinental Champion, European Champion, and World Tag Team Champion,he has such good mic skills, and in ring ability,I mean I really wish we could see him get just one more solid push,to me,he is 1,000,000 times more entertaining than Umaga!! how do you feel in that?? thanks so much. Sincerely, Chuck Norton
You're definately right about Kane being less unique without his mask. With it, you would say "Oh my it's the Big Red Monster Kane!!!", but without it, it's just "There's Kane, just another of the freakshows of wrestling." I'm not saying he's not frightening without it, because come on, if you can pick some one 10 ft up in the air by their throat and slam them to the mat, then your something. But yeah, even though it was a while back, I'm still sorta mad about it (though he should keep his look right now + the mask, I like his pants and being shirtless). And it's true that the superstars have to defy the rules to win (they defy the laws of physics with just theire normal moves). So J.R., say hi to the King for me. Sam, out
wIN WILL THE GREATEST WRESTLER IN THE HISTORY OF THE BUSINESS BE INDUCTED TO THE HALL OF FAME? THE KING JERRY LAWLER. IVE SEEN HIM BEAT EVERYONE FROM THE TAKER TO HOGAN TO FLAIR TO THE ROCK AND HIS DADDY.I REALLY HATE THAT HE DOESNT SEEM TO GET THE RESPECT THAT HE DESERVES SINCE ARRIVAL TO WWE. WHT WAS THE B.S. ANGLE SAYING HE NEVER BEAT RIC FLAIR. I DONT THINK HE SHOULD WRESTLE ANYMORE IF THEY R GOING TO LET CLOWNS LIKE MASTERS DESTROY HIS LEGACY. I WOULD MUCH RATHER SEE HIM RETIRE. BY THE WAY THE KING IS THE ON WRESTLER HOGAN HAS NO WINS AGAINST THAT HE'S WRESTLED.
JR, In your personal opinion, were the recent cuts related to plans for Donald Trump to be on Raw? It's not like "The Donald" needs the money, but I do know this is something NBC-Universal wants for ratings. In re.: WWE-MSG: In NYC, James Dolan, the owner of MSG, the Knicks, Rangers, and Cablevision, is the most despised man in the city. So now he's trying to screw over WWE by overcharging for the use of MSG? Is that what I'm gathering from reading your blog? In re.: barbeque sauce: Hooking up with a major distributor (i.e. Heinz, Kraft) would help promote the product tremendously and ensure its availability in the East. Here's to hoping it works out. I have "The Marine" on my must-buy DVD list. I don't know about you, but both "Marine" & "See No Evil" may've been victimized by media pre-judgement in some cities (i.e. NYC), especially due to a previously established bias against the WWE. Phil Mushnick never misses a chance to bash WWE, and didn't have anything nice to say about the passing of Bam Bam Bigelow in his column on Friday. Heh, Mushnick reminds me of J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man comics. In re.: roster cuts. There were some missed opportunities among the personnel released a week and a half ago. For example, why didn't Sylvester Terkay wrestle Chris Benoit before going to ECW? That would've been a great match!!! I have read of Jerry Lawler doing a Superman project for DC Comics. Bravo!! I've seen "The King"'s work in the past, and he reminds me of former Mad magazine artist Jack Davis with his artistic style. How about getting him to do a cover for WWE Magazine? Raw needs a new GM. "Executive Assistant" Jonathan Coachman just isn't getting it done, IMPO. His act is stale, like a loaf of 2-week-old moldy bread. As for "Mr. McMahon" obsessing over Donald Trump, John Cena was right. Obsessions and Vince McMahon don't mix very well, because it unhinges the Chairman's mind, and last year's never-ending feud with HBK is still fresh in a lot of people's minds. It's way past time "Mr. McMahon" was taken out of commission, preferably with a straitjacket and tossed in a padded cell. FWIW, I like the Colts over Da Bears.
Hey J.R. I'd love for you to write a book. You know so much history of the business and have been around for almost everything. It would be the greatest learning experense out there for anyone who loves wrestling and wants to know about the good old days.
Hi, J.R. My question is in regards to the vast tape library that WWE has obtained throughout the years. Being a huge "old school" fan I wonder how much footage does exist pre 1980? I find with the 24-7 on demand service there hasn't been a whole lot of '70's footage seen and some of the footage that has been aired has been aired more than once. How much pre 1980 footage of Georgia Championship Wrestling, Mid-Atlantic, AWA and WWWF survived J.R.? I'm beginning to wonder if there is any footage of Bruno's first WWWF title reign as there has been virtually none released by WWE. There was no matches of his from the '60's on the history of the WWE championship DVD that you hosted, only from the second run. Basically J.R. being a fan of the "old school" era of wrestling I am very skeptical of what has survived on film throughout the years and maybe you would be so gracious as to shed some light on these questions I have. Thank you very much J.R. and keep up the excellent work as I'm one of your biggest fans.
Hi JR. Great blog as always. I have two simple questions, and hope you can tell me your thoughts about it: First: are there any plans of doing a ppv in good old germany sometimes? wwe is real popular here nowadays, after some poor years, and i think we could sell out a huge stadium, like the british people did in 1992 at the best summer slam ever. i have a little hope for this, and maybe you know something about its. Second question is, if mania 25 will be again at madison square garden? are there any plans at this time? on one hand i would like to see mania at the garden, but i think the company would lose alot of money. the garden is famous and nice, but to small for a wrestlemania these days i think. maybe you know some future plans. sorry for my bad english! Grüße aus Deutschland! - Noel and hopefully the king's headset is not longer "kaputt" [nyr07 ;)]
Hello JR, I've been a loyal fan of yours and the WWE for decades now. I was wondering if Eugene is ever going to get the push he deserves because when he started out he was getting over really well, but now it seems that the creative team has put him on the shelf. Thanks for taking the time to read this and i can't wait to see what's in store for the Royal Rumble Sunday. -Roger
Sid actually made his first in ring return match in 2004 for a promotion in Montreal. He teamed with Pierre Carl Ouellet. He then proceeded to speak non sense on the mic for 40 minutes where the crowd went from loving him to hating him in that time span. I was on staff for the event, either he kept to his character well, but I found him to be pretty insane.
Why isn't there more "dark" gimmicks? Right now the only "dark" gimmicks are The Undertaker, Kane, Kevin Thorn, and The Boogeyman. There should be more gimmicks that just rub people the wrong way, maybe a child predator or some nightmare/dream stalker. I loved when there were gimmicks like The Ministry Of Darkness, with Mideon and the Acolytes. I also think that by revealing Kane's face, WWE only made him more human, still sadistic, but human. I once heard someone say that "the scary part about the monster is when you can't see his face, once you see his face, the horror, the monster is gone". With the release of Goldust and Gangrel, WWE fans have lost alot of good wrestling and good gimmick.
Also I have been watching wrestling since i was 3 now im 22 and wanted to add i sure do miss the days of you calling some classics like Stieners v. Sting and Luger Superbrawl Luger vs. Hansen GAB, and many others..... WCW did some strange things at Halloween Havoc but I couldn't help to love it when i was younger such as the black scorpion..... And can't wait for the book when you decide you are ready, will buy it immediately, but waiting patiently.
Umm...I have a statement and a question. I love Kurt Angle's in ring ability and I love TNA, I was excited about the move felt it was good for both parties, but I am not sure if the way he left was good. I also love the WWE product. Kurt Angle with his new ego and this VKM angle is only taking away from the parts of tna that sets them apart... which is the x divison... and tag-teams like LAX and AJ Styles and Christospher Daniels, if you have not watched one of thier matches its unbelievable...... This is what makes me tune in to tna and also buy ppvs... I feel like older talent such as Scott Stiener and Sting may just be holding some of the younger talent back. Thats a strong statement but thats the way i feel, I am not saying the could not be agents or something like that. I feel that will not continue to compete or stay open with VKM and Kurt Angles rants about how much Vince sucks.....There slogan is WE are wrestling, but it seems they are drifting away. And they sure could use an announcer of your caliber! Don West and Mike Tenay can become very annoying! Something that has never happened with you JR, the king, JBL and joey styles. I feel like the show could improve alot with an announcer on one of yalls caliber. Well the question is do you feel like the big names can hold back the younger talent. I feel it has happened in WCW and now TNA? I feel also before in WWE but now that has drifted away and WWE has new talent.
Hey JR. This blog is great; it's good to see you're able to speak your mind with relative freedom again. I just wanted to say that one of the things I always liked about your broadcast style was that you always thanked the audience for tuning in. My family and I used to occasionally order pay-per-views back in the day, which was no small expense for us. And we usually went with WCW over WWF, partly out of Southern pride, but also because when you announced for them, you always made a point of saying thanks. Well, thank you, JR. I hope you have many more years left in your broadcasting career, though I'm happy your restaurant and food business is blossoming. All the best.--Rocky
JR, There are rumors galore out there regarding HOF candidates, and I am curious if I heard right if both Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior, but Bob Backlund was not. Savage was a great all around champion, an excellent aerial artist, a good scientific wretler, and had a long career. The Warrior does NOT even deserve to be on the same playing field as either of the great champions I mentioned. It would also be a HORRIBLE idea to let Undertaker get jobbed at Wrestlemania, clean or dirty. It's like one of life's guarantees like death and taxes: a victory by Undertaker at Wrestlemania. I would love to see a Hogan match at Wrestlemania. It's been 20 years since he took part in the biggest match in the history of professional wrestling, and I would love to see him be on that stage again. Randy
hi JR a few weeks ago there was a report on the internet that former WWF/E wrestler Chyna was spotted backstage with Shawn Michaels at a Raw Event. Was this true? and if it was would you like to see Chyna return to the WWE to help the womens division.Because the only two real contenders in the womens division are Victoria and Mickie James.I think Chyna could be a real advantage to the divas of the WWE. Do you think so?
hey jr the show on monday night was amazing i still cant belive how great the hbk edge match turned out i loved seein a hint of the old hardcore days come out during that match do you see the wwe bringing back a hardcore division with the belt and all anytime soon in ecw and do you see undertaker doing a hell in the cell match this year at wm i think that would be awsome taker vs batista i na hell in the cell match also what do you know about cenas injury that he sustaind monday night could it possibly affect his career at all i would hate to see him have to leave he is a very entertaining person to watch in the ring thanx for your time i really enjoy readin the blogs and watching you mon monday nights with the king once again great show and keep up the good work
Hey J.R., I'm looking forward to the Rumble this weekend. Just thought I'd say RAW was excellent. Hats off to HBK, Edge, Orton, creative, and Vince. It is glad to see that Vince does listen to the fans. I am also looking forward to Smackdown again this week. Longtime fan, Jeremiah.
JR: I trulli love your posts, you are a wrestling fan like no one... i'm from argentina, and i'm a huge wwe fan, i visit wwe.com all the time... but now looking at wwe i would say that wwe dont have a huuuuuuuuge superstar... i think that vince screw the nwo storyline, hall and nash deserves a last chance, well obviously if scott leaves that drinking problem, and kev if he broke his tna contract... hall, nash, shawn and hunter would be the perfect dx... or the perfect klique jajajajajaj please i like to recieve an email from you, i admire your broadcasts... a hug from argentina... c you
Hey JR good blog this week, i was wondering how you feel about super crazy getting a small push as of late cause i am loving it. How long do you think it will be until Cryme Tyme gets their tag title shot i hope its soon. Also do have any idea how Rey Mysterio is going to be brought back when he heals. Oh and by the way thanks for all the work you actually put in to your blog even reading our posts and giving feed back.
Hello Friend, Happy (late)Jim ross Day!!!!!!Take care
Hello J.R. My name is Jason, and I'm from just outside Detroit, MI. I am so excited that Wrestlemania 23 is coming to Ford Field. I was only 6 when WM3 came to the Silverdome, and my dad unfortuantely never took me to wresling events. I have been a dedicated loyal wrestling fan since about that age, and buy tickets to every show that comes around since I've worked to afford them. I already have my tickets for the big one this year, and hope to get the Hall Of Fame Ceremony tickets as well. I really hope Dusty Rhoads gets inducted this year as I believe he is the most deserving. I am also very happy to see so many events coming back to the Detroit area lately, as it used to be a wrestling hotbed. Glad to see its heading back in that direction. Also just wanted to let you know that I think you are the greatest announcer ever, do disrespect to all the other wonderful announcers, especially Gordon Solie. I hope to see you as long as you are happy and enjoy it still. It will be a sad day when you pass the torch so to speak, but have more than paved the way for so many others. You deffinately deserve to be in The Hall someday. I really enjoy your site and blogs, and hope that you do get a chance to write your autobiography someday, as it would be one of my favorite reads. I am sorry you get so much critizing mail from morons that have so much bad to say about the business, but then watch it every week. Like you said this business has its ups and downs, and I am there for all of them, b/c I love this business, and would give anything to be apart of it. On a closing note, I know that its about if for the Hulkster, but I do hope he has his retirement match 20 years later at WM23 with whoever is willing and he wants to work with. Do you have any insight on this subject that you can share? It would be greatly appreciated, and keep up the great work! Thank you, Jason Poe
Hey Rossie, Did you still talk to the Stinger? Regards, Mr. Burglecutt
What I find crazy is that in the mid-80's the WWF er... E could do tapings for Superstars and Challenge, syndicate those along with Spotlight, do Prime Time and All-American on USA and do monthly regional TV house shows at MSG, Boston Garden, the Spectrum and other venues and spot shows at Maple Leaf Gardens and Sam Houston Coliseum, but yet the E can't run a show at Madison Square Garden because of costs? I know more goes into that when you do a live RAW and tape Smackdown/ECW but that's is essentially just 2 shows a week. Maybe the real reason that the E isn't going to MSG is that if it isn't a RAW or PPV, then nobody will attend the show because, quite frankly, the product isn't up to the standards set back in yesteryear. Bottom line... it's a shame.
FEEEE FYYYYYY FOHHH FUMMMM.........I MISS THE BIG SHOW!!
Hey, JR. It's Ron Jordan from the Ringside Wrestling column - formerly of Winston-Salem, NC and currently in Dallas/Ft. Worth. Not doing the column anymore after 15 years, but I do have a blog up with the Tampa Bay Online at www.tbo.com/sports/ringside. I saw your post on Chris Cruise and thought I'd share that he's inving the Maryland/Washington, DC area and doing well as a senoir national mortgage trainer. He was recently quoted in an article in the Washington Post. His Web site is www.christophercruise.com. Hope to see you the next time you're in Dallas. Take care, my friend. Ron J
JR, Just out of curiosity, There is alot of rumors on the web about RVD going to TNA after his contract expires. Can you confirm this Rumor? Also I heard many ECW originals are upset with the way The New ECW is heading. Can you confirm this also?
Speaking of Kane, didn't WWE creative drop the ball when they had the Kane imposter this past year? Glen Jacobsen could have easily transitioned to his SEE NO EVIL character, Jacob Goodnight and allowed the Freakin' Deacon from MSW to continue on as Kane. It would have mad a great storyline. If they had went with the angle that Jacob Goodnight could have been impersonating Kane all these years, imprisoning the real Kane. It would have been awesome! Espcially since Deacon had the Kane mannerisms down so well.
Hey JR, Been a big fan since the mid to late 80's. I have a question, other than the 4 Horsemen DVD coming out this year, what other DVD packages are you looking forward to in the coming year?
Hi J.R. Thank you for your blogs which are always a very entertaining and interesting read - I always look forward to every new one! I just wanted to say that I am sick and tired of people hating on Randy Orton. I would very much like to see this young man in the main event at Wrestlemania against Cena and I think the two of them are capable of having a very good match. In my opinion, Orton has a ton of potential and is very talented and he deserves to get a title opportunity.
Do you feel that investing on scott hall and kevin nash would be worth it?one more question why doesn't wwe make a DVD completely about wcw?
mr. ross first off great site i love it.second you are the man when it comes to calling a match.gordon solie was good but no one can match your passion.i have litened to you for at leats 20 years if not more dating back to midsouth.awsome job!when you do finally call it quits that will definetly be a sad day for the bussiness. my question to you is what do you think of all these "shoot interview"videos that are out.i have seen a dozen or so and i enjoy listening to the "old timers"tell their road stories and the days of the territories.what i don't enjoy is the younger guys using these interviews to cuss the talent and the industry.thats just my veiw. again thanks for this entertaing site and great sauce and the years you have made wrestling so entertaining.i hope to hear your voive for years to come ken
I agree with Ron about the brands. Make Smackdown WCW. Complete with all of the Nitro staging.
Hello Jim, I too am looking forward to the World Class Championship Wrestling dvd's that may become available. Living in Colorado, we were never able to see WCCW here. But I spent much time following the action there via PWI and the like. There should be some excellent matches, fueds and names to be revisited and remembered. How much fun would it be to sit back and watch all that old tape! Talk to you soon
J.R. -- Having seen you on a regular basis since 1982 in Mid South Wrestling, I guess you're like the longtime friend I've never met. I enjoyed your comments about the old Mid-South years. They were truly unbelievable. I also remember Boyd Pierce, and those wildly colored suits. I know he passed away eight years ago, but we never heard much about him. What kind of work did he do outside of wrestling? What was he like to work with? Just curious. Keep up the great work. I'm looking forward to trying your restaurant when I visit Oklahoma. Take care.
I find it halarious how you have managed to market your unhealthy image and make money off of it. I know you love ribs JR (the eating kind)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwPQAhOwFAs Lanny Poffo: also known as "The Genius" and "Leaping Lanny" has entered a contest on CBS. It's called 15 seconds of fame. It's FANTASTIC. He's already garnered more fan support than every other entry. CHECK IT OUT! He's one of the few wrestlers from the 80s who hasn't ruined his life with excess. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwPQAhOwFAs
JR, over the holidays I got your turkey, and i had ssome of it the other day. It was very good. Nice and juicy. How are the turkeys and things selling for you in terms of top sellers? Also, when, if ever, are you going to make a JR wrestling book or DVD? That would be awesome! Well, great job on the food and keep up the good work. Jameson from Fort Wayne, IN
Is TNA good for WWE..... answer is YES! Competition is healthy, Christian was not pushed in WWE but in TNA he is a credible champion. Rhyno was under used in WWE but excelled in TNA - it gives wrestlers somewhere else to work and a different style. Its also helping produce stars that WWE would never have given the time of day to as they are not 6ft/300 pound plus monsters that the WWE seem to be intent on employing for the main event spots.
Hey J.R, thanks for the reply on my Matt Hardy question. I am from Nova Scotia Canada and I have known a few atheletes who eventually became superstars. Rene Dupree for example came from New Brunswick and I watched him wrestle in his fathers promotion for years before he broke into the big leagues. As did I do the same with Bobby Roode who is now a major TNA star. Anyways I guess where I'm getting that is that for about two years now Rene has been getting kind of over-looked for some reason and I am just curious if it is because of his abilities or simply because there is nothing for him with creative. I was very proud of my home when Rene got into the WWE because he is one of the first stars from around here to actually make it to that level and I want nothing more than to see him succeed. I saw him back in August wrestling one of his fathers shows while he was on leave from WWE and he looked to be in great condition. And I guess I was just wondering if WWE really ever has plans to put him over or if he will be sent back here in a few months. Also, at a recent event promoted by Emile Dupre' (Rene's dad) I saw former WWE superstar Chad Dick. Chad looke in really great shape and I began to chant at him about how he was fired by WWE, he then grabbed a mic and actually pointed me out infront o the hwole crowd and told me that he quit the WWE because he was being treated unfairly. WHats your thoughts on that?
JR, why has WWE(F) completely phased out the word WRESTLING from broadcasts? it's like they are embarrassed of the word, it's always SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT, never professional wrestling.
