Monday Night Raw #1 on Cable TV...Again!

Posted in:
This past Monday Night, the Raw television broadcast from the sold out American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas was the #1 rated show on all of cable TV for the night. In all likelihood, Raw will probably be the top rated TV program on cable for the week. Raw did a 4.2 rating, delivered 3.8 million households, and 5.4 million persons 2+. Raw delivered a 4.0 rating or more in six consecutive quarter hours Monday night. Webmaster

Hi JR, I have been a wrestling fan for many years and I would have to agree with a number of fans that have provided you with their disgruntledness of the state of wrestling. Entertainment has been lost, there are no longer any real compeling story lines that draw you in to watch. The person above who mentions the use of the heel as a champion is definitely needed. Only time a face should win the belt should be at large PPV ie Wrestlemania. I have not ordered a wrestling PPV in years due to the fact that its no longer entertaining. Charisma of the Rock, the roughneck of Stone Cold and the genius of Mankind kept the stories going. HHH is a hell of worker and a great heel, keep it that way when he gets back. Utilize Edge and Orton more as heels also. Please don't use singles wrestlers as tag team champs (Cena and HBK), rebuild the divisions so each PPV has an intriguing match through out. Its basic marketing, if you put together a compeling argument to make someone watch/see an event your ratings and $$$ will go up. Pass this letter along as a letter from all fans of the wrestling world! Cheers!
hey jr,just wanted to say i was very happy to see the king get his due as he will be inducted into the hall of fame.hopefully good ol jr will be inducted this year as well.you guys are the greatest announce team in the history of this buisness just ahead of monsoon and the brain.speaking of the brain do you think he will ever work for the wwe again i am a huge fan of his and would love to see him on raw even if it was short term?also do you see ted dibiase as a future hall of famer i feel he is way over due.hope to see your name going to detroit because the hall would not be legit without you in it!!!! thanks jr keep up the great work
Hay J.R. my first time ever being on your website. I must admit you and the King are the greatest wrestling announcers of all time. The both of you have a nice commentating connection. Anyway, I must agree with Philip Vazquez on the storylines of WWE. Raw is good but nothing worth to cry over whenever u miss an episode. I used to be angry whenever I missed an episode of Raw or Smackdown back in 1998-2000(maybe because I was 8-9 years old haha) but do you think Vince Russo had a huge difference when it came to the storylines from 1998-2000? Or is it that the stars of WWE aren't as good? Will any young star the WWE has now ever be as popular as The Rock or Stone Cold or The Undertaker was? P.S. The Undertaker still is very popular, but seemed at his best with the Ministry of Darkness gimmick.
Hello JR. Love your insights on Wrestling. Can you tell me whatever happened to John( Golden Greek) Tolos? Thank you...
Hey JR, I'm glad Monday Night Raw is #1 on Cable TV. But apparently TNA is doing some stupid show called "This is TNA" thats going to be on the same time as Raw February 12th. I'm going to try not to watch it so Raw can stay on top with the Ratings, but I'm not sure thats going to mean other people are going to do the same...>_>
Marcuis Cor Von from the “Animal Kingdom” .... Hell don't make me laugh WWE - We all know it's Monty Brown from Detroit who has recently left TNA. Is this an example of WWE running scared that the casual fan will google Monty Brown and find out about TNA wrestling, or is it another example of Vince trying to make a new name for a star that will remain the property of WWE forever.
I thought the Crusierweight belt was retired??? (sic) In all honesty its a waste of space, wwe can even be bothered to defend the IC belt or Tag belts at the PPV's. Gregory Helms is the longest reining champion cos he has no one challenging for his belt ever... and he is so boooooooring since dropping the Hurricane gimmick!
HELLO JR. ANY WORD WHEN SATURDAY NIGHT MAIN EVENT WILL BE ON AGAIN. CONGRATS ON THE RATINGS WIN. MY BEST ALWAYS.
JR, do you know when WWE will be back on MSG network? I enjoyed the events they showed last year, lot's of classic matches from the 80's!
Mr. Ross, I just had to write you here because I don't know if you would ever get my e-mail to you otherwise. I'm a wrestling fan for over 25 years and love the sport. (yes i think it is a sport still) I'm very sad to see the state of the WWE right now and no longer find Monday night Raw a MUST see. It used to be you had to watch RAW and SmackDown to keep up and the story lines were great. Now it seems like nobody cares about building a story line at all. One of my favorite wrestlers now is Umaga, you have him go undefeated... crushing everyone then first fight with Cena he loses... second fight he loses. Where does that leave anything? it doesn't. Mr. Kennedy is amazing and a new fav of mine as well. Yet you leave Batista with the belt. Except for Gregory Helms (and when do you push that belt) you have all face champions... where is the drama in that? Rumble had so much potential but was wasted... how do you have a title match (ECW) end in a count out.. on a PPV? AND it's ECW, you don't have count outs! What should have happened was have Mr. Kennedy win over Batista by way of Undertaker getting involved and costing him the belt by mistake. THIS set's up a story and you can take two months to build the fued to WrestleMania. Have Umaga beat Cena and now you have two heals with the belts and can work the "good guy" angle to win one of them back at WrestleMania. EVEN if you left Cena and Batista winners... Mr. Kennedy should have taken out "the miz" (come on) and taken his place in the Rumble and won it in the end. Do this and set up a shocker and have him challenge CENA at WM. DO SOMETHING... there are not story's... you have the IC belt, US belt and tag belt NEVER defended on PPV's. We've all seen Jeff hardy as the IC holder and his character hasn't changed in years... you have Masters, Carlito, Matt Hardy, Nitro and others i'd love to see. Last point... WHY is it once the crowd likes a character when they are the heal and total "bad guy" do you feel the need to turn them face? there aren't enough heals... GOOD heals and if the crowd likes them... play off of that... if they like the heal and he is working LEAVE IT BE. Carlito is a great example... everyone loved him.. .now who cares... you know he isn't going to win anything meaningful. I miss the true story lines... Austin/Hart, Vince/Rock, Flair/Funk and such. I'm tired of 3-way matches or mix tag matches that nobody cares about. Or womens matchs that are the same week in and week out. IF you are going to have a 3-way match... do it the right way... 3 start.. on gets pinned or submits, the 2 left fight till one winner remains. This way you can't have a champion lose without being pinned or submitted... that is crap. I want to share wrestling for hears to come with my 1 1/2 year old son but i'm losing interest. The brands are terrible because it's the same matches over and over again... oh.. and way too much talking and promoting.. who cares about vince and the donald??? More wrestling matches would be nice.. better promos and some storys would be nice. Thanks for listening to me vent.... Unhappy wrestling fan... Phil
Hi, J.R. My question is in regards to the vast tape library that WWE has obtained throughout the years. Being a huge “old school” fan I wonder how much footage does exist pre 1980? I find with the 24-7 on demand service there hasn’t been a whole lot of ’70’s footage seen and some of the footage that has been aired has been aired more than once. How much pre 1980 footage of Georgia Championship Wrestling, Mid-Atlantic, AWA and WWWF survived J.R.? I’m beginning to wonder if there is any footage of Bruno’s first WWWF title reign as there has been virtually none released by WWE. There was no matches of his from the ’60’s on the history of the WWE championship DVD that you hosted, only from the second run. Basically J.R. being a fan of the “old school” era of wrestling I am very skeptical of what has survived on film throughout the years and maybe you would be so gracious as to shed some light on these questions I have. Thank you very much J.R. and keep up the excellent work as I’m one of your biggest fans.
