Foley's Next Frontier.. WWE in Toronto.. Ridiculous Batista Rumor on the 'Net.. Great Beef Jerky Feedback.. The Rock is a Movie

Posted in:
Let's get to your questions and remember, many questions posed have already been answered on previous blogs. I suggest you read the archived blogs when you have the time. Plus, I am not going to start speculating on who should or should not be in the 2008 WWE Hall of Fame. That's WAY too early to begin nothing but pure speculation. I also don't know when or where Wrestlemania tickets go on sale, but I suggest you check out www.wwe.com for that sort of info as the travel packages seem to guarantee fans tickets as I expect tickets to sell out quickly for the Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando for next March. Glass Joe- Mick Foley can fill many roles within WWE programming. I fully expect to see much more of Mick on TV in the upcoming months. What role will that entail? Who knows, but I suggest you stay tuned! Personally, I hope it is back in the ring. John in Portland- O.K. let's stop the insanity. I am not stupid enough to "deliver a message to Mr. McMahon" about what you like or do not like about WWE programming. I roll with the punches and take the good shows with the not so good shows and don't live or die with either. Perhaps that philosophy would work for you too. Alexandra- According to the label on our Jerky, no MSG is listed. However, I will check further. It is selling like crazy, which is awesome. Ken in Toronto- I am not aware of upcoming appearances in Toronto, but the WWE office there may know more info or you can check out www.wwe.com. I am anxious to arrive in TO as it is one of my favorite cities. Amy- "Batista lost the title because he was too full of himself" is what you heard reported on the internet... Come on Amy, don't fall for that manufactured manure. There was one reason Batista lost and that reason is simply "The Undertaker". Michael- I have no idea if there will ever be a Hardys vs. Kendrick and London match, but if it ever happens I would love to be there to see it. It might be reminiscent of the Rock 'n Roll Express vs. the Midnight Express matches in the 80's. Levar- I never said I hoped Ric Flair wouldn't get another "run" with the WWE or World Title, but that I doubted that it would happen. No one is a bigger Flair fan than me, but I simply don't think this other "run" is in the cards. Hopefully, I am wrong. Simon- I make no adjustments when broadcasting a Raw in the UK as it feels like home to me. No issues whatsoever once I get over the jet lag. Drinking ample amounts of H2O and not ample amounts of alcohol helps my cause too. The UK crowds don't allow any of us to "phone it in" because they are "loud and proud" from beginning to end. Jason- To the best of my knowledge, Joe "Road Warrior Animal" Laurinaitis has no official role in the WWE. His brother John has my old job as head of Talent Relations. Vicky- O.K., one more time, The Rock is building a career in the movie business. It is highly unlikely that Rock will ever wrestle again. Perhaps I am wrong, but I don't see it anywhere on the horizon. I still communicate with "The Great One" and he is totally immersed in the challenging career of film making. The Rock does not hate wrestling. He has simply moved on to other things. Scott- I agree that recently the lines have been blurred between the WWE Brand Separation. I like it personally, but I am in favor of the Brand Separation over all as it provides many wrestlers the opportunity to work a full time schedule and to better provide for their families. Gonzo- Again... the WWE has shown great interest in purchasing the UWF/Mid South library, but it takes two to tango and the seller has to be willing to sell to make this happen. Chris- I have been keeping up with Konan's health issues and he is in our prayers and hopefully is in yours. Konan is a talented individual, especially on the mic. JP- I love the upside of Cade and Murdoch. Their ascent to the top of the tag charts has been indeed quick but these two are the real deal and might make one of the WWE's best duos in years. KT- After Raw went off the air Monday, Mr. McMahon strolled by the announce table and knocked my hot tea off the table. Luckily I did not have to wear it. Ryan- Lilian Garcia is undergoing ACL surgery after injuring her knee on the ski slopes. We hope Lilian is back with us soon. Justin- Who's better - Flair or Hogan? An age old question. What are your criteria? If it is simply having a great match night after night and making any opponent one faces better than they actually were then the nod goes to Flair without fail. If it is simply box office appeal and selling merchandise, it probably would be Hogan. That's it for now from the "Sauce and Jerky King". Check out our store for all the special offers. Your feedback on our products is greatly appreciated as we continue to count down the days until we open our "J.R.'s Family Bar-B-Q" in Norman, Oklahoma in June 2007. Be well every one and continue to count your many blessings. Boomer Sooner! J.R.

Hey JR! I'm a big fan of yours and a big Undertaker fan. What do you think about Mark? The Deadman has a great long career with the WWE. In his past days he was good and frankly he and HBK hook me up to WWE when I was 9 years old. Now Taker is better than ever. His physical form is unbelievable and the passion that he puts in his matches is hard to match. How long more do you think he'll stick in the business? I know that time should come he can't wrestle for ever. Also, how do other ho around an active legend like this backstage? He's a Wrestler in his 40s and still can do physically stuff like any other younger wrestler.
HEY JR I GOT A QUESTION.WHEN YOU DECIDE TO RETIRE FROM WWE AND CALLING THE MATCHES WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER A MANAGER POSITION? I NEED A MANAGER REALLY BAD! THANKS SO MUCH! "MR. HARDCORE" JIMMY FALCON
Second question for you Jim, rumor has it that "The Rock" signed a 3 year deal with the Denver Broncos, but was cut after 3 months is this true, or just a bunch of internet Hooey
Hey JR! While I know that you have no controll over when or where the WWE goes, but I hope that at some point Vince brings a Raw or a PPV to the Land of Elway. Denver would love to see the Superstars more often then once every 2 years or so.
J.R. I am a HUGE Raw fan, and a big fan of the divas. But I would like to know why the divas seem to be there to just act like harlots. When are there going to be stronger, more talented divas to bring more spice to the Women's Championship Division?
Lately Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas have been playing roles of jobbers as it seems on Monday Night Raw. What is your opinion on that? Personally I would like to see a World's Greatest Tag Team in a match against the Hardy Boys, that would be a great match, to see two styles collide via two accomplished tag teams. Is there any chance of that match or rivalry happening?
JR I thought when Crockett Promotions bought the UWF they bought the film library aswell Steve
i thank you for answering my question! i KNEW i was right! i think im going to use "manufactured manure" :D and yes you DO deserve to be in the hall of fame! and it definetly wasnt too early for you to be inducted! i do agree with stone cold that you are a GREAT commentator and quite possibly, the greatest of all time! combine your greatness with the king's and you have the greatest commentator team of all time, IMO..i also enjoy your enthusiam when youre promoting skittles! it makes me want to get a bag of them EVERYTIME..i prefer the sour kind myself, though again thank you for answering my question..keep doing what youre doing and dont let peoples insults get you down...you are a good person inside and out...people who say horrible things about you are just trying to get a rise out of you i also hope youre in good health -Amy
Mr. Ross... I have long been a fan of your work and one day hope that I can fill about a quarter of your shoes and make about half the impact on this buisness as you have. I do some work for local indys and I'm trying to work my way up, since I have an ankle injury my wrestling dreams have been cut shorter than Mr. McMahon's recent 'do... My question relates to the Four Horseman DVD that was just released. First of all, kudos to all those involved. Since the Ric Flair collection and the Rise and Fall of ECW, I have not seen as good a DVD. The AWA retrospective was close, but this was fantastic! I noticed you had quite a bit to say on the DVD, was there anything you said that didnt make it and you felt should have? What could have made the DVD better? What DVD would you like to see come out and are there any plans for an Owen Hart DVD at some point? Thak you for taking the time to read my thoughts and opinions, I'm sorry its as long winded as it is, just tons to say and not nearly enough time left in my lifetime to get get it all out. I certainly look forward to seeing you Monday night... Boomer Sooner, lets get back the 13-0 season!!! Jeff 'Fat Jack' Goodridge
Hi JR! One quick question and then a quick comment: Q: Cena, Kane, Rock and Austin have all done movies. Would you take part in a movie if they asked you and what type of character would you most like to play?? Comment: I'm a big fan of HHH and HBK when they are working as a heels. It is clear, at least in my eyes, that HHH takes a few pages from the Nature Boys handbook on how to play the bad guy and should return to that style when he comes back to the ring. Being that HHH and HBK are both not the same two young guys anymore, is it just me or does it seem really not the same, them doing the DX and the entire ''TWO WORDS FOR YA'' thing. Yes, as wrestlers they are great in the ring. Please bring back an Evolution or Horseman style faction.... because in my opinion would be a smarter avenue for HHH and HBK to follow.
hey Jim Ross, Flair was way better than Hogan, Hulk was a guy that got lucky with a great gimmick, so im only 19 and i might not know what im talking about but I do know that flair was the better wrestler and he had more style and charisma than hogan period.
After watching the Horsemen DVD, I got to wondering about the return of a couple of concept or "gimmick" matches. What are the odds of seeing the return of "Wargames: The Match Beyond." Two rings, double cage, double ring, with a roof. This would be great for Survivor Series. Plus, I always liked the idea from WCW of "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal" or Raw Roulette (sorry if spelled wrong). What would be the odds of seeing the returm of both, especially Wargames?
when will HHH be back and will D-X fit in his plans
JR, Upon watching the Horsemen DVDs, it got me to thinking about something. Do you feel that the powers at Titan Towers will ever off any type of deal, on the shopzone website, where a fan would pay a certain amount of money, and the WWE will put together DVDs of material that they want on DVD? I would think, with the depth of the libraries which is owned under the company banner, that some sort of deal like this would bring in money hand-over-fist. What do you think?   From the Moderator - It's a fun idea, but at this point the technology is not there to burn a custom DVD of whatever matches fans want from the huge library on a one-to-one basis. It would be very time consuming and the costs would be prohibitive.
Who do you think will be the next big thing in WWE out of the young talent on the main brands?
J.R., I was watching a tape of some old Mid-South that a friend of mine gave to me to watch. I have a few questions. First, what was it like working with Boyd Pierce and is it true that Boyd was in fact blind? Second, how did Joel Watts come into the picture as an announcer? Third, many current fans don't realize how innovative Mid-South Wrestling was in terms of character development, angles and storylines (remember, before the horsemen, there was the Rat Pack). Was there any feeling back then that what you were doing then would have such a lasting impact on the business? And lastly, are there any plans to have a DVD that would chronicle the history/best of Mid-South (and possibly also Jim Crockett Promotions and Championship Wrestling from Florida) in the near future? I would really like to see some more of this footage.
Are WWE Wrestlers tested for marijuana or any other kind of street drugs?
I was watching The Stone Cold Truth dvd and in particular the Hollywood Blondes vs. Flair/Andersen match. Jesse Ventura's voice was cut out and only Tony's was audible. Is this because of dislike with Jesse...couldn't come to financial terms to use his voice...etc. Just curious.
Dear JR; Hi from the UK, I'm attending the RAW house show in October at Sheffield and I can't wait! I always love going to WWE shows, it's always a total blast and there's nothing that can compare to the atmosphere! I was wondering what your opinion is of Maria becoming Women's champion one day. In my view she has greatly improved over the past year or so, and she's a very beautiful girl (tell her I said that please haha) Think that she could ever be on the same level as Lita or Trish? And about the fans shouting stuff at the HOF Ceremony, I actually feel sorry for those people, they had nothing better to do than to stand for 3/4 hours and yell abuse. If you dislike the WWE, don't attend those kind of events. DELICIOUS FRUITY SKITTLES! Haha I love those advertisements, keep up the good work JR! Yours Sincerely. Frazer
Hey J.R I really enjoyed your blog today, as I do whenever you post a new blog! It's great that you answer our questions and queries in your free time. I was wondering what is going on with the whole Hogan/Vince "fued" at the moment? Is it storyline? Is it legit? Is the whole Jillian storyline actually interpreting Brooke Hogan? There are so many rumours going around on many, many sites and I thought who better to ask than Good Ol' J.R! I love you J.R.. You rock! You are a Legend!
Hey, JR. Just want to say congratulations on the whole restaurant business. Bring one over here to Ireland...we're one other country who appreciates really good food. ;)
I don't know how many times that you have been asked this question and I'm sorry if you have answered it previously here on your blog, but I was reading Eric Bischoff's book the other night and it made me wonder about your side of the story when you left WCW in early 1993. Can you please answer that for me? Also, what are your thoughts of Jesse Ventura and Bobby Heenan, and what was it like working with them? Thank you for all that you have done for WWE and the wrestling industry in general, and keep it up!!!!!
Hey JR, Shane o Mac lost on Raw last week and he should have his head shaved right???? Even though it was a DQ loss a stipulation is a stipulation and it counts as an L in the record book for Shane so shouldn't he have his head shaved?????? Or is that a title thing where it can only change hands or in this case the stipulation can only be enacted upon by pin fall or submission???? If thats the case I say the WWE needs to go to the rule in where a DQ or a count out can change the title or in this case have Shane loose his hair. I say shave him, Linda, and Steph so they can be the first bald family of wrestling.......I can just laugh picturing it.
Hey JR, how are you? Since there is a shocking lack of anything remotely resembling BBQ sauce in England how is the ongoing issue going with being able to ship liquids going Jim? You mentioned that you prefer the brand separation because it means more people working full time so therefore being able to provide for their families, as a fan (instead of someone who knows the wrestlers directly) do you prefer to have the original format of it being WWE/F roster that fights on both Smackdown and Raw and having one champion etc to me it makes more sense as people mention or criticise the lack of depth in the talent available, I would love to see a return to that set up as it makes the world titles etc more important as theres only one champion. What do you think? Also please keep the road stories and ribs coming as they're very entertaining and amusing. Keep up the good work Boomer Sooner!
I just recently purchased the four horseman dvd. In it Ric says that if the horseman would have had Vince Mcmahon's skills to market and promote the horseman, then Hulk Hogan would have been in the first match of the card, while the horseman would have been the main event. I 100% agree. The horseman, especially Flair in the mid to late 80's were almost as big of a name as Hogan, but without anywhere near the promotion that Hogan got. I think that in the 80's with Vince McMahon, Flair not Hogan would have been the biggest draw in wrestling history. So with that being said, I was just wondering what you thought.
Good Ol' JR, The job of manager has become a lost art. It has been quite a while since colorful managers such as Bobby Heenan, Jimmy Hart, Slick, and Mr. Fuji graced our televisions week in and week out. Any sign that we will see managers become a big part of WWE in the future?
Hey JR, I am wondering, do you think Cade and Murdoch have a chance to defeat the Hardys or will the Hardys beat them at Backlash and retain the titles?
Whoo, JR, how about this spring weather we're having? I'm only about 30 minutes from Bartlesville, and it's rain, some freezing rain, more rain, more rain, then some snow....I thought it was April! Have fun in Italy!
JR: I just bought the Horsemen DVD, which I can't wait to pop in tonight! The Horsemen were the group that really drew me into wrestling and I can't wait to relive some of those memories of THE original super-group. I have to ask you though, do you think we'll ever see one more incarnation of the Horsemen? Also, if YOU could put the group together, from today's superstars, who would you consider to put together a modern stable with the classic "Horsemen" mold? Thanks JR!
Hey JR! My question for you is: If Christian would have stayed with the wwe for another 2-3 years would he be WWE Champion today? Thanks for your time JR, and I also wondered if you will ever do ppv predictions on this site? God Bless!
Hi J.R.! I've heard rumors that the WWE is looking into forming seperate exclusive brands in Europe and South America. Are these rumors true? I would think that would be a good business move seeing how those areas are relatively untapped (despite those overseas tours ya'll make) and goes along with the WWE truly going "global." Would be a cool way to bring back the European title anyway. Thanks, you're the best.
Hey JR, sorry if I started sounding insane about the whole McMahon issue but the guy is driving me, and I'm sure a lot of other fans nuts. Like you I do take the bad with the good but this particular bad has been going continuously for 10 years, and being the Boss he's such an all-pervading bad that he can't help but get involved with and distract from a lot of the good. A good promoter should know when a story or character has run its course. But while I despise him on-screen I will give him his due. I just read the Where Are They Now article on Paul Bearer on WWE.com (I really did not know that Percy actually was and is a licenced mortician, that's hilarious.) and where, as a special "signing bonus" for his last WWE run Vince paid for a gastric bypass for him. I cannot think of any other promoter who'd do something like that. Say what you will about McMahons dubious tastes, I certainly have, but he does take care of his people.
The Four Horsemen DVD was good but still could have been better but I guess that's what volume 2 is for. I would love to see the WarGames 87 match in its entirety on DVD, i still have a VHS copy of it. Hopefully Flair, Arn, Tully, Ole, and Dillon are in the hall of fame next year.
J.R., I just watched the Four Horsemen DVD and I must say it was great. I just have a couple things that really struck me. First, Paul Roma seemed kind of bitter. Also, I'm going out on a limb and saying he won't be president of the Ric Flair fan club. Second, I was disappointed that Ole Anderson wasn't interviewed for the DVD. I know he's not the biggest Vince McMahon fan, but it would've been nice to hear his thoughts on the Horsemen. Last, what is your opinion of Sid Vicious, personal and/or professional? I have always been a fan of his dating back to when he was with Dan Spivey as the Skyscrapers. He just had an amazing look. Sure, he wasn't the greatest wrestler alive, but his overall intensity was immense. Do you see him perhaps getting a WWE Legends deal in the future? I'd love to see him get back in the ring, but with his gruesome leg injury, that's probably a tall order. I'd appreciate any insight you may have.
Hi J.R, Fantastic blog as always. Just wanted your opinion on the future of Jeff Hardy (ie Him Becoming a Main Eventer) l am a big fan of Jeff and just wanted to know if you thought that with some more upper body strength and better mic skills and posssibly a more methodical ring approach he could be a future HBK (Apologies if this has been asked before) Best Wishes from all the wrestling fans in Glasgow, Scotland.
What was wrong with my question? It wasn't posted Anyway = JR, do you know why WWE never does any Live RAW, SMACKDOWN or ECW from Glasgow as in televised broadcast, please answer
Hey JR, I have a simple question. I was reading somewhere that the brand extension was supposed to consist of like the WWE as one brand and WCW as the other and that it was supposed to take place after World Wrestling Entertainment purchased World Championship Wrestling back in spring 2001. You said above that you like the brand extension as it gives everybody on the roster a chance to work a full time schedule, but would you still like the brand extension had it been the WWE as one brand and WCW as the other and how do you think it would have affected the wrestling landscape as right now we could be seeing WWE, ECW and WCW all alive and well had this plan gone forward? Thank you for reading this.
Does WWE have something against factions? WCW had a couple of great stables such as The Four Horsemen, The nWo, The Varsity Club, The Dungeon of Doom, etc. that were instrumental in putting over alot of young talent that otherwise might not have had much of a chance to shine on their own in an industry that is generally controlled by what Sean Michaels has refered to as "dinosaurs". (Reference currently filed under "irony".) I don't mean tag teams, mind you, as that's basically what the recent "DX" has been. Something more along the lines of "The New Breed" only, you know, interesting. Also, why does WWE continually refer to Randy Orton as the youngest World Champion in it's history when that distinction clearly belongs to The Giant (as WCW, unfortunately, now belongs to WWE and Paul Wight is recognized by WWE as having held each of the Big 3's World Titles. If you consider his ECW title reign part of ECW canon, which, much like The Rock's WCW title reign, is arguable). As for the lines that have been blurred between WWE's 3 brands, why not use the Hardcore Title for something like that? Say, if this person holds this title, he or she may appear on any brand they wish, at any time. Once they lose the title, they are now part of the brand they lost the title in. Otherwise, what's the point in the brand extention if A Smackdown star can hold a Raw title or the ECW Chamion keeps showing up on Raw? Isn't that taking food out of a Raw star's mouth when they could be using that TV time to promote an under utilized talent? Finally, anything in the works that might appeal to those of us who do not consume animals?
Hello J.R. Simply would you like to write a book ? i think this would be a great read especially coming from someone such as yourself. You could entitle it Through the Eyes of an Announcer or SLOBBERKNOCKER :) either way it would make a great book to add to my collection of wrestling books..... Talking of Books Mick Foley's latest book has me glued (Hardcore Diaries) like no other ! biggest WWE seller since Ric Flair's book i understand.
Hey JR, I've always been a fan of Matt Borne. I wasn't totally immersed in WWF as a kid, but I always liked Doink, even though he was a heel. Recently, I got a chance to catch some of his matches from WCCW on some of the low-pried DVDs released and was amazed. He could talk, wrestle, and had great psychology. I was wondering if you've worked with him and if you had a good story or two.
Hi J.R. to answer one of the questions u were asked, yes th WWE is coming to TO soon. Im from the greater Toronto area (GTA) and will be there for sure! my seats are on the side the camera see's up by the ramp. There not amazing seats but there better then 94% of the other seats lol. This will be may 28th!
Hey J.R., Sauce Man is pretty cool, not sure I'd want to be known as Jerky Man though. Anyway I've heard that Oklahoma has some good looking quarterbacks this year. Do you have an inside edge on who might end up being the starter this year? Thanks for staying in touch with your fans J.R. we love ya for it!
I was talking with a buddy of mine down in the Sooner state. He said that your jerky must have "crack" in it because it is addictive. :)
Come on JR, Box office draw, "probably Hogan." I am a huge Flair mark, but there is no way Flair is in Hogan's league in that category. Hogan is the New York Yankees, while Flair is the Milwaukee Brewers when it comes to moving merchandise -Tim in River Edge, NJ
Probably would be Hogan? Cmon Jim. Give the Hulkster his due. We all get the point that Flair is the far superior wrestler and talent, but hes not even in the same ball field, state, or country when it comes to drawing power and/or profit. Ric Flair has overexposed himself being on WWE television every week, and it seems to be that Im not the only one that agrees, as your company didn't feel it "fit" that Flair have a program at Mania. If Hogan and Vince weren't in such dismal shape relationship wise, Im sure your answer would be widely different, and Hogan certainly wouldn't have been involved in a Pre-show Dark Match on the grandest stage of them all. Hogan > Flair by a mile...and this is coming from a Macho Man fan! Just admit it Jim!
JR, My question - Last year I was sick (the flu) and it seems I haven't been able to get my voice back - for years I was a professional singer - nothing is working, I can talk just fine but when I go for those notes - I cannot hit them now - you have had trouble with your voice in the past - even recently - wondering if you had any remedies or ideas...thanks, Joel
I know someone somewhere said that kennedy is like stunning steve and i bet that is why he's the new Mr. Money in the bank. He is way more like Shane Douglas. He looks like him first of all. But more importantly he has that big mouth just like Shane and he aint that impressive...just like Shane. Just my opinion. Thanks.
Hi JR, Great to see your sauces/restaurant venture coming together! Will you be offering a sampler pack of your sauces in the near future? Also, out here in Los Angeles, we have a 'different' JR's BBQ....http://www.jrs-bbq.com/, WHEN you expand out here =)
Hey JR, what does "boomer sooner" mean?
Hey JR! If a wrestling fan can have vindication, i have to say you and Jerry Lawler being inducted in the Hall of Fame was it. You are the Howard Cossell of wrestling!I am a Tennessee boy and HUGE fan of old school wrestling, and recently have gotten to see some vintage Jerry Lawler. Take it easy Mr. Ross, hope God is blessing you in every way!
