Jushin Liger.. The Woman Likes Her Jerky.. Smokey Bones.. Dream Match.. Favorite Sopranos Character..

Posted in:
I may be miles away from the USA, but that’s the beauty of a computer! This trip has been so far, so good and I seem to find plenty of great food (no jokes please) and beverage. Life is good and Bar-B-Q is life. Stu- Jushin Liger was one of a kind. When Liger was healthy and in his prime, he was an amazing talent. I loved calling his matches against Brian Pillman back in the old WCW. Liger was comparable to Rey Mysterio in that both are not giants, but are nonetheless extraordinary. Erika- Thanks for ordering the Slobber-Knocker Heat Beef Jerky. You are a real woman because the Slobber-Knocker has plenty of “personality”! For carb watchers, our jerky is on the money. Sam- I don’t know what happened with the interviews I did with Mick Foley about his new book “Hardcore Diaries”. I thought the were going to be airing on wwe.com. Maybe someone did not like them. It might have been my hat. Bill- I have had a few good meals at Smokey Bones BBQ. The best places for “Q” are the mom and pop places that are usually just wide spots in the road. Sy- I have lots of dream matches in my brain, but what about The Million Dollar Man vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin? Carol- I assume HBK came out to his old music because he is working solo at this time. I also assume that Shawn will don the DX colors when HHH gets healthy. Then again, perhaps both HBK and HHH will do their own individual thing. Personally, I like DX and the duo of Michaels and The Game. Nick- When will Jeff Hardy be a “main eventer?” I would suggest he is a main eventer now, in my mind’s eye. Jeff is one of the most popular performers in the entire WWE. If Jeff continues to steer the course, I am sure more success will come his way. “Rainbow Hair” is hugely talented. Nick- I think Kenny Dykstra has a definite upside. Kenny is young, dedicated and has a great natural aptitude for wrestling. Let’s hope he stays healthy, physically and mentally, and continues to improve. Kenny could have many years of competing in main events if he steers the course. I first met Kenny when he was in High School and we told him we would sign him if he graduated. He did, and he’s now a budding WWE Superstar. Keegan- C.M. Punk is another young man I enjoy watch wrestle. I wish he were on Raw every Monday. Nonetheless, Punk has started a new phase of his young career and we will see sooner than later how well he fits into his new role in ECW. I think he will do great and there is no doubt that Punk’s best days are still to come. The WWE has several outstanding young talents starting to come into their own, and Punk is one of them. Jake in Ireland- My favorite Soprano’s character is definitely Tony. But there aren’t any characters on my favorite show that I really don’t like. I am going to miss two weeks of The Sopranos while I am in Italy and England, but I would bet a Rib Dinner that there are some surprise “whacks” over these two broadcasts. I fear Tony will be offed too, but I predict it will be towards the last few minutes of the final show. Reverend Funk- I do hope you make it to I-35 and Main Street in Norman, Oklahoma and visit our restaurant. More than likely old J.R. will be hanging out. I might even be waiting on a few tables and enjoying an ice cold beverage. I have encountered many language issues this week, but that’s really nothing new for this Okie with my Sooner/Southern drawl. But I have not found any shortage of nice folks and great fans. It is a wonderful deal to be able to travel around the globe and run into people who are wrestling fans just like me. That’s the universal language in my book and something on which we can all communicate, no matter what our native tongue is. It’s tea time Mates. Cheers! J.R.

who is your favorite nfl star&why???
what are your thoughts on the major brothers that were on ecw this past week???
what are your thoughts on hardcore holly and his future in wwe?
Congratulations on your induction into the Hall of Fame. Do you have any update on the status of the rumoured international brands? On a side note, Eddie from Ireland should contact one of the many wrestling schools in Ireland. There is a great one in Bray, Co. Wicklow that is accredited by the NWA. Their details are on the website. I'ver personally trained here and found the methods to be safe and thorough.
JR, Why does the WWE put up with Randy Orton when he comes off in the press as having no respect for the empire his father helped build? You'd think he would have cleaned up after his last issues, but yet again here he is in the news with steroids and acting like a jackass in Europe. He not only makes the WWE look bad, but the USA where our image is less than stellar over seas. Any other superstar would be gone right now. It's disappointing.
hi j.r. iam huge fan from czech republic wrestling is main best sports ever you is the greatest commentator in history will be wwe in czech republic please respond thanks
Hi Jim im going to be at the raw taping in london this week. what hotel are you guys staying at. id love to come down and get a few autographs and pictures. thanks.
Hello JR, i am glad everything is going really well. i am still a big wrestling fan, and absolutly love you calling any match. I persoanlly, have the upmost respect for you, and was delighted when i heard you being announced in the hall of fame. 1 day i hope to meet you. Regards, George
Hey JR,I only have one question....more of something to run across your mind... do you really think WWE brass could really get upset if their viewers are watching TNA? after all alot of TNA contains alot of former WWE stars... for example BILLY BAD ASS GUN! who is my ultimate all time favorite wrestler!!! how could i not follow him to TNA?
Hey J.R. do you see TNA as a potential threat to the WWE? Like the old WCW ?
To clarify, I remember watching the interviews with you and Foley. They were on the bottom of the front page, near the wwe.com poll. For whatever reason, they never stuck it in the ticker nor the headline page. I would like to see DX come back as well ONLY if there's more than two members. :)
Hey JR!!! I heard a rumor saying that the ECW Tag Team Titles will be reinstated within a couple months from now. If this is so, how do you feel about this move and how do you think it will affect the ECW brand. My thoughts on this is that I think it's good for the brand, because it brings about a new focus to ECW, instead of putting all the load and pressure on the ECW Champion. I also think that it'll be a good opportunity to have the other talent to be more recognized by the "mini-marks" as I like to call the little kids who absolutely adore wrestling, but who weren't around during the old ECW. And last of all, I know that you're a guru when it comes to BBQing, but do you know any authentic Southern chili recipes for someone who loves a lot of different kinds spices in their foods? Thanks much, and keep up the awesome work on Monday nights!!!! Slobber-Knockers for life!!!!
Hi J.R., Just curious about something. Are Edge and Lita still an item or did they break up after she retired from the WWE ? What ever happened to Stone Cold's ex wife Debra D. Golddigger ?
Hey JR, Great blogs as always. Had to catch up been working hard. :-( LOL I think I've seen that you like the Yankees...if so try this blog for a good read: http://yankees.lohudblogs.com/ The author is an "insider" to the clubhouse so his info is probably spot on. A-Rod's rocking their socks now ain't he? :-) Have fun in London, you lucky devil!
"This stinks Ross, it stinks" - Jesse Ventura Ross, Where are the Powers of Pain and has their ever been a more powerful duo? wes
Hey Jim, I recently came across this list of "Jim Ross' beatings" and I wanna know how you survived all these: * Having a cinderblock broken on his head by Eric Bischoff. * Placed in the cross-face chicken wing by Bob Backlund. * Having fecal matter from a pig poured on him by Henry O. Godwinn. * Being punched in the face by Triple H. * Having his arm broken by Triple H. * Getting attacked by Triple H. * Getting busted opened by Triple H's fist. * Getting Pedigreed by Triple H. * Getting Pedigreed by Chyna. * Having his eye cut after Tazz broke the window of a car with Ross inside. * Being physically forced by The Undertaker to kiss Vince McMahon's buttocks. * Being knocked out by Jonathan Coachman. * Getting wipped by Coachman. * Being low blowed by Ric Flair. * Being attacked and choked by Muhammad Hassan and Daivari. * Being knocked out, set on fire and kicked in the stomach by Kane. * Being punched by Paul Heyman the evening after the Survivor Series. * Being Stunnered and busted open by Steve Austin. * Being mandible clawed by Mankind. * Being slapped in the face by Stephanie McMahon. * Being kicked in the groin by Linda McMahon as he was "fired."
Hey JR, thanks for the response! I found this funny li'l typo on a review of your recent MIT lecture.. from the wrestlingobserver.com website: "JR did a great job, was real honest, accessible to fans afterward. It was an intimate and lively talk. He should definitely write a (sic) boob.(sic) Mick Foley comes to MIT to speak next month." I have to agree with the guy... you should definitely write a boob!
Hi, JR! You always have said that Scott Hall has a great wrestling mind. Would you please kindly expound on the professional definition of a ‘wrestling mind’? And also, aside from his physical abilities, how different is HBK of today from HBK of the 90s with regards to his wrestling mind and all other facets of wrestling? Thanks a lot!
JR, Whatever happened to Lord Alfred Hayes?   Just a quick answer from the Moderator in JR's absence... I am sad to tell you that Lord Alfred Hayes has passed away. I'm sure JR will have his own answer here and perhaps a story. I myself last saw Lord Alfred at Wrestlemania X7 in Houston and he was in a wheel chair and I hardly recognized him he had lost so much weight - except when he spoke. That same delightful British accent came out of his mouth telling us funny stories. He was a wonderful talent and meshed with Gorilla so well as a broadcaster. Growing up in Texas, I remember him as a wrestler in World Class in the 70's. He was a heel and a great one. He made everyone hate him. He looked down on all Texans as trash, since he was so "properly British".
JR, I have a great idea for you..How about Skittles flavoured beef jerky? Hahaha.
J.R. It took me a while to get into the WWE, despite all my friends interest. Once I finally did, I was very glad and it is something I have held close to my heart for a long time. Of course when you were replaced by Paul E. at the table, I was less inclined to pay attention. All that aside, my question to you. What are your thoughts on the return of the Hardcore Title? Most of my (and many people I know) fondest memories revolve around that title, and the matches bearing the same name. Do you see it's return as any sort of possibility? Thanks, Mike Vlaz, S.R., Ca
Stone Cold invented the "What?" chant, The Rock made the "A** Hole" chant popular, then there's Kurt Angle's "You Suck" chant, in your opinion, which is the best chant that fans yell? Personally, mine is "Na, na,na,na,na,na,hey,hey...goodbye..." I loved when the the fans chanted it at Brock Lesnar in MSG at Wrestlemania XX, he deserved it.
Hi JR, I have to say that I'm overjoyed to see Taker get the title again. I know that the 2 main titles usually go to the up n coming talent to make them into main event superstars. It seems that once wrestlers reach that plateau, they may never get that strap back. Was Taker given his 5th run as a thank you from Vince? I know you don't make the decisions but I'm interested in your opinion because you work behind the scenes. Do you think that older champions like Benoit, RVD, Kane, or Eddie (if he was still around) will get another title run, or will they stick with the young lions? Kane especially deserves abother run considering the length of his only reign. And I'm happy that Big Show got one more run before he left.
OOh sorry JR forgot to mention My dream match lol. WM 24 Benoit vs Dean Malenko Ironman match as a tribute to Eddie Guerrero. What do you think?
Hey JR how are you doing? I actually wanted to talk to you about your thoughts on Chris Benoit and Rob Van Dam. In my mind Benoit is one of the 3 greatest technical wrestlers of all time. Tied with Bret the Hitman Hart and the Iceman Dean Malenko. I love the fact that Benoit likes to help get younger guys over but Benoit should be headlining smackdown main events along side the Undertaker. Taker has a great technical style when he so chooses to use it as I recall from his smackdown match with Kurt angle that was easily one of Taker's greatest. Im sure he could have an even better encounter with Benoit and that's a program that is wrestlemania quality in my book. Has anyone in the WWE thought about having them work together during taker's reign as World Champ? Ok now about Rob Van Dam. RVD is not a great technical wrestler but is an amazing athlete and one of the best in ring performers I've ever seen. His ability to sell moves and out over other guys while putting on a huge show for the fans is rivaled only by HBK i think. My question is this, with all the rumors of RVD leaving WWE for TNA as soon as his contract is up, is there any validity to the claims? In a way I would love to see RVD in TNA because I feel they would let him be a little more free with his in ring style. More so if not the same than he was back in his true ECW days, which is why I put any thought into those rumors. RVD loves that Indy style and I do believe he misses working it because thats when he was at his best. Ive seen him work good in the WWE inviroment as well but it seems there's very limited competition for him on that ECW roster. I remember an amazing match he had with HBK on Raw that i believe you called wher he and Shawn put on a classic performance and then Triple H interveined, Ok JR enough Reminissing with me hope you get to read this and congrats on the hall of fame induction you really do deserve it my friend.
will we see a new fourhorseman in the near future and will wwe cut its losses with deep south wrestling and just let go of all wwe talent that was sent there or bring them up to the main roster plus i think its a little early to be giving deuce and donimo the tag team championships they"ve only been on smackdown for what three months or so. I guess that shows how depleted the wwe talent pool is, I guess everybody has gotten out of the pool so to speak. you cant deny that wwe's talent roster has been lacking in the last couple of years with exceptions of Mr kennedy, carlito, and probably johhny nitro. and isnt that so called fan who won the intercontial title isnt that the guy who got slapped by jim cornette just asking
hi jr i am the guy you saw at buckingham palace today thank you so much for posing with me for a photo it came out good and after i saw you i went to mick foleys book signing this has to be one of the best days of my life i can't wait for raw on monday which i am attening thanks again
i think jim ross(you) would be great in tna, i mean if wwe dont want you , or you want a change, u could be a great fit in tna, since i heard your good friends with jim cornette &don west,i hope you join tna some day!!!
what are your thoughts on scotty too hotty, will scotty ever get a push??
Hey JR... Hope Europe is fun... In any case, since you've mentioned dream matches, what about Mr. Kennedy VS Mr. Perfect... Kennedy reminds me sometimes of Curt Hennig as far as personality... I know the styles are different, but I just like the sound of the two great "egomaniac" characters... I'm sure they'd tell a great story. Anyway, have fun in London, JR!
have we seen the last of mick foley in wwe as a wrestler???
will vince mcmahon ever buy mixed martial arts???
what are your thoughts on people booing cena out of bulding one week and loving him to death the next week???
will chris masters ever be a wwe champion??
JR, When you were a part of the Creative Team, What wrestling storyline/angle aired on RAW or SMACKDOWN would you consider to be distasteful and offensive? I am just curious to know. Well, I hope you have an excellent day! keep up the good work!! Victor W.
I know the hall of fame has passed and is old new by now, but I'm curious to see what you think of what my selections for the class of 2008. Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Owen Hart, Davey Boy Smith, The Von Erichs, Legion of Doom and Arn Anderson. Maybe too many big names, but it would definately bring the hype back to it. So what do you think?
Hello again JR! Hope all is going well overseas...I live in the same town as the Assasian here in GA and actually had the opportunity to work with him and Deep South Wrestling for a fundraiser. We were blessed to have William Regal and Dave Taylor hanging out in our gym. It was a big success and my wrestling kids really enjoyed it. I have just heard that DSW and WWE had parted ways. How does this affect those guys that are working there? Were they under WWE contracts? Lots of good talent there although rather green! I felt that the future of WWE was looking good with this group of men and women learning the ropes. Again, thanks for the time that you have put into this great business! PS.....Thanks also to the Moderator of your site for helping me remember the name of a former wrestler. It is very much appreciated! And yes I do remember Uncle Sammy from the show....Sorry to hear about his passing a couple of years back. Man those were the days! Thanks, Rod
hey J.R thanks for doing these blogs so often you must have some amount of patience!!! my question for you is the best way to break into the wrestling buisness. i am 18 years old and am in my first year of a four year college course. i know step one would to be finish my degree but whats step 2? ive been watching wrestling since i can remember and really want to give it a go. i know its a long and probably painfull and tough process to make it but i feel like i have to try it out.. congrats on hall of fame by the way you deserve it. ur voice is plastered on so many of the memorable wrestling moments in my life such as Rock Bottom, Rock Bottom, Rock Bottom!!! and the wrestlemania xx moment when benoit won the title. i was watching it live at 4 in the morning with school the next day!! also J.R i was wondeering what ur favourite style of wrestler is? mine would have to the style of bret hart or maybe kurt angle- someone who had tons of technical ability yet could chop and change when needed. credit to edge as well for being able to do something similar..i never tought he was as hardcore as he showed against mick foley!!
I have a couple of questions that need to be answered please! 1) Is is true that Vince directs the announcers on what to say? 2) If Q1 is correct then what happens if Vince is in the ring? 3) Are you allowed to do 'shout-outs' when you are broadcasting RAW? 4) Who do you think Mr Kennedy will defeat for his 1st world title reign, considering the fact that he's already had feuds with Undertaker, Batista & Lashley?
Santino Morella’s THE NEW IC CHAMP. I haven't seen someone picked out of the audience since EARTHQUAKE was picked out of the audience back in the day. I remember it because he was pretty high up in the seats and had to walk all the way down the isles to get to the ring and he was sitting on Warrior's(???) back when he was doing push ups in the ring. JR...you are the man. Go Sooners.
i have a quick question; what ever happened in long term champions? Seems like the current champions lose their belts within 3 months of winning them! Can u explain
Jeff Hardy Vs. Undertaker. Ladder Match for the WWE title on RAW. Remember that match? I think it's one of the 10 best matches ever for RAW. What are some matches from RAW that when they concluded you said to yourself, "Great stuff!"?
When I saw ECW the last couple of Tuesdays, once CM Punk turned heel, there was something throwing me off. At first, I couldn't put my finger on it. Finally, I realized what it was. CM Punk was smiling. Not just that, but, it turns out that CM Punk has a disarmingly peasant smile. It caught me off guard. I am going to hereby declare that CM Punk has the nicest smile in all of sports entertainment today. How about it?
JR, I am curious as to what you were doing twelve years ago today. Of course this was the day of a great tradegy in your home state. Given the tradegy of this past week, perhaps you can offer your thoughts on your experence of that day back in 1995.
Hi JR, Do you think Trish Stratus will return to the WWE one day, she is well and truely missed by the fans.
What is your favorite wrestlemania match of all time, and what is just your favorite match of alltime perioed.Mine would be Shawn michaels vs Bret Hart ironman match wrestlemania 12 thats also my favorite match of all time as well i would like to hear yours?
J.R, Just wanted to see your thoughts on this... If you had one show you could make with any matches you wanted on the card, what would the card be? Would it be mostly fantasy matches or re-lived matches?
Jim why do you kill innocent, defenseless animals and cover them in sauce?
