Benoit Tragedy.

Posted in:
The senseless and tragic death of the 3 people in the double murder-suicide that occurred over the weekend in the Benoit’s home in an Atlanta suburb is a nightmare that one still wants to awake from. For those of us that knew Chris, Nancy, and Daniel on a personal level it is still hard to believe that this horrific event could even occur much less why. The last time I saw the three of them together was at Wrestlemania 23 and my wife and I had a long visit with the Benoits and at no time could one detect that there were any issues whatsoever. I even had the occasion to speak at length privately to Nancy and she said things were fine at home. As well as Nancy and I knew each other, if that had not been the case, she would have inferred otherwise I assure you. Like so many others who attended the event on that night, the Benoit family was happy and enjoying the moment. So what happened? I do not know. No one knows. We will hopefully know more when the toxicology reports are completed. Until then all anyone has, including the media, is supposition based on speculation. To garner ratings, the media will continue to make this as huge a story as possible, even without all the facts. That’s the business in which they are involved. Remember when the media, without all the facts, essentially convicted the Duke Lacrosse team several months ago only to find out that there was no case but in the spirit of ratings and to scoop the competition, the three young men from the Duke Lacrosse team were in essence ruled guilty by the media? I know this damn sure isn’t a Duke Lacross matter or even remotely close, because two innocent people are dead. But again we hear the media rush to judgment about why and how this horrific chain of events came to pass, but still without the evidence or a valid motive. So then why are three people dead? What caused this irrational and totally uncharacteristic behavior from an individual who hereto for had never demonstrated such tendencies in his workplace, not even once? I don’t know and neither does anyone else until the medical examiner can provide more information and then there will be most likely questions in this matter than may never be answered. I know this, God knows and he will deal with this matter accordingly. Plus, some of those who have or are loosely associated with wrestling and who are making statements with little or no background of the facts of this matter or who simply want another 15 minutes are in a large sense pathetic. The bottom line is that a woman and a small child are dead of murder and that is an utter shame. That act is inexcusable. The victim’s families need to be held close to our hearts and in our prayers. Let’s consider putting forth as much passion and effort in prayer and reflection as some are in playing amateur detective and wannabe investigative reporters. Let’s spend a little more time with our own families while we are at it, because there are no guarantees about tomorrow and we should covet every day we are blessed to have with our loved ones. I know this, I am going to do all I can to spend more time with family and friends than ever before as this sad situation has slapped me in the face in more ways than one. I have had friends who questioned the Benoit-themed Monday Night Raw, especially in light of the events that occurred in the Benoit home. For all those who seem to know all the answers and seemingly like to give the appearance of having 20/20 vision after the fact let me add this; when we went on the air at 7 p.m. central time, all we knew was that the police, at the WWE’s urging, had gone to the home and had found three dead bodies in the Benoit home Monday afternoon. This information was confirmed to us late in the day Monday in Corpus Christi and that was all we knew. There was no talk from the authorities themselves of a double murder suicide that was relayed to us in Texas. The facts came out as the night progressed and more facts are still being released several days after this unspeakable nightmare. Obviously, and in my opinion, if the WWE had known the information of what had actually happened in suburban Atlanta over the weekend, a different decision regarding Monday’s three hour retrospective to Benoit’s career would have obviously been different. I know that Benoit’s behavior was totally uncharacteristic of him, as I knew him over so many years as he was one of the most professional and polite men with which I have ever been associated. I don’t know why this sickening chain of events happened, but murder, especially taking one’s own child’s life, is unpardonable. I am anxious to read the results of the toxicology reports as the next curious individual but the bottom line is that 3 people are dead including a mother and her son. It is not too late for all of us to change how we deal with our own families and our friends and to honor every day we have the privilege of being on this earth. Remember, we are all only passing through, so take every day as a gift and continue to count all one’s blessings. Today can truly be the first day in the rest of our lives. God Bless all of you that are suffering. Lean on God…He can handle it. J.R.

hello Jim! As i said before in my last message I'm a big fan of you and I think you're a big part of monday night raw! Well here in Portugal everybody says that wwe wrestling fights are assayed and everything the wwe superstars do in the ring or In WWE is, with danger or without it, pretended. Well i'm not sure about that after some matches i have seen so i ask you the question: is it pretended is it real? Please give me some anwers quikly! My e-mail is leocool_31@hotmail.com. Hopin' you're doin' well ... Leo
Hi JR!! Before I start I want you to Know that I realy aprecciate all the work that you have acomplished in WWE and I have all the respect in the world for you. About the tragedy I don't Know much but even in Portugal almost all the magazines talked about the Benoit family tragedy. In one of that magazines I read that the police found drugs in Benoit's house and and that makes me think that he did that in drugs afect. I don't know about you but I think that nothin' justifies what he did to his wife and his own son. He lost all of my respect for him and I think he just lost the chance to become a WWE legend.Well it's all! I hope you're doin' well! Bye!
dear jim ross who is going the next champion in the wwe raw on monday night will it be bobby lashely or will it be john cena.please send this to my email thank you bigmikegill57@yahoo.com
JUST A FEW QUESTIONS………… Mr. Ross, Why is WWE so afraid to admit that, there is a consistent and undeniable pattern of steroid/painkiller abuse in the entire wrestling industry? Not just a problem in the WWE but a twenty-year problem in the entire industry. How can McDevitt and the WWE testing doctor appear on national TV and say, with a straight face, that there isn’t steroid use in the WWE, knowing the cartoonish size of the current talent that is "on top"? Can you get that physique from protein powder and vitamins off the shelve at GNC? Why hasn't Vince demanded 10 to 20% of the talents pay go into a mandatory “Players Fund” or “Wrestler Performers Annuity”, so that when they are fifty, they still have a couple of dollars to live on? For that matter, knowing the short shelve life of a wrestler and the lack of maturity most have to save for the future, why doesn't Vince have an inner moral code that makes him almost take control of the talents finances and help insure the financial security of the talent? Why is WWE so afraid to be “babysitters” to the talent? Doesn’t the talent deserve it? Why doesn't Vince strongly suggest, in fact implore that, the talent get involved with someone like Donald Trump and his company to help buy and manage real estate around the country? Why doesn’t the WWE consistently reinforce to ALL it’s talent that, their employment will NOT last forever and they should start to plan for the rest of their life the minute they sign a contract? Wouldn’t any business owner, with a conscious, reinforce that scenario? Why did the WWE suggested to a performer that he should, “hire a nanny” when he desired time off to help his wife with a newborn child? Is that a page out of the “wellness program”? Why did the WWE force Deborah to sign a "gag" order when she claimed Steve Austin hit her? Why does it seem that Vince relishes in developing a star just to pull the rug out from underneath them? How can the WWE, with good conscious, say that the 65 deaths are not their problem when only five were under contract at the time of their deaths? What about the former workers whose addiction started while employed by Vince and the WWF/WWE? Would the owner of a car dealership, accounting firm, construction company have the same pathetic "they weren't under contract" excuse like the WWE has tried to float by the public for the past few weeks? Why will no one recognize that this business sometimes brings about horrendous demons and the talent often needs help to "exorcise" these demons? Why does the WWE keep talking about personal accountability, when they know the lure of fame, money and validation is so powerful that most people would take any risk to achieve and maintain it? Why has the WWE not replied back the AWA's desire to start an advocacy group for all retired wrestlers? Is this an indication of their lack of desire to help the entire industry and people who in turn helped Vince build his empire? Will Vince ever rid himself of the “promoter mentality”? Last question. He is a billionaire, he has an intelligent, adoring wife, two beautiful children, he is the undeniable master of an entire industry…he has pulled the winning lottery ticket in life…does he really need to put himself through this kind of “heat”? Will he ever sincerely change the industry or does he deep down enjoy this real life soap opera? Respectfully submitted, Jon Alan Stewart Vice President – Talent Relations AWA Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.
Mr.Ross, I was lead to your site by Mr.Helms. I have read what you wrote and I would like to THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Your words are so true. I am VERY upset by what the media has put out there. I know it's the HOT story but in the manner that Miss Nancy and little Daniel died SHOULD NOT have been reported. I was so offended as a mother of 2 small children and as a woman. I wrote a blog about it myself on my myspace account. I just hope and pray that they can find out why this happend. God Bless you and your family and to the WHOLE WWE family. Amanda
JR, I couldn't agree with you more. I am still in shock over the tragedy and can not concieve that Chris would do something like this. It is heartbreaking for everyone. Even though I have never met any WWE superstars, when something like this happens, I wish I did. God is the only judge in this case, and all we can do is mourn the great loss and try to go on. God Bless, JR... Paula (Wisconsin)
I sit here and watch every news report dealing with steroids and the Benoit tragedy. I believe that Benoit was a very loving man to his family. I know he loved his son with everything he had. His wife Nancy was his crutch for when he was home from the ring. He loved the both of them like no tomorrow. I believe that the most memorable moment will be that night of WrestleMania 20 as that family stood in the ring celebrating the World Heavyweight Championship that Benoit worked so hard to earn. If we look back on inspirational wrestlers you can say Benoit was one of them as he was the underdog in the that Royal Rumble match. He went through all 29 men to get to the top. If we all sit here and think about it. Both Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero were the most inspiring wrestlers probably of all time with their whole personal life stories. Both men had their struggles and personal demons to fight. Both men overcame them and became better people to entertain us fans. Both men were sudden shocks. The week Eddie died, there was a scheduled match for the WWE Championship on Friday Night Smackdown. Just like Benoit he had a title shot for the ECW Heavyweight Championship. In both story lines I think both were suppose to win. These great gladiators, we can never chant in the arenas, when they have retired and become legends,"ONE MORE MATCH." Because they have conquered the greated match of them all. That is life. I have been a fan of the WWE since 2001. I love it so much and I give all appreciation for what those men and women do to their bodies in the four sided circle. Thank you and God Bless.
it sad what benoit did u are right jr what u said about it do u know when the test are come back they did cnn, nbc or fox new did not say anything yet about test yet do u know yet? ur friend and ur fan jennyfer
What Happened in the toxicology reports? I never heard on Nancy Grace (CNN) Or on Larry King Live on Monday night what had happened.
J.R., Over the past few weeks, it has really saddened me to look back on the Benoit tragedy. I have almost obsessed with myself, over one and only one question that I have about the whole incident. Was Chris Benoit a Christian? I have asked myself that over and over, just out of a deep seeded need to know if he was saved or not. I know that the bible says that children prior to the age of accountability are permitted into heaven, but I long for the answer on whether or not Chris had salvation at the time of his death. I thought since you knew him and his family well, that you may have the answer. I know that what he did was horrific, however, I believe God is a forgiving and loving God, despite how badly we act here on earth. Do you know? Did Chris ever share his faith with you, or, maybe with HBK as his brother in Christ? If you know, and could tell me, it may help me to understand what happened a little better, on some level anyway. I am concerned for his soul, but take comfort in knowing that little Daniel got his wings as he drew his last breath. Really concerned fan. Thanks.
Mr. J.R. Why is the WWE seeming to take the stand of "Unfortunately Chris Benoit worked for us" and "We should not have done the 3 hour tribute"? I mean I agree with you what Chris did was Unpardonable! BUT as you said and as many others said that night (the night of the 3 hour tribute) Chris was a kind caring friendly man who never had a harsh word and never made trouble. No one knows what led to these actions, no one knows what problems Chris was suffering from to do this. But to me that should not take away from the years of entertainment that he has given, or the very talented individual that he was. I mean now more than ever is a time for that kind of tribute to show people what kind of person he was inside the ring and amongst friends. Because the media is going to town on the MURDER/Suicide. Now is the time in my opinion for the WWE to say "We did not know Chris was battling the demons he was battling and we do not condone his actions, but the Chris Benoit we new was a great guy, and a tremendous athlete and we want to take a night and honor the Chris Benoit we new and loved" No one other than God himself knows why Chris killed his family and himself! And I think it is wrong that the WWE has taken the actions they have taken and tried to seperate themselves from Chris. Thank you for your cander and and straight forward responces to emails.
I blame the Warrior.
This just seems to unbelieveable. Are the police even 100% sure that this wasn't a frame? I mean after all. Some article gets posted about Nancys death some 12 hours before the police even arrive and they say its just coincidental? Thats a little to coincidental I think. I feel that is more to this story and I'm not fully convinced this was murder/suicide. Does anyone else feel this way?
Hi JR and everyone given everthing that happend i would first like to say how sorry i am to the benoits family for the loss.I think manny people seem to be jumping the gun a little bit about what happend. shure what happend was sad the wwe lost one of its finest wrestlers and the family lost there son. But i think everyone should try to rember cris benoit as a great wrestle. someone who fans around the world likeed and respected. we should try and rember times like chris benoit and eddie gurreo standing in the ring both as champions both proud of the others accomplishments truly that was a great moment and that is how i will rember benoit a champion and the best dam tenichal wrestler in the wwe and i think everyone will agree with me when i say come the next hall of fame chris benoit should definetly be put into it.thanks you for you time jr an every one wh reads this. hugh heelan
I don't condone benoit's actions (if it is proven after all investigations conclude that he did commit these acts), but why the recall of merchandise from stores? Pulling everything off wwe's site about him is one thing, but recalling merchandise from retail stores nationwide is just going a little too far I and many others think. There is still a demand for items as is apparent from a rise in ebay sales of benoit merchandise. Makes me wonder if at some point in the future merchandise will be sold once again thus driving more revenue for wwe from older "collectable" items that have been recalled. I would like to point out that in this country people are innocent until proven guilty tho, not just in life, but in death as well. I think it is very wrong how spokesmen for the police came issued such a quick statement on the matter without proper time needed for a thorough investigation to even start and has yet to be completed. I wish people would stop forming there own conclusions (like vince calling him "monster") and just wait until investigators are finished with the actual investigations. Do you not agree that it was a little premature for police officials to come out publicly with the "double murder - suicide" label slapped on nice and neat for the media without a reasonable investigation to take place?
JR, as always you have an unbelievable great opinion on this tradgedy. I Mr. Benoit and I cannot begin to understand why he did what he did, if he did do it. He was the best damn technical wrestler of my time. He was a unbelievable wrestler and an incredible performer. I too believe that he will be missed for his characteristics in this business, as I believe he should. He put everything on the line for this business and he had so many fans. I will him for the athelete he was, the caring individual he seemed to be before these events and the role model many wrestlers looked up too. I pray that if Mr.Benoit did this that god forgive his soul and have mercy on him. As for Daniel and Nancy, may you rest in peace and may god find a special place for you in heaven. You all three will be missed. I just wish that WWE and others would cherish Chris Benoit for the man he was before June of 2007. For his astonishing career. I think it is sickening that the WWE has dropped all of his stuff and has no part of this man that at one time was a phenomenal athlete, entertainer and man. He did make a mistake, we are all humans and I feel the man that we new before this tradgedy should still be in rememberance on the WWE website. My opinion, and despite his last choices on earth. He was a good man. God Bless Everyone RIP Benoit's!!
I'm still stunned by this story.... and it seems the media is pushing an idea that people who knew him have a hard time swallowing. What troubles me most are some of his fans abandoning him without knowing the facts. Something in my heart tells me there's more to this than we are being told. I will wait until all of it comes out before making any judgements!
Good old J.R. as always a voice of reason in a crazy world. I hope that with the vast library of the WWE that there will be a tribute to Nancy as well. Some of us still remember that she was part of the sport that we all love. For her not to be remembered in that way would be tragic as well. For J.R. I remember growing up around your voice and to this day you are still the best.
I can not belive that(former superstar of wwe) debra went on the news and said what she said about Chris Benoit. She was going off anger while everyone else was still in shock about what happend. She changed the death of a great superstar and im sure a great friend to everybodey he knew and made it seem like it was the same thing that she went threw. Im not saying she didnt go thrw alot but to say what she said and bring it up when she did was not needed.Im sure it brought more pain to his family, and friends.
At 7:20pm tonight it will be exactly one week since I turned on Raw and sadly discovered once again that another one of my all time favorite wrestlers has passed away. I turned on Raw about 15 minutes into it and the first thing I saw was Kurt Angle? Jericho? RVD? Big Show? I was confused to say the least. When I realized it was an old Royal Rumble I first thought Vince had something to do with the outcome of the match seeing it was supposed to be a "tribute" to him. Then I saw it. "REMEMBERING CHRIS BENOIT" To say I was surprised by his death would be incorrect. Shocked and completely disturbed is how I felt when I found out what had happened. A week later I still can't believe this has happened. My heart goes out to everyone who was affected by this tragedy. As something unimaginable had to be happening in Chris Benoit's mind at the time of this terrible crime, my heart goes out to him as well. RIP
I like so many others, really don't want to believe what seems to be coming from the media that Chris killed his family, and then himself, and want to believe the conspiracy theories that someone else who had it in for the family did it in some bizarre way, or that they're not really dead, and it's all part of some storyline. I really hope that the authorities can prove it was Chris, or that it was someone else and bring that person to justice, so that something like this doeesn't happen again.
JR, great job with what you have said. I believe Vince did the right thing under the circumstances. WWE didn't know the facts of this terrible incidents until the next day. I am a HUGE wrestling fan and can't remember anytime that I wasn't. I grew up in Memphis watching your monday night partner, Jerry "The King" Lawler, "The Fabulous" Jackie Fargo, "The Superstar" Bill Dundee, the late great, Big John Studd, back then known as Big John and the list gopes on and on...the late Sam Bass, who was one of the greatest managers of ALL time. This whole situation seems so unreal to me. I'm 38yrs old and have watched wresting from the territorial days all the way through to now. Wrestling has always been there for me, the stars that give their all to entertain the fans. They work so many days, traveling, so much time away from their families. This situation could be on ANYONE, this time it just so happened to be a professional wrestler. I hate the actions of Chris did to Nancy and their beautiful son, it almost feels like a part of my own family, since I have been a wrestling fan for so long. I'm not even calling Chris a monster, know one knows what was happening in his mind, psycotics can push people to the limit to where they are not in control, if Chris did definitely do this he may not have realized what he did then been so distraught upon coming to his senses he took his own life. The man was one of the best of all time....I will always remember the man i saw in the ring every week and think what a great competitor, he gave alot to the wrestling world, he gave alot to his fans. I am so sorry it came to this. I feel so bad for Nancy family and the Benoits... GOD BLESS YOU ALL. But nonetheless. Chris laft a legacy in the wrestling industry, and it will carry on,it's definitely tarnished, but with the true wrestling fan, like myself, there is no way at all, you can look at wrestling and forget what the "Rabid Wolverine" did for the business... God Bless All That This Has Affected, God Bless The WWE RIP Nancy and Daniel, Chris I will miss you and your talent in the ring. I always have the memories. If you did do this, I am NOT the one to JUDGE. The Good Lord will be the one to hand down judgement....So RIP to you as well.
Thank you J.R. My thoughts and prayers will continue to go out for Nancy and Daniel as well as Chris. Strange how this tragedy has made us all refer to them on a first name basis. I support the WWE in their decision to do the Benoit tribute show, no one could have known how horrific the truth would turn out to be. I am sure that Vince would have pulled the tribute instantly had he known. As we can see since the "facts" have come out, Vince has divorced the WWE completely from Chris Benoit. I wish that a show had been done with the WWE stars speaking with the information we have now. It is hard for many fans including myself the reconcile the Chris Benoit of the past 20 years with the Chris Benoit that existed for 3 days a weekend past. I'm sure it is many times harder for the wrestlers to do but I know every wrestler I hear speak seems to make a a little easier to move on. My prayers go out to every one involved in this tragedy from the Daniel, Nancy, Chris and their families all the way to the average fan. May God grant us all closure to move on.
I don’t understand how everyone is just plain out not acknowledging this man’s significant contribution over the last two decades to the wrestling world. I understand that it is a horrible tragedy that a wife and child has been taken before there right full time but so has a heroic figure as well. I know that in my heart this does not qualify as a mistake (if indeed they can with out a doubt prove that he did it and no one else was in the house) but should all that he has accomplished be simply forgotten? I mean my children has grew up playing his character on video games since they were old enough to hold controllers and yet on WWE .com there is almost nothing left of him there. You try it and are simply shocked! I don’t ask for murderers to be glorified but they are everyday and why would it be so macabre to have a shirt out or something to hold on to that remembers him and what he stood for all these years for so many people? When people die doesn’t everyone always say that you should remember them for who they were not how they died??
J.R. I agree with you on the fact that as always the media is dragging this up and out just for ratings. I tried to listen to Debra "whatever her last name is now" and as she did when she was a diva, she absolutely grinds on my last nerve! Talk about another agenda! Let's see . . . leaves Steve McMichael after he's out of the limelight and money, follows Jeff Jarrett to the WWE and latches on Austin, leaves him not after his arrest for physical abuse, but after he is forced to leave main event status... so go back to who ever you are married to now and please if you want to help . . . help yourself first. Enough on her . . . what I really want to convey to you is please use what ever influence you have to convince the WWE to clean this buisness up. I am 48 years old and have been a huge fan for 42 of them. You as well as I remember the stars of old and still hear stories of the drug and alcohol escapades of The Iron Shiek, Ric Flair, Michael Hayes ( who makes regular mention (bragging) on The Legends episodes on 24/7.), etc . . . J.R. is it going to take one of the superstars to "SNAP" in front of miilions of witnesses before something is really done to curtail the physical and mental stress on these young men and women of performing. I know the good ole days mat wrestling are lomg gone. I appreciate that Vince has tried to do something for their physical well being by instituting the wellness program, it is all too clear that alot of the superstars are far from being steroid clean. I for one don't need the guys to be ripped on top of big. They can be more than big enough, strong enough, nimble enough without having to look "pretty" also. I do respect the guys like Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes (now there's an Adonis for ya. . . lol) etc . . . that brought entertainment and flare to all the fans without the juice. The young guys need to know that we really don't want them to destroy themselves for us. Eddie Guerrero was constantly worried about if he did a good job . . . man what a performer! I'm just want the guys and gals of pro wrestling to know and BELIEVE that there are other things besides alcohol and recreational drugs that will end their careers. J.R. I am just and old wrestling fan that wants to be an even older wrestling fan. If you could please just pass on to Vince that we can easily miss our favorites performing a few days, weeks, even months of them in the ring, than having to miss them forever. Not to mention having another tragedy such as this ever happening again. Thank you for all you do to make wrestling enjoyable!
when will things like this end in prof wrestling i think that its not fair how these men who preform 2 entertain us they put there bodys on the line 4 us every week only 2 have there life cut short i hope that any 1 associated with chris benoit is ok and my thoughts go out to them and evey1 in the wwe thanx 4 all ur hard work j,r and thanx 2 the wwe aswell p.s sorry if this sounds confussing but im not very good with words
I've been a wrestling fan since I was eight or nine years old. This tragedy continues to stir my thoughts. I wanted to cry, but I couldn't. I'm sorry for Chris, but I pity his wife, especially their son, for I am a father of three. May God deliver justice...
Too many unanswered questions. Yhe yext messages seem to imply that, by giving his physical addy, he needed help. The dogs are outside? Side door is open? Sounds like to me he was telling help that the dogs couldn't help him, and how they could get into the house. Did they run prints on the phone? This wasn't 'Roids, or even Crack. Drugs don't make you kill people in this type of way over a two day period. Whether it be Chris, or someone we don't know was in the house (which is my bet), it was a deliberate, mythotical murder that was conducted by a sick individual. I'm still believing the conspiracy theory. Until I read this, I thought myself and the judge on Geraldo last night, were the only ones that thought that....
I agree with what you said JR and i want add my name to the list of people standing up for WWE regarding the episode of Raw dedicated to Benoit. I didn't see the episode but if all that WWE knew at the time the show went on the air was that Chris, his wife and son were dead then they made the right decision. After hearing about seome of the media speculation it makes me sick what these people will do for ratings. I am not a fan or supporter of Mr. Mcmahon, but he made the right decision here, despite what some in the media are saying. Maybe they should try looking in the mirror and examine the way they spread rumors instead of waiting for the facts. As far as Chris Benoit is concerned, this is some of the saddest news i've heared in a long time. I'm 21 years old and been a wrestling fan since i was 5, and Benoit is one of the best i've ever seen. I first saw him in WCW and have since become a fan of his work in ECW and Japan and cannot believe what has happened. Seeing him interviewd on the Hard knocks DVD he always seemed to be someone with so much integrity. The last person that would be involved with something like this. I stayed up to 5am to watch him win the world title at Wrestlemania 20 and can't remember feeling happier for another human being, especially one i've never met. Even if the facts surrounding this story are as bad as everyone fears i just want to say that it should not overshadow his career. Under the circumstances i will support whatever decision WWE make in the future regarding a possible place in the hall of fame. However, in my mind Benoit will remain one of the best wrestlers the wrestling business has ever produced. His years of hard work, perseverance and classic matches can not be erased by anything in my mind. No matter what the facts i will always be inspired by his hard work and perseverance. Thanks Jr. God bless.
TO ALL THE BENOIT FANS Whatever happened with him in his last few hours, I can only say that he was the greatest wrestler ever. And pretending like he never existed isn't my way of remembering his career. So I suggest that tomorrow night at the start of Raw, we the fans try to find closure and healing. Let us at our homes ring a bell 10 times in respect of Chris, his wife, and their son, and after that light a candle for their souls. May they rest in peace
I have to say JR you are a great man in wrestling. The Chris Benoit story has been on my heart since the second I found out about it. I don't think Benoit would do such acts. But yet again I wasn't there. But I will pray for the souls of his family. Thanks JR!!!
JR, Thank you for looking at the big picture. It has been a tough week for every fan. I personally met Chris a few years ago. I also talked to Nancy for a moment when she was in ECW. We may never know what could make him do this. I will always remember his matches and what he accomplished in the WWE. Ya JR even taken everything about him off WWE.com wont make people forget. Changing the description of WrestleMania to delete his name wont make anyone forget he was there. Keep that in mind. I mean that in no disrespect to you cause I know you dont control that. I just had to say it. This just goes to teach everyone that life is to short.
Sorry I was cut off in my previous post. But after reading your post, JR, I see that it is not the case. The media is looking to cash in on this tragedy. It would have been left alone if the suspect wasn't in the eye of the media. Looking at it, people are trying to knock down pro wrestling notch by notch. They mention other wrestlers who have died but not the facts of HOW THEY DIED. Maybe some of them had used steroids in the past but their deaths (like a bus wreck or such) play no part whatsoever in how they died. I grew up with pro wrestlers, hell, I had dinner at my grandma's house with many of the greats including Jake The Snake, The Iron Sheik, Brutus Beefcake, and JYD when I was a little kid. I have been watching Benoit since NWA and into ECW. He was a great showman and wrestler. One of the best. One who many in the field can gain knowledge from and from what I hear, he passed it along to them. Some people like to keep to themselves; that is just their nature. I myself am one of them. Maybe he had some problems at home and didn't want to broadcast it to others, that was his right. If this was related to "Roid Rage" then all would have been said and done in the first night. Not dragged out over the hours and days. There was something deep seeded in Chris, but we will never know. Many people are good at hiding things from the rest of the world. And JR, you said yourself that you have known Nancy (Woman) for many years and she would have no qualms about telling you if there was something sour. Unless reports say differnt, all we really can do is speculate and run through the rumor mill (I personally love the Satanism theory because one of the first rules in the Satanic Church is Not To Harm Children... Much less anyone else)until all of the facts come to light. I am an Athiest but I hope that Daniel, Nancy, and Chris have found a better place to live in peace.
After keeping my google on news alrets about Chris Benoit since this past RAW, things come to light and yet some things get confusing. As far as I knew (from one report) is that the WWE knew about what had gone down in Benoit's home. After watching the memorials from the wrestlers on RAW, you kind of believe that they all knew because they all talked about what a quiet, calm, respectful guy he was and Stphanie's spot where she talked about him calling her and congratulating her on her and Paul Lavesque's child and how family is the best part of life. How he was one of the few to congratulate them on their engaement. Edge was probably one of the most emotional of the bunch especially when he talked about Daniel doing exercises with his dad and how he wore a white shirt and tie whenever he saw him. He said he couldn't understand how something like this could happen.
In the end, I hope this will be a tremendous, invaluable learning experience for all. Fool me one, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on you. 5 days later and everything is still a fog and a tremendous pain here in the wrestling community. Here in the greater Tampa Bay area where a preponderance of wrestlers either live, retire and the great history of the business through here. Regardless, this is a tragedy for everyone. I said it before, the pains and rigors of the business has put tremendous strife on families. Perhaps my favorite in ring performer, Ric Flair is now into his 3rd marriage and went through a very nasty divorce from his 2nd wife that was very public along with a nasty road rage incident. In the end, we are all human beings. I want to think of Ric Flair in the highest of regards as well as everyone else who is in sports entertainment. I still enjoy Ric Flair to this day, either he does what he does for the enjoymment or the adoration of the fans, because I am certainly going to go out on a limb and imagine he doesn't need the money. Bottom line, and I said this before, to whoever reads this, I am a fan, a consumer and a shareholder of this great company. Guys as eloquent and thoughtful as Chris Jericho and Joe Laurinaitis (Animal) and Superstar Billy Graham said it best this week. But the tragedy remains about a 7 year old child being gone and Nancy, Daniel and Chris all gone. I hope as a true catharsis, that Vince, Linda, Shane and Stephanie will allow the talent and the "boys" to speak and let their feelings be known. I know there is a gag placed over the talent right now, and I know the public perception WWE is trying to maintain and defend. In the end, Vince and you (JR) are only as good as guys like John Cena, Edge and Lashley are. Its a cycle and everyone works hard to get everyone else over and in turn make more money for everyone. Everyone needs to speak and be heard and be encouraged to be heard. Once again, thank you. In the end, life goes on. The name "Benoit" is mud now in WWE's eyes and can and never be mentioned again. Very sad, but understandable. May the families find some sort of peace and understanding and tranquility if at all possible. May they all be in our thoughts and prayers.
To begin with I wanted to say how sorry I was to hear about what happened last weekend. I have never met Chris personally but I have watched wrestling for more years than I care to write about. Without meeting them personally you get a sense of how they are in person. In the ring Chris and Bret Hart were probably the best. How they were outside the ring I couldn't possibly know except for what I have heard this week. Chris was a great father but both he and Nancy were having problems dealing with Daniel. Many of us have gone that route before. Not just with Daniel's problems but with so many childhood problems that are out there. I talked to my wife about this incident this week. She could care less about wrestling. But she said early on in the week that probably Chris and Nancy had some sort of fight about Daniel or whatever. It may have been 'roid rage', too much drinking. Who knows? Chris ended up killing Nancy. Accidently or on purpose who knows? After that he was lost as to what to do. He still had a son to take care of. Obviously the police would find out he killed Nancy so he'd go to jail. What would become of Daniel? He had no good solution so he killed Daniel and later killed himself. Do I agree with any of these actions. Not in the least. There had to be somebody out there that could watch over Daniel and obviously there was no reason to kill Nancy. But I believe that Nancy was killed by accident and unfortunately everything escallated from that point on. Again for whatever reason. Our thoughts and prayers are with Nancy and Daniel at this time. And yes for Chris too. He was a good person who made some very bad choices at the end. Hopefully we'll find out what happened but we may never know about last weekend. That will be difficult. Please remember the families and keep them in your prayers.
I have watched Wrestling for the past 35 years and have been surprised many a time but this is a shock. A real true tragedy. I find it puzzling how some of the "EX" wrestling stars and the "infotainment" media are quick on the high horse to blame this tragedy on "Roid Rage" and to get it's chance to knock the WWE. To make that judgement before hearing all the facts is more than irresponsible on the main stream medias part and they damn well know it. Nothing can change what happened but to use this tragedy to push one's political correctness is a damn shame! Keep on doing what your doing WWE for your fans well out number the critics. RIP Daniel, Nancy and Chris.
I am sad and conflicted about this whole situation. I respect what WWE has done so far, From the tribute and the retraction on Tuesday after receiving more information. As for Chris, I can not forget what he has done in his career and his last moments. I also can not stand in a position to condemn him or pass judgement, only God has that right. My only hope is someday WWE will again be able to acknowledge his contribution to wrestling and maybe honor him in the hall of fame. Until then I will keep my DVR copy of Monday's tribute as how I want to feel about him, and not the blotters that I saw Tuesday. May we all be remembered for our greatest moments and not our worst failures, the whole of our lives and not just our last moments. May Nancy and Daniel find peace in Heaven.
Thank You J.R. for your upfront truthfulness to US the Fans. And I also agree with George Homer Above. JR , Have you heard of what the Text messages may have said??. And I have one other question. I heard there was concern on Sunday . Why did it take so long for someone to send someone over to check out the House??. Keep up the good Work JR. Jack K.
I have been watching wrestling for about 25 years and there has been so many great wrestlers pass away, They live such a private and rough life on the road 365 days a year for most, and I think the pressures of fans and the lime life get into their heads too much. Trying to please us fans is hard to do. It is sad that Chris is gone he will be truly be missed. He was a very good athlete, and athletes who have the skill that Chris had are hard to come by. Thank you!
Thank you for being the one person I've heard so far that doesn't say bad things about Benoit.
Jr, I want to say, that I have been a fan of wrestling since I was 10 years old. I used to be glued to the T.V. every time WCW came on, and I didn't care if it were a rerun or not, I was there watching it. Being a girl, my mother use to bawk at my passion for wrestling. I have read story after story, report after report, trying to figure out what may have gone on to make the circumstances of the Chris Benoit family unfold. Like you, I sit in utter disbelief and shock. I do not put him down or judge him for what has happened and shake my head at those that do. I truely wish people would not put all sports *or wrestlers* in the same pot and pass judgement on the business as a whole. Some people do drugs, it doesn't mean everyone does and the same goes with wrestlers...some take sterriods, but not all do. What a shame, a shocking shame. My heart goes out to his family and friends...the friends that do not judge the "story" we all have heard. No one knows what chain of events made this unfold the way it did and I feel that people should remember Chris Benoit for what we KNOW to be fact; which is he was a GREAT technical wrestler, an uplifting and generous person who loved his family deeply. I commend you and your comments as well as articles. You have the right state of mind during this all....Let God judge, and let us remember the positive. God Bless you, Erin March *just a dedicated female fan for over 22 years)
J.R. I have been a wrestling fan for 21 years now and I want to say thankyou to you, Vince, and the WWE. I am so proud to be a wrestling fan. The WWE has handled this difficult situation so much better than everybody else. You handle it with respect and dignity. The news media has gone off and did what they usually do and try to destroy credibility that you and the WWE have. They don't have respect for anybody. They say things with half of the information. I am so thankful that we have people like you who just want all the facts before a judgement is made and not making more than it is. I hope you and the WWE keep doing what your doing.
chris love and miss you but at least you are not alone you have friends and god in heaven unlike kevin here on earth
Thank you for your words and voice of reason. They come from the heart and resonate in mine.
I must say, awesome job JR. Why has WWE been getting all of the heat? It's not your guy's fault about what happend. Now all of a sudden they (the news reporters, etc.)bring up all of the deaths just to find more ways to bring down WWE. Look at the wrestlers who have died before age 65. They made bad choices and that's why they died. It's not WWE'S fault. Hopefully someone can represent this idea because they don't know jack you know what about wrestling, seriously!
What is sane, normal;and/or correct? As general public becomes obsessed with the "Moral Acceptable Standings" by which we judge others as well as base only high standards of living. None of us can, should, or will pass judgement/or execute a mans state of lunicy by the recent events passed. We were not present to confirm any such speculation as to the personal state of mind, and visions,or beliefs held as truth/personal correction. I feel sorry for what has hapened to "All" involved, and only wonder of the personal torture of decision to the actions that were carried out. I pray for all INCLUDING Chris, and his fellow freinds, and workers.
Hello J.R. How are you doing in this terrible time. I can tell you that I am not doing to good. I cant get Benoits death off my mind. I cant wait for the results to come back and if Benoit wasnt taking steroids that would be great in a way because then the media can shut the heck up and stop criticizing the WW, which they have no right doing. Just because these guys are big strong guys doest mean they all take steroids. Anyway, in time we will be able to tell what happened. Also, I am sorry J.R. if I offended you before in making early assumptions about Benoit's death. I know I have no right, but with the deaths being spread out and Benoit not telling anyone about the deaths, I just dont see any other possibility. Hopefully I am wrong...
AS I WATCH THE NEWS IM WONDERING ,IS THIS GOING TO GET ANY WORSE THEN IT ALREADY IS?
