Random Thoughts (from ouinsider.com)

Random thoughts from under the 200X black, Resistol hat while counting down the days until Sooner Football practice starts from a BBQ lovin’, Sooner fanatic who is extremely optimistic about the 2007 college football season.

This is not a “Sooner quarterback” column. So if that is your obsession, sorry to disappoint. I have not had to adjust any medication worrying about who will be the OU starting QB this season, but I do think the picture will clear up by August 15.

That’s two weeks after fall practice starts and two weeks prior to hosting North Texas. For some, it is three weeks prior to “The U” coming to town. Not that I’m keeping tabs of such data.

If you are a fan of great, slow smoked Bar-B-Q and you are a person who enjoys healthy snacks like J.R.’s Beef Jerky, then you are the kind of person who deserves.. .FEEDBACK!

Jesselee- We are not planning on bringing back the black hats on the lids of our Bar-B-Q Sauce as that matter is really challenging to facilitate and we found that the bottles went missing their hats more often than not. Somewhere, someone has a whole stash of little black hats that came off the bottles of our sauce. We are exploring the option of going to plastic bottles for all our sauces which would make them much less expensive to ship.

bd-I don’t feel as if the WWE is exploiting the seriousness of concussions with the Randy Orton storyline, but are certainly drawing attention to the dangers of suffering from a concussion. There has always been a fine line between fact and fiction in wrestling which, in some circles, is referred to as suspending one’s disbelief. When the announcer’s change their tones or their delivery, it is to better fit the moment that we are in and often times is a function of how announcers are produced. I have no idea what we will ever be able to do when our “levels” reach those that some remember for bona fide, tragic moments other than step aside and have new announcers without these experiences handle the show because there will be times when that particular delivery is called for. J.R.’s Superstar of the Week - Randy Orton (posted at WWE.com)

Greetings from under the black, 200X Resistol hat from your resident Sooner, who is knee-deep in “Q” and preparing for a trip to the desert for Tucson, Ariz.’s Monday Night Raw. (Would that be the “A” show, the No. 1 show, the flagship show, or the simply “the show up and go to work show”?)

This week’s royal panel consisting of Jerry “The King” Lawler, King Boo-kah, King Cobra, Moondog King, King Harley Race, King Kong Bundy, the most recent King of Extreme, and Sgt. Preston of the Yukon’s trusty, husky “King” has selected the WWE’s “most beautiful male wrestler” (his words not mine), Randy Orton, as Raw Superstar of the Week. Instead of the usual gifts from J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurant and lovely parting gifts, young Randall will receive a gift certificate for a free facial and a manicure from his favorite salon in his hometown of St. Louis.

All is well in Norman, Oklahoma USA and we are staying busy at J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q, after being open now for a little over two weeks. It seems that the word of mouth advertising we are getting is really doing the trick as we have done no formal advertising nor have we had an organized “grand opening”. We continue to exceed our expectations, which is a credit to our great team at J.R.’s preparing and serving main event level food. I am spending time at the restaurant every day I am in Norman and enjoying every minute of it. I hope to see you there sometime soon if you are able to make the drive.

Our Beef Jerky business is growing like crazy here on our site and we sincerely believe we produce the best Jerky money can buy and invite you to try it. With little or no fat and no carbs, J.R.’s Beef Jerky is a healthy snack that I take on the road with me every week I travel to do Monday Night Raw. Our current Hall of Fame packages provide a great deal on the Jerky and some signed shirts that we hope you will consider. Nonetheless our Jerky is gaining so much in popularity that it looks as if several major convenience stores in Oklahoma will start selling our products. Obviously if these items do well, we have the chance to place them in stores outside Oklahoma which has always been one of our goals. (more…)

More Feedback..

“Let’s get to your feedback you Bar-B-Q lovin’
Knuckleheads.”

Chris- I agree that Goldberg and Hogan returning to the WWE would be most interesting and most likely stimulate ratings but it “ain’t going to happen”. It takes two to tango and they aren’t dancing these days. Not that there is any thing wrong with that.

Jim- I ate at Abdullah’s House of Ribs and Chinese Food many years ago and enjoyed it a great deal. But there is only one J.R.’s……

JBates- The Austin DVD will be out in February of 2008, as I understand it. The Condemned DVD will be out in September.

Jake- Jonathan Coachman is the “acting” General Manager I am told. Yes, I agree that Cena vs. Kennedy has a significant upside but to say it might be the next Rock vs. Austin is a tall order to fill. (more…)

My thanks to everyone for the kind words and especially to those who have eaten at J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q in Norman. I appreciate all of your support, especially from you folks who have driven GREAT distances to dine with us. We are doing our best to serve great food and provide friendly service and thus far our team is delivering the goods. As you can tell by our previous blogs many readers have reviewed our place and thus far the feedback has been on the money. WE are proud of what we are building and will continue to work as hard as possible to serve all that pass thru our doors with nothing but great food and a smile and a thank you. If things continue to be as productive as our first week has been, we may be talking “expansion” sooner than later. I kid my buddies that I want to be the “Colonel Sanders of Bar-B-Q”. I am still a firm believer that dreams do come true and my Bar-B-Q Dreams are becoming a reality every day. (more…)

Greetings from under the black, 200X Resistol hat from the WWE’s resident Oklahoman, who will be west coast bound this weekend and looking forward to being a part of The Great American Bash MANY years after broadcasting my first Bash.

The Great American Bash extravaganzas started in 1985 with a huge event held outdoors at the Charlotte Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. The event continued uninterrupted through 1992 and then took a three-year hiatus before returning in 1995. I broadcasted my first Bash in the late ‘80s, and had several under my belt before I joined WWE in 1993. For those earning a living in NWA/WCW back in the day, The Great American Bash was their equivalent to the WWE’s SummerSlam.

I want to thank all of your for the many kind words and best wishes for the opening of our restaurant, J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q. I was pleasantly surprised that some who check out our blog actually visited us the first week and some even provided the world with “restaurant reviews” which, luckily for us, were favorable ones. Our business has exceeded our wildest expectations and for that we are sincerely thankful. I know our staff is working diligently to provide friendly and attentive service and as I constantly tell them a smile and a thank you goes a long with a lot of our guests. I always knew our food was going to be good because we did numerous, pre-opening tastings and felt like we were on to something. Utilizing some of my mama and granny’s recipes don’t hurt either. I have been spending a good deal of time at our place and hope to see many of you there soon. Last week we had up to a 45 minute wait for lunch and up to a hour wait for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, which was a shock to me. We realize that the opening buzz will subside at some point, but we remain optimistic that if we continue to serve great food and provide friendly, competent service, that our place can be successful for years to come. Tuesday, when I got back from Corpus Christi and Monday Night Raw, I went straight to “J.R.’s” and ended up having lunch with former Heisman Trophy winners Steve Owens and Billy Sims, both former Detroit Lions, which was a great time. Be sure and say hello if you see me there, but I usually make it around to all the tables at some point during lunch and dinner. (more…)

The Benoit Funeral..

For a week that has been so personally rewarding for the Ross family with the successful opening of J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurant on Wednesday, spending Saturday traveling from Norman to Daytona Beach, Florida and back, was a unique way to end the week. “Unique” probably isn’t the word I’m looking for.

How about “heartbreaking”? (more…)
