J.R.'s Column at WWE.com

Posted in:
Greetings from under the black, 200X Resistol hat from the WWE’s resident Oklahoman, who will be west coast bound this weekend and looking forward to being a part of The Great American Bash MANY years after broadcasting my first Bash. The Great American Bash extravaganzas started in 1985 with a huge event held outdoors at the Charlotte Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. The event continued uninterrupted through 1992 and then took a three-year hiatus before returning in 1995. I broadcasted my first Bash in the late ‘80s, and had several under my belt before I joined WWE in 1993. For those earning a living in NWA/WCW back in the day, The Great American Bash was their equivalent to the WWE’s SummerSlam. Read the rest of the story at WWE.com » Webmaster

just asking why has kane not had a good title reign he does alot for the wwe and i cant help but think that he hasnt had his prize for that alot of people over at yahoo think the same as me so could you maybe give me reason as to why he aint getting what he deserves please.
Hello JR, another great column that I always enjoy reading. I would really like to voice my opinion, like a fan already has in the feedback to this column, on the harsh treatment Kane gets from the WWE, as it is an opinion shared by many WWE fans. Kane is one of the most popular superstars in the WWE and one of the best big-men to ever grace the squared circle. Fans are always interested in his character and he is one of the best for being able to play both a face and a heel. He has been involved in some of my favourite feuds of all time. He is very good in the ring and on the mic. Yet for all his hard work and the love he has from the fans (whenever I hear rants about the treatment of superstars, fans rants about the treatment of Kane always seem to be the ones filled with the most passion), he has only ever been a world champion for one day thus far. There have been so many times when I thought he would finally be world champion again and have a proper run at the top. Everyone knows he deserves it. There have been so many windows of opportunity for him to become world champion, none more so than with the recent vacancy of the title and Kanes position as the number one contender. Yet, even with the all the injurys, the WWE decide to put the strap on The GReat Khali instead? The Great Khali is without a shadow of a doubt the worst world champion of all time, and yes, I am including David Arquette. This is the man who was pulled from Summerslam last year due to the WWE fearing putting him on live television and was relegated to ECW as the manager of Diavari. Not only did he win the title, but he unrealistically made a mockery of Batista and Kanes monster presences in their Great American Bash match. If a monster heel champion was needed on SmackDown! to replace Edge, than why not have a talented one that the fans care about and make Kane the champion? I really hope the WWE give Kane what he truly deserves soon... a lengthy run with a world title.
Now I really do have to say with all the injuries and other top talents gone. I think there should be one champion. I mean how many times are we going to see Batista vs Khali? what do you say
Also may I add, that I sadly come from Scotland, UK and can't come to your store and try out your BBQ sauce + meals..But I do have a friend who does live in oklahoma and have told her about it, she says she will go there and tell me what I am missing =P Laters :)
Hi JR? Hows are you? I will get to the point here. I will just say that I have said a prayer for you and the entire WWE roster for the death of Chris Benoit. No matter what horrible stuff he may have done, he was still the best in the business I'd say and will always be remembered. Can you tell me how Mark Calaway and Shawn Michaels feels about this tragic event? Just curious. Take care and all the best. D ^^;
J.R., you are without a doubt the best wrestling annoucer ever, and I am a big fan of yours. But, I was ashamed to hear you ( a man of more wrestling knowledge and history than just about anyone) say that John Cena vs. Bobby Lashley was one of the greatest matches of the year. Come on, you really don't think Jeff Hardy (who is the most popular guy on Raw, just listen to the pop he got on Raw last night) or Matt and Jeff, or Shelton Benjamin have had better matches than Cena and Lashley. You also said shame on anyone who didn't get the PPV. Well I say shame on the WWE for not giving me enough on the card to make someone with a middle class income like me want to buy a PPV that is priced so outrageously high. TNA's PPV's are a much better bargain, and more entertaining. I get on rants like this because I care so deeply about my wrestling and the poor state that it is currently in. To finish off, I would like to know why Jeff and Matt Hardy, who I clearly see every week are both the most popular guys on there respective brands, do not get the push they deserve. IC and US title is not good enough. And even if they can't cut good promos, neither can Lashley or Batista, and Cena's promos sound to over the top and fake. Like I said, I rant like this because I have more passion for this business in one finger than most of those sombies in the crowd have in their whole body. Give the Hardy's a chance and stop insulting me with John Cena's long over due title reign. He is good, but he is not Hulk Hogan or Steve Austin or the Rock, so stop trying WWE. That's a real diehard, longtime fans opinion.
Hey Mr. Ross, I am a fan of wrestling and of WWE from Trinidad and Tobago. I am also a huge fan of Kane and i would like to know why it is that WWE has continued under-utilizing his talent. I was under the assumption that he was greatly respected in the business. After sending emails post wretlemania 23 and then the Great American Bash, I must say that I am fed up and I'm turning to you to get some sort of explanation.
Was there a reason why The Great American Bash didn't take place during 1993 and 1994? I'm curious to know why the Bash didn't take place during those years. I'm familiar with the early years of the Bash, while the years 2001-2003 are easier to explain, since it was the first few years after WCW was absorbed by the WWE.
mr. ross, what do you think of the current crusierweight division on Smackdown? do you believe it deserves to be more in-depth as far as more talent? it's one of my favorite aspects of friday night smackdown, i guess i'd just like to see more talent and new characters. also, you may add glen beck to the list of crazy infotainment people on cable. keep in mind, those pundits like Nancy "i know what you did last summer" Grace really are not seen as much as they would like to believe. their ratings are not what they would like so they spew whatever sensational hate they can muster to gain the viewership of anyone sick enough to be duped. i believe glen beck is constantly coming down on the latino population. say what you will about the latino population but legal or not? they are in attendance at WWE shows a lot.
Thanks for your column. Had a couple of questions; I was wondering what the possibility of Triple H returning to WWE at the Raw show from MSG on August 13th? I know he returned to MSG in January 2002 from his previous injury and since MSG is know for classic moments (like you getting a pinfall victory over The Game!!!) I thought he may return on that night. I was also wondering if the rent for MSG has gone up so high that that is the reason WWE only runs there about once a year. I know a few year ago it seemed WWE ran MSG about 3-4 times a year. Thanks.
Colin Cowherd is a fool. Glenn Beck feigned deception over complete ignorance. These people need to go to College and take Wrestling 101, and listen to Lanny Poffo. Maybe they can write their comments on frisbees!
Hey, JR. I'd like to ask you your opinion on Skittles, if you don't mind. Thanks!
Hi JR. Congrats on the BBQ place, looks like its going very well. Me and some of my wrestling buddies think it would be worth a trip from Chicago to Oklahoma to try your restaurant. Spend a few days in Oklahoma I think would be fun, I've never been to that state. I was wondering about the new Stone Cold DVD when thats coming out? Do you know what will be on it, matches all throughout his career? I'd love to see his days in ECW and WCW what led him to be the Rattlesnake. Just curious if you know. Keep up the good work, hopefully I'll make a visit to JR's Family Bar BQ.
STONE COLD! BY GOD STUNNER! MUDHOLE! SCALDED DOG! MUDHOLE! ROLD GOLD! MUDHOLE! MUDHOLE! IN ALL MY 254 YEARS OF ANNOUNCING WRASSLIN' I AIN'T EVER SEEN SOMEBODY WALK THROUGH HELLFIRE AND BRIMSTONE QUITE LIKE THE BIG RED MACHINE!
I have a question about your new 'bar-b-q pit' as I like to call them. I love places like that, with the food, the scenary, everything. Now my question, I am so curious as to how your joint is different than other 'eateries'. If I were to drive from my hometown of Wisconsin all the way to visit you for lunch one day, what would you do?
Hello, Jim Ross! I wanted to ask your opinion about Glenn Beck calling wrestling fans "losers who watch wrestling while eating cheetos and wearing just our underwear" and ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd has called us "booger eaters".
