J.R.'s Superstar of the Week - Beth Phoenix (from WWE.com)

Posted in:
Greetings from under the 200X, black Resistol hat from soggy Oklahoma where the barbecue at J.R.’s is smoking, pigskins are in the air, and the Biggest Party of the Summer, SummerSlam, is just days away. It was an interesting trip to North Carolina last week for yours truly. On the way to Fayetteville from Raleigh, my rental car overheated just a few minutes after the air conditioning went limber tail on me – on a day where temperatures were more than 100 degrees. So, about 30 miles east of the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, I had to turn around and go back to the rental car place at the airport. When I got there, I had to get back in a nice, long rental car line and trade my rental car in for another one – one with AC and no check engine light on. From there, I restarted my 80-mile or so journey back to Fayetteville. Because I was running late, I missed getting to have lunch at the famous BBQ Shack in Fayetteville, which came highly recommended by native North Carolinian, current Oklahoma University offensive coordinator and my neighbor, Kevin Wilson. I withstood the rental car woes OK, but missing my visit to Fayetteville, North Carolina’s famous BBQ Shack just wasn’t fair. Read the rest of the story at WWE.com » Webmaster

Jesse i really think the same thing, summerslam wasn't the biggest party of the summer even the great american bash was better than summerslam!!! i've just liked the return of triple h
Hey JR! how can i convince my mom to let me order WWE 24/7?? Recently, Samoa Joe has expressed that he would be willing to accept an "entry level" WWE contract rather than stay with TNA. Do you know if he has contacted the WWE or the WWE is planning to contact him?
I hope Cena keeps the belt until Wrestlemania 24 and faces Undertaker in the main event. Takers winning streak on the line against Cena's wwe title. The tension would be unbelievable. After numerous near falls where it looks like takers streak is over..........some how he finds the strengh to hit the tombstone and end Cena's amazing run. Taker poses with the title under the stars.... *end wrestlemania*
Summer Slam was the worst pay per view I've ever seen. It completely sucked. When the fans pay their hard earned money to watch a major WWE event, we expect to see at least one title change hands. The match between Batista and the so-called "Great" Khali was one of the worst heavyweight championship matches ever. NO match should ever end by a disqualification, especially after the hype that was built around this match. The women's battle royal was a complete waste of time 'cause no one cares about the Women's title. I would rather have seen the tag titles on the line. I can't wait for the Undertaker and Edge to return to Smackdown because Khali and Batista are as one-dimensional as they come.
Hi J.R. Hope things are good with you. While watching the powerful familes of wrestling dvd i'm wondering if the WWE is planning on possibly releasing a complete anthology of some WCW events like Starrcade or the Great American bash?
Hi JR. Can you give us an update on Gregory Helms? Would be very great to hear how he is doing. Greetungs from Germany.
Hi JR. I just got home from raw and i thought the show was pretty good. The Triple H vs Randy Orton dark match at the end was a nice ending to the night. After the show a couple of us went to the Kowloon restaurant in Saugus where there are always superstars there after the show. The stars there tonight were both Highlanders, Snitsky, Mike Chioda and Randy Orton and his girlfriend. The area where they ate was closed off but after a wile Randy Orton came out and invited the fans outside into the parking lot for autos and pictures. Randy was very good with the fans. He signed for everyone there and took pictures for a while. I actually had my ticket stub signed. I have read negative things about Randy in the past but I have to say he went above and beyond to take care of the fans who came out to see him. He was very well received by the crowd. I also saw Highlander Robbie signing and taking photos with the fans as well as Mike Chioda. All in all it was a very good raw. Getting to meet Randy Orton was a nice ending to the night because he is one of my favorite superstars. A+ to the wwe tonight. Thanks, Dennis
I feel so sorry for Joey Styles and Tazz. They sat there bored off their butts for all they had to call was one match. I hope the WWE will utilize them more and have more ECW matchs. They have a good feud going between Big Daddy V and the Boogeyman. Why couldn't WWE writers have that match part of summerslam and give more PPV work to Joey and Tazz. I am now starting to believe that the WWE writers are hating on ECW orginals even more.
Hi J.R. I thought the Cena and Orton match at summerslam was one of the best matches of the year. I really enjoyed it even though I was dissapointed with the outcome. I sure hope Orton gets a rematch at Unforgiven and wins. He would make such a great champion as John Cena is just getting so boring...its the same thing everytime with him "overcoming the odds." I rather see Orton have a good heel title reign and then have him go against HHH or Kennedy. By the way, what was up with Umaga attacking Jeff Hardy? I understand turning Umaga heel again was the right thing, but there was no sense in him attacking Jeff...lol , but raw was good tonight too. I like where the Cena Orton story is going..now its very personal. Should be fun to watch.
Hey good ol J.R. Hope everything is well. Quick question is there any reason why there isnt a lot of specialty matches like cage, hardcore, ladder, table matches anymore? I mean once in awhile is good but I rarely see any of them anymore. Thanks, Ryan
Hi JR, I just read on the wrestling blogs how Cena reacted to a fan after SummerSlam who held a sign stating that the place would riot if Cena won. First let me say that I am not the biggest fan of the Cena character. I think it was a heel character turned babyface too soon and too long. That being said, I have to respect Cena for how he treated the fan. He did not rip up the sign. He returned it back to the fan, respected him for sticking to his favorite wrestler and shook the fan's hand. That takes a lot of class to do that. No matter what I think of the Cena character, in my book, Cena has a lot of character. I see why now your organization has kept him as champ for as long as you have. It is rare to have such a class act in an organization especially one that can perform as consistently as he has. This act alone as shown me that I pegged Cena unjustly and I have a new found respect for him. And there will likely be a part of me routing for him tonight on RAW. - Christopher
Hi JR, hope your well. I know your going to be diplomtic here and wouldnt expect you to be anything else, but John Cena with the title is now boring!!! I mean who ever he faces doesnt beat him and its getting to the point i personally no longer watch, as i no what will happen. I do check the results on wwe.com but its now a turn off. Cena is talented but come on its now beyond a joke! Also where can i get the ratings of raw and smackdown for the lst year? Im interested in seein if there has been a downfall.
Hi JR!! First I want to say that I'm so happy that you picked a diva as the Superstar of the Week- and Beth Phoenix is the diva that you picked! She's amazing. You don't realy pick divas often for Superstar of the Week, so it was really nice to see it today. Second of all, I watched SummerSlam yesterday (it was very good) and I have to say I was so shocked to hear all the boos toward John Cena. I've been raised in New Jersey, and am a proud New Jerseyian (I think that's the word for it), but seeing all those people chant stuff like "Cena must die" made me ashamed of being from New Jersey. I wanted to ask what was your perspective of SummerSlam, the crowd, and New Jersey as a whole? Thanks again Mr. Ross. Dee
JR do you have any info on the return of Edge. I truly believe the Summer Slam was a good PPV but i don't think I'll be spending another $40.00 just to watch another predictable ending. It has been so wack since last september, you might has well give him red knee pads, yellow trunks, and yellow boots because i guess WWE think CENA is Hulk Hogan. No matter how much we boo him you give him wins, and i have SEEN ENOUGH !
JR, I have a question for you, why doesn't Raw ever come to military bases in the states? I have been in Camp Lejeune since 96, and I have seen I believe once or twice where you guys go to Army bases, but I have yet to see a house show or live emanate from a Marine Corps Base. I would love to see Raw coming to you live from Camp Lejeune NC. I know you aren't in that ring of the underworld anymore, but maybe you guys kicked it around in the past?
Did you ever come through Morristown TN in your Smokey Mountain Wrestling days and do you have any memories of Morristown
Summerslam was fantastic I thought, it was easily the best paperview this year. Is it me or was Matches more "high impact" then they usually are? Oh and it's offical, I do not like the internet wrestling critics, they saw Summerslam as a bust. Seriously if that didn't entertain you, find a new outlit for entertainment.
Is there any chance of Goldberg returning and spearing the hell outta Cena ?
HEY JR, DO ME A FAVOR AND TELL THE HIGHER UPS OR THE WRITERS FOR THE RAW STORY LINES TO STOP LETTING JOHN CENA WIN..TELL THEM TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT THAT FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS CENA'S GONNA WIN EVERY TITLE DEFENSE AND I'LL STAY WATCHING RAW AGAIN WHEN HE FINALLY LOSES WHAT LOOKS LIKE TO BE AN EVENTUAL 5 YEAR TITLE REIGN....THANKS
Hey JR, Thank you and all at WWE who do so much for all of us. I've been a loyal fan for many years and I know the WWE has had its ups and downs. Over the past few months, I feel there's been one down part overall - John Cena. I just got done watching Summerslam. The PPV was not bad at all and Rey and Chavo definitely stole the show. What blows my mind though is how unstoppable John Cena has become. I mean come on, he's steamrolled through the entire roster now after Orton. I personally think it's a little ridiculous how he went through Khali twice, once by submission. And Lashley? Give me a break! Triple H put Cena over too, but that's the kind of guy that HHH is. I don't know, I find it hard to believe that noone can beat him, or you have to steal one like Edge in order to beat him. I kind of get the feeling we're watching the Hulk Hogan of this generation just going through every wrestler you put in front of him. It's just gotten way too predictable for Cena's matches. I notice too how the crowd is very split over the past few months. Heck, after the match you didn't even see crowd reaction (maybe everyone split by then?). Is a heel turn on the way? Well I do understand legitimizing the title and champion, I would just like to see a little more frequent title changes is all, you know, to make him mortal again. But hey, enough griping :) Like I said - I was, am and always will be a huge fan. Thank you (and all of WWE) for the incredible work you do for the fans and I still look forward to watching you and the King tear it up every Monday! Chris
Just watched cena beat orton all i gotta say is cena bein champion is really making me dislike the wwe product his reign is so predictable and boring he beats everyone no matter who they are and along with his lame gimmick and terrible wrestling skills he is constantly pushed. Also i just like to say i hate it when every video package ends with cena it just makes me laugh at how pethetic it is. i dont like cena but i would like him more if he was not constatly shoved down our throats as being the champ in past two years he has been champion for nearly all of it yet when he lost it ratings went up (edge) or it seemed special (RVD) once again cena being champ for so long is making me bored with the product. Orton was perfect choice just imagin how different raw would have been with orton champion i would have defo watched it now raw will have cena champion and will have the seen it all b4 flavour.
Hey J. R., Can you please explain why did you state on the WWE's "AWA DVD" about how UWF wrestling did take part in that "joke" Super Clash III PPV Dec. 13 1988? UWF was no more and you were working for the NWA for over a year at that time! I really want to hear what you have to say about this! Ben
Hi JR..... I was just wondering if you might know if The Undertaker is planning to retire? I have heard some rumours about that he might be. I personally hope that that wouldn´t be the case because SmackDown wouldnt be the same. Also some wrestling news sites are writing about Ric Flair retiring after Wrestlemania 24!
Hello JR the resturant looks fantasic and i would like 2 visit when i finally get 2 america next year. The summerslam card looks nicely built up but there seems to be a lot of underused talent not even on there, how do u feel on the big names getting big pushes and not young talents just becuase they are classed as "crusierweights" or "jobbers" becuase they have been around for a long time ? And when will kane get the push he deserves towards the title and is it true thatyou will be splitting up with jerry jawler on commentry? And howdo u feel about randy orton getting a push towards the title even after he trashed a hotel room causing lots of damage, and not even getting suspended.
JR- Thank you for making the appearance in Union, NJ. It was a pleasure to meet you and speak with you. You are a very classy gentleman. Thank you for all that you do in the WWE, and all that you have done in the past. God Bless. ~ Katie
Hey JR: I was wondering if you knew whether Undertaker had any plans to write an autobiography. Being a veteran and the true wrestling legend that he is, I'm sure he has loads of interesting stories and anecdotes to share.
Hi J.R. I've always wondered, what do you and Jerry do during commercial breaks? Also, do you ever have trouble with the fans behind you?
Hey J.R. hope things are well across the pond. The weather has been awful thus far in the UK so it's been hard trying to get into the spirit of summer. Anyways my query is about a rumour involving Samoa Joe finishing up working with TNA and has "apprently" expressed interest in working for the WWE. Well I know this rumour is probably false as you know yourself how the wrastlin' sites are, but what I want to know is if it was down to you which brand would you have Joe on and what fueds would you like to see him in. Personally a Samoa Joe/Undertaker bout really appeals to me. Cheers, Chris
jr do you like doing outdoor shows like summerslam 92 & wm9(i was there) & to some dergee wm19? i mean i always think for some reason the show seems to be bigger and better in my view.what are your thougths?
DO you think Mr. Kennedy will turn face soon? I truly believe he is the next Rock and turning him face would be awesome. I love this guy and becasue of his charisma and mic skills a lot of other people do too. We've see enough of Cena. I want Kennedy as Champ. Please tell Vince to turn him face.
what did you think of the stone cold - the rock fued? thanks for answering.
How many times do they have to screw up Kane's keyfabe storyline. I thought paul bearer was he father.
Dear JR been curious to know how Jerry is doing after that assualt by Booker and also curious to weather we will see HBK back on Raw after HHH comes back hope you are well I am a huge Fan we even met once in person several years ago but I was just a little girl
Hey JR, I too am looking foward to the return of 'The Game' at SummerSlam. I was reading a Ric Flair interview at SilverVision.co.uk and he was asked a question about "Heels/Faces" but he reacted angrily. He said that he hates people who use these words as they are strictly for people 'inside' the business. He said he has no respect for these so-called fans. I was wondering, what do you think of fans using insider words such as "heels, faces"? Do you take offence? Thanks (Also I hope King is at SummerSlam as RAW is not the same without you two).
Hey J.R i've just got back from vacation on a Spanish island, i'm sure the weather was slightly better then it has been in Oklahoma. Having watched the build up to Summerslam i cant help but think how much Randy Orton has established himself as an excellent heel, although he does have quite a few fans, myself included. Everyone knows he's talented enough to be champ and he might just do that on Sunday but the one thing that hinders him are his personal issues. Would you say that he seems to have taken a step to becoming more of a professional outside the ring and not getting into so much trouble?
JR, I agree with you about Beth, and I think she has a bright future ahead of her. The newest generation of ladies wrestlers are starting to come into their own now. I know you hate questions about things in the WWE you have no control over, but after searching for some sort of feedback at wwe.com and failing, I figured it couldn't hurt to try. I am a big fan of the WWE DVD releases, but there is one thing I think is definitly missing. DVD's of Raw and Smackdown, and even of shows like Heat, Velocity and the like. I'd love to see them in large box sets, containing a half year or a year's worth of the program. I realize it'd be a massive undertaking though, as Raw extends back over ten years now, but DVD's of television seasons are becoming more and more popular, and if done right I think it would be a huge hit. Do you know of anything like this potentially in the works? Thanks for the fantastic site, and I wish you continued luck with your new restaurant.
Hi JR Greetings from Mississippi. Now I know how you feel about some of the wrestling websites out there and I know I shouldn't always believe what I read, but I read something about the possibility of TAZ being brought to RAW. Is this true? I personally like you and the King together; I just can't see breaking you guys up. When i think RAW I think good ol JR and the King I wouldn't have it any other way. Just my opinion would love to know your thoughts on this. If you'd rather not comment I completly understand. Thanks for taking the time to read this as well as all the hard work you do for the WWE, and of course your restaurant I'm starting to wonder when you have time to sleep!!! :) Congrats on all the success you've had with JR's Family BBQ can't wait to see the franchises popping up all over the nation.
Hi Mr Ross, What are the chances of a) Demolition (Bill Eadie & Barry Darsow) being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and b) WWE releasing a Demolition DVD?
JR do you have any idea what Marcus Cor Von's family problem is? He's been gone a while, and I've heard rumors that he has some family problems to deal with, considering how long it's been it sounds quite serious.
Hey JR, I just finished reading your Superstar of the Week column on wwe.com and I thought it was very good. The amount of work you manage to keep up with is inspirational. Whenever I feel overwhelmed with responsibilities, I think of the schedule that all the WWE employees keep up with and think to myself, "Man, I've got it easy!" I just hope that you don't have too many items on your "to-do" list. If you feel that things are piling up to quick, take a vacation and recharge your batteries. Your fans will understand.
Hi...I wanted to say nice blog...but is the part true where it says that Vince McMahon is living in New York at Four Seasons Hotel...
Hey J.R., I love reading your blogs, but I never left a comment yet! So today I decided I finally would leave one! :P . I have two questions for you... Have you ever been to my hometown of St.John's, Newfoundland? The oldest city in North America? The WWE has been here for a houseshow this past May (first time since Jan. 04). Anyways, I was wondering when Monday Night Raw may roll into St.John's for the first time? I would LOVE it if you guys came here for an actual Live show and not a houseshow. But don't get me wrong, houseshows are pretty exciting as well! On to my other question.. if you could pick one superstar from Smackdown and one from ECW, but you had to ship two Raw stars away to each brand, who would they be and why? Thanks, Warren
Hey J.R., I'm from North Carolina, about an hour from RDU. Look, if you want some of the best BBQ in the state, head west torwards Lexington, NC. Place called Lexington BBQ, still uses wood fired grills. Some great BBQ! And if you're in VA, I suggest Tater Bug's BBQ in Danville. He's won a few state cooking championships, and uses wood for his meat as well. I suggest his briscuit, its my favorite. I haven't had the chance to visit your place, but I hope I can, you're got the knack for BBQ and wrestling both! Keep up the good work!
