Bar-B-Qed Fan Feedback…The Special of the day at J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q!

Filed under: Bar-B-Q, Personal, Restaurant, Wrestling — on

We’re burning daylight Pilgrim so let’s allow business to pick up!

Locky- I have never been to the Land Down Under, but look forward to the day that the WWE does a PPV or a Raw from Australia, which I see happening some day.

Rob- HHH vs. The Rock had great chemistry and the two had some exceptional bouts over the years. Both were up and coming, both were students of the game, and both were hungry to establish themselves as main event players in the WWE, so the timing of their rivalry was on the money. These two men were two of my finest signees while I was the head of talent relations for the WWE. A few more fortunate hires like this would “cure what ails us” in today’s marketplace. (more…)

The 3rd-ranked Sooners finally leave the state of Oklahoma this weekend to begin defense of their Big 12 Football Championship.

This week, with all the hype surrounding a number of events having little or nothing to do with OU football, including OSU Coach Mike Gundy’s rant, Michael Vick testing positive for marijuana, a MLB umpire getting suspended, the Seattle Sonics looking for a home and an attorney, and the future of Barry Bonds’ record breaking home run ball being discussed by people with too much money and time on their hands, the Sooners begin conference play this Saturday in Boulder in a game that some of my east coast friends have describe as a “trap game”.

J.R.’s Superstars of the Week - Shelton Benjamin & Beth Phoenix (from WWE.com)

Greetings from under the 200X, black Resistol hat from your resident Okie, who smells the “Q” in Norman, Okla., while preparing to hit the road this week to visit the WWE TV Studios and then on to Boulder, Colo., for the Oklahoma-Colorado college football game this Saturday on Fox Sports Net. Then it will be a change of clothes and perhaps a nap before flying to Cleveland for next Monday’s Raw, which is shaping up to be an unpredictable and combustive night on USA Network. Whew!

This week’s panel of wrestling experts, who normally meet in a tavern outside the city limits of Parts Unknown to make the selection of Raw Superstar of the Week, have spoken. This week’s panel consisting of Dandy Jack Donovan and Verne Bottoms, The Elephant Boy and The Fabulous Moolah, The Missing Link and Dark Journey, Jimmy Garvin and Precious, Chris Adams and Sunshine, and the Bodydonnas and Sunny have selected the dynamic duo … the powerful pair (wouldn’t their children be beautiful?) of Shelton “The Natural” Benjamin and the Glamazon, Beth Phoenix, as this week’s Raw Superstars of the Week.

Life In The Bar-B-Q Fast Lane.. Sooner Football.. Steve Austin.. Legends Roundtable.. Autographed Cookbooks Selling Like “Q”.. J.R. to OU-Colorado Game.. Your Feedback..

“With miles to go before I sleep” seems applicable for yours truly at the present time as my time management skills are being sternly tested.

Last Friday I drove over to Tulsa from Norman to watch the OU-TU college football game from the OU sideline, which was broadcast on ESPN2 and saw the Sooners roll over the Golden Hurricane 62-21. Two of the OU coaches road back to Norman with me after the game, which made for some good “football talk”.

Then Saturday, Stone Cold rolled into OKC and Norman as we attended the Oklahoma State Fair’s Monster Truck Show, which sold out largely thanks to Austin’s popularity. Steve and I signed approximately 1300 autographs for fans in 2 1/2 hours, prior to the event. Steve had been running hard promoting the DVD release of “The Condemned” which is now on store shelves and is outselling all new DVD releases. Nonetheless we stayed up until about 4 a.m. sitting out in the Ross’ backyard “shooting the breeze” and watching a little college football….and perhaps enjoying a social cocktail.

Sunday, Steve joined my wife and me at J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q for lunch, that Stone Cold rated as “an absolute A+” which made the Mrs. and me both happy. Steve doesn’t pass out empty compliments, even to his friends, and has always been a guy that is going to damn sure be honest with his feedback or when answering a question. Our food and service stood up to a stern test with the Texas Rattlesnake with Steve trying a wide variety of items on our menu to get the feel of our place. (more…)

Mega Powers.. Swanton Mania.. Plus Sized Divas.. The Eagles Down Under.. Hulk Veto???.. Heyman is Alive and Well.. Sooners in Thick of National Title Hunt.. “Q” Biz is Great!

Feedback Time:

I was asked if I preferred the name “Mega Powers” vs. The Monster Maniacs when referring to Hogan and Savage and I personally like the “Mega Powers” the better. Original material is generally better than a re-hash or a repackaged persona.

Warren- I was pleasantly surprised when Jeff Hardy’s Swanton at WM16 won the fan poll on WWE.com. It was one helluva move and a giant risk that Jeff took and obviously today’s fans who voted, loved it. If Jeff were in a position to talk more on TV, with his charisma and in ring abilities, there is no telling how big a star Jeff might become.

Jamie in the UK- Do I feel that TNA starting a women’s division will affect the WWE Divas? Uh, no Jamie I don’t. (more…)

Just to put things in perspective before we start talking about Sooner Football and the Tulsa game Friday night, I would like to suggest that you check out James Gandolfini’s (aka Tony Soprano) HBO Special entitled “Alive Day” which is one of the most compelling and poignant television programs I have seen in years.

Gandolfini interviews 10 soldiers who have returned from Iraq with a variety of physical and mental issues. I think it is a good thing that we are reminded from time to time of the amazing sacrifices our military makes for all of us.

We will now store the “soap box” and continue with our regularly scheduled programming…Oklahoma Sooners Football!

J.R.’s Superstar of the Week - Triple H (from WWE.com)

Greetings from under the black, 200X Resistol hat from the soon-to-be barbecue capitol of Oklahoma, Norman, where “Stone Cold” Steve Austin will be passing through this week while making an autograph appearance at the Oklahoma State Fair Monster Truck Show Saturday night.

Yours truly had a nice weekend in Tennessee, first with a stop Sunday in Memphis for Unforgiven, and then driving up to Nashville for Monday Night Raw and then back to Memphis for the rare, “non-stop” flight back to Oklahoma City Tuesday morning. I wanted to stop at Loretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch, but Jerry “The King” Lawler and I stopped for a Shoney’s Buffet instead. Nothing wrong with the “pitch ‘till you win” all one can eat buffets, which harkens back to the old days when money was really scarce in the business, especially for a young referee. Many of us ate one nice meal a day, usually a buffet, and were glad to get it.

Bar-B-Q.. Football.. Wrestling.. Your Feedback.. More..

It’s always good to arrive safely at home here in Norman, Oklahoma but I sure enjoyed my two full days in Tennessee, starting with Unforgiven in Memphis, Sunday, and then on to Nashville on Monday for Raw, where the King and I made the drive up and back, about 400 miles, which allowed me to actually take one flight home from work this week. I felt like I got my hand raised with not having to take multiple flights to and from work this particular week. Small things make veteran travelers happy, especially when one is on an airplane about 50 weeks or so each year.

My Sooners are rolling and I plan on traveling over to Tulsa this Friday night to see OU play the Golden Hurricane on ESPN2 on a rare Friday night game. The young and talented Sooners are playing very well and have such a strong work ethic and competitive environment at practice that I do not expect any sort of lethargy against a Tulsa team dotted with Oklahoma high school kids who have most definitely looked forward to this game, since they signed their letters of intent. Shooting the breeze from a BBQ lovin’ Sooner fan while still smiling over a nice win against “The U”, and hoping the Sooners can beat Utah State into submission early Saturday afternoon to give the key players some R&R for what will be a shortened week to prepare for the trip down the turnpike for the Friday September 21 game at Tulsa.

Yours truly had the opportunity to be on the Sooner sideline Saturday, and here are a few random observations:

J.R.’s Superstar of the Week - Hornswoggle (from WWE.com)

Greetings from under the black, 200X Resistol hat from Norman, Okla., home of J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurant, where a large group of our fans will watch WWE Unforgiven this Sunday night on pay-per-view.

After meeting at their usual watering hole on the outskirts of Parts Unknown, our royal panel this week consisting of Jerry “The King” Lawler, King Kong Bundy, Angelo “King Kong” Mosca, “The King of Wrestling” Harley Race, Sonny King, Rex King, Moondog King, The King of Kings, the Sacramento Kings, the Kings of Comedy, and King Sgt. Preston of the Yukon’s trusty husky, this week’s Raw Superstar of the Week was a unanimous and easy choice. This week’s winner of delicious J.R.’s barbecue products from www.jrsbarbq.com is … Hornswoggle McMahon!
