Greetings from under the black, 200X Resistol hat from Norman, Okla., home of J.R.'s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurant, where a large group of our fans will watch WWE Unforgiven this Sunday night on pay-per-view. After meeting at their usual watering hole on the outskirts of Parts Unknown, our royal panel this week consisting of Jerry “The King” Lawler, King Kong Bundy, Angelo “King Kong” Mosca, “The King of Wrestling” Harley Race, Sonny King, Rex King, Moondog King, The King of Kings, the Sacramento Kings, the Kings of Comedy, and King Sgt. Preston of the Yukon’s trusty husky, this week’s Raw Superstar of the Week was a unanimous and easy choice. Batista is defending the world heavyweight title against Khali in the Punjabi Prison Match at No Mercy. Instead of escape being the only way to win, do you think it would be more interesting to see if it was an i-quit Punjabi Prison Match? Also this year we have seen two last man stand matches on pay per view, Umaga/Cena and Taker/Batista. There has been no hell in the cell matches this year. Do you think it would be more interesting to see Cena and Orton in a hell in the cell i-quit match at no mercy for the WWE Title instead of the last man standing match?
Hey JR. So, I watched WWE Unforgiven, and it was a so-so PPV...but thats not the point of this little question... During the Women's Championship match between Candice Michelle and Beth Pheonix, I believe it was Jerry "The King" Lawler, (of all people) to ask if you've ever remembered a diva as dominant, and physical as Beth Pheonix, and you said no. Now I've been watching for a number of years, I remember the old days, and one diva comes to mind when I think dominant. Chyna She was an absolutely amazing diva, and Beth used the military press, just like chyna did against Victoria (when she was in RTC) to win the (at the time) WWF Championship. Another Diva that comes to mind is Jazz...Was she ever impressive in her bouts against diva's like Trish Stratus. I look at Beth Pheonix and I see a mix of Chyna and Jazz. I was shocked that neither you or The King brought those two up... Just thought I'd share that with you. Thank JR, and I'll se you on Monday Night Raw -Tom
Hey J.R., I saw in your last blog that you said people will be able to watch Unforgiven at J.R.'s BBQ. Will the restaurant show every PPV free of charge? I would love to go there, i havent had a chance to yet but dinner and a PPV could get me off my butt.
Jim, Just wondering about your thoughts if Barry Windham was in shape, if another Incarnation of the Horseman would do well. Possibly with the Additions of say Kennedy and William Regal(Whom I find underrated and fantastic) to the roster.
JR, if you were a playable character on Smackdown vs Raw 08 what would you want your signature and finishing move or moves to be? I wish your Sooners luck this weekend, my MU Tigers play their first home game this weekend. Have a good one. - Curtis
Hi JR, I wish you and everyone at the 'E nothing but the best during this rough time. I've been a faithful viewer for over 20 years now and don't plan to tap out any time soon. That being said, don't you think WWE should take at least part of the blame for what's going on? I mean, what kind of message do you think it sends when the company puts such an enormous amount of promotion behind guys like Batista and Bobby Lashley? They've both got superhuman physiques, but they have about as much charisma as a paper cup. The undecorated kind. Granted, I realize that nobody would watch a show featuring a bunch of average-sized guys with beer guts rolling around in the ring, but at the same time, why should you need to look like a He-Man action figure to reach the upper echelon? All I'm saying is that I think that the guys feel pressured to push their physiques farther than their bodies are naturally designed to go in order for WWE to really give them a shot. Just having a job is not enough. I imagine that if you're on the road 300 days a year putting your body through torture night after night, you need to feel like you have some upward mobility in your career. That shouldn't come down to the size of your arms and pecs. Guys need to feel like they can be appreciated by the company for their ability to entertain, their ring work and their charisma AS WELL AS their physiques. Things really needs to change or else complying with the WWE wellness program will force the company to let some very talented superstars go.
