J.R.'s Family Bar-B-Q

Bar-B-Qed Fan Feedback…The Special of the day at J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q!

We’re burning daylight Pilgrim so let’s allow business to pick up! Locky- I have never been to the Land Down Under, but look forward to the day that the WWE does a PPV or a Raw from Australia, which I see happening some day. Rob- HHH vs. The Rock had great chemistry and the two had some exceptional bouts over the years. Both were up and coming, both were students of the game, and both were hungry to establish themselves as main event players in the WWE, so the timing of their rivalry was on the money. These two men were two of my finest signees while I was the head of talent relations for the WWE. A few more fortunate hires like this would “cure what ails us” in today’s marketplace. Ogre- Do I think that TNA is following the Green Mile march of WCW? I hope not and haven’t heard of any financial issues within TNA. Time will tell and the key component for them to grow is probably going to be the growth of their PPV biz. In all due respect to TNA, I don’t perceive them as a huge threat to the WWE and that shouldn’t be TNA’s goal any way. When one focuses too much on the perceived competition then one’s eye is taken off the ball, which isn’t good. Johnny/UK- I can’t believe that it has been almost 10 years since Brian Pillman passed away. Wow. I vividly remember Vince McMahon and I flying to Cincy for Brian’s wake and viewing the body was one of the more challenging and emotional things I have ever had to do. It was exactly like attending the services of a family member. I do not know the WWE’s plans regarding commemorating Brian’s passing. Pat- I think essentially any wrestling TV show will heat up if a new face or an under utilized talent or two has the opportunity to “get hot” and get on a roll. The evolution of new stars…new personalities…and new rivalries usually helps any presentation. “New” is the key term here. Willie- I don’t think the WWE wanted to release Marcus Cor Von but his personal/family situation dictated such. Perhaps Marcus will get another opportunity some day with the WWE but taking care of his young family members is much more important than his wrestling career at this time. Hell, at any time. Clinton- Indeed Adrian Peterson is the real deal and the Vikings got themselves a real stud for the forseeable future. I have known AD since his senior year of high school and can only hope and pray that his physical running style will allow him some longevity in the NFL. The kid is a battering ram and likes it that way. The old school cages were very unpopular with the talent as I have explained before. Sam Smythe/USMC- Thanks for checking out our site and more importantly thanks for serving our country. I appreciate the update on actor Treat Williams, even though I am not familiar with him. Bill Myers- Would I replace Jerry Lawler with Tony Schiavone or Randy Savage as my broadcast partner? In all due respect to both Tony and Randy…Hell no! All this manure about King needing to be more edgy and more Ventura or JBL-like is such old news. If wrestling broadcasters have to be the Battling Bickersons all the time it seems to be somewhat predictable, but that’s just an opinion. Can J.R. and the King verbally spar more, sure, and perhaps we will in the future. I like what we currently do, but I can also see that our style might not be for everyone. I don’t know how many more years we will have to work together but I can’t think of any one I would rather be partners with than Jerry Lawler. Violet 99- I always heard that Hulk’s black eye at WM9 was a result of a jet ski accident and not a right hand from Randy Savage. Deyerowitz-Would a Hulk-Austin Cage match draw at a PPV? Of course it would, if built properly. But as Austin has said multiple times on radio interviews while promoting “The Condemned” DVD release, the match isn’t going to happen. Between Steve’s neck condition, the apparent clash of each wrestlers style and the simple matter that Austin doesn’t want to do the match and be less than 100% in his view, this match simply isn’t going to happen. Let’s unsaddle this broken down subject matter and put it out to pasture along with the worn out question on whether the Rock is coming back to the ring. He’s not. Next. Jackie- I don’t even know who in the hell Treat Williams is, much less if he is ever going to appear on WWE TV. Can Treat wrestle? Does he belong in the ring? Mighty Mercury- I must have missed or forgotten Nacho Libre on ECW TV. Bob Becker- Glad you enjoyed being in Milwaukee last Monday. The crowd had some really good moments with their enthusiasm and noise. That is a huge factor in the success of any TV show. Indeed Ron Simmons is a good man who knows where he came from and always has time for kids and fans in general. dondcook- The Ring of Honor will have a hard time replicating Mid South Wrestling for many reasons. The fact that Mid South ran a weekly territory with highly placed TV clearances on many network affiliates and the skill level of the talent roster will keep the two promotions separate. Nonetheless, I am one who hope ROH continues to do well and continues to develop solid wrestlers. Sean- As far as I know the December PPV Armageddon is still scheduled for Pittsburgh. Calling the Igloo and asking them might be an idea for you. Kim- If Hulk and Savage ever returned together to the WWE I am sure that the term MegaPowers could be used but the term that comes to my mind would be “It’s A Miracle!”. Catherine- Thanks for checking out “J.R.’s Cookbook”. We are selling the heck out of the autographed books here on our site and can ship them any where in the world. I think many fans who visit this site would enjoy the tales of the road, etc. I never knew Savage and Elizabeth well as I got to the WWE in 1993 and missed their amazing run. I always did enjoy their work nonetheless. Billy- I haven’t plugged into the “Suburban Commando” craze but I am inclined to check out the DVD now that you have peeked my curiosity. Was it really that good? Mike- If the current wrestling product causes you so much consternation, I can only suggest you continue to take the hiatus you are currently on until things get back to your liking. Being only 24 you have plenty of time, good Lord willing, to see many changes in the biz. Sean- Probably the last thing I would ever have on my list of things to do would be “wrestling promoter.” Mid South was a great experience but that era and style of wrestling is sadly gone forever to any significant level. Baby sitting under skilled, over paid wrestlers is a job I would not enjoy at this stage of my game, so promoting is not an option for me but selling the hell out of our Bar-B-Q is! My goal to become “The Baron of Bar-B-Q” marches on! Shaun- I do not follow the progress of the young wrestlers in the WWE developmental program closely enough to give you a viable answer to the question as to who is going to be the next big thing, so to speak. Even if I knew, it would not be fair to editorialize in this forum. People get their feelings hurt if they are omitted and I am not in the business of tearing talents down, even if done inadvertently. Bob- I have no idea when the “New Hart Foundation” will debut or on what show or if they will even be called the “New Hart Foundation.” However, and this is simply a guess, I would think Smackdown might be their new home, but that is absolute speculation. Just Andy- If I could call a match that I have never called before what would it be? Hard to pick just one. What about Austin vs. Brody? Taker vs. Andre? HHH vs. Race? HBK vs. Buddy Rogers? The Briscos, Jack and Jerry of course, Cowboy Bill Watts and Danny Hodge vs. The Funks, Dusty Rhodes and Dick Murdoch in my own personal version of the Red River Shootout. Rock vs. Flair? How’s that for starters? Those matches would be awesome in a video game, wouldn’t they? Thanks for checking in with us and for hopefully doing some shopping. Our signed cookbook offer is selling great and they make great gifts. It is not too early to start thinking of the holidays and our products and merchandise make super gift ideas. Keep your feedback coming and don’t be afraid to answer any or the questions posed to me that you see. I am just one man with one opinion and my opinion represents only J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q and is no better than yours. BOOMER SOONER! J.R.

I used to love the ECW from the 90's. The WWE version of ECW is a watered down wussy version of the original. I think it is a complete waste of television time. I think Vinny Mac and his band of merry idiots should scrap the show OR let it go back to being the real ECW. The wrestlers on the ECW roster are not much better than Indy wrestlers working for $50.00 a night. TNA wrestlers are so much better than the ECW wrestlers. What are your feelings on this matter ?

Dear Jr, As a long time fan, I have been noticing that people will be asking you about what your favorite music is. The Eagles are are fine if you like that country/rock thing from 1970's era. So, let me ask you, "Have you heard of a band called The Flaming Lips?" I saw them on a show from England that had Paul McCartney who is formerly from The Beatles. You are welcomed to pick up a copy of the Compact disc at your local store retailer. But, on a much more serious note, I would like to send my sincere best wishes to Teddy Long who I think is an outstanding general manager and I wish him a speedy recovery. Your fan, Daniel S.

I'm originally from Artesia, NM where OU QB recruit Landry Jones is finishing his senior year. What do you think about the future Sooner?

I'd love to take credit, even partial credit, for the new respect the Tag Team division seems to be getting, but I suspect it's only a coincidence. Still, I like the new take on the Highlander, and the open match on RAW tonight was electric. Now I'm curious to see if Smack Down is going to follow suit, or if the two shows are going to try different tactics. Grats to Lillian for her album by the way. Not sure if you ever chat with her, but I wish her all the best in her musical endevors.

Hi JR, I'll get straight to the point since I know your a busy man (No rest for Baron Von BBQ : ) ) 1- Any idea why WWE stopped the subscription service to the monthly OVW tapings? I really miss it. 2- I've been a fan of wrestling for over 20 years, been to tons of live shows, but something I've never seen and was wondering if you have ever seen it..is a wrestler sneezing durring a match, it amazes me that I've never seen it happen. Kind of a silly question but atleast I didn't ask when the Rock is coming back or why Savage isn't in the hall of fame : ) Take care, I hope to make it down to your BBQ place sooner than later. Be safe and thanks for all the great times, I look forward to many more. Steve

Hey, I am a big Jim Ross fan...I maybe even like him a little more than Treat Williams ;). Treatie baby...whoop Cena's derriere!!!!

Are you a fan of country superstar Randy Travis? I think he is awesome and should sing the National Anthem at the next Wrestlemania. I suggest you check out his new Christmas CD, "Songs of the Season."

Do you think Sunny will be heading back to WWE anytime soon?

Do you think there is any wrestler, past or present that deserves/deserved the WWE Championship but never got it?

Jim Ross - Do you know if Vince McMahon and Savage are currently on speaking terms? And would you like to see Randy Savage back...the Macho-est King of em all? Thanks bud!

Hey Jim Ross! Being a 36 year old housewife, it's always a pleasure to watch wrestling with my kids and husband every Monday. I am a huge fan of yours, and would like to get that cookbook very soon. I am stuck at kind of a crossroads though. My favorite wrestler is John Cena, and my favorite arse-whoopin actor is Treat Williams. My favorite DVDs are the John Cena Word Life and my husband's collection of Treat Williams flicks including the Substitutes, Extreme Limits, Deep End of the Ocean, and others. I would have to side with Treat if a face-to-face confrontation ever exploded between them, but that doesn't make Cena any less cuter! Have you had a chance to look into Treat's career, and do you think Arn Anderson would be able to make a viable comeback to the ring?

I am a big fan of rock n' roll music and the wrestlers who make it a big part of their character. In your opinion who was or is the best representative of rock n' roll and why? Y2J, The Headbangers, The Rockers, Rock n' Roll Express, Koko B. Ware, John Morrison, Wendy Richter, Triple H or someone who I failed to mention?

Hi JR-what do you think of RF video being able to sell Mid-South and UWF tapes? How did WWE miss out on this?

Hey J.R. I was just wondering if there is some kind of plan in the near future to publish and release an all Hall of Fame Video Game that only features WWE Hall of Famers. and by the way count me as a vote for Dynamite Kid Hall of Fame Induction this year or at the very least a British Bulldogs Tag Team Induction.

Any chance your BBQ sauce will be hitting the proverbial shelves anytime real soon? I'd love to see the big black hat in a local grocery store right next to the traditional sauces.

Hi JR, Given that he hasn't been present on the main stage for a number of years now, do you think that if WWE invested in bringing Randy Savage back, it'd be a money-spinner? He seems to have a strong fanbase, even just on your blog, and I'm always bemused to see how many comments you get regarding "Macho Man". Also, I've noticed that Drew Galloway was signed to a developmental deal with WWE, and has been posted to Florida Championship Wrestling. I remember Drew from a very small independent show in Scotland that Steve Corino appeared on, back in 2004, and it's great to see him getting a chance across the Atlantic. I'm just wondering if you're familiar with Drew? Do you think former ECW champ Corino could ever be a WWE superstar? The site's amazing, and your products are the icing on the cake. Take it easy, George

Hey JR., There's been some rumors that Shawn Michaels is reluctant to return to the WWE because he wants to spend more time with his family. Some are even saying that he might not come back at all. Do you know if that is true?

JR, Love the Jalapeno Honey Mustard sauce! Quick two part question for you: I was just wondering have you ever met ring legend from many years past Angelo Poffo and if so, were there any similarities between he and his more famous/infamous gravelly voiced, scare-crow haired son?

Hey JR. Your blog is always an entertaining read. I was wondering if you saw Coach Gundy's tirade over at OK State. Think he did the right thing for sticking up for his player, or did he come off looking like a fool?

JR, I am a big fan of watching WWE Wrestling but I also like watching TNA Wrestling too, my question is which TNA star you would like to see wrestle in WWE? My pick would be Samoa Joe.

Hi Jim, I was thinking about some matches which never happened that would have been great, and one that really stuck in my head was Hulk Hogan vs Rick Rude in 1990. I was thinking how great it might have been if Rude relieved the Warrior of the WWF title at the 91 Rumble instead of Sarge, and the WWF built to WMVII with a Hogan vs Rude WWF title cage main event. Would that have been something that you would have enjoyed? Thanks JR, Chris (UK)

JR, what are your memories of your time as part of 'RADIO WWF' with Gorillia Monsoon?

Who is the better “wrestling Christian”? Sting or Shawn Michaels? Or is it a “wrestling Christian’ of a different kind altogether?...like maybe Jay Reso?

JR, is Jimmy Snuka really LDS (Mormon)?

What did you think of Randy Savage’s portrayal of the character Bone Saw McGraw in the original SpiderMan blockbuster cinematic release circa 2002? Was it believable? Was that his real hair? Real beard even? Have Savage’s thespian skills surpassed those of other wrestler/actors like Roddy Piper or, dare I say, Terry Bollea? Are you as disappointed as I am that Bone Saw has yet to return in one of the franchise’s sequels to challenge Spidey to a rematch in the cage?

Hello, JR! Have you ever thought of the next music concert you could possibly go to next whenever one of your favourite bands are on tour? I'm asking you this because now's the time of year I go to loads of gigs for the winter holidays. I can't wait for them!

JR, what are your thoughts on the Savage/Flair main event from WrestleMania VIII?... I personally feel this one of the most underrated and seemingly underappreciated championship bouts in Mania history. The match had everything: two greats in their first meeting, world title on the line, the added emotion of the 'Elizabeth/Flair Affair' factor and a hot crowd at the Hoosier Dome that evening. I loved the quick finish, in which 'the face' cheated by pulling the tights to get one over on the dastardly heel who had taken every advantage possible... Maybe this wasn’t one of Flair’s best bouts, but it was a great and very emotional match and defiantly Flair’s best Mania bout and I’m surprised it doesn’t get more recognition as such. This is one of my all time favorite matches and I was just wondering what your thoughts are regarding why it is oft-forgotten when discussing both great Championship bouts and great Mania bouts.

Hey JR, a couple of things about Treat Williams. He has been around a long time but his big movie break was Prince of the City. He stared on TV in Everwood. From what I read he makes guest spots on Brothers and Sisters as a suiter of the Sally Field character. Now all that being said, what does Treat Williams have to do with the WWE and why would anyone think he would apear on any WWE show? Where did all the Treat Williams questions come from??????

The Sooners choked. your thoughts?

Hey JR. I work at a hotel in Milwaukee and met you recently. I must be honest with you, I meet a lot of celebs and famous people, but the WWE wrestlers are the nicest and coolest people around. Congrats on your restaurant and keep up the good work. I guess my question for you is this, do you like coming to Milwaukee? Do you know any famous Milwaukee or Wisconsin people? Do you have any good Milwaukee memories. Again, congrats and keep it up. I will be traveling from Milwaukee to your restaurant in December.

"Suburban Commando" is probably the only Hogan movie I think I would get. It was pretty good, certainly better than his first one, which I cant even remember the name of now. Also, the Undertaker has a bit part in the movie, which was probably one of the main reasons I went to see it in the first place. On another board I am a member of, one of the members had mentioned that she was visiting some relatives in Oklahoma, and I posted a comment that if they were near Norman they should check out your place. Turns out Norman was where she was going and that she would make it a point to visit. It was back during the week of 9/10-9/16. She is back from her trip and posted some pictures and one is a picture of her brother, whose 65th birthday they were celebrating, in front of your place. Here are her comments: "Day 3, the 14th. Dan's 65th Birthday! 2007 is also the 100th Anniversary of Oklahoma's Statehood, and Dan wanted to take me to the State Fair when he got home from work. I didn't see this happening since I can't walk for distance, but we had to get him out of the house, so we did the next best thing... rode around for a couple of hours so I could sit on my butt and keep him occupied showing me some points of interest. It was HIS idea to go to J.R.'s, knowing I love ribs. He got a kick out of it when I told him a board member had told me I had to go there. John, they were out of this world!" Apparently you have another satisified customer.

why are they blocking takers sarah tatoo??? are the rumors true that he;s going with michelle mccool? they were spotted in palatka fl,which is only 20 miles from me plus she has alot of pictures of them together.what gives? hasn't she ruined enough marriages!!!!!!

JR DO YOU THINK WE WILL EVER SEE HULK HOGAN BACK IN WWE EVEN THOUGH VINCE HATES HIM ALSO WHAT IS THE STATUS OF ROWDY RODDY PIPER HOPE FULLY HE IS DOING GOOD THANKS FOR ENTERTAINING ME FOR YEARS ANY PLANES OF OPENING ANY OTHER RESTERAUNTS IN OTHER AREAS CAN WAIT TO SEE YOU BACK IN SALT LAKE CITY GO BYU COUGARS

Hey JR, great site...just a quick question but does the "office" notice all the excitement going on about the forementioned "save us" promo and the link to a Jericho return? Seems to have created a buzz...also with Chris' book selling so well on pre order would management not consider a Y2J DVD, it should be a huge seller and a very entertaining DVD too... Take care Bob

Hey JR I have just the one question for you this week. Is there any plan of a hell in a cell match this year? I would love to see HHH vs Umaga (or as Regal calls him Umanga)go at it in one of these matches. Hope all is well

Only just stumbled across this site so I'm stopping in to say hey from New Zealand with a quick few queries. WWE has been kind enough to visit us a couple of times now, bring Smackdown! the first time, and then both Smackdown! and ECW the second, but I'm hanging out to see RAW come down here. Do you know if there's any chance of that happening? I'd go friggin' crazy for Triple H, Mr. Kennedy and Shelton Benjamin. Speaking of Benjamin, we all know that he's an incredibly talented guy, perhaps one of (if not THE) best pure wrestler on all three brands, what do you think he needs to get him that final straw that breaks through the glass ceiling?

J.R. my husband and i visited your restaurant this weekend and I mustsay it is amazing. I love the memoriablia. Seeing the history of wrestling was amazing. Keep up the great work. And my son loves the hat we got him for his birthday. He put it on a shelf as soon as we got home. Thank you for a great experience.

Hey JR, I'm from New Orleans. I know you can't really speak on shows coming or schedule but I was wondering. The Superdome over the year has held SugarBowls, SuperBowls, Final Fours, WCW Events, Why not Wrestlemania? It seems like it'd be a good venue to have it at. Thanks Matt

who played the role of uncle elmer? I thought it looked like haystacks but I am not that familiar with him

JR, Now with both Texas and OU losing this past weekend, how big is the Red River Shootout both your Sooners and My 'Horns? Can the Sooners beat USC too? Come to Fort Worth and see the real texas during Texas-OU weekend!

Hi J.R., I have been a wrestling fan since 1969. I have seen a lot of great wrestlers come and go. I really enjoy the older matches than I do the current ones. Pedro Morales was one of my favorite wrestlers along with Bruno Sammartino. Pedro held the WWWF title for 3 years before losing it to Stan Stasiak. Bruno held the same title previously for almost 8 years. Both records are amazing feats. Do you think anyone will ever beat either one of those title runs ? Is Pedro in the WWE Hall Of Fame ? I wish Bruno would allow himself to be inducted. Life is too short to carry a grudge. Even Bret Hart allowed himself the honor to be inducted and you know his checkered past with Vince. I think Bruno should think of his loyal fans and not just himself. Keep up the good work on Raw.

Hey JR, would you happen to know if Triple H is related to the teen singer Jojo? Theres a rumor online that he's her uncle since they both share the last name Levesque.

hey JR love your work wish i could get myy hands on some of your famous BBQ sauce here in ireland haha was wondering why we hear so little about Randy Savage? Afterall he was a main event superstar, ive heard hes on bad terms with the wwe due to reasons wich i wont go into here!!

Hi JR! Looking forward to RAW in Omaha on Oct 22nd. Tough break for your Sooners this week. Omaha is a big barbq town so hope you have some time for it. My comment is I really appreciated your style of announcing in NWA/WCW talking about the matches as legitimate forms of competition versus the present day WWE style of more storytelling, but you have excelled in both. My question is do you know what future topics you will be discussing on the Legend's Roundtable on WWE 24/7? It is one of my favorite features of the service and I love your candor and the way you hold nothing back.

I find it very surprising and bold for Treat Williams to come out and verbally challenge John Cena for a 'fight'. I could see possibly Savage or Hogan challenging Cena, but actor Treat Williams? Yes I agree that he was great in virtually all his movies and has solidified himself as a tough guy on the silver screen, but I would rather see Treat maybe as a guest General Manager or a crony of Vince McMahon's...now that would be a cool concept.

Jim Ross, great recipes, and great restaurant. Stopped by before heaving over to Loveland, OH for a family visit, and it was a hearty meal. Would you mind seeing Randy Savage in the 'gorilla' position or as a road agent backstage? I think people have a lot to learn from this legendary figure.

Do you expect Macho Man ever to return to WWE in ANY capacity? Also, would Savage/HHH be something Triple H would have fun doing, in your opinion?

jr have you heatd of bigfootville its some where in okalahoma

Hey, JR. I was wandering, with both my UT Longhorns and your OU Sooners losing big time on the field and obviously in the polls if you think the Red River Shootout would have been higher staked with both teams unbeaten and who you think would have an edge in the QB position? Colt McCoy is the real deal down on the 40 Acres and I haven't heard much about OU till the loss yeasterday. May the best team win and take the Golden Hat home in style. HOOK 'EM HORNS! God bless you and I hope to have the pleasure of hearing more classic slobberknockers called by you and the King, -James
