...and the feedback just keeps on Smokin’ just like the ribs and brisket at J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q!
Mason- I don’t have the info on autograph signings at live events domestically or abroad, but if you check out
www.wwe.com or with the arena they can probably provide you better info. Even though Cena will not be wrestling in Australia in November I am sure you will still enjoy the live event.
James- I have had the opportunity to call so many matches that I really enjoyed, so I can’t name one that stands out as “the best” but the ‘89 Flair-Funk “I Quit” bout was memorable because of the two wrestlers and that I worked with Gordon Solie. The Wrestlemania 22 match between HBK-Mr. McMahon was special inasmuch as I had been essentially turned out to pasture and never thought I would call another ‘Mania and did not know if WM 22 would be my last one, so there was a little extra fuel in my tank on that one. You selected some good ones, nonetheless.
Christopher- The Undertaker is a HOFer now it’s just that he hasn’t been officially inducted. Your guess is as good as mine as to when ‘Taker gets the official nod, but I hope it isn’t for a while, as I still enjoy watching him wrestle.
James- Will MVP be the next Rock? Too early in MVP’s game to be comparing him to the Rock. Those are rather large shoes to fill for MVP. MVP just needs to continue to work hard and be the best MVP he can be and not be concerned about being anyone but himself.
Pam- I guess those trusty internet rumors of HBK weren’t too accurate after all. Imagine that. Seriously, it is great to have HBK back on Raw.
Ryan- It was nice to hear that you had such a positive experience meeting the new WWE Champion Randy Orton. I think Orton’s reputation as a bad boy is overblown, but no one is immune to having a bad day. I do not condone the actions of any wrestler who is rude to fans but I can tell you from experience that some fans step over the line at times, especially when they don’t immediately get what they want. The vast majority of fans are super, but there is always a handful that can ruin it for the rest. I have been around Randy since day one and he has always been respectful of me even in trying times.
Pete- I am a major proponent of the WWE having a Wrestlemania in Dallas at Jerry Jones’ new, Cowboy Stadium as I feel that the WWE would sell 100,000 tickets to the event.
Matt- TV networks or cable systems running out dated TV ads for wrestling events has been going on for years. Many times matches are booked and commercials are produced and shipped to the TV outlets and then for a litany of reasons, the match or matches change but the TV outlets do not pull the spots from their air. New TV spots are provided to these stations all the time, but that doesn’t mean that those at the local level replace the inaccurate spots with the new ones.
Richie- I don’t know Drew Galloway. Sorry.
Robbie- Mrs. J.R. does indeed attend OU games at home and she went with me to Dallas for the OU-Texas game. She’s a Steeler fan at heart, but loves the Sooners too. We celebrated 14 years of marriage on October 12 much to my delight.
Bob- I think the winner of the Boston-Cleveland series may well win the World Series. However, no team in baseball has been as hot as the Rockies. I guess that’s why they play the games.
Alan- I don’t know how much the challengers have to do directly with the injuries the champion’s have incurred recently, but I expect not a great deal or any more than normal. Injuries happen in contact sports and no matter the entertainment content that wrestling presents, the performers are true athletes who do get injured in the course of their jobs. Wrestling isn’t ballet, in all due respect to you ballet fans out there.
Ed- Being on the sideline for OU-Texas was fun and exciting. Being on the Sooner sideline is always a rush as one gets caught up with the sounds of the game, the crowd noise, and he natural animal magnetism of being close to the game. Perhaps it is akin to being on row one at a wrestling event.
Amanda- Even though I am an old school, traditionalist, I have never spent too much time thinking about what design a championship belt should take. Whether or not the WWE Title Belt changes is something I know zilch about nor does it concern me.
Ron- IF and that is a big IF, the Sooners are in the Big 12 Title game in San Antonio, I will definitely be there and plan on attending with Stone Cold if our plans stay as they currently are.
Anthony- Charcoal heat makes for better grilling and smoking flavor but propane is more convenient. I would go with charcoal if all things were equal and I had to choose one over the other.
Brian- I purposely do not hire any one to work at our place. That’s not an issue I want to be involved with as I trust our managers to do the job they were hired to do and they do a super job of hiring staff. To get a job at J.R.’s, all applicants must apply in person at the restaurant.
Ronnie- Nikita Koloff was always a nice guy and I never remember any negative issues with him whatsoever. Nikita was intense in the ring and worked hard, but outside the ring he was approachable and polite, indicative of a good upbringing. Class act all the way.
Steve- I look forward to Monday Night Raw in Omaha as I will be attending the OU-Iowa State game the Saturday prior in Ames. Mr. McMahon took himself out of the broadcast booth to expand the Mr. McMahon persona but working with him and Lawler in the three man booth was the best three man team I can recall working with in wrestling. I am not an anti Husker fan whatsoever, but simply support my team, the Sooners. I am sure that some in Omaha will boo “Boomer Sooner” which is certainly their choice. No worries here.
Ilya- I was on the OU sideline with Adrian Peterson down in Dallas for the Texas game and he is still a wonderful young man who wants to win some games for his team, the Vikings. Without question, if AD can avoid being injured he will evolve into one of the very best running backs in the NFL, if not the best over time. Bret Favre is one of my all time favorite athletes who I got to know his rookie year in 1992 when I was broadcasting Atlanta Falcon football. Bret is one of a kind and I am ecstatic the Pack are playing so well during the twilight of #4’s career.
Johnny- It seems as if Mark Mangino’s Jayhawks are for real and with a little good fortune could win the Big 12 North. People here in Norman are happy for the former OU assistant coach. I officiated some high school basketball games that KU Coach Bill Self played in many, many years ago as an FYI.
Erik- I have not heard a word about any pending debut for Eddie Colon, Carlito’s brother, but I do know he is a talented young man. All I can say is stay tuned, but I assume it is not imminent if it will occur at all.
Tom- I met Steve Largent once when he was running for office here in Oklahoma and found him to be a really down to earth, nice guy. Largent is living proof that one can remain a decent human being and still be a high profile athlete as many do. The maligned world of politics could use more people with Largent’s character.
Bob- LSU controls their own destiny, as it relates to making to the January 7 BCS Championship game and they are talented enough to make it happen it seems. If they do make it by hook or crook, they play essentially a home game in New Orleans for the National Title, which gives the Bengal Tigers a huge advantage.
Jeremy- Last I heard was that Tony Schiavone was doing sports talk radio in the Atlanta area and had no interest in getting back in wrestling, whatsoever.
Michael- Ric Flair is simply a special human being who has been blessed to be able to stay somewhat healthy throughout his illustrious career. Your comparison of Ric to Bret Favre, Roger Clemens, etc is on the money.
Grant- Sorry we did not get the chance to visit outside the Cotton Bowl. Texas played hard and yes the Charles fumble was a killer. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Horns run the table the rest of the season. Thanks for the hello in Big D.
Mike- Kennedy seems to have a bright future a head of him without question. It already seems as if Kennedy has his share of fans, which is not a bad thing. Kennedy as a fan favorite seems inevitable, but I don’t see it at the moment.
Phil- I did give some wrong info at No Mercy regarding how many times the WWE Title had been vacated. My bad as I went with the research material that was provided me, instead of doing all my own homework. Sorry if this info inconvenienced you.
jwallstram-The OU Football play by play job on radio has always been a dream of mine since I was 10 years old. The chance of me getting that opportunity is extremely slim, but I seem to do the play by play in my head at every game. Coach Bob Stoops is a great friend and extends the courtesy of providing me a sideline pass for the Sooner Football games of which I am really thankful. Good Lord Willing I will be on the sideline for many more Sooner games including the road contests!
Josh- We are working on getting our products in grocery stores, but that is a huge mountain to climb, as it relates to shelf space and distribution. But we are trying. As far as the franchising of J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q, that is also in our plans but is a long term goal and not one that can be accomplished in a short time. That will most likely occur in 2-3 years while we are building more stores in the OKC metro area.
Adam- Michelle McCool is one of the best, pure athletic divas to join the WWE in years. Plus she isn’t hard on the old eyes either. I think Michelle has a big upside much like Trish did.
Dark Maiden- If that is your real name, I am not concerned about what you “think” about my opinion of women’s wrestling today. Do you think I am going to go on WWE air and outwardly knock the Divas? How stupid would I be to do that?? I am not a huge fan of food fights, etc but I still do not feel that women should wrestle men. We printed your comment out of fairness and I have replied out of fairness to you but we don’t have to agree. Right? Jackie Moore, Ivory, and Molly Holly were all excellent wrestlers and the younger Divas are striving to get to that level one has to assume. Chyna wrestling men still makes me cringe.
I appreciate everyone’s feedback and the chance to interact with many of you. We don’t all have to agree, but the difference of opinion is what keeps things interesting.
We are preparing several new specials in our store for your consideration and remember that we ship WORLDWIDE! Order now for the holidays and thanks a bunch for your business. Be well everybody!
BOOMER SOONER!
