I hope everyone is having a great holiday season and making wise decisions, as in not drinking and driving, and making sure that your seat belts are used for everyone in any vehicle you may be riding. Common sense is a good thing, even though I have been guilty MANY times of not using the aforementioned trait, including having one too many beverages to be driving a vehicle, for which I paid a price, and for rolling a pickup while not wearing a seat belt and being fortunate enough to live to tell about it.

Just a few random thoughts before we get to your comments:

  • I would like to see a few two out of three fall matches on TV this next year, as they seem to be TV friendly, as at the end of a fall the commercial break could naturally come along and upon the return to the action the next fall could commence.
  • Is it really necessary for some fans to yell “boring!” when wrestlers apply a pressure hold and actually attempt to focus on a specific body part of their opponents?
  • How many tables does it take these days to get the beloved and much adored adulation of a “Holy S*#@!” moment?
  • No... wrestling announcers are not utilizing the old school “play by play” these days to any large degree because that is not what they are instructed to do. The irony of this is that many of the announcers themselves are damned for such heinous actions, even though they are doing as instructed by their employers. As announcers, we have a job to do and are damned happy to be there doing it. So would many others, I assure you.
  • From where I sit, wrestlers do not have to be 6’2”/250 pounds to be stars in today’s marketplace, but what do I know?
  • College football bowl games are similar to wrestling championships... there are too many of them.
  • Why am I supposed to dislike a wrestling antagonist, the bad guy, if said individual makes me laugh more often than not?
  • At the end of the day, who do short matches on TV REALLY help? The winner? The loser? Or no one??
  • Why do some fans who obviously read a fair amount of the wrestling internet, feel compelled to create personally insulting signs to be displayed on TV? I can remember one such sign right after I came back from one of my bouts with Bells palsy that said, “J.R. Has Lost His Smile!” Nice...
  • I would rather see a wrestler, even if it were one of my favorites, lose by pinfall or submission ANY DAY, than by a lame disqualification or count out.
  • As a viewer, is it really necessary for wrestling announcers to yell at me for the duration of their broadcasts? I know I have been guilty of this and it is akin to crying wolf.
  • Does it seem that hot, personal issues are oftentimes more interesting than title bouts?
  • Why does it seem that so many longtime fans love WWE 24/7, even if they don’t watch the current product on a religious basis?
  • Do you think that if more fans would focus on the really important aspects of their lives, and not live and die by what they see on a wrestling show, that they would be better off? Just curious...
  • Why don’t more people know the difference between Bar-B-Q’ing and Grilling? It is huge! For those that want to know the difference, I explain it all in my book, “J.R.’s Cookbook.”
  • Did you know that our autographed copies of “J.R.’s Cookbook” are a wrestling story book essentially for men (there are TONS of my own personal wrestling business stories in it), plus some really great recipes too.
  • Are you as tired of hearing about the Mitchell Report regarding steroids in MLB as I am, and do you wish that there could be steps taken immediately to bring closure to the matter?
  • How about zero tolerance for everyone? I mean e v e r y o n e.
  • Why does the FDA even allow HGH to be sold for any reason other than what it was created to do, and that was to treat dwarfism?
  • With no blood tests normally allowed in the NFL for their players, thanks to their union, how many NFL players do you suspect might be gaining a competitive edge by using HGH?
  • Why do so many former NFL players who are now broadcasters look so much smaller than they did when they were playing? Did they all become vegans?
  • If I were to suspect that Barry Bonds is guilty of alleged improprieties and that Roger Clemens isn’t, does that make me sound like a racist?
  • Should I put away my wrestling territory soapbox considering the territory days will likely never return as they once were, even though the death of the territories has changed the business forever and arguably not for the better?
  • If New England doesn’t win the Super Bowl, will this magnificent 16-0 season that the Pats have had be for nothing?
  • Why am I supposed to emotionally invest in the NBA or the NHL this time of the year when they seemingly play the “never ending season”?
  • Who started this run away tattoo trend in sports and entertainment and why? I have no body art, but I have close family members who do, and I haven’t got a clue as to why. Does that make me an old fart?
  • Did you ever think of what some older ladies were going to look like when their tattoos are like 50 years old? That could be scary, much like J.R. modeling Speedo swimwear.
  • Is there any logical reason why some wrestlers of past generations that worked regularly should be in such financial peril as many seem to be?
  • Shouldn’t wrestlers be reminded that “Uncle Sam” is undefeated and never adheres to the “time honored tradition”?
  • When will fans understand that trying to get autographs at the arenas isn’t advantageous, but catching their favorites at the hotels or at some airports is much better?

I wonder if I will just for once be able to keep more than one of my New Year’s Resolutions in 2008? Damn I hope so.

Now on to your feedback... Bar-B-Q’ed style!

Hey Jim,
I’m a supporter of the new format of answering questions too. Thumbs up!
-- Jess Hutchy From Down Under

That’s better than middle finger up! Thanks Jess.

Hi JR,
I was wondering if you know what has become of the Cruiserweight Title since Hornswoggle was forced to abdicate it? Was him winning it in the first place just a way for the WWE to put an end to it? I have noticed that cruiserweights are now being used other ways.
- Bubba

It would seem that the Cruiserweight Title is not a priority, not that it ever was. I do not know the long term status, but my guess would be that it is in “hiatus” for now.

Hi J.R.,
I ordered my dad and brothers Christmas gifts from your mail order page. It came to them fast and no damage at all. They were thrilled and couldn’t believe it, as they read your blog all the time (Hi Dad and Bob and Chris!). I got my father the autographed bucket of JR’s goodies and he just loves it and put it on the TV. I helped him eat the jerkey. Man was that GOOD! The spicy one is pretty hot and spicy, too. And I hate to say this, but we just love your nuts!
Thanks - Dean in Philly

That’s great Dean. I’m glad everyone enjoyed the goods and hope everyone’s holidays were fun. And my nuts are winners for sure!

HI J.R
I AM A HUGE FAN OF U FROM KUWAIT AND I WOULD LIKE TO ASK U ABOUT WCW LIBRARY THAT WWE HAS. IT LOOKS LIKE WWE IS NOT USING MUCH OF IT IN THE 24-7 NOR ON DVD AND I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT I HAVE TRY YOUR Bar-B-Q SOUCE AND I LOVE IT. KEEP THE GOOD WORKING GOING.
- MESHARI |

I’m liking that we are selling Bar-B-Q Sauce in Kuwait and you have tried it! The WWE has so much material in their library that there is a ton of material that I am waiting on to see as well. My only suggestion is to be patient, as there is no doubt that it will all be utilized as some point.

Hi Jr, I have just read my hero Bret Hart’s book, and to say it is a must read is an understatement. He handled himself with grace and a great deal of dignity and despite his many, many tragedies and misfortune he came across as if he was in a happy place. He was complimentary to HBK never taking away that HBK was a great wrestler and an outstanding athlete, when he could have buried him. The saddest thing about this to me is Bret may feel his fans would disrespect him for being associated with WWE again. My answer would be ANY TRUE BRET HART fan just wants to see the greatest story teller , the top 5 best wrestler ever and a true icon in this business back in wrestling (to whatever capacity Bret could physically reach.) He would make a great trainer!!!!!!
- Andy Joyce (from the Uk)

Bret has so much to give the business. if he ever chooses to go that direction. I would think that having Bret Hart speak with young talents as they start their careers in the business would prove to be invaluable. Again, many fans forget Bret’s health issues and even though they are improving, I am happy to report; Bret still should not be in the ring attempting physicality.

Hi JR how s life treating you? I was just wondering if u know what the outcome of matches on raw/pap’s are going to be, or if u go out announcing unaware just to add to the realism? also how’s Droz?
- Mathew-leeds, England

Life is good, thanks. Droz is doing well, as I saw him the last time we were in Philly. He is still wheelchair bound, but he is mentally as sharp as ever. The less I know in advance about the matches I broadcast, the better.

Happy Holidays, J.R.! I’m thinking the comment about “Playboy Rick Flair” was actually regarding Buddy Landell who had the same look as Flair back in the day. I was wondering what your thoughts were on Brutus Beefcake, most newer fans don’t seem to care for him, while a lot of older ones have colorful memories of him and Valentine’s tag champ run, plus the Mania 3-era creation of “The Barber” character. Still hoping to see Savage again someday, too! Best wishes.
- Chris

I never knew of Buddy Landell working for the Bruiser. I’m thinking the individual in question might have been Playboy Buddy Rose, but it definitely wasn’t Ric Flair. Beefcake had sizzle and a great ally in Hogan. which did not hurt his status in the WWE. Did Beefcake ever draw any main event money anywhere but the WWE?

Hi J.R.
I just saw the following news item posted on one wrestling website that I thought you’d get a kick out of! It is Internet “reporting” at its finest!
“There has been talk of WWE inducting legendary announcer Gordon Solie into the hall of fame in recent years. Jim Ross has pushed the suggestion, but he seems to have lost his influence in that area.”
Anyway, I hope you had a great Christmas.
- LeeUK

I have endorsed Gordon Solie for the WWE Hall of Fame for years and while I have “some influence” with certain individuals in the company, I am extremely content to have less influence now, than I did when I was immersed in the corporate world and living in Connecticut. As are many internet theorists, this one is not totally accurate, but closer than some I have read.

Hello there Mr. Ross. On Christmas Eve I purchased the new Best of Raw 15th Anniversary set. It’s a really great DVD collection. I’m thrilled that the WWE put on these three discs many of my favorite Raw segments of all time. However when watching the first disc I discovered a gem of a match. It was taken from the July 11th Raw in 1994. The match was Bret Hart defending the WWF championship against the 1-2-3 Kid. I was pleasantly surprised at how good that match was. In my opinion it was even great. I was wondering if you recalled this match and had any thoughts on it.
- Johnathan

I remember broadcasting this match as it was when I was brought back to the WWE the second time, during the Federal Trial that Mr. McMahon was undergoing. It was a helluva wrestling match and took place in a small arena such as Bushkill, N.Y. or something like that. Bret helped put Waltman on the map and the result was an excellent wrestling contest. of which we see too few of these days on Monday nights.

JR, in my mind Jeff Hardy should be the WWE Champ and I’m glad the creative team is giving him a push and I hope he gets the title at the Royal Rumble, but I got a question about his future WWE Hall of Fame status. When Jeff was in TNA from 2004 to 2006, does is it going to affect him in the long run? In my eyes he is a future hall of famer despite what anyone says. P.S. His brother Matt also needs to be pushed for a title very soon after he recovers.
- Aero

I think it is ridiculously early to talk of Jeff hardy’s Hall of Fame status. Plus his WWE Title reign he seems anointed to have, hasn’t and may not even occur, as time alone will tell. This is a “cart before the horse” sort of thing. Perhaps we should let the scenario play out before Jeff is rushed into the HOF and crowned WWE Champion.

Happy Holidays JR!
First and foremost, as it’s my first time posting on your site, thank you for years of entertainment. I truly believe that your announcing makes and adds to the magic that WWE creates. I was so happy for you when you were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, because it was so obvious how much it meant for you.
The question I have to ask is this: how do you feel about the wrestling ‘media.’ I’m starting to get really annoyed with various wrestling magazines and websites for their depiction of wrestling, and of WWE in particular. In light of the tragic events of this year, these media outlets seem determined to undermine the good, solid entertainment that WWE provides. Instead, they focus on the ‘seedy side’ of wrestling that is ‘apparently’ so common today (COUGH COUGH). Why do you think that these people, who must love wrestling to work in these jobs, seem determined to bring it down? With the idiots in the American media already trying (and failing) to do this, wouldn’t you think they would offer the business support? Again, thanks for everything. You’re an inspiration dude.
- Rory

I definitely do not think that all the wrestling media are bad, by any stretch of the imagination. However there are some who seemingly feel compelled to focus on the negatives of the business and spend much less time on the good side while covering bad news or running with inane rumors, as if they were hard facts. I want to believe that most of these folks are wrestling fans, but frustrated because the creative content that they see weekly on TV isn’t their cup of tea. I can relate to that, in general. However, those in the wrestling media that are overtly negative are simply following the trend of the national media as our society is apparently more interested in bad news, the never ending coverage of tragedies, gossip, dirt, and scandal. I don’t blame anyone in the wrestling media for that, as this is a societal issue and as long as there is a market for it, people will continue to provide it. It’s akin to the TMZ TV show and their coverage of the dirt and gossip, which many people that I know enjoy. It seems to be working for them. When’s the last time a show from Nancy Grace, Hannity and Colmes, etc. focused their hour of TV on “good news”? If they did that, their all important ratings would die a natural death.

I have read many wrestling news items involving myself that I knew were wrong or grossly embellished, but that goes with the turf. I am oftentimes satirized or made fun of, on various websites or in newsletters, because of what I write here, as many people think I should be more harsh and caustic regarding my “day job.” Dying on the hill of “I don’t like the creative, so therefore I am going to quit in protest” would be about as stupid as the reporters or fans who suggest that I do such.

How’s it going J.R.? I was just wondering, why was there no Monday Night Raw scheduled in Oklahoma this year (‘07)? I’m a giant fan of yours and I’m sorry to say but an even bigger fan of the WWE taking advantage of being in O.K. and giving you a whoopin’. It’s not so much that I enjoy watching you get hurt (it’s still a big part of it), but I really get a kick out of you getting some in-ring air time.
- Cheo

Yeah, me too, Cleo, as I really enjoy getting in the ring and getting my ass kicked in my home town. It is truly a blast and I sincerely miss it. Nonetheless, I think Raw is back in OKC on Monday June 30, the last I heard, but that’s not official.

J.R. - what are the chances of eventually seeing The Fallen Angel, Christopher Daniels in the WWE since he is no longer with T N A wrestling?
- charles bessett

That would be a talent relations or creative question , Charles. Nonetheless Daniels is a uniquely talented wrestler.

Hey there JR;
I was wondering if you have any idea as to why none of the contestants in the 2007 Diva Search (except for the winner Eve) have received WWE contracts. This year seems to be the first where only the winner appears to be sticking around.. Considering Candice Michelle did not even make the top 8 in the first ever diva search do you think any of the divas from this year’s contest will get an opportunity like she did?
Cheers, Keep up the good work!!
- Josh A

You have just spent infinitely more time thinking about the Diva Search than I have this entire year.

Hi J.R.,
Have u seen the pictures of paul bearer on his website where hes lost loads of weight? He looks really different, and have u heard the jim ross rap that is on youtube?
- matt

The WWE funded Paul’s surgery a few years back, and I truly believe that the weight loss helped save PB’s life. The artist formerly known as Percy Pringle was a great manager prior to coming to the WWE as many long term fans remember. Percy, Michael Hayes, and Robert Gibson all grew up in the Pensacola area and were life long fans of wrestling. Yes, I have seen the “rap” on YouTube, as have my kids, as they mentioned it during the holidays and they thought it was funny as well. I wish I had that much “free time,” but one has to consider it all in fun.

J.R.,
Why does the Great Khali have a job with WWE when he clearly can’t work? Seriously what is your opinion of the guy and why he’s employed, does WWE still think after two years that he can refine his skills, or is it just because Vince has a thing for big men?
- Matt

The Great Khali is an “attraction” at 7’3”/420 pounds, but there is no doubt that an argument could be made that Khali has been over exposed on TV. But at the end of the day, is the fact that Khali is employed and earning a living to provide for his family that big of an issue?

Hello, JR!
Does any of the WWE Superstars have any form of contact on the internet so fans can write to them?
Thanks, Liam

In our WWE Links list, there is a link to click to leave messages for WWE talent.
Here it is: Contact a Superstar »

Hey JR, What a game between your Sooners and my Mountaineers! All in all, it was a good game and I was scared for a while. I just loved the pure emotion shown by Bill Stewart on the sidelines; he had passion and just had fun. I believe to many coaches (NFL and NCAA) lack that. Hat's off to your Sooners, JR. -Brandon

Hi there Mr. Ross, I hope you & your family had a great Christmas & a fantastic New Year. I just read about Jonathan Coachman being the the replacement for the now Raw star JBL, on the Smackdown announce team. I had a thought the other day..... Whatever happened to Todd Pettingill? He would be a great replacement IMO, and a bit of old-school announcing would be a great addition to Smackdown. Cheers,

Happy New Year J.R.. Hope all is well with you and the family. Caught the New Years Eve Raw. I was very impressed with Kennedy's performance in his match with Shawn Micheals. It didn't look like HBK had to carry Kennedy at all. He's got heaps of potential. I suspect he'll go places if he keeps improving the way he has. I was pleasantly surprised with the main event. I'm one of the few who will admit to not being a Flair fan. I mean no disrespect to the man and I have no intention to bad mouth him nor his accomplishments. I just simply do not like the wrestling style that he (and Hogan) employees. That being said, I am a Triple H fan so I had mixed expectations for this match. I hoped Helmsley would be able to carry Flair through the match and make it believable but I wasn't holding my breath. The match came off better than I had expected and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The finish however.... I wasn't impressed with that at all. Granted, Flair beating Triple H would have been entirely unbelievable but a dq ending to such a great match was a huge let down regardless of the fact that I was rooting for the Game to get the pin.

hey JR, I just noticed that this years Royal Rumble is from MSG, i love WWE events there as they have a unique feel to them. My only question is though, how come the last few events from MSG (Raw, Mania XX) havent had the same arena layout as the likes of Survior Series 96, Summerslam 98, Royal Rumble 2000 & Survivor Series 2002 with the entrance oppoisite the hard camera? Just wondered if you knew of any reason as thats another reason i think events from MSG seem more "special". Cheers.

It is quite possible that it was Buddy Rose that I was seeing. I know he was a heel and he had that similar look that Flair had at the time. There are so many wrestlers from that show who's names I can't recall, but remember the look they had. Spike Huber's tag partner was a tall longhaired blond guy. A Mexican wrestler that always wore silver boots. Some guy that looked like Hillbilly Jim, but was built like Haystacks. And he was always fueding with some small heel with red hair nad a beard, and carried a big leg bone to the ring. Wish I could remember them all, but I was 8 that the time, and I never got to see much of it before it went of the air, or was moved to another channel. It was good times though. And got me ready for the WWF a few years later. Happy New year to You and your's Jimmy boy!!

Hey JR first off i wanna say im a long time fan of yours, i have truly enjoyed your announcing abiities over the many years, i personally rank you up there with the likes of Gordon Solie in announcers and color commentary personalities in wrestling. secondly i gotta admit that I am a huge WVU Mountaineer Fan and just wanna get your opinions on the Fiesta Bowl and the performance of both WVU and the Sooners.

Hi j.R. this might be an oddball question but i watched King of the Ring 96 yesterday and couldn't get over owen hart's commentating as he was was a special commentator for the event. I couldn't believe what a great, witty, and funny color commentator he was. What do you think of commentating with him on that night?

Hi J.R. I have a non-wrestling question coming from the Morgantown, WV area. Mind you, I've only watched the Sooners play a couple times this year. My question is does the OU band always play the fight song as many times as they did during the Fiesta Bowl? I've always thought it was a catchy tune and all but my goodness! Not trying to be rude about the question either. I've been to ACC, Big East, and SEC games and have never heard a fight song that much. OU ran into an inspired, talented, and unusually physical Mountaineer team. No reason to feel down for the Sooners, WVU should have finished better than they did and it showed tonight. P.S. I used to listen to the WSB AM shows back in the day during my Air Force stint in Warner Robins, GA. Good memories... Thanks, MF

J.R. I've been a big fan for years and love watching RAW, but after the Fiesta Bowl I just have to give you a big HELLO!!!! From WEST "BY GOD" VIRGINIA, GO MOUNTIANEERS!!!!

Hi JR, I just got done with the World Class Championship Wrestling DVD and I thought it was just as good as the AWA DVD....But anyway after seeing this I was just wondering if you think the WWE would ever consider inducting Kevin Von Erich or maybe just the Von Erich's in general to the WWE Hall Of Fame? I know they did this with Verne Gagne back in 2006 so I thought maybe they would do the same thing here. I mean honestly for all Kevin as endured I think it would be a great thing for the WWE to do.

I have nothing against the "nuts" slogan, I actually like it, but it kind of contridicts the "family" part of "JRs *FAMILY* Bar B.Q.". I think that may be part of the reason people might be offended. Like I said, I like the slogan, but thats just my analysis of the situation.

Fiesta Bowl, the look on your face, mirrored the look on my face. As a fellow Oklahoma, I am kind of depressed right now, and wonder what you think went wrong? If Reggie Smith, got to give a shout out to my former Santa Fe Wolf, was 100% healthy, do you think he would of had any outcome? Speaking of fellow Oklahomans. What will happen to Charlie Haas now that Shelton Benjamin is getting a push on ECW?

Hey J.R.! I've been a wrestling fan (I'm told) since the days of Bob Backlund holding the WWE(F) championship. I've listened to the greats at the position, and I have to say that it is my own humble opinion that you are the best I've ever had the privilege of listening to. I know you don't think you are as good as everyone says, but I'm here to tell you, as a fan, that you are every bit as good as everyone says. To my point... There are a lot of rumors going around about HBK's health status. As of late, I've done some homework on his career, and I believe he is wrestling better than ever. Perhaps not as high-flying, but Shawn seems to have improved his "Mat Game." His matches with Orton at Survivor Series, and Kennedy at Armageddon were perfect, in my opinion. So...I guess the question is: Is there any truth to the rumors that Shawn isn't long for the business?

JR, you are my second favorite "Jim", ranking only behind a "Slim Jim"...dig it!? RMP

J.R. Happy New Year!. Usually I'm pretty impartial towards wrestling personalities. From what I hear, you are as well. You worked under Cowboy Bill & well, Vince. But there is one guy, I do not get or understand. Your thoughts on the man who created wrestling, the territory system, everything, The One & The Only, Ole Anderson. He Quotes Bill Watts like they are best pals and Vince like he is the antichrist. Wasn't he a one of the Horsemen? :) Doh'.

Big fan JR...like some others, wondering if you could give us an update on the health of The Brain, Bobby Heenan? Also, how about one on Roddy Piper? I thought his absence at the Raw Anniversary show was odd. Hopefully his health is still on the upswing. Thanks for the info!

Hi JR, I was wondering if you know if there is anyone trying to organize a union for wrestlers and other people in the wrestling business? Do you think that it will ever happen. I seems to be something that is sorely needed in the wrestling industry. Also, why is it that it used to be the Intercontinental Champion was basically the #1 contender to the Heavyweight Title and started working into the main events. Now days, with some exceptions, it seems like a lot of wrestlers just stay around mid card after winning the IC Title. Thanks JR

Jim, Just talked to Pat Rose who told me Randy Barber passed away this week. Randy was a very talented wrestler who got his start with Mike Jackson and did "jobs" for about every office in the 80's. I saw him last year in Birmingham and he was in bad shape from a back injury. His wife said he had a heart attack. Bless you, Jim Powell

Hey JR I reviewed your quote "Why does it seem that so many longtime fans love WWE 24/7, even if they don’t watch the current product on a religious basis"? I ask myself the same question...i just dont enjoy the current product...im always looking back at matches from 1999/2000..for me this time period was the best.

JR HAPPY NEW YEARS TO YOU & MRS JR !! I was watching The Nature Boy give one of his best preformances in the last 5 years on Mon. night. The hair stood on my neck, tears came to my eyes. It was the Ric Flair of the 80's, riding again !! WOOOOOOOO !! Finally the WWE was being "Fair to Flair" and letting Him do what he does best. As the match went on I pondered. Will HHH tap to the figure 4? Maybe one of the 4 horsemen will distract the ref? Maybe Regal will punch Flair? WHAT? WAIT A MIN ! REGAL PUNCHING FLAIR? Who writes this stuff? Are they part of the random drug test policy? That was such a let down to an awesome match. And sure wasn't Fair to Flair. He has few matches left and should get clean wins. He deserves no less, especially when giving such a great preformance. ( I know JR totally not your hill to die on. But thank you for such a great chance to express viewpoints.) PS: I'M LOADING UP ON SAUCE AND JERKY YUMMY

Hello JR! First and foremost, happy new year to you! I hope you had as good of a time as I did! I just wanted to comment on the 2007 WWE video game. I recently got an Xbox 360 and my boyfriend bought me Smackdown vs Raw '07. I absolutely LOVE the game!!! The graphics are of course amazing, but the highlight is clearly the entrances! Undertaker does the whole bit including the eye rolling thing (which by the way my mother can do! haha!) and, much to my boyfriend's delight, Mr Kennedy does his whole entrance too. I was a bit bummed that Jeff wasn't on it, but I'm sure he's on the new one anyway! The controls are pretty easy as well. The people at Jakks Pacific and THQ did a great job! I hope WWE continues to have these two great companies make games for them! Your commentary on the matches is great too! I love it!

Hi JR, I've got a question for you regarding the WWE Championship. Do you think that now, with so much Afro-American talent in the WWE, that it might be time for the first black WWE Champion? I know Lashley was WWE's ECW Champion, and Booker T was WWE's World Heavyweight Champion, but with respect, they are titles which have been held by black men in the past in former organisations. The World Heavyweight Title (which I'm sure many people remeber being worn by Sting and the like in WCW as the WCW Championship) was held by Booker T five times previously, and originally won by Ron Simmons the first time. Similarly with the ECW Title, held in the past by Taz. I know that The Rock was of mixed race, but am not sure if that would be considered. Who would you think could be the pioneer? Big Daddy V, Mark Hendry, Elijha Burke, Shelton Benjamin or MVP?

Hello Mr. Ross! First of all, I truly enjoy your and "The King's" work on Raw. I appreciate the emotion you have and the comedy "King" adds. It's a great balance. My question is: Does the WWE have any plans (that you are aware of) to do a DVD dedicated to some of the legendary African-American Wrestlers (a DVD similar to the "Most Powerful Families" DVD)? I ask because I only really here of some of the more notable names from the WWE (such as JYD, Rocky Johnson, Tony Atlas and Ernie Ladd) and know they had an important impact on wrestling. But along with these Hall of Famers and great wrestlers, I feel that Rufus R. "Freight Train" Jones, S.D. Jones, Rocky Johnson's "Sweet Ebony Diamond" character in the NWA and several others had impact on wrestling as well. Thanks for your time.

JR I have recently seen the DVD's that are supposed to be released this year (hopfully they aren't just rumors) and I'm very excited mainly because every other DVD documentary has been extremely interesting and well put together. If you had your choice of a documentary to be made about any current or former superstar, or maybe even a former promotion such as the NWA or WCW, who or what would it be about?

Jim I want to write for the WWE or any other wrestling company what is the best road to travel on.

Hello Mr. Ross. I love the blog and I read it constantly. I would just like to say some things about the WWE 24/7 channel. Fans love it because 1) it is convenient, 2) it features many of the old matches and faces that we love, even if it could use some more Stan Hansen, 3) it gives you the chance to catch a semi-current PPV that you would rather pay $8 for instead of $40 or if you didn't particularly care for the show, you can skip it altogether, 4) the shows exclusive to the channel, especially the round table conversations, 5) if a match or segment is really bad or exceptionally bowling shoe ugly, you can fast forward through it as opposed to enduring it (I'm sure that in your storied career, you have wanted this option to be possible in real life) 6) it is a great channel essential for any wrestling fan. I currently only watch the current product in a casual manner because the current writing staff seems more compelled to make a sitcom-soap opera hybrid with matches in it as opposed to straight forward good booking. Why would I watch people chase a leprechaun when I could watch the historical Tully Blanchard vs Magnum TA feud brew on 24/7? I prefer shows that were written by people with a knowledge of the business instead of Hollywood credentials. I'm sure I'm not alone. Speaking of the round table shows, why does Michael Hayes believe that Gordon Soile was "an idiot"? I personally believe him to be amongst the greatest commentators of all time as well as his times commentating alongside you to be the best commentary team ever. Again, I am not alone in this thinking. I know he is entitled to his opinion but that doesn't mean it isn't wrong. It is like saying Ric Flair never had a good match or that the Beatles sound awful. See any movies lately? Take care: Mike

Hi JR, I feel that Jericho is a good wrestler and entertainer. A unique combination. Since he returned, he has been trying hard and showed little ring rust, and it will be a matter of time he gets back to his former self, but it doesn't help when you got backstage politicking scums like HHH spreading rumours and bad jokes about Y2J.

Hi Mr. Ross, I recently had an article about Lex Luger published on PWTorch.com (cheap plug), and was hoping to get your thoughts on Lex and his health scare a few months ago.

Happy New Year Jim. And yes your BQ Sauce kick them all. And i would love to see more 2 out of 3 pinfalls and some TV time limlt matches always seem to be exciting too. I know the events around Chris Benoit are bad but you know he poured everything he had into his matches and i bet there are alot of fans that would agree with me on that. But i think that by blocking or removing his matches from any DVD or 24/7 events of some of the greatest matches is wrong. He did make many highlight reels. What do think should we total block them out from the great wrestling fans? or should we wait for a while then start to show some. I would love to get my hands on one of his DVD`s with his matches over the last 5 or 6 years and even before that. Thanks LeRoy Keep the SAUCE coming.

...wouldn't it be great if all signs that didn't pertain to WRESTLING got confiscated at the door? When will some fans learn that they aren't a part of the show.

That was a great read JR and you made some excellent points (with some good humor sprinkled in), but one that confused me was the one about it being more advantageous to ask wrestlers for autographs at hotels or airports, because I was under the impression that when they're at a hotel or airport they'd be on their own time, and wouldn't want to be bothered by their fans, whereas in the arena they'd be "on the clock".

JR., Will WWE ever use WCW? I just wish we could see something different on WWE programing..Iv noticed allot of people asking about WCW and its video collections allot on this blog..I think that shows that WCW is something that we all miss now, and we want back. BTW we bought some of your BBQ sauce, it was great.Better than Sonny's BBQ we have here in KY. Thanks Chris

If the rumors are true, will the Randy Savage DVD be more likely a "Bret Hart" DVD, or "Ultimate Warrior" DVD where he was just trashed throughout the whole dvd?

hey JR! I truly miss the attitude era where storylines seemed at times to be unscripted and full of surprises and "shock value", that's what, in my opinion, have made the wrestling fans tune every monday night to watch. What happened to all those good writers?

Hi, My english isn't perfect but I really needed to ask a few questions to a pro and expert in the WWE world. Let me inroduce to you, I´m João from Portugal, Oporto. I'm 14 and I love wrestling, my favorite wrestler is Jeff Hardy. The fact is there I want to be a pro Wrestler, but there's no wrestling here in Portugal (federations or Organisations) so my questions are- Can I become a really good pro wrestler in the US by Working Hard but without having any practise in the past? (imagine i'm an adult with 21 and i just arrived in USA) Where can I have this kind of train? How many years would it take? Would it be possible to me, to wretle in the WWE? Please answer me! Thank you very very much, João

Give me a clean finish over a DQ any day, looks like an easy way out. And as for the un-necessary signs, it also makes for uncomfortable viewing if there is a large distasteful sign in the cameras view at nearly every point during the show!! Keep up the good work JR!!! Love form across the pond!!! Becky xxx

Hey there J.R., Hope the holidays weren't as hard on your waistline as is it was on mine. Don't you think that wrestling is a little stale without the McMahons being on TV more. I don't know, but seeing Shane-O-Mac doing his shuffle, and jumping corner to corner was more entertaining that watching three 500 pound bodies labor through a match. Wasnt Steph being called a Slut over and over more entertaining that any Hornswaggle segment..... Wasnt Linda more entertaining- ughh....i stand corrected...lol Just wondering what your thoughts were, Kris

Happy new year, JR! Wanted to make mention of the Michaels vs. Kennedy match on Monday night and get your thoughts. I felt like the match was one of the best televised matches of the year. It's nice to see a higher profile match with an actual conclusion transpire once in a while and this was a perfect example. Live crowd seemed pretty hot for it as well. I think the Flair situation is captivating as well. It would be amazing to see it culminate in him winning the World title somehow even though he seems to be on the wrong program to do so. Do you see another title run or win in Flair's career? I dislike Randy Orton, perhaps by design, but I still think it would be great to see him have a long title reign. In an era where title reigns are very short, why do you suppose people want to see it change hands so frequently? To me the more frequent title reigns only detract from the importance of the title. Any thoughts? Lastly for me I want to comment on one of your new year thoughts about zero tolerance for e v e r y o n e. Brilliant! If only society and the pressure of producing great short movies each week on Raw were no longer relevant. I understand a little of how we got to this point...the same is true in all of sport and television. Image is part of that polished product we all enjoy so much. I have to mention that after watching the World Class DVD this past week, I think too much importance has been placed on image. None of those guys were very pretty, but most of them were verbally and athletically gifted. I would personally like to see wrestling go back to this but like the territorial days, this may all be too far gone. Do you think we will ever see a real throwback to classic wrestling such as this?

JR, As a wrestling fan, I have found it awkward at times to see wrestlers who never competed in the WWE (WWWF or WWF)be placed into the WWE HOF. While I appreciate the fact that someone does recognize them and their efforts,it just seem strange. I realize the bottom line is $ and since McMahon WWE) owns most of the classic wrestling video footage this is why....much of the HOF hoopla is simply a basis to sell merch, not to belittle recipients or their contributions-most really belong in a HOF somewhere, just not sure its the WWE. If one never ever worked for the company or set foot in one their rings, why should they exist in their HOF? -Your thoughts, since you are a WWE HOF alumni...?

Hi J.R I was watching this week's RAW and I noticed that during /Kennedy's entrance, King said something like"this man has his work cut out for him, he's just about to beat" and then he cut off. What was that about? Also, are there any possibilities of the Undertaker retiring after this year's wrestlemania? The toll on his body must be catching up wth him now. Has there been any talk of him retiring in the nearby future? Have a good 2008. Ishan

Hey JR, Happy New Year to you! I hope 2008 will be a good year for the WWE. I also hope 2008 brings you good health and good business for your restaurant. One match I really want to see in 2008 is The Boogeyman VS. The Undertaker. I know a few people that want to see those two feud as well. With the characters both men portray, that would be an excellent storyline fued. Cameron

Is it not a coincidence that HBK vs Cena on April 23rd 2007 was voted the greatest match in Raw history yet it didn't have any interferences, any steel chairs and featured someone who supposedly only does the same 5 moves. J.R. i know you don't like to pick favourites but surely that match is up there in recent history. Also i understand that Randy Orton and his wife are expecting their first child so please pass on a congratulations message.

Have you ever talked college football with Michael Cole and Mike Rotundo? Like them I have a degree from Syracuse University and have suffered during the years of Greg Robinson. I would prefer to send him back to the Longhorns so your Sooners can run all over his pourous defense but apparently we have at least one more year of him on the Hill.

I was wondering what your opinion of the people without any experience in either the pro wrestling profession or broadcasting is that give you "career advice" on your dealings with WWE. Personally, I feel as though it is more than a little disrespectful, and completely ridiculous that people completely unaware of the mechinations of WWE, and who have never met Vince McMahon would have any constructive advice for you. Have you seen any of the WWE developmental territories recently? My understanding is that they have signed some very good prospects recently, such as Colt Cabana, Matt Sydal, and Silas Young, among others.

Hi JR, Happy New Year, was great to see Matt Borne back as Doink, but do you have any idea why his evil Doink theme was not used instead of his happy music? The evil Doink character was a big favourite of mine and it seems a shame that when people think of Doink now, they just seem to think of the goofy clown rather than the disturbed version that Borne played so well. Using the evil theme perhaps would have brought back some credibility to the character and put it back in its 'evil roots'. What do you think? Carry on the great work, Matt & Baby Jacob

sup JR hope everythings good. i just kinda have a comment why is it that no one thinks the the Great Khali has no skiil i will admit he hasent shown much in hes time with wwe but i have seen him on the indys and he seemed to be alot better then many belive he showed enough for be to became one fo the few fans of his P.S what do you think of the trailblazers 13 game wining streak?

Hey, J.R.: First off, love the blog. I admit I haven't always been the biggest fan of your announcing work, though lately it's growing on me in a manner not unlike Shawn Michaels, JBL, and my waistline, which is fixing to swell like THE BLOOD AND THE POWER AND THE MIGHT OF THE WARRIAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH. I'm usually not much of an Internet Commentator, but I have a question that's been itching at me; what does it take to get a job doing what you do as an announcer? My current field of study (sociology) is chafing on me due to a lack of strength in field research, and at the same time I'm being told I have a fairly robust, distinctive voice, a personality oriented toward showmanship, and a talent for making other people's stories sound cool (in hobbies similar to e-fedding, if you're familiar at all with that term). I feel like psychologically I'm well suited to it, if nothing else, but there's gotta be more that it takes than that. I figure if there's someone who I could ask about that kind of work, it'd probably be one of the most experienced veterans of it. If you do indeed answer this question, thank you for your time, and thank you for helping Naitch/Haitch tonight be as epic as it was. Would that I'd been there live. Drew P.S.: Glad to see I'm not the only one who gets irritated when certain people with certain amazing concussion-oriented offenses and certain epic amounts of ring generalship get the Boring for playing to the strengths of their entire arsenal of moves.

JR, I just watched, again, the final match of 2007 - I have no doubt I will be rewinding the tape on this one for years to come. Though I'm only 34, there are too many days when I feel like an 'old-timer' watching with so many younger fans - who, bless their hearts for buying the tickets or tuning in, don't seem to realize the history of the business - so many little details keep flying right past them.. In this I have to sing my praises to you, sir - as yours is, in my opinion the finest voice to ever call a match. Phrases like "Double-A Spine Buster", "Harley Race Knee", or "Garvin Stomp" (though the last one doesn't get used so much anymore) are not lost on me. They take me back to a very special place and time in my life. My Dad passed in 2003, but among the memories I hold dear was the one time he agreed to take me to see a live wrestling event, in Pittsburgh, PA. It was a frigid December, but Dusty Rhodes faced off against Big Bubba Rogers in a steel cage to decide the Bunkhouse Stampede winner. My Dad did not like wrestling, He definitely did not understand why I enjoyed it so much - until that night. There was something magical about that era, at least to me. While I have only just begun to read through your blogs, I am surprised that there hasn't been mention of the current win-or-retire push that Flair has gotten. As a fan, as someone who can remember when Ric was only a 3-time Heavyweight Champion, I was surprised - literally on the edge of my feet the night he annouced, for the first time, "I Will NEVER Retire"... Yet, I believed, whole-heartedly, watching that night, as Randy Orton was freed from the figure four, that it was all-over for the Nature Boy. Typically, I watch Monday Night Raw with my mother - she tells the same story, to anyone who will listen about how her father, who worked as a railroad engineer had come home, sometime in the early 1950's with the first television set in the neighborhood, and how every Wednesday night, her folks would set up folding chairs in the living room so that 30 people from the block could cram together to watch wrestling on the old fishbowl-like screen.. That magic is still alive, today. I was sure Ric was going to take the fall in Charlotte, it seemed like the fitting location. As the match ended though, I can tell you we didn't need have furniture in the room, we were both on our feet. The second match-up, with Umaga didn't have near the same dramatic affect. Umaga's still young, I didn't see him being the chosen one. However, earlier, with all the hype, with the various video clips that were made available on WWE.com preceeding the event, I have to admit, I saw a passing of the torch moment coming... Obviously I don't know what these guys are like, off camera. I have watched your Legends program, On Demand (love them, by the way!!) hearing the remarks about different guys being, 'difficult', back stage, has often made me wonder. But for what I can tell, Triple-H seems to be one of that handfull of superstars who is just as deserving of respect for how he carries himself when no one's watching, as for the performer he is in the ring, when 'the world is watching'. I like (a lot!) the fact that when announcing Flair's matches, especially lately, both you and King have referred to him as either the best, or one of the best performers of all-time. There was an A&E special, a while back, which talked a lot about the Wrestlemania moment, when no one knew for sure if Andre was going to let Hogan get over, but ultimately, he did. I was never as much a Hogan fan, as I was a Dusty Rhodes fan - which has translated, strangely, into being a Nature Boy fan - something I NEVER thought I'd say... I HATED Ric Flair, circa 1985-87... With the burning fire of many suns, I HATED 'the man'... As I watched the final match of 2007, I truly thought I was going to bear witness to one of those moments, where Flair was going to put over Triple-H in a way.. Triple-H is well established enough, that he doesn't need to be put over, persay, but his in-ring persona, ...I could just see Ric 'letting' him be the one... I did NOT see that ending coming!!! Once again, not a butt in a seat in our living room - not a dry eye to be found, when the camera angle caught Triple-H saying the words, "You Are And Always Will Be The Man" - we couldn't hear it, but we all saw it. I see so much of Ric Flair's influence - this last episode of Raw 2007, was like a showcase - There were Several moments during the Kennedy/HBK match where I was screaming it, but you didn't hear me, obviously - that's ok, you and I are on the same page often enough... I found myself walking away from the TV, after finding the extended ending on WWE.com, thinking about the Toby Keith song, "As good as I once was"... Thinking, what a true statement about the Nature Boy, that is... He's not nearly as mobile and fluid as he once was. There have been more times than not when as a fan, it was almost painfull to watch him... But tonight, there was magic. He may not be as good as he once was - but he can be as good, once, as he Ever was. There really isn't a question in here. More of a Thank You. We all know that the final match in Flair's career is coming - even if the win or retire angle is dropped... But, as a fan, I'm grateful that he's being allowed to go out with what seems like dignity. He's Main-Eventing again, who saw that coming? So, I Thank You. Not just you, JR, but everyone involved - you know who they are, I don't, so if you could pass it around for me, I'd appreciate that, as well. THANKS!!! Buck

Hi JR! I just watched the first monday night Raw of 2008 & noticed that Mr McMahon called William Regal: Graham, why????

Hi Jim! Hope you had a nice christmas and a happy new year. I was wondering what happened to Bobby Lashley? Last I heard he had gotten hurt. But, I haven't heard him mentioned lately on RAW. Is he coming back? Just wondering. Thank you.
