Holiday Greetings, some points about different things from J.R. and LOTS MORE Bar-B-Q'ed Holiday Feedback for YOU!

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season and making wise decisions, as in not drinking and driving, and making sure that your seat belts are used for everyone in any vehicle you may be riding. Common sense is a good thing, even though I have been guilty MANY times of not using the aforementioned trait, including having one too many beverages to be driving a vehicle, for which I paid a price, and for rolling a pickup while not wearing a seat belt and being fortunate enough to live to tell about it.

Just a few random thoughts before we get to your comments:

  • I would like to see a few two out of three fall matches on TV this next year, as they seem to be TV friendly, as at the end of a fall the commercial break could naturally come along and upon the return to the action the next fall could commence.
  • Is it really necessary for some fans to yell “boring!” when wrestlers apply a pressure hold and actually attempt to focus on a specific body part of their opponents?
  • How many tables does it take these days to get the beloved and much adored adulation of a “Holy S*#@!” moment?
  • No... wrestling announcers are not utilizing the old school “play by play” these days to any large degree because that is not what they are instructed to do. The irony of this is that many of the announcers themselves are damned for such heinous actions, even though they are doing as instructed by their employers. As announcers, we have a job to do and are damned happy to be there doing it. So would many others, I assure you.
  • From where I sit, wrestlers do not have to be 6’2”/250 pounds to be stars in today’s marketplace, but what do I know?
  • College football bowl games are similar to wrestling championships... there are too many of them.
  • Why am I supposed to dislike a wrestling antagonist, the bad guy, if said individual makes me laugh more often than not?
  • At the end of the day, who do short matches on TV REALLY help? The winner? The loser? Or no one??
  • Why do some fans who obviously read a fair amount of the wrestling internet, feel compelled to create personally insulting signs to be displayed on TV? I can remember one such sign right after I came back from one of my bouts with Bells palsy that said, “J.R. Has Lost His Smile!” Nice...
  • I would rather see a wrestler, even if it were one of my favorites, lose by pinfall or submission ANY DAY, than by a lame disqualification or count out.
  • As a viewer, is it really necessary for wrestling announcers to yell at me for the duration of their broadcasts? I know I have been guilty of this and it is akin to crying wolf.
  • Does it seem that hot, personal issues are oftentimes more interesting than title bouts?
  • Why does it seem that so many longtime fans love WWE 24/7, even if they don’t watch the current product on a religious basis?
  • Do you think that if more fans would focus on the really important aspects of their lives, and not live and die by what they see on a wrestling show, that they would be better off? Just curious...
  • Why don’t more people know the difference between Bar-B-Q’ing and Grilling? It is huge! For those that want to know the difference, I explain it all in my book, “J.R.’s Cookbook.”
  • Did you know that our autographed copies of “J.R.’s Cookbook” are a wrestling story book essentially for men (there are TONS of my own personal wrestling business stories in it), plus some really great recipes too.
  • Are you as tired of hearing about the Mitchell Report regarding steroids in MLB as I am, and do you wish that there could be steps taken immediately to bring closure to the matter?
  • How about zero tolerance for everyone? I mean e v e r y o n e.
  • Why does the FDA even allow HGH to be sold for any reason other than what it was created to do, and that was to treat dwarfism?
  • With no blood tests normally allowed in the NFL for their players, thanks to their union, how many NFL players do you suspect might be gaining a competitive edge by using HGH?
  • Why do so many former NFL players who are now broadcasters look so much smaller than they did when they were playing? Did they all become vegans?
  • If I were to suspect that Barry Bonds is guilty of alleged improprieties and that Roger Clemens isn’t, does that make me sound like a racist?
  • Should I put away my wrestling territory soapbox considering the territory days will likely never return as they once were, even though the death of the territories has changed the business forever and arguably not for the better?
  • If New England doesn’t win the Super Bowl, will this magnificent 16-0 season that the Pats have had be for nothing?
  • Why am I supposed to emotionally invest in the NBA or the NHL this time of the year when they seemingly play the “never ending season”?
  • Who started this run away tattoo trend in sports and entertainment and why? I have no body art, but I have close family members who do, and I haven’t got a clue as to why. Does that make me an old fart?
  • Did you ever think of what some older ladies were going to look like when their tattoos are like 50 years old? That could be scary, much like J.R. modeling Speedo swimwear.
  • Is there any logical reason why some wrestlers of past generations that worked regularly should be in such financial peril as many seem to be?
  • Shouldn’t wrestlers be reminded that “Uncle Sam” is undefeated and never adheres to the “time honored tradition”?
  • When will fans understand that trying to get autographs at the arenas isn’t advantageous, but catching their favorites at the hotels or at some airports is much better?

I wonder if I will just for once be able to keep more than one of my New Year’s Resolutions in 2008? Damn I hope so.

Now on to your feedback... Bar-B-Q’ed style!

Hey Jim,
I’m a supporter of the new format of answering questions too. Thumbs up!
-- Jess Hutchy From Down Under

That’s better than middle finger up! Thanks Jess.

Hi JR,
I was wondering if you know what has become of the Cruiserweight Title since Hornswoggle was forced to abdicate it? Was him winning it in the first place just a way for the WWE to put an end to it? I have noticed that cruiserweights are now being used other ways.
- Bubba

It would seem that the Cruiserweight Title is not a priority, not that it ever was. I do not know the long term status, but my guess would be that it is in “hiatus” for now.

Hi J.R.,
I ordered my dad and brothers Christmas gifts from your mail order page. It came to them fast and no damage at all. They were thrilled and couldn’t believe it, as they read your blog all the time (Hi Dad and Bob and Chris!). I got my father the autographed bucket of JR’s goodies and he just loves it and put it on the TV. I helped him eat the jerkey. Man was that GOOD! The spicy one is pretty hot and spicy, too. And I hate to say this, but we just love your nuts!
Thanks - Dean in Philly

That’s great Dean. I’m glad everyone enjoyed the goods and hope everyone’s holidays were fun. And my nuts are winners for sure!

HI J.R
I AM A HUGE FAN OF U FROM KUWAIT AND I WOULD LIKE TO ASK U ABOUT WCW LIBRARY THAT WWE HAS. IT LOOKS LIKE WWE IS NOT USING MUCH OF IT IN THE 24-7 NOR ON DVD AND I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT I HAVE TRY YOUR Bar-B-Q SOUCE AND I LOVE IT. KEEP THE GOOD WORKING GOING.
- MESHARI |

I’m liking that we are selling Bar-B-Q Sauce in Kuwait and you have tried it! The WWE has so much material in their library that there is a ton of material that I am waiting on to see as well. My only suggestion is to be patient, as there is no doubt that it will all be utilized as some point.

Hi Jr, I have just read my hero Bret Hart’s book, and to say it is a must read is an understatement. He handled himself with grace and a great deal of dignity and despite his many, many tragedies and misfortune he came across as if he was in a happy place. He was complimentary to HBK never taking away that HBK was a great wrestler and an outstanding athlete, when he could have buried him. The saddest thing about this to me is Bret may feel his fans would disrespect him for being associated with WWE again. My answer would be ANY TRUE BRET HART fan just wants to see the greatest story teller , the top 5 best wrestler ever and a true icon in this business back in wrestling (to whatever capacity Bret could physically reach.) He would make a great trainer!!!!!!
- Andy Joyce (from the Uk)

Bret has so much to give the business. if he ever chooses to go that direction. I would think that having Bret Hart speak with young talents as they start their careers in the business would prove to be invaluable. Again, many fans forget Bret’s health issues and even though they are improving, I am happy to report; Bret still should not be in the ring attempting physicality.

Hi JR how s life treating you? I was just wondering if u know what the outcome of matches on raw/pap’s are going to be, or if u go out announcing unaware just to add to the realism? also how’s Droz?
- Mathew-leeds, England

Life is good, thanks. Droz is doing well, as I saw him the last time we were in Philly. He is still wheelchair bound, but he is mentally as sharp as ever. The less I know in advance about the matches I broadcast, the better.

Happy Holidays, J.R.! I’m thinking the comment about “Playboy Rick Flair” was actually regarding Buddy Landell who had the same look as Flair back in the day. I was wondering what your thoughts were on Brutus Beefcake, most newer fans don’t seem to care for him, while a lot of older ones have colorful memories of him and Valentine’s tag champ run, plus the Mania 3-era creation of “The Barber” character. Still hoping to see Savage again someday, too! Best wishes.
- Chris

I never knew of Buddy Landell working for the Bruiser. I’m thinking the individual in question might have been Playboy Buddy Rose, but it definitely wasn’t Ric Flair. Beefcake had sizzle and a great ally in Hogan. which did not hurt his status in the WWE. Did Beefcake ever draw any main event money anywhere but the WWE?

Hi J.R.
I just saw the following news item posted on one wrestling website that I thought you’d get a kick out of! It is Internet “reporting” at its finest!
“There has been talk of WWE inducting legendary announcer Gordon Solie into the hall of fame in recent years. Jim Ross has pushed the suggestion, but he seems to have lost his influence in that area.”
Anyway, I hope you had a great Christmas.
- LeeUK

I have endorsed Gordon Solie for the WWE Hall of Fame for years and while I have “some influence” with certain individuals in the company, I am extremely content to have less influence now, than I did when I was immersed in the corporate world and living in Connecticut. As are many internet theorists, this one is not totally accurate, but closer than some I have read.

Hello there Mr. Ross. On Christmas Eve I purchased the new Best of Raw 15th Anniversary set. It’s a really great DVD collection. I’m thrilled that the WWE put on these three discs many of my favorite Raw segments of all time. However when watching the first disc I discovered a gem of a match. It was taken from the July 11th Raw in 1994. The match was Bret Hart defending the WWF championship against the 1-2-3 Kid. I was pleasantly surprised at how good that match was. In my opinion it was even great. I was wondering if you recalled this match and had any thoughts on it.
- Johnathan

I remember broadcasting this match as it was when I was brought back to the WWE the second time, during the Federal Trial that Mr. McMahon was undergoing. It was a helluva wrestling match and took place in a small arena such as Bushkill, N.Y. or something like that. Bret helped put Waltman on the map and the result was an excellent wrestling contest. of which we see too few of these days on Monday nights.

JR, in my mind Jeff Hardy should be the WWE Champ and I’m glad the creative team is giving him a push and I hope he gets the title at the Royal Rumble, but I got a question about his future WWE Hall of Fame status. When Jeff was in TNA from 2004 to 2006, does is it going to affect him in the long run? In my eyes he is a future hall of famer despite what anyone says. P.S. His brother Matt also needs to be pushed for a title very soon after he recovers.
- Aero

I think it is ridiculously early to talk of Jeff hardy’s Hall of Fame status. Plus his WWE Title reign he seems anointed to have, hasn’t and may not even occur, as time alone will tell. This is a “cart before the horse” sort of thing. Perhaps we should let the scenario play out before Jeff is rushed into the HOF and crowned WWE Champion.

Happy Holidays JR!
First and foremost, as it’s my first time posting on your site, thank you for years of entertainment. I truly believe that your announcing makes and adds to the magic that WWE creates. I was so happy for you when you were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, because it was so obvious how much it meant for you.
The question I have to ask is this: how do you feel about the wrestling ‘media.’ I’m starting to get really annoyed with various wrestling magazines and websites for their depiction of wrestling, and of WWE in particular. In light of the tragic events of this year, these media outlets seem determined to undermine the good, solid entertainment that WWE provides. Instead, they focus on the ‘seedy side’ of wrestling that is ‘apparently’ so common today (COUGH COUGH). Why do you think that these people, who must love wrestling to work in these jobs, seem determined to bring it down? With the idiots in the American media already trying (and failing) to do this, wouldn’t you think they would offer the business support? Again, thanks for everything. You’re an inspiration dude.
- Rory

I definitely do not think that all the wrestling media are bad, by any stretch of the imagination. However there are some who seemingly feel compelled to focus on the negatives of the business and spend much less time on the good side while covering bad news or running with inane rumors, as if they were hard facts. I want to believe that most of these folks are wrestling fans, but frustrated because the creative content that they see weekly on TV isn’t their cup of tea. I can relate to that, in general. However, those in the wrestling media that are overtly negative are simply following the trend of the national media as our society is apparently more interested in bad news, the never ending coverage of tragedies, gossip, dirt, and scandal. I don’t blame anyone in the wrestling media for that, as this is a societal issue and as long as there is a market for it, people will continue to provide it. It’s akin to the TMZ TV show and their coverage of the dirt and gossip, which many people that I know enjoy. It seems to be working for them. When’s the last time a show from Nancy Grace, Hannity and Colmes, etc. focused their hour of TV on “good news”? If they did that, their all important ratings would die a natural death.

I have read many wrestling news items involving myself that I knew were wrong or grossly embellished, but that goes with the turf. I am oftentimes satirized or made fun of, on various websites or in newsletters, because of what I write here, as many people think I should be more harsh and caustic regarding my “day job.” Dying on the hill of “I don’t like the creative, so therefore I am going to quit in protest” would be about as stupid as the reporters or fans who suggest that I do such.

How’s it going J.R.? I was just wondering, why was there no Monday Night Raw scheduled in Oklahoma this year (‘07)? I’m a giant fan of yours and I’m sorry to say but an even bigger fan of the WWE taking advantage of being in O.K. and giving you a whoopin’. It’s not so much that I enjoy watching you get hurt (it’s still a big part of it), but I really get a kick out of you getting some in-ring air time.
- Cheo

Yeah, me too, Cleo, as I really enjoy getting in the ring and getting my ass kicked in my home town. It is truly a blast and I sincerely miss it. Nonetheless, I think Raw is back in OKC on Monday June 30, the last I heard, but that’s not official.

J.R. - what are the chances of eventually seeing The Fallen Angel, Christopher Daniels in the WWE since he is no longer with T N A wrestling?
- charles bessett

That would be a talent relations or creative question , Charles. Nonetheless Daniels is a uniquely talented wrestler.

Hey there JR;
I was wondering if you have any idea as to why none of the contestants in the 2007 Diva Search (except for the winner Eve) have received WWE contracts. This year seems to be the first where only the winner appears to be sticking around.. Considering Candice Michelle did not even make the top 8 in the first ever diva search do you think any of the divas from this year’s contest will get an opportunity like she did?
Cheers, Keep up the good work!!
- Josh A

You have just spent infinitely more time thinking about the Diva Search than I have this entire year.

Hi J.R.,
Have u seen the pictures of paul bearer on his website where hes lost loads of weight? He looks really different, and have u heard the jim ross rap that is on youtube?
- matt

The WWE funded Paul’s surgery a few years back, and I truly believe that the weight loss helped save PB’s life. The artist formerly known as Percy Pringle was a great manager prior to coming to the WWE as many long term fans remember. Percy, Michael Hayes, and Robert Gibson all grew up in the Pensacola area and were life long fans of wrestling. Yes, I have seen the “rap” on YouTube, as have my kids, as they mentioned it during the holidays and they thought it was funny as well. I wish I had that much “free time,” but one has to consider it all in fun.

J.R.,
Why does the Great Khali have a job with WWE when he clearly can’t work? Seriously what is your opinion of the guy and why he’s employed, does WWE still think after two years that he can refine his skills, or is it just because Vince has a thing for big men?
- Matt

The Great Khali is an “attraction” at 7’3”/420 pounds, but there is no doubt that an argument could be made that Khali has been over exposed on TV. But at the end of the day, is the fact that Khali is employed and earning a living to provide for his family that big of an issue?

Hello, JR!
Does any of the WWE Superstars have any form of contact on the internet so fans can write to them?
Thanks, Liam

In our WWE Links list, there is a link to click to leave messages for WWE talent.
Here it is: Contact a Superstar »

Jr, I would like to point out that Christopher Daniels is still with TNA and that him being fired is just a storyline (I guess the internet "facts" probably say otherwise l0l) I would like to know if you think that the Tag titles should be unified in order to help rebuild the tag team division to what it once was? Keep up the good work and have a happy New year.

Happy New Year Mr. Ross ! I noticed your comment on how some fans watch WWE24/7 but not the current product, and I guess I fall in a similar category. I struggle to watch the programs today, but rush out to buy the career retrospective DVD's as soon as they come out. I guess I long for the Old days when you got less talk and more rock (actual matches). The simple fact is today's shows don't feature as many solid veteran wrestlers or talented Superstars. My favorite times in wrestling have always been when the/a title picture has been red hot. Remember WWE in 96/97? At that time you had Shaun Michaels, Undertaker, Steve Austin, Bret Hart, Sid & Vader all over the Title picture, which made for a great variety of title matches. The 80's NWA was great because because there were always about a dozen true contenders for Flair to have classics with. Personally, I dont think theres enough depth to have 2 world titles and a brand extention , and neither world title has the same prestige in my opinion. Another great era in wrestling was the cruiserweights in the late 90's wcw. Why? Because there were a dozen legit threats to the belt which made for so many great combos of match ups. I love classic wrestling but dont much go for the show today. Does that make me a bad fan? How would you try to win me back as a fan of todays product? If WWE 24/7 is so popular does that prove that there is a market for "old time" 'rasslin, and can the product still change to appeal to us traditionalists?

Hey JR. I can't wait for WrestleMania, I hope its amazing this year like all the other WrestleMania's and hope the winner of the Royal Rumble gets a Main Event Title Match instead of what happened last year (Taker wins the Rumble but is wrestling his title match mid-card)! Speaking of WrestleMania, Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky was photographed by a Swedish newspaper for an interview this past Sunday, wearing a t-shirt with the WWE WrestleMania logo and the slogan "Destruction in The Desert." The shirt indicates that WWE will hold it's 2010 WrestleMania in Phoenix, Arizona. Gretzky does have strong ties to Phoenix, as he is part owner and head coach of the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes. Do you know if this is true? P.S. Love Your Nuts! :P Samuel

Hi J.R. What are your Opinions on the WWE since the Attitude Era ended in 2002? And What do you know about Bobby Heenan's surgury, and I heard that they had to put Bobby in a comma, is he out of the comma now? Kyle From Wisconsin

JR- Wouldn't it be cool if Gloria Gaynor sang "I Will Survive" at a future Royal Rumble or Surviver Series? It might just be an Aretha Franklin Wrestlemania 3 moment. All the Best, Joseph

Do you you beleive the WWE would benefit from moving away from monthly pay per views to perhaps one every six weeks as this would give everyone involved more time to develop more involving storylines. As it stands i feel that too many angles or stories as i've always preferred to call them are rushed and are ultimately unsatisfying

JR has there ever been a match that one wrestler was suppose to win but because that wrestler got hurt an could not go on the other wrestler won? Looking forward to OK and WV game!!!

While I'm a fan of clean finishes as well, you have to admit you see a lot more of them now than ten years or so ago.

JR, many wrestling news sites are reporting that the WWE DVD release calendar for 2008 includes both a Macho Man & a Sting DVD set...while DVD sets for both legendary performers have been long been requested by fans, these possible additions to the WWE DVD library seem to be dubious choices for obvious reasons, considering WWE's usual policy regarding such matters. can you confirm that WWE Home Video actually has these as part of their schedule? thanks JR.

I just want to wish you a Happy New Year for 2008 and the last ever RAW show for 2007 had kept me more entertained than the party; it didn't go well as I thought, so I went home and watched RAW. I'm pleased it cheered me up. :)

hey JR: i hear soft rumors that austin will wrestle hogan at WM 24 but the only thing standing in the way is hogan! of course you gotta love those internet rumors

Will there ever be a pay-per-view event that will be free and on USA or CW. I remember the old Clash of the Champions and I remember all the PPV quality matches they had. I think it would be nice if the WWE would do something like that annual event that WCW had until they got rid of it.

Jr I have been reading your blog for Several Years, Even when you took a break I was sad that I didnt get to read your report. I think the people who make signs making fun or people who have any kind of disablity are exactly that Disabled in the head for doing something so stupid instead of thanking God they are normal! I think you are a great writter and Commentartor as well as Jerry Lawler and I hope yall dont leave wwe agian, becuase that was some boring Commentary when nethier one of you were around. Happy New Year Jr!!!

JR, Thanks for responding to a few of my previous posts. My Question this week is about books in wrestling. I have a read a few of them, Mick Foley, Jerry Lawler, and Eric Bischoff. I plan to get Bret Hart's and Chris Jericho's book. The one thing that all those guys have in common is that they paid thier dues to the business before they wrote a book. I kinda think it may have been a little early for Batista to write his book, I do hear it's a good read however, so when do you think the next industry icon with some miles on them will write a book, like you or Vince McMahon?

Love the blog, JR, but I have to difer with one of your comments about "Uncle Sam" being undefeated. As members of the family continually remind us, Vince McMahon beat him cleanly. Happy New Year!

JR, your mention of the testing policy in MLB got me thinking. If you're able to comment on this, what are your feelings about the WWE wellness policy? Personally, and I'm sure a lot of fans agree, it seems like a joke. I don't want to mention names, but there are a lot of guys with WWE that seem to be on steroids, or at least HGH as mentioned with MLB/NFL. There are several wrestlers that haven't been punished that I refuse to believe are not using something like that. Do you feel like it's effective? And are there any tweaks to the policy that you'd like to see? Thanks JR, Trent, Pensacola FL

How's it going JR, hope you had a great holiday season, and im also wondering if you heard any update of Gregory Helms' return to the ring, and im pretty sure that's the last thing on his mind, since his mom passed away, whether you respond to this or not, give my best wishes to Gregory Helms

JR; My question from last time was... : I was wondering if you have any idea as to why none of the contestants in the 2007 Diva Search (except for the winner Eve) have received WWE contracts. This year seems to be the first where only the winner appears to be sticking around.. Considering Candice Michelle did not even make the top 8 in the first ever diva search do you think any of the divas from this year’s contest will get an opportunity like she did? Cheers, Keep up the good work!! And your answer... "You have just spent infinitely more time thinking about the Diva Search than I have this entire year." Well thanks JR, I appriciate your honesty but also am a little bit confused. You would think someone in the wrestling buisness for so long would have more respect for its fans and more passion about its programming, whether it be the Diva Search or whatever else the WWE decides to showcase. Womens wrestling is huge no matter how much you decide you are going to think about it. TNA gets their highest ratings when the women are featured... perhaps because the people in that company ARE willing to think. Your former fan, Josh

Dear JR I have written to you before and always enjoy your candid and honest answers. I wish you a very Happy New Year and that your business grows stronger in the next year. I have two questions. One you may not wish to answer as I understand it could be construed as prying into wrestlers personal lives. I was just wondering if you had ever come across an epileptic wrestler before Mr Ross. I have never heard of it before but after looking into how many epileptics there were in the entertainment industry i was wondering how many if any were in wrestling at some point. Second is that I know you no longer have the time to watch wrestling tapes from all over the world and that you no longer represent WWE in a talent relations or scout role but i was wondering if over the years you were in the job if you ever saw any of Doug Williams te UK wrestlers work and what you thought of what you saw as he is one of my favorite wrestlers. Thank you for all the entertainment every monday night, my gf loves you and the king it just isn' the same without your commentary. Chris Squire

Hello JR, Happy New Year to you and yours. I have been a wrestling fan for over 50 years and I must say you and Jerry are the Number 2 best announcers in wrestling. Number 1 being the late Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan. I have a question I am so anxious to ask you, but I am not sure you could give me an unbiased answer, and maybe cause you problems with your job. So I will ask another one instead. Why does your boss treat wrestling fans as if we are totally stupid? For example: every real wrestling fan in the world knows that HHH is married to Stephanie-so why does VKM act as if we do not know this? HAve a great New Year Jr *** from the editor: VKM and Steph and HHH are portraying characters on a popular entertainment television program. It is not real life. Even in the old days of wrestling, fans needed to "suspend their disbelief" to best enjoy an angle. ***

Hey J.R I was wondering on your opinion on something. Last year, John Cena had the title for a large portion of the year (A VERY large portion) I'm not bashing Cena, but I would like to know whether or not you think long title reigns are good for the business. Or, if there should be shorter reigns overall. I'm split on the issue myself.

JR, will the Dynamite Kid ever be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame? I think he's well overdue... On the same note, what about Davey Boy Smith? Perhaps a British Bulldogs tag induction? Jason

I rewatched the Tribute to the Troops special that the WWE featured and I so wish you had been the one to call the action. Considering where they were and what Jerry Lawler said about Randy Orton "getting shot at from both sides", that had to be one of the lowest comments I have heard in my life. I lost absolutely all the respect I had for Lawler after he said that. I don't care if he likes Orton or not, there are just some things such as that that do not need to be said. Since his puppy loving self was sitting over here in a studio and calling taped action, how would he have felt if he had gotten up the next day and found out that not only Orton but some of the other stars as well had been involved in the line of enemy fire. I did not like that comment and either you or Vince McMahon needs to tell him to be more discreet in what he says. I can only imagine how Randy Orton, his wife, mother and father felt when they were watching that and heard that comment.

Hi JR, firstly, best wishes for 2008! Now that the WWE doesn't seem to be focusing on the cruiserweight belt, which of WWE's crusierweights do you see getting a serious push? loving the way Jamie Noble is being used at the moment. Also, the women's division seems to have picked up since Beth got the belt. Of all the current Divas, across all 3 brands, who do you think has the right in ring skills and ability to truely challenge "The Glamazon"?

How's it goin J.R., I wanted to know if you could shed some light on why the WWE seems to hate me. Allright, maybe they don't hate me, but it seems like they always go in a different direction in which I would like. They never push the guys that I think should be pushed (namely Kane) and the shows are up and down every week. One week it could be one of the best shows of the year and the next week will be the worst I have seen in years. Sometimes I consider giving up watching altogether, but how could I give up something I have been so passionate about for so long. So instead, I keep waiting for a real saviour of wrestling,(and obviously Y2J wasn't it). Neither are Cena, Orton(who has become a nice surprise to me lately), Kennedy, Lashley, or anyone else currently expected to be in the company for the forseeable future. I will have to keep waiting for the next guy who undeniably will be able to carry the company (like a Stone Cold, a Hogan, or dare I say, even a Brock Lesnar).

HI JR JUST WANTED TO WISH YOU N JERRY ALL THE BEST FOR A HEALTHY N HAPPY NEW YEAR AND ALL THE BEST IN 2008.. I AM A HUGE FAN OF RAW AND WATCH IT EVERY WEEK.. ARE THERE ANY PLANS FOR RAW TO BE IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA IN THE COMING YEAR.. I LIVE IN THE "OC" AND WUD TRY TO ATTEND IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN..

Jr happy new year, i just recently watched a shoot interview with brian armstrong, and he talks about The rock being big headed and arrogant. Did you eve experience this with him?

I am very pleased with the fact that various websites are announcing a DVD entitled Randy Savage: Macho Madness is being released by WWE on 11/18/08. It is about time that Macho gets his respect. Do you think Savage will be involved in production?

Hi JR! Hope you had a great holiday and a happy New Year! I agree with you 100% on the annoying trend of chanting "Boring" whenever someone isn't using a steel chair or something. My favorite matches to watch growing up were the many classics between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Mr. Kennedy and HBK put on a great technical display in their match on the last PPV, which was very refreshing. Do you think the landscape of wrestling has changed to the point that something like the 60 minute Iron Man match where the two wrestlers simply wrestle for an hour couldn't happen? If you could schedule that match, which two of todays stars would you like to see in it? Thanks!

JR It is nice to be giving you a holler jr you and jerry lawler are a great team as well, but to get to what i am writing about is the fact that they need to go back to the old style . from the 70`s and 80`s because this wrestling now is not working, to much bull crap going on. and i am pretty sure i am talking for alot of people out there, now dont get me wrong i have been a avid wrestling fan for 36 or 37 years now and i have not miss to much in that time period i go to all the shows when they are in St. Louis you all need to go back to the days of the 4 horsemen freebirds harlem heat, road warriors etc. I think you know what i am saying and i know you cannot replace the ric flairs the anderson rhodes but you can get close and i think the big boys in the business would see a big, big,big change in there rating and you would get back alot of the (OLD SCHOOL FANS) thanks for taking the time to read this and i hope this gets posted so i would know that you all do care what the avid fans know and love about wrestling P.S AGAING THANK YOU ROGER STROUP

Opinions on Ring of Honor? I'm assuming you've watched their product since you need to always keep you eyes open for new stars, and with the recent amount of "R-O-H" chants when (CM) Punk comes out, I was just curious if you had an opinion. Thanks a bunch and keep up the good work.

JR Thanks for all you do. Quick question, if a fan wanted to arrange to do something for the wrestlers when they are in his area, how does one accomplish that. For example, a round of drinks or a meal after the show at a local restaurant. Thanks,

Hey JR hows it going? Anyways, I've been reading your blogs for a while now and I love them, so thank you for offering your often interesting opinion. Anyways, I've got a question, is it just me or is the crowd dead almost all the time or does it just come out that way on television? Years back, around 2002 I'd say the crowd used to be loud, but after that year it has been progressively been getting quieter and quieter. Even the most popular superstars aren't getting much of a pop. Is it because the WWE has become bland now a days? Is it to predictable? That's another thing, what the hell is the creative team thinking putting all these useless short matches and useless time consuming skits? I wish after all the TV contracts ran out they would move everyone to RAW and cut all the dead weight. Well that's all I have to say, thanks JR! -Ricky

Hi JR,Hope everthing is good.JR I was wondering what your take on this is.Do you think that WWE tv has hurt the indies across America? It seems that most local sponcers don't want anything to do with the wrestling business.Saying that they don't won't to be a part of that crap.I love this business and won't to make a run in and around the N.E.Teaxas and S.W. Arkansas area. Thanks

Dear J.R., Do you have any recollections of favorite memories of beloved wrestling attraction Andre The Giant? Sincerely, Bert H.

JR, I was wondering if you know what happened to Paul Wight (a.k.a. The big Show, The Giant), after he lost the belt to Bobby Lashley, He became a no show. Could you look into that for me.

J.R., Regarding your "Random Thought" of getting off your "territorial soapbox"....PLEASE DON'T!!!! I think I can safely speak for all of us "old school" fans when I say that one of my favorite parts of this blog is when you talk about the bygone territory era and it's stars who never quite made it to (or became big stars in) the WWE/WWF/WWWF. Some of us out here remember the territories quite well and I think we'll never forget the thrill of seeing a guy from WCCW (Kerry Von Erich, Rick Rude), Stampede (Owen Hart, Benoit) or Memphis (Sid Vicious/Justice/Syco etc.) and so many others finally pop up on one of the Big 2. A lot of these men I knew about only from "Pro Wrestling This Week" and/or Pro Wrestling Illustrated (the Bible, back in the day) but it was still quite a thrill. So, NO. DO NOT GET OFF THE TERRITORIAL SOAPBOX! Many of us out here miss those days very, very much as well. And a two-part question for you, sir: Do you feel that Koko B. Ware is historically underrated due to his kid-friendly "Birdman" gimmick? He was a fairly revolutionary high-flier back in the day and, for a relatively short guy, his dropkick was extraordinary. Part two: Am I crazy or wasn't there a huge Memphis barbed wire match between Koko and Jerry Lawler back in the early to mid 80's? I swear I can remember seeing pictures of it in PWI and Koko was in the bloodthirsty, vicious heel role. Is this just a figment of my imagination? I can't confirm it because my old PWIs were (regrettably) thrown out many years ago. Best holiday wishes to you and yours from my wife and me, Jeremy

hi JR i read a comment by batista saying he hates working with the great khali and after years of watching wwe i ave to say hes the most clumsy wrestler ive seen surely its only a matter of time before he injures a fellow professional my question is what is your personal opinion of him as your well known for liking real wrestlers such as Bret hart and Chris Benoit!! i feel the same about Mark Henry and Big flabby v surely these are not the future of the wwe! also u always talk about sports as I'm from England we don't watch American football i was just wondering if u watch soccer? (i hate that Americans call it soccer) its huge in the UK but doesn't seem to be that big in the states even though David Beckham seems to think he can change it all by himself!! thanks for the great work without you the raw brand wouldn't be the same! happy new year

Hey JR. In an attempt to give you a break from all the Hall of Fame, Macho Man, and "when is the WWE coming to my town" questions, I thought I'd ask you a simple "in fun" question. I'm an aspiring graphic designer so I'm probably one of the very few people who actually pay attention to this kind of thing, but, just for fun, what's your favorite WWE/WWF logo from years gone past? The classic logo? http://www.netone.co.il/logosempire/tv/slides/wwf18.jpg The New Generation "boxed" logo? http://www.netone.co.il/logosempire/tv/slides/wwf16.jpg The Attitude Era "scratch" logo? http://www.netone.co.il/logosempire/tv/slides/wwf10.jpg Or the current WWE "Get the 'F' Out" logo? http://www.netone.co.il/logosempire/tv/slides/wwe01.jpg

Hi JR, I hope you and your family had a great christmas. I got a question regarding Wrestlemania and the national anthem. Who would you like to see(or hear) sing the national anthem? I thought about it and figured out the biggest name in music in the last 30 years should be Michael Jackson. Could you imagine him singing the anthem? Or who would you like singing it? Much love and respect from Germany. I wish you a great year 2008. Thorsten

Hi Mr. Ross! I want to tell you that I've been watching you call RAW for the last five years (not as long as some of the other fans, but none-the-less), and I have a question that I'm sure you've been asked before! In all your experience on RAW, and in WWE, can you tell me what your favorite women's title match was to call? I know this may require some thought, but I think it would be interesting to hear haha. What did you like about it? When was it? Will it ever happen again? Thank you, and I mean "Thank You" for more than one reason. Thank you for coming into my home each and every Monday Night and making me laugh (sometimes you and Mr. Lawler make me roll, cry (from laughing too hard?), and damn you for making me anxious to see RAW each and every week in order to hear your heartwarming welcome to Monday Night RAW! Have a great 2008! God Bless!!! Michael

JR, do you think the rock would make a good replasement for JBL on smackdown? And if it was vacated, would you go for the GM position?

JR - Good luck to your Sooners in their upcoming tilt! I imagine that wrestlers of past generations find themselves in financial peril for the similar reasons that boxers like Jerry Quarry die penniless and tragically. There's no union to set up a pension, very few, I imagine retain agents to invest their money for them while they are actively earning, as independent contractors they probably don't have access to easy-to-use investment vehicles like 401 (K)s even when employed by the big leagues and most importantly, their sense of invincibility makes it seem inconceivable to them that there will ever be a time when they can't perform at a level to maintain their lifestyles. In an industry based on being strong and fitter than the next, who wants to contemplate a future when you can't go all night long? I think boxers and wrestlers seem to live, to a greater or lesser extent, The Nature Boy character - carpe diem. And grabbing life by the juevos usually doesn't mean envisioning retirement and diversifying your portfolio, unless that means adding a blond to the redhead and brunette. Part of WWE wellness for its talent could be in preparing its workers for the life beyond the ring that the young lion can't see while it still is hunting strong. Giving them stock options instead of all-cash payoffs, I don't know. It's frankly against the WWE's interest to have unionized wrestlers, and yet, a strong union would solve the problem that is indeed troubling to me as a wrestling and boxing fan. I'm a huge fan of both sports and I wonder -- are the Jerry Quarries, Wilfredo Benitez' of the boxing world, and the Dynamite Kid of wrestling and others -- do I, and everyone make a dark deal when we sign on knowing that a lot of the performers we love today may end up in the poorhouse down the road? I guess its that way with all sports -- I make the deal to root for the Mets knowing that some of them may be killing themselves with steroids in the name of the game. Happy New Year, sir.

Hell no, you shouldn't put away the territorial wrestling soapbox. You're the only mainstream voice for those of us who miss the "good old days" of territorial professional wrestling who can reminisce without burying the product it has evolved into. How about "Iron" Mike Sharpe for the 2008 WWE Hall of Fame?

Hey JR. First, I would like to say A HUGE THANK YOU for everything that you do. To many, like myself, you are the voice of wrestling. I do, also, sympathize with those who are not the biggest fans of some of the storylines that are used right now. Are there thing that I think could be worked on? Yes, but thats with everything in life and you have to deal with it. I have many things I like to ask you, but I'll get to the one I've been thinking about for awhile. I agree with you about the territories, as I have grown up in East Tennessee with Smokey Mountain Wrestling. We now have this new independent promotion called UWA. They have some vets, some would say legends, like Tom Prichard and Bobby Eaton on the staff. My question is do you think the smaller companies would be better off if they could get vets of the ring to come by and give the rookies some pointers? Maybe teach the sometimes forgotten art of story telling? Just a few thoughts. Thanks you are the man. Stephen

JR why does RAW still show HEAT but SmackDown doesn't show Velocity?

Hey J.R, I just ordered some jerky and sauce from the site and am anxious to try it. I wish I had ordered sooner (no pun intended) so I could have had some great J.R's ribs at my New Years Eve party. Anyway, I was just on youtube watching the moment when ECW entered the equation of the 2001 Invasion storyline. That moment when RVD, Dreamer and the rest of the old ECW guys did the "slow turn" towards Kane and Y2J was simply fantastic. It was so unexpected. Even as a long time fan, when I realized that all those guys in the ring were all ex ECW guys I remember getting goosebumps. And I got goosebumps all over again watching it tonight. Heyman's promo was emotionally charged and fantastic. What was your view of that moment? The crowd was whipped up into a frenzy that night and I really feel like the WWE dropped the ball by merging ECW with WCW later that night.

Hey JR, Long time fan of yours. Love watching raw every week and hearing you and the king call the action. Do you think Jeff Hardy is capable of being wwe champion and handling the pressure that comes with it?

Hi JR. I was wondering if another draft was being considered after Wrestlemania. I'd like to see a guy like CM Punk moved to RAW or Smackdown. It seems to me, ECW has a roster full of guys with potential who haven't connected with the crowd yet. With Punk being so much more over than the rest of the ECW roster, it seems he can do no more than stay stagnant with no equal foil character to fued with. I think a move to a more established show with more established performers is well deserved.

Hey JR. I just wanted to know if it ever kinda bums you out to think about how the business used to be. 20 years ago I'd never be talking to you like this. The fans never knew the carni language and the wrestlers never broke kaefabe. In a way, I wish I didnt know the things I know about wrestling. It's like finding out theres no santa, the fun is taken away, but at least you know the truth. Wish wrestling could go back to Muskogee, in a manner of speaking. I think I'd like to trade in the truth for my ignorance.
