Happy New Year Everyone! Lots of Feedback Answered Today… Life Goes On… and So Does Work…

Happy New Year everybody and thanks to all who have sent birthday wishes our way. For the record, I was born on January 3, 1952 in Fort Bragg, California. That makes me 56 years of age NOT 63 as was erroneously reported on wwe.com this week and may still be on the Raw site at wwe.com.

The Mrs. And I had a blast spending New year’s Eve in Arizona with the OU team and staff as I flew to the desert from North Carolina on Sunday where we produced the final episode of Monday Night Raw on Saturday December 29. The Fiesta Bowl did not create the results that I wanted, but all the credit in the world has to go to West Virginia University who simply played harder and wanted the game more than my Sooners. Case closed. End of story. I am happy that veteran coach Bill Stewart got the head coach’s job at WVU, as the Mountaineers return a ton of good players who will most likely win the Big East again in 2008.

As always, I remain loyal to my young Oklahoma team as an 11-win season including winning the Big 12 Title isn’t a bad year and of course as my friend The King says, “one can’t grieve forever”. Life goes on and so does work as I leave again Sunday on a flight to Hartford, Ct. which will then take me to the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino where Monday night Raw will go live featuring “Raw Roulette” and hopefully no more Big Dick Johnson interacting with yours truly. I smelled like the town drunk after my suit was drenched in cheap champagne and you can image what it smelled like when I unpacked in a few hours later in Arizona.

While in Arizona I had a nice “sit down” with a cold beverage with Eric Bischoff, who is doing well and staying busy with a variety of projects, many that have great potential and were personally intriguing to me. I can tell you that there are worse places a guy can live than Scottsdale, Arizona!

Now, on to your feedback:

Hi JR,
I just received my order of beef jerky! First off I consider myself to be a major fan of jerky. With that said I think that your beef jerky is the best I’ve ever had!
I am not trying to suck up in any way. For the longest time, my favorite was a local brand called Enjoy™ which was made locally in Fontana, Ca.
I had my mother try some of the Championship Original, and she loves it as well. Mind you, she grew up on a farm and used to make her own, she is very picky on the jerky she will eat. She has instructed me to “stock up” on these. I have now tried all 4 flavors and my favorite is the Slobber-Knocker Heat. It dances on my tongue with its array of flavors!

I will be ordering more! Sorry for such a long post, but I am excited to finally have access to REAL JERKY, not that Slim Jim stuff (is that even really meat in those things?)
Peace out!
– Brandon

Thanks Brandon, and I am pleased you like our J.R.’s Beef Jerky, which is one of our very best sellers and is a healthy snack with little fat and no carbs. I invite anyone who hasn’t tried our Jerky to give it a shot.

Hey J.R.,
Great job on the blog as usual. I just wanted to ask you if beef jerky would be good for people like me who prefer their meat juicy and not dry. Also, do you rub barbecue sauce on your nipples when you get excited? Boomer Sooner!
Thanks, I.C.

You need professional help I.C., and I suggest you seek it soon.

J.R,
Just to let you know, I bought the Shawn Michaels DVD and found it to be one of the best out there. I am looking forward to Stone Cold’s DVD, as well as The RAW 15th anniversary DVD. I’ll tell you what I’d love to see, and that would be a DVD of matches Gorilla Monsoon & Bobby Heenan called together as they, next to you and The King, were the best announce team in WWE history.
I suppose you also heard a Sooners/Hokies bowl matchup was kiboshed by the BCS committee I would love to see some kind of playoff I really think Hawaii got jobbed. what do you think?.Merry Christmas to you and your family J.R
– Dan

The Brain and Gorilla were hugely entertaining and two, talented men who I loved to listen to. It only makes sense that some of their funniest and most entertaining stuff will be repurposed as time goes on. I have not heard much about the content of the Austin DVD, but there is a ton of material that could be utilized. Yes, college football needs a playoff system without question and, no, I felt like Hawaii got a great BCS Bowl game vs. Georgia and came out smelling like a lei. I don’t know that Hawaii is as good as Boise State was last year, if that’s what you are getting at. but I am a June Jones fan.

Hey JR,
How are you? I was wondering which color commentator would you like to have as a partner, with the exception of The King? I am talking of a dream color commentator that you have never worked with or you have occasionally.
– Cheers. Waja

I will give this some thought and get back to you, oh, in say a year. Seriously, this one requires some serious thought and I am trying to do less serious thinking these days. However, the work I did with Jim Cornette was a ton of fun and he would be great to work with again plus the volatile and oftentimes unpredictable Paul Heyman always kept things interesting to say the least. Michael Hayes was good on the mic too, as fans of our work with the UWF might attest. And I did a lot of WCW PPV’s with the American Dream that were fun. As a reminder only, we are still selling our autographed copies of “J.R.’s Cookbook” and in the cookbook we have a ton of stories about this very subject and others including many top-ten lists about my favorite wrestling teams, broadcasters, cities to visit, cities for catering, etc. Those books are available in our online store.

Good ol’ J.R.!
Remember the good old days of crazy gimmicks? Do you think the WWE will start using them again? If not, why doesn’t the WWE make each and every superstar DIFFERENT!! Yeah Batista, Triple H, and Bobby Lashley are recognizable but they are all kind of the same character if you know what I mean. They are just B.A.’s with big muscles. Ex. you could have Lashley with his military background as a gimmick or Batista like the “REAL” Ultimate Warrior. What do you think?
– James B.

Too many gimmicks will spoil the “soup” every time. I am not in favor of the wrestling rosters resembling a circus troop.

JR - Why hasn’t the WWE established a secondary title in ECW? Maybe a special title that can change hands on a DQ or count out? Maybe a Television Title that would be defended every week on TV.
– Artez Collins

Don’t know the answer, but why does wrestling need MORE titles?

And, what is the status of Paul Heyman? He is one the best and innovative writers of his day. Is he being used in that way or is he still being paid to sit at home to prevent him from going to TNA?
– Thanks, Artez Collins

Paul is working/writing/creating a variety of entertainment projects, none of which have anything to do with wrestling. I don’t know where the story got started that Heyman was being paid to sit at home, but I don’t think that one hold’s water… in other words I don’t believe that one to be true, but it makes for a nice slice of rasslin’ gossip. However, I will not deny that Happy Heyman isn’t a brilliant mind when it comes to wrestling.

Hi Jim,
Maybe you can help with a little memory lane WWE history for me. About 20 years back one of the matches that got me hooked was on regular weekly TV, I think SNME. It featured Randy Savage and I think Ricky Steamboat (not sure). However the highlight for me was when Savage hurt his ankle, whether a work or not, he sold it incredibly well. So much so he took his boot off in the middle of the match and continued.

Any ideas on this match e.g. The opponent, whether it was a work or not? I know you were not with WWE then, so am taking a chance on that one. So let me finish by a follow up…

Today many stars do not seem to sell a move too much, at least in my opinion. One gets a slam or so, and after 3 seconds of selling they could be up as if nothing happened. I always enjoyed a match where an opponent works on someone’s body part, and around a story. Bret Hart was great at this as was Steamboat. Today I do not see so much of this. What do you think?
All the best
– Dave

We don’t see too many Barry Sanders or Jim Browns running the football these days in the NFL either, with the point being that Savage and Steamboat were special talents inside the ring that understood ring psychology and had the physical gifts to execute, were both products of the territory system, and when they arrived in the WWE. they were both experienced and highly skilled performers. Isolating and then debilitating an opponent’s body part still works when it is executed properly, but many young fans had rather watch two wrestlers crash and burn or get caught up in “sick” maneuvers to allow wrestlers to actually wrestle. The lovely “boring” chants are the kiss of death for many wrestles, who then panic and speed things up just to quell the verbal uprising they are experiencing.

JR,
Thanks for the many years of entertainment behind the mic that you have provided. I fondly recall the days of Mid-South wrestling and your being a big part of it!
– Bill

Mid South Wrestling still has many fans and I know that any success I have been lucky enough to attain would not have been possible without having those unique experiences and sitting under Cowboy Bill Watts and Ernie Ladd’s learning tree. Arguably at one point Mid South Wrestling was the best one hour wrestling show on television. I wish we could see more drama, athleticism and reality based issues on today’s wrestling TV shows.

Hey JR,
When does the WWE plan on coming back to Oklahoma City? I know we had a power outage during Raw last time, but that doesn’t mean that you can leave us hanging for 1 1/2 years!
– Kyle

“You can leave us hanging…”? Excuse me, Kyle, but when did I get the job of booking buildings for the WWE? I am not involved in that area in any way. The NBA Hornets’ schedule is the biggest reason the WWE hasn’t been back to OKC. I would love for the WWE to come to OKC because it eliminates a plane flight for me. Sources say, that’s internet jargon, that the WWE will return to OKC right after the PPV in June in Dallas. I had forgotten about the power outage.

Hey Mr. Ross:
I have a question for you, if you do not mind answering. While Mr. McMahon and the staff of the WWE brought back many of the former stars (Sunny, Lita, R.V.D. et al), do you think they should have paid a little tribute to some of the past superstars who have moved on from this world (besides Owen Hart). You could have included Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude, Eddie Guerrero, and my late friend, Chris “Skip” Candido.

Finally, if Raw comes to the Jersey Shore in the Summer of ‘08, we have a new BBQ joint that just opened up which is really good called JB’s BBQ. (I admit, your store is probably better, but on the east coast, it’s not easy to go to JB’s often.) You will have to try JB’s BBQ. Thanks and Merry Christmas and Happy 2008!
– Ronn Daignault

It would not have been a bad thing, but I think perhaps the general feeling was to keep the show on a more positive keel. Reminding viewers of who has passed away over the years might have been a downer to some, but I certainly see your point. I like trying new “Q” joints, so thanks for the suggestion.

Hi J.R.,
Will Elijah Burke become a big star in wwe?
– James /ktg27

My crystal ball is being polished and is out of commission, but that answer is largely up to Elijah “Don’t call me Mildred” Burke.

Hey J.R. Have to say love your work. As a wwe fan from Scotland I know you put house shows on here when you are all touring the U.K.. but live raws or smackdowns are always in England. what are the chances in your opinion of a Raw or Smackdown broadcast coming from Scotland, preferably Edinburgh or Glasgow? We have some decent arenas and several stadiums where it could be held such as Murrayfield or Hampden Park.
– Remo (Scotland)

I see no reason in the future why Scotland could not host a Raw and Smackdown TV event, unless the local arenas are not “TV friendly” as it relates to their facilities.

J.R.,
Hulk Hogan drop’s the “Ohhhh Yeaaahhhh!” every now and then on interviews out of habit and I doubt he even thinks of Savage when he does it. As you have said, I wouldn’t put any stock into it concerning a Hogan/Savage deal any time, plus with Savage being in such a poor way physically, and Vince’s mystery hatred towards him, I think Savage fans have no chance of seeing him in WWE again – lol.

Speaking of Hogan, would you have liked to have seen a Hogan vs. Rick Rude feud over the WWF title in 1990? I think it would have been awesome!
Thanks, Chris

I have stopped trying to analyze the Hulk-Savage relationship, but anyone who thinks that the two of them will have another “run” or one more Wrestlemania main event needs to stop drinking the bong water.

Ric Rude was a BTP (big time player) and “Ravishing” would have brought out the best in the Hulkster if the two had gotten into a long term issue. Rude was also a legit tough dude.

hey JR,
just wondering what you think of the commentary on the wwe shows (raw, smackdown, ecw) these days?
for me i feel it’s not as fun to listen too as it used to be (with all due respect to you guys of course). i mean back in the day when the king was always on heels’ side it was funny and so entertaining with the whole bickering going on between you two. but now i find that commentary is biased (on the “good guys” side) in away especially on raw and sometimes on ecw, but on smackdown i find JBL really funny always arguing with cole.
– ray

I think all wrestling commentators can be more unbiased and also engage in timely debate with their partners. Too much bickering takes away from the wrestling at times, and we announcers are often reminded – and have been since I got in the biz – that the show is not about us. Announcers who try to make themselves the centerpiece or focal point of a broadcast usually are unpopular, short termers. Arguing for the sake of arguing like the “Battling Bickerson’s” oftentimes doesn’t work. but the occasional verbal blow up seems to mean more.

JR, Just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas and New Year. Thanks for continuing to deliver the goods on Monday nights (well, Wednesday nights here in Australia) along with The King. You mentioned Clash Of The Champions I in your last post. I have an old video of that show and it remains top to bottom one of the best wrestling shows I’ve watched. It leads me to a question about one of the old NWA “specialty” matches – War Games. Do you think WWE would ever contemplate doing a War Games match on a PPV?
– Andrew

I like the War Games better than the Elimination Chamber, if it matters. I don’t “hate” the Elimination Chamber, but I do feel that the War Games is a viable and unique presentation. Contemplate… perhaps…pull the trigger… who knows?

hey JR
I am a big Bruiser Brody fan and I was wondering if you knew if there were any Bruiser Brody matches on the WCCW dvd or if WWE is planning a Brody dvd? I really think if people saw Brody they’d see a lot of current guys or guys they are more familiar with in him Austin, JBL, Mick Foley etc. PS. I really enjoyed the anniversary show.
– Mark

I looked, and there are two Bruiser Brody matches in the set. I am sure that there is ample Brody product out there that others may be aware of and can let us know, but the WWE does own a fair amount of Brody footage that I am sure will find its way to WWE 24/7 or DVD at some point. I also suggest you read “Brody” which is a great book written by Brody’s widow, Barbara Goodish, and his former St. Louis associate and friend, Larry Matysik. Wrestling had no better pure brawler than Bruiser Brody.

Hey J.R
I just wanted to drop a comment on Santino Marella, he might not be the best wrestler on RAW, but he damn sure puts the e in WWE, every little thing he do is just brilliantly funny, all the small details is just pure genius. I know you had to be laughing when he took the stone cold stunner better than anybody and gave a salute in the air, I cried laughing. Happy XMAS and a happy new year. and thanks for a great blog.
– Kim

I think Marella is a much better wrestler than people perceive, but his comedic skills seem to overshadow his physical skills at this time.

Hey Jr.
Just wanted to wish you and the Ross family a Happy Holiday. Try and spend some time with the family, and don’t worry about the BBQ Joint too much, although im sure thats hard to do, as a chef myself, i know. On a side note, I know they try hard and give their all, but that Divas Santas Helpers Match on Raw was just awful wrestling wise until the end when “real” wrestler divas Mickey and Victoria were in there. I know its for the eye candy, witch i did enjoy as much as the King, but there were so many botched moves, and inconsistency. I dont know about you, but i miss matches that went longer than 8 minutes.
– John

Call me crazy, but I don’t think the Divas are there for their athleticism as much as they are for their sex appeal, so the days of The Fabulous Moolah wrestling Vickie Williams is likely to not be replicated in the foreseeable future.

Hey JR! I was at Armageddon. Pretty good PPV. The matches were good, a finish or two didn’t sit that well with me. I was also disappointed with two things, but other than that, I had a great time, it being my first WWE show and all. Sadly, The Great Khali is not “great” when it comes to being in the ring. Unlike big men like Umaga, Mark Henry, and Big Daddy V, he hasn’t improved, and his promos stink due to the fact he doesn’t speak English and he had to use “Arab Bischoff” as I like to call him (due to how he looks). The rest of the matches were solid. I didn’t like how JBL interferred with the WWE Championship match and why didn’t he continue with commentary is beyond me? LOL… I’m not a big fan of starting storylines on PPV’s but, oh well I guess. I was disappointed to see that Ric Flair wasn’t on the card and didn’t make an appearance, as well as “Mr. McMahon” not making an appearance. But I was satisfied overall. Armageddon gets 3.5 out of 5 stars in my book. I was looking to ask YOU a question though, I’ve been meaning to meet yourself and “King” in person, and was wondering if the next time y’all come to Pittsburgh for a show (Raw, PPV) or whatever, if yourself, or yourself and “King”, or yourself and other superstars would do an autograph signing/meet and greet? I love hearing you call Raw each and every Monday alongside your partner “King”! I’m not sucking up, I just love your work.
– JT

Thanks for the Armageddon feedback from a live event perspective. When King and I come to Pittsburgh we usually stay at the Marriott across the street from the Mellon Arena or whatever you choose to call it. Perhaps you could bump into us there, as it seems many fans do.

Hey JR,
I thought the 15th anniversary show was amazing. I actually enjoyed the battle royal with past Raw Superstars. I thought some of them looked in amazing shape- even better than some of the current superstars (no offense) in particular Steve Blackman, Bob Backlaund, and Bart Gunn. Any chance of a return for these guys???
–OSU4LIFE

Beats me. Blackman has a Pennsylvania based business training MMA fighters, etc. and Backlund has varied business interests in Connecticut, but Bart might be a candidate for a return, but that’s pure speculation.

JR,
Let’s say WWE wanted to merge all three rosters together again and just end ECW on ScFi. Would the USA network and the CW network be willing to give both Raw & Smackdown three hour shows each week instead of the regular two hours? This way more guys wouldn’t be fired as a result of a brand merger.
– Joe

Let’s say… highly unlikely. Three hours of first run programming a week for two separate programs would be massive challenge to say the least. Hey, I like BBQ Sauce, but how much is too much?

Hi JR,
Any truth to the reports that Sid was backstage at the anniversary show? And if he was, why was he not given at least a cameo? I would think being a former WWE champion, even if it wasn’t during the company’s peak, would be enough to warrant some sort of appearance, don’t you?
– Jaon A

I never laid eyes on Sid if he was there, which leads me to believe that he was not in attendance. But when you see Sid next, give him my best.

Hi JR,
Whatever happened to having great male managers like Bobby Heenan. I really think a lot of young wrestlers would benefit by being with them. When Flair does lose a match, I hope he becomes a permanent manager, like he was for evolution. Anyways, I hope Heenan gets better, he will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers. I’m just glad i was able to see him in my lifetime at the Hall of Fame at WM22 weekend. I will never forget the April fools day joke he played on everyone, still makes me laugh to this day when I think about it.

The lack of great managers is in direct correlation to the lack of great wrestlers but perhaps even more so. Superstars evolved and were developed quicker and better when they could learn in a variety of territories and not solely in a developmental system. Plus, talents like Bobby Heenan only come a long once in a lifetime. I find it hard to see the fans booing Ric Flair the manager, just as they don’t want to boo Ric Flair the wrestler. Nonetheless there are many valuable roles for Ric when his wrestler days are over.

We’ll have more feedback and answers in a couple of days. I received a lot of interesting feedback questions over the holidays and I’m getting the answers to you as fast as I can. I am also getting a lot of repeated questions, so feel free to go back and read through some of the older blogs. We’ll be putting up a new FAQ soon answering some of the most commonly asked questions. Also, a few surprises are coming soon, as far as interesting things to see and hear…

That’s all I can say for now, but have a great new year!
Boomer Sooner!

I just read that there was a plan to release a Sing DVD. Is that true? Is there anyway the WWE can get Sting, not to wresltle, but to commentate on the DVD? It`s a shame it won`t have any UWF footage of him, but I am looking foward towards his early NWA/WCW years. I know you called a lot of his matches, any of them stand out in your opinion? I am highly partial to his run in mid 1989 - The Gre Amerian Bash 1990. The whole Muta-J-Tex-Ironman Tournament-Horsemen-Flair feud just will be unable to be duplicated. All of those stories just bled together and made one hell of a program. That was gold!

Mr. J.R., first time post long time reader. I have been a fan of professional wrestling for many many years. I have a millions of questions but I'll try to get them down to three, my first questions is in the late 70's to early 80's on spanish television channels there was wrestling (lucha libre) broadcasted from L.A Olympic Auditorium with the likes of a young R.Piper, C. Guerrero, V. Rivera, T Funk, Mil Mascaras and one of the better tag teams of Black Gordman and Goliath and a huge battle royal I think one year Bruno Sammartino won, Ring announcer Jimmy Lennon and finally one of the best referees Red Shoes Duggan, well my question is would you happen to know if the WWE owns the rights to the videos to these matches because some of the Piper vs Guerrero matches were ahead of its time and something that would be still interesting to watch for us wrestling fans. My second questions is do you ever see wrestling getting back to good guy versus bad guy in that the bad guy would taunt the crowd and really get booos and get the crowd going aganist them? For example: Baron Van Raschke, Stan Hansen and Iron Shiek chartacter type wrestlers? A most hated catagory type of thing? Finally since you travel to Connecticut with WWE headquaters in Stamford any chances of putting one of your BBQ restaurant here in CT? Just to let you know there is a pretty good BBQ restaurant at Mohegan Sun Arena and also on the outskirts of Hartford next time you visit CT. Thank you for your time and answering my questions.

Hey JR, One of your many fans in London, UK. We love you over here and love a bit of the old BBQ sauce as much as you do. First off, a bid of congratulations to the WWE for giving Bob Holly a push again - he's been a great superstar to watch now for so long and I always like to see him doing well. It's common knowledge how valuable he is and how great he is at helping the younger, newer stars so kudos to him! Another man I'm glad to see has been given a helping hand has been Nelson Frazier Jr, i.e. Vis, or now Big Daddy V, though I wonder if his massive size has been played up a little too much - after all, he's been that size for years but never seems to have had as much of an impact as he is having now. I just think it's strange that a man who has spent most of the last few years losing on HEAT can suddenly gain such prestige - of course, it's a good thing cos once again he's been great to watch over the years and deserves the chance. Final questions - is the tag division going to be brought to the front of the agenda any time soon? Seems to have shrunk into the shadows recently, with the loss of teams like the Dudleys, New Age Outlaws, Edge and Christian etc? Also, how about bringing the hardcore 24/7 title back and making it crossbrand so everyone can compete for it? Ahhh, those were the days!

This is my favorite mainstream site, do you have any other recommendations? thx. http://www.news-journalonline.com/ColWrestling.htm

Happy B-day and Happy New Year! See you in Syracuse on the 18th! God Bless!

JR I heard that Killer Tim Brooks is going to start up his local promotion again (I think it's the North America Wrestling Alliance). He's looking to create a family friendly, "old school" feel and make the shows similar to the old World Class/Mid-South days. My question is in today's world of "sports entertainment," do you think there is room for old school "rasslin'"? PS: get the meat ordered, it's all planned, me and my 2 buddys are making the trip from Denton, TX the first week of February to JR's Family Bar-B-Que. This will be my last hoorah, so to speak before my lap-band surgery. We'll be the group with the 350lb, 500lb, and 650lb guys in our party. Be glad you don't have all you can eat! :)

Hi JR. Here in the UK, we get a channel called TWC Fight, which is dedicated to wrestling & MMA. This morning, I was watching St Louis wrestling from the 70's on there. It featured the likes of Ric Flair, Harley Race, Ted Dibiase, Bruiser Brodie & Paul Orndorff... My question is, just how good - or more to the point, how important - was it? Cause it seems to me like this must be hugely influential on the pro wrestling we know & love today?

Belated birthday greetings J.R. Great job by the Vols in their bowl win, but was kind of embarrassed by the behavior of some Wolverines before their bowl game with the trash talking and behavior BEFORE the game. If Bo were still alive, he'd have planted his foot up some backsides after that. I think they were lucky to hang on and hold off Florida, with all the energy they were expending being showoffs or trying to be.

Hey JR! As a stand up comic, I know how important it is to make sure the audience has the best time possible. And that is something that you do every single week, and for that, you are a giant inspiration to me! My question is this: What do you think of wrestlers giving shoot interviews? Many of these can be found on youtube, but do you think they expose the business too much, or jeopardize their chances of working? And by the way, again I have heard some colorful language in my business, but I think the Honky Tonk Man would make a trucker blush! :) Thanks for your time LANDON MEYER

Here's one JR fan that endorses your actions against "Johnson". David Kaplan

Nice to see a mention of the late, great Rick Rude. Now there's a guy who really deserves the full bio disc treatment, especially now that WWE has gotten so good at them.

Hey J.R., I got a question as a fan to another... how cool would it be to see a movie where John Triton and Jack Conrad have to team up?

JR- When are Ax and Smash going to get the credit they deserve? Demolition in my mind was the greatest tag team in WWE history. They had the title for 470+ days in an era when tag team wrestling was outstanding. Ax and Smash are said to be copies of the Road Warriors- I think Ax and Smash were BETTER than the Road Warriors. They should be inducted into the Hall of Fame as Ax and Smash not Bill Eadie and Barry Darsow. A Demolition DVD would be nice too. During their prime-without Crush- Ax and Smash were the best in the business. Let's get em in the HOF.

Hey JR! Question. Maybe my memory is failing me, but I was watching WWE 24/7, and I saw the debut of the Undertaker at the Survivor Series many years ago. I clearly remember seeing that live at the time, and correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Undertaker originally announced to the crowd as "Kane the Undertaker"? If so, this has been edited by WWE. I was wondering if you could clarify this for me. Is it possible they quickly dropped the Kane part of the name, and then recycled it later for a new character? Also, how are Roddy Piper and Bobby Heenan doing?

Happy Birthday JR. The Match in which Randy Savage hurt his ankle and took his boot off has against, Bret Hitman Hart, not Rickey the Dragon Steamboat.

this is what i don't get. they have great minds that revolutionalized wrestling on the payrole and still have them like eric bishoff and paul heyman. but they never utilize it. paul should of been giving full run over ecw. look at the miserable failure it became. paul's vision never failed. vinces did so who was better suited to run it the guy who made it famious or the guy who wanted to turn it into a weak ass version of his own show? as far as the diva's i was watching several matches from back in the day. and let me tell you. instead of that ecw i think they should have a womans division. but then again they are not smart enough to do that. i mean if you are going to take a brand called extreme and turn it into the most boring show u have then its time to give it back to paul. iof vince had bells he would give ecw back to paul maybe retain video rights. then let paul run with it and fund him for a modest commission. see that way it would be original.

Hey J.R., Is the WWE ever going back to letting the wrestlers do unscripted material on the mic? I saw a Shawn Michels interview in montral the other day from 97 I think that was great and refreshing for me as a fan & maybe the best one ever done in the WWE. Also is the WWE going away from the Tag Team divison? I miss the days off Demoliton, Hartfoundation, Hardys, edge & Christon, New age outlaws. Your the man, thanks.

Hey Good Ol' J.R., First off my condolences on your team's loss. Quite a game, though. In what has been the craziest college football season of my life nothing is surprising at this point. Hopefully my Buckeyes will come out a little better than the Sooners on monday night (sorry I won't be watching you then). Keep up the great work and continued success in everything, Brad

Hey JR, Happy New Year. Great blog as always. I've noticed that sometimes you seem largely critical of your heel performances in 1996 and 1999. I must beg to differ. I thought in both showings, you were amazingly passionate, and as Mick Foley advises in his first book, genuinely believed your motives as a bad guy in order to make it convincing. It just sprung to mind particularly with all the recent Raw XV stuff recently, I wouldn't be overstating it if I said I thought your 1996 promo where you aired your grievances with Vince and the WWF then reintroduced Razor Ramon is probably in my top 5 ever. I hope you don't mind me being a bit intrusive, I just wondered what particularly bothers you about your performances? Many thanks, Mike H, England

Hi JR, I watched some old Tazz matches and I love them everytime I see them. Tazz his career ended in 2002 right? Can you please tell me why? He had a broken neck in ECW, that could be a factor. I think Tazz does a great job as a commentator, but in the ring, he was amazing. Would be happy about an answer and respect to you. After all the years, you are still the best. Greetings from Germany Thorsten

JR, First of all, totally agree with you on the Fiesta Bowl. While I could hear cries of anger all throughout my workplace that night, hats off to West Virginia. They played a good ballgame when not a lo of people gave them a chance, and I think they made a good selection with their new head coach... he certainly deserved it. It's also good to see another OU fan being gracious about our losses. I recently had an opportunity to watch the World Class DVD, and it was a tremendous piece of work. Growing up in Lawton, we got World Class shows in town fairly often, and even though they were Texans, the Von Erichs were just as much heroes to us. It also brought back a lot of memories of watching the TV show with my parents, including that horrible day when they announced David had died. Even with that, it was a great release, and everyone involved with it did a great job. I think my only "complaint", if you can call it that, is that I wanted more. Hopefully, we'll see more World Class showing up somewhere down the line. Watching it brought back memories of one of my all time favorites, "Iceman" King Parsons. He was fun to watch in the ring, probably one of the best talkers ever, and, from what I heard from a lot of people who met him, a great guy outside the ring. I was always surprised he never made it bigger. What was your take on him? Keep up the great work!

Hello JR. Long time fan first time writer-in-er. first off i want to say that you looked good on the sidelines while ur boomer sooners played my mountaineers. ( I hope we can still be friends.) anyway to my question, what is going on with the tag team wrestling. I love a good tag match. The WWE has some awsome talented tag teams; the highlanders, WGTT, Duce and Domino, Brian and Paul, Jesse and Festus, Major Bros..... the list goes on and on. My question is, why is tag team wrestling not getting a push like it did back in the mid to late 90s... Hardy Boyz, E&C, Dudleys (team 3D now.) There are some amazing teams that should be pushed. Thanks for taking the time out of your very busy week to read these. I am a huge fan of your. I always have been and always will be. Even though my boys from WV beat yall............. BOOMER SOONERS...............lETS GO MOUNTAINEERS.

Hey J.R, I was watching an old PPV on tape, and you were interviewing Jerry Lynn who was at times square, he cut a promo and said was that good enough for you JR. Was this a character thing or was that a "shoot". Also your thought on Paul London and an Australian TV and PPV show. Thanks

Hello Jim I was wondering If WWE is Considering Indianapolis as location for WrestleMania in the Future. Reason im asking is We are almost done with construction of Lucas Oil Stadium which will be the new home for the colts. It is set to be open August of this year. t of I also was wondering about what hotel you & most of the talent usually stay at wehn doing show in Indy. Ive heard so many diffirent places thrown out & was hoping you could clear that up for me. Thanks for entertaining em week after week on Raw & PPVS Sincerley Dustin

Dear JR, Who was your Raw superstar of the year for 2007? I was going to say wrestler but 1) you may not have been privy to other promotions and cards other than Raw events and WWE PPVs and 2) they don't call them wrestlers where you work. Seriously, do you call them "superstars" backstage too? Even Carlito? Anyways, thanks for responding to the fans. I think I actually prefer this format to the Ross Reports of old.

Hey, JR, first off -- great job on staying fresh with your commentating on Raw. I've noticed that you've used quite a bit of contemporary references in the media (i.e. Britney Spears or Ellen's dancing) and I find it quite entertaining. I also like that you mix that in with the references to some of wrestling's legends. Anyway, I was just wondering what your thoughts were on Madusa. Do you ever think she'll make it to the Hall of Fame? There was the whole Women's Title incident on Nitro, but after people like Sable, Bischoff, Heyman, Hogan, etc., etc. have returned, one would think Madusa wouldn't be that much of a stretch. I remember there being rumors about discussions on her return in 1998 when the Women's Title was first brought back? Any truth to that rumor? Thanks, and keep up the great work on Raw!

Regarding the possibility of WWE taping Raw or SmackDown/ECW in Scotland... ...currently, I wouldn't say we have any areans suitable for WWE's TV productions, and our stadia wouldn't really be suitable either. However, planning permission and funding has been secured for a new, 12,500 seat (capacity TBC) arena next to the existing SECC on the River Clyde in Glasgow, which would more than satisfy the necessary criteria for a WWE television broadcast in terms of amenities, access, facilities and configuration options, not just raw capacity. The new arena is due to be completed by the end of 2009, although since ground has yet to be broken, I'd conservatively pitch it for completion by 2010. The arena is integral to our successful 2014 Commonwealth Games bid and I'm sure it would serve as an excellent venue for WWE Live Events or TV tapings. We'd certainly sell it out, that's for sure!

Hi JR, I like to consider myself a good armchair booker and would like to run a fantasy scenario by you. HBK wins the WWE championship on Raw - Ric Flair wins Royal Rumble and challenges HBK for the WWE title - Michaels makes a heel turn sometime before Wrestlemania by superkicking Flair and becomes friends with Mr. McMahon , As Mania nears an announcement is made saying a secret guest referee will be used for this match - Stephanie is given the task of recruiting the guest ref. Wrestlemania's main event is set to begin, the two competitors are in the ring and it is time for the referee to be revealed. Mr. McMahon's music plays and he enters the ring laughing at Flair ready to force Ric's retirement but before he can ring the bell to start the match Steph announces there has been a last minute change and Vince will not be calling the match - old familiar music begins to play and Bret Hart comes down the ramp in a ref's shirt, the match begins with the action going back and forth with the hitman calling a very fair down the middle match, as the match gets longer HBK gets frusterated as he can not keep Naitch down for the count and starts complaining and gets aggressive towards Bret, Michaels knocks Ric out of the ring and as Bret tries to move Shawn back from the ropes so he count Ric out Shawn attempts to superkick him but Bret is able to counter and places Shawn in the sharpshooter ( with no real harm being done to Bret due to his health conditions), Michaels taps out to no avail, when Ric starts to reenter the ring Bret releases the hold without Ric seeing what was happening in the ring, with HBK already down in pain Ric applies the figure four and HBK taps out to end the match, now Hart has screwed Michaels. The next night on Raw the Hitman is in the ring to congratulate the now 17 time champ - HBK comes to the ring looking pissed but then does a surprise face turn and holds his hand out to both Flair and Hart telling Bret they are now even and it is time to bury the hatchet Bret agrees and shakes the offered hand. Now Ric announces he is retiring and going out on his terms not Vince's as the unbeaten 17 time world champion. The championship is now vacant and a tournament to fill it can be started. I know this is all just fantasy but I would greatly appreciate your thoughts of this scenario. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi J.R., I enjoy reading your blogs. I was wondering, what do you feel it takes to make a good color commentator, and what do you recommend to someone who would like to try to pursue that role in wrestling. I figured your persective as someone who has worked with some really great color commentators would be very useful to have!

Hey JR, What's the deal with London and Kendrick? They never get a match on RAW these days or a tag team title shot, despite being the best tag team in the company!Meanwhile a randomly thrown together team in Holly and Rhodes get to be champions.I know you don't book the shows but does it not bother you that two of the companys best *wrestlers* can barely get a match on Heat? Richard.

Hi! I'd like to say I really like your work and I'm not trying to suck up. I live in Quebec province and I was just thinking that it's been a long time since WWE came here. On wwe.com, they don't mention any date for Canada but I hoped you knew something. I'd really be happy if WWE came to Quebec because I never had the occasion to watch a real show live and it would almost be a dream come true for me. Second thing, I wanted to ask you how's the best way to get autographs from superstars. I know you talked about hotels on your blog but do all the superstars stay in the same hotel? How do you know which one they're in. Thanks a lot, Pier-Luc

J.R, I watched Smackdown last night and was impressed with Coach's commentary although I miss JBL who was a natural heel commentator but I hope he does well on RAW.I'm sorry about the Fiesta Bowl but I'm a Notre Dame fan so I have taken my lumps this year at least the Sooners got to a bowl,I may be deemed "crazy as a pet coon" for saying this but I see Cody Rhodes being an outstanding heel someday I watched him induct his dad on my Wrestlemania 23 DVD and I may be crazy but I see some of Ole Anderson in his speaking style but maybe that's just me but I watched the Horsemen DVD and if you watch some of Ole's promos and then watch Cody you may se it too but that's just my opinion. I read in one of your past blogs that you like Porky's Oh man that is a classic especially the scene in the principal's office. Happy New Year to you and the Mrs. Dan

Have tried 7 stores in the NY Metro/White Plains, NY area and NONE have the RAW XV DVD. Previous releases were found ON-TIME and ON DATE OF RELEASE... What's the hold-up??? (Prefer to buy in person at a store; not online!)

I agree with you on War Games over Elimination Chamber. It would be great to see War Games get a revival.

Hey, JR. I gotta say, I respect your work as a commentator. if you ask me, you sound like the most realistic announcer in the WWE. I wanted to know if you think when Matt Hardy returns, he will beat MVP for the US Championship? I like MVP and all, but I think he has had a bite of too much to chew. I think 8 months is too much for a newbie. In 2006, we had US title changes from JBL to Bobby Lashley to Finlay to Kennedy then to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and MVP even surpassed You-Know-Who's reign. On another note, MVP keeps retaining his title by counting himself out? What the hell?

Hello J.R. It's obvious that you are of the opinion that the teritory system of old yielded a larger crop of top level wrestlers & talkers & I agree with that 100%. In the wrestling business' current state the majority of new wrestlers coming through seem to wrestle the same way. I was just wondering if you thought there was any feasible way that maybe the WWE could do a mini revival of the teritory system, setting up links with several promotions across the U.S & Canada rather than just OVW & Florida Championship Wrestling. Ideally the WWE would support these promotions financially but largely leave them be, checking in on them 2 or 3 times a year. The wrestlers could be swapped around all the teritories like in the past, learning different styles & how to work different crowds.

Hey JR, happy birthday. I think 2008 is shaping up to be a great year, especially with all the expected DVD releases inc Sting, Macho Man, The Rock. JR, you mentioned that you have not heard a lot about the content of Austins DVD, but I was wondering if you have been interviewed for it yet, as a Stone Cold DVD with no JR would be like a meal without JRs BBQ sauce (cheap pop).

Is Bobby Lashley ever going to make a return to WWE?

Hi JR, sorry about the Sooners but im a Notre Dame fan and I think I have it a little worse than you but the Sooners did do okay against WVU. It was just that unstoppable WVU offense that stopped OU. I was wondering about your opinion on the choice for NFL coach of the year. Did you agree with the decision? Also, is Undertaker's nephew still in the Middle East? That was brought up at WM19 I believe and I never heard anyhting else about it.

i just purchased the 15th anniversary raw edition dvd! Its good but missing some segements! Do you have any idea why the paternity test of mcmahon is not in the set? its on the back of the box but missing in the dvds! Anyway when are you coming to sacramento? I love seeing you guys live as i have been a wrestling fan for over twenty five years

Hi JR.: I read that the Fl. Training Facility was going to be on TV. can you expound on this as it is not listed on their web site? (time and channel)

Hello JR Happy belated birthday. Our birthday's are the same.At least we have something in common.

Hey JR, I see Ashley Massaro made her WWE return on Friday at a Raw Houseshow, is she back on back on Raw permanently. I could see a potential feud between her and Beth for the women's title. If she is back on Raw, will we see her back on TV this Monday.

what male wrestler played the role of "cloudy" in the 80's?
