Just a Few Random Thoughts..

Posted in:

I enjoyed visiting with Paul Bearer in Mobile Monday prior to RAW. PB is a funeral home director in Mobile and dabbles in wrestling a little, but just for the fun of it. At one time Paul weighed in at 525 pounds before he had gastric bypass surgery (I think that is what it is called) and now tips the Toledos at approximately 300. Paul is a great example of what I preach more often than not and that is any one wanting to get in the wresting business should have their college degree or have an established trade that they can fall back on when their wrestling days have ended.

A guy in the DFW Airport asked me Tuesday morning if Britney Spears was coming to the WWE to be a Diva. In a rare moment of clarity and before I blurted out “Hell, No,” I simply said that one never knows what is going to happen in the WWE and that if Britney made an appearance somewhere down the road, how could any of us be totally shocked. What if she came between Edge and Vickie Guerrero?!

It’s nice to see the announcement on RAW that some Wrestlemania tickets are being released, especially for those that want to attend the March 30 event in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando and thought that it was too late to get tickets. I am also anxious to see how the 2008 Hall of Fame event sells, as it is one of my favorite nights of the entire year and if you have never attended a WWE HOF Induction Ceremony, I encourage you to consider it this year. The HOF will be on Saturday night March 29 and one would expect tickets to go on sale soon. I am also curious as to who gets inducted this year, not to mention who will be the presenters as it could/should be some great stuff for all us fans. I’m pulling for Gordon Solie and the Brisco Brothers, among others, that I will keep to myself for now.

NBC has renewed the American Gladiator for a second season based largely, one would assume, on the fact that the writers are still on strike and new programming is needed for the fall. I have to admit that I haven’t watched the new version yet, but some that have seen it have provided mixed reviews.

I will be traveling to Norfolk, Virginia this Sunday for Monday’s RAW in Hampton, Va. which will be the WWE’s maiden voyage into HDTV. With the WWE going to HD it most likely means that you have seen the last of yours truly and my erstwhile partner doing many on cameras during RAW.

The bad thing about traveling this Sunday is that I will miss virtually all of the NFL playoff games which sucks pond water. You can bet a slab of J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q ribs that the TV people are praying that New England and Green Bay win the game simply because of the Pats chance to run the table and make history and the Packers and #4 Brett Favre getting a shot at a Cinderella-like Lombardi (Vince, not Steve) Trophy. I realize that the Giants represent the biggest TV market in America, but the Favre story seems to have more “sizzle” than does the New York Giants playing for a Super Bowl title. Now, if you are a Giants’ fan you will obviously sing a different story. I am a Favre guy from our days in Atlanta together, his rookie year in the NFL, so I am pulling for the former Fabulous Freebird fan to get one more shot at winning the big one.

Nice to see Congress and Major League Baseball getting on with their business of addressing steroids, etc in MLB. I do think all entities with drug issues among their athletes should be able to police themselves and govern their people in a proper and safe manner. Ideally, that is what would and should happen, and hopefully Congress will be able to help that matter along. However, I never hear what the government is going to do about the makers of these drugs who obviously know that they are being used for purposes other than what they were approved by the FDA to do. Education and zero tolerance will work wonders in cleaning up all organizations that have problems of this nature. Plus when HGH, a rumored drug of choice in the NFL, can be detected accurately via urine tests, it will deter the abuse of that particular drug…..that is until someone comes up with a way to mask these tests. What are the penalties for people who create masking agents to beat drug tests anyway? One would assume that it would mean prison time, right? If HGH was created to treat dwarfism, why are so many people who do not suffer from dwarfism using it, including entertainer Suzanne Somers, who talked about her regular use of the drug recently on the Larry King show? Obviously there must be more benefits from the drug than only treating dwarfism, but that doesn’t give everyone a free pass to “cheat.”

How can Pacman Jones be so unintelligent? Or is the suspended NFL star just a by-product of a defiant, young society? Jones allegedly got into trouble at 3 a.m. in an Atlanta strip club earlier this month, which is absolute insanity. What is the allure of being in a club at 3 a.m. anyway? Plus, I would bet you a J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Valentine package that Pac was with a “posse” all of whom had less to lose than the gifted cornerback of the Tennessee Titans.

It was surprising to see that Ohio State middle linebacker James Laurinaitis is staying in Columbus for his senior year and not testing the waters of the NFL, where #33 was thought to be a first round pick this April if he had declared. The son of Road Warrior Animal and the nephew of Johnny “Ace” Laurinaitis is a really cool kid who was reportedly “relieved” when he finally made the decision to return for another year of college football. I would assume that James will get a personal insurance policy to “protect the investment” in case of a career ending injury during his senior year with the Buckeyes. One could only assume that policy will not be with Lloyd’s of London, but that’s another story for another time. Seriously, I applaud James’ decision and hope it was the right one as only time will tell. Bottom line, if the young man is happy then every one else should be too, but I damn sure would have been really tempted to take the cash, which would have been in the guaranteed millions for a first round pick.

While we are on the subject, Oklahoma’s middle linebacker Curtis Lofton declaring for the NFL draft is a crushing blow for the Sooners. This news should make all Texas Longhorn fans pleased, as it brought a partially hidden smile on the face of Dusty Rhodes when we spoke of it Monday in Mobile. I am sure when I walked away from “The Dream” he had a good chuckle at my consternation. Wait until Dusty hears that our ace cornerback Reggie Smith has just decided to pass on his senior year to go to the NFL as well. OU goes from being a preseason #2 ranking to probably a low top ten pick with all the defections.

The Presidential race is so uninteresting to me, which is a damn shame, as the election for the leader of the free world should be of keen interest to every American. The candidates simply seem to be just more of the same professional politicians that run for office year after year. Plus, the media generally drives me away from the topic as they make news stories that “Mitt is too handsome,” “Hillary broke down and cried,” “Fred Thompson has a young wife,” “Oprah is endorsing Obama” and on and on. I will be happy when Bill Maher’s show returns to HBO, which I thoroughly enjoy as he dissects politics as well as anyone. How entertaining would it be to see Mr. McMahon, working on about 3 hours sleep, guest on Maher’s HBO talkfest?

By the way, I still miss “The Sopranos” and “Deadwood” on HBO. But I digress.

Speaking of “Deadwood,” I received a cool as hell gift pack from actor Earl Brown, who played Dan Dority, Al Swearingen’s right hand man on Deadwood, that included some awesome swag. We traded stuff as Dan now has a good stash of J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Sauces and Beef Jerky. Earl is a wrestling fan and has been since he was a kid in Kentucky. Earl is the proud owner of an “I’ve Got Big Nuts!” T-Shirt from J.R.’s and you can too by visiting our store. Our friendly staff is waiting to assist you as we speak.

Breaking news!!! A wrestling website reported that several WWE Superstars were spotted at FRIDAY’s in Mobile Monday night after RAW! Most of them ate CHICKEN! (Gasp)

Jeff Hardy may be “insane,” but he is the hottest thing in the WWE right now for my money. The Hardy-Orton match at the Royal Rumble seems to be stealing everyone else’s thunder for the annual event. It’s gonna be a memorable night in the World’s Most Famous Arena on pay per view.

Say a prayer for Bobby Heenan, who has undergone three surgeries over the past few weeks to rebuild his jaw. As soon as I hear from Bobby’s wife Cindi I will provide an update.

Remember when NBA star Allen Iverson went off at a press conference a few years ago about missing “PRACTICE”? “It’s just “PRACTICE”, man!” I kind of felt that way when HBK had to qualify for the Royal Rumble. “QUALIFY!?”

The WWE must have had a pyro coupon based on the amount of fireworks that were utilized for JBL Monday night in Mobile. The smoke filled, Civic Center on the Redneck Riviera resembled the old pool hall I used to own in Westville, Oklahoma, with the layer of smoke that permeated the arena essentially the rest of the evening. It might have been like seeing Cheech and Chong in concert way back in the day or attending a Grateful Dead concert.

My vote to broadcast the Royal Rumble match this year on PPV is Joey Styles and Jonathan Coachman. Do I hear a second??

I have not seen as many low blows as we saw used on RAW Monday since I was a sophomore in high school when seemingly every freshman was getting nailed with a low blows at least once or twice at every football or basketball practice. Maybe I should lobby for the athletic cup concession if the low blow stream of consciousness continues.

We will have more Q&As for you soon here on our site. Please keep your comments coming. Thanks for stopping by and for those of you that shop with us. We appreciate your support. Have a great day and get ready for HD!

BOOMER SOONER!

Hi JR, One thing I’ve noticed about the current wrestling product is the lack of factions. It seems that feuding factions were a staple of the “attitude era” of wrestling. Why do you think there aren’t many factions today? Is it the lack of depth or have factions simply been over used? - Riley
I hope The Three Man team of JR, Jerry "The King" Lawler, and Tazz anounce the Royal Rumble Match this sunday :)
I kind of have a WWE/Stone Cold Legal thing.. I recently got a link from my friend to a TNA spot on youtube where Sharkboy is basically ripping off Stone Cold's gimmick.. Can he legally do that? I was just kind of confused as Steve is one of my favorite wrestlers, and i wondered if some of the things were Trademarked.
Hello, J.R. Just watching WWE Monday Night Raw HD and i must say it is great to see a whole new WWE! (pardon the pun) - I also noticed amongst all the fresh things about the show the good ol' Skittles sponsor has returned - You seemed very shocked and excited about it =p Thanks, Ben Kerin
First of all congrats on the new contract! I agree with the Joey Styles part of your Royal Rumble proposal. I know Joey's favorite match of the year is the Rumble and I think it would be nice to have a team other than Michale Cole and the King calling the match. I think the work that Joey and and Tazz do on ECW is under appreciated mainly because the ECW brand is under appreciated and is still looking to find it's footing. But Joey Styles is a great commentator and deserves the opportunity to call a Royal Rumble match. Heck, I'll give my vote for Joey and JR to call the match Sunday. I'm sure Joey would have no problem moving over to the color commentating position for the match or vice-versa. I always thought it would be interesting to hear Joey Styles and Jim Ross call a match together and what better event then this Sunday at the Rumble for it to happen?
"Bruce from Minneapolis Says: JR, please show up at the Fan Axxess at the Mall of America! The NFL Fans here in Minneapolis are probably chuckling after Randy Moss got himself into some more media and personal mess. I am very happy that we unloaded that baggage to New England….Oh hell, why not have Britney and Randy guest on Raw or Wrestlemania? Vince has certainly gone down that “push the envelope” path many times before…" Oh man that's rich, first off you dumped Moss to Oakland who then sent him to the Pats. and if that baggage includes a touchdown record a perfect reular season and a potential fourth super bowl win in 7 years we'll take it. oh and Bruce thanks for David Ortiz and Kevin Garnett!!!
Hey JR, Congrats on the extension, I look forward to hearing you and King side by side for atleast 2 more years. I was wondering about Val Venus, is he still with the company? I and many other are still big Val Venus fans as he is still way over with the crowd. Any thoughts as to why The Big Valbowski is no longer used on TV anymore? He has always been over with the crowd and he does great mic work. Please help me find my info on my dear friend Val Venus.
JR if you could pick one ECW original that has not compeated in a WWE ring at any point who would it be?
I love ECW. But I think some personnel changes need to be made. I am happy to see Shelton Benjamim on ECW. But the rosters needs Elijah Burke back, Ted Diabese Jr., Matt Sydal and Kendrick & London. ECW should be the opposite of Smackdown and RAW. There should be high spots at a faster pace with some big bumps.
Hey JR, I dont know if you know or if you could say but Im just wondering CM Punk is an amazing wrestler hands down obv. he's ECW Champion and should be, but how come he doesnt do as many promos as other Champions do? I know he's great on the mic I've watched videos of his promos before he came to the WWE. Is it his choice or the creative staff? Just curious. Hope you have a great weekend & I'm pumped to hear you signed a new contract, RAW would not be the same without you.
Hello JR, Great news about your contract as I am a big fan of your announcing. I think the WWE should have a lifetime contract with you IMO. Anyway, you said that Joey Styles and Jonathan Coachman get you vote. Please tell the WWE not to go in this direction as the announcing would be truly awful. I understand that you and King might be tired after calling the Hardy/Orton match, but you HAVE to announce the Rumble match. Last year Michael Cole was okay, but you were missed a lot by me and my friends. My vote goes Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler and (Tazz or Michael Cole). Please don't let the Coach call this match as he is not nearly ready for a match this big. All the best JR, and whatever happens I hope you definitely get to call it.
Hi JR, I was just wondering if you knew about the footage WWE owns? Do they own the Mid South Wrestling(UWF)footage? I've had some people tell me they do own it but according to Wikipedia WWE doesn't own the Mid South footage. I'm just looking for a final word on this. And if they don't do you think they will ever acquire the footage? I'd love seeing it on WWE 24/7
in your unbiased opinion who do you think is the greatest tag team of all-time? my favorite is demolition but the greatest i think is the hart foundation
Hi JR, Do you think John Tenta "EARTHQUAKE" has a chance of getting into the Hall Of Fame one day? Thanks Steve in Indy
What is your opinion on the patriots possibly breaking Miamis record? I personally don't want the to win as I'm a Dolphins fan (Stop laughing) and really don't want the record broken and as far as the Superbowl goes I'd like to see the Giants go on to win.
I read a rumor that the Big Show is returning. Personally, I am excited by the news. I think it would be cool if HHH wrestled the Big Show next week in the Rumble qualifier match.
I have a HD television but does that mean I can watch Raw in HD? Or do I have to buy a HD channel? I watch/record Raw every week Live on Sky Sports 3 at 2am.
I totally agree about having something to fall back on. That goes with any profession that can't always promise you tomorrow. Every team that's left in the NFL playoffs deserves it if they get to the Super Bowl. Pats for their obvious 'perfection'. Chargers just for beating the Pats, and having a recovery season. (funny that the team that went 15-1 ended up winning the Super Bowl the very next year, so keep that in mind. haha). Packers for obvious reasons w/ Mr. Farve. And the Giants & Eli for stepping up against critics. I'm pulling for a Pats/Packers Super Bowl, with hands up in the air as to who would win. I've watch Shawn Michaels newest DVD quite a few times. And when you said the two best that come to your mind are Ric Flair & Shawn Michaels, I had a thought. How about HBK vs Ric Flair at WM24? Or will Vince be involved in another big time Wrestlemania match and end Flair's career himself? I'd love to see either one of those happen. And lastly, can RAW or ECW step up and win the Rumble??? Smackdown has won it I don't know how many times now.
Dear J.R., With the WWE HOF approaching once again, I am baffled as to why WWE still allows tickets for this event to be sold to the general public (for reasons other than $$$$, that is). Every year, the HOF always seems to attract the most disruptive audience members, who never fail to yell out at the most inappropriate times. To your knowledge, has anyone at WWE ever thought about reverting the HOF to a smaller private event like in the mid 90s, so that the Superstars & Legends can truly enjoy their moment without having it ruined by some idiot hecklers? Thanks & regards, Phil
Hey JR. I recently started reading your blog and really enjoy it, I just want to ask two questions, 1. which is your favorite ever in the wwe? Personally I thought the power trip that included Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin was great, even though it didn't last long, these guys were awesome as a heel group and worked so well together. 2. I know stone cold probably will never return to a full time schedule in the wwe, but if he did who would you like to see him in a rivalry against? It would be great to see stone cold vs randy Orton. Orton has become my favorite heel in the wwe and has been doing a great job. Thanks again Scott from Wisconsin
Hey Good Ol' J.R., Let me say this as far as James Laurinaitis deciding to stay in school....who wouldn't??? You just said yourself earlier in this blog that it is important to get a college education to fall back on! Just because someone gets drafted to the NFL and signs a big contract doesn't mean they will end up getting all that money. What if he were to get drafted then something crazy happened and he couldn't play football ever again? Besides don't you think it has to eat away at an athlete to get to the national championship game two years in a row and not win? There is more to life than a big money pro sports contract, after all. Perhaps he just likes college? Still love the site, and really enjoy the blogs. Keep up the good work and GO BUCKS!!! Brad
A big hello from the Big Easy!! First, don't pay any mind to those that are drinking quarts of "hateorade" by not liking what you say on YOUR BLOG. I'm all for free speech, but just turn a blind eye to it and it will all go away. As for Britney Spears being on any WWE programming, Iuse the tried and true saying, "never say never". If Mike Tyson and K-Fed can do it so can she. HA HA. I remember that the late Ernie Ladd was a great dominoes player during his time in Mid-South. Were there any others that joined in the fun or were good at other games like chess or Scrabble? All work and no play, etc. etc. Can't wait to see the immortal Hulk Hogan in the Bacchus parade early next month. Maybe, you and a few of the WWE stars can come and join him??? That would be a hoot!! Take care now and HAPPY MARDI GRAS!!!!!!
are there any mainstream news web sites that you would deem reliable regarding wrestling news/commentary?
Hey Jr, Whats your thoughts on what Edge did to C.M. Punk last Tuesday? I want to see Edge vs. C.M. Punk I think that will be a great match. I told C.M. Punk in 2002 when I first saw him how much than he looked like Edge. Jr Do you think that if and when ROH aka ring of honor makes it to tv it will give the wwe a run for the money? What's with Mr. McMachon refusing to promote Randy Savages dvd? I heard from Mr. Poffo that his family and Mr. McMachon have grudges with eachother. Do you think thats why Mr. McMachon didn't let Randy's dvd go tough? What do you think of Hornswoggel? I like him. He is from Wisconsin like Mr. Kennedy is. What do you think of Mr. Kennedy? I like him a lot. I talked to his brother Andy Anderson 1 time and he is nice.
Hello J.R. I understand your discouragement with the presidential election. I have never supported any politician until I heard of Ron Paul. He is not a media darling and you rarely hear about him but he is gaining some momentum. Furthermore his campaign is funded solely by the people and has NO special interest groups in his pocket. Check him out if you get a moment, he might surprise you. It's a true grass roots movement. I must say I truly enjoy your blog and your honesty in the insight you provide. I've been a fan of wrestling since 1983. Keep up the good work! One last thing, ever think of adding a Buffalo Wing sauce to your store?
JR, I just watched the "Territories" episode of Legends on 24/7. I always enjoy those round tables, but this one was exceptional. Your story of over hearing the 'hit' on Vince conversation was hillarious! In that day and age I can only image how serious those guys were and how scary that situation must have been. Keep up the good work on 24/7! See you in Hampton on Monday. By the way, all that smoke after JBL's spot was ridiculous and made for poor TV for the rest of the night. I know you cant do anything about it, but the product was worse off for it.
Hey JR.... Cant wait to see you guys Monday in Hampton.....I'm bringing my daughter she's 6 and this is her first live event..... The shows are always real good right before a Pay per view I remember being at the Raw before Summerslam when The Rock fought Brock Lesnar...... And Shawn Michaels & Triple H had there street fight.....I like DX to much so I hope I never see them wrestle again......The DX stuff will always get over with me......JR the Swanton Bomb Jeff pulled off on Randy Orton was sick it was better than the ones he's hit on Bubba Ray Dudley......Like I said those were sick the one off the top of the 18 foot latter and then the one at the garden I wanna say it was a Royal Rumble or something........... Cant wait to see you guys Monday night........Hope you and the King have safe travels.....
Will the WWE ever be reinstating the WWE Cruiserweight Championship belt very soon?
Hey JR, great column as always! i'm sorry if you ve answere this before, but i had to ask! i know you said Sting is likely to never wrestle in WWE, but what do u think are the chances of him accepting an induction into the Hall Of Fame in the next few years? thanks Kenny, Scotland
Jr, great fan of yours, and of the blog. With the recent string and fantastic WWE produced DVD's, and with the next batch out next year such as Austin, Triple H, The Rock, Starrcade, Hell In A Cell. Sadly though, the Macho Man DVD was nixed. I was wondering from your standpoint, IF you had the power to choose the next lot of WWE produced DVD's, who would be top choices? Thanks Kev
Hi JR. Will there be a new titantron for Raw and Smackdown due to shows being televised in HD? Keep up the good work
hi jr. Big fan here. Just wanted to get your thoughts on wrestling newsletters or 'dirtsheets'. That you know of do alot of the guys really hang on every word that these things say? Also, do you read them? Thank you very much and i will continue to enjoy hearing you monday nights!
JR do you do any Indy shows if so when. I would love to have you in Fl for one of our shows. Love your Blog i read it all the time. You are the Man. Go Sooners Skip Skipperman Owner of the Great American Wrestling Federation
JR, You mentioned on a previous blog that you now offer peanut brittle for sale online, but I cann't find it listed on the online store catalog. Where is it? I want to order some and I cann't find it. A good combo would be JR's Big Nuts and the peanut brittle sold together. Jeff Hardy scares me when he does those insane jumps. Do you too also worry that he is taking one too many big leaps? I just think that risky moves like he did on RAW have the potential to shorten his career, and that they are indeed too risky. A big pop is not worth potentially taking your own self out of the game. Take care, and I want some peanut brittle!
When you get to Hampton, be sure to check out Greenies bar and grill. Exit 274 off I-64. Just ten minutes from the Coliseum. Some of the best music and people you can find anywhere! Live music on Sundays, and real "Tidewater Folks." I've lived all over the country, currently in NYC but 8 years in Hampton Roads. And this is the best atmosphere around. P.S. I'll be at the Rumble! See you there. I hope Hardy wins, then defends at Wrestlemania.
Hey JR. I live in Houston but my mom lives in OKC. Can't wait to go up there to visit your place. I want to have big nuts too! I wanted to get your opinion on Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir. Should be a really good fight. Brock has been training with some of the best in the MMA business with Greg Nelson and Erik Paulson. Hopefully Paulson has been making sure that Brock is comfortable with avoiding submissions or applying them. A lot of posters on the mma forums are saying that Brock doesn't have much of a chance against a former UFC world champ and submission expert in Frank Mir. I think with his collegiate wrestling skills, his huge gas tank and the right training, Brock could be a force in UFC for years to come... What do you think? Thanks again. Boomer Sooner! Jimmy
it was nice meeting and chatting with you and "The King" back in June of last year at tgif in wilkes barre,pa. I wish u and "the king" great success in 2008!! my friend's and I were the ones that bought dinner for you and the rest of the guys and gals. GOD BLESS JIMMY T. ELVIS TRIBUTE ARTIST
Hey JR! Always a pleasure to read your thoughts. I have to part ways with you, however, when it comes to The Coach calling the rumble. His commentary always seems like it's more about getting himself over and finding the perfect soundbite that misses way more than it hits. I truly hope that you call the Rumble and while Joey Styles would be a fine wing man for you, I would prefer (and I suspect many fans would as well) to see Tazz right there beside you. Any way you slice it, the Rumble should be a great one! Take care and as always, your opinions are always entertaining! George Davis
heya JR; I'm a die hard packer backer, and wrestling fan. Just wanted to hear what your expectations are of the outcome of the possible Packer/Patriot superbowl "rematch". As a packer fan i do "fear" the Patriot unbelievable season this year, but truely believe that if there is one team out there this year that could "get lucky" it would be the Packers. Also, whats your opinion on the Big Ten, and the Badgers in particular? thanks for doing this blog, its great to read the thoughts of legandary ring announcer, on my two favorite things, football and wrestling.
Mr. Ross, I have a couple of questions for you that sort of tie in together. With the way some (not generalizing) fans are nowadays, I ask you this. Do you think a long title reign (like Hogan and Flair had in the 80's) would go over today. And, my second question, do you think that titles would mean more if they went 30-45 minutes, perhaps even 1 hour draws on tv? Thank you for your time, sir.
Hi JR: No second on the Coachman Styles Combo for the Rumble! You and the King always have my vote!!! Any idea what HHH yells while he is on the ropes towards the crowd during his entrance? Thanks for years of great Monday Nights! Darrell
My choice to broadcast the Royal Rumble match would also be Joey Styles, but as a color commentator and JR as play-by-play. Or viva versa... Joey said he would love to do color commentary with you just to sit next to you and learn..
Hey JR! 26 from the good ol UK here!! Just received my BBQ sauce, JR cook book and got myself a George Foreman grill to help me cook all those delicious recipies!! I have to say I bought 3 sauces, the original is lush I've eaten nearly all of it already!!. Can you order internationaly from here? I bought mine from WWESHOP with some cheap Hulkamania merchandise! Hulkster's on sale! Have you ever had your sauce in a BLT? Delicious! Anyway, I have to go to extreme measures over here to watch yout WWE 24/7 round tables and even the Hulkster's American Gladiators. I wish Hulk was back in the WWE personally but good to see him on TV anyway!. What do you think the chances are of Hogan at Wrestlemania? It did look pretty open to a Hogan Khali slam match at RAW 15. Do you know if WWE is aware that the UK have many other TV options than Sky? We have a sports channel called Setanta that is available on free to air TV as well as Sky, Cable and all other providers so is much more available than Sky Sports. The Rumble was on Setanta a few years back and I miss my live events!! I hope you do call the rumble, there's nothing better than hearing you and King call the big ones. Michael Cole is beyond annoying and a reason I turn off Smackdown. I hope WWE know how great you are, you make the matches magic JR. I hope you continue for many years, you're very underated in my opinion. As a huge Monsoon and Bobby Heenan fan, no one comes close to the match drama as you do!, although I do miss Vince on the mic!. Ohhhhhhhhhh my goooooooooooodnessssssss!. Steve, 26, UK
"My vote to broadcast the Royal Rumble match this year on PPV is Joey Styles and Jonathan Coachman. Do I hear a second??" Nay. My honest opinion about that, JR, is Joey Styles is probably not as well-known or experienced as the other WWE PBP men (such as yourself and Michael Cole), and as for the Coach...well, let me just say that I was extremely disappointed when I found out that the Coach was replacing JBL as color commentator. I'd like to see Michael Cole, The King, and Tazz call the Rumble this year. I thought last year's team of Cole, JBL, and Lawler was...not to steal anything from Curt Hennig, a perfect pick.
No second for Styles & Coach!!! I'd rather hear Eric Bischoff and Steve McMichael call it - Styles and Coach are pretty bad commentators. If I'm paying $40 for the Rumble I better get you and Lawler!
hey JR.. just thought you might be interested to hear that Eugene. remember him?? well hes gona be wrestling in Ireland in march.. he's working with a promotion called irishwhipwrestling. their website is www.irishwhipwrestling.com
Hey J.R I loved your blog as always. This is the first time I've written though I read all the time.(I don't think i've ever missed one)I just wanted to say that I totally disagree with your recomendations for the announce team at the Rumble. While I have no ill feeling torward Joey or the Coach, the Rumble has to be called by a great play by play announcer. With it being the most high action match year after year you need someone who can keep up with all the action and still keep it interesting. The only man other than Vinny Mac himself that will make it worth my money is...Drum Roll...YOU!!Please call it..
Hey JR Im moving from Kansas City to Dallas, leaving today will be stopping in OKC, and paln to eat at JRs tonite for Dinner, and tommorrow for lunch, I order your sauce and beef jerky online, all the time. You are the Hulk Hogan/Ric Flair/Steve Austin/Rock of commentators #1.
J.R. When you said about WWE going HD, what did you mean by the idea that we've most likely have seen the last of you and The King doing many on cameras during RAW? Could you elaborate on that? Thanks
First of all thanks for reading my comment if you do and I would love it if you e-mail me back sometime. Secondly I would like to say that I am really looking forward to the main event at the royal rumble(Ortan V Hardy).Because I have no clue whos gonna win this time reagully WWE makes it pretty easy to do. Hardy is the thing currently and it would be good how to see he dose as champ. But I have been hearing alot of buzz to "Orton v HHH" so Im gonna go with Orton. Also I was suprised to see all that pyro with JBL because I read a month or so ago on "www.pwheadlines.com" that they were cuting down on there pyro because of that smoke. I would like to get your thoughts on what you think of the Edge Vickie personaly I dont mind it because I know Eddie whois a top bloke would want whats best for the company and his family. Well thank you so much for reading this I am really thankful! P.S. My opinion is all wrong and there will be alot of spellin mistakes but Im only 11 but please e-mail back! Yours Truly Isaac Wiles.
