J.R., how’s it going? I have a question that I hope you could take the time to think about. What was your favorite match to call in your WWE announcing career? One that just pops into your head that you remembered right off? - Troy

Making this call is like saying “which of my children to I like better?” I have had the opportunity to call some awesome matches over several decades and to pick one is impossible.

Hi JR, sorry about the Sooners, but I’m a Notre Dame fan and I think I have it a little worse than you, but the Sooners did do okay against WVU. It was just that unstoppable WVU offense that stopped OU. I was wondering about your opinion on the choice for NFL coach of the year. Did you agree with the decision? Also, is Undertaker’s nephew still in the Middle East? That was brought up at WM19 I believe and I never heard anything else about it. Matt

Notre Dame is having a great recruiting season so one would think they will be back in the hunt and much improved in 2008. Charlie Weis needs to loosen up and smile occasionally though. He’s got a helluva job at his dream school making big bucks, but I hear from those that have dealt with him that Weis is tough to be around. I have not heard about Taker’s nephew being overseas.

Hey JR. How’s it going?
I’ve been a fan of women’s wrestling for years now and while so many people think they suck in the ring. I disagree. I know that the divas are more capable in the ring then how they are used. Mickie vs. Beth was a great match at Armageddon. Candice vs. Beth at Unforgiven was exceptional and saw moves not seen in the division since the days of Nakano and Blayze. I’ve also seem some of Candice, Beth’s, and Mickie’s house show matches and I must say if the WWE booked them like that with those women and even the others who can wrestle, then the fans would see Women’s wrestling differently for sure. On a side note, I hope Candice is doing better. I cannot wait to see her again and get in action. She’s a real trooper. Talk to ya later! Have a great 08! – Mike H

I would be careful comparing any America female wrestler with Bull Nakano in her prime. I am often too hard on women’s wrestling as there are some performers who are better than I acknowledge sometimes in the ring.

Hey, JR.
I gotta say, I respect your work as a commentator. if you ask me, you sound like the most realistic announcer in the WWE.

I wanted to know if you think when Matt Hardy returns, he might beat MVP for the US Championship? I like MVP and all, but I think he has had a bite of too much to chew. I think 8 months is too much for a newbie. In 2006, we had US title changes from JBL to Bobby Lashley to Finlay to Kennedy then to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and MVP even surpassed You-Know-Who’s reign. On another note, MVP keeps retaining his title by counting himself out? What the hell? - Jonny R

What the hell is right? You obviously have issues with tenured champions. I don’t. How are long term issues built if the title changes hands frequently?

Hi J.R.!

I’d like to say I really like your work and I’m not trying to suck up. I live in Quebec province and I was just thinking that it’s been a long time since WWE came here. I never had the occasion to watch a real show live and it would almost be a dream come true for me.

Second thing, I wanted to ask you how’s the best way to get autographs from superstars? I know you talked about hotels on your blog but do all the superstars stay in the same hotel? How does a fan know which one they’re in. - Pier-Luc

No, the wrestlers do not stay at the same hotel, but catching them at the right moment at the hotel, while they are not dining, or waiting in line at an airport will oftentimes work. It is a game of chance, but some fans seem to know where the wrestlers stay better than many of us in the company. Don’t ask me how, as I haven’t a clue.

Dear JR,
Who was your Raw Superstar of the Year for 2007? Thanks for responding to the fans. I think I actually prefer this format to the Ross Reports of old. – Mike

I’m not going there, my friend. All this does is make one person happy and P.O. the rest. Who was YOUR superstar of the year?

Hi JR,

I was wondering If WWE is considering Indianapolis as location for WrestleMania in the Future. Reason I’m asking is We are almost done with construction of Lucas Oil Stadium which will be the new home for the colts. It is set to be open August of this year.

I also was wondering about what hotel you & most of the talent usually stay at when doing show in Indy. I’ve heard so many different places thrown out & was hoping you could clear that up for me.

Thanks for entertaining em week after week on Raw & PPVS - Sincerley, Dustin

The WWE has a group of people that consider various sites for WrestleMania and they try and work a year or two in advance. I was in that loop at one time, but no longer am. I have a good idea where Mania will be in 2009, but that isn’t for public consumption -- as of yet.

Hi J.R.,

I enjoy reading your blogs. I was wondering… what do you feel it takes to make a good color commentator, and what do you recommend to someone who would like to try to pursue that role in wrestling. I figured your perspective as someone who has worked with some really great color commentators would be very useful to have! Renn O.

A quick wit, a thorough knowledge of the product, the ability to speak in sound bytes, passion, a sense of humor, having the ability to be produced and being told what to say, having the fundamental knowledge of how to verbally create stars. Getting experience in the independent circuit would be advantageous, as would working in any field of broadcasting, no matter the level or pay. Appearance is also a big issue, especially as we move into the future.

Hi JR, I like to consider myself a good armchair booker and would like to run a fantasy scenario by you. HBK wins the WWE championship on Raw - Ric Flair wins Royal Rumble and challenges HBK for the WWE title - Michaels makes a heel turn sometime before Wrestlemania by superkicking Flair and becomes friends with Mr. McMahon , As Mania nears an announcement is made saying a secret guest referee will be used for this match - Stephanie is given the task of recruiting the guest ref. Wrestlemania’s main event is set to begin, the two competitors are in the ring and it is time for the referee to be revealed. Mr. McMahon’s music plays and he enters the ring laughing at Flair ready to force Ric’s retirement but before he can ring the bell to start the match Steph announces there has been a last minute change and Vince will not be calling the match - old familiar music begins to play and Bret Hart comes down the ramp in a ref’s shirt, the match begins with the action going back and forth with the Hitman calling a very fair down the middle match, as the match gets longer HBK gets frustrated as he cannot keep Naitch down for the count and starts complaining and gets aggressive towards Bret, Michaels knocks Ric out of the ring and as Bret tries to move Shawn back from the ropes so he count Ric out Shawn attempts to superkick him but Bret is able to counter and places Shawn in the sharpshooter ( with no real harm being done to Bret due to his health conditions), Michaels taps out to no avail, when Ric starts to reenter the ring Bret releases the hold without Ric seeing what was happening in the ring, with HBK already down in pain Ric applies the figure four and HBK taps out to end the match, now Hart has screwed Michaels. The next night on Raw the Hitman is in the ring to congratulate the now 17 time champ - HBK comes to the ring looking pissed but then does a surprise face turn and holds his hand out to both Flair and Hart telling Bret they are now even and it is time to bury the hatchet Bret agrees and shakes the offered hand. Now Ric announces he is retiring and going out on his terms not Vince’s as the unbeaten 17 time world champion. The championship is now vacant and a tournament to fill it can be started.

I know this is all just fantasy but I would greatly appreciate your thoughts of this scenario. Thank you for taking the time to read this. - Alan

Interesting and intriguing scenario, but impossible to execute, which makes it purely fantasy, but nice thinking nonetheless - especially if this were 10 years or so ago.

Hey J.R, I was watching an old PPV on tape, and you were interviewing Jerry Lynn who was at times square, he cut a promo and said was that good enough for you JR. Was this a character thing or was that a “shoot”. Also your thought on Paul London and an Australian TV and PPV show. Thanks – Matthew

I don’t recall the Jerry Lynn interview, but I have never had anything but respect for Jerry’s ability so I suspect he was just in “character”. Paul London is somewhat underutilized, as is Brian Kendrick and I am a fan of their in ring work. We have worn the Australian question flat out. I really don’t know, but common sense would indicate that someday the WWE will have a PPV from the land down under.

Hello JR.
Long time fan first time writer-in-er. first off I want to say that you looked good on the sidelines while ur boomer sooners played my mountaineers. ( I hope we can still be friends.)
Anyway to my question, what is going on with the tag team wrestling? I love a good tag match. The WWE has some awesome talented tag teams. My question is, why is tag team wrestling not getting a push like it did back in the mid to late 90s. There are some amazing teams that should be pushed.

Thanks for taking the time out of your very busy week to read these. I am a huge fan of your. I always have been and always will be. Even though my boys from WV beat yall…………. BOOMER SOONERS……………LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS. – aaron

O.K. I got it… YOUR Mountaineers beat MY Sooners. Congratulations as the best team won. I think the reason that there isn’t more exciting tag team wrestling is the lack of overall depth within the business and to make the roster have more depth, fewer stars are put into tag team scenarios. I think however that if the tag teams developed personal issues and were provided more TV time on a regular and ongoing basis that some stars would spin out of the tag scene and become individual superstars.

JR, - First of all, totally agree with you on the Fiesta Bowl. While I could hear cries of anger all throughout my workplace that night, hats off to West Virginia. They played a good ballgame when not a lot of people gave them a chance, and I think they made a good selection with their new head coach… he certainly deserved it. It’s also good to see another OU fan being gracious about our losses.

I recently had an opportunity to watch the World Class DVD, and it was a tremendous piece of work. Growing up in Lawton, we got World Class shows in town fairly often, and even though they were Texans, the Von Erich’s were just as much heroes to us. It also brought back a lot of memories of watching the TV show with my parents, including that horrible day when they announced David had died. Even with that, it was a great release, and everyone involved with it did a great job. I think my only “complaint”, if you can call it that, is that I wanted more. Hopefully, we’ll see more World Class showing up somewhere down the line.

Watching it brought back memories of one of my all time favorites, “Iceman” King Parsons. He was fun to watch in the ring, probably one of the best talkers ever, and, from what I heard from a lot of people who met him, a great guy outside the ring. I was always surprised he never made it bigger. What was your take on him? Keep up the great work! – Steve

The WWE has access to the complete WCCW library, so one would think that material would be a staple on WWE 24/7 for years to come. I see more World Class oriented DVDs being released in the future as well. Iceman was a solid in ring hand, but a better talker than a wrestler in my opinion. “It be’s that way, some time,” as Ice Man used to say.

Hey JR!

Question. Maybe my memory is failing me, but I was watching WWE 24/7, and I saw the debut of the Undertaker at the Survivor Series many years ago. I clearly remember seeing that live at the time, and correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the Undertaker originally announced to the crowd as “Kane the Undertaker”? If so, this has been edited by WWE. I was wondering if you could clarify this for me. Is it possible they quickly dropped the Kane part of the name, and then recycled it later for a new character? - Rowdy Ron

I think upon further review, the officials decided to simply go with “The Undertaker” w/o the name. I don’t think there is anything wrong with your memory.

Hello JR and belated Happy New Year!!

Just like your Sooners, my Buckeyes tasted defeat in their big game against LSU last night. Kinda sucked that this is now 2 years in a row. Depending on what the “Little Animal” does, if he goes pro, I hope Laurinitis stays for his senior year. To see him play in LA in September against USC would be a treat.

It’s amazing how the SEC is such a dominant conference in college football. Hard to stop them on many levels. With Petrino going to Arkansas, that should be interesting. Hope Stoops and your Sooners will be strong in the ‘08 season, as well as my Buckeyes.

During the commercial breaks and halftime, I watched RAW Roulette as much as I could. Great HHH-Regal match, and the finishing move from Jeff Hardy in the cage match was unbelievable. I don’t know how he does it. Have a strange feeling sometime this year he WILL be WWE champion. Look forward to the Royal Rumble from MSG. I remember 8 years ago when Tazz made his debut. Is Lashley due back by then? Also, with the WWE HD coming up, does that mean now that all broadcasts will be in the HD widescreen-like format that you see on some shows now?

Sincerely,
Jason

OU has 9 starters coming back on offense and 8 coming back on defense, unless some defect for the NFL and none are ready, but money talks. If “Little Animal” is going to go in the first round, especially the upper half of the first round, then James needs to take the cash and run. As I have mentioned before, I do not know if Lashley will be back by the Rumble even though it would be a nice spot to make an impact.

Hello JR! I just finished watching the World Class DVD and I wanted your thoughts on Gary Hart. I think he is an amazing story teller and I could listen to him talk all day. He still has a great mind and I would love to see him working for the WWE in some capacity. Happy New Year! - Andy M from Illinois

A one time, Gary Hart was one of the very best managers in the biz. Bill Watts once told me that when Hart was on top of his game he was hard to beat and could verbalize with the best of them. Gary Hart created a legitimate aura that encouraged fans to genuinely dislike him and fans would pay to see him and his wrestlers destroyed. That emotion is largely missing today. I am sure that Gary could contribute creatively with any company, but sometimes it is really challenging for “old timers” to survive in the corporate world of which they are unaccustomed.

Hi JR,
I watched some old Tazz matches and I love them every time I see them. Tazz’s career ended in 2002 right? Can you please tell me why? He had a broken neck in ECW, that could be a factor. I think Tazz does a great job as a commentator, but in the ring, he was amazing. I would be happy about an answer and respect to you. After all the years, you are still the best. Greetings from Germany
Thorsten

Injuries shortened Tazz’s wrestling career. I am sure he would have preferred to go out on his terms, but that, unfortunately are the breaks of the game sometime. If Tazz had remained healthy he would have had a great run in the WWE, despite his critics saying he was too short, which I personally never bought into.

Hi, J.R.!
I have got a question regarding football stars like Bill Goldberg, Monty Brown (Marcus Cor Von) and Bob Sapp. Do you think they really have a place in professional wrestling? Also , what about people from other sports (boxing, judo, karate, etc.) And talking about Bob Sapp, I heard, WWE would like to have him for their tour in Japan since he is a huge star there (former IWGP Champion). Do you think there is a chance to see him on WWE TV? -Oscar

I do not personally know if Bob Sapp wants to make the physical commitment to become a wrestling star. I do like wrestlers who come from successful tenures in other sports or with extensive sports backgrounds getting into wrestling, but only if their hearts are in it.

Hey JR, Happy New Year. Great blog as always. I’ve noticed that sometimes you seem largely critical of your heel performances in 1996 and 1999. I must beg to differ. I thought in both showings, you were amazingly passionate, and as Mick Foley advises in his first book, genuinely believed your motives as a bad guy in order to make it convincing.

It just sprung to mind particularly with all the recent Raw XV stuff recently, I wouldn’t be overstating it if I said I thought your 1996 promo where you aired your grievances with Vince and the WWF then you reintroduced Razor Ramon is probably in my top 5 ever. I hope you don’t mind me being a bit intrusive, I just wondered what particularly bothers you about your performances? Many thanks, Mike H, England

There was nowhere to go with that scenario of J.R . being a bad guy. There was no pay off. I wasn’t going to become a wrestler and I felt I was cast in that role by people, more or less out of spite, because they knew I had no desire to become an in-ring performer whether it be a good guy or a bad guy. It was short term, near-sighted booking that had no pay off and was merely a TV ploy to perhaps enhance ratings.

Hey J.R., Is the WWE ever going back to letting the wrestlers do unscripted material on the mic? I saw a Shawn Michaels interview in Montreal the other day from 1997, I think, that was great and refreshing for me as a fan & maybe the best one ever done in the WWE. Also is the WWE going away from the Tag Team division? I miss the days off Demolition, Hart Foundation, Hardy’s, edge & Christen, New age outlaws.

You’re the man, thanks. - Rob

I could see factions and groups coming back, before I could see young wrestlers going out on their own and verbalizing their own promos.

Happy Birthday JR. The Match in which Randy Savage hurt his ankle and took his boot off was against Bret Hitman Hart, not Ricky the Dragon Steamboat. - Johnny

Thanks Johnny for clearing that up.

That’s it for this time but I encourage your succinct comments and questions to keep coming. Plus I think everyone who reads our site should have a “Big Nuts” T shirt….but that’s just me.

BOOMER SOONER!

J.R.

Hi Mr. Ross, I just finished watching The Legends of Wrestling - The Territories. I must say it was a great discussion. It was very intriguing, entertaining and educational to listen to. I look forward to watching more of The Legends of Wrestling round table discussions as it gives a great look back on the vast history of professional wrestling. Kind regards, Patrick Doucette.
Hello JR!! We had visited your BBQ restaurant in Norman the day before the Royal Rumble PPV; my wife had the brisket & bologna & I had the ribs..Awesome! We're sorry we did'nt get the chance to talk to you before you left for the weekend in NYC. We had the best experience in a long time & rest assured, we will return & hope to get a chance to talk to you soon. From big WWE fans in Claremore, OK to you, much continued success!!
Hi JR I was just wondering what your feelings are on classic WWE moments seemingly being forgotten about because of outside influences. For example on the Raw 15th anniversary DVD as good as it was I couldn't help but feel like some great matches and segments were missed such as the RAW debut of the Radicalz. Also on the Rey Mysterio DVD it completely overlooked the part of his career where he was unmasked. As much as I disagreed with the decision to unmask Rey and i'm aware of how much he probably dislikes that part of his career he still had a number of amazing matches during this period. Obviously in many cases WWE's hands are tied in these situations and they do not make these decisions without good reason but I was just wondering if you personally had an opinion on this? Keep up the great work.
Hey JR! I was just wondering a couple of things.Oh, just a heads up, I can't spell well, so some words will be spelled wrong. One, where are all the wemon anouncers!!!!!!!!! I would love to be a WWE anouncer. The second thing is at your restruant, what is your favorite thing to eat? I might go down there sometime this summer, and I wondered what was the best. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! Meg
Hey JR...Just wanted to say I've watched you call matches since the NWA/WCW days and you're one of the best along side Solie and Gorilla Monsoon. This is a 3 part question: Speaking of WCW, will there ever be a history of WCW dvd? I'm not talking just Bischoff/Nitro. I mean like the original days when it was Road Warriors, Barry Windham, Horsemen, Great Muta, Freebirds? 2nd is Julio Jones. I know he was down to Oklahoma and Bama (which I'm a Bammer) where do you think he'll end up bi signing day? 3rd is I heard an internet rumor, and you know the internet never lies (rolls eyes) but it said you and Tony Schiavone don't like each other? Care to Comment....Thanks and Roll Tide and Boomer Sooner for u
Hi Good Ol' JR! I just wanted to wish you a belated happy birthday, and also ask you one question about Shawn Michaels. I've been watching wrestling for 20 years now, as I was 2 years old on my father's knee watching. Most girls had teddy bears, but I had Wrestling Buddies (Does anyone remember those?). HBK has been one of my favorites for as long as I can remember. It's great to see him back, and his entrance is still one of the best in the business. Do you have any idea what he says to the crowd (and to himself) during his entrance? He most likely prays to himself, but he says something to the crowd and I've been trying to figure it out for the longest time. Thanks again JR for being the best in the business. It's been a pleasure growing up to your voice, and I'm excited for my future child in June to grow up with your voice as well.
Hi JR, Shawn Michaels new leg submission move looks awesome..It looks like a figure four..What is it called?
Hi J.R, There are alot of well respected wrestlers who have often critisized Triple H for using hill pull in the locker room due to the fact his married to Stephanie. Alot of people believe he's great but is just not as talented as a Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Undetaker, etc. I know you aren't going to comment on this too much so you wan't get into high waters, but what is your opinion on these many wrestlers accusations?
JR you know how rumors are whats going on with Bobby Lashley..... There are reports that's he done with the company
Hey JR, Just to clarify a statement made by another fan...and hopefully to add some knowledge: I remember watching Undertaker's debut at Survivor Series years ago. At the time, he was introduced by Ted Dibiase with the following quote: "Let towards the ring, by his manager, Brother Love, From Death Valley, weighing 328 pounds, I give you, The Undertaker." I do recall a short time right after Undertaker's introduction that he was called Kane, The Undertaker...and I also remember that didn't last for very long. At any rate, Undertaker's debut at Survivor Series saw no mention of the name Kane to answer that gentleman's question. Jim
Mr. Ross, I just wanted to say congrats on your new two year deal! I was also wondering do people from Oklahoma like hockey?
Ive heard of the possibility of a draft after Wrestlemania who would you like to see on RAW?
Well done to the staff at the WWE who designed the new set it is really impressive. What is your view on it?
Mr. Ross, i have a question and a comment. the question concerns a Raw superstar; Paul London. he's one of my personal favourites. what is disturbing is that i haven't seen him in a match since early december when he fought charlie haas. he 'injured' his shoulder in said match, i don't know if this was kayfabe or not. regardless he hasn't done anything in over a month. i'm curious as to what happened to him. my comment is about the, what now seems defunct, cruiser weight title. i've heard other people, including yourself, say that it wasn't really one of the important titles. sir i must respectfully disagree. i personally love the cruiserweights and hate when they compete for heavyweight titles. it loses entertainment when a 180 pound guy beats the hell out of someone 3 times his size. i always gave the cruiserweight belt the same respect as the heavyweight. it was the ultimate goal for guys under 215 in weight. now for whatever reason no one has any respect for the smaller guys and they're being weeded out. i have my favourites who are bigger, but i don't always want to see two gargantuans slugging it out in the ring. i like the speed, quickness and agility that's held only by cruisers. in short i think these amazing athletes have gotten a bum-wrap. and (not to offend yourself) people are fools to shortchange these characters. -Ryan
With wrestlemainia on the horizion soon to follow will be another draft. JR as a fan of football what do you think of doing more of a football style draft by taking some of the guys ready to come up from the development system and have them appear on raw to show off their talents. Have all three group managers bid over them maybe even have somthing like one of the shows getting a first draft pick off a wrestlmaina match. That would be kinda neat to see.
Hi JR I really admire you, tou are the best for me, now I want to ask you a question, Is the WWE searching for talents in South America?, if that is true, How do they search good wrestlers? I'm from Colombia and I'm an amateur wrestler, so I want to know Thanks for reading and you're the best announcer of the world
J.R., I recently got the WWE 24/7 service, and I am so blown away by the content, I can't recommend it enough. One thing that really caught me off guard, though, was watching a late 80s/early 90s WCW pay per view and hearing the voice of what sounded like a high-pitched exciteable young rookie announcer during the intro, but when the camera panned in from the crowd to the announcers, that "rookie" was you! I'm old enough to have probably watched that pay-per-view at the time, but obviously it's more of a jolt of comparison to suddenly jump back 15 or so years in time and hear your voice then as opposed to now. My question is, was there a moment you realized your voice was growing lower in timbre or was it a gradual process? Did the health problems you've been so candid about having over the years affect the tonality of your speaking voice? (please don't think I'm trying to be "cute" or disrespectful here; Elvis and Sinatra had lower voices 15-20 years into their careers as well, so you're in very good company, I just found it a curious and somewhat startling comparison of your voice over the years....do you think the same thing when you hear your old play-by-plays from that era?) Thanks in advance for your answer, you are truly the gold standard of announcers!
JR- Your college football expertise is always well-informed and insightful, thanks for always sharing it. There's been a lot of talk of the idea of a college football playoffs that crowns a true champion. Personally, I think it'd be one of the biggest things in sports if they did this. I believe you stated before you were a fan of the idea, so how do you feel this would work best in terms of structure, dates, etc.?
About HHH being one of only 2 guys to win both the WWE and IC Titles simultaneously, that is not entirely true. HHH had the World Title when he won the IC, not the WWE. I know you were probably given this fact by someone else beforehand so it is not your fault, but technically it was a different title. Also, you mentioned last night Paul London taking time off to heal. When and how was he injured? Now a fantasy booking question: if you could match any WWE superstar or tag team against any superstar or tag team currently in TNA, what matches would you like to see?
Hey JR, Just wondering if you would give your two cents on what went wrong with the Hebner / WWE relationship. Both Dave and Earl seemed like model WWE employees for years and then out of the blue they were gone. Both Hebners have been quite verbal in interviews and this just seems like one broken relationship which is hard to understand. Also wanted to see if you think Howard Finkel, Earl Hebner and Joey Marella should be considered for WWE HOF inductions.
J.R, I love the DVD's that have been released since the WWE purchased the tape libraries of different federations I love the documentaries but there are three DVD's that i think would be "must-sees" one on Harley Race, one on Ricky Steamboat and a History Of The WWE Tag Team Championships and a Greatest Tag Teams Of All Time Ok that's 4 I know. I hope Bobby Heenan is doing better he is one of the funniest if not the funniest performers in wrestling and if I had my choice for the next Celebrity inductee into the Hall Of Fame it would be Bob Uecker hands down. Take care J.R and my best to the Missus. Dan
JR, I think you're the best play-by-play man the WWE has ever seen, and I'd just like to ask you a quick question about one of the best color commentators I think the WWE has ever seen: Jerry Lawler. Do you know what, if anything, caused The King to transform from an acid-tongued heel in the 90s to a very neutral, almost face-like announcer in the past few years? This is just my opinion, but he seemed much more entertaining as a counterpoint to you/Vince, than as someone who more or less just agrees with you now. Was this a move prompted by "the front office", or was it of his own accord? Thanks! -Joe
I have been thinking for a while now, with all the original ECW fans that complained about WWE using the name, do you think a name change would be in the best interest for the brand? And if so, what would you call it? Also on the note of ECW changes; with all the old ROH talent that WWE has picked up, do you think it would be possible to make ECW a more "indy styled" brand to provide a greater variety to the overall WWE product?
Hey J.r., Couple of questions real quick. 1. Is Raw or any other WWE event scheduled to come back to the Ford center in Okc anytime soon? 2. Im a broadcaster and am curious as to the best way to get into Broadcsting in Sports Entertainment.Any thoughts? OKC'S own , Jeff Jaymes
jr i am mad at timewarner cable/ brighthouse networks they refuse to get wwe 24 7.
Dear Jr, How come the wwe training camp has wrestlers like Ace Steal and Colt Cabana getting trained more? What do you think of a C.M. Punk vs. Edge Match? I know that I would love to see that. I heard on the internet that the wwe is interested in Nigel McGuinness what do you think of that? I know Nigel and he is a great wrestler from England and Les Thatcher trained him. Jr who was the originally Golden Boy? Before Paul Christy. My grandpa knows him so do I. Do you think that Terry Funk will be in the hall of fame yet?
Hey JR! I love reading your blogs. I was wondering if St. Louis is on the WWE's craplist now. It's been a while since you guys have been here and there are no events lined up anytime soon. To reference Carlito... "that's not cool!" haha any insight you have would be greatly appreciated. Also, I just wanted to say that I truely miss Sensational Sherri, and it's so extremely sad that she passed away. She paved the way for female wrestlers and managers in this business. Even though she was an amazing wrestler, I actually enjoyed her as a manager even more. Her mic skills were awesome in my opinion, and I have yet to see another woman come close to what she had to offer as a manager. Any thoughts and/or memories of Sherri you can share? I think the wwe should bring back more male managers too! Matt Striker is an awesome talent, regardless of what people think of him, and I'd love to see more managers around to help elevate some superstars careers and to antagonize the crowd and the good guys! Thanks for everything you do, JR! You're awesome! Matt
It's been established that there is a huge market for television shows on DVD. Is there a chance that Saturday Night's Main Event will be released as a complete set? Or the Clash of the Champions, for that matter?
Actually JR, Bob Sapp was doing wrestling pretty much full-time for a while in Japan, so i guess you could call him a star(in Japan none the less). I recently watched the OMEGA:Uncommon Passion DVD and it really seems that Matt Hardy has a real brain for the business(but a bit to much passion for throwing dirt on the internet). Could you see him working the curtains after his in-ring career is done?
Hi Mr. Ross, I know you hear it a lot but I'm a big fan of yours and I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to interact with your fans and answer questions. I've always been a huge fan of the WWE. As much as I am a fan of the wrestling, I am just as big a fan of the production of WWE shows. With WWE's recent upgrade to HD, I was wondering if you might be able to talk about what it's been like for you to watch the WWE evolve production-wise over the years with all the big sets, pyro, lighting, ect.? After all, you have had the best seat in the house (well...at least on nights when you don't have a 300 lb wrestler crashing through your table lol). Also, what type of relationship do the behind the scenes people (such as the cameramen & other production crew members) have with the superstars and other on air talent? Thanks again for your time.
Hi J.R., I've got three questions for you and I want to be succinct, so I'll get right to them (great blog btw!) 1. With women's wrestling being a firmly established staple in the WWE, has there been any attempt made to acquire the library of footage from the G.L.O.W (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) promotion? Any idea who owns the footage? 2. Are your surprised that the Giants are in the Superbowl and what do you think their chances are of pulling the upset over the Patriots? 3. Is there any chance the WWE might branch off and start up an MMA promotion given MMA's massive popularity, or is there pretty much zero chance of that happening? Take care!
Hey JR, first off I want to congratulate you on all of your success, you and John Madden are the two voices from my childhood that all future announcers will be measured to. My question is do you foresee any chance of the WWE doing cross-promotion with other companies (such as NJPW or ROH) like you did with ECW back in the day?
Will Bobby Lashley be in the Royal Rumble? He would a great winner as well. I hope that Jeff Hardy does not win the WWE title this Sunday because this would make the weakest champion ever. More then 90% of the roster is better then he is. Only guys who are not are Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntrye, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Curt Hawkins, Funaki, Hornswaggle, Shannon Moore, Zack Ryder, Balls Mahoney, Kevin Thorn, and The Miz. Jeff Hardy is only where he is not because he is one of the wrestlers but because he is way over the fans then again that's all that really counts. But most of his wins are barely believable. Hardy beat Umega two weeks ago that was a joke.
J.R., I'm just curious if you think another wrestling organization (we won't name any right now) has a chance to rise up and challenge W.W.E. in the coming three to five years. I think it's very likely, and here's why: 1. Rivalries create interest. Fans WANT the WWE to be challenged. Not because they don't like the WWE. But because they want something to compare it to. It's no coincidence the wrestling business was booming when WWF and WCW were on top of their games, together. 2. If a company can build a solid financial base, with TV contracts, etc. the talent is out there to compete. WWE can't hire them all. WWE won't even be able to keep all of the talent they have happy. If another company legitimately emerges as a challenger (one is in the process of doing so in my opinion) then wrestlers will begin to move back and forth for better opportunities. It will happen. The wrestling business is not like the NFL, where an expansion team would have no chance to compete. There are Indy wrestlers, and lesser utilized WWE performers with the ability to become stars. And they will seek out opportunities if they don't get them in the WWE. And they won't because even the WWE doesn't have enough programs to satisfy all of them. WWE has the gig right now. They get just about who they want, when they want, and under what conditions they want them. It won't be that way much longer. What do you think? (And no, I'm not suggesting anyone will ever TAKE DOWN the WWE. Just that a legitimate competitor will emerge soon.)
hey j.r., i just would like to know why the wwe and vince mcmahon in particular will not allow one of their legendary superstars, "macho man" randy savage to enter the wwe hall of fame, have shot down a deal to have a legends figure made for him,and will not make a dvd of his career. what is the reason for the bitter relationship? also,is there a book coming out about andre the giant? thanks, brian s.
Hey J.R. First off, congreats on your new contract, or the contract you are about to sign. You certainly deserve it, and wrestling isn't the same without you doing the play by play. I basically have a comment, the booking for the Rumble this year has been outstanding and perfect. The best part about it is no New Year's Revolution to be used. In the past three years, NYR was in between Armageddon and Rumble, but now there was so much focus on Rumble the night after Armageddon, it really focuses in the importantance of the show and the event, because after all, the winner of the Rumble gets that main event slot at Wrestlemania. Plus with Hardy showing all of us what he can do in a main event build, I hope this means Jeff will get the chance at the title sometime this year. He has earned it, not only due to his past demons, but he has also picked up his mic work to set up the title match with Orton. Plus it's good to see JBL come back into the ring, and Jericho is a good first angle for John to come back with. That match should be good as well. Kevin Gillman Canton, Ohio
I want the Undertaker to win the Royal Rumble but my pick is Triple H only because Vince was doing everything he could to keep him out of it. I'm glad Big Show and Ron Killings are back. But I could hand pick any wrestler to win I would chose Kane. When will Matt Hardy and Gregory Helms be back? Where has Steven Richards been? However, a real shocker winning the Rumble would be Big Show on his return. Or Ric Flair winning the match and going to Wrestlemania. Festus needs to be added to match.
now that the superbowl is set i think the pats will finish the greatest season in pro football ever! The pats look unstoppable find different ways to win games! 19-0 and the pats will be the greatest team ever to play in the NFL! They will pass the 80's niners 70's steelers 90's cowboys! its just amazing as a fan to watch this! Of course if the giants somehow win the game the pats season is for not
JR - is there a chance WWE might for an evening of sports entertainment have a decent championship match that is three falls, 60 minute time limit. Of course you would have to have two very talented wrestlers who could bring the crowd and work the heat. I remember watching matches like those years ago when guys like Verne Gagne, Antonio Rocca, Red Bastien, Hans Schmidt, Johnny Tolos, etc, gave the audience a good night of entertainment. Thanks --
jr is the sting dvd still in the works hes the best wrestler no matter if hes with tna are not? Why does vince pick at you your the best commentator?
Hey JR! I am a huge fan of yours and I think what is even greater is that you are as upstanding outside the ring/announce table as you are inside. I have one question and I hope this has not been asked before and if so, please ignore it. Do you happen to know how and what Monty Brown (Marcus Cor Von) is doing right now? I understand he had some personal issues that required him to depart from the company. While I was upset at this because I believed that Cor Von had "mega-potential" written all over him (I highly recommend some of his promos from TNA on YouTube), family comes first. Anyway, take care! Have a great day! :)
Hello JR, I remember you said something on this blog about an April Fools joke that Bobby "The Brain" Heenan pulled at a Hall of Fame. What was the Joke and how is The Brain doing today after his surgery?
Was that comment about the San Diego Chargers on this past Monday's Raw really necessary? You know as well as I do that if Rivers, LT, and Gates were 100% they would've had a huge chance at beating New England.
Hey , J.R I Love the way WWE is giving Jeff a chance but i just don't see the WWE championship around him. He is exciting to watch but he is not that great of a wrestler to be champion period. Im 19 and i just wanna know what happend to those legendary day's when u coulden't miss a RAW ? I just hope JBL whens the title back so the real wwe championship title can return ! JBL and Jericho are the ones realy keeping me glued to my seat. AS A Traditional fan one of them should Main event Wrestle Mania !Tell Shawn Micheals The fans want the 2004 Shawn back, not attitude just wrestling attire.
Hi JR I was wondering why WWE never had a big Japanese star. I mean a real world champion who main evented shows and all. Correct me if this isn’t true. I think Japanese wrestlers are probably the best at what they are doing. I really love Tajiri and it would have been great if he at least held the Intercontinental Title for a few months. Another WWE Japanese that I liked is of course Ultimo Dragon. It’s sad the WWE didn’t use him like they maybe should have done. But I heard the main reason for him signing with the WWE was because he wanted to wrestle at MSG and at a Wrestlemania. I would understand that. I really admire the Ultimo Dragon. So, do you think a Japanese wrestler could be a world champion one day? And who would you like to see? I also love watching Jimmy Yang but I doubt he will be World Champ. I would be happy about an answer. Much love and respect from Germany Thorsten
Hi JR Congrats on your new contract with WWE. Do they give tours at WWE Headquarters? Care to give a Superbowl prediction?
Hiya J.R., Okay here is a really stupid question - what will WWE do with the old Smackdown 'giant fist' set? Does someone from the office get to keep it? Would they sell it on ebay? I'd bet there is someone out there who might actually buy it and put it in their barn as a souvenir hahahahaha! Take care sir, Brad
