Bar-B-Q Expansion Plans.. Beef Jerky.. Dan Gable… Adrian Peterson.. more

My sincere thanks to many of you for the kind remarks regarding our last blog. Your support does and has always been uplifting and appreciated. Being a lifelong fan, I have always felt a kinship with wrestling fans. So, when a real fan of the business, a fan who likes the biz in the good times and the not so good times, reaches out to us with positive feedback, it simply validates my passion for the product.

We have had lots of questions about our soon to be opened, May 2007, Bar-B-Q eatery in Norman, Oklahoma. We are going to be a full service restaurant that will seat about 150. Our meats, including ribs, brisket, pulled pork, bologna, hot links, turkey, ham, and chicken will all be slow smoked the old school way. We will also have loaded baked spuds, large salads with a variety of toppings, dinners, sandwiches, and a unique selection of appetizers. The place will feature a great selection of memorabilia I have collected over the years from the wrestling business and my love of football. We have some really neat stuff that will, along with great food, make the entire experience an enjoyable one. We will also be doing take out food and will eventually be shipping many menu items directly to your home, of course depending on where you reside, because of restrictions many countries have on shipping certain products since 911. We will also sell our sauces in the store, as well as merchandise. We plan on having several flat screen TVs, some tuned to wrestling DVDs, and of course we will have Monday Night Raw on, which should come as no surprise. All WWE programming will air in our place. Also, we plan on franchising our concept in the future, so if our gameplan goes as we perceive it will, there could be J.R.’s Bar-B-Q places anywhere in the world, no different than any other franchised restaurant you see in your area. We have already gotten some positive feedback from companies who own other concepts and are interested in ours. Time will tell, but I really feel that exciting times lie ahead for J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q.

Tenechia - The Rock at Wrestlemania 25? A long shot.

Scotty - I am always surprised when there is physicality at the announce table. I wouldn’t want to know, even if it were always possible.

Sean- Kurt Angle in the WWE HOF someday? Wouldn’t surprise me. Let’s see how the journey unfolds.

Chris M. - The “spear” vs. a “tackle.” Good points.

TJ - Snitsky to the next level? Could happen if the big guy continues to improve. He’s an athlete.

Nancy 32 - No Hulk, No ‘Mania for you? I think you will be disappointed you don’t buy the PPV.

Pasadena Joe - I think I answered all your Bar-B-Q questions at the top of this blog. The Jerky will be ready to go in a week or two at the most. I have been tasting it and it is good..real good. And that’s no sales pitch or B.S.

Corey - I was not in Iowa at the Gable Museum, but would love to visit sometime. Gable is one of my heroes and was a great man when I met him.

Kim - an Okie in the northeast. I will pray for you. Yes, ‘Mania 20 was a memorable show. Lesnar and Goldberg had a tough night at the office.

Dan - I understand your comments about dumb things we commentators say. You have to understand, we are often told things to say in our headsets or have been instructed to position certain things accordingly. In other words, when a play is called, we run it, or one finds himself benched. That’s no fun.

Richard - I suggested to King that Bob Zmuda as Tony Clifton would be a hoot inducting Jerry into the HOF. Each HOFer selects the person he or she wants to induct them, as I understand it. Jim Carrey is filming a movie and is unavailable.

Terry - I never thought of this HOF as AWA themed but I can certainly see your point. I don’t think that was the intention.

B.J.- I remember Gino Hernandez well and yes ye was very talented. Paul Boesch, the Houston promoter, loved Gino who loved to party, and party hard. I remember Gino telling me he was going to Vegas to hook up with Farrah Fawcett way back in the day (the early 80s). Gino lived life in the fast lane, which more often than not ends with a crash. Nonetheless, Gino was a natural in-ring performer.

Jeaux - I have not tried Hillybilly’s BBQ in New Orleans, but thanks for the heads up. I love Dookie Chase’s and the Commander’s Palace in N.O. Hopefully, some day the WWE will have a big event in the ‘Dome and I can eat until my heart’s content on the great New Orleans food.

Adam - The WWE is a Global brand and that means to me that any territory is ripe for a PPV. Australia is a HUGE WWE priority and I am looking forward to the day we do a PPV there. I think it is a lock. The question is when and I don’t have that answer.

Robbie - Wrestlers are not fined for injuring other wrestlers unless a pattern develops. If one can’t solve a problem the problem is eliminated.

Jon - I am not familiar with Mistico, but I read where he wrestled in San Jose Tuesday afternoon. I hear he is talented and if he is, I see no reason he should not be considered for a job in the biggest company of its kind in the world.

Dan S.- My sources tell me that Memphis Smoke BBQ in Detroit is good. I have not tried it, but might try and get by there, time permitting, while I am in the Motor City.

Houston - My favorite sports moment, that I have personally witnessed, has to be the 2001 Orange Bowl game where Oklahoma won the National Title over a heavily favored Florida State team. I watched the game from the Sooner sideline with Lee Roy Selmon, Brian Bosworth, and Billy Sims, which put me in Sooner heaven. Sooners win 13-2 for Bob Stoops’ first National Championship.

Sinister - My favorite John Wayne memorabilia includes the hat Duke wore in “She Wore A Yellow Ribbon,” his cigarette lighter, 3 pair of his cuff links, and one of his personally monogrammed western shirts. There will be some John Wayne and some Mickey Mantle collectables in our new Bar-B-Q place.

Pete - Who is the best UK wrestler? Tough question. It’s hard to not include the British Bulldogs and Billy Robinson. Plus, Lord Alfred Hayes was excellent in his day, Johnny Eagles (Roy Boyd) was skilled and William Regal is VERY underrated. Pound for pound, the Dynamite Kid may have been at the top of the list. I never saw Jackie Pallo or the early stars of UK TV. Interesting question.

Simon - Wrestling is not unlike any sport or Hollywood, when it comes to creating new superstars. There is no “superstar producing machine,” unfortunately, as it takes a special human being at the right place, at the right time to make it to the top level of the biz.

Kyle - My all time favorite Sooner QB has to be Heisman winner Jason White, fav RB, Billy Sims, and top wide receiver, Mark Clayton. This is a challenging question and I feel guilty answering it because of the guys I left out. I luv my team!

AJ - The “Edge leaving the WWE rumors” don’t hold water to me. Edge has a HOF career started going in the WWE. Look for the Ontario native to be wearing WWE gold again, much sooner than later.

John/Scotland - I don’t think the days of great tag teams are over, there just aren’t too many established, experienced tag teams headlining cards these days. I do think this issue is easily correctable and some young tag teams currently competing, have the chance to be awfully good.

Webster - I don’t know specifically what the policy is for a wrestler with epilepsy. However, a compete physical would have to be passed to be able to be licensed, which is where the rub might come in. It may be more of a state athletic department issue, than a company issue. I really don’t know the answer.

Wesley - Will Ashley be at Wrestlemania in a match? The ‘Mania 23 card has yet to be completely finalized, to the best of my knowledge, but with Ashley in Playboy, I would bet a case of Bar-B-Q sauce she’s on the card in some shape, form, or fashion.

We appreciate your business and thanks for shopping at our store. We now have Slobber-Knocker caps without the “Sooner” on them and many of them I have autographed if that means anything to you. Remember, the Beef Jerky is coming very soon!!

Boomer Sooner!
