Bar-B-Q Restaurant Update.. Football Talk.. Dumbass Millionaires.. Harley Race.. Favre #4!.. Flair Retirement Rumors.. Old Schoo

Thanks for stopping by and checking out our website. Many of you are becoming regulars which we appreciate and I hope you will tell a friend about our ever growing site and our line of products. Over the next several weeks this site will be undergoing many positive changes which are exciting for all involved. After our “J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurant” opens on Wednesday July 11, this site will add more areas of interest that I hope you will all enjoy. This was a busy week at our Bar-B-Q place as the kitchen staff was busy making all the items from our menu. We had friends in to order from the menu and then have the cooks make the meals to check for food quality, presentation, and timeliness of getting the food to the guests. I equate these days, prior to the restaurant opening, to football two-a-days as we prepare for our first “official game” on July 11. All is really going well thus far in our preparation. We have installed 8 big, flat screen TVs plus all the booths and tables are in place and it looks like we will be able to seat between 130-140 people comfortably. Our smoker is the size that can smoke 140 slabs of ribs at one time plus the brisket, pulled pork, hot links, chicken, turkey, and the old red neck standby, smoked bologna that we will be smoking on the premises. Soon we will have photos of our place here on the site for you to take a peek at and we are also planning on doing a virtual tour of the place after it opens. I met with the servers this past week during their orientation and stressed that we wanted to be the friendliest place in town and that I hoped that our Bar-B-Q Restaurant was going to be one of the most fun jobs that they would ever have. Most of our servers are college kids which adds energy to the place. Great food and friendly service, along with simple, old fashion hard work, should help us succeed as we count down the days until July 11 at 11 a.m. This is one of my favorite times of the year as many of the football magazines are out and for us football junkies these publications give us all a pigskin “fix”. I find my self throwing one of the many magazines in my brief case when I go on the road and enjoy reading about the Big 12, the national scene in general and of course all of Oklahoma’s opponents. I had a cold beverage Friday afternoon with 1969 Heisman Trophy winner and first round draft pick of the Detroit Lions back in the day Steve Owens and we are both optimistic of the Sooners chances this year to repeat as Big 12 Champions but also agree that it won’t be easy, simply because the Big 12 South in particular is so tough to navigate. The Big 12 North is not without some good teams, primarily Nebraska, but the South Division is the bull of the woods as far as the Big 12 is concerned these days especially with Texas, A&M, Tech, and OSU all in the hunt. The Longhorns are never going to be bad and with QB Colt McCoy back, along with a big time cast of characters, Mack Brown’s team are national champion contenders again. The SEC seems to be the elite college football conference today with several teams having the potential to be “in the hunt” come national title time including LSU and Florida. Nick Saban, who has a fine head of hair, will rejuvenate the Crimson Tide sooner than later in the challenging SEC which makes for great games on TV. The Pac 10 is always tough especially if you are a visiting team from another conference and Pac 10 officials are calling the game as they did last year when Oklahoma got nailed by shoddy officiating, documentable on tape, and lost to Oregon. USC should be favored to win the National Title, as I have mentioned before, as the Trojans are loaded with talent and USC doesn’t have to win a Pac 10 Title game to advance to a top tier BCS bowl game. Not having to win an extra game is a HUGE benefit for any team whose conference doesn’t have a conference title game. Again, Texas is always a super team as the state of Texas produces as many great high school football players as any state in America and the Longhorns always get their share and more of these talented young athletes. The annual OU-Texas Red River Rivalry in Dallas at the old Cotton Bowl on October 6 is the big dog daddy of Big 12 games and ranks with the very best in all of college football rivalries. I have not missed this game in years and years and proudly can say I have 4 tickets on the 50 for this annual Slobber-Knocker. For the record, we drive down to Dallas on the Thursday before the game to begin our “tail- gating” a little early. Can anyone explain to me why athletes like Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson, and Michael Vick cannot avoid finding themselves in controversy? Observing these great athletes who have been blessed with amazing God-given talents and watching them make poor decisions after another is disheartening. Perhaps the only good that can come our of these obvious lapses in judgment is that young people can hopefully learn what NOT to do from these millionaire athletes. My friend and former Sooner Dusty Dvorachek, now of the Chicago Bears, was in Norman this weekend for the wedding of another former Sooner and current Baltimore Raven Dan Cody.”Big Dust” came by our Bar-B-Q place and we fed him an ample quantity of “Q” that he apparently loved as the only thing left on his plate were the bones from the ribs he devoured. Dusty and Tommie Harris are both Sooner alums who both may man the starting defensive tackle spots for the Bears this fall. Adrian Peterson has yet to sign his contract with the Vikings but LB Rufus Alexander, AD’s Sooner teammate, has inked his. Peterson, and all draft picks for that matter, would be well served to get into camp on time and ready to go to work, but as we all know that just doesn’t happen. Agents are akin to commissioned sales people and these negotiators want ever nickle they can squeeze out of a team no matter what negative issues it may present to their clients. I do think fair deals need to be done but it is infinitely better to have a player fresh out of college in camp and in shape rather than to hold out and join his new team late. I assure you that there will be several holdouts this year, as always, and many of them will suffer from nagging injuries once they do report. How many times have we all read about a player pulling a hamstring, tweaking a knee or an ankle, etc after reporting late to camp? Let’s address a few comments: Fisha- I think 3 hour Raws are exceedingly challenging to pull off, especially if we broadcast 3 hours live 51 weeks a year. I prefer the two hour versions except for the occasional special edition which are fun when they are kept special. Katherine- I heard that Harley Race was in a car accident but being tougher than a $2 steak, as he is, somehow Harley came out in one piece. Few men I have ever met are on Race’s level when it comes to toughness. I have seen a few “naturals” in this business and Harley Race is definitely one of them. Harley is training Curt Henning’s son, Joe, from what I understand. Joe is a great looking kid and if he is half the athlete his Dad was, Joe will do just fine in the wrestling biz. I visited with Joe at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony this year and really enjoyed talking to him. He is a fine young man and I hope he becomes a huge star. Joe’s grandfather Larry Hennig and Harley were one of the best tag teams ever, for the record, back in the old AWA days. Kyle- “For an average, middle aged father what should I get him for his birthday?” I guess when the shoe fits, one wears it, so here is my suggestion, how about a hug and an I love you Dad? Plus you could make him even happier with a bottle of Bar-B-Q sauce or maybe our HOF offer which includes a signed T-shirt and some healthy, beef jerky. Spending quality time with one’s dad is a great thing, in all seriousness. Mathew- Why in the hell I said Brett Favre is #8 is amazing to me when I know good and well he is #4. I would like to say I was checking to see if the webmaster was paying attention but that would be a fib. I love Brett Favre and how he plays the game of football. I got to know him some when he was a second round draft pick of the Falcons in 1992 when I was broadcasting their games on radio. The Falcons trading Brett has to rank as one of the worst trades ever made in the NFL. Alexander- I think Brock Lesnar is getting firmly entrenched in the MMA world and he seems to have a wealth of potential in that area. I saw Brock’s first fight and he looks as if he can evolve into a major player in the MMA world if not rushed. If the MMA management can wrap their arms around how to market and promote Lesnar, they have a gold mine on their hands but just as with every other star that the MMA folks build, for how long?? Jaxl- Our jerky is made by a family run company that has been here in Oklahoma for decades, plus we only use eye of round beef and cut it against the grain as to not make it so tough. Plus, we put some personality in it so it is not bland and shoe leather-like tough. Adam- If King and my commentary is “coming under fire on the ‘net” then I assure you that King is most likely not aware of it. I think King and I have the potential to do more verbal sparring but not at the expense of the matches or to simply appease some folks who think that it is a necessity that a play by play man and his partner constantly battle each other. If it is feels natural to verbally joust then it will work but just to do it for the hell of it feels phoney and unwarranted. Plus, us being friends and riding/traveling together has zero to do with our on air demeanor. I “argue” with my friends all the time about a wide variety of things especially sports. George- I have heard zero about Ric Flair having a retirement match at Wrestlemania 24 and until I hear it with my own ears from Ric it is simply another internet rumor. Plus, the term retirement match as it relates to wrestling is essentially oxymoronic in nature. Patrick- Old schoolers are taught to wipe their feet before stepping into the ring as a matter of professionalism and respect for the ring and this tradition goes back as far as I can remember which is the mid 70s, as far as me being in this biz. Regal and Finlay are old schoolers in that regard and with their solid in ring work as well. Jwallstram- I think the Sooners will have several offensive “looks” including the one back set this season. With AD gone to the NFL, I expect to see OU utilize many more offensive sets with all the weapons they seem to have at their disposal under the direction of offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, who also happens to be my neighbor. With 5 potentially strong running backs on the roster it would seem likely that OU will play them all in some form or another and see who gets the “hot hand” and let that guy roll. OU already has a verbal commitment from arguably the top running back in high school in America in Van, Texas’ Jermie Calhoun who is an amazing prospect that I can’t wait to see in crimson and cream. Martin- If I was unable to call wrestling and American football for a living, the sport I would probably give a shot is mixed martial arts. I also enjoy baseball and basketball. Boxing would also be a possibility. Too bad old school Roller Derby has fallen by the wayside as I loved to watch it as a kid. Josh P. – I love Johnny Nitro’s upside and potential and he has a viable chance to make an impact on ECW. The ECW show being only one hour is irrelevant to me in how well a talent can or will do on that particular brand. Steve- I get asked a great deal about Bell’s palsy and it was just the hand that was dealt to me and I had the choice of working thru it or retreating into another line of work. My late Dad did not raise a quitter and there are SO many people who have overcome so much more in their lives than I have it is not even a fair comparison. For anyone who wants to know more about Bell’s palsy I suggest a simple Google search. Thus far there is no cure for it, but some day who knows?? I had great difficulty pronouncing some words that began with the letter S for example and had to fight fatigue as the more tired I became the more likely I would be to sound a little like old Foster Brooks and slur my words. Like John Wayne once said, “Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up any way.” David- My Skittles read last week was in line with the overall “feel” of Raw, in lieu of Mr. McMahon’s apparent tragedy. I hope that some day soon it will be business as usual for all involved in the WWE after the Wilkes Barre incident. (Gosh, I didn’t know so many people actually cared about my reading of the Skittles commercials.) Jason- Sam Bradford may be the heir apparent to the QB job at OU but that has yet to be determined. Sam is an amazing 6’5” athlete who averaged a double/double in high school basketball, is a scratch golfer, an honor student, and has a rifle arm. Sam lacks experience on the collegiate level, which can be huge if a young man isn’t mentally prepared for the challenges that come with that job. Sam is mentally prepared to handle it, in my opinion, but time will tell if he can beat out Joey Halzle or Keith Nichol. I don’t expect the Sooners to name a starter at QB until mid August. Jimmi- Great comment about your Baltimore wrestling experiences. They brought back some wonderful memories. Flair, bloody and with green mist in his face, returned to me just like it was last Sunday! I am looking forward to this week for many reasons. Any event such as Vengeance with 9 titles at stake is intriguing to me, especially in a great city like Houston which is sold out and has been before one match was announced. My wrestling memories of Houston are great and I enjoyed my trips to the Sam Houston Coliseum on Friday nights after Bill Watts became partners with Paul Boesch. Mr. Boesch and I broadcast together for a time which was an interesting experience to say the least as Boesch was an old schooler who did not relish the fact that he acquired a broadcast partner in yours truly. It was a great learning experience for me nonetheless. I am thankful I had the opportunity to work in the wrestling territory days, which today’s younger stars will never be able to experience which is really too bad. Then it is on to Corpus Christi on Monday for Mr. McMahon’s Memorial on the enhanced, 3 hour edition of Monday Night Raw. I hope you will tune in for all the WWE action over the next few days. Interesting days indeed lie ahead. And shorter airplane trips for yours truly for a change. Plus, next week is the big, super show in Dallas the home of my dear friend Dr. Bud Hebert. Yours truly heading to Texas for wrestling is just a naturally good feeling thing to do for this ‘ol Okie. My thanks for your business and for checking out our website. Be well and don’t forget to count your blessings. BOOMER SOONER! J.R.

am i the only one that thought the Mr McMahon dying thing was a big joke ?? surely people didnt really think he was dead . it was a stupid storyline and i m glad that it is over even tho the circumstances that ended were tragic. My husband and I watch wrestling 3 nites a week and we love it. Love u and the king too

i enjoyed skittles but you got me addicted to them don't stop doing the sponsorship hype thx

Hey J.R. I was wondering if you could pass on to the WWE that I would love to see the Rock and Stone Cold come back and put a little fun back int othe WWE. That s a pay for view I would not blink before ordering. One more match!

Hey JR, why don't you guys let us either vote on the nominees for hall of famers like the NFL hall of fame, OR, let us actually put names in the hat for potential nominees. I think it would make the Hall of Fame more interesting come Wrestlemania time. By the way, I was really happy to see you put in there. Maybe this year we will see someone like Kevin Von Erich? Thanks and God bless!

What's with the change in the wrestling attire of Mickie James in recent months? I personally like the short skirts she had on. I'm certain you and the King would agree. She's still a beautiful woman, great to look at, and a great performer. But I thought she was a country girl, with the short skirt, "daddy's little girl" character. What's with the change, though not a bad one? I was just wondering. thanks Joe Aman

R.I.P Chris Benoit.

Dear Mr Ross : I look forward to your "matter of fact" blogs, they are a breath of fresh air. I cannot begin to understand the emotions you must be feeling right about now, and the stress you must be under to comment on this weekend's horror. God bless you and grant you the words to help the rest of us wrestling fans cope with such a tragedy. I was at the Orlando Smackdown taping on june 3rd, and was one of the many that gave Benoit a standing ovation after his match. I noticed that Chris took just a little longer than usual to get back to the curtain, basking in the ovation. He thumped his chest a little harder than usual for us, and seemed appreciative of our appreciation of his work. I didn't think it meant anything at the time, and it might not really mean anything anyway, just a note. Thanks for your very informative blogs Jose (Orlando, Florida)

J.R., As much as I thought about Chris Benoit and all the things he did in wrestling and had every thing you could want and he goes out and kills his wife and child..My respect for him, which was high, goes out the window. He should NEVER be in the Hall of wrestling Fame now after killing his family. I am very sad that Chris Benoit came to this point in his life. Trust me J.R. I liked Mr. Benoit a lot and he gave it his all every time he stepped in the ring, now he does this to his family that loved him..what made him do it is a question that only God can answer.. Bill Zettler st. Louis, Mo.

I am very disappointed today. Yesterday I was upset, because I liked Chris Benoit and respected him a great deal. However, to find out the man killed his wife and 7 year old child makes me sick to my stomach. For the good he did in the ring, he will now be remembered as a murder and a coward. For all those who have posted he should be in the HOF, there is something really wrong with you. My question to you JR, is do you think the WWE would have aired the 3 hour tribute had they known about the double murder-suicide? I would hope not. This is in no way similar to when Pillman, Owen or Eddie died. Their deaths were tragic. This is just despicable

I FELL SORRY WHAT HAPPEND TO MY FRIEND CHRISW BENOIT RIP

JR--please mention something about Nancy Benoit's terrific career as Woman. She had some great moments managing Ric Flair & Arn Anderson among others. I feel like her accomplishments and contributions to this business are being overlooked in all of this. Thanks.

jr, i want to offer my condolences to the benoit family and to you and the wwe family. i can't understand why this happened. i am deeply saddened and disapointed in benoits final decisions. i still have much love and respect for his career and wish to god this could have been avoided. i feel bad for benoit that he thought it should come to this. but i want you and all the wresters to know that at least this fan is praying for all of you to get through this very difficult time. i appreciate the great sacrifices all wrestlers make to entertain all of us. i just want to say thank you for all of (wwe) hard work. through this sadness i pray you come together and pull each other through. i am deeply deeply sorry for your loss. i will be rooting and praying with all my heart for all of you. may god bless each and everyone on the wwe roster. my prayers are with you now. your friend and fan jason.

A user previously stated, the WWE needs to look out for personal problems, and I think that's hardly the case. The WWE needs to be aware of the wellness of their wrestlers, but cannot blame themselves, they can only do so much. Friends and family members must be aware of the well-being of others, but are not responsible for what they do in their life. JR, I know you're most likely going to address the situation and not answer questions, but do you think this will soil the great WWE legacy? I'm afraid that people will be directing their anger towards the WWE in regards to steroids and their wellness policy, and I truly hope that's not the case.

R.I.P. Chris benoit My heart goes out to the entire wrestling world at te sad loss of Benoit i was shocked to find the news on wwe.com and even more so at the news of double murder-sucicde but we should not over look that benoit was one of the greatest of all time i remember it bringing a tear to my eye him and eddie embracing in the ring after there title wins as i was a huge fan of both i know the surcumstances are not pleaent but the wwe must not forget all that that both gave. R.I.P chris Benoit

I tried to post a response earlier, & it didn't make it through moderation, so I'll try to change the tone a bit & see this time... I’m so shocked to find out the details of Benoit & his family’s death. It’s hard to believe any of this is true, & even while I type this I’m in a daze. If this is not the worst tragedy in wrestling, I’m not sure what is. It’s hard to get inside a person’s head, so I will try my best to make sense out of this. I realize that in love people do crazy things. You read all the time in the newspapers how people murder their lovers or spouses. It's unfortunate in this time & place that we see violence & brutality every day, but to think that someone is capable of taking the life of an innocent child is sickening. The #1 responsibility of a parent is the well-being of their child. Whatever the circumstances (& I'm sure there is more to this story than we know) I feel so bad for Nancy & Daniel, God bless their souls. Chris Benoit worked for 20 years to prove he was the best in the business, which I can safely say he earned. His reputation was that of a consummate professional, a man of total class who loved his work & would do anything for his family. He has been one of my Top 5 favorite wrestlers of all time since I started watching him on WCW in the 90’s. When I saw the episode of Raw tonight, I was so elated to see that Vince dropped the guise & spoke of this tragedy. Of all the people deserving of a tribute show, I couldn’t think of anyone who deserved it more. Unfortunately, now that I know the story, the tribute show doesn't necessarily seem like the right thing to do. I re-watched it this morning with the new understanding I have of the situation, & I got sick to my stomach. In fact, the first shot of Benoit was of him in the ring with Nancy & Daniel, celebrating his WM20 triumph. How one could go from a state of complete triumph & happiness to this terrible tragedy doesn't make sense. My heart aches for the Benoit family & all of the people who called Chris a friend (especially Dean), since now they must be full of sadness, hopelessness & anger all at the same time. I will never forget what Chris meant to the wrestling world, but unfortunately it is going to take a long time (maybe never) to separate the human from the wrestler because of his actions. None of us are infallible, but I will never in a million years be able to reconcile this in my own mind. I’m sorry if I offended anyone, but I really needed to get this off my chest. Again, God Bless the souls of Nancy & Daniel, & I hope that Chris is in a better place, where this anger/hatred/confusion is no longer locked inside of him. It’s just a shame he didn’t seek help before this horrible tragedy took place.

JR, I want to offer my deepest condolences to the WWE for the loss of Chris Benoit and his family. I am in a state of shock and disbelief, It is truly a sad day for all wrestling fans. I've been a fan of Chris Benoit for over 13 years and was one of the best technical wrestlers of all time. When he would step into a ring you were guaranteed to an excellent display of technical skills and an unforgettable match. I followed his career closely from ECW, WCW and WWE. It was truly a glorious moment watching Benoit and Eddie Guerrero embrace when Chris won the World championship at WM XX. I hope this tragedy doesn't tarnish his legacy in the ring, a true consummate professional. RIP Chris, Nancy and Daniel

Mr. Ross, First of all, I'm a long time fan (about 21 of my 25 years), thank you for the memories. This is a troubling, and confusing time for us all, but as the saying goes "this too shall pass". I have so many more things I would like to say to you, and the people on this board, in greeting but I'm going to keep it rather short. It is far too easy for us (as fans) to forget that the people we have into our homes every week have complete lives and are different people than we see on TV. I don't know what happened with Mr. Benoit, neither does anyone else right now. To say that the WWE needs to monitor their wrestlers personal lives is down right rediculous. We seem to forget that just like in the "real world" the guys we see are doing their job. They have personal lives, personal problems, and personal issues. If Mr. Benoit had worked for Wal-Mart, you wouldn't be saying that Wal-mart needs to keep a closer eye on their employees. The wrestling world is a micro-chasm to the whole world, these things happen in the whole world, and they'll happen in the wrestling world...unfortunately. All I'm saying is this is a terrible tragedy, until we know what happened, just let the authorities do their jobs, and the people close to the situation grieve in their own ways, as we as fans will surely greive in our own ways. It's 9:06 in the morning, and I still haven't gone to bed, there are just too many emotions running wild, and I have never even met Mr. Benoit...yet we all feel we knew him don't we? Benoit was one of those guys that even when he wasn't holding the title or wrestling for it, or involved in a huge story line, the show just wasn't the same if he wasn't on it. The wrestling world mourns for you Chris, you were one of the best. Thanks Mr. Ross if you had the time to read all of this, sorry I got a little long winded, I plan on writing more often on your blogs. Sincerely Josh Hansen p.s. I'm from nebraska, but the sooners are my 2nd team, especially when they play texas haha, im all up for a Big Red vs Big Red Big 12 game, how about it? j

I can't help but say that tributes to Benoit should be limited after this. If he killed his wife and son, he does not deserve to have tributes like Eddie Guerrero did. I ched tears during Raw, and now i feel betrayed. How could Benoit do this? How are WWE superstars taking this news? Do they believe it? This is just so shocking and if this is true, I will have lost a ton if not all my respect for Benoit.

JR Thanks for responding to my comment last week. I just wanted to say something about the events of the last 48hrs. I was disappointed when Benoit wasn't able to appear at the Vengeance PPV, but I kind of knew it must have been serious as I'd never heard of Chris taking time off for anything personal before. There are a lot of people who are posting on your site that Chris killed his family. That is not what the police statement said. The statement said that the entire case is being treated as a double homicide-suicide by the authorities. By my reckoning that does not indicate that Chris Benoit is guilty of any crime. I do not know what happened. Neither do any of us. Too many people have moved too quickly to try and tarnish the name of Chris Benoit before we know what the results of the investigation are. Fact - No one knows what happened. That is why the police and criminal authorities are there. We should not judge anyone before we know what has happened. I will always remember Chris Benoit as a guy who busted his ass night-in and night-out to entertain all of us. It just seems strange that we are the people he had done it for, and now with the circumstances being what they are, people are trying to condemn the man before he is even put to rest. It is a disgrace. My condolences go out to the parents and children of Chris Benoit, and hope that they find some solace in the fact that the wrestling world and its fans have lost quite possibly the greatest wrestler of all time. RIP Crippler.. 1967-2007

JR, If Benoit did what it has been said he did do you think the WWE will pretty much remove any references to Benoit's past success in the future? He deserves to be in the WWE HOF based on his accomplishments, but I couldn't blame Vince if he decided against doing something that would be another PR nightmare. RIP Chris, Nancy, and Daniel

I don't know what to say or how to feel... why Chris why? Please let us find out that this is not true... If it is, it must be some kind of a breakdown and if so, surely now the WWE must give their superstars an "off season"? If it's for only a couple of weeks to allow them to recupurate their minds and bodies... I'm so horribly sad and can't stop thinking about the two children left behind. Please, please inform us that the Police have made a horrible mistake.... Say it isn't so xxxx

Hi JR, I am a fan from the UK. First of all can I just say well done to you the King, and the other commentators, on being so professional in such hard sucumstances. It must have been hard to focus on the camera and put into words your feelings for Chris. I will miss him as a wrestler, I remember first seeing him in WCW (as we got to see some action on Sat mornings when I was just a child), and thinking this guy is a quality wrestler. From there I just followed him from WCW to ECW, to the WWE (as it is now). R.I.P. Chris Benoit and family, you will all be sadly missed.

How could this happen? I spent three hours of my life watching Raw, remembering the finest moments in the career of whom I thought was one of the greatest wrestler's of all time. I cried as I listened to Edge and Chavo break down over how they will miss him so much. And then a few minutes of digging around on web for answers reveals to me that Chris Benoit murdered his wife, his son, and then took his very own life. These are dark days.

Hey JR, nice blog! But I have a question and that is, when did you start getting interested in Skittles, so interested that you started saying it in the way we all love?

I'm from the UK and I heard about the death of Chris and his Family on the internet last night and was shocked. I'm still in shock at the moment. As with Eddie Guerrero I keep thinking this is all a bad dream and I will wake up but the harsh truth is that this is all real. I remember the first time I saw Benoit wrestle and it was against Kurt Angle, those two produced several entertaining matches and a great rivalry. I also remember when Chris beat Triple H at Wrestlemania and the image of him and Eddie together in the ring at the end will stay in my memory forever. I'm not going to comment on the circumstances of his death and of his family as I don't wish to remember him that way. He was a great technical wrestler and its going to be very hard to watch the WWE knowing he's no longer going to be there performing his moves. He deserves to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame next year. My condolences go out to Chris Benoit's family, friends and to the WWE. Rest in peace Chris and god gless you.

J.R. I don't really know what to say, double murder suicide?I still can't believe it has happened, like someone posted earlier, the WWE really needs to closely watch people with personal problems,RIP Chris, you will sorely be missed by this big WWE fan

Rest in peace Chris Benoit. You were the greatest. Sean

I was greatly shocked and saddened when I read about the death of Chris Benoit Monday afternoon. I must confess I don't watch professional wrestling as much as I did in the early 90's. But I do look up who is active and watch the odd episode when the kayfabe/real life stories peeks my interest on a regular basis. I idolized Sherri Martel when I was a little girl and was literally heart broken when I read of her sudden passing. To read about the death of a current WWE superstar and his family is absolutely devastating. I will hold the comments on the rumors and speculation of journalists and early police reporting until they wrap up investigations. Regardless, I give my sincerest condolences to the Benoit family, friends and coworkers during this very difficult time. My thoughts and wishes are with all who have been so deeply affected.

Another dark cloud comes accross the ring, god bless the Benoit family, Chris now your with Eddie rest in peace

I'm sad to say it but in the end we are taught that death is'nt funny and as far as Benoit legacy it will always be tainted by this event.

Like many readers/ fans I am in utter shock with the news of the murder/suicide of Benoit and his family. And the emotons that ran through my body tonight have wore me out. Crying through a 3 hour tribute with my 5 year old son, who durring the last match broke down for at least 30 mins! Mad at my husband for thinking exactly what happened, and then pure anger as I had to explain to my 5 year old how a father and husband could do this to his family! How sad! To think of all the respect all his peers and fans had for him. How sad! My thought and prayers are with all he people this man hurt with his selfish actions.

Hey JR, i feel so hurt today after finding out about the Benoit tragedy and all the circumstances surrounding it. I can't imagine how you must feel. I'm a man of faith as i believe you are and i just can't understand how something like this can happen. Chris was a hero to me, but i can't say the same anymore. I'm so sorry JR. I actually thought Chris and Eddie would be reunited in heaven but now i'm not so sure. As much as I want to remember him as the performer, my human side just can't forget what he did. RIP Chris, Nancy and Daniel Benoit. "The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations"- Psalm 33:10

cant belive the news about Chris Benoit. at first i thought it was part of the storyline but then my mum told me that vince had come out and talked so i knew it had to be real. i just hope that whatever happened at his house, if he did it fact kill his son and wife, that it doesnt overshaddow the fact that he gave us some great moments to look back on keep up the good work

Mr. Ross, I have been an admired fan of yours for many many years, I am 24, fan of wrestling since I was 6. You are the very first person I thought about when I heard about this, because I know you reside in the Atlanta area, as well as I do. I want to let you know that I wouldn't wish anything more in life right now then to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you, and I know you must be taking this hard. Life is too short. I know the show must go on, Chris would want that, but right now, wrestling is the last thing on my mind. I know I will never hear from you because you are a very busy man, but dear god I hope you read this, I know it will make you feel better even if it is from a complete stranger. Hang in there buddy, hang in there. God Speed Chris Benoit.

I am still in shock over the loss of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy & his son Daniel. I was actually in Corpus Christi tonight (a 3 hour drive from my house), & got turned away by police. At first I was mad because I thought this was a ploy by McMahon to make some sort of fake controversy surrounding his funeral, but when I found out what happened it was way worse than I could have expected. I'm not sure if this is the right place to express myself, but I just wanted to say that if the rumors were true, I will never understand how some people could feel so desperate that they would feel they have no alternative than to resort to such actions as a way out of their problems. I hope that no matter what happened, the Benoits are in a place where the earthly problems that we as humans give so much weight are lifted from them, & the afterlife is a peaceful one. To all the readers of this website, if you feel your problems are too much to handle on your own, please please please get some help. Do not let a tragedy like this get repeated. Rest In Peace Chris, Nancy & Daniel.

I don't have the words to express my current state of shock. Its like a surrealistic nightmare. Chris seemed to be such a stand up guy...for all the time I've been a fan of his which is...a long long time now. The worst part of this is I'm afraid we'll never know why. Why Chris? Why? What could have driven you to this? I will sleep tonight and hope that when I wake, that someone else is to blame. There is nothing more depressing than a hero who dies in shame. Don't let it be true....please.

I want to first off say that RAW was amazing and touching tonight. I know the death of Chris Benoit and his family hit the wrestling world hard and its going to take a long time for everyone to recover. It was the repectful and right thing to do to dedicate RAW to Benoit. Whit that being said..... What about Sheri? She also set the womens wrestling world on its ear....she is a hall of fame member and an icon for womens wrestling....but yet her death was passed over as "oh yeah, and BTW Sheri Martel died"...she deserved a lot more then that.

JR, do you truly eat skittles, or are you just having fun when you do the promos on Raw?

This is just really hard to take in and I just can't come to believe it. I mean it is horrible that Benoit and his family are dead. But what is even more horrible is how they are saying(not confirmed yet) that Chris Benoit did this to himself and his family. What will his other children think of this? .......R.I.P..... To one of my all-time-fave wrestlers.... Chris Benoit.

Chrus Benoit killed himself and his wife and son Daniel. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and his son Daniel.

I'm a loyal reader of your blog and a huge fan of Chris Benoit's, and I, along with many of my fellow fans am shocked, saddened, and devastated by the news I am hearing about Chris Benoit and his family. I have looked up to Benoit for so long, and I just hope that what investigators believe to be true isn't. I know you probably aren't any more in the know about this than any of us, and it is not your burden to bear, but I hope the WWE, or just anyone, is able to shed some light on this situation. I am crushed by this news and hope that somehow, in some way, the WWE and its fans can make it thorugh this.

As I watched the Tribute show tonight for, arguably the greatest technical wrestler in the world today, I find myself wondering why, not once have I see The Undertaker offer comments on camera to wrestlers that have died while on the active roster. Owen Hart, Brian Pillman, Eddie Guerrero and now, Chris Benoit. I feel that it is very disrespectful for a man, whom many say, commands the most respect, cannot find it within himself to say a few words about these fallen warriors. He doesn't want to lose the mytique of his character, so he sacrifices emotion for his fellow human beings? Sickening. What is the deal, JR?

no-matter what the outcome of this is, I hope it doesn't affect the way people remember him as a wrestler. He deserves to be in not only the WWE HoF, but also in the other wrestling HoFs throughout the world. He has earned it. RIP: Chris, Nancy, Daniel Benoit

i am sad but i am also perplexed that some of my posts which are my own though i do research all i have to say befor i post are from my gut and yet i have noticed time and time again i have been not posted i know i know i have a passion as you do for the industry which stems from the first time i have watched wwe back in the early 80's not only am i a true fan but next to my hobby which is quite expensive and my woman wrestling is what i eat sleep and breath i do not have a position in any wrestling company but i do post when i see something needs to be said i am shocked yet appauled that in this day and age people on tv and in real life find that using death as a story is a good idea well honestly death is never a good idea but knowing sherri , benoit ,woman and all the others who have passed away and in to the great squared circle in the sky i know they are all watching the new guys and gals and i pray for the families of those whom we have lost

I've always prided myself on the fact that death does not bother me. Even wrongful, early death. I've always felt that there was a plan, and that death was a normal part of life. Maybe the most normal part of life. Until today, when I heard that Chris Benoit and his family were found dead at their home. These deaths shook me to a point that I can honestly say I have never been shaken to before. The cause of these deaths is still unknown at this time, but the fact that someone who I have been cheering for, and have admired for 20 years has been ripped away before his time has struck me in a place I can't even explain to my beautiful wife. I'm feeling a grief that I have not felt for family members when they were taken. Chris Benoit was someone I felt inspired by every time I watched him. He always gave everything that he had when he was in the ring, and that is something I have always tried to emulate. The sheer work ethic and drive to excel was something that I have always admired since I first heard of him in 1987. For the last 20 years, he has been one of the benchmark people that I have measured myself against, and the admiration I have for him will continue, even though he has been taken, along with his wife and son, before his time. Even now, I am comforted in knowing that the Good Lord has a plan, but sometimes the details confuse me. But, such is life. All fans of Chris will be sad, weep, and remember. For me, I will always remember Chris Benoit as someone who strove to greatness. I will not try to imitate him, as out roads to success were different. But, I will emulate him, and remember what he taught me for 20 years. Obstacles make you stronger, fear is not a detriment, but a liberator when you overcome it. I will often find victory in defeat, and defeat in victory. I will miss Chris Benoit, but I will remember him. Goodbye Chris, Daniel and Nancy. I was always a fan, and thank you. Art Sears

Hi J.R. I'm sure you've received several already, but I wanna send my sincere condolences to you and the WWE family, and especially to the Benoit family for the loss of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy, and his son Daniel. I am not afraid to admit that I shed several tears during the touching tribute to "The Rabid Wolverine." Benoit was truly one of my favorites, and always will be, and it will truly be my honor to watch the subsequent tributes that will undoubtedly be given on ECW and SmackDown. Also, that last segment on Raw, showing two of the all-time greats (Eddie Guerrero and Benoit), who were sadly taken from us too soon, was as you stated, very poignant. In less than two years we lost two of the greats of all time (I know there were more, including Sensational Sherri. However, no disrespect to the others we lost, these two "Radicalz", in my eyes, have the most impact.). Again, my heart and prayers go out to the friends and family of the one and only "Crippler" Chris Benoit.

Just one more thing JR, sorry once again for making yet another but mine is very short and simple. CHRIS BENOIT FOR HOF 2008!!!

Double murder suicide, Unbelievable. Makes me sick to my stomach. As a pro wrestler Chris Benoit was in the top five, As a human being he just dropped into the very lower class of scum. Guess you never really know somebody or what they are capable of. Sad day for all in the wrestling world, Probally the darkest i've seen in the 23 years i have been watching.

Hey JR, I'm here for once not for a question or even a response to your blog. I'm here to say that, (this is very hard right now I'm just in unbelievable shock) my condolences go out to the WWE family, Chris' closest friends and his family, and just want to say that no matter how Chris Benoit passed, he should still be remembered as one of the best in ring performers that any of us will ever see. I set my VCR to tape RAW tonite, to see the Vince McMahon storyline go even further, but my mother called my and asked why there is a "In Memory of Chris" on the screen. I couldn't answer it because I was busy going grocery shopping so me and my cousin could go on a camping vacation. After about 1/2 hour later, my mother calls me back and says that Chris Benoit was dead along with his son and wife. JR, I'm sorry I'm rambling on this but I just want to say that take your time on typing up a new blog, and take your time recovering from this shocking event. Thank you for reading this JR, and God bless Chris Benoit. RIP Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit! Thank you for the memories!

Condolences to the family of the Chris Benoit. Chris will be missed as he was always so dedicated and respected the sport. The tragic death of Chris made me think of another athlete who was taken way too early. That was the great Ernie Davis. My hats off to Vince for stopping the "Who Killed Vince" angle and holding the tribute to Benoit. It must have been tough to kill the angel that would have gone through the rest of the summer. It was the right thing. Or at least I thought until I saw the article that it was a double-murder-suicide. It is disgusting that Benoit would take his own life, but taking the life of a 7-year old and his wife is absolutely despicable. I have no respect anymore for this horrible, horrible man. His in-ring accomplishments were great, but their is no excuse for what he did. By the way, talking about elite conferences... the Big East has really made something of its self. With the best bowl record for last year and powers such as Louisville, West Virginia, and Rutgers, it deserves to be mentioned. I'm sure that South Florida is going to surprise this year, my Orangemen will finally get out of the cellar, and they will live up to their great history and tradition.
