Beware..Cornette flying to UK, NFL Types Hypocritical, Huge, FoxSports.com Assignment, Happy B-Day Big Beefy, Who's Bitter?, Derek Jeter the "Swordsman" RINGSIDE w/ Jim Ross Updates

Greetings from a thawing out Oklahoma where we may hit the 70 degree mark this weekend. It's been a busy albeit productive week so let's get this show on the road....

@JimCornette is on his way to the UK for a series of shows and events. Catch him if you can as I'm sure his shows will be excellent. But if you're on his flight from ATL to London, please don't awaken him in flight unless you want the Wendy's Drive Thru Treatment at 35,000 feet.

Had a great time doing radio Wednesday night with the always entertaining @ScottFerrall on Ferrall on the Bench on CBS Sports Radio.

All of those in the pro wrestling genre know that every organization needs to develop new stars. There's a certain amount of risk obviously involved in putting someone in the starting lineup but those risks must be taken. Plus, the new talent must be provided an adequate opportunity to establish their body of work and to develop a fan following. It can't happen with start and stop creative and 50/50 booking.

Any wrestling savant that says or thinks that they can determine whether a talent is going to be a success or not within a few weeks is BS'ing themselves.

I had a great audio session this week with @steveaustinBSR for the Ross Report podcast that will be debuting THIS Wednesday on Podcastone.com and ITunes and it's always FREE. A new podcast will drop every Wednesday. Austin talks about some unique, WrestleMania topics, his booking thoughts on Daniel Bryan and what Bryan needs to address to get over even more, the CM Punk saga, thoughts on NOT wrestling a program with @HulkHogan, @Goldberg and @BrockLesnar, where the original Smoking Skull Title Belt is today, along with much more including his thoughts on Steve attending WM30.

Business is picking up sales wise for our RINGSIDE: An Evening with Jim Ross shows set for New York City and New Orleans. Tickets are available via ticketmaster.com and the Gramercy Theater box office in NYC and the House of Blues box office in NOLA. The Saturday March 1 events in NYC start at 4 and 8 pm and are open to all ages. The Thursday April 3 event in NOLA during WrestleMania week has two shows slated for 6:30 and 9:30 pm. The @HOBNOLA shows are age 18 and over due to the venue's liquor laws.

Each show has VIP Meet and Greet tickets available but they are selling first and the most quickly. Plus, each show will feature a No Holds Barred question and answer session with the audience. I hope to see many of you there.

For those asking, we will be doing other cities and that schedule is being worked on as we speak.

If any wrestling company fosters a backstage environment that does not encourage their talents to speak up and get more involved in their careers from a presentation and creative standpoint, that company is asking for hard times. In ring participants like to perform and to create or they wouldn't be in the biz. If one is a performer then they likely have an above average abundance of creativity. Any show business entity that stifles creativity from their performers is myopic.

Talents cannot be afraid to speak up but unfortunately because of the shrinking number of places a talent can work and earn a decent living the "don't rock the boat" philosophy seems to permeate the wrestling business.

That's not healthy for anyone involved.

Hitting the Oklahoma women hoops game tonight vs. West Virginia in Norman. @OU_WBall always fun to attend. Got those "jack Nicholson seats" which allows me to 'communicate' with the officials just in case they need a little help. Don't worry, I'm not going to embarrass myself ala the dude in Lubbock during the OSU-Texas Tech game.

In all due respect to West Virginia University, why are they in the Big 12? Do the brain surgeons who handle these matters not take geography in consideration when making these near sighted decisions that are not player or fan friendly?

Q&A's here are updated. One person perceives that I am "bitter" about how things ended with WWE. Not true whatsoever. Leaving has facilitated a great work schedule, a wonderful business arrangement that's only going to grow with @FoxSports, the development of RINGSIDE: An Evening with Jim Ross shows, and our new, weekly podcast with @PodcastOne.

Life is actually pretty, damn good. I am grateful, that I can assure one and all.

Speaking of FoxSports.com, I am going to write a three part series on WrestleMania that will run throughout the month of March.

Retiring New York Yankee captain Derek Jeter proves that one doesn't have to be a "Richard' to be successful or accepted by his teammates and his fan base. Jeter has earned great respect throughout the sports and marketing world because of his away from the field conduct notwithstanding his consistent high level of play on the field and, arguably and most importantly, his leadership.

The future Hall of Fame shortstop is also known as an accomplished "swordsman" not that there's any thing wrong with that.

Happy Birthday "Big Beefy" aka @TheTommyDreamer one of the most loyal, professionals I ever worked with and a credit to the wrestling business. I hope he comes to my March 1 RINGSIDE: An Evening with Jim Ross show in NYC. Tommy was blessed with passion and toughness which are two characteristics that there's not enough of in the genre or life in general.

Again...may I mention that I'm happy I'm in Norman today and not Sochi.

Jury watch on @HLN is cruel and inhuman punishment.

Bruce Jenner is scaring me and I'm not easily frightened. There should be a Battle Royal at WM30 for the Bruce Jenner's of the world. Those that need that additional 15 minutes of jocular fame and glory...sort of a Hollywood B-C list Legends Battle Royal...if you will. Canceco...Jenner...Holyfield...Rodman...etc

It is SO hypocritical of how some @NFL types are addressing the Michael Sam matter of him declaring that he is a gay man. First of all, if Sam can help a team win he will be welcomed by his teammates with open arms...no pun intended. Secondly, for some within the league to judge Sam's sexual preference after seemingly condoning a litany of off the field issues over the years from multiple players is the proverbial pot calling the kettle black and is ridiculous.

Bottom line, if Michael Sam can help a NFL team win there will be no issues.

I agree with your comment about West Virginia and the Big 12. They would be better off in the ACC or even the Big 10. I have a sneaking hunch that in a few years they will leave the Big 12 anyway. Who would be your dream school to replace them? Mine would be Nebraska, but I know that will never happen.

I feel that the power of the WWE can live far beyond what we all think. There are city's were indy's company's are that can work with WWE and get these rookies over in area the WWE goes they just need's to show them in that Indy fed in the city's that WWE goes to. over Indy fed's in state's that are still going. List Of All Promotions Wrestling promotions are the equivalent of major corporations, football clubs or even the shady bar one street over. Every promotion is different, although most share a similar ruleset for wrestling matches; all promotions have their own fans, although many of them are not exclusive; and finally, promotions each have a unique flavor that makes them interesting or not-so-interesting, all subjective to the viewer of course.
