Big 12.. Fiesta Bowl.. Raw 15th Anniversary.. J.R.’S Nuts Are Bigger Controversey?.. 3 Minute Matches Help Who?.. Pro Wrestling

My thanks to those of you that have responded with such positive feedback over the past few days. It is refreshing to read of the positive energy from so many especially for a business that is about entertainment and not about any of the urgencies that we face in many aspects of our every day lives. Wrestling is intended, in my opinion, to be fun and entertaining and to not be over analyzed as it so often times is. There is no doubt that TV wrestling is subjective and that some weeks are definitely better than others. Just like we have some days that are better than others, some wrestling programs are better some weeks than other weeks. I plan on doing my best to keep this site positive and fun and to not allow myself or what I do for a living to be taken too seriously. The product should be entertaining, but without fail some weeks will be more entertaining than others and no broadcast will ever be perfect. I’m still looking for that perfect show even after 4 decades of trying. I will continue to seek the perfect broadcast even though I fully realize I am likely to never experience it. But I will continue to have fun and enjoy what I do and the day that ceases is the day the black hat disappears from your TV set. It was a great weekend for yours truly on a personal level as I attended the Big 12 Title game in San Antonio and watched from the OU sideline as the Sooners won another Championship over a talented Missouri team, that had a super year. Now it is on to the Fiesta Bowl for my team and I plan on attending the festivities in the desert, come January 2, when Oklahoma plays a really strong West Virginia team. This Monday is really a wonderful milestone in broadcasting, as it will be the 15th Anniversary of Monday Night Raw. It is amazing that this program has lasted all these years in the volatile world of cable TV and in prime time to boot. Kudos to the many men and women who have contributed to the show’s success over the past 15 years. I am proud to have been a small part of the process and hope to continue to be sitting at ringside every Monday night for the foreseeable future doing what I love to do and that is broadcast wrestling and to, hopefully, entertain people. There isn’t another two hours of the entire week that I enjoy more than being at ringside as a part of Monday Night Raw. I also wanted to thank the many folks who are doing some of their holiday shopping at our store here on the site. “J.R.’s Nuts” are selling wildly as are our new T shirts. Yes, they are attention getters and edgy but all in the spirit of fun. Our “Redneck Gift Buckets” are rolling out the door just as quickly as we can ship them. The beautiful thing is that the store is open 24/7 and that we ship your orders within hours of receiving them. You still have time to allow us to be a part of your holidays and we are honored that you would consider giving our products as gifts. Don’t forget to check out the limited edition, number and signed shirts that are bona fide conversation pieces that can’t be matched any where. Our sauces are superb as is the variety of flavors of beef jerky and who doesn’t like food as a gift. It sure beats another tie or something that doesn’t fit. Bar-B-Qed Feedback: Matt- The late Gordon Solie is widely considered the best announcer ever in the business. I had the privilege of working with “The Dean” toward the end of his career and those shows created some wonderful memories for me that will last a lifetime. The “I Quit” match we called pitting Ric Flair vs. Terry Funk was one of my personal favorites as our styles were more old school, sports oriented focusing on athleticism and drama. I don’t watch too much of the older stuff that I have done in my career, but that particular Clash of Champions was one of my favorites. For me to do play by play while sitting beside Gordon Solie, who excelled in that area, was a “moment.” Regarding the TV ratings of RAW, etc I am not overly concerned about them as they still out perform virtually all if not all the programming on USA. RAW is consistently in the top 5 or so programs on all of basic cable and with the exception of Monday Night Football, RAW still dominates many demographics. The fragmentation of the TV audience is a concern though for any one who produces television as many of us sit with the remote in our hands and are quick to change the channel if we are not being entertained. Squiggy- I hope the “J.R.” action figure you finally found doesn’t scare your son! Perhaps next year there will actually be a new version of the action figure or at least that is what I am told. I don’t feel as if I did anything special in getting the negative comments out in the open as it would have easy to bury them so that they would not have seen the light of day. I value everyone’s opinion even though there will be some comments that we will not post simply because they lack taste and how much criticism do the masses want to read about the same, old stuff? And congrats to the Ohio State Buckeyes! The Buckeyes vs. LSU should be a real slobber knocker and it will be interesting to see if OSU can handle the Bengal Tigers speed. Pat- Who do I think is the more “handsome”, Paul Roma or Rick Martel? Is this Pat Patterson asking the question and if so will you quit fooling around Pat?! :) Martel was the better wrestler…how’s that? Randy- The Legends Roundtable discussions on WWE 24/7 are really fun to be a part of as they are free flowing and not over produced. I am sure there is plenty of good stuff that hits the cutting room floor but that is simply the nature of the beast. I don’t know when we will gather again to tape more shows or what the subject matter will be but I am “in” when the time comes. It is sort of like traveling down the road in the old days with a van load of wrestlers shooting the breeze and expressing themselves. I do agree that Abdullah the Butcher was/is a badass because as you said no one can have Abby’s longevity without being a tough human being. Abby strikes me as the kind of man who would have no issues “gutting” someone if provoked. Brooks- You have a healthy attitude about the rasslin business. I agree that it isn’t imperative to know what someone earns, who they date, why they aren’t in main events, who’s a nice person and who is not, etc. At the end of our respective days does it really matter. Obviously not. I, too, am happy Chris Jericho is back and when Jericho is on the mic being a wise ass he is at his best. And I mean that in the nicest of ways. Chris is a competitor and I guarantee you that Jericho will bust his ass to have a big time main event at Armageddon in his first outing back on PPV. Craig- I personally like Charlie Haas as he is an Oklahoma kid that I signed to a contract in the WWE many years ago along with his late brother Russ. Charlie is a superb athlete, but he needs to continue to evolve his in ring personality so that fans can make the all important “emotional investment” in him. I assume Charlie will fly solo now that Shelton Benjamin has gone to ECW. Charlie is a naturally intense individual who has a degree from Seton Hall in Economics. E.S.F.on Earth- The marketing slogan of “J.R.’s Nuts are Bigger” obviously refers to our locally grown peanuts and is a true statement. Nonetheless, it is an edgy and somewhat controversial slogan that our marketing folks came up with and that I thought was funny. No harm no foul, but I have no issues with your opinion. It’s “out there” but it is simply a play on words and is not intended to be taken seriously, but I promise that the shirts are selling and some people think the slogan is hilarious. But, just as in some aspects of wrestling, it might not be for everyone. Jeremy- Soccer in the States might get over the hump in the years to come as so many young, American kids are playing it now that when they get older they may lead the way in supporting it. However, the David Beckham craze has already subsided here, for the record. I like to watch soccer when I travel to the UK, but it is taken so much more seriously there with the passion of the fans being such a huge part of the presentation. Sounds familiar doesn’t it? Riley- The Undertaker vs. Jeff Hardy match was a classic. I truly mean that. Taker is one of the last guys I would have put in a Ladder Match environment but, man, did he deliver. Jeff Hardy got the ultimate “rub” from the Deadman and on that night Jeff Hardy showed us all what he can do in the spotlight. Now Jeff has the opportunity to do it all over again with his upcoming match at Armageddon against HHH. Alf- I could never work off a script. My acting skills suck. What you hear is what it is…for better or for worse. I feel for announcers that have to work off a script or who do not have natural instincts for the product. Lee- The “Kiss My Ass Club” was a mechanism to create angst and make Mr. McMahon more disliked. I think it worked really well especially the first few times it was seen on TV. Yours truly having to do it in front of my family and friends in OKC wasn’t one of my most sterling, career achievements. MJR- It is my understanding that Eric Bischoff, among many others, will appear live on the 15th Anniversary edition of Raw on December 10. Past that one should never say never but I think the ship has sailed for Eric to be involved full time in the wrestling biz…but that’s just an opinion. Robert- Thanks for making the trek from El Reno, Oklahoma down to Norman to try out our food at J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q. Our team really tries hard to make every one feel special and our food is thankfully damn good. I’m not bragging, but simply stating a fact. I eat there several times a week, no jokes please, and I assure you that if something isn’t good we fix it. I am probably more critical about our food than most of our guests. I hope you visit us again soon. Ted- I am not sure how much a 3 minute match helps anyone. The overall improvement of the in ring product within the business is imperative. You will get no argument from me about that I assure you. Chyna’s Ding a Ling- First of all that’s a helluva screen name and I hope I did not inadvertently just put something profane on our little website. Nonetheless, the “formula” for a successful wrestling show is no secret. You pretty much hit the nail on the head when you eluded to clearly defined storylines that have continuity and feature talented performers. But to say I have lost my passion because I “condone” the WWE creative is a disconnect for me. In essence what you seem to be suggesting is that I quit my job in protest. That seems like an awful drastic measure to me. Do I like all the wrestling I see on any given wrestling show? Usually not. Am I in a role to change what I don’t like? No. Do I sit up nights worrying about it? Absolutely not. That has nothing to do with passion but common sense because if one constantly worries about things they cannot change they are asking for health issues and I damn sure am not going there. Finally, who says Eric Bischoff was remotely right when he says in his book that “all of Jim Ross’ ideas were too old school”? Old school means fundamentally sound athletes involved in reality based storylines. It doesn’t mean the bad guys all wear black, wool tights. Perhaps more “old school” principles these days would invigorate the business. JD- Fresh talent that can perform will always help any company but the issue many company’s have is how fast some younger talents progress. Some younger guys who have not fully developed their skills start making good cash and stop trying to get better but only to maintain. They find their comfort zone and want to stay in it which is truly the kiss of death. The key to talent development is to do one’s best to place each talent in the best position possible for them to improve. New, talented faces can help any organization but the continued improvement of everyone on the roster is what is key. When one stops growing they start dying. Fred- I will let The King handle the physicality as that has never been one of my goals and it is certainly not an area that I excel. The issues with Tazz in the ring seem like a million years ago. In hindsight, who did it really help and was it simply a waste of TV time? Both arguable points. Collin- Your opinion on the spinner title belt is good by me but I still could care less about what the championship resembles but more about who is wearing a title belt around their waist and not slung over their shoulder. Nathan- Indeed the OU-WVU Fiesta Bowl will be a great one. I wish your Mountaineers the best of luck. We will talk more about the January 2 confrontation closer to the game I assure you. Best of luck at Marshall. Reggie- Harry Smith is back on the active roster. I saw him recently and he looked good and with a smile on his face. “DH” is a good kid. jeremyindiana- “Pro Wrestling This Week” was hosted by Gordon Solie and Joe Pedicino. At least the version that was done out of Atlanta. It was a very entertaining show and provided a great look at several territories every week. For the hardcore wrestling fan PWTW/Atlanta version was a must see show. The Florida version of the show was with Gordon and Buddy Colt as I remember it but it wasn’t with me. Perhaps some one can shed some light on this matter. K. Michael Carlock- I love the sweet tea analogy. I realize as you do that many who vent here are frustrated with the overall landscape of the business in general and its current direction. I understand those frustrations. I also like healthy debate and just as in sports, etc I have strong opinions on what I like and what I don’t like. I like physical wrestling contests that are prompted because of personal issues. I don’t expect everyone to like me because sometimes when I hear my work back I don’t like me. Where’s Dr. Phil?? Thanks for checking us out and for all your feedback. I hope you will continue to provide us with opinions and questions. The posts are getting better and better all the time. My thanks to you all. Our store for business is open as we speak! BOOMER SOONER! J.R.

DEAR J.R. ~ First of all, I want to say that you looked WONDERFUL in your red and white Sooner's gear on the sidelines of the Fiesta Bowl! I only wish you could have looked happier! I am a lifetime resident of Morgantown, WV and a WVU alumni and I was honestly ready to root for the Sooner at our match-up this week! For me, it was a win/win scenario because as much as I love my Mountaineers, I love Jim Ross equally. WHAT A GAME!!! I am sorry your boys didn't win. No one thought we'd be able to 'show up' emotionally, and I guess we were blessed by angels above. I hope one day to meet you in person and give you a big hug just to say THANKS for all that you do each and every day for RAW, for the fans and for mankind. Peace and blessings for 2008 to you and yours. Keep on being as wonderful as you are, J.R.!!

HEy JR, I saw you on T.V. last night. I was watching the Fiesta Bowl and i saw you standing right behind Coach Stoops. I was not surprised to see you at the game since you are a Sooners fan, I was surprised to see you near the players and coaching staff. You must know someone important. Anyway, I was just letting you know that you got on T.V. for a couple of seconds anyway and it wasn't Raw. lol. Take care JR.

Hi J.R., hey it's Jerel from Tahlequah. I just wanted to wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY today!!!!!! Also I watched the Fiesta Bowl last night, I still can't believe the way the Mountianeers played. Hopefully there'll be a rematch next bowl season between them. Maybe even a possible National Championship game, that would be a great one I bet. Well J.R. you take care and enjoy your birthday and I talk to you soon. Your Friend From Tahlequah, Jerel.

For all of you that would love to see Austin-Hogan, I'd like to remind you that these two did wrestle back when the NWO first came to the WWE. It was in a tag team match (Rock/Austin vs NWO), with Austin & Hogan facing off briefly during the match. Austin actually gave Hogan the Stunner on another occasion when Stone Cold came to the ring to get revenge for a previous beat down by the NWO. Anyway JR, if the dream match would ever have taken place, who do you think would have been written in to get the win & why?

Hi JR. I am a big fan. First off, can you tell me more about the Brody book and where to find it? I hadn't heard about it before your last blog. And do you get as annoyed as I do with comments like "onetreehill" talking about why are the wrestlers so celebrated? Obviously he has never been in the ring. What do you think of the World Class DVD and will there be anymore product put out regarding that era? I think it would be logical for the Von Erichs and Freebirds to both make the Hall this year with the DVD release to showcase them. Thanx for all you do. I have followed you from Mid-south, to UWF, to WCW, to WWE. Merry Christmas.

Is there any chance that we might see Sunny grace a WWE ring on a full time basis??? I would also like to see RVD make a return, that pop he got on Monday was outstanding.Hope you and Mrs.JR have a great holiday.

JR, thank you for announcing RAW every week. You are truly the best announcer there is. Hearing Mike Tenay on iMPACT is like watching a bump on a log. I love it everytime you say BAW GAWD and that comment on Santino, "Spaghetti Legs, no pun intended" hahaha. The cherry on the top was when Y2J came to the announcr's table and said "BAW GAWD JR". Haha! Thanks for all the great memories and the good announcing. I couldn't imagine RAW with out you, so stay as long as you can ;) Also, there have been rumors of Steve Corino signing with WWE wince he is getting these Dark Matches. Is there any truth behind this? Alos Ron Killings quit TNA. He said he is looking to get back to his stomping grounds. That would be WWE? Anyways thanks a lot, god bless.

Your blog is an interesting read! However, I would like to know if you know why Monday Night Raw's 15th Anniversary is celebrated a month early? Keep up the good work, JR!

Apparently many Superstars from the past 15 years will be on the 15th Anniversary episode of RAW, but will there ever be a show where past announcers or managers have the spotlight? I mean, as far as Im concerned announcers and other personalities in wrestling dont get the same attention as the wrestlers do. People that werent the most popular, but still give a sense of nostalgia and old school feel. It would be great to see appearances by Gary Cappeta, Rhubarb Jones, Tony Schiovonne, Todd Pentingale, Stan Lane, Craig DeGeorge, Ken Resneck, Missy Hyatt, Sean Mooney, Mike McGurk, Raymond Rougeau, Lance Russell, etc, etc. I think u get the idea. By the way, didnt RAW begin on January 1993? why is the 15th Anniversary Special in December 2007?

Hey Mr. Ross, The fiance and I are getting married in June here in Massachusetts. Any chance we could have you cater...?!?! I will settle for nothing less than your BBQ. Thanks! Matt Cape Cod, MA

J.R..What has happened to Tony Schiavone, and also did WWE ever contact him about a job in the WWE after WCW folded?

JR, Greetings, my name is Juan Santos. I was able to meet you and the King the night before the Great American Bash at Dr. Lee’s office. I am still very thankful that you signed all my memorabilia and I proudly display all of it in my room. I am super excited about tonights RAW and I just wanted to thank you and the King for all that you add to the broadcast. You two are the voices of WWE and tonight is as much a congratulations to you guys for all your hard work each week as it is to Vince McMahon and the in ring WWE Superstars. Thank you so much and look forward to hearing a slobberknocker of all call tonight. Juan

Ws that a slight jab at Randy Orton in that comment you wrote about how you're more concerned with the wrestler who wears the title and not how he wears it draped across his shoulder(not saying ther name but it's obviously Randy as he does that)?I see nothign wrong with it at all.I mean I've seen many wrestlers use the belt as a weapon so who cares how he wears it?Becky

JR, i have enjoyed your many clever "off the cuff" comments directed towards pat patterson over the years...always classic. i have always wondered, however, does pat ever take offense to any of these "ribbings"?

Howdy Jim, do you happen to know if WWE referee Jack Doan will be making his long awaited return tonite on the 15th Anniversary Raw show? And if he doesn't come back not tonite, then when can we expect to see this beloved 'zebra' again?

Bob Kapur[writer of article] This was posted on the SLAM! Wrestling site in regards to the #1 Raw superstar today-thought you'd like to know. Could it really be Jim Ross? Though I have no doubt they will announce Vince McMahon as the all-time Raw superstar, I think the honour truly deserves to go to someone else: Jim Ross. Though he wasn't there for the first three years, and there were some patches since when he wasn't doing commentary, JR has truly established himself as not only the voice, but also the heart and soul of Raw. For two hours a week, he pours his emotions into the show, expressing the viewer's voice, be it one of joy, anger, sorrow, or disbelief, and selling the situation appropriately and sounding genuine in doing so. Without him, as we've seen, Raw isn't nearly as good. And while he may have the occasional screwup, as some critics point out, or rely too heavily on his familiar cliches, I can't imagine that anyone else would even come close to doing it quite as well as he does.

Jim, Let me first say i love the site and appreciate you keeping an open forum with fans. You are truly 'The Poeple's Champion'. So thank you for that. Now to my comment...at lunch today I went to Border's and combed through 400 pages plus of Chris Jericho's newly released autobiography "A Lion's Tale"...thought my readings I learned that Chris Irvine aka Chris Jericho aka The self proclaimed "Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla" once smoked some of his friend's medicinal marijuana...and with that, I am no longer a fan of the once great Y2J.

J.R., I have to say that I am extremely happy to see the HBK/Cena hour-long match from this past April in the UK was voted in by the FANS on WWE.com as the greatest match in RAW history. As with everything it is debatable, but the fact that the FANS voted for this hour long classic match just goes to prove that even today's fans like a good juicy steak to go along with all of that constant sizzle. Do you get my point with the emphasis on FANS? Hopefully the "powers that be", whoever they are, will take note.

Mr. Ross. Just a simple question (or maybe not so simple). Who would win a bar fight between Danny Hodge, Kurt Angle, and Harley Race?

JR , it is a pleasure to view your web site for the first time. I am 42 years young and I have literally been a huge wrestling fan since I can remember. I was born and raised in Chicago so my most special memories are from Vern Gagne's A.W.A.!! (How I miss it) I know you get thousands of questions a day and it is remarkable how you still remember where you came from. Your passion and personality is refreshingly genuine, something we need more of. If I get lucky enough to get a response, I would love to read anything you have to write about my hero "Dick the Bruiser" I still think of him today and all the thrills he provided me in the International Amplatheatre back in the 70's. Also any comments or stories on the AWA would be appreciated. btw...on your WWE 24/7 bad Asses, Dick the Bruiser was not mentioned, was he tough in real life? I would imagine so since he and crusher always bragged about how they cleared out bars on a daily basis. I could go on forever..What I would give for 30 minutes with you to talk wrestling. If you ever have a date planned that you would be at your restaurant, I would love to fly out to have lunch one afternoon so my son and I could shake your hand. You are his hero. Thanks JR. Dan Bertholomey Portland, OR.

Hey JR, If I may? I'm hoping I'm not stepping out of line here, but to answer the question of an earlier poster (Rapidfire). The Great Muta did indeed wrestle Hulk Hogan. It was in the late 80's. I was there as a matter of fact. At what was then called the Capital Center (Landover Maryland). Which later got converted to the US Air Arena, and than later taken down when the MCI Center was built. It was a fun and great night, and I was in my early teens. Muta got what he deserved that night (as him being the bad guy and all) and was powdered by Hulk Hogan. If my memory suits me correctly, Bob Orton (yes, cowboy bob orton) was the manager of the Great Muta at the time. At least for that show in particular. It was a house show. I still have the old card from that night. (JR throw me an email and I"ll trade you two dinners for me and my wife for the card that night!! Just kidding!!) But to answer the question, Muta did indeed wrestle Hulk Hogan, on more than one occasion. Thats one of my best memories of going to a wrestling event. Me and my dad. Granted I've been watching wrestling since umm...(hey JR, here's an old name from the past) "The Italian Superman". Bruno Sammartino. Hope to catch you next OK state fair and soon to make it down to the resteraunt. Thanks again for the memories JR. Jim. BOOMER SOONER BABY!

Hello Jim, I'm a big fan of the column and wanted to take the oppurtunity to ask you why Macho Man Randy Savage has, even after all these years, not been asked to join the WWE Hall of Fame or have anything to do with the company. He seems to be blacklisted - even from the action figures. It seems a shame that he's not being acknowledged. Can you shed any light on this? Have a happy Christmas, J.R Nick

Always a great read, I always enjoy reading a perspective on wrestling that's positive, even if I can't always say the same about my perspective. Altough, I have to say I've been really entertained by the product the last few weeks. I kind of lost my desire to watch wrestling in the summer for obvious reason, but lately it's been coming back to me and RAWs recent shows have been a big factor in making me enjoy wrestling again. And what's been even more interesting & entertaining has been the Legends-discussions on 24/7. So I've got a couple of questions about it. 1. How is Michael Hayes to work with during Legends Roundtable? I love his style myself, and consider myself a big fan of The Freebirds. He does seem like quite a character. 2. Who was tougher, Tazz or Mick Foley? Stu Hart sounds tougher and scarier than both of them. All the best and happy holidays..I look forward to hearing you call Armageddon and especially tomorrow's edition of RAW. Should be great fun. Especially if you really put over Irwin R. Schyster if he should arrive..best gimmick ever.

Hi J.R! Was just wondering, on several WWE DVD's (such as the road warriors one) you sit with the wrestler in question and do a "directors" commentary of sorts as the match goes on. I was just wondering if you are given an outline of what to talk about as the match goes on, or if you're just thrown out there to talk about anything that naturally comes to mind? Do you write up a sheet of paper with dot points planning on what to ask the wrestler, or talk to him about? :)

I feel like ECW is starting to make the turn to where it should be. There seems to be many more story lines going on than what was happening in the past. Kevin Thorns new look is great!! I hope the new direction with his look can translate to a big push in the future. He has a great "sloberknocker" style that is dilberate and fun to watch. Keep up the GREAT work. I am 30 years old and you ARE the voice of wrestling for my generation of fans!

What's your opinion on Demolition? I think they were definetley WWE's all-time greatest team, but you don't hear a lot of talk about them??

Hey J.R, First, allow me to thank you for years of entertainment. you have truly become the standard by which other play-by-play men will be held to for years to come in my opinion. Speaking of my opinions, in my humble opinion, I think that Demolition was definetely the top tag team the WWE had to offer in it's years, what's your opinion on the spiky shouldered duo? -Dr. G

JR, You may have mentioned this before but I am curious. As a Sooner fan and alum, and a WWE fan, I always enjoy your commentary and when you get involved with storylines. I live in Houston, and a few years back I met Jeff Williams, the brother of Dr. Death, and I have been a fan of him as well. I love how you come down to your spot to Boomer Sooner. I was wondering, since I am always seeing you on the sidelines at the OU games, is it possible for you to one day do the radio broadcasts for OU football after Bob Barry retires?

As a symphony orchestra bass player who has watched wrestling for ever since I can remember, I think its great (and fitting I might add) that Ric Flair and Jerry Lawler's music is of it's nature. I have performed both of those great pieces of music and thought perhaps Naitch and The King might just bust out of backstage during the concert, but the Memphis Symphony is never as fun as the WWE. That being said, how does WWE choose which entrance music to give to each performer? Does the band who created the music sign a contract with WWE? I never hear Randy Orton's music or Edge's music on the radio, but I've heard other songs by those respective bands on the radio. Keep up the great work!-DT

Jr, Your opinon on a few football and a wrestling question if you please. 1) Is Coach Fox on the hot seat? How about the Heels? Do you see Coach Davis leading the Heels to dare I say a bowl next year? Have you watched the best football team in NC bar none App. St. this year and what is your opinon on them? 2) This is a very old WCW question but one I have wondered about. A masked wrestler named The Pearl wrestled one match on Saturday Night and I have a guess to who it is (Al Snow... btw sure Al slipped vince a twenty for the mention last week) just wondered if you knew or if anyone else knew. Thanks for all you do and have a great 15th anniv. show. JB

I must say that Ladder Match between Jeff Hardy and the Undertaker is my favorite match on Raw. I am excited to see the next one with Jeff Hardy vs Carlito. I hope you talk about it in your next blog. By the way Jeff Hardy is known for that type of match, but has Jeff been involved in more official WWE ladder matches then anyone else? If not, who holds that honor? Also J.R. You have always been one of my favorite announcers on wrestling television. No matter what anyone says, you're one of the greatest. Keep on entertaining.

Hey, JR I wish my Jayhawks could have had a crack at the Sooners. I'm sure we would have killed them! (yea I don't think so either) But I'm from Kansas City and I was wondering if you had any good old KC stories from the past cause I've read thier are some good ones with Harley Race.

J.R., As soon as I read the name "Joe Pedicino" it clicked into place! We were both wrong (of course we were 11 or 12 years old at the time). We apparently watched the Atlanta version and, yes, it was a GREAT show. Almost like "Pro Wrestling Illustrated" on television. It was how I first heard that Bruiser Brody had been killed and the first place I ever heard of many, MANY wrestlers who went on to become legends. Thanks for clearing that up, J.R.!

Very nice interview that you and Stone Cold did with the local Portland Maine television station. Ever been on vacation in this neck of the woods?

Dear J.R.- Thanks again for keeping your blog updated with your wisdom, stories and always salient commentary. Two questions 1)I know you're a big fan of "The sopranos" (as am I) but Im curious to know if you've ever had a chance to check out HBO's other outstanding gritty drama "the Wire." For my money it's a much "realer" look at modern America crime and the cities we live in. Have you ever had a chance to check it out? If you did, did you enjoy it? 2) i'm a proud Michigan alum, and it's alarming to see the program seemingly take a dip out of the elite programs in this nation. We keep losing to the buckeyes, can't win a damn bowl game to safe our lives, we bungled the Les Miles situation, and now we're getting turned down by 2nd and 3rd choice coaches. From where you sit, has the Wolverine name and program really take as much of a hit as some of us more skeptical alums believe it has? all best and a happy holidays '07 E.B. NYC, NY

Jr I just saw the lineup for the RAW 15th DVD, and I have to say as a fan I am kinda disappointed that the HBK/Cena hour long match isn't on the DVD. If you could add any match to the DVD which ones would you add?

JR, I really enjoyed the Gimmick Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 17. Is there a chance WWE will ever do another one? If so, who do you want to see in it? My personal choice would be Adam Bomb.

JR, If WWE ever took you out of the booth (yet again) and purposed to you the idea of being a GM or some sort of authority figure would you do it? I think you'd be a great face authority figure, like Gorilla Monsoon.

JR - You are coming to AZ for the Fiesta Bowl!! That is great!! My son will be participating in the parade and it should be a wonderful time for all. If possible for you, and I know you will have a VERY busy schedule, but it would be great to meet you in person. My son and I are big WWE fans and I'd love to treat to you and the Mrs. to lunch here in Phoenix. You have my e-mail address, if it is at all doable, send me an e-mail and we can work out details. Thanks!

JR - I'm with you on reality-based storylines. WWE wrestlers should have two main motivations always driving them -- to get the gold and to "get to the pay window". I don't know why the idea that seemed ingrained in feuds for so long is no longer there. Being a champion these days seems to be a forgotten and abstract motivation -- in all competition, the champ is the best, and in the pros, makes the most, and the IC and US belts move you up the ladder and get you more at the pay window. Sure you can get personal, steal a woman, do something nasty -- but in the name of clawing to the top. I think if wrestling got back to that focus, it would make for more urgency. Why does mayweather want to beat hatton saturday? His belt, prestige and the $$$. That's the crux. Real drama comes from there.

Hey JR, It looks like we have some really interesting bowl games this year. My 3 favorite teams are Univ of ARK, Univ of AZ, and Univ of OK in that order... Can you believe the HOGS made it to the Cotton bowl. Once again AZ falls short. One of these years they will pull together and go all the way. But hey, two out of three ain't bad. John

JR, when you were a neck tie, do you wear a real tie or a clip on? Thank you, LOTP

I would love to see Ultimate Warrior on the Raw 15th Anniversary show Monday night.

Mr.Ross, I was hoping you could settle a bet between me and my wife. She says that you never worked for Herb Brooks UWF promotion, i know you did, she wont believe me no matter how much i try to convince her. Could you please settle our dispute?

Hey JR, Since Christian has gone to TNA he has progressed so much as a performer (in all areas.) If he were to ever come back to WWE (which I truly hope) he would be used to his full potential, which is indeed a main event star.

Hey JR I forgot to add a question? I'm currently studying Screenwriting in an honours degree, would this be enough to get on me onto the writing team in the WWE? when I finished, would it be enough? It's like a dream for me.

Hey there JR, been a fan of yours for many years. I was just wondering do you feel that Triple H works better as a heel or as a face? I personally feel he's a much better heel although as a face he brings a lot to the table. Everytime he's in the United Kingdom he gets a tremendous response whatever alignment he is. I've also read the Batista book and I can't justifiy why people boo this man, he's getting better and better each week. I never use to be a huge fan of The Animal but he's working hard and I think it shows following his matches with Taker he's learnt so much more.

First off, thanks for answering so mny questions so often. Your determination to stay in touch with the fans is, to me, matched only by Matt Hardy, who also goes above and beyond on his MySpace. I have to agree with you that too often people get way too hung up on things that really don't matter. The point I would like to make concerns Randy Orton. I've noticed a number of fans recently attacking Randy for being "boring", both on the mike and in the ring, but to me, Randy's recent style is a good example of the "old-school" values that you have brought up. In recent years we have seen a lot of heels or anatgonists who are cool, edgy, funny, spectacular, whatever. Randy, however, is portraying a more old-fashioned bad guy. The Randy we see on screen isn't cool, or funny, he's just a nasty piece of work, and to me that adds a lot to his matches in terms of fan reaction and so forth. Do you think that we will see more of a shift back to traditional wrestling "antagonists" now, or do you think Randy is just swimming against the tide on this one?

Hello J.R, I have been a massive fan of yours, since the wcw days. I persoanlly, love what you do, and are the main reason i watch raw every week here in the uk, the wrestling part os also great. What did you think of the macth between big boss man and koko b. ware at summerslam 1988? Its in my top 5 of all time, as is the hbk razor ramon ladder match.

Hey JR, I'd love to see a legends roundtable about some of wrestlings greatest announcers: The Great Gordon Solie, Lance Russell, Bob Caudle and on and on. I would imagine there are some great untold stories about these great gentlemen. What do you think? Maybe you could pass it on to the powers that be. Take care and have great holidays. Jon
