Great Saturday here in Norman and we hope that where ever you are that your weekend is just as good. Thanks for stopping by and for ordering our products during the height of the Grilling Season and with Father's Day and the 4th of July Holiday just around the corner. If you place orders this weekend, we will ship them out Monday.
I was surprised to get up Saturday morning and to read that Daniel Bryan or Bryan Danielson had been released from WWE. I am not sure of the exact circumstances and until that information is confirmed it's hard to make any definitive comments. Bryan is a talented wrestler who is not going to have any trouble finding work. His in ring style is unique, the young man has certainly paid his 'dues,' what ever that means now days, and he's arguably the most talked about performer on NXT. Certainly Bryan leaves WWE with momentum and with more fans knowing his name than at any point in his career. Plus, who is to say that Bryan will never return to WWE? There may be a great deal more to this matter than any of us know or, honestly, need to know at this time.
Why did the Freebirds vs. JYD storyline work so well in Mid South Wrestling that saw it put record numbers of fans at that time in the Louisiana Superdome? Because it was a 'personal issue' that was not rushed, was plausible, and a story that most every one could relate. The overwhelmingly popular hero, JYD, was 'blinded' by the evil, diabolical villains, The Fabulous Freebirds, which came at a time when Dog's wife was about to give birth to their baby daughter. The daughter was born but Dad could not see his baby thanks to the actions of the 'Birds. This matter wasn't about titles but was simply a well constructed, personal issue that got many fans to emotionally invest in what they were seeing unfold episodically on weekly TV. It was one of the hottest issues of the generation and I can only assume that a few of you saw it when it first happened but more have seen it via the Mid South Wrestling archives that are available at www.universalwreslting.com as best I know.
The Freebirds had to be very careful traveling the Louisiana highways at all times due to the legitimate angst that fans felt toward them because of their actions on the beloved Junkyard Dog. It was story telling 101 that still works to this very day if properly executed. No need to reinvent the wheel but simply and strategically parlay human nature.

WWEShop is working diligently to address international shipping issues with UPS as it relates to shipping liquids (our sauce) and meat products (our beef jerky) outside the USA. WWE is optimistic that something will be worked out and we'll hopefully hear some good news next week. Everyone involved in this process is doing all they can to rectify this matter as we all want to sell our products to the folks outside the USA especially those in the UK and Canada who email us the most. In the mean time, those inside the USA can order with FREE SHIPPING 24/7.
Our J.R.'s Cookbook, which we personalize as one of our special offers on the site, has 'man friendly' recipes, the nuances of the differences of grilling and BBQ'ing (smoking), lots of photos, and a bunch of easy to read, quick, wrestling stories. Bottom line as Steve Austin would say, it's more than just a collection of my family's recipes.
I'm very close on making an announcement regarding becoming affiliated with a big time player in the on line, sports world. Details are still being discussed but hopefully we will arrive at our destination in the next week or two. I have plenty of thoughts to share regarding college football realignment which I have shared with some in our updated Q&A section of this site. Check them out if you're a college football fan.
Emailer...should TNA go on the air and verbally blast WWE to gain notoriety? To me, that would be extremely stupid and a waste of valuable TV time. What would it prove? TNA's success or failure is about them getting better at what they do not what WWE is or isn't doing.
Emailer...grilling skinless, chicken breast can be a little tricky as it relates to overcooking them and then having to eat a dry piece of chicken. Try marinating the chicken in your favorite marinade, liquid smoke, etc over night or at least a couple of hours. Cook the chicken over lower heat than normal but remember that every grill is unique and that every grill has a 'hot spot.' Use a knife to cut into the breast to see if it's done and don't be afraid to turn the skinless breast over on the grill more than once to see how it's going. At the end of the grilling procedure, with about a minute or two remaining, brush on WARM JR's BBQ Sauce to make your skinless, chicken breasts 'just right.'
I'll be watching the UFC PPV from Vancouver Saturday night and sentimentally pulling for Chuck Liddell to beat Rich Franklin. I'm not a 'Franklin hater' by any means but 'The Iceman' is one of those characters that one emotionally invests in and I have done just that over the years. Liddell reportedly is in awesome physical shape which is encouraging to hear. The question is how is Chuck's chin not to mention the UFC Legend hasn't gotten any younger. Regardless, I want Liddell to have as much success as he can muster toward the twilight of his run because, I'm a fan, and I think that he's earned it. I can't see Liddell having that many more big time, UFC main events. Time will tell on that one I suppose. Even though Franklin is favored, one never knows what will happen on a UFC PPV. I see no way this fight goes to the judge's scorecards or likely even make it into the third round.
Emailer...it is absolutely too early for even the internet experts to declare that this NXT class is 'starless.' I see some young athletes that intrigue me and simply need to see more of them to offer an educated and informed opinion. I do think that some of the young guys will surprise us before all is said and done which is why I enjoy watching NXT each week because I find the show unpredictable.
Have a great weekend and we will be answering Q&A's throughout the weekend plus I will be all over our Twitter account especially while the UFC is going on tonight. Join our almost 40,000 followers at http://twitter.com/JRsBBQ.
Thanks for the visit and for the business.

Dear oh dear oh dear. WWE are really determaned to get rid of there original LOYAL fans. We have been tolarant but following the release of Bryan Danielson (its not the fact they released him its because of the rumoured reason why.) we LOYAL fans are really being tested.
Wrestling is not ment for kids. My mum wont let my little brother watch it (who is 7) because it involves fighting not the swearing and all that (which it should). Like JR said its not neccesarry to have blood but everything they have done has taken away the intensity.
All the promos now show that. They come out and say the same thing everytime (With the exception of the old school wrestlers) they have no charisma! We use to have The Rock or Stone Cold come out and electrify us with their promos and the crowd would be going nuts. Now all you hear is a VERY high pitch scream, which comes from KIDS!
The idea that WWE is trying to make its content PG is stupid. Like I said wrestling is not ment for kids. Trying to make wrestling kid friendly is kind of like trying to make pornography kid friendly (not to the same extent though) it just doesn't work!
We LOYAL fans have tolarated alot but this is the final staw. WWE SUCKS!
I hope this is a really good work but if this is real im done with wwe forever been watching for the last 25 years and to b honest the product has sucked for a long time.last monday i had goose bumbs it was the attitude era all over again ,it was hogan turning heel and joing the nwo it was awesome and now this s..t ?
wwe are u serious?I hope this is a new era were we dont know what happens when we cant tell what's real from fake this is the way pro wrestlig should be ,if this is the case then wwe you have revived the biz if not wwe u killed the biz. keep on suiting ur product to little kiddies until they grow older and start to watch ufc only this generation is not like the one b4 so i hope to see the american dragon soon if not screw wrestling such a sad day but whats the point if the product does not cater to the customers.
To all of you fools crying about Danielson...
You are taking the bait! Ideally, WWE's storylines should develop an emoitonal attachment and a "water-cooler" discussion. Check and check.
If he really was released, I think he'd acknowledge it on Twitter. Why hasn't he said anything outside of a crpytic message?
Life imitating art is part of what was so great about the older WWF. Stuff like Bret Hart and Shawn's real life anomisity and Vince running with it after he screw Bret. This next angle is finally continuing the trend.
Maybe slip this idea to one of your higher ups eh J.R. ;-)
So monday night opens up with Vince/Bret Hart talking about how all 7 rookies without contracts were signed to "TV contracts" so they could appear on TV and film NXT. Only Wade Barrett had a "Wrestling Contract" something to that effect. And how Daniel Bryan was released for his actions last week and his actions previously to that were as the other wrestlers were suspended/warned whatever because this was their first violations.
Wade Barrett comes out and promos with Vince about something. Either way this leads to Vince suspending Barrett as well. Not before a quick run out Brawl with John Cena (who no sells the beatdown, we have to make this real as possible guys)
Fatal Four Way comes around. World Championship Match. CM Punk vs Rey are last two standing. Masked man helps Punk beat Rey and becomes Champion (MARKS GO CRAZY but are still pissed) Masked man attacks Punk and everyone goes "WTF" while marks go "RUSSSSOOO!" Masked man doesn't unmask.
WWE Championship match now. Cena wins (Marks will never watch WWE again) but here comes Wade Barrett and the N who attack Cena but Cena OVERCOMES THE ODDS! and starts fighting them back (Kiddies go wild) suddenly CM Punk's masked man comes from under the ring and attacks Cena. N dudes start beating down on Cena and masked man unmasks
Daniel Bryan.
Next week on Smackdown footage showed Daniel Bryan attacking original masked man before the show and stripping him to reveal himself as whoever he's supposed to be and Daniel stealing his clothes.
There you kill two birds with one stone because no one cares about the masked man anymore and this will salvage some kind of "point" to it.
I'm so dissapointe in the E. I haven't watched regularly in years until recently around Wrestlemania. And I've somewhat enjoyed some episodes here and there. But it's a shame that the two angles that really got me excited for the product and make me want to be a true fan again has been ruined by the release of it's star performer.
The Michael Cole angle was great and I didn't think the WWE could top that so soon but they did with the Invasion angle. Everyone joked and said "Come on it's the WWE, they will find SOMEWAY to ruin this, probably have Triple H become their leader or something." I was extremely optomistic and behold, look what happens.
It isn't the release that bothers me, it's the reasoning behind it, it takes all steam behind this angle and simply makes me not care just because it takes all "realism" out of it.
Bryan Danielson proved without a shadow of doubt that he truly is a ....... chokeartist
NXT season one was a big success. the pros were into their character roles and were a big part of the success. Season two should have had Hall of famers or future hall of famers as the pros.
With the 2011 hall of fame being in atlanta maybe they should have had a wcw pro theme. Arn Anderson would have been great. Mike Rotunda, Barry Williams, Dusty Rhodes, DDP and other former WCW alum would have made this season more interesting to watch.
This is the time to get it right. Bryan Danielson is the best of the nxt roster. He should have been paired with Bob Backland. The Dragon is a pure wrestler and Bob would have been a perfect trainer for him for the WWE. Bob is intense and edgey. He would give Bryan more character development then the writers.
His release was the biggest mistake of the WWE's life. If he gets the call from TNA he may never come back to the WWE. The idea of him versus Desmond Wolfe or even Kurt Angle. Bryan versus anyone in the X-Division would be a match of the year contender.
I hope the WWE reverses its decision to release Danielson. It was the wrong move. They should have suspended him or written in some kind of injury from a sneak attack by Michael Cole.
I'm going to wait patiently to see if Danielson was truly fired because I can't see the WWE actually letting him go. I was rediculously excited when I heard he was signed, especially to see a Danielson/Punk angle. it would have been amazing.
If all of the rumors are true about the WWE firing him over the tie choke, then I am very disapointed. I started watching the WWE when I was 8, in the beginning of the attitude era. As a kid i never once tried what i saw at home. Even the language they used back then wasnt something that I copied. I honestly don't know why things like that matter now, considering the youth of today is growing up playing video games where the goal is to kill people.
As I said before, I will be patient because I don't know what i'd do with myself if I were to try boycotting the WWE. I wouldn't last a week. Here's to hoping it's all a work, or I'll be feeling reeeeeal guilty when I tune in to Raw tomorrow night.
Please join my Facebook Page : 1 Million Fans to bring back Bryan Danielson to WWE!
Count me among those who will be considerably less interested in WWE programming if Bryan's release is legitimate. His recent stuff with Michael Cole and The Miz and the subsequent NXT invasion have had me on the edge of my seat like nothing in pro wrestling since WWE's takeover of WCW and the WCW/ECW invasion in 2001 (?), and it unfortunately appears that it's going to be a similar waste of potential.
If, however, this is an elaborate angle as some folks have speculated, then I'd say it's had it's desired effect. Second time in a week WWE has had the internet fans foaming at the mouth.
I have high hopes that Danielson's release was a swerve. I traveled from Ohio to Arizona this past March to see Wrestlemania and meet Bryan Danielson. I also attended the NXT taping a few weeks back in Cleveland, and the crowd reaction for Bryan was insane. This whole thing makes no sense at all. Bryan has all the capabilities in the world to shine as a top talent in the WWE. There was a lot of money to be made with him.
I have been a fan of the WWE product for over 20 years, and this news has made me so bitter that I don't care to even check out Raw for a while. I would be a jerk and convert my attention to TNA, but seriously, that show has nothing going for it unless in 90 days they sign themselves one "American Dragon".
WWE does something great and then screws it over before the week is even done. I knew I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. About 70% of my interest in this storyline is now gone thanks to this. Bryan and Barrett were the only two NXT guys that I had any real investment in.
I was going to comment on the Brian Danielson "firing", but I can't improve upon what others have already said. Other than the following:
(1) If the WWE actually released Danielson, then I surely hope that the rumors of Paul Heyman going to work for TNA are true. Paul is smart enough to hire Bryan and turn him into the next Shane Douglas. Then I can enjoy watching Bryan on TNA television ripping Vince a new one and saying how once Vince had grapefruits but now he's hung like a hamster. This release would then blow up in the WWE's face and TNA will finally become real competition.
(2) If this is a work, then I'll wonder if the WWE are the ones that have Heyman under contract, because this is the best angle I've seen in years.
I see the whole thing as a "WIN WIN"; we all just have to sit back and see how it plays out.
I agree with everyone here--wrestling, or "sports entertainment" has taken an enormous hit over the last few months and JR, despite attempts to overlook the changes, they are as glaring and annoying as those boxes over the WWF logo on all the old matches. No matter how hard you try to overlook them, they are right there; the damage to the product, from stopped matches to the release of the dragon, is just too much to get past. Linda McMahon's political aspirations have done what Eric Bischoff and others tried and couldn't, and that's bring the WWE to its knees.
Earlier I said I wouldn't believe Danielson's release until I saw him in another company's ring, but after thinking about it and seeing the reactions here and elsewhere, I realize that I've given too much credit to the WWE pen and paper crew. They caught lightning in a bottle last Monday, and it took the company less than a week to let it out. It's a shame, too, as the audience has been waiting and waiting for something big to come along and grab everyone's interest again, and there it was. Now, it's gone.
So even if this is part of the angle and the Dragon is still under the employ of the WWE, most of the people who were excited about the invasion won't see it because they won't be watching out of final frustration.
So, Mr Ross, bitching about PG may get us nowhere, but there are going to be a hell of a lot of people moving to that zipcode right about now, and business there is about to pick up. Same can't be said about the WWE, sadly, until someone says screw PG and Linda.
JR, speaking of the Birds/JYD angle, one of the urban myths thats floated about is a story that the 'blind' JYD was doing an interview at tv to hype his upcoming dog callar match with Hayes. Hayes comes out to attack him and a fan jumps out from the stands and pulls out a gun. He points the gun at Hayes and says, 'don't worry 'Dog I got ya covered' Dog being 'blind' he couldn't break kayfabe and make the save for Hayes. I've always wondered if this story was true. If so I imagine the Big Cowboy would have preferred that the fan shoot Hayes before seeing JYD break 'fabe and let the fans in on that he wasn't really blind!
i got caught up in conspiracy rant and forgot to make my point. The angle isn't ruined because Danielson was let go. It's ruined because of why. How are we supposed to perceive any of the NXT guys as a threat, when we know they can't do anything threatening? I was so amped for this Monday too. Now I don't care. Oh no, here comes Wade Barret with,"gasp", A CLOSED FIST!!! Someone stop him!!
I was fine with the PG. Ironic though that little kids shouldn't even be up at 11:00pm on a school night. This is too much already. 33 years of loyalty to WWE, through the good and bad. Even in the Hogan era, the original kids era, people were choked with ropes and shirts and what not. I wasn't even this upset when Austin walked out. This just rubbed me the wrong way. Screw this company. I'm not watching TNA either. I'm just giving up on wrestling 4 a while. JUST WHEN IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO SUPRISE ME 4 THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS. YEARS McMAHON!! THAT'S HOW EXCITED WE WERE! THANX A LOT! HAVE FUN WITH YOUR LEPRECHAUN SON! I"m outta here......
I totally agree with keeyop and inoran,
how does WWE continue an angle where these guys destroy the face of the company as well as the everyone involved with the show, by releasing the best performer of the bunch because what he did was too scary for the kiddies? I'm fine with the no blood policy. Like J.R says, blood doesn't make or break a great wrestling match. I totally understand the no choking policy, the no chair headshots too. The Benoit incident will 4ever haunt this company....R U listening Linda? I hope you're ready to address that mess come November. This is just too much though. Obviously Vince had no problem with all this or Danielson would've been let go that night, ala Mr. Kennedy. Didn't he wrestle a few nights later for FCW continuing the angle there?! WTF happened? Who was so influential? TV execs? No way. Look what's on t.v right now for gods sake. Toy company people? Probably not considering the amount of toys that come ARMED TO THE TEETH! I have a feeling we all know who........conspiracy drumroll please.............a certain someone who has millions of $ already spent for a certain position come November. L.M............
anyways i know they'll bring him back. even Cryme Tyme was brought back. I'm just soured that the whole angle is RUINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am in total shock and unbelievably disappointed in the release of Bryan Danielson. Ive watched WWE wrestling for nearly 27 years and even though the l;ast few years have been pretty horrible, with the exception of the HBK/Undertaker feud, I continued to watch in hopes that, once again, the product would take a turn for the better. Once I found out Danielson was coming in, I was actually excited to be watching again, then the NXT angle monday night was the first time in a long time I was actually sitting on the edge of my seat and couldnt wait to see what was going to happen next week. Just like that, its over, Danielson seriously got screwed over big time. I honestly can say im so disgusted by the stupidity in that decision that I wont waste another minute of my time watching WWE programming. Its not because im a die hard Danielson fan, its honestly because the product sucks and ive given up hope of it getting better.
I know im just 1 fan and my finally bailing out as a fan doesnt mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but I just had to stop by and say something.
I'm sorry, JR, but I've followed the pro wrestling industry for 25+ years and I've understood how it works in situations where the talent deserves punishment. This is not one of those cases. If there's more to the story, WWE should (but won't) be frank with us. If it's just because he choked someone with a tie, and while everyone was happy on Tuesday morning, suddenly Vince got told something from someone and decided on Friday that Bryan was going to be fired for it, then I call B.S.
I've tolerated the Watered-Down Wrestling Entertainment for a long time, even the matches STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF A PAY-PER-VIEW because HORROR OF HORRORS, someone is bleeding. This is the last straw. If Linda McMahon wins this election, this industry is absolutely dead. Dead. D-E-A-D. I'm praying Linda loses in November so pro wrestling can get back to being pro wrestling, and pro wrestlers won't be FIRED for doing things that people do in pro wrestling.
To whomever made this call to fire Bryan, whether it's Vince or Bill Dunn or some schmuck outsider that has to do with a political campaign, I would love nothing more than to introduce my fist to your face.
And no, JR, I never react like this to firings of pro wrestlers. But this is just the biggest "F.U." to any one wrestler, the entire fan base and the entire industry simultaneously that I've ever seen.
Thankx for allowing me to vent.
I guess TNA gets a new main event talent in 90 days, if only they knew what to do with the talent they already have, then that might actually mean something.
If the Bryan Danielson firing is for real, then to be fair, I'm another long time fan who is hanging up and finally walking away after 30 years of supporting the product.
It's been a good ride, but there is only so much stupidity you can take from a company that treats it's own core fanbase as a bunch of morons, I'll go a step further and say that RAW will be hitting a 2.5 rating (or even lower) before the year is out.
I'm off to flick back through the midnight express scrapbook and remember a time when saying you were a fan of wrestling didn't leave a crappy taste in your mouth.
Word is Danielson was released because of the tie choke and somebody outside of the company got upset about it. Here's the thing; if this is the case then the director who CHOSE TO ZOOM IN AND HIGHLIGHT THE CHOKE should clearly be the one to take the fall. Not the performer doing his best to make an angle work on TV. Last year Orton choked Cena with a chain. What's the difference?
More dangerously, if Vince is now kowtowking to the likes of Mattel then he has relinquished control of HIS company. Absolutely depressing and sad. People get choked out in entertainment all the time. My kids had no desire to run someone over in a car because they saw Batista try to do it John Cena at the last PPV. My kids have no desire to hit somebody in the sternum with a sledgehammer despite the countless times HHH has done so. My kids never feel like Attitude Adjusting someone through a table even though Cena does it at least once a month. Have some balls and tell Mattel or whoever that it's an angle, the performer will get his in the end and to keep their noses out. The hottest angle WWE has had in YEARS is practically dead and buried because not one of those guys has half the talent Danielson does.
Honestly, I love so many of the guys in WWE at the moment: CM Punk, Jericho, Edge, Christian, Big Dave when he was around... But this leaves a terribly sour taste in my mouth and I just don't see myself paying for any WWE products for a long, long time. Sad, really.
If the Dragon's release is not part of the storyline, this would be one of the most ridiculous moves I've seen the WWE make, which says quite a bit. Not withstanding the rumors that it is because he choked that lame ring announcer, releasing the most polished and accomplished wrestler involved in the NXT angle seems to be a bit problematic and immediately drops the interest level. Now, I won't be entirely convinced of this move until I see Danielson in the ring somewhere else, but if it is true, it speaks volumes to the theory of the WWE bringing him in simply to make him look bad and offer one last slap at the wrestling fans who have made him star around the world.
Again, I will believe this ne when I see him in the ring somewhere else.
The Freebirds were one of the finest tag teams ever at getting the crowd to boo and/or cheer. That feud with JYD was outstanding from the blinding to the dog collar, and such feuds are, sadly, a thing of the past it would seem. Now it seems feuds are built by throwing two random guys together for a month and then having the blowoff at the next PPV, unless it is at a main event level, where you can expect to see the same two or three guys in a feud you couldn't give a flying burrito fu..freak about for the better part of 3 years.
I certainly can't agree with the people who see the NXt group as 'starless.' Low Ki and Hennig in particular have the ability at first glance to be upper mid card guys at worst, although Low Ki made his name elsewhere, so we know he won't be going anywhere.
And, finally, TNA. Just shut up and do your thing. You have the best in ring talent of any national promotion, you have big names that are still able to go (and a ton of them that can't), and if you'd drop the obsession with the WWE and find someone with the ability to guide your promotion logically, you might soon be able to actually compete with the E instead of simply creating a phony monday night rehash.
