The 3 hour WWE Draft featured a mix bag of results.  RAW loaded up as USA and WWE prepares for Monday Night Football this fall. It is imperative for any Monday night wrestling program to plan long term and to be able to roll into the fall with some degree of momentum and interest from a storyline perspective.

RAW has and always will be WWE's top TV priority, as it should be, considering that RAW is generally the #1 program on cable TV. MNF is a monster and the schedule this fall is daunting to say the least. RAW on USA has a huge investment to protect and to grow and Monday Night Football is a beast with which to deal.

UFC has to make an educated, non knee jerk decision on what to do regarding Tito Ortiz' arrest for allegedly abusing his spouse. In today's world, especially and rightfully so, spousal abuse is virtually unpardonable especially within a major media concern like UFC and, to a somewhat lesser degree, to Spike TV which airs on of my favorite shows, The Ultimate Fighter, of which Ortiz is on of the central characters this season. Does UFC give Ortiz another chance and the opportunity to rehabilitate his image or do they cut their losses and hope that Tito focuses full time on becoming a better husband and father? The latter is infinitely more important than what occurs in an Octagon.

The media is quick to point out that Tito Ortiz allegedly abused wife has a porn star past and this fact seemingly has to be included in every mention of this unfortunate and ugly incident. Not sure what porn has to do with apparently getting abused by one's spouse but it apparently makes for better 'copy' by the media.

It was also reported that Tito was a 'former' TNA Wrestling personality of which is a huge stretch and something that is so irrelevant that I had forgotten it all together.

Like pro wrestling, the WEC proved on PPV this past Saturday night that in today's marketplace that size is and should not be the determining factor as to who gets quality time on a weekly TV show or on PPV. The old theory of one having to be 6'2"-250 lbs, for example, to make it in pro wrestling or MMA is as tired as wool tights. 

True athletic talent along with natural charisma or the ability to connect with the consumer knows no height or weight requirements. At least not in my opinion. Would you rather see a non talented heavyweight who is striking in an 8X10 or a great athlete with charisma who has the ability to put his audience in the palm of his hand with memorable, in ring story telling?

We get lots of emails from fans of women's wrestling. I hate to break the news to you die hards of this specific genre but unless the decision makers change their philosophy, and my money is on them not doing so, women's wrestling is essentially going to remain a supplement to the overall product that will remain positioned to appease to the male demo by providing sex appeal. Don't kill the messenger on this one but one can see this play out each week on TV. Yes, there are some very athletic women in wrestling, and, yes, there are some very lovely and hard working, dedicated ladies in wrestling, but the days of these ladies athletic abilities being fully utilized don't see to me to be eminent. Provocative entrances and ring attire along with suggestive language seem to indicate that the dye has been cast and the women in today's wrestling world know their role and most seem to be happy to have the work and to be getting TV exposure. Perhaps the athletic side of these women will become somewhat more of a focus.

Small, pet peeve....pro wrestling referees putting their hands aggressively on wrestlers has run its course and should be omitted from the process. Just one guy's opinion. 

While the soap box is out....nothing a wrestling company does is more important than establishing a viable, scouting program to find charismatic, world class athletes who have the aptitude and desire to become wrestling stars. This must be paired with a comprehensive training program whereby the rookies can learn different styles from a variety of instructors. If everyone learns the basic same nuances then what is accomplished other than a cookie cutter system that helps no one? Plus, the same instructors who never vary their teaching methods or techniques have likely found their comfort zones and a comfort zone is the proverbial kiss of death.  

One of the most basic elements of producing episodic TV, of which pro wrestling is a vital part, is providing the viewers with provocative, thought provoking content regarding 'next week.' If an episodic TV show is unable to provide 'next week' info, then the producers, etc aren't doing their jobs.

Yours truly is getting ample career advice sent to our Q&A section. I do appreciate everyone's interest and concern about my future but please be assured that my future is in good hands as long as I have my health and, knock on wood, my health is great as long as I have the support of my wife who has always remained steadfast in my corner.

Some emailers have taken me to task about "taking myself off the air" in WWE which is such an embarrassingly, inaccurate statement that I have deleted these emails to save the individuals further humiliation.

That's akin to some casual fan reading emails from die hards who haven't discovered the spell check mechanism on their computers yet. I freely admit that I 'ain't' no Hemingway but I do try and use spell check.

No one honestly expects OKC to beat Kobe and his Lakers in the potential 7 game series but the Thunder have certainly made things interesting.

Glad to see that things are going well. Being a long time of you and the wwe, I did have a question about Kane. Now going by the character that he has had in the prior past. Is that the same Kane that First debuted in the 90's versus now. I think that I ask you before just haven't seen the your response. Do you think that the wee will ever go to back to the Attitude Era again? I heard that thr Rock is supposed to coming back to guest host and probably more than that. From what I heard is that he wanted to have the attitude era as well. I truly have seen the Undertaker work in the businesss for a long time with great matches. Can you also make any comments on wwe bring out a DVD set for raw for every year or every season. I think that would br great. I would that would be a long and lots of shows to put together.

Yeah, when are people going to realize that all wrestlers are only 8" tall on the television screen, no matter how big they are in real life? As long as they're fighting someone the same size, the audience at home (which is far larger than the one in the arena) won't know the difference.

Thought that I would drop a line after I read the report where you haven't been given a new contract by the WWE.  I've given up on WWE programming for many reasons, but the first and foremost is that the announcing is without question, unbearable.  I think that the "fed" is making a terrible mistake by not taking advantage of your vast knowledge and story telling ability.  I am going to reign myself in before my nose gets any browner, but just wanted you to know that you, dear sir, are sorely missed, and hope that I will be able to follow your exploits in whatever field you choose to endeavor upon.

Hello Jr, The draft was fun but farely irrelevant I think, the division between the brands has gotten increasingly blurred the last couple of years.  There were a few personal choices I would've liked to see stay where they were or moved, but oh well.  I have to disagree with you on the womens wrestling, WWE may use them as little more than eye candy but, for all their faults, TNA shows what women wrestlers can do.  Just like the males, it all comes down to how they're promoted.  Referees putting their hands on the wrestlers has run its course?  What about the wrestlers putting their hands on the refs, or completely ignoring the refs warnings?  If Drew McIntyre ignores the ref telling him to stop choking his opponent on the ropes, even after the DQ bell, what is the ref supposed to do, say pretty please?  My personal pet peeve, the promoter forcing the ref or commentator to wrestle because they didn't like a call made against their pet "superstar".  Fortunately that doesn't happen much, but it annoys me all to hell when it does.

As much I respect you JR. You're very wrong about one thing. The divas aren't as sexy as they used to be. The WWE has made them into pretty girls that are medicore at best wrestlers. I know you watch TNA and what do they have JR? I mean for godsakes look at the Beautiful People. They are some of the sexiest women wrestling has ever seen. Don't get me wrong WWE used to be the most watched show because of how the divas used to be. And in my opinion the WWE needs to go back to the Attitude era. Or at least before the PG bullcrap. I mean I hate saying this because I've watched WWE for 18 years, but TNA are utilizing their initials and someday soon might bring the WWE to it's knees. I know you might laugh at this, but I mean c'mon JR. WWE isn't selling like it used to. And I really wish you'd come back to TV (please come to Smackdown, I hate Striker.) But if you don't then it's been an honor and privelage to listen to you for al these years, and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Hope to hear from you soon.
