Hope your Monday is going well. Seems like I've been n the road forever as I departed Norman before the Boston event. Thanks to those of you that are placing orders as we sincerely appreciate your support of our products. Here's some BBQ'ed random thoughts.
I flew into Newark from Miami after attending the OU-Miami game on Saturday night which my Sooners lost 21-20. Congrats to the Rock's 'Canes for outplaying OU as I know Rock was very proud of his alma mater as we conversed via email multiple times over the past few days. Even though Oklahoma is getting hammered in the local and national media I am still firmly behind my team as I believe that when one makes a committment that one should keep it. Loyalty is a good trait and I appreciate my late parents for instilling that quality in me. Admittedly sometimes my loyalty has bitten me in the butt but I've got no regrets overall.
HIAC was an interesting event from my perspective at ringside. I found out somewhat later than usual that the Punk-Undertaker was going on first which changes one's dynamic as the biggest match SD had to broadcast was that particular one. I actually enjoyed the wresling side of the World Title bout and "felt" the story that was being told. I assume that Punk will get a return match in the future but don't know the official date.
Morrison and Ziggler continue to both be a "work in progress" and I felt both showed great promise and potential during their IC Title bout. Both men need to continue to build their foundations and I feel comfortable in saying that both are going to be significant stars sometime in the future. These two young men's future isn't about "titles" but building their body of work and developing their personas. I see Morrison and Ziggler as two of the shining, young stars on the SD roster.
The tag title bout at HIAC was excellent. Lots of classic tag team strategy utilized and the 4 SD stars give me more reason to look forward to going to work Tuesday in Trenton, N.J. which is JJ Dillon's hometown.
Tough spot for McIntyre and R-Truth to find themselves in at HIAC but every PPV is more apt to have those occurances. The only thing that they can do is what they did and stay focused and work their butt's off. Better positioning will hopefuly be in the future for these two. I do like that young talents are getting opportunties nonetheless.
The challenge of making 3 HIAC bouts all unique is undaunting. I am an old school fan who would prefer to see one HIAC bout per year but times change and new concepts have to be tried nonetheless.
Grisham and I had to park in the third level of pubic parking at the Prudential Center which created some interesting dynamics. It seems as if every person in the world now has a camera phone and I apologize for not being able to take the time to take a photo with every fan who wanted one but we were blocking traffic, had horns blaring, imagine that in the northeast, and had cops yelling at us.
BTW the Prudential Center is a super building and I look forward to returning to it someday.
The "Dinner Impossible" episode we shot at Summerslam will air on The Food Network on Wednesday November 11 at 9/8 central time. I want to make it clear that I did NOT burn the chicken! That was a joke. Working on this show was a blast and I hope that you will check it out. Chef Robert Irvine and his crew are cool dudes and know their stuff. I did make some mean BBQ sauce if I do say so myself. No, I wasn't allowed to use JR's Original BBQ Sauce due to legal mumbo jumbo.
Reading some internet rants about watching "older wrestlers" compete and how some fans don't like it concerns me. I am thankful that the biz still has many great vets who can add star power to a show and help keep the business going until younger talents evolve which takes time. These vets are also imperative in the advancement of the younger guys.
MVP is a big fan of the "U" (Miami) and I'm sure that I'll hear his take on the big game sooner than later. He sent me an email today with him wearing a Miami jersey but I congratulated him and will take the good natured "ribbing" in stride. Jack Swagger may not take it so well but that's their issue.
Will the all knowing ESPN give Big Ben's appearance on Raw Monday night any love? If so, and it's doubtful, it will be with tongue in cheek as no self respecting "legit" sports guy could never admit to endorsing pro wrestling even though they use "wrestling terms" all the time. Stop the pain and enjoy wrestling for what it is....an entertainment program.
ESPN has been hyping Favre vs. the Packers like it was the main event at Wrestlemania which makes sense for their network but hype is hype and every entity does it. The Favre led Vikes are the "heroes" while Green Bay seems to be the "bad guys" in this steel cage match, according to ESPN. I have many friends who work for ESPN and I enjoy the network but am not a fan of seemingly arrogant, elitist talking heads.
I will check out the football game Monday night duing Raw commercial breaks as I'm curious to see how Big Ben is utilized on Raw along with his offensive linemen. Hopefully the Pittsburgh Steelers QB is kept out of harm's way but who knows how a naturally competitive guy is going to react? Remember the Shaq Raw? I know, apples to oranges, but one simply never knows until it happens.
Great seeing and visiting with The King Sunday night and a recent poll done in Memphis regarding the Mayoral race showed Jerry leading the pack. The election is a week from this Thursday.
Considering I am laying over in Newark on Monday, I will try and answer some of your emails later tonight. No trips are planned to the "Bada Bing."

Taker to Big Show-Smackdown, 9/2/99.
I liked seeing Big Ben on Raw. The Pittsburgh media said it would have been a negative had they lost the might before the show. I hope WWE considers him again for future spots in that capacity.
I was not disappointed that Taker got the belt so fast, but I don't overly support it. He doesn't quite look 100% to me yet, but he's on the mend. My hope is Punk, Morrison, Mr. Ziggles, or Jericho start to get included in the long term picture for the World Title. I would rather Batista be left out of the World Title picture. Some of up more experienced fans would like to see some newer rivalries instead of one that has been done for almost 2 years. I liked the blog. C ya soon in Cleveland again. Thanks.
The Hell in a Cell PPV was disappointing. The best matches weren't even hell in a cell matches. Morrison vs Ziggler and the tag title bout were the best. I believe this hell in a cell concept will be changed sooner than later, it's just not going to work, especially with the PG rating.
Hello!
I attended the HIAC PPV in Newark. It was great to see it live. All three cell matches were great but I am still a firm believer in the old fashioned HIAC style. Noone got busted open, noone climbed the cage, noone crashed through any wall or ceiling, no tables (i'll concede the chair and sledgehammer, steel steps),and no one crashing through the ring apron.
The PG concept really waters down the product.
The dark match was Mike Knox Vs. Matt Hardy. The roof blew off the place when Matts music hit! He should have been on the PPC and not before it. Give the dark match to Drew and R Truth.
Don't get me wrong. I am a fan of Drews but that match should not have been on this card.
With 8 public parking areas each charging $30-$40 just to park, I am sure those folks made out like a bandit! The arena tonight in Wilkes Barre has parking right next to the arena and it only cost $10. What a difference a state makes.
I disagree with the guy above about getting rid of Stoops. What the team needs are better coordinators. Remember the domination when Bob's bro Mike led the D? Florida State does.
The Orton-Cena bout was fantastic last night, though there was no reason for it to be in a 'cell'. Orton's facial expressions were awesome.
Is there any doubt the best and most over heel right now is Punk? So they take the belt away because they think he's arrogant. Real nice, they shoot themselves in the foot trying to make a point to one guy.
I agree on Bob but key, major injuries hve hampered the Sooners. I happen to know, like and respect our coordinators. I refuse to give up on OU. Stay hooked with Punk as I happen to think that his future is bright.
Hey remember when the champ got the respect he deserved.
I don't care who the guy with the belt is, he's the guy with the belt and should be treated like a champ. It shouldn't matter if the fans don't like him or if he's in hot water with management, he's got the belt and that should be the end of it.
Punk coming out before the Undertaker...WRONG... having this match as the first match of the night...WRONG...after that match I was ready to turn the show off and go to bed.
One last thought, do you think that the UFC will have Brock's next match as the first fight of the night in November, or do you think the Champs match will close the show ???
Gee, I wonder why the UFC is kicking the WWE's butt in the ratings....
I guess I'm out of the loop as I am unaware that Punk is allegedly in anyone's "doghouse." I think that Punk is a helluva hand. I love UFC but comparing their PPV's to WWE's is like comparing BBQ to Chinese food, they're both good but totally different dishes. Seperating the three HIAC matches was imperative.

My view on older wrestlers competing - just like having young wresters compete doesn't make a match exciting, having older wrestlers compete, doesn't make a match boring. I agree with your point, JR, about the importance of vets that help younger wrestlers advance, as well as provide examples of using ring psychology and the art of promos, which few young wrestlers are good at.
Then there's the fact that we still have older wrestlers that are active that can put on match-of-the-year entertainment, as 'Taker & HBK did at Wrestlemania.
Life is better when there's a mix of things - I'm glad to see John Morrison being built to be a star and I'm glad to see the re-unifications of DX - I'm a sucker for the chemistry between Triple H and HBK - those guys are awesome separate but it's like an automatic Christmas present to see them as a combo.
HIAC was quite good, IMO.
The World Heavyweight c'ship match going first? Interesting decision and quite a big surprise actually, and a big gamble on WWE's part. However, it paid off really well; what a start to the show! Got the fans riled up, and kept a promising energy throughout the PPV.
The only disappointments (2) I had from this match were, well, the match was shorter than my expectations. Way short. These two work so well togethher, and no doubt would have put on a really good show had they been allowed more time.
However, i am aware of 'taker's troubles, and I respect him for even coming to wrestle in a cell match. In what little time they had they did manage to put on a very good match, regardless of what people say because of their disappointment by the amount of time. You cant deny the quality was there.
The other disappointment was Punk dropping the belt. I had been hoping that it wouldn't happen... but 'taker never loses a cell match, right? It was already decided.
I'm glad Punk is finally being given a chance to prove his talent. Hopefully he's made a better status for himself by the near future-- he's certainly on his way there.
Our other SD guys didn't disappoint! JoMo and Ziggler continue their impressive work. Those guys are awesome.
I'm also very impressed by Drew McIntyre. Another future superstar.
Just a thought that floated up right now; where's Matt Hardy? I think his feud with Punk was really good. A healthy Hardy can put on even better matches with Punk than they were already working. Plus, I think they're storyline was quite good too. Wouldn't be bad at all if we resume to see that feud...
I'm just waiting for Robert irvine to host RAW...
THAT would be something to see...HA!
Come on JR, loyalty is a good thing but sometimes you can take it too far. You can let loyalty blind you to doing what is best. Every time we play a top non-conference team in a big game we lose. With our only wins being Idaho State and Tulsa, the equivalent of wrestling tv squash matches that don't count, we may as well be 0-2, not 2-2.
Its time to get past your loyalty to Coach Stoops and his staff and call for the change we need! How many more big non-conference games do we need to lose? How many more bowl games? Before we admit that Coach Stoops is not the one to take us to the promised land anymore. We've peaked with him and we've got nowhere to go but downhill. Even a great booker gets replaced after a while. You know that. No matter how many shows you sell out, sooner or later the cards go stale and you need fresh blood running the action.
