Start ShoppingThanks for stopping by. What a busy week here in Norman with the Oklahoma Sooners home opener Saturday night. I'll be fortunate enough to be on the OU sideline for the game against Idaho State which will hopefully get Oklahoma back on track somewhat after last Saturday night's 14-13 loss to BYU.

The BBQ'ed Random Thoughts are ready.....
The news of Jeff Hardy's apparent arrest on drug charges is disturbing. I have spoken to no one about this matter and only know what info that I have read that was distributed by the police in North Carolina. I hope that there is better news on this matter forthcoming from Jeff or his attorney. Hopefully, Jeff has retained sufficient counsel to help him address these issues. I know that Jeff Hardy is a good young man with endless talents who finished his stint in WWE in grand fashion. Jeff, as are none of us, isn't perfect and I only hope this matter can be resolved quickly and efficiently so Jeff can move on with his life in a healthy and positive way. Jeff Hardy is innocent until proven guilty as there is likely much more to this matter than we know at this time.
Regarding the Undertaker ever losing a submission match, the answer to that question is no. Plus, the Undertaker has never lost via submission. I think, to the best of my knowledge, that both those statements are accurate.
Questions from visitors to the site...I don't know if Scott Hall would make a good announcer or not until I heard him work in that role. Scott definitely understands the business inside and out but I have no knowledge of his broadcasting skills. Scott is a witty and bright guy so my thoughts are that he would have a better chance than most succeeding as a color commentator.
.....I assume the reason that WCW never played Madison Square Garden is because the Garden wouldn't rent the arena to them. Apparently, WCW did not have issues with that as they never sued that I am aware of or threatened a law suit as far as I know. MSG has had a long standing, decades old relationship with WWE throughout the various incarnations of "The Garden."
....I have no personal interest in seeing a Chris Benoit DVD produced at this time. Perhaps I will have a different mindset in the future. I don't know the answer to if or when that might occur. Yes, Chris was a great wrestler but exploiting his image on a DVD after the way the Benoit family tragically lost their lives would be untimely in my view.
....Yes, I believe a storyline such as the Hart Foundation vs. the USA would work today if all the pieces to the puzzle were in place as they were back in the 90's. Nationalism isn't a trend or a fad. It exists in our every day life on a variety of fronts, including politics and sports.
Paul Heyman is 44 today (Friday) and we send out best wishes to "Happy Heyman." There is a misconception that Paul and I have lingering issues that prevent us from having an amicable relationship. If this is true, I am unaware of it. Paul is a unique and controversial individual, without question, but is also one of the brightest creative minds around. Paul's TV persona was that of a classic antagonist and his "on air character" was terribly easy to dislike. Paul and I both have gotten caught up in the moment while broadcasting where our natural passion got the better of us even to the point that I wanted to strangle him. Perhaps he might have felt the same but I can't speak for Paul. However, to me that verbal sparring was good TV and two polar opposites made an intriguing and effective broadcast team. Paul is and always will be one of my all time favorite broadcast partners.
When the attacks of Tuesday September 11 occurred 8 years ago, Paul did not get much of a birthday celebration as many of us in the WWE traveling party were in Houston where we ended up doing the Smackdown broadcast live from H-Town on Thursday night.
Montreal is over 10,000 fans for Breaking Point so it looks as if Sunday's PPV is going to be well over a $700K live gate.
I may have mentioned this in a past blog but for the upcoming Hulk Hogan DVD there are some really unique matches of Hogan versus a variety of opponents including 3 that The King and I narrated especially for the DVD. Two from 1980 when Hogan was a villain managed by Freddie Blassie and the hairy backed version of Hulk faced Bob Backlund for the WWWF Title from Philly and Andre The Giant in Madison Square Garden. We also narrated a Hogan vs. Kamala bout from Paul Boesch's retirement show in Houston in 1987. I think you will enjoy what you see and what you hear on these narrated bouts. Let's just say that the King and I had alot of fun with this project as you will hear.
WWE will be recording two, new Legends Roundtables later this month and will be introducing some new panelists. Jimmy Garvin and J.J. Dillon will join Michael Hayes and a panelist to be named later for two shows hosted by yours truly. The two subjects that will be discussed will be "The Lost Art of Wrestling Managers" and "The Culture of Southern Wrestling." I do not know when these programs will air but one could assume, at the earliest, in late October and sometime in November on WWE 24/7 On Demand.
I hope that you will check back with us on the special deals we will soon be launching for our USA customers that include FREE SHIPPING.
Be well.

whats going on with jeff hardy is he coming back to wwe and when..
JR,
With regards to Jeff Hardy, this is going to sound harsh, so take with a grain of salt, but I have zero sympathy IF HE IS guilty of the alleged crime(s) he was arrested for. However, IF HE IS NOT guilty of the alleged crime(s) than all power to him and God willing his career, and health move forward.
With regards to the "Montreal Screwjob" II with The Undertaker & CM Punk, it needed work. There was no build up for it and poorly done/planned; I just looked at it and was just, "that was stupid." It didn't have that excitement of a real surprise or astonishment but thats me, again, I've been watching the WWF/WWWF/WWE since I was 9 years old(read 24 years), so just a thought or two.
Monday Night Raw was good, seeing Trish again and she didn't look rusty at all.
My thoughts on the Batista/Orton fight looked too much like a squash/jobber match and like the Untdertaker/CM Punk match, it needed some building up but unfortunately Orton was fueding with Cena so it would have created a distraction.
Michaels/Hunter looked good and brought the fued with Rhodes/DiBiase up a notch. Felt like I was watching the 4 Horsemen at work courtesy of Blanchard/Arn Anderson.
MVP and Henry looked good(as usual), when will they be pushed? Under used and under utilized if you ask me. We can't have Hunter/Michaels on wheel chairs wrestling in their 70s. . .
As always JR, good to hear your thoughts, they are insightful. God speed you.
Hey Jr,
Jeff had the world and the all the fans young and old on his finger. Jeff got talent with his talent and work with all the talents he makes magic with his matches. Talent is not the word, Jeff got Raw talent as a in ring performer. Jeff needs help big time and could conquer his demons. Jeff needs GOD in his life. I will pray that he escapes all the chargers and get help. He messed up big time.
My friend said that Matt has a more passion of the business than Jeff. Get help Jeff and be the extrme engima again.
Thanks Jr
Now that Jeff Hardy is going to need a lot of money to help pay his legal bills, how fast can the WWE get him back into a storyline? Maybe it be one where he admits that CM Punk was right and Punk helps him become straight edge? Everyone is wanting to pity, poor Jeff. It's not like he hasn't had plenty of chances. My only regret is that this didn't happen a month sooner. Talk about reality tying into a storyline. It would've been great!
While I have no problem with WWE going to a PG rating. It always seemed as if the only reason was to increase the kids viewer ship with talent like Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio. With both of them having repeated drug related offenses against them, its not the thing that I would want to encourage my kids to cheer for. If WWE were to change the Hurricane character, and have Hornswoggle go back to being Little Bastard, WWE would have no cartoon characters to market to kids, and may as well go back to a more mature rating. I know, its a more adveriser friendly format, but, do advertisers want to be associated with drug related characters.
When all the 12 year olds write in criticising this comment, it will just go to prove the point that neither of these guys are the ones kids should be looking up to. Boomer Sooner. Thanks. Michael.
Jeff is a big but like all great it has its weaknesses. I found this pitiful anonymous denunciation as what cowardice is required. I hope that Jeff will have the mercy of his public in any case his real fans understand.
I do not know how this story will conclude in any case I hope that we will be back soon!
R.Davids
Hi J.R.
Just wanted to say that i hope Jeff is innocent, we can't afford now to hear these nasty things about a man who brought lots of money in to the wwe. To be honest i liked Paul Haymen, he also brought a great deal to the wwe.
Taker vs Punk. I do believe that Taker will lose, but at our next PPV which is called Hell in the Cell, I think that is wear Taker will take the Championship.
best regards, and hope to see you again in LA.
I don't think Undertaker has ever lost by submission, but was he ever knocked out by the Mandible Claw? Not sure on that one.
Hey JR. First off, Taker vs Punk, in a straight-up one on one match I will agree Punk could never beat Taker. So I'm looking forward to seeing exactly what shape the dropping shoe takes, and who's wearing it..
I agree that it's too soon for a Benoit DVD, however I do tend to be more forgiving of the man himself as I'm a believer in Chris Nowinski's study of concussion psychosis. From everything I heard he was one of the most decent people around, brain damage is the only explanation I can give as to why he did what he did. He was as much a victim as anybody.
I really look forward to seeing the two Freebirds reunite, that should be fun. And I also look forward to seeing The Lost Art of Wrestling Managers. I still insist that there's still a place for the managers, there are too many talented wrestlers out there who can't talk, and too many talkers who can't wrestle. Not putting A and B together just results in wasted talent. And if you're going to do The Culture of Southern Wrestling the panel will NEED the King of Southern Wrestling, you know of whom I speak.
Lastly, sorry to hear about Jeff. From what little I've heard it sounds like he had the unfortunately standard wrestling ****tails (ok, what's with the censorship here, there's nothing wrong with that word): Pain pills, sleeping pills, steroids (a surprise to me as Jeff has never been that big or buffed), and traces of cocaine. I'm not sure if the Intent to Distribute is something that'll stick, but as I said, I've only heard what has so far been said on the Net. Regardless, I wish him well and hope he gets through this a better person.
JR,
Just wanted to say that I've enjoyed reading your blogs, definitely a great insight on the topics you cover. I have a question for you (maybe two).
With the recently pulling of the Morrison/Ziggler match from Breaking Point due to what has been "reported" as a lack of proper finish to sustain their respective pushes. What about an old time-limit draw. Surely, these two men have the ability and stamina to pull one of these off and make it character building?? and I suppose the second question that rolls with this, is about the time-limit draw itself, you just don't see it much anymore, why do you think that is??
Thanks for the time JR! Now I'm gonna look at the BBQ!!
"And yet, Khali/Kane is still on the show? I think it's a fair bet that WWE will lose more buys on the PPV now that the IC Title match has been pulled than they would have done by pulling Kane/Khali (or even the Divas match)."
There is no Diva match scheduled for Breaking Point, and there never was. Just like at No Way Out, Backlash, Judgment Day, Extreme Rules, and SummerSlam. I find that kind of ridiculous, given how popular they are.
I won't be surprised if Morrison-Ziggler happens at the October 4 PPV, when it won't be a thrown together replacement for Mysterio-Ziggler as it would be at Breaking Point.

REALLY? He killed his family dude...I don't care what a coroner said, but Benoit put himself in that position which ultimately meant him killing his wife and kids. Just becuase the drugs took over his body, he willingly took the drugs. I hope in you living your life like him, you don't go to the drastic measures that he did. Killing your family is despicable in my book, regardless of what he supposedly lived by.
Although I respect your opinion on the benoit article. I have to disagree... He left a very hard way... but I feel that if it wasn't for his sheer determination to thrive in the business for his fans. It drove him to seek alternatives to be able to show us the greatest wrestler of all times. Unfortunately it ended badly. I still believe that there was no way he was able to do that. He was all about respect and to do something like that was completely out of his capability. I still live by what he lived by. Demand Respect and give out respect in return. Loyalty. Trust those around you, but watch out for bakstabbers. He was and still is my mentor. I remember all the good times. the years he had given us in ntertainment. That is what should be remembered of him. Not his final three days. He was a great man... and even the coroner stated that he was not responsible for his actions. You take a beating for eighteen years... try to come ou of it clean. UNfortunately it happened. I am surprised it doesnt happen more often. WWE is one of my favourite shows I watch to a passion. I am guilty as ayone watching men women beat their body up. And more often than not... their minds as well. I would love another benoit dvd.. I have everything he has ever done.
RIP Benoit... you are missed every day.
J.R.,
I must respectfully correct you on an error you made in this blog. Hulk Hogan never wrestled Kamala at the Paul Boesch Retirement Show in August 1987. He wrestled the One Man Gang.
Mike
Good evening, sir.
What are your thoughts on the Morrison/Ziggler match being inexplicably pulled from the show on Sunday? It's not like it's a stacked card as far as quantity goes and if a match absolutely, positively has to be pulled due to time constraints, why that one?
One would posit that an Intercontinental Title match (which is theoretically a major title) between two rising young stars who are on a roll right now (Morrison in particular seems to be getting better and better every week) would be given a prominent position on the card, and yet it gets pulled a day before the PPV. Why not give them the exposure? The chance to put on a great match and impress the fans, simultaneously improving the overall quality of the show that fans are being expected to pay for and elevating themselves a little in the process.
And yet, Khali/Kane is still on the show? I think it's a fair bet that WWE will lose more buys on the PPV now that the IC Title match has been pulled than they would have done by pulling Kane/Khali (or even the Divas match). It just seems counter-productive. Or is there maybe more to this story than has been let on?
Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts, sir.
Thanks in advance!
Badstreet, Atlanta GA, Badstreet, the whole US of A!
I'm happy to hear about more Legends Roundtables - those are some of my favorite features on WWE Classics.
Happy Birthday, Paul Heyman - the man certainly added a lot to the art of professional wrestling.
JR,
Love the Legends shows, I hope they freshen it up more but keep you and Michael Hayes on as mainstays just alternate the other 2 chairs 3 if your hosting the show instead of Mean Gene. You both are priceless!!!
My questions for you are
1. What happened to the hot pepper sauce you used to see on the old WWE/WWF site when the BBQ first was sold. I loved that sauce.
2. What are your favorite seasonings to use when you grill. For me it's kosher salt, fresh pepper and a spritz of olive oil for (steaks and chicken only)
Also found lamb or pork and sirloin make a mean burger in case you've never tried it.
Take Care
Byron
Ps next time your in NYC try Hill Country BBQ on 30th St it's awesome for ribs and moist brisket...until you open a JR's BBQ there at least (I hope)
JR..
Loyal 1560thegame listener and have listened to you on there the last 2 weeks. I've always watched you when I used to tune into Raw, but I grew a newfound respect and admiration for you after listening to your segments. Sean and John are great hosts and I hope you continue to call into their show for a long time to come.
Thanks.
