Random Thoughts....
I got some interesting feedback to our last blog regarding the fact that I wasn't making the drive to Dallas this Monday for Raw. You can read these emails in the feedback area of yesterday's blog from a gentleman named "Logan."
He essentially accused me of having no passion for the product and basically backing up to the pay window as a reason for not driving the 5-6 hour round trip from Norman to Dallas to hang around the locker room area and "see the boys."
I forgot to let "Logan" know that I have a doctor's appointment with a specialist on Monday that I was lucky to be able to be able to secure. Yes, Logan, I too, wish that I did not have any health issues to deal with and that I could make the trip to Dallas to hang out. But my health issues will be behind me soon enough I assure one and all but for now they are what they are.
Oh, yeah...I'm feeling better every day.
Logan also said he spend 5, whole minutes with Jesse Ventura once upon a time and that Ventura told thim that "Jim Ross was selfish and only cared about himself." That must be accurate because it was uttered by the former Governor of Minnesota who's NEVER been known to embellish a story or "break his arm patting himself on the back" as Gorilla Monsoon often said about Jesse. For the record, in the politically volatile world of pro wrestling if one doesn't look out for one's self then one can easily be taken advantage of and kicked to the curb for a variety of reasons or for no reasons. So, perhaps at the end of the day many of the "survivors" within pro wrestling have to be a little selfish to make it long term. I am indeed a survivor.
Also, I assume that when I take the time to sign things that fans send us, not associated with a purchase, etc that I am being selfish. I assume that all the Make A Wish visits that I have been involved with over the past many, many years makes me selfish as well. I might be a lot of things but being egocentrically selfish isn't one of them.
Plus, I personally don't care what Jesse Ventura thinks about me. He was great in his day as a wresting broadcaster but I wouldn't consider him to be one of my favorite partners. I am not taking any thing away from Ventura's talent but I had partners that I felt were better while working with me including Lawler, Heyman, and Cornette.
BTW...Ventura's new TV show "Conspiracy Theory" debuts tonight on truTV...just to be fair. I hope that you watch it as I'm going to check it out.
"Logan" also took me to task about not going to Iraq with the WWE on their annual pilgrimage to produce the "Tribute to the Troops." I have volunteered to go on this trip every year that it has occurred since its inception. There is limited space available on the plane with all the talent, production people and equipment. Even all the wrestlers who want to go can't go every year. Michael Cole is attending this year getting info for WWE.com, etc but the show will be voiced over, as usual, once it is edited back in Stamford the week of it's airing on NBC.
So, for all you "Logan's" out there please keep your feedback coming as it provides me with "material." Also, for the record, I am still managing a $50M plus WWE Talent payroll and dispersing said payroll on a weekly basis, consulting WWE Home Video and WWE 24/7 On Demand, Talent Relations and working with WWE.com and will continue as an on air talent for WWE 27/4 on the Legend Roundtables. I still earn my keep for those that feel a need to know.
So, Logan I feel that my 35 years in the wrestling biz counts for something. I may not be TV worthy yet, and I stress yet, but I will be sooner than later. I am just as passionate about our business as I have ever been but I'm not going to continue to be stupid and put the wrestling business before my own health. I did that once and it almost killed me.
Finally, it was also suggested that if I hated travel so much that I go to work for TNA because of their reduced schedule. Best I can tell TNA either produces TV or they do voice overs every week Plus, and more importantly, TNA has an announce team that I happen to feel are very competent. I appreciate everyone's career advise but I think I can handle this one not to mention that no one knows what's going to happen at the end of the day.
Interesting days lie ahead without question. I'm anxious to see how every thing plays out. I have had an amazing "run" since 1974 and honestly feel that I can bring things to the table within the wrestling business that others will never be able to do because of my personal experiences, my mentors, and the education I received in the territory system.
However, for once in my professional life I am putting my own, personal health first. I'm not ignoring the fact that I have to make life style changes and do other things to maintain a, hopefully, long term, quality of life.
Being a workaholic isn't something that I endorse but not being a workaholic doesn't mean that one doesn't love or have passion for their profession.
I have plenty left to offer the wrestling business and the great fans that have supported the biz and me for generations. My best on air work is still to come and when I am allowed to simply be myself I can still kick ass with the best of 'em.
Thanks for stopping by and indulging me to express another opinion. BTW...the on line store is open for business!

I know that ECW just released there Ring Announcer. There is a Great and good looking ring announcer. I am unsure if he has been discovered. There is a live webcast of him on ovwrestling.com. He is currently ring announcing for Ohio Valley Wrestling. I am sure you know about OVW. He sounds great and has an awesome look. He goes by the name Tyler Houston. If anything he could do house shows or slowly fill the ECW roll. Just trying to help. Best of luck on your return,
Rob.
JR it is sad that there are people out there as ignorant as "Logan". I appreciate everything you have ever done for this business and I completely agree with you. Your health is more important than being on TV at the moment. Getting yourself healthy has to take priority. A part of me has always wanted to commentate for wrestling for years since I have been watching you. Have even done a few Backyard events locally. So I thank you and as always wish you and your family all the best. And keep wishing you a speedy recovery. Get well, come back and prove this "Logan" wrong.
Razor McBlade of the Clan McBlade
Hi,I just wanted to say I wish you the best, and I hope you keep getting better. also I think to me you always come of as a nice, decent, hard working, and caring person,I just wanted to say thank you for your dedecation because if you weren't dedecated and didn't work hard you wouldn;t have lasted all these years in wrestling..I hope you have A Merry Christmas and I wish you better Heath in the new year.
Love Naomi
Boomer Sooner!!!
JR, keep on working hard to get well and you will! Those of us who have chronic pain, know what it's like for ignorant people to make baseless claims. Don't let it get to you as only YOU know what's best for yourself. I too wasn't selfish enough and let everyone else run my life, schedule etc... and the stress nearly killed me. Forget the fools and do what you need to do!
I'm loving your hot bbq sauce that I bought at JR's in Norman on Idaho St. weekend. I look forward to getting back in March when I fly back 'home'. Be well and God Bless......
Pete
Boomer Sooner - What point are you trying to make? That JR is trying to take credit for John Laurinaitis' work? Don't be so dumb. It is possible to run a payroll from outside a company's HQ, I used to do it myself. You see, you can log into the company's intranet, do the payroll on it and then at the HQ, an employee can print out pay checks/pay slips and send them out from there.
Did it not occur to you in this modern age that WWE does not need to physically transport cash to JR's house so he can put it in envelopes and send to the employees?
I'm sure all of Vince McMahon's work only gets done when he's in Head Office too, because God knows the internet doesn't allow remote access.
As for John Laurintaitis, he is in charge of a department. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have to do everything himself and that certain tasks (like payroll) would be delegated to his team.
Get a clue or go troll somewhere else. JR doesn't need your pointless accusations when he has health issues to deal with.
This is just my opinion but JR but I would rather you take all the time you need to get better and come back for as long as you could, hopefully a considerable ammount of time, rather than rush back for one brief ammount of time and then be gone from us for good.
Thanks for taking time out of your recovery to talk to us, Jim. Glad to know it's going well. I'm a big fan of yours up in Canada, and will continue to be.
People who say otherwise...you know, the internet's a funny thing. I guarantee, without the shield of anonymity, that character never would've had the stones to say any of that nonsense. Good on you, for being a class act, and retaining the diginity and composure we associate with you.
Wish the best for you and your family. Boomer Sooner!
I'm still interested in why the WWE would let JR manage their fifty million dollar talent payroll from Oklahoma when he isn't vice president of talent relations anymore? They send the money to Norman and let him cut the paychecks from his home office? Shawn Michaels paycheck envelope is stamped, "Norman, Oklahoma'? JR I think you could clarify what you do otherwise its not really fair to the guys back at the office in Connecticut like John Laurinaitis now is it?
Please...this one is embarrassingly bad but your Boomer Sooner got me. I process payroll info and email, fax or Federal Express it back to Stamford where it is processed. Please, no more questions about payroll as I have been doing it for over a decade. Thank you.
I only have two cents to put in and here they are: these two guys should GET A LIFE and they are both marks as am I in the pro wrestling definition of the slang term. I'm glad you put all of this to bed and are moving on to getting yourself better. To use a style from Jeff Foxworthy, here's some ways to tell if you're a "mark" of pro wrestling:
1. Rented or purchased wrestling DVDs
2. Watched wrestling on TV every week
3. Know more than one website about wrestling
4. Went to wrestling matches in person
5. Have one or more t-shirts with wrestlers images on them
6. Own books written or cpo-written by wrestlers
There are more I can list but it's true that I am a fan of wrestling and am guilty of all of the above--so what? Thirty(30) plus years of watching wrestling is not a bad thing. Once again, from your beloved Mid-South city of New Orleans we wish you a speedy recovery and Happy Holidays!
J.R,
Sorry I am changing the topic, but I had to get this off my chest. I know you've addressed it, in part, already but I can't get it out of my head.
As a lifelong wrestling fans, thanks for taking as much time as you do answering everyone’s inquiries. Since it seems as though the longer the question, the less likely it is to get answered, I’ll make this short. I consider myself the biggest “Nature Boy” Ric Flair walking the streets today. Work ethic, ring psychology, storytelling, etc. In a comment you made after WrestleMania, you attempted to dissuade Flair from ever stepping foot in the ring again (I believe you even made mention of tagging with Reid). Now, after the send off that WWE provided someone of his stature, he goes and wrestles again in Australia. For those of us who have passionately proclaimed Flair as the greatest hand in the history of the business, this doesn’t sit well with me. I guess it begs the question, why is it okay now?
You, being someone Richard Fliehr would listen to, must find a way to step in and prevent him from spitting in the face of those of us who have purchased the merchandise, bought the tickets and shouted his accolades from the mountain top.
Steven
Marian Del Rey
Your still missing the point.
It is not your job to stick your nose into this. Its not your business to speak on behalf of JR. He is capable of doing that himself. I made my comments to Ross and he responded in a respectful manner with clarification. You took it upon your self to spend all day and night monitoring the feedback section and making weasely little rude comments my way.
JR did handle HIS respone with class. YOU and others didnt.
I say whats on my mind, and what I percieved as JRs lack of passion was on MY mind. I didnt want to beat around the bush, I wanted to tell him what exactly was on my mind. He responded in a classy manner with clarification, YOU did not.
You say act like an adult, yet you make fun of me because I chose "Logan" as a screename on a BBQ website. Grow up..."Marina Del Rey"
You continue to go on and on smooching up to JR, yet nobody asked you anything. You stuck your nose into this and made immature comments about my screename and answered questions on behalf of Jim.
This is JRs site, not yours. We are encouraged to leave feedback and ask questions to Jim Ross...not "Marina Del Rey" aka "John". Jim is fully capable of answering questions and speaking for himself, so go find something better to do with your time pal, perhaps munch on some BBQ sauce and calm yourself down a bit.
Lighten Up Francis
"Logan",
"Typical Californian." I'm not from California, I'm in the military stationed in California. I've also been deployed to Iraq...if I didn't mention that you would have followed-up by asking me why I hadn't deployed like other service members like you did questioning Jim Ross' allegiance to his company in asking him how many trips he's made to the Middle East...another case of you opening your mouth and inserting both feet.
What irritates so many people and is the result of you getting constantly slapped around this website is that you could have simply voiced your opinion to Jim Ross in that you prefered his earlier announcing style to his current one and left it and that.
But instead, you insulted him by questioning his integrity by stating, "I guess that shows your interest level in WWE if it doesn't have a signed check attached to it."
That was a below-the-belt, insulting, and juvenile remark.
Grow up and conduct yourself like an adult when conversing with other adults, especially Jim Ross, the owner of this website and someone who you have never met but profess to be a big fan of but then state that he has no problem not showing up to a Dallas WWE event due to compacency but who will proft nonetheless by having his BBQ catered there...that was very adult-like and respectful, wasn't it?
This will be my last post to you on this subject because you can only lead a horse to water so many times.
John
FOUR MORE YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JR FOR PRESIDENT XD
Hello JR, I have had the pleasure of listening to you do some of the greatest matches in wrestling history for many many years. In my humble opinion you are the best ive ever heard period. You have the ability to take a poor match and make it watchable, a good match great, and a great match one for the ages. Only a select few have had that ability, you sir, Gordon Solie (god rest) and maybe Mike Tennay, in my opinion. You sir are the best.
JR, you are a much better man than I am. You had no obligation to reply to "Logan", but you handled it with class. Those of us that have been with you since the Ross Report days can tell when your kinda peeved or irritated, and you sounded it here, but you still managed to keep it at a PG level. I applaud you for that. Logan seems to be one of those looking for attention and 15 minutes of fames, and now he's had it. It would be interesting to see if he posted his "conversation" with you on another one of those idiot blogs. I happen to know that the Governor spoke highly of you on Larry King abck when he ran for Gov the first time, and I see no reason for him to change. You are a dedicated man, and some see people like you who always do their best as "yess men" or "asskissers", but they are usually like Logan, still living with Mom and writing behind a fake name and insulting a legend. Let me offer an apology on behalf of all of the rest of your fans that you have to put up with little kids like that during your recovery time.
I am looking forward to you returning...hopefully around the same time that the whole Raw guest host concept dies and we have a new "Commissioner" named good ole JR.
PS- Still praying for you, and still reccommend solumedrol, as it can speed nerve regeneration up to 3x faster than prednisone, but keep on keeping on. I am being biased there because I want you back sooner rather than later. Peace and many blessings!
Jesse
JR,
The first time I watch the WWE I fell in love with your announcing I have been a fan ever since (10) years.
Two questions:
Miss You Jr Good Luck With You Health And Great BBq sasavand Please don't go to Tna!!!!!!
P.s: Do you like calling the action With Todd Grishams?
Richard Barone
Marina Del Rey, I wasnt aware your name is John. I could have sworn your name was MARK.
This is not the "Marina Del Rey" show. So quit trying to drag this thing on with your smarky little comments directed at me.
Your not JRs mouthpiece, so quit trying so hard to kiss up to him. You said what you had to say, move along Johnny Boy.
And nobody cares that you live next to Steve Austin.
I made my comments to Jim, he responded with clarification. You stuck your nose in. See who doesnt belong in that equation? Yeah, you.
Typical Californian.
You can now take yourself and your nose with you and quit making your smarky little comments directed at me.
Ok "John" ?
Logan,
No, my drivers license says "John" which is also included at the end of every post I've submitted. And Marina del Rey is the city I live in (same as Steve Austin BTW) and not a made up city in fantasy land or wherever Wolverine lives.
Please stop embarassing yourself with your posts.
JOHN (I wrote it in caps for you to catch this time around).
JR,
I love you in the WWE and I've heard your numerous interviews on the Big Show in Tulsa. I'm not a Sooner fan, I went to TU and now OSU. I just wanted to say I appreciate what you do. Now if you do decide to hang up your WWE headset, can you please rescue Oklahoma from Bob Berry? PLEASE!!!
And does it say Marina Del Rey on your drivers license pal?
So what, my screen name on JRs BBQ website is Logan. I am a fan of Wolverine. Big deal. I didnt know this was a formal business gathering that required our real names and credentials listed.
Once again I will say, I made my comments and JR responded with clarification. You decide to waltz on over and stick your noise in making fun of my screen name and calling me juvenile and all that. Your the one who is looking juvenile in all this.
As JR would say; Lighten Up Francis.
You know, JR, I've been watching, and listening, to pro wrestling since the 80's. Most people will say Solie was the best and I will respectfully disagree. YOU are the best there is, was and ever will be (to steal a phrase). You have called the matches I remember most and some events I wish had NEVER occured (Over the Edge 99). If you were to stop your pro wrestling career tomorrow, it wouldn't be the same, but, I would respect your decision and would look forward to the next Jr project. We, the fans, have your back and are looking forward to seeing you back on TV when YOU are felling up to it. One's health is most important and if people don't understand that, well, tough. Like I tell my kids when they say someone was giving them sh*t ... those people don't pay your bills, so who cares. Take care JR.
Logan...yes, I'm kissing up to Jim Ross in hopes of him inviting me over to his house for some BBQ. I've been a fan of professional wrestling since the early 80s and accept it for what it is: a business. Jim Ross' announcing style over the years has changed in accordance to how his employer, Vince McMahon, wants his product produced. Jim and other announcers can provide feedback but at the end of the day they are employees who do what their bosses tell them to do. Jim Ross has indicated numerous times that Vince McMahon has directed him to shift his annoucing style away from what he did in Mid South, WCW, WWF to a more low key, story-telling style. It has nothing to do with losing his passion or just collecting a paycheck...he's not working for free so he must do what all employees do and follow the direction his employer gives him.--John
PS--And just when I thought you couldn't be any more juvenile, you go ahead and reveal that Logan is not your real name but taken from a comic book. Again, you must be at least in your mid-20s...please stop taking professional wrestling so seriously.
And no, I am not back peddling to save face. I meant what I said. JR is the greatest of all time. I just doubted his passion for the business these days and he responded with clarification.
Hey Marina Del Rey can you not kiss up to JR so much? Its getting lame.
You seem to be actively monitoring the feedback section as well, in attemp to paint me as a punk kid and to kiss up to Jim some more. If I was looking for attention to see if my name is mentioned, I would have but my real first and last name dont ya think? I chose Logan because I am a Wolverine fan.
There is nothing juvenile or rambling about my comments. I said what I had to say and he responded with clarification. There was no bashing, or rude insults or comments directed his way or mine. He and I handled it in an adult manner, just simple friendly discussion is all.
So quit trying to paint me as some punk heel.
lol Will. that was a random ending statement
Be nice to J.R!
Logan...you are acting like a "kid" because of your juvenile ramblings about a professional wrestling announcer that you have never met. You are acting like a "kid" because of your actively monitoring the feedback section in hopes of someone mentioning your name. You are acting like a "kid" for taking Jesse Ventura's word as gospel after a five minute interaction. You are at least in your mid-20s...stop taking things so seriously and move on.--John
PS--Jim, now aren't you glad you took the time to address Logan's feelings? That's a joke, by the way.
If Logan has so much spare time to critque Mr Ross I say the first person he should take a look at is himself. So now he is back peddling to save face. My self I have enjoyed JR since I found a syndicated show on a Sunday night in about 1980 that featured the tag team of Sting and Rick Steiner, Eddie Gilbert, Dr Death Steve Williams, Ted DiBiasie, Jim Duggan, The One Man Gang, Gentleman Chris Adams and many more. I have enjoyed JR through WCW WWF & WWE and while I have a soft spot for Taz I could never stand Mike Tenay. This is just a personal preference I'm sure there are plenty who enjoy him. Do I miss JR yes I do even though I prefer Penn State. So take care of yourself and come back soon.
PS. I just placed my first order on Cyber Monday to give a friend for Christmas. He likes hot & spicy so I ordered a red hot tag special and a chipotle ketchup.
You got a passion for the bussiness. that logan guy need to get a clue and shut his trap up. U the man. Hope the sooners get a bowl game.
Hey JR, before I go on about this dumb Logan guy I just wanted to say that I read your blog about going to the husker sooner game and I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the nice things that you said about our fans. I hope you had a great experience at memorial stadium. For me it was my favorite game that I have been able to attend so far and who better than it being against our awesome rivals the Sooners. What a great rivalry that has been over the years.
Ok back to this Logan fool I really just have to laugh because that is rediculous. JR you are a legand and will forever be missed when you do decide to hang up that famous black hat of yours which I know wont be for quite some time! Instead of being like this Logan guy I would like to thank you for all of the years of your memorable comentating and many other awesome contributions you have made to wwe and fans all over the world. Keep getting better and I cant wait to see you back in action! God Bless
P.S you will be cheering for the good ol huskers in the Big XII Championship right :)
Your the Man JR
This "kid" has had the pleasure of watching Jim Ross since 1988 on WTBS. I have watched Jim on Saturday Mornings on the Power Hour to Wrestlemania in front of 70,000. I am not some jabroni who just started watching Smackdown last month.
Im glad JR took the time to clarify some things I said. I never disliked Jim, I just doubted his passion to WWE these days. I honestly mean that. Not one part of me dislikes JR at all. I love the dude. He is the greatest announcer of all time, and thanks to him, wrestling has been nice and easy to listen to for over 20 years.
As a fan or wrestling and Jim Ross, I watch some of the classics he called in the late 80s early 90s in WCW, whether it be on TBS TV or PPV, or the matches he called in the late 90s early 2000s and it was amazing! Intense, emotional, and passionate announcing that you can feel. I miss that Jim Ross and hope that if WWE doesnt let him be the lead announcer, letting him be himself, then hopefully TNA will let that happen. Yeah they have Tenay and Tazz but there is plenty of room for the greatest of all time.
Now apparently WWE produces their announcers to be all blah and boring. I hate that. Cole is a giggly goof, Grisham sounds robotic, and unfortunately Jim sounds like he doesnt want to be there. Judging by what he said, he still loves the biz and wants to be their, its just that WWE produces them to have a different approach to broadcasting.
I rewatched the hall of fame video when they announced JR was inducted and it was Vince Mcmahon himself who said "You feel his passion for this business" I agree. The greatest play by play man of all time!
Jim if you do indeed come back to WWE, I hope so much they let you do what you do best which is be the lead play by play guy , or "storyteller". Im sure the action in the ring will allow your natural excitement and passion to come out again.
What the hell is WWE thinking? They have the greatest broadcaster ever....let him do what he does best. When he retires, then you can go with Grisham and "Cawler"
Jim...it's a little disheartening to see you dedicate so much space to some kid named Logan and his opinions. C'mon, you're better than that, a lot better.--John
Good stuff J.R.!
Now that is what i call taking the talking heads to the wood shed! =)
You have more then earned the right to do as you please and should not be questioned on it. What you have provided us fans with over the years has been more then sufficient.
The way i see it, when you return...it's just the icing on the Cake for us. It's like getting HBK back in 2002 after 4 yrs. Very fitting considering your the HBK of announcers. You will be back and better then ever, no doubt in my mind. - Kilgore
Wow! Drama! I don't know if this accounts for anything but Mr. Ross, you have always been my favorite announcer since Gorrilla and the Brain. I know you are not losing sleep over the comments made by Logan but I wouldn't trip, though. BTW, you rock! Oh, on a personal note, I have finally figured out how to make a purchase through your store! Not that it matters but I'm the blind guy who had the "issues"?
Well I can say I strongly disagree with Logan. Reading your blogs since the days of The Ross Report, you've never come off as selfish.
I also can't imagine that WWE would be unwise enough not to give you an outstanding deal. They made the mistake a few years ago of not fully appreciating what you bring to the table, and I'd hope they have learnt something from that experience.
You are possibly the best sports announcer alive today, and you are certainly the best announcer the wrestling business has ever seen. A big main event just isn't the same without the homegrown passion, expertise, and excitement you bring to the table.
I may come off as a "mark" in this comment, which is why I hesitated to post it, but I am not "a mark" at all. I simply have strong opinions about what I enjoy watching or listening to. If I believe something then I do not see a reason why I should let the opinions of others prevent me from writing it. I hope you continue calling matches for as long as you physically can.
Each match I hear you call is special, because I know, like all artists, there will come a time that you feel you can no longer continue to add more gems to the history of your portfolio. Until that time, I think people should be appreciative of your talents while you are still able to provide them. It is a part of the human condition to devalue things we feel we securely have, but the ones who take you for granted will be the same ones who are surprised to find they miss you when the day ever comes that you are gone.

JR, interesting that you siad you are still managing a $50M WWE talent payroll. I thought you left Talent Relations years ago, and that Johnny Ace is doing that now. How can you manage the payroll from Oklahoma anyway when the office and the money are in Connecticut?
Good for you JR! Who ever Logan is and where he comes from is probably no where near the inside of wrestling biz or he would see what all of your fans and people in the biz see or know. You are a dedicated. hard working man who knows the wrestling industry more then most and certainly better then this man. I'm sure the guys in the locker room know how you feel about them and are concerned with your health over wheter you show up in Dallas. Keep up the great work! Hope you'll be back soon! Your health is the most important thing for sure! You are loved by many.
"Once upon a time" occured last year in Clifton New Jersey at a Barnes and Noble store when Jesse was signing copies of his new book. I was one of the last in line, and when Jesse was done he hung around and chatted with a few of us. I couldnt think of much to say to him, I asked if he still watched wrestling, another guy asked how he liked working with Vince, thats when I chimed in with "how about working with JR in WCW?" Thats when said "ha Jim Ross only cares about Jim Ross...selfish guy"
I apologize if I came off rude to you Jim.
You are my favorite wrestling announcer of all time. You are considered the greatest wrestling announcer of all time (I agree) You have cemented your legacy in the business. Called some of the biggest matches, and biggest moments that will live on forever on dvd.
If you say you still have a passion for WWE and wrestling, then great. From someone who has watched you for 20 years calling the matches, I havent seen that passion from you for a few years now. It just doesnt seem like you have fun or enjoy it like you used to, thats the way it comes off on TV, Just my opinion. Plus now when I read these blogs, you talk about how you despise the travel schedule and all that, so seeing you with less passion on TV and talking about hating travel, makes me wonder why you even continue on with the announcing job. Maybe its the work enviorment, maybe its the product, I dunno, but something just seems different.
I forget who said it, but someone during your Hall of Fame video (maybe Edge?) said "you can feel his enthusiasm" or something like that....I dont feel that enthusiasm anymore when it comes to wrestling. I do when you talk about Sooners or BBQ though. Thats why I figured maybe you have grown tired and bored with WWE and a change of scenary in TNA would bring the "old JR" back.
If you feel your best announcing work is yet to come, I hope your right. I just dont see that happening while Grishams got the "storyteller" role.
When it comes to play by play in pro wrestling, there is Jim Ross..... and then there is everyone else.
I wish you good luck with your BBQ biz, and a long happy healthy life, and thank you for all your contributions to the wrestling business.
I respect all wrestling fans no matter if I personally agree with their opinions or not. That's why I did not delete your comments which I could have easily done. The requirements on a wrestling announcer on how some want the product presented and how the announcers are produced has changed how I perform my work. I haven't forgotten how to get excited, execute play by play, impart emotion and to get genuinely amped about what I am seeing. However, how one is produced and even to a significant degree what we see in the ring affects what one hears. I'm an old school, attitudinal guy in a PG world which is obviously going to change one's approach to the new presentation and today's product. I still love wrestling and if I didn't I would simply retire and move on as the wrestling business, how we live, and the investments that we have made has allowed my family the financial security to call it a day. I'm just not ready to tap and will hopefully have many more years of doing what I love. If that doesn't work out, I have no regrets and will never look back and say what if? If one were to poll many wrestlers by and large, Ventura would be likely positioned as a talented talker, an average wrestler, and one who parlayed opportunities to his advantage thanks to making informed decisions. I wish Jesse no ill will and hope he remains healthy and successful but his view of the world and mine are not exactly the same. That doesn't make him wrong nor me wrong but Ventura dances to the beat of a different drum on many issues.
