J.R. from the UK!

Posted in:

Here we are in Manchester where it is rainy and cool.
That’s a revelation, right?

Random thoughts....

Tazz has been here since Sunday and he’s not happy especially after missing the big Jets win on Sunday.

Tazz likes humas. Who would have “thunk” it?

I can’t get mushy peas. I can order them but don’t care to eat the non seasoned Gerber baby food-like UK restaurant staple.

Listening to Gorillas Monsoon and Jesse Ventura doing commentary on a Gene Okerlund hosted WWE broadcast. Lots of fun, the broadcast team was great in the 80’s.

Raw was wild and “raw” Monday night with many behind the scenes TV production challenges or so I was told by those that were there. Getting ready to watch it in a few moments.

Manchester is one of approximately 16 WWE sellouts on this tour. We are recording 2 Friday nite Smackdowns Tuesday nite. Hope the pipes hold out. These Smackdowns will take us right up to the Survivor Series in Boston.

I expect Tuesday night to be a TV production adventure. Looking forward to it. Jeff vs ‘Taker should be special. I’m taking the Deadman and the “under.”

Watching Dynamite Kid as I write this. He was pretty damn amazing.

Flew over w/ the King as we arrived Monday morning at 6:22 a.m. Monday morning after almost an 8 hour flight from Chicago.

King must have dug into his Halloween candy stash for this jaunt. “Milk Dud” city.

Elijah Burke’s whereabouts are now well know as he was cut by the WWE in recent hours. Burke is a good talker and if I were him in addition to staying in wrestling, if he chooses, I would give Hollywood a shot. Tough break for Elijah but he cannot look at it as the world’s end.

Getting “let go” happens to the best of us. :)

Nice win for OU at College Station Saturday. My Sooners are still in “the hunt” but the dangerous Texas Tech comes to Norman in a week or so. Should be one of the biggest games of the year. OU is 59-2 at home in the Stoops’ era since ‘99. The mad professor Mike Leach has a helluva team and will be hard to handle the day before Survivor Series.

Dusty Rhodes looked about as flattering in polk a dots as Ol J.R. did in his cute, sailor’s suit on Halloween night.

The King was smiling from ear to ear when I saw him after Raw Monday nite at the hotel when he found 50 pounds during that that you won’t see on TV. I don’t mean Milk Duds pounds but currency.

Tazz and I pre-gamed for a few hours Monday night getting ready for a monster Tuesday night. We did not make it to the arena Monday night as I had WWE biz to attend to and then we discussed Tuesday night.

UK fans have amazing passion without question. It helps every event immensely.

I’m still a Lesnar “lean” for Saturday nite in Vegas vs former Oklahoma State star Randy Couture. If Brock makes no major errors early and Couture can survive the last 2 rounds against a man who will out weigh him 55 pounds at match time it makes this a helluva interesting fight. I’ll be watching w/ some Soooner coaches on Saturday night.

Lesnar saying he did not want to come to the WWE out of the University of Minnesota makes for an intriging sound byte but that’s about all. Lesnar seemed ok to me with signing w/ the WWE and earned over 7 figures his 3rd or 4th year in the biz. Bottom line after all the posturing, Lesnar hated traveling.

Ever have a tuna and cucumber sandwich for a late nite snack? I just did here in the UK.

Tazz and I were talking about all the legit tough guys who were trained here in the UK in Wigan. Guys w/ no remorse and high tolerences of pain.

One of the lesser discussed guys out of that famous concentration camp for submission wrestling is Roy Boyd aka Johnny Eagles who was also a card shark. Trust me on that one.

Why does the American Presidential race have to be seemingly, strictly about race to so many people?

I was honored to sign a fan’s Bret Hart autobiography earlier today here in the UK right under “The Hitman’s” signature.
What a read.

Speaking of Hitman, I wonder if UK boxing star Rickey Hatton will join us Tuesday night in his hometown? Tough dude.

Still listening to Monsoon and the Body call wrestler’s “out” during the ‘89 Survivor Series when grapplers made mistakes. If Tazz and I did that we would be the victim of MySpace and other net rebellions not to mention HQ.

For the record, in this blog we will mention our Bar-B-Q products among other non ‘rasslin subjects. If you are uncomfortable with such then why bother to read it? If it is to go on other sites and to pick it a part then have at it. I’ll get over it...somehow.

How about those specials we have for the holidays?!
I hope that you will jump all over them and place your orders early.

Got to roll...Raw just started live here in the UK on Sky Sports.

Boomer Sooner...and cheers!
J.R.

JR, like everything else in a chippy, mushy peas require salt & vinegar.

Ah the '89 Survivor Series! That actually happens to be one of my most favorite PPVs of all time, certainly as far as the SvS goes. Relatively speaking, I began watching WW(E) at that time and the card was a great one. Demolition, Jake and Hulk vs. Zeus, DiBiase and Powers of Pain. DiBiase always knew how to carry Hulk to a decent match, as their 1-on-1 finish that night proved.

Who could ever forget the savage team of Piper-Snuka-Bushwhackers? Now there's a group of guys you want over for Thanksgiving dinner!

The ending of SvS '89 was great too, with the Warrior clotheslining Heenan on his way to the back. It was a "mark out" moment and Heenan was involved in many fond childhood wrestling memories. Remember when the Bossman (God rest his soul) finally gave the Weasel the ol' ball and chain? Good times.

The commentating by Gorilla and Jesse was great as well. You hit it, JR. The '80s had some great broadcasting. I think you and Tazz are proving week in and week out that you two are steadily moving up the charts, so to speak, as far as top 10 announcing duos are concerned. Keep it up!

PS: Maybe I should change my alias to Kung Fu Naki Fan, heh. I'm so happy to see him get this mini-push.

I read this eating a tuna Sandwhich and skittles.

SPOOKY.

But yeah, enjoy the weird little cultural differences of the UK.  We made them all by ourselves :)

We've got one heck of a "MasterMind" group of those "legit tough guys who were trained here in the UK in Wigan. Guys w/ no remorse and high tolerences of pain" over at Scientific Wrestling (guys like Karl Gotch and Billy Robinson)!!

1) Raw wasn't live on Sky Sports.

2) You've spelt Ricky Hatton wrong.

Hi J.R!

I Just Wanted To Tell You That I Hope Your  Enjoying Your Time Here In The UK, And That If You Want Some Real British Food, See If You Can Get A Fix Of Some Fish 'n Chips. I Hope That I Can Go To See Smackdown! & ECW Next April, And As I'm Just 13, I Am Hoping My Mum Will Buy Tickets For Christmas....

P.S: I Am Hoping That Steve Austin Will Be Inducted Into The 2009 Hall Of Fame, And I Can't Think Anyone More Deserving To Induct Him, Than You.

hope you enjoy your time in the UK. Yeh the food up north is strange, i wouldn't bother and come down South instead ;) come to Cornwall in the South West and have a Cornish Pasty or try some fish & chips then you'll experience British food.

Anyway, i attended a Smackdown/ECW House show in Cardiff, Wales and i thought it was terrific, the superstars seemed to enjoy being there and the event went on for nearly 3 and a half hours!! I love the UK tours, just a shame they don't do UK PPV's anymore!!

Enjoy it JR!!

Hope you are enjoying your time in the UK J.R.! ...It is really cold and wet at the moment ...not to mention WINDY! we are braced for a big storm I hear.

I have never been to Manchester us Londoner tend not to branch out haha! - I hope you can get a fix of BBQ Food and Sauce up there (I have 4 different types in my fridge!).

You should try some of the Northern foods if you thought tuna and cucumber sandwich was strange. LOL

Good luck , Wrap up warm.

Typical, the first time I can't make the TV tapings since you started doing them in the UK, and it's a double bill! Psh, just my luck!

I'm currently at Uni now, and so the way I get my fix of Raw, Smackdown and ECW is send blank DVD's to my cousin and he records them and sends the discs back to me. See that's commitment haha!

Hope you've been enjoying your latest visit to Blighty, and you'd better get used to those mushy peas, otherwise you'll never truly experience a proper British meal of Fish and Chips! Hope you've been getting the scraps with them aswell, then you're doing it hardcore! :P

Take care, and hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on tickets come the next UK tapings!
