J.R.'s BBQ Sooner Pigskin Report (from ouinsider.com)

Posted in:
Greetings from under the black, 200X Resistol hat from your resident BBQ and Sooner loving fan who is much happier that the players are going through two-a-day workouts in the Oklahoma sun rather than yours truly. See inside for what I've heard about the first week of practice, our Sooners in the NFL and much, much more. The Sooners are gearing up for their much anticipated Saturday morning scrimmage at the stadium that gets underway at 11 a.m., which is open to the public unlike regular Sooner practices. For many reasons, namely and perhaps simply because it is football season in Norman, and also because of the Sooner QB situation one would expect a healthy turnout this Saturday morning. I certainly am looking forward to watching the scrimmage and may even make Thursday night’s practice as the Sooners are off on Friday. Read the rest of the story » Webmaster

just ate at jrs we live in moore very good food. Alot of history on those walls. Been a wrestling fan for years since mid south lot of pictures of the stars of yesteryear.

What do you think to the predictable finish of the Joe/Angle main event at Hard Justice? I feel the partner turn to help out the opponent of your former partner is predictable and used too often. It was obvious even to people who don't watch TNA that Karen Angle would side with her husband and double cross Samoa Joe. By the way Samoa Joe needs signing.

Hey J.R., I really enjoyed watching The Marine the other day!...Do you think that if there was a "Marine 2", it would be just as popular and successful as the first one?...

Seeing how they not only did two hit songs for the soundtrack, but composed the entire original score for Man on the Moon, did you ever meet Michael Stipe or any of the other members of R.E.M. while on the set of the film?

hey j.r. how come you never say O MY GOD KING I LOVE THESE!! FRUITY DELICIOUS FRUITY SKITTLES!! now its snickers! go back to the skittles Please!! Its so Awesome!! Peace J.R.!! -Dave

when will natalie niedhart make her wwe debut?

Hey JR, hope all is well with your restaurant and health. I was re-reading some of Eric Bischoff's "Controversy Creates Cash" book and in there he says that when he was hired by WCW, he was told to put pressure on JR and Tony Schiavone to let them know that there is someone there to take their place if you or Schiavone got out of line. I was wondering, how did you feel when Bischoff was hired as an announcer and what were your first impressions of him? Thanks

JR, had the BBQ Saturday after it opened. Love the sides, the sauce was excellent as was the beef rib and brisket:) I have nothing but excellent things to say about your friendly staff. Everyone went out of their way to say hello. I appreciated it a lot. I brought my buddy Nate Lassiter-the ex back up catcher for the Rangers, bull pen catcher and Norman high (not sure which one); JV coach. All was great. Like you I work out of NYC after 3 war tours in Afghan and Iraq and retired at young 43. I work with Stampede from 88-91 as Ronald Trump and Hugh Hart---being an American in Canada after the road trips around BC, Alberta drained the savings and the fact cruisers and managers were not so in demand it lead me back to the Unversity of OK and the Army. I was so worried about being deported it was hard if I took another job in canada under the table; but I just kept taking bless his heart-Stu's bad checks:) They were harder than his constant streching of me--I never yelled and I always ate Sunday dinner there:) So, you know:):) The cats and the fruit:) gawl do Miss Helen-she always said I was too honest for the business-I always felt you would understand that more than anyone being a gentleman yourself. I keep a house in Norman over on the east side over in the Shadowlake addition and do this commute thing to NYC. Yeah I really live on Wall Street there. It is not as impressive as they say. I actually started in Chris Benoit class; and I was surprised and forgot about Steve Blackman when I saw all the media coverage; which I shouldn't since he used to German me as a rib in all the non televised shows)-I remebered the good Dr. Johnathan Holiday and Johnny Smith but forgot Blackman:) The Chris thing what can I say---I just remember him busting his behind with Johnny Smith against Cuban Assassin and Jerry Morrow at spot shows wherever it was-Elks Lodges, etc. I remember the trips with him and that oversized nappy parka and ratty converse tennis shoes; and the rows with the Bulldogs and Bruce (and since I lived with Bruce you know that meant drama) I miss Pill and Owen-and Pill-you know his musical tastes. They even conned me into making those stupid Bad-danas they sold at spot shows:)I had a sweet Buick after the Army, Pill, Bruce, Owen and Larry Cameron would take instead it instead of the van--and I never heard so many screaming guitars then I did with Pill and his commentary on anything with a pop or soul beat:). I miss Larry, Dj Pete, Davey (who was always good to me); Mike Shaw not so much, Steve Strong, ughhh--like Pill I liked being the only guy ever brought into the Harts. I talk to Bruce fairly often-but you know he should filter himself every so often. Bret not as much. You and I met briefly at Owen's funeral. I miss him-I was always friendly with Martha cause I got her-but never have talked since-I have so many good memories of O-like the time no one ever showed me the Andre tied in the ropes-and we were in Saskatechewan and I could not get the hang out of it so I told him to boot me to death:) People always ask if I know you as I live in Norman but we never have had the chance. We just seem to have lots of friends in common. we have crossed paths so very briefly. When I fly home I go on Northwest and have seen the King a lot in the airport in Memphis. I know he like the Crowne Plaza on 49th as I work on 53rd street in NYC right next to Letterman. I had the opportunity to upgrade Bill Eadie on a flight to Atlanta last week on re-route-he is still a gentleman; Haliburton in hand and he had been in New Jersey on one of those autograph signings. Like I said a class act-he says after all this time he just likes to go home after tours-he misses his family. I always thought Stampede and Mid South were so similar-it would have been a pleasure to have been there in the hey day. I actually used to steal a lot of the free birds stuff cause no one saw the interviews there. You have to try the BBQ joint RUB on 23rd and 7th. I was pleasantly surprised it is next to the Gotham Comedy club. They have a smoker-and they feed you. their brisket blew me away. The guy is a Texan and I am sure you would like it---you saved me the drive to go to Clark's in Tioga Texas. I cannot keep raving about your sauce. I wanted to say hello and I will when I come home over the labor day weekend if you are in. I am an OU boy too--worked in the football dorm as an RA when I went there-I know Cale fairly well in the day:) Sorry wanted to catch up; and after the Chris thing I turned off the TV for a few weeks it was kind of hard to watch. I am not sure where this will post but my phone is located in Norman-but I am here in NYC 3 weeks out of the month 405-213-6232 --continued success brother in all your endeavors. Ben Ryan

J.R. with Vince McMahon Sr. & Verne Gagne in the WWE Hall of Fame, What do you think of, or has their been discussion of Toots Mondt, Fritz Von Erich, or any other prominent promoter of years past getting inducted? What about Jim Crockett or Bill Watts? Just Curious.

JR, speaking of Sooners, I was wondering how Jake Hager was coming along and if he is doing well? Hope to see him on WWE programming in the next few years.

J.R., while reading up on our beloved Sooners, I stumbled upon an online petition to have the story of "The Undefeated" OU teams from the 50's made into a TV (or feature film) movie. I thought you might want to share this petition to your many fans in hopes of gaining even more signatures. The petition can be found at http://www.petitiononline.com/Sooners/petition.html. Many thanks in advance and Boomer Sooner! L.J. Wheeler

When is Shane going to take over Vince's heel role? Shane is one of the best and most under used heels in the WWE. And, unlike Vince who can actually play a decent face every now and then, Shane really can only play a heel. So why isn't he used more as a heel and when do you think he will take over Vince's heel role?

J.R. Do you know if the next Saturday Night's Main even will be 90 minutes or 2 hours?? I'm just wondering because they have been different lengths the different times that they have occured.

jr if you could bring back one wrestler who had died young like under tha age of 50 who would it be and why?
