J.R.'s RAW Thoughts...

The all star tandem of John Cena and Batista imploded Monday nite and lost the World Tag Titles back to Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase after a 7 day reign. Then Cena and the Animal had a predictable brawl... predictable in the sense that the 2 popular superstars obviously were not on the same page. The brawl certainly increased my interest in Cena and Batista’s Summerslam bout. It will be interesting to see what role the live crowd in Indy plays, if any, when these two have their alpha male battle. This one could go either way and if Batista’s wheel is good to go I’m leaning toward the Animal. That probably guarantees a Cena win.
C.M. Punk is fighting for respect and to retain the World’s Title against the dangerous JBL. I see Punk winning but it won’t be easy. Interesting clash of wrestling styles also. The question here is where does a loss put Punk? Fluke? Overachiever? Back to the drawing board? Punk has never been in a match in his life this important all things considered.
Santino Marella thinks he’s Olympian Michael Phelps, which isn’t the greatest of compliments of the gold medalist. Interesting inter gender title bout...an Adamle original. Mickie James lost Monday night in her home town...gasp...I never would have thought it.
It will be great to see HBK at Summerslam but I fear what we might hear. Something tells me Chris Jericho is the kind of guy to make his presence felt. When is enough..enough?
I liked William Regal’s aggressiveness but am not wild about his wrestling attire. He’s probably not overwhelmed w/ my black hat so we’re likely even.
GM Adamle is doing a much better job than many predicted. Adamle’s 2nd show was another solid effort.
I enjoyed Raw from my hotel room in Norfolk where Smackdown will be taped for Friday night airing. No official word to me regarding Mick Foley’s physical condition so my friend Tazz might be sitting in again w/ yours truly this week. I prep the same way no matter who I work with so it will be another exciting final SD prior to S’Slam.
How sad is it what the maniacal Edge did to “Mick-Kind” on the 10th anniversary of the most famous Hell in a Cell match ever? This will be Taker’s 9th Hell in a Cell match where brutality and casualties will be prevalent. EMT’s will be well staffed for Sunday’s Slobber-Knocker which seems like it should close the show. Or at least that’s one man’s opinion. We’ll have more on Summerslam later in the week.
Well, the new site is up. I hope you’ll check it out and spend a few minutes looking around. Both restaurants are staying busy and our Beef Jerky biz has exploded. Life is good...Summerslam is Sunday and college football season starts in Norman on Saturday, August 30 the day before a huge tv production day in ST. Louis which is the day before Labor Day. OU’s closed scrimmage Saturday at the stadium that I attended as a guest of head coach Bob Stoops brought a smile, I know the Bells palsy, or as best I could smile to my face. It’s going to be an interesting CFB season let’s just leave it at that for now. Thanks for visiting us.

First, I hope I see you roaming the sidelines at Bedlam down here in Stillwater this fall...
Second, do you think it's bad that it seems that Undertaker/Edge and Cena/Batista are both seemingly more interesting that either of the title matches? I just don't see the JBL/Punk angle getting people excited and Khali is just, well, boring...
Finally, what will it take to bring back good tag team wrestling? It killed me to see Cena and Batista win the titles. It's like the WWE is treating the Tag Team Titles with no respect. I know that tag teams in the past (glory days) relied on gimmicks, but can't we restore some of the glory of holding the tag gold? I think bring a few factions back might help this.

New site is great looking, well worth the wait. If I am not mistaken, didnt they do this same kind of tag title thing with Shawn and Cena? I think they had the titles right before WM 23, and ended up losing them before WM 23.
I think the more Punk wrestles guys like Regal and JBL, the more it will establish him as a real fighting champion. Cant hurt, what he could learn from those two.
Heard that Mick is on the way out of the WWE. Wonder who your new partner will end up being? Certainly could do worse than Tazz. Glad to hear business is going well.

I have to agree .. Smackdown is a far better product than the carp provided by RAW.
I'm a long-time WWF/WWE fan . from the good old days of having to hire videos here in Australia of Summerslam, Wrestlemania etc to finally getting PPV and now on cable.
Here's a breakdown of RAW from Monday. TImes may be out by up to 30-60 seconds eitherway as it was taped on my Austar Mystar recorder.

Thanks for another blog - I always enjoy reading them. I'd also like to say that for the past two or three years I've been more a Smackdown fan than RAW - I thought the blue team put on a much more traditional and better thought out wrestling product, with more ring action, wrestling based storylines and the building of characters and feuds over long periods. To now have you and Triple H on my favourite WWE programme is all the better! I'm delighted you are finding the switch the Smackdown favourable and I think you and Mick are doing a great job on the play by play.

I'm not suprised to read about the superstars who have been released but i thought it was unfortunate they had to get rid of Big Daddy V after all the years he has given. I remember when he came to the company as Men on a Mission.

I am enjoying SmackDown thoroughly but have a few issues with Raw. No offense to Michael Cole, but he isn't on the same level that you are on. That being said, the whole Batista/Cena thing seems a bit rushed to me. Given that this matchup hasn't occured before, and given how stacked the Summerslam card is, I think Batista/Cena should've been built up for a while and then culminated at Wrestlemania. The Hell in a Cell match is more than enough to carry the PPV and Batista/Cena is overkill in my opinion.
Hey JR! Great blog as always. One thing there, don't you think John Cena vs Batista would have been better until WrestleMania? I think keeping us without seeing these two clash and keeping it until WrestleMania would have been a little bit more exciting for us the fans. Now, the Kane angle didn't go as I expected. I was much dissapointed when Rey's mask came out. But oh well, lets see in what direction this goes.
BTW, I just moved from Honduras to Oklahoma City, and next week I'm moving to Norman, I start classes the 25th at OU as a freshman. I'll be living like 10 min away from your restaurant and I just wanted to know what days are you there. It would be a pleasure to meet you!

Like the new web site . Summerslam will be a hot ticket with the hell in a cell match . I think it will be to close to call, as Edge will pull out all the stops ,and so will the Undertaker. On the John Cena and Batista match I think it will go back and forth till Batista tires then Cena will win on a submission. Looking forward to buying more bar bq sauce in September. I am on disability and can only buy every other month. Good luck with your restuarants; hope to see one in Las Vegas as I know it would be a smash here.

Love the new site. Raw was pretty good. The tag title thing left me a little cold though. Mismatched partners winning the belts happens way too often.
Raw was pretty good this week, I think. The one angle that I was looking forward to the most was with Kane/Adamle. I can honestly say that I was pretty much swerved when Rey's mask came out of the bag. With his head tilting to the side last week like his old character, I was thinking that he'd return to the mask. WWE got me this time. Good job on them for that and now I'm curious about next week with Rey and Kane.
Looking forward to a Solid SS this weekend and to have you doing commentary on what looks like to me a legendary hell in a cell with edge and taker.
