Kansas City Here We Come! Friday's Big News is a Day Closer...RAW Thoughts.

Posted in:

Just some quick observations of Monday Night Raw before I hit the sack as I will be flying, courtesy of Southwest Airlines, Tuesday morning to Kansas City for Smackdown and Superstars business. I might even sample some of KC's famous "Q." The last time I was in KC, my Sooners were winning their 3rd consecutive Big 12 Championship at Arrowhead Stadium but that's another story for another time.

Before we start, this blog will likely be ripped a part because I earn a good portion of my living from WWE and I liked Raw for the most part. Let me assure you that no one at WWE asked me to write my observations nor do I seriously doubt if they care. With that said, if you choose to call me a shill then have at it but I require that you buy some BBQ Sauce or some Ketchup if you do.

I thought Freddie Prinze, Jr did an excellent job as the Guest Host of Raw and I'm sure that FPJ will be talking about the inverted backbreaker that he sustained for years to come with his Hollywood pals. Freddie is a true fan of which I respect. I wish I had gotten to know him better when he was on the creative team with WWE but we traveled different trails during  the hectic TV days when I would see him. Nonetheless,  FPJ is 2nd only to Shaq as my favorite Guest Host of Monday Night Raw.

Shaq is still "The Man." Well, Ric Flair is still "The Man" but you know what I mean. Naitch and I exchanged text messages today as he is going to join me in the Wahoo McDaniel interview that will be out this fall in a local OU publication.

Next week, the uber talented and charismatic Floyd "Money" Mayweather will look to steal the show in Money's home town of Las Vegas. Perhaps the SD team will produce our solitary, WWE Superstars bout in Vegas Monday night and yours truly can enjoy Raw in person. Hey, we got to visit Calgary for a few minutes before we enjoyed a lovely 3 hour drive to Edmonton.

BTW someone in the WWE Universe wrote some really ignorant remarks to my WWE.com blog that is posted every Thursday on the Smackdown page declaring that I was bitter, angry, etc for not being on Raw any longer and that was the reason that I "knocked" Raw..blah...blah...blah. Hey, buddy, I play for the SD team now. I got traded. I changed addresses. I am loyal to my "team." The MONEY IS THE SAME. Smackdown is a good show. Some fans even like SD better than Raw.  I did have some withdrawal issues when the abrupt changing of the guard occurred but I GOT OVER IT. I suggest that you do the same. Thanks and don't forget to tip your servers.

REMEMBER....THE MONEY IS THE SAME.

(Perhaps it isn't enough but it's the same.)

Yes....that was a blatant attempt to lobby for more cash on my next contract if that does indeed occur. I would tell you more if I had a 900# or a premium section of this site but I don't so.....

Summerslam is this Sunday on PPV. It's in LA. I just thought I would throw that in even though I don't know the complete card.  I don't have to as I get in for free.

I heard that WWE had over 300 rooms at various hotels in LA reserved which means that a bunch of corporate types will be doing some serious mingling in Los Angeles this weekend. I think it is called "networking."

Seriously, the WWE has major plans for the Summerslam weekend and it is the most ambitious Summerslam that I can remember. I am doing something "special" very early Sunday morning but I have been promised to secrecy.

Damn, I need a premium site. I can even smell the money.

I personally enjoyed the DX business Monday night. It was funny when it was supposed to be along with being dramatic and surprising. The match pitting DX vs. Orton/Rhodes at Summerslam now has much more significance. Legacy needed a night like they had in Saint Louie.

What match will close the show at Summerslam? Me thinks it will be John Cena challenging Randy Orton for the WWE Title. I'm smelling a Cena victory here but my predictions usually aren't wager worthy.

A job well done and a tip of the black hat for the St. Louis fans as they seemed to really enhance the broadcast Monday night.

No, Jerry Lawler's shirt that he wore on Raw was NOT from the Monique collection. The man that could be the next Mayor of Memphis, Tennessee happens to make a nice living on WWE TV wearing his T shirts of distinction. I may move to Memphis just so I can vote for The King.

Today I had an idea...don't laugh...I actually have them quite often. I wanted to try a BBQ'ed, Philly Cheese Steak Wrap so I went to our BBQ joint and had the kitchen prepare me one. Sliced brisket, grilled onions and red, bell peppers with melted Swiss cheese in a wrap and it was extraordinary especially when I drizzled some of our JR's Original BBQ Sauce on it. Wow. It's not even on the menu but it might become a lunch special.

We are contemplating starting an "early bird" menu to be in effect Monday-Wednesday evening for a specified period of time  featuring some super specials at a low, low price.

Yes-sir we promised you a great main event...I have shilled for WWE Raw AND hyped my BBQ products....all in one, short blog. The humanity of it all.

One last thing, a suggestion for Raw would be to have more, longer matches but I am "old school" which, like the American Buffalo, puts me on the endangered species list. Fewer matches that last longer would make me smile....almost....Bells palsy, remember?

BTW....one last, last thing....I think WWE should think of producing a Brock Lesnar DVD. Why wouldn't they? Lots of folks in the biz would love to comment on Brock and WWE has tons of footage including the early, early days of Brock's career in OVW in Louisville. I'm just saying.

Boomer Sooner!

If your early bird menu includes your new-found recipe, then it will surely be a hit considering that people are always in the look-out for something new and with a "sense of thrill".  hampers

 Mr Ross,

I'll never claim to be a wrestling "expert," despite being a fan for over ten years. But I'm just wondering...do you think WWE's interview segments/promos are too scripted these days?

You mentioned awhile back that you liked Ted DiBiase's (the Million Dollar Man, that is) work on Raw a few weeks ago, and that you preferred his work, as in having a few bullet points to touch on, and then just going out and working.

I'm in agreement with you on that. There's so much talk these days about wrestling needing new stars, and why more talent isn't "breaking out." I personally feel WWE is stunting the growth of it's own talent by essentially feeding them dialouge, instead of forcing them to be creative and come up with their own stuff.

To my knowledge, no one wrote Stone Cold's "Austin 3:16" line. The things The Rock and Mick Foley came up with were pure genius. I don't think I even need to touch on guys like Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes.

I'm not saying there isn't a place for creative teams and writers, but if you force guys like John Morrisson and Jack Swagger to fend for themselves on the microphone, then we might find out if they're TRULY superstar material.

Am I wrong, here? I'd love to hear your opinion, sir.

Rob

Hey JR, I was always curious as to what you thought of RVD as a performer. I always saw this odd hidden charisma that other wrestlers who would try to copy his style could never bring into their game as well. It'd be nice to see him back someday.

Also, what do you think Dana should do in regards to keeping Anderson Silva onboard? He made it sound like after his contract he's ready to leave, mainly for the Roy Jones Jr fight. It seems like a lose/lose, because if he stays on he doesn't want to fight Machida, and if he's on his way out, would you risk letting him beat some of your top guys and possibly go to a rival corporation afterward?

Hi. J.R

Do you really think that Cena vs Ortan will be the main event at summerslam because if it is so, it would be one hell of a boring match up. Why? Cena and Ortan has come a long way ever since Raw got new host. Every Mondays Raw is the same old, same old superstars that compete with each other and really I got to tell you, it is damn boring.

Jeff vs Punk (Tables, ladders, Chairs) that is main event quality. I wish Jeff all the luck for that match.

Rey vs Dolph once again would be another interesting bout, but thats just one mans opinion. I don't know if you know if the Great khali vs Kane at Summerslam will be another highlight of the night, these two, ever since their rivilry has brought chairs with them. It will be great to see a specialty match with Khali/kane.

I can't wait for Raw as Floyd is coming to host the show. I hope he gives Raw a huge Main event it will be great to see a desent Main event on Raw.

Thanks for your lovely BBQ which i did enjoy over the weekend and i hope to buy a full case next time

Hey, J.R. long-time fan, first time commenter. Since you addressed what match might close Summerslam, and since I love a good six-man tag team match (oh, and since there are a handful of deserving WWE superstars not on the show), what are the chances of a last-minute addition to Sunday's card, possibly an interpromotional six-man tag opener, with, oh, I don't know, Evan Bourne & John Morrison & Shelton Benjamin vs. The Miz (suspension be damned!) & Mike Knox & Sheamus? It would be great to showcase these guys on the second-biggest show of the year. Thoughts?

Hey J.R. from New Orleans!! Please don't put any thought into what other people are writing/talking about when it comes to this blog because the last time I checked it was called J.R.'S BLOG. Doing any additional worrying will put more gray hairs on your head than MINE! Seriously though, the wrap you described sounds delicious. The Brock Lesnar DVD in question was called "Here Comes The Pain" (thanks Tazz) and it came out around 2002 during the first year or two he was in the WWE. This shouldn't stop one from making another DVD about Brock because it's been done before. Take care J.R.and "don't worry be happy".

Don't worry about whatever the fan said JR (I know you won't), but SmackDown is a hell of a lot better than Raw right now.

 Hi JR,

Do you know what happened in the Divas Championship Match on Raw? There were several mistakes and I don't know why.

Mickie James and Gail Kim are the best divas but last night......

JR I love your sense of humor and ability to take others negativity in stride. As always I appreciate your thoughts on the shows.  You can shill to me any time. *winks*

May have to go order some of that chipotle ketchup. Hey if it's good enough to have the Edge seal of approval it's gotta be a Superstar. ;)

Here's a tip of the Hat from Denver,

Maggie

Hey JR, i believe WWE has already produced a Brock Lesnar dvd, it was a few years ago. I'm not sure how detailed it was because i did'nt buy it. I guess it would'nt hurt to make another one with more on it.

great blog in i do agree with you on raw it does need to have longer matches in im looking foward to summerslam in think dx really need to put over legacy because a win over dx can really make them stars in i also think that john cena vs randy orton is gonna be the main event at summerslam only because on the summerslam microsite that match appears as the main event but all in its gonna be a great ppv. ps i agree with i think u should create a premuim section

Dang!  That Philly Cheese Steak Wrap sounds good.  If I am ever down your way I want one.  I'll even come hungry and get one of everything on the menu.  Maybe even take a weeks vacation and eat ever there every day.
