Lesser Sauce, Better Meat.. William Regal.. Bobby Jaggers.. Undercooked Burgers.. Are Barbed Wire Matches History??..

Interesting week friends and neighbors. I left our home in Norman at 5 a.m. Monday morning to catch a 7 a.m. flight to State College via Cincinnati that was supposed to arrive in Happy Valley around 11 a.m. Unfortunately due to severe thunderstorms in OKC I ended up not arriving in State College to broadcast Monday Night Raw until 5 p.m Monday. This put me at the arena at 6 which was 13 hours after I left our home for the airport. Not a good travel day which makes for a challenging night. Then, after a 19 hour day, I get approximately 4 hours of sleep and catch a 6 something flight Tuesday morning for Oklahoma. I get to Cincy and we have to deplane because of mechanical issues with the aircraft then change planes and I get home 3 hours later than I had scheduled on Tuesday. All in all not a great travel week for yours truly although I got to where I was scheduled to be, albeit later than planned, safe and sound so perhaps it wasn’t so bad after all. Business travel is about as unglamorous as one can imagine but it simply goes with the territory. One would think after all these years I would be “used to it” but I am not sure one ever really does. I have perfected the art of sleeping on a plane so going to sleep in a sitting position is a piece of cake. I practice this technique at home every chance I get. There is lots of discussion about the number of injuries currently plaguing the WWE. Simply put, my philosophy on that matter is this, there is never a good time for any one to get injured but injuries create opportunities for healthy bodies. That may sound morbid but it is true. Any time a top star gets put on the shelf it creates a window of opportunity for someone who is “waiting for their break”. I could easily see new and deserving individuals get their number called and then it will be up to them to make a difference when they “get in the game”. The old song and dance about wrestlers being “held back” is usually a crock especially in today’s marketplace. If a talent is truly special from bell to bell, there is no holding nothing back. One can only pull a Tony Soprano and “poor me” so often. Here’s some feedback to a few of your latest comments: Stevie- I enjoyed Mick Foley’s “Hardcore Diaries” but one has to be honest when comparing it to Mick’s first two wrestling books. As a matter of fact Mick’s first book set such a high standard that it will be challenging to ever exceed it. With the WWE roster in a tough spot due to the number of injuries, is now a good time for Foley to return to the ring? Stevie, I have no idea if Jakks is planning a new J.R. action figure (now that’s an oxymoron as it relates to yours truly) but if they do I will mention it here on the site. Sinistergrym-Nice screen name. I can’t even say it. Nonetheless the deal with Bar-B-Q is this, lesser sauce and better meat is a better combination than better sauce and lesser meat. Great sauce can’t salvage lousy meat most of the time. Dry chicken can often times be taken off life support with great sauce but that’s the exception and not the rule. Lee- I don’t think William Regal’s nationality has zilch to do with where the talented Regal is on the cards. Regal not being American is not a factor whatsoever in his role on Smackdown in my view. Regal is a great talker and can wrestle with anyone of any skill level which is a fleeting art form. Nailsdude- Do I remember Bobby Jaggers? Absolutely. Bobby was from Kansas as I recall and was an underrated wrestler who was better than average on the mic and a solid hand in the ring. I don’t know exactly why Jaggers never hit the big time back in the day but it may have been because he did not do any thing to distinguish himself in the ring that would set him a part from the pack. In the 70’s-80’s Jaggers was a solid, mid card talent who could work main events if put in the right position, usually as an antagonist, but in today’s marketplace Jaggers would be hard pressed to not see more main event action. Bobby was also, as my Granny would say somewhat “windy” meaning he liked to embellish stories and was a great B.S.’er on roadtrips. Jaggers was a colorful character who should have been a bigger star than he was. Matt- I am not sure exactly why your burgers ended up being undercooked but leaving the lid open should not have been the culprit if you cooked the product long enough at the proper temp. I always cook with the lid shut because I use the smoke to flavor the meats, etc and to not just make the neighborhood smell good. Steve- I believe for the long term future of the business that the creation of several training camps/developmental territories is imperative. Again, without the wrestling territories of yesteryear a company has to find, sign and train their stars of tomorrow. This is a long process that is not an exact science because every potential wrestler is different. Yes, Booker T has a place in Houston that might be a possible developmental area of the future. Time will tell but the bottom line is that a company needs 200 or more athletes training at any one time in multiple systems. If 2-4 main event level stars could be developed annually then over time the roster will create depth which is an issue in my opinion. Getting two legit main event level talents out of a “class” of 100 actually isn’t bad. Thorsten- My view on “barbed wire matches” is that they should be used only sparingly as in no more than once a year, if that. The more they are utilized the more overexposed they become plus they are extremely dangerous and the overexposure of blood is an issue as well. Tenechia- I have heard no rumors about Shawn Michaels retiring any time soon. HBK seems to be as good if not better than any one in the biz right now and he seems to be having fun. That’s notwithstanding Monday night but no one I know would enjoy being choke slammed through a wooden table by a 7’3” 420 pound human. Michaels wrestles because he loves his craft/vocation not that he isn’t making major bucks. HBK already has major bucks but one can’t put a dollar value on Michael’s passion and the future Hall of Famer, who is definitely a changed man from a generation ago, will, in my opinion, continue to wrestle until either his “fire” is extinguished or his body says it is time to go home for good. E.J.- I think too much has been made about John Cena’s spinner title belt. Much to do about nothing. It doesn’t bother me and I am as old school as one can get. Yes, it is different but that doesn’t necessarily make it a negative. If only one championship belt design was established over the generations as “the belt” I might sing a different song but thru the years several promotions have used a variety of title belt designs successfully. The overall biz has bigger fish to fry than to fixate on the design of the spinner title belt or any other championship belt. For example, OU has won 7 national titles in football and all 7 championship rings are different including the 1974 version I wear every day. Nick- Who should be Ric Flair’s last ever opponent? That’s a hard one. For me I might suggest Ricky Steamboat. Edge wouldn’t be a bad choice and neither would HBK or HHH. However, I don’t think we are on the verge of seeing that “last match” for the record. Robbie- Yes, the Sheepherders vs. The Fantastics Barbed Wire matches in the Mid South/UWF were bloodbaths and were certainly not for all members of the family. They had their place and the four men did a helluva job inside the barbed wire but that era is history. As I mentioned earlier, the days of being “hardcore” 7 days a week are over. Society in general will not buy blood bathes for the sake of seeing same. Regarding your other question, there was never a time when a merger was ever considered between Mid South and World Class Wrestling at least that I am aware. It would have never worked because Bill Watts would have wanted to run the show and so would Fritz Von Erich. These two domineering alpha males could not have coexisted over the long haul but the talent depth the merger would have created would have been exciting with which to work. As I have said in the past about the chance of a wrestler’s union ever being created…..not in my lifetime and highly unlikely ever. A mass gathering of wrestlers could not even agree on what to have for lunch much less put their future in the hands of one of their peers. Frank- Good suggestion about perhaps doing a FAQ regarding your favorite Bar-B-Q spots. Thanks to you I will try General’s BBQ in Kent, Washington some day. We are getting a great deal of positive feedback and ideas from you all and they are appreciated. Woody- Hello in Baghdad! Thanks for touching base with us here in Oklahoma. I am thrilled you checked in and that you enjoyed the Cena-HBK match from London of a few weeks ago. It was no doubt one of the best matches we have featured in over 700 episodes of Monday Night Raw. On a personal note, the greatest heroes on Earth are the soldiers who are in your neck of the woods fighting terrorism. Hopefully this damn war can be won and these men and women can come home to their families. In the meantime, be well and thanks for keeping us safe from the extremists who seemingly would just as soon die than live in peace and harmony. By the way, we just shipped some Jerky to some soldiers in Baghdad and I am waiting to see how that plays out and if it gets delivered. If so I can’t see why the Jerky could not be shipped every where around the world. Thanks again Woody and I hope you keep in touch with us. Yogita- I can’t speak to what is a better venue, the one in Wales or the new Wembley Stadium, or which one would be a better locale for a major WWE pay-per-view. I am sure both venues would be excellent. Perhaps some day they will be put to the test but please don’t ask me when because I have no idea. Just trust me when I say that I truly believe it will happen some day…..a big time WWE PPV in the UK in a stadium. Dean- Do King and J.R. ever argue? Of course. Friends and family all argue at times and usually over the most ridiculous of reasons such as what to watch to TV or what to eat, etc. Stupid stuff and we are no different. Usually it is about sports or food or who sang a certain song. Nothng too heavy like world peace or global warning. Occasionally we will have spirted discussions about women, one of the King’s favorite subjects, but I will wisely not go into those details at this time. Jeff- To be honest with you I am not overwhelmed about Oklahoma naming the watermelon as the official state vegetable. And I love eating cold watermelon so go figure. I drove by our restaurant location today and the construction guys are getting after it with our mid June opening still our goal. I have to admit I could have easily said “Oh, what a rush” when I drove by and saw how things had changed just in the past few days. We also have a better than average chance of getting our Jerky into several more convenience stores and I may have more, exciting details on that matter sooner than later. I fully expect to see Ric Flair back on Raw next week from “Flair Country” in Hampton, Virginia which looks like it will sell out for Monday Night Raw. Ric was in Vegas on a personal appearance for the WWE Monday night and did not make it to Happy Valley. Come to think of it I did not see JoePa either. Perhaps the legendary coach was hanging with “The Naitch” in Vegas?! I didn’t think so either. Thanks for all your business and please keep sampling that Jerky. I never leave home with out it on these road trips. We also appreciate all your suggestions. There is no such thing as a bad idea. More of your comments will be addressed soon. J.R.

Hi JR So. Is there any possibilty that we will ever see Monty Sopp and Brian James in the WWE again?

When will the WWE release a Dean Malenko DVD, the guy is a legend when it comes to ring work. I put him up there with the greats like Ric Flair, Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero. He has had some memorable matches (see Hogs Wild 96' against Benoit) and most definitely deserves to have his talents, shown on DVD to those who didn't have the chance to see some of his impressive displays in the ring.

Hi JR Have you ever visited South Africa And if yes have you tasted our version of the barbq its called a 'braai'. I wish i lives in the U.S then i could sample some of your juicy steaks. chow

JR, I'm from Sydney Australia and have been a wrestling fan all my life. There is one question that has been plagueing me for quite a while and hopefully you can shed some light on it. Why does HBK constantly get overlooked as the Champion? In the last 5 years or so he has probably been in more main events than anyone else, and he hasn't won the title other than the Elimination Chamber which was when he first came back. Anyone else who is in that many main events over that period of time usually wins the title at least once. He is still one of the main players and one of the main atractions on the roster. Age doesn't seem to be effecting him as he has more moves than anyone and still knows how to get the crowd into a match. He is probably the first wrestler since Hulk Hogan that I have seen that still gets cheered when he is the bad guy. A good example is when he fought with Hogan, he went from good to bad and back to good in the span of about 2 weeks. Not many wrestlers can do that. He continually puts his body on the line with high risk moves. He is always on Raw and he wrestles more than most of the wrestlers on the show. He is a certain Hall of famer but in his extremely long career I find it hard to think that he has only been the champion 3 or 4 times when he should be up there with Triple H around the 8,9,10 mark. I finally thought Wrestlemania was going to be his time with the way they built his character up at the Royal Rumble but again he lost to John Cena. Whats the story? Any input you have would be greatly appreciated. And by the way, and you and the King are easily the best announcing pair the WWE has ever had, closely followed by Gorilla Monsoon and Jessy the Body. Cheers

JR, are they going to start selling your sauce etc at live events?

Hey, J.R. I love your "Skittles" routine, and you should keep it up(maybe scream fruity four times and a little louder like you used to). However, I have noticed that often preceding or following the skittles image on the screen is Burger King. You should suggest to the good ol' King, Jerry Lawler, maybe even during commercial break, that he should do something similar with Burger King, you know one of those improvised falsetto royal rants the King is known for. It would be something like this: "...and by Burger King, who reminds you to have it your way. Hey, look at that! I'm the King too, J.R.! I like having it my way, too! Wooo!" Of course, I can never do those rants justice, but could you just suggest it to him and see if he agrees that it would be funny? Thank you, and keep up the great announcing. You are one of the best of all time in any sport (or sports-entertainment). Also, where did the "Alejandro" of "Arrrrmando, Alejandrrro, Estrrrrada, haha!" go? I've noticed that the announcers also only refer to him as Armando Estrada, and he never does his introduction anymore. I have heard that this is because it makes him face, since everybody loves it, but Mr. Kennedy does his introduction, and he is a heel. Were you told not to say "Alejandro", and why is this?

RE: U.K. stadium PPV: I know you're not organising it, but tell the guys who are to use Wembley when it happens. The largest people-to- toilet ratio of any building in the world, 90,000 capacity (I think Millenium Stadium in Wales only holds between 70,000 - 80,000), and more modern. You could easily get 90,000 people for a Wrestlemania. Quick question - what do you think is the most brutal WWE match you ever saw. Also which do you think is the most dangerous match type?

Hi there J.R. Love the blog,I was wondering if there is ever a possibility of a tv taping taking place in Ireland? It is the spiritual home of the McMahon family after all :) Best Wishes Paul O'Shaughnessy,Limerick,Ireland.

Hey JR, I've got a good question. As you know. WWE Home Video has released all the Wrestlemania's and recently all the Royal Rumbles on DVD. Do you think they'll do the same thing with Summerslam and Survivor Series?

hello jr? i really hope vince mcmahon plans something special for wrestlemania 25! i know its a couple years away but it will be half way to wrestlemaia 50 something some of us might not be here to see. imagine stone cold could come back for one last match & face hulk hogan!! i have read they have personal differences but wouldnt it be a great celebration for themselves? a cellebration of their careers-all that attention & if vince mcmahon hyped the event enough it would be surely be good for his pocket! imagine these wrestlemania 25 matches-stone cold V hulk hogan the rock V john cena brock lesnar V batista undertaker V chris jericho bret hart V vince macho man V ric flair!!!! if only everyone could put their differences aside & have all the best wrestlers in the top company the way it should be

J.R., Do you BBQ using charcoal or gas?

I loved the cookbooks y'all bought out a while ago.. Any plans to release anymore cookbooks?

JR, I've been reading about a new "dress code" for the diva's. One that makes them more classy and showing less skin. I don't believe everything I read but I'm still curious. Is there any validity to this claim? If so I believe it to be a bad move. Skip Louisville, KY

Hello from the UK JR Just a nice and simple question, and hat is why do u think there are so many John Cena haters out there??? Its gret for the business to have someone both loved ad hated so much that he is a constant debate, but whyis he on the tip of evryones tongue?

Hey J.R., I'm from New Hampshire and go to all WWE events that come around this area. I love going to see events at the Garden in Boston, usually there is guite a crazy crowd! Anyways, I was just wondering what some of your favorite places are when you travel?

Life as a business traveler isn't exciting? Are you kidding? Maybe we are hanging out in different airports, hotels and lounges. I've met tons of women, made new professional contacts and gotten buzzed on overpriced drinks many times on business travels. Much of it at the company's expense. And yes, I hope my boss isn't reading this. He'd probably, in the words of Vinnie Mac, say "YOU'RE FIIIIIRED!" In all seriousness, do WWE Superstars have the same headaches as non-famous travelers dealing with airlines and TSA or do they get a pass because they are famous? Does WWE pay to fly it's employees from show to show or is it their responsibility to get to the towns? If so, is it business class? Do some performers fly coach just to save money? There has been a lot of "insider" stories/rumors about the way travel is facilitated in the business. Maybe you can clear it up by providing some accurate info about this aspect of the industry.

Hey JR, We're HUGE Undertaker fans in my house and everyone is totally bummed out about his injury. He's been so healthy for so long and now this. Of all the rotten luck and timing. I'm most upset because he is easily one of the, if not THE most over guy in the company with fans right now and was really looking like a great champion. It would have been an awesome title reign. My question to you is now that Taker's getting older (I'm sure he's not going to retire from this) do you think this will be his last title run? I just know he'll come back after he's healthy again, but I have strong doubts he'll want to take the title again. With all of the great things to be said for Taker's career and everything he'll be remembered for, do you think it's also part of his legacy that he's never really had a big title run? It almost seems to cement his status as being "above the belt."

Do you know who is publishing Dibiase's next book. I am jazzed that you are writing the foreward. I read Doc's book and it was nice that you contriibuted. Regarding the Mid South guys do you keep in touch with any of them? Guys like Cowboy, Doc, Duggan, Dibiase, Taylor, Reed, rnr express, and Fantastics. Does you schedule allow you the time/opportunity to stay in touch? Two and a half months until two a days. Boomer Sooner.

JR. What do you think about this??? How about a 11 Man Battle Royal for Ric Flair's final match. Have Ric Flair, Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Macho Man, Hogan???,Cowboy Bob Orton, Chris Benoit, The King Jerry Lawler, and Harley Race. Wait a minute.... Do a 10 Man Battle Royal. Same Match only without Hogan. Also have Eugene as the special referee. Could bring out the old time wrastling fans!

Hey there JR, I was just wondering, are we starting to see the end of Victoria? It pains me to say this as she is my favourite female performer of all time. But with her character clearly not going anywhere, certainly not towards to the title, and her losing now on a weekly basis I can't help but wonder how much longer she will remain happy with this current siuation. She is without a doubt the most talented female on the roster yet she is not getting te attention that he deserves. It's great that she has had a hand in training Candice, who has certainly come a long way in terms of wrestling ability, but it just seems that she cannot ctach a break. I am liking the tag pairing of Melina and Victoria but how much further can this partnership go? JR, do you see Victoria capturing the title again anytime soon? Thanks, love your work.

What do you think of TIny 'Zeus' Lister returning to the ring to have a quick feud with Batista? I think it would help get Batista more over, and even though it wouldn't be the most technical match, it would be fun. The WWE can show footage of his beatdowns on Hogan and Brutus "The Beancake" and put him over as the Human Wrecking Machine. The man is still in great shape and looks not much different than he did in 1988.

Jim - Do you see Ric Flair getting one more run with the title? I would really like to see everyone's hero, "The Naitch", raising a title over his head one more time. It would have that same great feeling of Rocky Balboa's victory in Rocky 6 (in the alternate ending) as well as George Foreman's huge comeback win. Just to see that the man who helped build the business's foundation can still topple over today's stars would be fun and invigorating.

I would like to see more Ric Flair merchandise as well. All you hear at live events is "Wooooo!" He should have a couple of shirts available. I did pick up the new Horsemen shirt which was only available packaged with the DVD however.

Hey JR, cheers for answering my last post. However, when I look at guys like Regal, Davey Boy Smith, Dynamite Kid etc, I see wrestlers more technically gifted than Hogan, Cena and Batista. And yet, it's the latter superstars that have held world titles. Is there no link whatsoever? Do you think a Brit will ever hold that elusive title? PS. Why is Paul Burchill not being used more? Cheers again, Lee

Hey J.R. I was wondering, what would be your advice on how to make awesome hotdogs/hamburgs on the BBQ? I have started recently & I realize you know a thing or two about BBQing. Any tips. helpful hints would be greatly appreciated! Thanks In Advance, Norm Rumak

Hey JR! I really enjoyed the blog! Here is my suggestion for a t-shirt: On the Front of the shirt it says "CARNAGE" and bar-BQ sauce is spilling out of the bottle all over the place! Then on the back it says JR's BarBQ with a picture of your face. What do you think?

Wanted to give my two cents about people wanting to see Flair vs. Steamboat one more time--I'm not one of them. I'd prefer for the two of them to be "frozen in time" and not try to live up to what they did twenty years ago. I know Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat are consumate professionals and would put a lot of pressure on themselves to not disappoint the fans.

JR- You seem to know an awful lot about meat, so I thought I'd ask you what your thoughts are on the quality of meat produced from different breeds of cattle. I raise Angus-cross cattle, as I have a predominantly Hereford cow herd but using an Angus bull gets me "black baldy" (black with a white face) calves. These calves qualify for certified Angus beef and for Angussource, as their daddy is a registered Angus. It's my contention that the whole certified Angus beef deal is simply a brilliant marketing plan which capitalizes on the ignorance of the Americn consumer, as in my opinion the way a calf is fed (Full blast on the corn, just enough hay to scratch his belly is best) has much more to do with the quality of meat he produces than the breed he is does. What do you think?

JR, I don't know if you remember him or not but a local wrestler from St.Joseph,MO named Sonny Myers passed away last week. He wrestled mostly in the 50's and 60's. He was a great "good guy" wreslter and Mr.Harley Race had some kind words for Sonny Myers. Just wanted to let you know.....

J.R., Which do you prefer when cooking Bar-BQ. Do you like to use Charcoal or Propane? What are your favorite accessories to use when preparing Bar B-Q?

Do you think that Mr. Kennedy in any way resembles The Rock and could he be the next Rock?

Great blog JR! - The Missus and I have decided on coming through your neck of the woods for some good ol' BBQ come around July. We'll be hitting the coffee museum in St. Louis(her idea), and the Restaurant in Norman, OK(my idea). We're also looking into getting a St. Bernard puppy... we plan on naming him "Bruiser", after Frank Goodish. Thanks, Reverend Funk

My own distaste for Cena's "spinner belt" doesn't stem from the fact that it is really silly-looking... it stems from the fact that it's the first time I can remember in WWF/E history when a title belt was so clearly and demonstrably the "property" of one man. Nobody else on the roster would have any reason to want to wear such a ridiculous belt.... and yet, for the two Proverbial Cups of Coffee Edge had with the WWE Title since the bling belt was introduced, he kept the spinner, and pretty much telegraphed to fans that "Hey, this title's just going back to Cena in less than two months, so no use changing back to a real belt" (contrary to past belt modifications such, where the title would revert back to "normal" when somebody new won it). *THAT* is what annoys me to no end, and gets under my skin significantly more than the mere cosmetic appearance of the thing.

JR, To add to an earlier question by "Adrian from Bristol UK"... Do you dislike Hulk Hogan?

J.R.-once again thanks for your "blog"!!! Any chance of pictures being posted here so us fans can see what is going on with your new venture??? Thanks,Mikey in Pawtucket,R.I.

I just got the Brian Pillman dvd and was thrilled I only knew Brian as the "loose cannon" and hated the gimmick,BUT seeing his old stuff he was truly a gifted wrestler and ahead of his time in many ways and a shame he died so young. I was wondering how you felt about Candice Michele I may be on a limb here but I have to say Candice is the most improved diva of 2007

One has to wonder why Oklahoma would name a fruit as the state vegetable. Yes the Watermelon is a fruit not a vegetable. When I was in Jr. High, my science teacher said that if it came from a flower it is a fruit. If it is the stalk, root, or leaf, it is a vegetable.

hey JR, great blog yet again this week. glad you got home safely even if there were a few issues with travel :)) I was wondering if you ever have time to watch the Simpsons. I live in scotland and we don't get wwe 24/7 or wwe films here yet which sucks when do you reckon (if ever) that will happen? can't wait for the next blog! Clare Boyle Ayrshire (near Glasgow) Scotland

Has Marty Jannetty blown his last chance with WWE? I grew up watching him and Shawn on ESPN at 4 o'clock every day in the mid-1980s AWA and would love to see the Rockers again. But then, I also grew up as a huge Billy Jack Haynes mark (saw him in a chain match vs. Hercules in 1987), so my wrestling tastes are somewhat out of the mainstream.

I was wondering if your Bar-B-Q sauce is made with meat or animal products? I am a vegetarian but would love to be able to use your sauce in my every-day cooking. And by that same token, will you ever produce vegetarian jerkey (I know, its blasphemy, right?)? I've had some that were very tasty and some that were like wet cardboard. Thank you.

What are your views of the promoter (in this case, Vince McMahon) being a part of the storylines in the WWE. In his DVD, Vince said that his dad, Vince Sr., always told him that the promoter should never be involved in the product, but Vince has pulled it off quite nicely making himself a monster heel. The people wanted him as a heel in 1997, and he gave it to them. Eric Bischoff did the same thing in WCW around the same time by joining the NWO. Not to mention the entire McMahon family being regulary involved in storylines. I was wondering your thoughts on managment being involved in the product?

Hey J.R. I just wanted to mention how great it was to hear that Matt Capotelli's surgery went well. He is such a strong person to always keep high hopes and hopefully the worst of things are behind him, maybe we'll see him in the WWE soon.

Good choice on Steamboat for Flair's last opponent. I would lean toward Macho Man due to the incredible feud around Summerslam 92/Wrestlemania 8 however. Ohh yeaaaaahhh.

Hey Jr. I was wondering if OJ simpson walked into your resturant would you serve him or tell him to leave like fellow cincinnatian jeff ruby did at the kentucky derby. I think Jeff Ruby is 100 percent correct in not serving OJ.

JR, Long time reader and fan here. You say that in today's market place, if a talent is truly special nothing will hold them back. You then say that William Regal is a "great talker" and someone who "can wrestle with anyone of any skill level". Aren't these two statements contradictory? If there is nothing to hold skilful wrestlers back, how can a guy like Regal, who you admit is talented and a great talker, spend year after year in low-key bottom-half-of-the-card feuds? He rarely even gets to appear on PPV despite the fact he is undoubtedly capable of holding his own against any opponent.

I know and believe that Ric Flair's last opponent should be Ricky Steamboat, provided Ricky would do this for him. They have incredible chemistry and some of the greatest matches ever seen. I've watched wrestling for almost 30yrs now, and I've seen it all. Hard to top those guys. If Ricky wasn't available then HHH, HBK, Benoit or Edge would work very well. Ric should be able to go out how he wants and with a bang. We are talking about probably the greatest ever and he should be inducted into the HOF immediately.

Hi JR, A nonwrestling question. As someone who has had difficulty sleeping on planes for several years, I was wondering if you could tell me what your sleeping technique is. I once flew to Singapore and barely slept for the 20 hour flight. I've enjoyed listening to you on Raw for several years. Thanks

So,Jr, you happen to think that society will not warm up to hardcore or extreme? You think that maybe the fans aren't as crazy for a little violence? We won't know because th WWE is scared to do whatPaul Heyman did.I guarantee you that the WWE ratings would go up if more thumbtacks were used.Or if for the first time barbwire was used.Expecting plain old matches from Raw or Smackdown is normal but when you see the letters ECW you expect to see bloody mayhem.

In response to Ben's comment... "I don’t know if Flair’s last match will be in my lifetime, but I’m sure it’ll be a great one, regardless of his age." Are you kidding me? It will be a chop-fest with Flair going through the same motions he has gone through for year. Every match of his is the same…500 chops, two backdrops, and throw in a chop-block and strut…you have your Ric Flair match. I have to give it up for JR, whose words make Flair look 1000 times better than our own eyes tell us. Ric Flair WAS a great in-ring worker. One of the best. But no more. His matches are horrible and I cannot believe the WWE lets him go to the ring looking like that. It's not believable that a saggy old grandpa could go toe-to-toe with a guy 1/4 of his age. Ric Flair is going to be remembered for the wrong reasons. Retire from the ring, Ric. Please!

JR, I have recently seen some old matches on youtube, and for the first time, been able to see greats from the past in action. I was particularly impressed with Lou Thesz and Dory Funk Jr. The variety of holds and fluidity of movement by these two greats was particularly impressive and did indeed seem to elevate the actvity of pro wrestling into an art form. Some of the other greats from the past did not seem to be as impressive as legend might have suggested (I won't name names). Can you suggest any other great names from the past whose in-ring acumen was on a par with Thesz and D. Funk. Thank You
