I just flew over the English Channel and Lord are my arms tired!! (rim shot)
Coach Bruce Harrell- Best of luck to the Maud Tigers football team. Championships are often won in the off season and I am sure your players are working hard as we speak. Without the hard work and commitment to excellence there can be no glory in what ever any of us do. I hope to see you some day at J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q in Norman. We open in June. Come see us!
Simon/UK- I have zero issues with Chris Kanyon. Never had. I was told he made some remarks about me last year but I addressed them here and moved on. Chris had talent and his sexual preference was never an issue with me. I never asked him about his private life. If anyone thinks the fact that Chris is gay cost him his career in the WWE, they are sadly mistaken. Yes, I have made light hearted remarks about my friend Pat Patterson, but they were not mean spirited and Pat knows how much I respect him. With today’s top-line talent depth so shallow, I can assure you that if a gay individual was talented enough to sell tickets, their sexual orientation would not hold them back. No one who matters cares about sexual orientation these days, as best as I can tell. A generation or two ago, I could not say that within the business.
Paul- J.C. Watts is a political consultant and public speaker after serving a stint in the United States Congress. The former Sooner QB who wore #1 was a superb wishbone quarterback and a former Eufaula Ironhead.
Marty- I have not seen Vladamir at ringside in a good while, but he used to be a fixture on the front row at WWE events. I don’t know how he scored so many primo seats, but he did. Perhaps he has Polaroid’s of someone who worked in ticketing.
David- My two bouts of Bells palsy certainly changed my life in a variety of ways. There were the physical side affects of having the ailment, espec Maud Tigers.. So You’re Gay, Who Cares?.. J.C. Watts.. Vladamir at Ringside.. Bell’s palsy Reflections.. Bob Stoops.. Tim McClelland.. Brad Nessler.. Austin/Kennedy. ially having it on both sides of my face, of having to essentially learn to talk and enunciate again, but also the mental issues that came along with it. I lost confidence in myself and I had to snap out of it and get back in the game. I had to quit saying “Poor me” to myself and get my swagger back, if you will. I will always say that having Bell’s palsy made me a stronger individual and certainly made me appreciate the many blessings and opportunities I have in my life. My wife Jan was a wonderful partner thru these troubling times and without her I probably would have taken my cash and gone home and started another career, probably in radio. The King always said “J.R.’s got a face made for radio.” Rebounding from Bell’s palsy and getting my chair back at ringside on Monday Night Raw was no small feat, but would never have happened if the WWE did not believe in my work and more importantly that I believed in my work. Any of us can do whatever we choose in life if we simply refuse to take no for an answer and to accept failure. My Daddy didn’t raise a quitter.
Sooner Pal- I would have loved for Coach Bob Stoops to have been able to attend the WWE Hall of Fame, but the Sooners were in the midst of Spring Football practice at the same time. I did have a beverage with the head coach and many on his staff, including my neighbor and one of my best friends OU offensive Coordinator Kevin Wilson, a proud alum of Maiden, N.C. High School. However, there was really only one guy to induct me, and he did. I did get phone calls from Coach Mike Stoops from Arizona, Brad Nessler of ABC, and major league umpire Tim McClelland among others, the days leading into the HOF. Not to mention a wonderful telephone call from Trish Stratus the day of the ceremony that was heart warming. Christian and Chris Jericho also paid their respects. It was a great experience that I am still not sure I deserved.
Jesse Lee- As best I know, Steve Austin is high on Mr. Kennedy and has expressed to me that he thinks Kennedy has the tools to be special. I agree. Time will tell for the new “Mr. Money in the Bank”, but I expect Kennedy to be headlining major PPV’s if he continues to evolve.
Kevin- Shane McMahon is a 4th generation wrestling personality, as his great grandfather, Jess McMahon, was one of the most prominent promoters in the USA beginning in the 1930’s or so in New York City where he promoted boxing and wrestling.
