The Sunday after attending the OU-A&M game down in College Station, I flew from Chicago O’Hare to Manchester, England for the WWE to tape two broadcasts of Friday Night Smackdown. Before leaving Norman, I bought every, different Sunday newspaper I could buy and I purposely did not break into my reading stash until I boarded my 8 hour or so flight. more »

A road game in the Big 12 Conference, to quote the Eagles, does not give me a “Peaceful Easy Feeling”, especially at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas in the Texas A&M Aggies last home game of 2008. more »

It’s not the “Game of the Century” but make no mistake about it the Oklahoma-Nebraska game in Norman Saturday night is extremely important because it’s the “next game” and, for the Sooners, winning the “next game” is imperative to be able to continue to travel the rocky roads to the Promised Land.

Can OU still contend for a National Title this season? Of course they can but it’s an obviously huge challenge and a long shot. But so were the Tampa Bay Rays making it to the World Series.
Bottom line is…..win the “next game.” more »

After an impressive victory over an offensively talented and well coached Kansas team last week in the friendly confines of the Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium, the Oklahoma Sooners travel north to play the Kansas State Wildcats in Manhattan in what some pundits feel is the proverbial “trap game” for OU.

One can certainly ask the question after playing the likes of TCU, Texas, and KU in three of the past four weeks are the Sooners due to mentally have an “off day?” Will last year’s road woes return and become problematic for Stoops’ Troops? more »

I don’t know about you but I am over the second guessing, the “poor us” inferences, conjecture about “bad officiating” and all the other fallout from the Cotton Bowl that has been analyzed more in these parts than Obama-McCain this week after the Sooners’ loss to Texas last Saturday before the largest crowd to ever see the greatest rivalry in college football.

As the old expression goes, “one can’t grieve forever.”  Just in case some Sooner fans have been too focused on who replaces Ryan Reynolds at middle linebacker, how to “fix” the Sooner running game, is Sam Bradford the leading candidate to win the Heisman Trophy, and what’s it going to take to improve the OU special teams, let me gently remind everyone that the Sooners can still get to the Promised Land and the concept for doing so is simplistic.

It’s that time of the year again, the 2nd Saturday in October, when the 103rd Annual Red River Rivalry kicks off in the newly enlarged Cotton Bowl in Dallas as Oklahoma faces Texas in the marquis college football game of the week.  

WWE Hall of Fame broadcaster, Jim Ross, will appear on ESPN's College Football Live this Friday at 3:30/2:30 Central. J.R. will discuss the upcoming Oklahoma-Texas Red River Rivalry college football show down this Saturday in the Cotton Bowl. more »

Some of my friends who live outside Oklahoma, many on the east coast, have asked how I can seemingly have, as the Eagles have sung for years a “Peaceful Easy Feeling”  about the Oklahoma Sooners being ranked as the #1 college football team in the nation.

They remind me to look at what happened to all the #1’s who lost games that they were not predicted to lose last year. As recently as just last week, the top ten was turned upside down. more »

Hopefully the great fans of Oklahoma will remember the term “home field advantage” and be prepared to make a difference. I assure you that the players feed off that sort of thing much more than perhaps many fans think.
