One More Thing... Feedback Needed for Proposed Book Idea

Posted in:

Another thing that I would like feedback on is this.....IF I decided to take a selection of some of the blogs, there have been tons of them since we started this site, and the most unique Q&A's we have received and answered, would there be a market for them in paperback book form sold exclusively on this site and in J.R.'s Family BBQ in Norman?

This would be a paperback book with some personal photos of my 30+ years in the business and would allow fans to read some hand picked blogs on a variety of subjects. Plus, we would select a large grouping of questions and comments sent to our site that would, hopefully, be both entertaining and informative.

I see this proposed book selling for under for $10 and I could even autograph them if that added value. This would NOT be a J.R.'s "official" biography which would be a much more extensive project and would come at a later date IF I decide to author such.

If you have any thoughts yeah or nay on this matter please send us your feedback and suggestions. Thanks.

J.R.

Thats a good idea JR but to be honest for me, and im sure many other people would be looking forward to buying your long awaited autobiography a lot more!

That would be great. This reminded me of the print on demand service that amazon offers.  Now that I'm looking at it again, it seems to have changed just a bit. Info is www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_navbox_lnpub_odp if you'd like to look. Books printed as ordered. No up-front cost. Can be sold anywhere on the web. Could even work in your restaurant by having net access at the register or...wow, I'm starting to sound like a shill. Sorry about that. But, it's only because I like the idea. And an autograph would definitely add value to the book. Sounds great.

I have to concur with the rest of the gang on this one:  it's a great idea.

Sometimes I'm not sure if you truly know how much sway/gravitas/depth you hold with us fans.  We love you and your style, but we certainly respect your word just as much.  Plus, if this book comes out around October or November, I can already think of 2-3 people who will be getting it as a "stocking stuffer" for the holidays.

I think its a wonderful idea. It would or could be a great book for fans in alot of ways. There would be some historical facts, great stories and quotes, plenty of humor, and some awsome footnotes or thoughts from yourself on certain things. A good way for you yourself to clear the air about a few things. I think it would serve as a great platform for some of the more passionate mails that you get, I know I have written one or two. Most importantly though I think it could be a great way for us the fans to say thanks to you and the men and women that make wrestling possible( if in fact it would be strickly a wrestling based book) a tribute or collection of thoughts and memories from the fans to the wrestlers.

i would most defnitely buy this. i think it is a great idea.

thanks

In the words of your close friend Stone Cold Steve Austin: 'ohhh HELL YEAHHH!!!'

In the words of a good buddy of yours, HELL YEAH! I'd buy it in a heart beat.  An autographed version would make it more of a keepsake but even without the sig  it would be super to have!

HELL yes-I'll buy that book!

Wrestling Fan since 1985.

Absolutely JR.

I think its an untapped resource when it comes to the wrestling business. Think on it, ever since the late 90s we have had a horde of books from wrestlers, promotors, insights into the business, documentaries and now a movie or two based on the wrestling entertainment.  What hasn't really been done is a book or any media concerning the wrestling fan and their opinion on the business.

There is plenty of heat on wrestling fans especially on the internet being "smart marks" and I agree as a fan I don't think its our place at times to try and critize those performers who go out of their way and risk their health just to entertain us, but the otherside of the equation is us fans who want to understand and enjoy the efforts wrestlers and agents go through for us.

It is an excellent idea JR, hope you read this.

At the very least, someone has to speak out on the glory of Haku, and Haku Mania!

Hi J.R. --  That's not a bad idea, but I would suggest adding a few "exclusive" blogs or essays that have not already appeared online, because some people might not want to pay for material that's already available. If you're hoping the book will help promote the restaurant, it might also be a good idea to include a coupon for the restaurant, like 10% off the bill or a free appetizer with the purchase of a meal.

That being said, I'm a freelance copy editor with over 20 years of experience, so I would like to offer my editorial services if you need a good copy editor to check the manuscript for typos, etc. Please let me know (editormike67@aol.com).

I think it would be cool to have a collection of the most interesting Q&As, but the actual blogs you write are usually very topical and very much about what is going on in that moment, that people might not be able to pick it up in a year and remember who was feuding with who, or who was working for the company at the time and who had been released, etc etc etc.   The Q&As would be good to have in a book because you answer so many interesting questions people always have about the business in general!  Just my two cents.

Good day J.R., Great minds must think alike, I was thinking last week about asking you if you would consider posting some of  the craziest Q's you have received because I saw one day while going thru the Q&A's you made the comment that some Q's that you receive are "pet coon crazy". I think it is a great idea putting them in a book!

I think it is a great idea. In time for Christmas?

Sounds good to me. I would get a copy.

Hey JR! I think the book sounds like a great idea.  Autographing them would probably raise interest, as you suggested, and maybe adding 2-3 brand new pieces just to keep it fresh for your regulars!

sign me up for a copy--been waitin for you to write some more

All the best from an American in China!

Howdy J.R.,

I love the book idea...but what I'd REALLY love to see is "J.R.'s Wrestling Scrapbook".  Not your autobio persay, but a scrapbook of memorable moments in the business...interviews, pictures, your finest moments in the biz from your viewpoint, the funny, heartwarming stories.  That's a bestseller!

Ed

I would love to buy any book you want to put out, J.R., but as I don't have a credit card, it'd be easier for me to get if you could somehow get it on Chapters (Canada's version of Barnes And Noble).  If that was to happen, I would definitely buy one!

Please come visit my wrestling/pop culture messageboard at http://z6.invisionfree.com/boardwitheverything ! :)

I would love to see you write any type of book. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Jim,

I would absolutely see this not only selling, but selling well, even outside of the store and Norman.

Do I think it would sell as well as the Jim Ross bio that we are all hoping for?  No, but given your exposure on SD and the website, and let us not forget that you are, in fact, the BEST damned announcer ... ever (with most sincere apologies to the late Gordon Solie) that I see this being a widely popular and successful venture that we all would be more than willing to shell out $10 bucks for.

Hell, I'd drop more to get it signed/personalized.  I am looking forward to seeing if this pans out and if so, you can count me in to be one of the first in line (online) to buy it.

 - Shon

I'd buy it.

JR......I love the idea of ur paperback book!!!............If I may make a suggestion, please have a chapter devoted to you and the King!!!.........THAT would in my opinion make it a best seller:)

i personally do not think it is a good idea, unless you are planning on releasing the funny questions,

The book would be good, but due to having free Q&As and blogs on your page every few days there would not be enough demand to make it worth while.

I love the idea!!!!

That would be a great read I am sure as well as a great value for the consumer. Also it could give you ideas on where to take an autobio IF you decide to do that someday. (Which I hope you do!)

JR,

I'd buy that book in a heart beat. As a point of reference, filmmaker Kevin Smith released a book not too long ago that was, essentially, his favorite blog posts from his blog. These sort of books do quite well because the audience likes to have a copy to read and take with them when they're not at the computer.

Although I have one request: I hope you would expand a bit more on some of the points made in earlier blog posts that make it into the book (in the event something from them has changed or just to elaborate.)

JR, This sounds like a really good idea for a new book! I especially like the though of adding the pictures to it...

Bang Bang

That is a great idea!!!  Your blogs and Q& A are fun to read!!!

Hi J.R!

I think it would be a great idea, and it would work (commercially I mean). It would definitely be a fun and interesting read. That's only my personal opinion but I like the way you write, so I think it would be enjoyable. And the pics too, of course!
