J.R.’s Cyber Sunday Thoughts.. Weekend Update..

Yours truly is still in Phoenix for a few more hours before I hop on a Southwest Airlines jet bound for San Diego. Mondays after a PPV are not my favorite days of the week and are the days I miss being a part of Raw the most.

Nonetheless, “one can’t grieve forever” and here’s some random thoughts......

Not being unbiased whatsoever, I thought the two Smackdown bouts at Cyber Sunday were the best bouts of the night.

The ‘Taker-Show heavyweight fight was physical and had a really good pace. There’s no doubt that both men will be sore as Hell for a few days.

Yes, I know the MMA name for the submission ‘Taker used but the WWE isn’t MMA. Perhaps “The Death Valley Vice” would be a decent name for the hold. That’s not my call. However I do think we will see the hold again. Why wouldn’t we? more »

For the record, the Pacific Northwest is beautiful country. The fans in Portland Sunday were awesome. What an asset they were during No Mercy, which was a helluva solid PPV.

Random thoughts...

Last Friday’s debut of Smackdown on MyNetworkTV was a ratings success with over 3 million viewers. The challenge is to build on that number, but it can be done with stout broadcasts. more »

Random albeit BBQ'ed thoughts from under the black hat....

Yours truly will be leaving town on Friday to head south to Waco, Texas to attend the Oklahoma-Baylor college football game on Saturday slated for an 11:30 a.m. kickoff on Fox Sports. If you see a black hat wandering the Sooner sideline you'll know I made it.  more »

Some of my friends who live outside Oklahoma, many on the east coast, have asked how I can seemingly have, as the Eagles have sung for years a “Peaceful Easy Feeling”  about the Oklahoma Sooners being ranked as the #1 college football team in the nation.

They remind me to look at what happened to all the #1’s who lost games that they were not predicted to lose last year. As recently as just last week, the top ten was turned upside down. more »

Great win for Oklahoma Saturday night in Norman and the Sooners should be voted the #1 team in college football on Sunday. All this hype means nothing this early in the season but it is fun if one is a fan of OU or another team that is doing well. As always, being on the Sooner sideline during their games is a privilege for me and an amazing experience. TCU is a strong team that will most likely win 9 games this year so for OU to win 35-10 was nothing to scoff at.  I will be traveling down to Waco next Friday afternoon to take in the OU-Baylor game Saturday morning on Fox Sports before hurrying back to Dallas for my flight to Portland for the No Mercy PPV. Then it is a travel day on Monday from Portland to Spokane before taping Friday Night Smackdown on Tuesday of next week in Spokane.

From what I hear the WWE is pulling out all the stops for the premier of Friday Night Smackdown on MyNetworkTV that will be taped this Tuesday in Green Bay. From what I hear, Tazz and yours truly will be handling the entire broadcast which always seemed to be to be a no brainer to me considering that we are the regular hosts on Friday Night Smackdown last time I looked. The WWE fans in the Green Bay area are apparently in a for a big night this Tuesday.

The WWE event in Paris, France Saturday night scored big at the box office selling out the venue and grossing over $1.1M in ticket sales.

It will be good to see Todd Grisham back at his post on ECW this week. Todd had a horribly challenging week last week and our thoughts and prayers have been with Todd and his family through the ordeal.

Thanks for checking out this short blog and for heading on over to the Q&A section of the site. As always, we appreciate your business and for the record both J.R.'s BBQ Restaurants in Oklahoma had great weekends.

But alas all is well in Oklahoma as the business at J.R.’s Family BBQ Restaurants is good plus the No. 2 ranked Oklahoma Sooners have a huge, home game this Saturday night against the nationally-ranked TCU Horned Frogs.

Random thoughts from under the black hat from your resident BBQ lovin’, Sooner fan who thinks Saturday night’s game against the 23rd ranked TCU Horned Frogs will be a genuine Slobber-Knocker. more »

Hopefully the great fans of Oklahoma will remember the term “home field advantage” and be prepared to make a difference. I assure you that the players feed off that sort of thing much more than perhaps many fans think.
