Predicting SummerSlam and more (Aug. 14, 2008) from WWE.com

Posted in:

From the land where people love’s J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurants more than they adore Olympian Michael Phelps, your resident Okie has a weekly helping of SmackDown and some delicious “side dishes” for your sports-entertainment taste buds.

Raw’s John Cena and Batista are now not on the other’s holiday card list. There’s a significant physical confrontation between these two this Sunday at the 21st SummerSlam. This one won’t resemble a Funk vs. Brisco mat classic from the 1970s, and my best guess is that we are going to see a slobberknocker of a brawl along the lines of those of yesteryear in my hometown tavern on a payday Friday night.

Prediction: I’m taking Batista and the points.

CM Punk, who is World Heavyweight Champion last I looked, is sort of the Rodney Dangerfield of WWE, it seems these days. Punk can’t seem to get any respect with a fist full of hundreds. I have the solution to the talented Punk’s dilemma ... Win. It’s like Al Davis of the Oakland Raiders always preaches, “Just win, baby!”

Punk won’t win a fist fight with JBL, but if Punk can utilize his feet and knees, then I like Punk’s chances to silence more of his critics. If JBL wins, then the Brooklyn Brawler and Harvey Wippleman will be organizing a parade in the tall former Texan's honor at the verbose one’s mandate. JBL, who was a great champion, and Punk have clashing styles, which can be either feast or famine for the combatants and for the fans.

Prediction: Take Punk and the over.

The highlight of SummerSlam is arguably the Hell in a Cell match that I suspect will close the show and will feature the commentary of the “Human Suplex Machine” and his partner. Taker has more Cell experience than any man alive, and may function better in that destructive environment than any one any of us can think of. Edge has never been in Hell in a Cell to date, but there is no doubt that Edge has been to Hell. I hear that Edge bought a condo there with a great view. (That could be more of those internet “rumors” which is another world for fertilizer.)

John Cena vs. Batista

WOW, not a fan of Batista to say the least, over rated meat head takes on a man that I have gained losts of respect for over the last few years John Cena, I hate the fact that Batista will probably win but, I still stand behind John Cena.

Isn't anyone growing tired of seeing the Undertaker and Edge headline a pay per view, WWE has so much great Talent that just sits on the sidelines, Mr. Kennedy, Carlito and Tommy Dreamer. But of course the WWE insists on giving us what we have seen time and time again so...I pick the Undertaker to win. Nothing against Edge or the Undertaker, nothing at all just let's see some talent that we don't get to see and more importantly I want better story lines. Rhodes and Dibiase, a step in the right direction and I'm not a huge fan of Cody Rhodes but it works.

Thank you JR you're still the man

While I do like Cena and Batista, I do agree with the fact of finding someone else to headline PPV's with Undertaker or edge either one. It is getting a litlle repetative. On the other hand I believe in the group of people you listed, I dont really like Kennedy or carlito. I do however give them their dues as wrestlers. I really like Dreamer and would love to see him win another major title, however dreamer is a little past his prime, or so it seems everytime he steps in ring. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe he just needs to fine the old flare he used to have as an ECW original.

I'm pretty hyped up for this, and I'd say there is no match on the card that will rival Taker-Edge.

I agree, Punk will retain, but it's hard to make a definate prediction on the Cena/Batista match

I'm new to your site, but I have been a long time wrestling fan and a big fan of yours. I dont know how you find time to do things like this with the traveling with the wwe, but I like your site. I agree with the last commit and say that you are and always will be the best in your proffession. Now to the matches. I really like both Batista and Cena. They're both in the top of the industry. I believe however that Batista's pure power will be the deciding factor in that match. Not to take away from Cena. He can batlle with the best, but in the end I think Batista will overpower him. The CM punk match I think goes to Punk hands down. JBL does too much showboating. I really believe that Triple H will find a way to pull off a win against Kahli as he has done against so many others in the past. He is not known as the cerebral assasin for no reason. He also learned from the best to ever grace a wrestling ring"Nature Boy Rick Flair". Mickie james has beat the glamazon various time so I see Mickie and Kingston winning that match. I love watching Mat and Jeff wrestle(I wish they would get back together) I hope Jeff shuts MVP up for good, and I can't see Matt"taking nothing away from his excellent skills" being able to find a way to beat Henry. Now to the Hell in a Cell"The Devil's Playground" I believe that with the mind set of edge this match will set a new precedence for Summer Slam. This will be as you say(ATrue Slobberknocker)"JR Jim Ross". I believe the master of this match, the Deadman will prevail however-unless Edge has something major up his sleeve. It would not be the first time-he is known for pulling out all the stops legal or not.

I'm a first timer at comment on your excellent blogging site, but i have been reading for quite a while now. Being a long time 'rasslin fan i want to personally thank you for your work in the broadcasting field. I watched the Ric Flair vs. Sting matchup the other night from NWA I believe in '89? One of the best overall work i've seen from both preformers, and also from you and Tony S. Broadcasting is something i've always wanted to get into, and is highly over looked in any production. You Sir are by far the best in your field, and I think i speak for a lot of wrestling fans.  Thanks for many years of making people watching from home feel like they are there.

WOOO PIG SOOOOIE!!!!
