Take a special look at the “Redneck Gift Buckets.” These are sure to be a hit this holiday season. My thanks to all of you that are including product from J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q in your holiday gift giving plans. We are shipping out most orders within hours of receiving them from you… usually via Federal Express Ground. We ship worldwide, but I do suggest you don’t wait too long to insure that your order gets to you on time and intact.
My Webmaster says there is much more work to be done on the site, so we would like to take this opportunity to get help from you. Take a look around, especially in the new store, and let us know of anything that isn’t working properly or could be tweaked a little. We would also like to know other things you would like to see. The Webmaster has set up a blog for this, so be sure and post any suggestions there, we would really appreciate it.
Bar-B-Qed Feedback Time:
Jim Reedyk- Jim you are absolutely right when you say that the head man of WWE/Canada is a true class act and one of the hardest working individuals in the company. Carl DeMarco loves what he does for a living, which makes all the difference in the world and something I strongly recommend that any young person focus on as they think about their life’s work. I am happy you enjoyed your Wrestlemania 23 experience, as the train ride to Detroit sounded like fun.
Al from NJ- Adrian Peterson is amazingly gifted and was a wonderful Sooner to be sure. I met AD when he was a high school senior and have grown to know AD well. He is a grounded young man who has been faced with a litany of challenges over his life on a personal level and he has prevailed. #28 knows no fear and the way he runs the ball should indicate such. When I saw AD in Dallas for the OU-Texas Slobber-Knocker, AD was with his little brother and not with a “posse,” and it is highly unlikely that AD will ever find himself in a position such as Pacman Jones has found himself in this NFL season. That’s another reason individuals should always try and surround themselves with good people and not bottom feeders.
Dan- Interesting point you make about fans 25 and under, and how they perceive Stone Cold Steve Austin. Many in that demo perhaps didn’t see the Austin Era in the WWE, which provided a magnificent spark to the business. Being so close to Steve I realize I am not unbiased when it comes to my thoughts on him and what he has meant to the business and all his tremendous contributions. However, I have no apologies when it comes to what I have said in the past about my friend. Plus, believe it or not, I liked “The Condemned.”
theBestThereis- When we step back and think about what the Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young have done on Monday Night Raw over the past few years, at their age it is extraordinary. Moolah may not have been overly popular with some of her peers because Moolah had the political influences with the promoters, but no one can ever deny Moolah’s ever lasting influence and contributions to the business over 6 decades.
Johnny- Billy Callahan is about as likely to be coaching the Nebraska Cornhuskers next year as yours truly, and I am not looking for more work nor am I qualified. Nebraska is a proud program that will undoubtedly bounce back, but with the recruiting situation as it is, it may take 2-3 seasons. If I were the rest of the Big 12 North, my sense of recruiting urgency would be heightened.
Dustin- Mizzou vs. Kansas is the game this year and it will be at Arrowhead Stadium, which I applaud. Chase Daniel is the real deal and the Tigers are a physical team to say the least. I saw them play OU in person from the sideline and Mizzou is well coached and has legit talent.
Mark in South Africa- Freddy Joe Floyd aka Tracey Smothers is still wrestling from what I understand and is hopefully doing well. A tough guy to say the least. By the way, that name came from Jack and Jerry Brisco, if you are keeping score at home. Mr. McMahon is perfect in his role on WWE TV, in my opinion, because the best antagonists in any field are the ones that are the easiest to naturally dislike. Mr. McMahon knows the buttons to push to elicit the desired response out of the audience. Quite honestly, that is an elusive art form.
Deanuk- The Rock’s “This is Your Life” segment on Raw a few years ago is one of the more memorable segments ever on Monday night. It was an amazing experience as the King and I simply had to stay out of the way and enjoy it like the fans we are. Rock and Mick Foley executed like pros that night without a doubt. Key term… talent execution… which is never a “lay-up”.
Yogita- I always thought the best mysteries were the ones I could not easily figure out, which is why the vignettes that air on WWE programming are so provocative, as no one knows exactly when… where… how… why, you get the picture. Like I tell myself… just stay tuned.
BM- Nice initials… nonetheless we are developing a Teriyaki flavored Jerky and it will be available soon to join the other 4 flavors we have now available to ship to your front door.
Shannon- I felt very honored to be asked to write the foreword for Chris Jericho’s book, “A Lion’s Tail, Around the World in Spandex”. I wholeheartedly suggest to any fan to read this one, least of all for my foreword, but I am glad that you liked it. By the way, my wife is reading Batista’s book as we speak and is really enjoying it.
brainman214- When I first got into the business the promoter LeRoy McGuirk had me watch Gordon Solie, alone, and do the commentary for the Danny Hodge vs. Hiro Matsuda NWA Junior Heavyweight Title bout from Tampa over and over. I studied Gordon’s psychology, timing, and the choice of words he used to describe a classic wrestling match. So yes, on many occasions when I was starting to find my way as a broadcaster, Gordon Solie provided me with inspiration and motivation. He still does to this very day, as I think I have plenty of room to improve my game and I go to work every Monday with that thought in mind… to be better than I was last week.
Harry- I need to find some of those old WCW comic books I appeared in and get them ready for our next BBQ Restaurant. If any one out there has any of these or any other memorabilia they want to make available just let us know here on our site. We might be able to orchestrate an interesting trade. Glad you are enjoying our cookbooks, too.
Zach- The whereabouts of Tiger Chung Lee? Beats me but I have not seen him in Norman lately or eating “Q”.
Mark- I never dreamed my comments about the recent Diva Halloween Costume Contest would cause such a stir. This might be one of those “much to do’s about nothing” moments. Was it that far off base?
Joseph- I wish J.R.’s BBQ in the Albuquerque Airport the best, but I have never tested them. If I am ever at their airport I will check it out, but our two ventures are not related.
Eric- I can’t speak to the Batista book signing you wrote us about, as I was not there except to say that most store managers do not want the talents to not be able to sign for all those standing in line and the longer the lines the quicker the line has to be processed. From my experience personalizing one’s autograph is not prohibited by the WWE, but sometimes it is impossible to personalize if the lines are too long for the normal two hours allotted for the signings. I am sure those that were on hand for the signing yours truly was involved with in Orlando a few weeks ago, would concur inasmuch as we personalized and took photos because our line of 250-300 folks was manageable.
Brian- I like poker’s Mike “The Mouth” Matasow and “The Brat”, Phil Hellmuth, perhaps being wrestling managers, but much like yours truly, they don’t need to be seen by women or children in wrestling tights.
Charles- Regarding the FU and the STFU, yes, use your imagination and it will become crystal clear to you what they stand for… or not.
Davinder/UK- I like Michael Cole’s voice just fine and I have no issues with him or Joey Styles introducing a PPV. It is a team effort and I pride myself in being a team player.
JZA- Indeed Smoky Mountain Wrestling’s Gangstas were very cutting edge and politically incorrect. I don’t know on a global basis if that would play well in today’s marketplace though.
jwallstram- Arkansas, Nebraska, and Texas A&M will all likely be looking for new head football coaches after this season ends. Texas Tech’s Mike Leach is a brilliant mind and would fit nicely at any of the aforementioned schools, but especially at Arkansas in the SEC. Leach is hugely popular in Norman as he made many friends here and everyone I know that knows Coach Leach thinks the world of him. I love his dry wit and his football IQ.
Allen- When King and I travel, he drives and I navigate, but he has first dibs on the radio station. However, we like the same music and usually listen to Classic Rock or a good Oldies station and occasionally some Country, until they start singing those heartbreak songs and then we tag out. I agree that Sting facing Flair anytime soon is not too likely.
James- I do remember meeting you in the King’s driveway. I never heard any issues from King whatsoever, so all is well. Hope to see you at J.R.’s in Norman one of these days.
Andy P- HBK was a challenging individual to be around back in the day and that has made for an interesting journey between he and I. Our relationship today is excellent and I am proud of the man that Shawn Michaels has become. The interview he referenced in his book, which is an excellent read by the way, was when he loaded his shorts with socks or something to annoy me. It was sophomoric, but funny when I look back on it… the interview, not the manhood.
Jason- I am a big believer that the greats of former generations such as the folks you mentioned like The Briscos, The Funks, Antonio Inoki, Lou Thesz, Buddy Rogers, etc. would be hugely popular in today’s marketplace because they had great in ring skills and were all intelligent athletes that would adapt to today’s marketplace. We look forward to your order for some Jerky and Sauce. Thanks!
Adam Rothchild- Sorry you were so offended by my flippant remark about the Diva Halloween Costume Contest and that my comments were deemed “unprofessional” by you. But if you were one of the divas in question, then we would have a bigger story to cover as a diva named Adam scares me. Lighten up Francis!
Terry- When I hired talent, I always felt that if an individual was simply looking for a job and not a career that they had less of a chance of succeeding. Passionless paychecks don’t last long. To be a long term star in this business, one must be a fan of the business and a student of it. That’s my story and I will always stick to it.
Hawkeye- We still have autographed copies of J.R.’s Cookbook and we pay the shipping for those that reside in the continental United States. I will be happy to sign one for you. I too, miss the days of the UWF, largely because I was well on my journey and was MUCH YOUNGER!!
April- Gregory Helms is healing from neck surgery, but is healing nicely as I understand it. I don’t expect him to be medically cleared for a few more months.
Ben- Santino Marella has been a pleasant highlight on Raw in my view. He makes me laugh, which makes it hard for me to dislike the rascal. His remark about J.R. having an orgasm re: Austin arriving on the LA Raw was funny as hell. Mentioning “J.R.” and an “orgasm” in the same sentence is a first for Raw.
Jeremy- I wholeheartedly believe that HBK has a legit shot at winning the WWE Title at Survivor Series. That’s not towing the company line, but how I legitimately feel. Michaels is an artisan who travels in a small circle.
Thanks for checking out our site and for telling a friend. We want to grow our business and appreciate all of you that visit us here and that shop with us too. Without your continued business we wouldn’t be around and thus far we are growing amazingly well. Thanks again for all you do for us here at J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q.
BOOMER SOONER!!
J.R.
